01:11 AM Deejay: moin
01:27 AM Rhine_Labs: Morn
01:28 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> Hello
02:00 AM rigid: Tom_L: that works, but you could also configure a certificate, use encrypted traffic and use https:// instead of :443 basically for free
04:19 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
05:09 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
05:19 AM JT-Cave: morning
06:08 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> Morning
07:00 AM faheus2 is now known as faheus
07:15 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> good news, I found out why my 7i73 "was not working"
07:15 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> and as I have no issue if people laugh at me, I'm sharing my newbie mistake
07:16 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> I was reading pin number 1 row from 1 to 20 and second 21 to 40
07:16 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> instead of 1 row of odd numbers
07:17 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> and other row for even numbers
07:17 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> now you can boooo me 😄
07:27 AM rdtsc2: Oops! I'd just call that a rookie oversight - it's not like all of the pins are numbered. Easy mistake. Hopefully the card wasn't damaged at all.
07:30 AM rdtsc2: In designing boards with those "dual in-line-headers" I have placed the text 1, 2, and 39, 40 near the respective pins specifically to make it clear (we all forget; me moreso than others lol)
07:38 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> that's a wonderful idea 😉
07:39 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> which kind of card do you design?
08:01 AM rdtsc2: Oh I haven't designed any CNC cards yet. Lots of other things though, like building a spindle drive currently.
08:09 AM Tom_L: 91°F today, 97°F tomorrow
08:16 AM Tom_L: the pinout _is_ listed on P5
08:16 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> thunder storms today, 81F tomorrow
09:20 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
09:21 AM JT-Shop: roguish 13 miles 677 elev gain 10.3 average speed
09:39 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> JT-Shop: hey. good. just enjoy the ride....
09:46 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Jerry West has left the house....... a truly GREAT basketball player....
10:28 AM JT-Shop: ok my small chain ring is 34 tooths
10:29 AM JT-Shop: and looks like a 115mm BC
10:29 AM JT-Shop: is that somewhat stock?
10:35 AM JT-Shop: looks like my choice is 104 BCD, 110 BCD, 130 BCD and some smaller ones
10:47 AM Tom_L: JT-Shop, make one
10:54 AM JT-Shop: I have to get a 104BCD crank to get a smaller chainring
10:55 AM Tom_L: is that a shorter / longer crank that what you have?
10:56 AM JT-Shop: different bolt circle diameter
10:56 AM Tom_L: oh
11:00 AM Tom_L: is the crank length the same as what you have?
11:01 AM JT-Shop: I think so, first I need to identify the crank type I have I "think"
11:01 AM Tom_L: longer crank can help too as long as it doesn't drag in the corners
11:04 AM JT-Shop: I don't think I want a longer crank unless I get get longer legs
11:05 AM Tom_L: i suppose that could be a factor too :)
11:13 AM JT-Shop: I used the the BP mill and it still has Jet installed... gotta upgrade
11:14 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> JT-Shop: rather than smaller chainring, ya can try larger cog (rear wheel gear)
11:15 AM JT-Shop: I have an 8 speed cassette
11:15 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> what brand?
11:16 AM JT-Shop: the bike is a Giant, let me look at the derailleur
11:18 AM Tom_L: Jet?
11:20 AM lcnc-relay: <JT> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/TAoUBdfYAgnAbccoOqmfXmiw/20240612_111350_1606851048196602184.jpg

11:21 AM Tom_L: you're not using the larger front one then?
11:24 AM JT-Shop: LOL no
11:25 AM Tom_L: you could climb mt everest with that...
11:25 AM JT-Shop: not really
11:25 AM JT-Shop: 34 front 32 rear
11:25 AM Tom_L: err no that's backwards
11:27 AM JT-Shop: https://www.amazon.com/SHIMANO-CS-HG31-Hyperglide-Cassette-11-32T/dp/B005DTX1VS
11:27 AM JT-Shop: that one has a 11- 34 that would be better
11:29 AM Tom_L: txt says 11-30
11:29 AM JT-Shop: select
11:29 AM Tom_L: oh
11:31 AM JT-Shop: yup jet is still installed on the mill lol
11:32 AM JT-Shop: I should put a new cassette, chain and chain rings on the bile
11:32 AM JT-Shop: bike
11:32 AM JT-Shop: but first time for a nap
11:49 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> JT-Shop: that's a good crank and gear setup. if you go 11-34 you'll get a little lower ratio. any is better than none.
11:49 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> i'm stuck at 34-30.
11:50 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> decided I can't get a 33 to work. it fits with the chain, but not the crank mounting.
11:50 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> I can ride up a hill at about 3 mph..... without falling over....
12:08 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Lol... I finally made it big! I just got an email from pcbway wondering if there are any projects they could help with..
12:10 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/iXtGOHNmRyYXhASzWccmWpIV/PXL_20240612_164929172.jpg
12:10 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Basement motors
12:13 PM Gardenweazel: Potential boat anchors?
12:26 PM roycroft: like they want to sponsor you, or like they want you to give them money?
12:33 PM JT-Shop: roguish when I get below 5 mph going up a hill I quit and rest a bit
12:34 PM JT-Shop: https://www.amazon.com/SHIMANO-CS-HG31-Hyperglide-Cassette-11-32T/dp/B005DTX1VS?th=1&psc=1

12:37 PM JT-Shop: https://www.amazon.com/KMC-X8-93-Bicycle-Chain-7-3mm/dp/B0013BV540?th=1
12:37 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> JT-Shop: everyone has they're own style... best thing is you're getting out for some fresh air and a little cardio workout.....
12:38 PM skunkworks: roycroft: it is worded as they would make the circuit boards and enclosures..
12:38 PM skunkworks: *free services...
12:39 PM skunkworks: I would certainly take them up on it - but that is future me..
12:40 PM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> JT-Shop: I have a Fuji Auric, it ha sa single front 36T chain rings with an 11-42T Cassette, i love the gearing spread and simplicity of the single front chain ring
12:41 PM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> * has a single front 36T front chain ring
12:41 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Lcvette: Chris, sounds nice, get on and go.........
12:42 PM lcnc-relay: <redeye_joe> I am trying to get the pi4 linuxcnc image to install and it wont show up on my network which I think is a problem with the rpi imager and my network ssid has a space in it. Also I dont have a micro hdmi cable, so I am trying to install it headless, i tried to add a wpa_supplicant.conf but still not connecting, anyone have any ideas. seems newer pi images are not using the wpa conf file?
12:45 PM JT-Woodshop: lcvette I have a single chain ring on my mtn bike and love it
12:47 PM lcnc-relay: <redeye_joe> * ideas?
12:47 PM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> yeah no brainer for trail riding in my opinion, I converted my wife's trek lush to single fron chain with matching cassette also and she now loves the bike, less fisgeting on the trails and fewer derails
12:48 PM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> * front chainring with matching cassette also and she now loves the bike, less fidgeting
12:48 PM JT-Shop: been too long since I messed with a rpi4 to remember
12:51 PM JT-Shop: dunno how you could enable ssh without a monitor...
12:58 PM JT-Shop: lcvette I put a 12-36 shimano cassette on the mtn bike
12:59 PM JT-Shop: with a 30t chainring
12:59 PM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> 10 or 11 speed?
01:00 PM JT-Shop: 9
01:00 PM JT-Shop: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LGLYYRM?th=1&psc=1
01:01 PM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> Ah
01:01 PM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> No room for 11sp cassette?
01:01 PM JT-Shop: no need
01:01 PM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> Gotcha
01:02 PM JT-Shop: I use maybe 6 speeds max where I ride
01:02 PM JT-Shop: and usually the bottom 3-4
01:04 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/NMZeBMPvyfLBbqQkojgVwhTm/20240612_125733_2419172916179464397.jpg
01:09 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> Glad to see you guys riding.....good for the lungs and heart, not too bad on the knees and the rest
01:10 PM JT-Shop: road bike is easier on the body
01:16 PM JT-Shop: hopefully I have the correct cassette tool...
01:17 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> that can be a problem, but if it's just changing a cassette on the same hub, you should be ok.
01:41 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
01:58 PM rdtsc2: @redeye_joe why not move the sd card to a computer with pi imager and the iso?
01:58 PM rdtsc2: burn it, install, voila.
02:00 PM rdtsc2: n.b. the config.txt is now in boot/broadcom
02:04 PM rdtsc2: n.b. use menu_config instead of raspi-config
02:07 PM rdtsc2: n.b. if attempting vnc, use x11vnc server. others will cause trouble~!
02:11 PM lcnc-relay: <redeye_joe> I pulled it out of pi and back in my pc, and I see a config.txt file but no menu_config.. and only folder is overlays
02:14 PM lcnc-relay: <redeye_joe> I was using putty
02:20 PM lcnc-relay: <redeye_joe> I was thinking that pi imager was problem why it would not access my network, but I loaded a default bookworm with destop with imager and it was able to get on my network and I was able to login in ssh with putty. but I am still unable to get on pi with linuxcnc pi 4 version on the linuxcnc github
02:20 PM lcnc-relay: <redeye_joe> * downloads page
02:20 PM lcnc-relay: <redeye_joe> * pi on my network
02:24 PM Tom_L: you might be ahead of the game getting a hdmi cable
02:24 PM xxcoder: nice clickspring clip today!
02:41 PM xxcoder: jeez. thought it was some bs "restore" thing but man guy goes super detailed in restore, though dunno if id agree with some of it lol https://youtu.be/OAPJ40N6nVE
02:41 PM xxcoder: restoring nes clone
02:43 PM xxcoder: made in 1995, and at some point left outside for years or something?
02:46 PM rdtsc2: @redeye_joe use the RPi4 / 5 links here: http://linuxcnc.org/downloads/
03:02 PM rdtsc2: Want an .xz image, that one is ready-to-go
03:02 PM rdtsc2: Thanks to the efforts of RodW and Cornholio :)
03:02 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/zSUiMKWLMCKqwBwEaXBVICgt/PXL_20240612_195216396.MP.jpg
03:02 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Should I keep those? I have 2
03:05 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I think they were used as VFD's before vfd's.. (ac motor ran them with a variable speed belt drive)
03:06 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I think in the back of dads mind - he was going to use them to make a 3 phase generator
03:09 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> 1800rpm would give 60hz and a bit over 220v
03:10 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> but 20 amps.. not really much
03:10 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I think I am making up my mind.. lol
03:37 PM Tom_L: hard to get rid of stuff knowing it was saved for a purpose
03:39 PM xxcoder: im wondering if I should retire my linuxcnc pc
03:39 PM xxcoder: it was already old when I retired it as main pc, and its much older now
03:39 PM xxcoder: ptobbly would nab the tower, since its very very good tower, best I could buy in mid 2000s
03:41 PM xxcoder: roycroft: still want the book scanner and delta printer?
03:42 PM xxcoder: I think I plan to make trip south in a month or so
03:42 PM roycroft: yes, i am still interested
03:42 PM xxcoder: ok
03:42 PM roycroft: but i'm not going to be able ot travel to get the stuff
03:42 PM roycroft: i could come down to the valley, if it's arranged in advance
03:42 PM roycroft: meaning i could travel to eugene
03:42 PM xxcoder: how long drive is from vancouver to eugene
03:43 PM roycroft: vancover washington?
03:43 PM roycroft: that's a bit under 2 hours
03:43 PM xxcoder: nah cananda ;) yeah usa vancouver :)
03:43 PM roycroft: i don't mean to be difficult, but i'm going to be moving and dealing with the old house until the end of the summer
03:43 PM xxcoder: yeah completely understandable
03:46 PM xxcoder: trimet sounds interneting
03:47 PM xxcoder: hmm looks like no lol
03:49 PM xxcoder: amtrak from vancouver to eugune cheapest is 23 lol but dont think I can bring printer and scanner with me
03:49 PM xxcoder: direct drive is best still it seems
03:56 PM Tom_L: trebuchet it
03:57 PM xxcoder: if you are willing to setup one here, and warrant everything to be sent, then im willing to pay $40 for delivery
03:57 PM rdtsc2: trebuchet lol
03:58 PM rdtsc2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdXOS-B0Bus
04:00 PM Tom_L: problem with that is, i'd charge admission
04:03 PM xxcoder: lol
04:03 PM xxcoder: I saw mini fancy bow recently, slightly tempted to get it lol
04:03 PM xxcoder: play with it
04:13 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcodery> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/lyqzOTMxXGYpHFGBfiFtmIIj/image.png
04:13 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcodery> this
04:14 PM xxcoder: reviews say they dont add notch to arrow backs which is bad for safety but easy enough to add em
04:23 PM rdtsc2: Just big enough to be dangerous lol
04:26 PM lcnc-relay: <redeye_joe> that is badass
04:27 PM lcnc-relay: <redeye_joe> i want one
04:28 PM Tom_L: machine one
04:29 PM Tom_L: finally got around to ordering a box to put my test pc in
04:32 PM Tom_L: you can get one of those for $10
04:33 PM Tom_L: https://www.amazon.com/Compound-Material-Catapult-Shooting-Entertainment/dp/B0BKZW27FY/ref=sr_1_5
04:35 PM Tom_L: a bit smaller
04:48 PM xxcoder: it does look cool. ordered one lol. one with umm whats ut called again? tips, one that stick to glass and stuff
04:57 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/gMYDiXrPVDIruXuDwEbqoFeC/20240612_163649.mp4
05:09 PM Tom_L: still no babies?
05:24 PM JT-Shop: nuttin yet
05:24 PM Tom_L: she looks ready
05:34 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcodery> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/raxgSLSShGCczgITIfbjRoPc/CIMG1068.png
05:34 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcodery> 2010 dragon boat race lol found some old pics
05:34 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcodery> it was amazing. too bad it was couple days after I broke my rib so I couldnt join the race
05:35 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcodery> right one is deaf team, as you can see drum guy using stick to hit deck rather than drum for feeling
05:46 PM xxcoder: lol soon after buying that fancy compond bow, I find the crossbow I bought years ago in box
05:46 PM xxcoder: still cleaning crud out of stuff
05:50 PM JT-Shop: now you have at least one of each
05:55 PM xxcoder: yep. certainly keeping one I found
05:55 PM xxcoder: I know I bought two, but first one was so badly built it lost 2 screws as I was brining it up from box
05:56 PM xxcoder: got refunded and bought this one I found
06:20 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> did you get it working with the default linuxcnc image?
06:23 PM xxcoder: my old lcnc pc? yeah
06:25 PM xxcoder: found the first crossbow. seems more bolts had fell off and it lost trigger and "arrow" holder
06:25 PM xxcoder: wire and bow seems compitable with second one so ill keep it to strip those out later
07:48 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> well - those two 'alternators' made it outside
07:48 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I have another few motors that are going to come out of the shop. The rest are in the other polebuilding
07:52 PM Tom_L: is tplink better / worse than realtek pcie cards?
07:56 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> i dont know about tplink.. realtek is usually closed binarys
07:57 PM Tom_L: i have one realtek that works and a dead one... same chipset
07:57 PM Tom_L: i think the card is bad
07:57 PM Tom_L: won't work in either pc
07:58 PM rdtsc_away is now known as rdtsc
07:59 PM Tom_L: guess i'll try the realtek
08:03 PM rdtsc: I think they're both from the same geographical and geopolitical area, i.e. very similar.
08:08 PM Tom_L: no doubt
08:14 PM bjorkintosh: well, one's from ROC, the other from pROC.
08:20 PM lcnc-relay: <redeye_joe> Not yet, I dont have a micro hdmi cable so I tried all day to get it connected to my network, but I can see what is going wrong, I can get it to connect with non linuxcnc version out of the default pi imager. and I tried to do some other work arounds, but nothing working yet. I order a cable so I should be able to hook a monitor up and see what is going on.
08:22 PM lcnc-relay: <captainhindsight_.> looks like JT's Safari Adventure Land
08:28 PM rdtsc: sorry @redeye_joe, tough without a display.
08:29 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> yeah, you are using the image on linuxcnc website?
08:30 PM lcnc-relay: <redeye_joe> yeah, when i use it, pi wont connect to my network
08:31 PM lcnc-relay: <redeye_joe> tried to get remote desktop working, and also tried to install another version and then to get linuxcnc installed but that didnt work either... amazon said tomorrow by 10pm...
08:32 PM lcnc-relay: <redeye_joe> even tried to find one at the thrift stores,, well also went searching for db25 cable... but nada
08:37 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> are you trying to ssh into it?
09:04 PM rdtsc: on the Rpi4 .xz image, ssh wasn't installed IIRC, had to install it
09:09 PM Tom_L: i think it's off by default
09:50 PM lcnc-relay: <redeye_joe> I set it up in the imager settings which worked with the default image I tried, that was able to connect to my network, and I was able to ssh into... but the linuxcnc image would connect to my network, so I wasnt able to try ssh..
09:51 PM lcnc-relay: <redeye_joe> yes, I was tryin to ssh into it and then my plan was to set up remote desktop
09:52 PM lcnc-relay: <redeye_joe> which I am wanting to use eventually so I can run it headless on the plasma that I am converting to the octopus and ramora
10:36 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> yeah its not installed by defauly
11:34 PM rdtsc is now known as rdtsc_away
