12:19 AM roycroft: for you folks who enjoy watch repair videos, here's a restoration of an 18th century verge fusee pocket watch - much different mechanism and construction than modern watches:
12:31 AM roycroft: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4p5ZaeoTE8
12:31 AM XXCoder: skipping though it a bit
12:31 AM XXCoder: man those early watches
12:31 AM roycroft: yeah
12:31 AM roycroft: every part was hand made
12:31 AM CaptHindsight: roycroft: how is the arm? Do they want you working it or resting it?
12:31 AM roycroft: i'm doing light exercises, mainly for mobility
12:31 AM roycroft: not strength exercises yet
12:31 AM roycroft: it's coming along well, but it's going to be quite a while before it will be semi-normally functional
12:32 AM CaptHindsight: unlucky set of genes or did he have any underlining health issues before?
12:32 AM XXCoder: MS
12:32 AM CaptHindsight: oh yeah
12:33 AM CaptHindsight: crap sorry to hear
12:33 AM XXCoder: MS had been stable for years
12:36 AM CaptHindsight: is anything helping him?
12:42 AM XXCoder: working with doctor and all
12:43 AM XXCoder: hes been not working for months now. too hard to
12:58 AM Deejay: moin
01:03 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> Morning 🙂
02:13 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> Hello
03:00 AM lcnc-relay: <kimchikimkim> Hello! I was wondering if anyone had tried the orange pi 2 zero with LinuxCNC? H616 SoC with 1gb of DDR3
03:00 AM XXCoder: orange pi zero 2? interesting. new product?
03:47 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:00 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:17 AM Tom_L: morning
04:57 AM JT-Cave: morning
06:57 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
06:57 AM * JT-Shop heads for wolf creek
08:11 AM lcnc-relay: <JT> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/IaDzIGtAcskelINdCJMfCIGE/20240530_072627.jpg
08:19 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> did you bring your chainsaw on your bike, JT ? 😉
08:27 AM Unterhaus_ is now known as unterhausen
08:28 AM unterhausen: there was a log on one of my favorite trails I was going to get rid of, and brought my sawzall. But I forgot the batteries
08:40 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> BWAHAHAHA!, that is just how my luck would be
08:50 AM JT-Cave: even though motorized anything is prohibited I still use my side by side if I take a chain saw back there provided I can get down the trail
08:57 AM JT-Cave: but it's been years since I did that
08:59 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> JT, do you ride with a Camel-Bak, or some sort of backpack? if so: https://www.amazon.com/Mossy-Oak-Backpacking-Bushcraft-Included/dp/B071Z1Y34D
08:59 AM JT-Cave: I have a camel back but don't use it any more
09:00 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> well... like their slogan, "Hydrate or die" 😉
09:01 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> but anyway, i have a similar saw in my Camel-Bak Mule, in case i find a blow-down
09:03 AM JT-Cave: I just go around or go back
09:04 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> trails don't maintain themselves... i figure, it is my payment for being allowed to use the trail 🙂
09:22 AM unterhausen: the mtb trail builders like a folding saw, but I gave up when it cost $100. I might take the sawsall out again instead
09:24 AM unterhausen: baek ma gs-600 54" long when unfolded https://www.leevalley.com/en-us/shop/garden/garden-care/saws/75157-folding-trail-saw?item=PB340
09:25 AM * JT-Shop did all the trail maintenance he is going to do and has retired from trail maintenance
09:25 AM JT-Shop: that's a pretty bad ass saw
09:26 AM JT-Shop: Simon a bloke in the woods has a more compact saw
09:26 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> Another question, do you have youtube videos to advice in order to learn the setup of linuxcnc ?
09:26 AM lcnc-relay: I saw several videos from Talla83 covering specific topics. Now I'm able to check the I/O of my card but I would like to begin the setup of all push button and so but I have no idea where to start. I found example on the forum but it sounds chinese to me so I must forgot few step in my learning trip
09:36 AM Tom_L: JT-Shop, is anybody responsible for clearing the trail?
09:38 AM Tom_L: other than JT_logging_inc
09:39 AM JT-Woodshop: it's a US Forest Service trail
09:49 AM Tom_L: started pouring just as we started unloading groceries
09:49 AM Tom_L: the prediction was an hour late
09:56 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> sunny here finally...
10:09 AM JT-Shop: we are supposed to be going to http://www.fortdechartres.us/fort-de-chartres-54th-rendezvous-2024/
10:09 AM JT-Shop: Saturday, but the Wx does not look good
10:16 AM Tom_L: looks like fun
10:17 AM Tom_L: on radar, the storm keeps building here
10:18 AM Tom_L: tote your cannon along and show it...
10:19 AM JT-Shop: I could bring a photo of the cannon but nothing else would fit
10:23 AM JT-Shop: I could fit the worm, ram and scrubber in the trunk
12:01 PM JT-Cave: hopefully the weather changes by Saturday
12:18 PM roycroft: it's going to be nice here, which is good, as i'm moving tomorrow
12:18 PM JT-Shop: cool
12:18 PM roycroft: warm, but mild temperatures, and no rin
12:18 PM roycroft: rain
12:18 PM roycroft: everything i could want
12:26 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> roycroft: how's the wrist ?
12:27 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/cRtwqKNOODlkkPndFZiqSzNw/20240530_122136.jpg
12:28 PM lcnc-relay: <JT> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/oUCGmhtzKwWLVFHedCjTcmIx/20240530_122142.jpg
12:29 PM JT-Shop: glue up went well... nap time now
12:43 PM unterhausen: I found out how to bend large hoops on my di-acro bender. From people that bend conduit for their gardens
12:44 PM unterhausen: They do it in segments. Circumference divided by 36 if you bend each segment 10 degrees
12:45 PM unterhausen: Seems obvious in retrospect.
12:48 PM Jym: hello
12:51 PM skunkworks: Jym: !
12:51 PM Jym: skunkworks How ya been?
12:51 PM skunkworks: Ok - busy as always. How about you?
12:54 PM Jym: Not too bad, trying to get thru projects and failing miserably, lol
01:00 PM skunkworks: I have way too many projects and I just keep bouncing between them..
01:06 PM XXCoder: yo
01:17 PM roycroft: boingy boingy boingy
01:17 PM * roycroft needs to get back to packing
01:18 PM roycroft: i've found that although i use my broken wrist very little in that process, even using it a little causes pain after a while, so i have to keep stopping to take short breaks
01:18 PM roycroft: but i'm out of time, and anticipate tonight will be a very long night, as the movers arrive at 8am tomorrow
01:27 PM XXCoder: oe
01:59 PM Connor: Which is correct, or are they all correct?
01:59 PM Connor: T10 G43 M6
01:59 PM Connor: or
01:59 PM Connor: M6 t10 G43
01:59 PM Connor: or
01:59 PM Connor: M6 T10
01:59 PM Connor: G43 H10
02:04 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> T10 M6
02:04 PM lcnc-relay: G43
02:04 PM lcnc-relay: will load the tool, and then set the offset from the tool table. at least that's how i have been doing it... could be wrong...
02:05 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> that may all be correct, but don't quote me
02:05 PM XXCoder: 2 liner is more common from what I saw when I edited gcode at work
02:05 PM unterhausen: I'm going to go ride my bike, and think about how Travis says he's slower than me
02:06 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> my top speed is 11.6MPH
02:06 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> so far...
02:07 PM unterhausen: the first half of my ride is downhill, so I'll go faster than that. The way back, maybe not so fast
02:07 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> if it ain't on Strava, it didn't happen 😉
02:09 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> <-- seriosly thinking about starting a LinuxCNC Strava team 😉
02:11 PM XXCoder: I had this rule related to cycling, "50% rule". assuming you are going in a loop, ie start and end is same spot, you will go down and up equally. so if you see massive down slope, it might be fun but you gonna go back up, even if route is different on way back.
02:11 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> very true
02:12 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> better to go up first, then ride down 😉
02:12 PM XXCoder: yeah I tried to pack uphill parts first as im less tired then
02:15 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> whomever does the LinuxCNC website SSL certs, wiki.linuxcnc.org has expired
02:18 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcodery> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/jhqKuBrHkZqclSbpcyrVOCxe/main-qimg-75e220672f1144b51f06f0fe3f2c2e6b.png
02:18 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcodery> what didnt know that too
02:21 PM JT-Woodshop: photo shopped
02:21 PM * JT-Woodshop has no idea who takes care of wiki
02:24 PM XXCoder: chickens can swim apparently. saw some videos
02:24 PM XXCoder: https://youtu.be/j8-jZqVzz5Q
02:25 PM JT-Shop: it's not natural for them to get into water
02:26 PM XXCoder: dunno about that but yeah I wouldnt bring em into water. its fine if they go in by themselves
02:27 PM XXCoder: interesting. due to their orginal biome morsoon seasons they have instacts to swim to coast, but generally dont swim
02:27 PM JT-Shop: I can see that
02:29 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> https://www.strava.com/clubs/linuxcnc for anybody that wants to join the LinuxCNC Strava club. i made it multisport so you can track any activity... for anybody here that wants to join. Strava is free, though they do push the paid option pretty heavy 😉
02:32 PM JT-Shop: I don't join anything that had endless ads
02:32 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> Notes on Strava: if you join, set your home address privacy settings so members don't have a dirrect access to your home location if that's where you start tracking from
02:32 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> only ads on strava are strava ads
02:33 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> First wiring test and both motors are working 😬😬😬😎
02:33 PM XXCoder: nice on wiring test!
02:33 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> Im very happy
02:33 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> very nice
02:33 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> Now let's move on the configuration and all buttons
02:34 PM JT-Shop: for sure I won't join if they want my address
02:34 PM Tom_L: now this is becoming an ad platform?
02:34 PM JT-Shop: seems like it
02:34 PM Tom_L: gawd...
02:34 PM JT-Shop: vibram nice
02:34 PM Tom_L: what's the world coming to
02:34 PM JT-Shop: no comment
02:35 PM Tom_L: once a year in a channel one of the ops would kick everybody out just to see who was still active
02:35 PM * JT-Shop thinks about what size tubing for the XL and XXL lift
02:35 PM Tom_L: it woke up a few lurkers
02:35 PM JT-Shop: LOL
02:35 PM JT-Shop: so a kick is just that you just have to /j again?
02:35 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> sorry for spamming... 😦 i thought i was doing something fun for people... guess not
02:35 PM Tom_L: yes
02:36 PM JT-Shop: some folks might like it but it's not for me
02:36 PM Tom_L: the majority of ppl here are here for either cnc in general or specifically linuxcnc
02:36 PM Tom_L: i know it's kinda hard to tell that sometimes
02:37 PM JT-Shop: yup we sometimes mention other stuff...
02:37 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> deleted club 😦
02:37 PM Tom_L: archivist left due to that i think
02:38 PM Tom_L: there hasn't been a steady flow of cnc questions here of late either so i can see how it would drift
02:39 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> probably my fault, as usual 😦
02:39 PM Tom_L: it is !
02:39 PM Tom_L: jk...
02:40 PM Tom_L: sometimes you need leather skin just to be on irc
02:41 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> something i will never have...
02:42 PM JT-Shop: how thick is 14 gauge steel?
02:42 PM Connor: 5/64"
02:42 PM Tom_L: 5/64
02:42 PM Tom_L: connor googled faster than me
02:43 PM CaptHindsight: 0.078125 in.
02:43 PM Tom_L: i have a printout of wire & sheet gages somewhere but i'd have to dig
02:43 PM JT-Shop: actually it's 0.083"
02:43 PM Tom_L: the kbd was closer
02:43 PM JT-Shop: found my steel book
02:43 PM Connor: .0747"
02:43 PM Tom_L: and there are different wire gages
02:44 PM Connor: They're tolerances..
02:44 PM Connor: and different standards..
02:44 PM CaptHindsight: +/- 1"
02:44 PM Connor: https://www.metalsupermarkets.com/sheet-metal-gauge-chart/
02:44 PM Connor: .07812 is for stainless
02:44 PM JT-Shop: I should have said a36 tubing
02:45 PM JT-Shop: square tubing
02:46 PM Tom_L: for the platform?
02:46 PM JT-Shop: for the ceramic cooker lift
02:46 PM Tom_L: oh
02:46 PM Tom_L: reworking that again?
02:47 PM Tom_L: the other guy's clamp didn't work out?
02:47 PM Tom_L: his design... iirc
02:48 PM JT-Shop: would have worked on a fork lift but not hanging from a chain...
02:48 PM JT-Shop: way too heavy in the back to balance empty and loaded
02:56 PM Tom_L: it would be nice to have a list of maintainers somewhere as time moves on and ppl 'retire'
02:57 PM JT-Shop: well the linuxcnc.org is owned by SW Pados and I've not seen him in here in 10-15 years...
02:58 PM Tom_L: who maintains the: wiki, webpage, git repo etc etc
02:58 PM JT-Shop: Seb and Chris R are "owners" as well as me
02:58 PM JT-Shop: we need new maintainers...
02:58 PM Tom_L: irc channels...
02:59 PM Tom_L: there are channels i wasn't even aware of
02:59 PM Tom_L: probably not in use now
02:59 PM JT-Shop: ah that's us and xx
02:59 PM JT-Shop: jeff deleted the other channels
02:59 PM Tom_L: ok
02:59 PM Tom_L: there are still rights we aren't privi to
03:00 PM JT-Shop: what's that?
03:00 PM Tom_L: since he is the 'founder'
03:00 PM Tom_L: and should name a co founder or pass it on
03:00 PM JT-Shop: didn't he remove himself from here
03:00 PM Tom_L: no but he want's to
03:00 PM JT-Shop: he should pass it on then
03:00 PM Tom_L: at least that's what i gathered
03:01 PM Tom_L: he left the same note on the mail list
03:02 PM JT-Shop: no he removed himself from the irc and only Seb and Chris are users
03:02 PM JT-Shop: how do you tell who the users are on here?
03:02 PM Tom_L: it's been so long i'd have to check
03:03 PM Tom_L: there's a command
03:03 PM Tom_L: it varies from one host to another but they're all quite similar
03:03 PM JT-Shop: Chris hasn't done anything on emc for years, only Seb still runs the build bot
03:04 PM Tom_L: i'll pm a list of commands
03:05 PM CaptHindsight: how about cloning the forums and wiki and moving to another with a working comment editor? :)
03:05 PM CaptHindsight: since we can't fix the editor
03:07 PM Tom_L: there used to be a 'founder' command but i don't see one
03:10 PM JT-Shop: so you and the frog in your pocket have a plan?
03:12 PM JT-Shop: I'm all eyes if you do
03:12 PM lcnc-relay: <CaptHindsight (@capt_hindsight:matrix.org)> is the Matrix bridge working again?
03:13 PM CaptHindsight: much success \0/
03:13 PM CaptHindsight: thanks TurBoss
03:30 PM XXCoder: you might want to change matrix nick to something slightly different so it uses short form name
03:30 PM XXCoder: but yeah been working for a while now :)
03:32 PM CaptHindsight: been busy
03:37 PM unterhausen: I need a unicode to ascii converter to combat spammers
03:38 PM unterhausen: google probably has one
03:38 PM CaptHindsight: one that you can cut-n-paste or something like a Python app to do it?
03:39 PM unterhausen: the problem is there are almost 150000 unicode characters. ℂ
03:40 PM unterhausen: That last string displays as a capital 'C' on chrome
03:41 PM unterhausen: The wiki says it's a Chinese character, so it may depend on your browser
03:41 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.geeksforgeeks.org/convert-unicode-to-ascii-in-python/
03:43 PM unterhausen: I wonder what the spammers are using to find their characters
04:03 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> hey everyone.
04:04 PM XXCoder: hey
04:04 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> i still have problem running my sim on my home laptop
04:04 PM Tom_L: post the errors
04:04 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> still get the error: /usr/share/linuxcnc/hallib/axis_manualtoolchange.hal:1: execv(hal_manualtoolchange): No such file or directory
04:05 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> i've checked, the file is there
04:05 PM Tom_L: path?
04:06 PM Tom_L: i think we went over this.. did you check the path?
04:06 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> umm, you mean my system $PATH?
04:06 PM Tom_L: i would think so... i've not come across that error yet
04:06 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> but the path to the file is in the error lol
04:07 PM XXCoder: whats line 1 in hal anyway
04:07 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> you mean the error generator knows where the file is but the part that wants to run it doesn't?
04:07 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> lemme check
04:09 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> this is the main hal file:
04:09 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> https://pastebin.com/Sk1Zk9nt
04:09 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> oh wait...
04:09 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> you mean the line 1 in the file that does the error
04:09 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> lol, silly me
04:09 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> one moment
04:09 PM XXCoder: yeah :)
04:11 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> it's: loadusr -W hal_manualtoolchange
04:11 PM lcnc-relay: the whole file:
04:11 PM lcnc-relay: https://pastebin.com/xjAfJeCr
04:12 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> I think I'm starting to understand... if this path is not in $PATH, it doesn't know where to look
04:12 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> why did it work before tho
04:13 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> let me try adding this path to system path
04:15 PM roycroft: the jury hvae reached a verdict
04:15 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> ok, it might have been it.
04:15 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> unfortunately i'm still screwed.
04:15 PM roycroft: i think i know what it will be, but we'll know for sure in minutes
04:15 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> milltask: error while loading shared libraries: libboost_python311.so.1.83.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
04:15 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> lol
04:16 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> my OS updated to python 3.12 recently ^_^'
04:16 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> 34 counts felony guilty
04:16 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> _is rebuilding the package_
04:17 PM JT-Shop: https://youtu.be/rc0s8NPpdPE?list=PLB00JHoTw1TeX82Qw8hoFLRJI89Us_jMw&t=1125
04:17 PM JT-Shop: now that's using a planer to the limits
04:17 PM roycroft: and the verdict is what i thought it would be
04:18 PM roycroft: history has been made again, in a bad way
04:18 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> JT i'm so envious looking at this beautiful wood.
04:18 PM Tom_L: roycroft, perspective...
04:18 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> all i have is pine and some scraps of various hardwoods
04:19 PM JT-Shop: sitka spruce for the spars
04:20 PM Tom_L: they also use that alot in musical instruments for their sound qualities
04:21 PM JT-Shop: and wood airplanes
04:21 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> oh man. now the compilation failed
04:21 PM bjorkintosh: the spruce goose being a famous example.
04:22 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, my friend's dad used to restore stearmans
04:22 PM JT-Shop: the spruce goose was a technological breakthrough in adhesives
04:22 PM roycroft: if i may, i'd like to ask a favor of the channel
04:23 PM bjorkintosh: JT-Shop, you don't say. sounds intriguing. is there a good sauce?
04:23 PM roycroft: as i'm in crazy moving mode, and not here much, and as skunkworks is also not here much, would someone please relay a message to him next time he's about?
04:23 PM roycroft: let him know that i have shipped his megasquirt, and if he needs tracking info he can email me
04:23 PM Tom_L: too bad we don't have a msg bot
04:23 PM roycroft: jt has my email address
04:23 PM Tom_L: ok
04:23 PM Bushman: checking for python pango module... Traceback (most recent call last): File "<string>", line 1, in <module>
04:24 PM roycroft: hanks
04:24 PM Bushman: ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'gi'
04:24 PM roycroft: thanks, rather
04:24 PM Tom_L: he does read the logs i think
04:24 PM Tom_L: and it got logged
04:24 PM Bushman: what the hell is that
04:24 PM roycroft: that would work :)
04:24 PM bjorkintosh: https://kollagora.com/index.php/us/techniques-en-us/famous-case-en-us/133-famous-case-spruce-goose-en-us
04:24 PM bjorkintosh: wow. I didn't expect that.
04:24 PM Tom_L: Bushman, as in GI joe?
04:24 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> lol, maybe? who knows!
04:25 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> not me. >_<'
04:25 PM Tom_L: iirc it didn't fly that far
04:25 PM bjorkintosh: it was still in ground effect.
04:25 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> maybe he needs some gastro-intestinal stuff?
04:25 PM JT-Shop: it did fly once
04:25 PM bjorkintosh: it behaved more like an ekranoplan?
04:26 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> https://www.politico.com/
04:46 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> ok, i'm stumped. google says i need to install PyGObject but PIP refuses to do that cause python is "externally managed" and my package manager doesn't have it for python3
04:46 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> year after year i'm starting to dislike python more and more.
04:47 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> so many things broke because of it that no other software component broke for me so far.
04:47 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> again, no SIM for me tonight ;/
04:48 PM XXCoder: yeah python sucks :(
04:49 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> when I was little, I was taught that libraries are gonna make the programs smaller because every program will use the same set of libraries.
04:50 PM XXCoder: sadly, we have libraries version of https://xkcd.com/927/
04:50 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> now people are using things like appimage or flatpacks or docker so they can ship the libraries with the software because OSes don't have the "right version"
04:50 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> lol
04:51 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> exactly!
04:51 PM lcnc-relay: <innerbushman#0> all the distros suck! i'll make my own distro! with blackjack and hookers
04:54 PM XXCoder: ill never use flatpak and snap
04:54 PM XXCoder: appimages is big but works fine
05:24 PM JT-Shop: I've been getting more and more political ads on my cell phone... I wonder if there is a limit to how many numbers you can block LOL
05:25 PM XXCoder: yeah dunno
05:25 PM XXCoder: I constantly get cwll phone calls. like I will ever answer
05:25 PM JT-Shop: I wonder if texting STOP really works or it just a way to see if they have a live person
05:26 PM XXCoder: I miss that old cell phone special years ago. it had unlimited text and data, and voice calls is blocked and not allowed
05:26 PM XXCoder: it was for deaf people
05:26 PM JT-Shop: you should be able to block every number not on your contacts
05:27 PM XXCoder: I suppose but meh
05:28 PM JT-Shop: the only problem for me is that occasionally it
05:28 PM JT-Shop: s a valid call
05:28 PM JT-Shop: no message and you get blocked
05:30 PM XXCoder: whats funny is spam calls on my VP number. they never let it ring long enough for my vp to even let me know theres call coming
05:32 PM JT-Shop: what's a vp?
05:32 PM XXCoder: video phone
05:32 PM JT-Shop: ah cool
05:32 PM XXCoder: I miss tty phones sometimes lol
05:33 PM XXCoder: it warded off spam calls quite good because what they hear is machine like fax so they think its invalid number and delist
05:34 PM XXCoder: sadly tty wasnt a thing for couple decades now
05:34 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, if it's a service, STOP is honored but if it's coming from an independent party it's up to them to process the request
05:35 PM Tom_L: alot of the services are overseas
05:35 PM JT-Shop: how do you tell if it's a service?
05:36 PM Tom_L: i'm not sure you can
05:36 PM Tom_L: i used one out of S Africa for a while until they started screwing up and recently switched to one from UK which is alot better
05:37 PM Tom_L: i pay for a virtual number on this one which doesn't change
05:37 PM Tom_L: the previous one was random
05:37 PM JT-Shop: what do you use that for?
05:38 PM Tom_L: reminders for clients
05:38 PM Tom_L: not random ads
05:39 PM Tom_L: https://www.textmagic.com/
05:39 PM Tom_L: i had an app on my phone that did txt from a list but an upgrade made it quit working
05:41 PM JT-Shop: on my older android I could block numbers that start with and that was real nice
05:42 PM XXCoder: start with what?
05:42 PM JT-Shop: 800 855 etc
05:42 PM XXCoder: ahh ok
05:43 PM Tom_L: mine is something like that but i forget the number
05:44 PM Tom_L: data only virtual number
05:44 PM JT-Shop: on the old phone you set block number that start with any number you want
05:45 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> if Trumpass goes to jail, his secret service agents may have to go with him......haha
05:46 PM Tom_L: starts with 833
05:48 PM Tom_L: i can also use it on the pc to send my phone a txt instead of email etc if i need to remember something
05:50 PM JT-Shop: ??
05:50 PM XXCoder: nicw
05:51 PM Tom_L: i'm sure there are other apps that can but once in a while i'll send something from my pc to the phone via txt
05:51 PM Tom_L: not it's main use
05:51 PM JT-Shop: most carriers allow you to send an email to a phone limited size thou
05:51 PM Tom_L: i know, i get my email there as well
05:52 PM JT-Shop: email as text
05:52 PM Tom_L: but sometimes it's just quicker for me to cut paste and txt
05:52 PM JT-Shop: In the To field, enter the 10-digit mobile number of the recipient followed by @vtext.com
05:52 PM Tom_L: just an option
05:52 PM Tom_L: i know

05:57 PM CaptHindsight: roguish: I didn't know that you were that old :p
05:57 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> saw it in the media

05:57 PM JT-Shop: I thought you lit the fire...
05:58 PM Tom_L: yeah, i wouldn't admit it either...
06:00 PM * JT-Shop calls it a day
06:50 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> @JT-Shop "Chris hasn't done anything on emc for years, only Seb still runs the build bot"
06:50 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> they both drove out the the meeting at tormach last year, so they are at least somewhat interested still
06:59 PM Tom_L: where was that at?
07:00 PM Tom_L: Wisconsin...
