12:16 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> Morning šŸ™‚
12:28 AM XXCoder: 10 pm, very pre-morning ;)
01:01 AM Deejay: moin
02:51 AM lcnc-relay: <gamer9house> Hi, I want to ask how hard is it to configure ethercat servo drivers with raspberry pi4?
02:52 AM lcnc-relay: <gamer9house> Ofc using LinuxCNC. Iā€™m buying a driver tempted to get ethercat type instead of step/dir
04:32 AM Tom_L: morning
06:46 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> Hello
06:46 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/tyPwrKYUNcNYdzcQcAYdFrPX/rn_image_picker_lib_temp_134dfb22-fe36-44ea-9774-8742d6fd0093.jpg
06:46 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> Any idea how to solve this issue please?
06:47 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> I'm a beginner, following talla83 videos
06:47 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> Ping is working well
06:48 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> Sudo mesaflash readhmid working well too
06:49 AM JT-Cave: better to paste the whole output https://paste.debian.net/
06:50 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> I don't have access to internet yet on this computer
06:50 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> But working on it
06:57 AM JT-Cave: sneaker net...
07:04 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> Is it normal to have the lsusb command not found?
07:05 AM JT-Cave: not on Debian
07:06 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> I just installed linuxcnc from the latest iso available
07:08 AM JT-Cave: I've never used the linuxcnc iso because I don't care for the desktop environment that someone chose
07:09 AM bjork1intosh: JT-Cave, how do you install linuxcnc then?
07:09 AM JT-Cave: sudo apt install linuxcnc
07:10 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> "The repository 'cdrom://[Debian GNU/Linux 12 _Bookworm_ - Snapshot amd64 LIVE/INSTALL Binary 20240307-23:28] bookworm Release' does not have a Release file.
07:10 AM lcnc-relay: N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default."
07:11 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> something must be wrong in my install then
07:13 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> * with
07:14 AM * JT-Cave goes to ride for a while... too muddy at Wolf Creek so Shelby Road it is
08:50 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> made a new config from scratch and still have this issue. really strange
09:16 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> Issue solved, i modified the HAL file. I dont know why PNCconf setup 2 serials put just deleted one and it's fine
09:16 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> now i need to figure out why apt update don't work
09:18 AM Scopeuk: Apt update is "relatively simple" if it isn't working it is likely either you have no network connection, the repository list /etc/apt.d/<<stuff>> is misconfigured or system certificates are out of date
09:21 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> I will try to add "deb [trusted=yes]"
09:21 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> https://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?t=155958
09:21 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> it should do the job
09:21 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> 23 years of windows here, quite painful šŸ˜„
09:22 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> and i will try an upgrade as I don't have a release file as mentionned in the error message
09:31 AM JT-Cave: that was a nice 8 mile ride
09:32 AM bjork1intosh: bicycling?
09:36 AM JT-Cave: yup
09:36 AM JT-Cave: didn't make it up the hill without stopping this time...
09:37 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> most important thing is that you got out and rode.
09:39 AM JT-Cave: yup too muddy to ride the mtn bike today
09:39 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> yeah, i am stuck inside watching the pouring rain...
09:41 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> get some air.. get the blood flowin', burn off a beer or 2
09:42 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> ...don't drink beer šŸ˜‰
09:46 AM bjork1intosh: fine, aaaaastea then!
10:07 AM flyback: https://www.hackster.io/news/sipeed-unveils-the-licheerv-nano-range-tiny-edge-ai-camera-boards-built-atop-the-sophgo-sg2002-e5c523d4ae9b
10:40 AM pcw--home: Leeloo: Lagging probably means you do not have enough headroom in you stepgen velocity or stepgen acceleration settings
10:41 AM pcw--home: they should be set to about 125% of the machine acceleration and velocity settings)
10:45 AM pcw--home: vibram: The LinuxCNC error is a hal file error (you have specified num_sserials=2 which should probably be num_sserials=1)
11:15 AM pcw--home: vibram: could also be a firmware error, what firmware are you using?
12:04 PM Leeloo: pcw--home, Yes, that's what I used 125%, but later today I will try setting it to 0 - it should disable the checks completely from what I understand and I will see what happens and go from there.
12:34 PM pcw--home: Leeloo also the maximum speed will be bound by the step length and step space settings (though recent LinuxCNC versions warn that this is an issue)
12:48 PM Leeloo: pcw--home, Yes, I understand that, but something is strange here: I tried lower settings 2500 and even 1000ns and it made no difference. Stepgen gets misaligned 10mm over 25mm at 10mm/s max velocity...
12:50 PM pcw--home: you might dump all the stepgen parameters to make sure there is not a mistake (say a double setting) in the hal file
12:50 PM pcw--home: halcmd show all | grep stepgen
12:51 PM Leeloo: I looked at it in halshow. It looks fine to me. I have 6400 steps per rev, 5mm ballscrew, scale 1280.
12:51 PM Leeloo: And what I saw matched hal: 2500 for all timings.
12:52 PM Leeloo: At 100mm/s seconds, which is ten times faster than for testing, this is 128kHz pulses.

01:05 PM pcw--home: Leeloo: most likely a setup error, can you run " halcmd show all | grep stepgen.01" and post the results?
01:07 PM Leeloo: Yes, give me a sec.
01:09 PM Leeloo: Here: https://imgur.com/0eXLJt7
01:11 PM Leeloo: It has 100/125 for accel, but I tried it with 10/12.5 too, same thing.
01:15 PM Leeloo: OK, tried setting maxvel and accel to zero and get no errors 100 3000mm/min... so, somehow 125% is not good enough.
01:20 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as unterhausen
01:23 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I always run the stepgen max velocity to 0 - only have headroom on the stepgen max acceleration
01:29 PM pcw--home: leeloo: The error is expected from your settings (maxvel = 12.5mm/sec but the commanded velocity is higher, about 16 mm/sec based on the plot)
01:30 PM Leeloo: I had MAX_VELOCITY in [AXIS_Y] set to 10
01:31 PM pcw--home: well your plot shows commanded velocity of about 16.6 mm/sec (25 mm in ~1.5 seconds)
01:32 PM Leeloo: I kept trying different values - I tried to keep the JOINT values and STEPGEN values in sync. I will do more testing later today because I want to make sure I understand this.
01:36 PM pcw--home: Look at the DeltaP/DeltaT on the green trace, it's > 12.5 mm/sec
01:38 PM pcw--home: I would do as skunkworks suggested (0 for stepgen maxvel, stepgen maxaccel = 1.25x joint maxaccel)
01:40 PM Leeloo: Yes, I don't remember exact settings from that graph from yesterday, it's not necessarily at 10mm/s limit. I am glad that I can move at a reasonable speed now with that 0 settings.
01:41 PM pcw--home: In the plot it looks like maxvel was 10
01:42 PM Leeloo: Yes, but that's the -cmd line and fb could not keep up, no?
01:43 PM Leeloo: Hmm, I don't know, the green line fits into 500ms x2 by 10 x 2 box... so that's 20mm/s commanded.
01:45 PM Leeloo: Can GUI override the JOIN MAX_VELOCITY setting?
01:45 PM Leeloo: JOINT*
01:48 PM Leeloo: Well, never mind, I will do this systematically again this evening - will keep everything in sync and make some spreadsheet of when the problems begin.
03:02 PM lcnc-relay: <vibram> Thank you I managed to find the issue in the Hal file:)

07:02 PM lcnc-relay: <psinerd> Hi guys--can you some one point me to some way of reading the current state of the endstops that are connected to my mesa 7i96s board? I would like to do a bench test to make sure the endstops work before hooking up my electronics to my machine.
07:02 PM lcnc-relay: <psinerd> * guys--what is some way of reading the current state of the endstops that are connected to my mesa 7i96s board? I would like to do a bench test to make sure the endstops work before hooking up my electronics to my machine.e
07:02 PM lcnc-relay: <psinerd> * machine.
07:18 PM Tom_L: psinerd, hal show will show the pin state
07:19 PM Tom_L: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/stable/html/hal/tools.html#_halshow
07:22 PM lcnc-relay: <psinerd> the burgundy/yellow circles?
07:23 PM lcnc-relay: <psinerd> +thanks!
08:36 PM roycroft: hi folks
08:37 PM XXCoder: hey
08:37 PM XXCoder: I might be going south evenually. still want delta printer and book/magazine scanner?
08:38 PM roycroft: maybe
08:38 PM roycroft: i mean, i'm interested
08:38 PM roycroft: i don't know if i have room for more stuff, and my cash is seriously stretched
08:39 PM XXCoder: printer is free its scanner thats half price at 200
08:39 PM roycroft: i just bought a new car today, because it did not make sense to dump money into the prius
08:40 PM roycroft: ask me again as it gets closer to your trip :)
08:40 PM roycroft: i have to move this week
08:40 PM roycroft: and i have to figure out where i'm at after the move
08:40 PM XXCoder: too broken to fix?
08:40 PM XXCoder: no problem
08:40 PM roycroft: well, not really worth it
08:40 PM roycroft: the hybrid system was starting to have problems
08:40 PM roycroft: immediately it needed an inverter cooler pump, which is $1500
08:40 PM XXCoder: doh
08:41 PM roycroft: but the inverter is $4k and the battery pack is $2k
08:41 PM roycroft: i just decided to stop dumping money into it
08:41 PM roycroft: the car was a 2003
08:41 PM roycroft: and had 250k miles
08:41 PM roycroft: i just bought a 2012 hyundai veloster, with 80k miles
08:41 PM roycroft: it gets almost the same fuel economy as the prius

08:42 PM roycroft: and i got a 48 month extended warranty with it
08:45 PM roycroft: the new car has a six speed manual transmission
08:45 PM XXCoder: fancy. ill never get manual
08:45 PM roycroft: i haven't had a manual transmission in a long time, and it's fun to have it again
08:45 PM roycroft: but with my broken wrist not as much fun as it should be
08:48 PM XXCoder: I bet. wrist hurt isnt forever tho
08:48 PM roycroft: right
08:48 PM roycroft: and it's getting better daily

11:36 PM Leeloo: How can I capture longer time with halscope? I see the num_samples parameter, but when I call it with that, nothing seems to change much - I still get 4000 samples for 4 channels.
11:37 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> i am tired of relying on others buying my apparently worthless crap in order to fund my dreams... i just won't dream for any future anymore... my new-shop dream is officially dead šŸ˜¦
11:41 PM Leeloo: Hmm, I see that multiplier changes sampling rate, so that kind of works, but then I don't know what that num_samples argument is for really...
