03:29 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> Morning
04:36 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> Hello
04:36 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/aVECmtFGxOppYiIeqGHGIjFt/7i73colo-500x500.png
04:36 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> Do you know the technical name of 7i73 left and right connectors please?
04:37 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> I would like to find a female connector with terminal screws
06:14 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
06:15 AM JT-Mobile: morning
06:35 AM lcnc-relay: <vibram> answer to myself, classic ribbon cable
06:36 AM JT-Mobile: I've actually managed to subclass GLCanon this morning without errors so that's huge
06:59 AM JT-Mobile: http://paste.debian.net/1317875/
06:59 AM JT-Mobile: turboss
09:14 AM lcnc-relay: <Lcvette> nice!!
09:21 AM roycroft: hi folks
09:41 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> How is the wrist?
10:58 AM firephoto__ is now known as firephoto_
11:22 AM Unterhausen: I got a haircut and the new dog isn't afraid of me anymore
11:32 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> wow - I read that as - 'I got a haircut and a new job..'
11:35 AM Unterhausen: no new job, I wouldn't work anywhere that would have me
11:36 AM Unterhausen: Penn State salvage is selling the last drafting table on campus
12:01 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/NLcYqGiDMJwQxjyLpobdLYio/PXL_20231231_221220821.MP.jpg
12:01 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> This is what our drafting table is used for..
12:21 PM lcnc-relay: <_veegee#0> LOL https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ZNvU7E6IYO0
12:23 PM lcnc-relay: <_veegee#0> Now that I know what you look like, I can confidently say you look like a travis farmer
12:26 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> ok....
12:46 PM roycroft: hi folks
12:47 PM roycroft: my cast is off, and things are healing well!
12:47 PM roycroft: i can sort of touch type now
12:47 PM roycroft: i have to wear a brace, and that gets in the way a little, but not like the cast did
12:49 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> good to hear, roycroft!
12:49 PM lcnc-relay: kicking up a Bad thunderstorm right now... lights keep flickering...
12:56 PM bjorkint0sh: Hopefully gravity learns to respect your powers, roycroft!
12:56 PM bjorkint0sh: We have modern medicine. what does it have, magnetic attraction? Puhlease.
01:12 PM Rab_: roycroft, glad to hear it!
01:21 PM roycroft: me too!
01:51 PM XXCoder: roy nice
01:59 PM CaptHindsight: visited the newer Makerspace in Milwaukee the other day, 47K sq ft (4366 sq. m)
02:00 PM CaptHindsight: https://wiki.milwaukeemakerspace.org/wiki.milwaukeemakerspace.org/start/norwich lots of older machines
02:02 PM CaptHindsight: only saw one machine that runs LCNC, a 3-axis wood mill, pretty good sized
02:04 PM Rab_: Pretty good selection of stuff, particularly for metalworking. But no straight-up milling machine?
02:04 PM CaptHindsight: a few bridgeports
02:05 PM CaptHindsight: the wiki isn't complete
02:05 PM Rab_: ahh
02:08 PM CaptHindsight: they even have two Tormachs
02:10 PM CaptHindsight: no EDM's no CNC plasma :(
02:22 PM CaptHindsight: they had a giant old transformer type Miller Mig, it looks like it was close to a ton
02:42 PM bjorkint0sh: EDMs are not terribly common.
02:42 PM bjorkint0sh: I think I've only ever seen one.
02:43 PM XXCoder: it might become more common
02:43 PM XXCoder: theres home edm projects
02:43 PM XXCoder: not too expensive too
02:44 PM bjorkint0sh: I met the guy who wrote the books on home made EDMs for lindsay publications when it was still a thing.
02:47 PM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=5CeCxkFVCdM this will evenually be sold
02:47 PM XXCoder: hold on thats older model
02:49 PM XXCoder: https://rackrobo.io/ this has all 3 versions shown
02:49 PM XXCoder: $2000 for larger one that uses water tank.
02:59 PM CaptHindsight: tomp used to build custom EDM's before he retired
03:00 PM CaptHindsight: aka tjtr33
03:03 PM roycroft: i think i have that lindsay edm book
03:03 PM roycroft: i have most of the lindsay books
03:04 PM bjorkint0sh: me too.
03:04 PM CaptHindsight: non contact and they move slowly
03:06 PM roycroft: i like that litle edm machine
03:06 PM roycroft: i recognized it as an ender printer right away
03:06 PM roycroft: so i'm sure it can be built very inexpensively
03:06 PM XXCoder: yeah. its a kit that can be added to many printer
03:06 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
03:06 PM JT-Mobile: yo
03:06 PM XXCoder: o/
03:14 PM JT-Mobile: Texarkana tonight then home tomorrow
03:16 PM roycroft: what's the useful resolution of that edm machine?
03:16 PM XXCoder: wire diameter I guess?
03:17 PM JT-Mobile: they are pretty accurate both plunge and wire
03:18 PM roycroft: so 0.3mm
03:18 PM roycroft: that's useful for a lot of things
03:18 PM JT-Mobile: that might be the cut width not accuracy
03:19 PM XXCoder: yes cut width sorry lol. I guess much depends on mvement system
03:19 PM XXCoder: how good is ender 3 on this? dunno. the large model looks like it might be more accurate but also dunno
03:21 PM XXCoder: https://youtu.be/eQAGJhUX8Os pretty cool. huge project
03:28 PM CaptHindsight: accuracy is how well you print the plastic parts
03:28 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> roycroft: I worked at Berkeley National Lab. they had wire EDMs cutting sub thousands. very very accurate and kerfs about 2 or 3 mils
03:29 PM CaptHindsight: they left out that you can usually find used EDM's for a few hundred $ and up
03:30 PM CaptHindsight: I been given some in the past or for free if i would just remove everything and clean up the space they were in
03:34 PM CaptHindsight: it's easier to build the motion platform for an EDM than any mill or router since it's non-contact
03:34 PM XXCoder: I find it funny that laser is harder than edm just because it need to be lot faster
03:35 PM XXCoder: which need good system to rapidly move
03:39 PM JT-Mobile: GAAAAAAAAA axis.py is so convoluted I can't figure out what it's doing
03:42 PM Tom_L: heh
03:44 PM lcnc-relay: <TurBoss> Hello JT, nice you did it!
03:44 PM Tom_L: funny it's the most rock solid gui
03:46 PM JT-Mobile: no, stuck
03:47 PM JT-Mobile: rock solid cornfusing
03:47 PM JT-Mobile: http://paste.debian.net/1317938/
03:48 PM JT-Mobile: result, seq = gcode.parse(gcode_file, self.glcanon)
03:48 PM JT-Mobile: ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
03:48 PM JT-Mobile: RuntimeError: parse_file interp_error
03:49 PM JT-Mobile: s2.ngc http://paste.debian.net/1317939/
03:50 PM JT-Mobile: I just need the most simple thing that works to start
03:51 PM JT-Mobile: and it's very frustrating to not be able to finger out that crazy python code
03:51 PM lcnc-relay: <TurBoss> have tried placing the python in the display var of the ini?
03:51 PM lcnc-relay: <TurBoss> oh yeah .. thats me
03:51 PM lcnc-relay: <TurBoss> lol
03:53 PM Tom_L: 1580 of axis.py help?
03:57 PM JT-Mobile: kinda jibberish to me there :(
03:57 PM Tom_L: i don't know the parameters for gcode.parse
03:59 PM Tom_L: 2036
03:59 PM Tom_L: no
04:00 PM Tom_L: it does break down g0 g1 gt whatever gt is
04:00 PM JT-Mobile: trying to get hints from axis.py and kurt's code
04:01 PM JT-Mobile: parse(...)
04:01 PM JT-Mobile: Parse a G-Code file
04:01 PM JT-Mobile: not much help from the code
04:03 PM JT-Mobile: emc/usr_intf/axis/scripts/axis.py:1589: result, seq = gcode.parse("", canon, "M199 P["+e+"]", "M2")
04:03 PM JT-Mobile: axis.py
04:04 PM Tom_L: 401 starts defining the actions
04:04 PM JT-Mobile: result, seq = gcode.parse(self.loaded_file, self.canon, unitcode, initcode)
04:04 PM JT-Mobile: pyqtvcp
04:05 PM JT-Mobile: >>> gcode.parse()
04:05 PM JT-Mobile: Traceback (most recent call last):
04:05 PM JT-Mobile: File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
04:05 PM JT-Mobile: TypeError: parse() takes at least 2 arguments (0 given)
04:06 PM JT-Mobile: so I think it takes the gcode file and canon whatever that is lol
04:13 PM Tom_L: what is glcannon.py?
04:14 PM Tom_L: looks like mostly for gremlin
04:14 PM JT-Mobile: I 'think' it's what does the drawing
04:14 PM JT-Mobile: from OpenGL.GL import *
04:14 PM JT-Mobile: from OpenGL.GLU import *
04:15 PM Tom_L: or gcode_graphics.py
04:15 PM JT-Mobile: where is that?
04:15 PM Tom_L: i'm not sure yet
04:16 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:27 PM Tom_dev: try lib/python/qtvcp/plugins/graphics_plugin.py
04:27 PM Tom_dev: i don't see it yet
04:27 PM JT-Mobile: not much in there
04:27 PM Tom_dev: nope
04:27 PM Tom_dev: bunch of defines
04:28 PM JT-Mobile: ok it's not qtvcp
04:28 PM Tom_L: nope
04:29 PM Tom_dev: not sure why it's in that folder
04:36 PM Tom_L: lib/python/qtvcp/widgets/gcode_graphics.py
04:36 PM Tom_L: for the logger
04:39 PM JT-Mobile: fixing to have our anniversary dinner
04:39 PM JT-Mobile: 37 years
04:48 PM roycroft: congratulations
04:48 PM XXCoder: congats :)
04:48 PM JT-Mobile: thanks
04:54 PM Tom_L: congrats
04:56 PM lcnc-relay: <TurBoss> hey Congrats!
06:27 PM JT-Mobile: excellent dinner server so so
06:50 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> i think for 37 years, you need to get her something carbide
06:50 PM JT-Mobile: we got married on memorial day a long time ago
06:51 PM JT-Mobile: in my sisters back yard
06:56 PM JT-Mobile: in any case it's time to retire
