01:20 AM Deejay: moin
03:42 AM rigid: did anyone generate a COMP_FILE for their setup? I wonder if I should set SCALE to the calculated nominal value or the effective observed value before COMP_FILE calibration
03:43 AM rigid: ...or if it'd even makes a difference at all
04:23 AM Tom_L: morning
04:23 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> hello
04:42 AM JT-Cave: morning
04:47 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/YDRuAuMuTvvRTDfhFqNMmkYy/rn_image_picker_lib_temp_e89a2292-1edd-4b16-8a41-60400f0756cd.jpg
04:47 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> No more mistake with pin numbers
05:55 AM * JT-Cave thought flex had mdi buttons...
06:47 AM Tom_L: i think it does
06:54 AM Tom_L: check the 'Manual' tab of tom.ui bottom right
07:07 AM JT-Cave: that's for mdi commands in the ini file these are for mdi commands in a button
07:08 AM JT-Cave: I "think"
07:09 AM JT-Cave: ah those are hal buttons
07:09 AM JT-Cave: https://gnipsel.com/linuxcnc/flexgui/controls.html#mdi-buttons
07:10 AM JT-Cave: bit of rain here so no riding today
07:28 AM * JT-Cave starts his chicken day
08:20 AM JT-Cave: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zVhWLVgGD4
08:21 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> https://electronicsam.com/images/greenmachine/IMG_20191215_124239.jpg
08:40 AM rdtsc2: Well, tried Xilinx ISE 14.7 WebPack last night on current Manjaro / Arch. Got it to install after some tweaking, but it seems flaky at best. License manager won't open. Should have read the requirements - wants very old RHEL 6 or SUSE 11! Yikes. Okay well getting those for a VM thanks to Wayback Machine!
08:55 AM pcw---home: It works fine at least on mint 20 (the installation includes the required libraries)
08:56 AM pcw---home: so relatively independent of Linux version
08:57 AM pcw---home: should not needs any VM
08:57 AM JT-Shop: morning pcw---home
08:58 AM pcw---home: Morning JT
09:01 AM JT-Shop: I "think" a deer is going to give birth under my carport soon...
09:02 AM bjorkintosh: Doe?
09:03 AM JT-Shop: yup
09:03 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I hope so.. lol
09:03 AM bjorkintosh: ah. A deer. A female Deer.
09:03 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> ray - a drop of golden sun..
09:05 AM bjorkintosh: Me... now the stupid song is stuck in my damned head.
09:05 AM JT-Shop: I'm surprised how well she tolerates me
09:05 AM bjorkintosh: (a name I call myself)
09:16 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I have young kids.. It is always playing in my head..
09:20 AM rdtsc2: Thanks PCW. Think it's getting hung up on Arch due to eth0 having a different name.
09:36 AM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> morning guys
09:41 AM pcw---home: Are you sure you have webpack installed and not normal ISE? Webpack is not node locked
09:41 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
09:42 AM pcw---home: # This is license NODELOCKED to HOSTID=ANY;
09:45 AM rdtsc2: Yeah it just doesn't act right on Arch. I'll try a mint 20 VM later. All this effort is to save one cable in the drag chains... maybe effort > reward.
09:48 AM pcw---home: What I am saying is that it should not care about the Ethernet at all, only ISE does
09:48 AM pcw---home: not Webpack
09:52 AM rdtsc2: I chose webpack from the list of products, and it seemed to install without error. But the setup64.sh didn't put the bin/lin64 in the path, etc.
09:52 AM rdtsc2: Lots of little things
09:53 AM rdtsc2: Arch is notorious for being difficult for otherwise compatible software
10:04 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
11:08 AM CaptHindsight: has anyone tried to reproduce the look and feel of hand carved leather using CNC?
11:09 AM CaptHindsight: using cutting tools vs laser, laser has a different look and feel
11:10 AM CaptHindsight: https://youtu.be/oLzOu79OaBw?si=jVNf7bTBW_db0qiX&t=190
11:16 AM roycroft: i know folks use vinyl cutters for thin leather
11:16 AM roycroft: like 2mm or thinner
11:18 AM CaptHindsight: ^^ links shows the operation on a Cricut
11:22 AM CaptHindsight: the "maker" didn't wet the leather before engraving
11:23 AM CaptHindsight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLfATScy8l4
11:25 AM Tom_L: JT-Shop, is the mdi better than using a hal button?
11:30 AM JT-Cave1: well it's simpler
11:30 AM Tom_L: should be getting a box & new nic card for the test pc mon or tues
11:30 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
11:31 AM JT-Cave: "better" is so subjective to interpretation
11:31 AM Tom_L: then maybe i can test it on hardware
11:31 AM JT-Cave: I'm testing on the BP now
11:31 AM JT-Cave: just working out what I want in my flexible GUI
11:31 AM Tom_L: what is jet? software?
11:32 AM JT-Cave: you forgot jet already?
11:32 AM Tom_L: aparently
11:32 AM Tom_L: oh
11:32 AM Tom_L: nevermind
11:32 AM Tom_L: :)
11:32 AM JT-Cave: https://github.com/jethornton/jet
11:32 AM Tom_L: i'd forgotten you were using that on the bp
11:33 AM JT-Cave: so I've only been working on flex for 4 months now and it's pretty polished
11:33 AM Tom_L: pretty close
11:33 AM JT-Cave: been correcting some errors in the docs while building a gui for the bp
11:34 AM Tom_L: i think the code is pretty solid anyway
11:34 AM JT-Cave: as do I
11:35 AM Tom_L: did you just add that mdi section to the docs?
11:36 AM Tom_L: doing it that way, you don't need an MDI_COMMAND in the ini
11:36 AM JT-Cave: yup
11:36 AM JT-Cave: and you don't need to make a hal connection to the button
11:36 AM Tom_L: does it work for setting F & S?
11:37 AM JT-Cave: any valid mdi command works
11:46 AM Tom_L: where does the command actually get stored? in the .ui file?
11:49 AM JT-BP: yup
11:50 AM Tom_L: just installed 0.8.0
11:51 AM Tom_L: you give up on the plotter?
11:51 AM CaptHindsight: https://www.ebay.com/itm/165690804989 Brushless 20HP DC Motors $300 or best
11:52 AM CaptHindsight: makerspace guy has >200 of them
11:52 AM Tom_L: one per wheel on a smart car
11:54 AM JT-Cave: for now
11:56 AM Tom_L: is the BP manual toolchange?
11:56 AM Tom_L: post the ui when you get it working...
12:01 PM JT-Cave: yup the BP is a manual tool change and has a QS spindle so repeatable
12:01 PM * JT-Cave hears a nap calling his name
12:03 PM JT-Cave: it's like the sirens singing in the river
12:11 PM bjorkintosh: <rdtsc2> did you fix the eth0 hang up? I had to go through the same issue fairly recently.
12:12 PM bjorkintosh: also with fpga software.
01:10 PM rdtsc2: no bjorkintosh although I did find where to change it. Currently setting up a Mint 20 virtual machine for it. Still not even sure I'm going the modify-firmware route... need to calculate again cable and drag chain widths.
01:12 PM bjorkintosh: I don't quite understand why that's even necessary.
01:12 PM bjorkintosh: wait. I do. someone hardcoded 'eth0' and now they won't change it.
01:18 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/GGASPmTnctNqnvLzSFLYJQKg/20240613_171725.jpg
01:18 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> JT, sold my truck... but i bought my bike 🙂 with a little left over to build my shop with (i hope) 🙂
01:26 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/hlDEJQJYAFtuaymsrCNzEonX/Screenshot_2024-06-14_at_14-19-47_Portland_Radar_News_Weather_Sports_Breaking_News.png
01:26 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> Maybe i will go for a bike ride... (Farmington... kidding) 😉
01:28 PM xxcoder: congats on sale
01:37 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> thanks, only got $5.8K but it was my fault counting the cash, mis-counted an extra $100, didn't know until i deposited the cash
01:39 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> wow is it pouring rain... nevermind raining cats and dogs... looks like it is pouring horses and cows!
01:40 PM xxcoder: hurry milk the falling cows
01:40 PM xxcoder: so you can have nice cup of rain-milk
01:41 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> lol
01:42 PM rigid: ha! turns out my "tuned" 3018 is <= 4/100 mm accurate without COMP_FILE
01:43 PM rigid: not too bad for <300€
01:43 PM xxcoder: not bad
01:44 PM rigid: well, 350€ i guess... those TCM bearings were not cheap
01:45 PM xxcoder: if it can do job youre seeking it to do, then its all good right?
01:46 PM rigid: actually I have no jobs for it (yet) :) it started as a small testbed for linuxcnc and then things got out of hand
01:46 PM rigid: ...i guess it's a sport now :-P
01:47 PM rigid: although I did some aluminium drilling jobs. CNC drilling is soooo cool compared to manual drilling.
01:50 PM rigid: this is the most complex milling i've done on it: https://upload.coderdu.de/upload/FfZqzqJ7H1i6BZQCnKF0YadF/EYCCoTkmQDGSHtiUlY7FwA.jpg
01:51 PM rigid: you can clearly see the marks of vibration
01:55 PM roycroft: *whew* all my books are unpacked and shelved, finally
02:01 PM xxcoder: thats cool
02:01 PM xxcoder: and yeah chatter can be annoying
02:03 PM xxcoder: roy lol I got rid of most of my books couple years ago
02:04 PM xxcoder: been playing with bad crossbow as fidget toy and it lost its last bolt lol. so glad I was refunded on tgat one. other crossbow is so much better
02:05 PM rigid: i found out it's because of a miniscule tilt of the spindle. I have since calibrated it and it doesn't chatter anymore in aluminium.
02:06 PM rigid: ...until now at least *cross fingers*
02:06 PM xxcoder: :)
02:13 PM rigid: ouch, in reverse direction without backlash compensation i get 0.7mm max error.
02:14 PM rigid: COMP_FILE should bring huge improvements in terms of backlash and spindle discrepancies
02:48 PM Tom_L: roycroft, i just ditched ~100lb of books
02:51 PM xxcoder: dunno what it weight was but I had rid of over 300 books
02:51 PM xxcoder: im sure 100lb is more than that
03:00 PM bjorkintosh: Tom_L: what were the books you ditched about?
03:03 PM Tom_L: old software & tech manuals
03:03 PM xxcoder: mine was nearly all scifi novels, and small amount of fantasy
03:26 PM rdtsc_away is now known as rdtsc
03:41 PM Tom_L: few old travers & uline catalogs...
03:57 PM JT-Shop: I know I have some popup keyboards somewhere... but where?
03:58 PM xxcoder: walk around, one might pop up ;)
03:58 PM Tom_L: test?
03:59 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/flexgui/mdi_flood.png
03:59 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/flexgui/mdi_mist.png
03:59 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:443/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/flexgui/mdi_coolant_off.png
03:59 PM Tom_L: the mdi buttons update the regular flood/mist as well
04:01 PM JT-Shop: did you mod the qss file to get the colors?
04:01 PM Tom_L: umm... some time back i think
04:01 PM Tom_L: it's in the example folder
04:01 PM Tom_L: tom.qss
04:01 PM JT-Shop: ok
04:03 PM Tom_L: i'm trying to get an example of everything in mine.. not really to use it as a working ui
04:03 PM Tom_L: for noobs mostly
04:03 PM JT-Shop: found my gcode and number popups
04:03 PM JT-Shop: yup the bp ui will just have what I need/want
04:04 PM Tom_L: i've seen it but forgot where
04:04 PM JT-Shop: no jog controls needed
04:04 PM JT-Shop: jet
04:04 PM Tom_L: right
04:04 PM Tom_L: mine is too crouded to be useful irl
04:04 PM JT-Shop: so copy and paste them :)
04:04 PM Tom_L: yup
04:05 PM JT-Shop: yup for testing you want everything but for a machine everything is not needed
04:05 PM Tom_L: i didn't put buttons for run step pause resume etc.. not enough room
04:06 PM Tom_L: just the bar thing
04:06 PM Tom_L: toolbar
04:06 PM JT-Shop: you have a menu as well?
04:06 PM Tom_L: it has a few things
04:07 PM JT-Shop: you have to have them in the menu to put them in the toolbar
04:07 PM Tom_L: they must be then
04:07 PM Tom_L: :)
04:07 PM Tom_L: those are in 'machine'
04:07 PM JT-Shop: the bp has no menu or toolbar
04:07 PM JT-Shop: all touch screen
04:08 PM Tom_L: yeah i knew you were using touch
04:08 PM Tom_L: limits space somewhat
04:08 PM Tom_L: i don't own any touch screens save laptops and i can't have those to play
04:10 PM Tom_L: those mdi coolant buttons update status too.. i don't think the regular buttons did
04:10 PM JT-Shop: you need to test that
04:10 PM Tom_L: we did
04:11 PM Tom_L: i did flood with mdi and mist with the regular one and only M8 shows in status
04:11 PM Tom_L: it's the way flood_pb access it
04:12 PM Tom_L: thru the python interface iirc
04:12 PM JT-Shop: flood_pb uses the python interface so if it doesn't update it's the python interface failing
04:13 PM Tom_L: yeah, we tested that way back when
04:13 PM JT-Shop: so it's actually better to use a mdi button for flood and mist :)
04:13 PM Tom_L: yeah
04:14 PM Tom_L: i think so anyway
04:14 PM Tom_L: problem is, you can push it before homed and get an error
04:14 PM JT-Shop: I still have to add them to the enable logic
04:15 PM Tom_L: how do you test for 'any button' using mdi?
04:16 PM JT-Shop: https://github.com/jethornton/flexgui/blob/master/flexgui/src/libflexgui/startup.py#L866
04:16 PM Tom_L: ok
04:16 PM Tom_L: so it's not too tough to do
04:17 PM JT-Shop: just a few lines of code
04:19 PM Tom_L: i'll push my ui with the mdi buttons added
04:19 PM JT-Shop: ok
04:22 PM Tom_L: #30
04:22 PM JT-Shop: ok
04:23 PM Tom_L: are you far enough with the bp one to move hardware?
04:23 PM JT-Shop: yup
04:23 PM Tom_L: cool
04:37 PM Tom_L: no fawns yet?
04:51 PM JT-Shop: nope
05:06 PM JT-Shop: it's add something to bp ui then test and see that hmm I need this too
05:07 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> had a nice 35 mile ride today.....
05:08 PM JT-Shop: I'm happy to do 13 miles... I don't have a fully functioning heart so I go with the flow and do what I can
05:08 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> JT. that's fine....just go easy and enjoy it....
05:09 PM JT-Shop: I go at what I can do and know what my limits are
05:09 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> I had afib a few years back. got it fixed. but it definitely slowed me down.
05:10 PM JT-Shop: I had an artery collapse 31 years ago, it's fixed but the muscle is still scar tissue
05:11 PM xxcoder: that sucks
05:11 PM JT-Shop: and I have a sticky valve that might need to get fixed when I get older :)
05:11 PM xxcoder: different issue for me, my lungs was damaged so my body cant get enough oxygen if I push too hard'
05:11 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> got the afib from pushing the heart to hard, too long, ... just trying to keep up with my friends....
05:11 PM JT-Shop: I really liked when the cardiologist said that
05:13 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> here's a good book.... https://www.amazon.com/The-Haywire-Heart-audiobook/dp/B07DKHWCSY/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1FRMLUNDRPM8M&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.AUtgMhq_94nH9kvfMMT9uzSxvRi7zC2JnQSY3Iuw0jiWmLqSzUvg4Hh0jno890AP.rQWdUdIxMLV50Xvt8AprUKiIN1l6lCulOJAked04LQ0&dib_tag=se&keywords=how+too+much+exercise+can+kill+you&qid=1718402787&sprefix=how+too+much+excersise+can+kill+you%2Caps%2C192&sr=8-1
05:13 PM JT-Shop: monster link! need to trim it down to the ?
05:16 PM JT-Shop: https://www.amazon.com/The-Haywire-Heart-audiobook/dp/B07DKHWCSY link without all the tracking crap
05:17 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> ok.
05:17 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> anyway. good bood. first couple chapters are pretty technical on the heart's electrical system.
05:17 PM JT-Shop: pretty shocking!
05:48 PM xxcoder: yay
05:48 PM xxcoder: used 3d pen to rivet together the crappy crossbow
05:49 PM xxcoder: without trigger and "arrow" holder it will never fire but its together enough for fidget toy
05:54 PM JT-Shop: a bit of duct tape would fix that
05:55 PM xxcoder: lol its 3 inch at longest, duct tape would be huge on it
05:55 PM JT-Shop: well you need to cut it down to scale
05:55 PM xxcoder: I hate holding on duct tape too
05:57 PM JT-Shop: then use sinew
05:57 PM xxcoder: interesting but nah its fine as is now
05:57 PM * JT-Shop calls it a day
08:01 PM xxcoder: added small amount of plasics again, missed some spots. its now much stronger. feels like actual good product lol. too bad it can never shoot anything
08:31 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> do I unplug the hotend of my ender 3 or buy a bambo?
08:33 PM xxcoder: buy prusa xl
09:35 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Why?
09:36 PM xxcoder: lol just that its cool
09:36 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> (I really want to know - I want something with a heated chamber and maybe multiple filaments
09:36 PM xxcoder: seriously though if ender is well known to ou on its properies, id just fix it
09:36 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Oh.. I will fix it...
09:36 PM xxcoder: issue with xl is how expensive it is unfortunately
09:37 PM xxcoder: expecially if you want 5 head assembled
09:39 PM xxcoder: people experences with it is apparently pretty dang good?
10:15 PM rdtsc: Use a Bambu X1 carbon at work. Learned two things: 1. PETG printed really fast can be as brittle as PLA, and 2. PC (polycarbonate) is AWESOME but will destroy the hot plate.
10:16 PM rdtsc: Sticks too well... bumped bed temperature down but damage was already done.
10:17 PM CaptHindsight: you guys are pretty handy, just make new more better one :)
10:34 PM roycroft: well, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy
10:48 PM roycroft: there was a fire right next to the highway to my new home this afternoon
10:49 PM roycroft: i was driving down into eugene and saw a bunch of first responders on the other side of the highway, then i found out it was a fire that was rapidly spreading
10:49 PM roycroft: it's out now, but i took another route home tonight, so i don't yet know the extent of the damage
10:49 PM CaptHindsight: well what are the odds of that happening again?
10:49 PM roycroft: by when?
10:49 PM roycroft: next week?
10:50 PM roycroft: next month?
10:50 PM CaptHindsight: is it fire season?
10:50 PM CaptHindsight: in your lifetime?
10:50 PM roycroft: fire season is almost year-round now
10:51 PM roycroft: the overall fire danger is still low, but it will shoot to extremely high in no time
10:51 PM CaptHindsight: can you burn a fire break around your place?
10:51 PM CaptHindsight: or cut one
10:53 PM roycroft: no, but while the fires sometimes come close, they never come into town
10:53 PM roycroft: we're surrounded by lakes and rivers, mostly
10:54 PM roycroft: highway 58 is the only road up here from the valley, though, and there are only a couple alternate routes that branch off of it
10:54 PM CaptHindsight: worst things around here are just NIMBY suburbanites
10:54 PM roycroft: so if there's a fire or slide that closes the road, it could be a several hour detour to get back to eugene, depending on where it is
10:56 PM CaptHindsight: didn't Vancouver get cut off by road last year? Landslides and washed out roads.
10:56 PM roycroft: if you're talking about vancouver bc, no
10:57 PM roycroft: it's in a big river delta and there are dozens of roads in and out of the city
10:57 PM CaptHindsight: oh wow that was back in 2021
10:57 PM roycroft: but parts of bc, around hope, did get cut off
10:58 PM roycroft: that really did not cut vancouver off completely
10:59 PM roycroft: it just made it distasteful to travel, as one had to go down to the us to get back east
10:59 PM xxcoder: they used miliary portable bridge to make city accessable for semis for short while then started repairing destroyed spots
11:58 PM rdtsc is now known as rdtsc_away
