12:17 AM lcnc-relay: <skiboy> I just have the motion control left to wire up
01:05 AM Deejay: moin
04:43 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:52 AM JT-Cave: morning
08:52 AM rdtsc_away is now known as rdtsc
08:55 AM roycroft: hello
08:56 AM rdtsc: 'mornin
09:05 AM * JT-Cave pushes a teaser for Tom_L
09:05 AM JT-Cave: how's the wrist?
09:29 AM * roycroft is heading up to the newhouse shortly
09:30 AM roycroft: my wrist is improving
09:30 AM roycroft: still a little pain, but not too bad
09:31 AM roycroft: nd i can grasp light thins with my fingers now
09:31 AM JT-Cave: sounds better than the other day for sure
09:33 AM roycroft: yes, indeed
09:34 AM roycroft: full recovery should take about 12 weeks
09:39 AM roycroft: today i should finish painting, then i need to install floor tile in the room i'm working on, and then schedule my move
09:40 AM Tom_L: are you a good left handed painter?
09:43 AM rdtsc is now known as rdtsc_away
09:44 AM roycroft: yes, but it's my left wrist that's broken, and i'm a better right-handed painter
09:45 AM Tom_L: ahh that's right... i forgot which arm it was
09:46 AM roycroft: it will go much more slowly than usual, but i'll get it done
09:46 AM roycroft: i'm more concerned about installing the floor tiles
09:46 AM Tom_L: do like the cheap crews and whip out the spray gun
09:46 AM Tom_L: :)
09:47 AM roycroft: this will be the fourth coat
09:48 AM roycroft: i spot primed with killz original to block some stains, then applied a coat of pva primer, then a first top coat
09:49 AM roycroft: i hoped that would be enough, but the topcoat is semi-gloss, and did not cover as well as i'd hope
09:49 AM roycroft: d
09:50 AM roycroft: 30 today
09:51 AM roycroft: i guess the first thing i'll do at the house is flip the thermostat from heat mode to ac mode
09:51 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, you're not reading the ini [SPINDLE_0] INCREMENT for the + - buttons? just the spin box?
09:52 AM JT-Cave: wife is on her 6th week of recovery
09:52 AM JT-Cave: yes if not there then I use a reasonable default
09:52 AM Tom_L: the + - don't honor the ini setting
09:53 AM JT-Cave: https://github.com/jethornton/flexgui/blob/0.5.0/flexgui/src/libflexgui/commands.py#L254
09:53 AM JT-Cave: ah yep that's still hard coded...
09:55 AM Tom_L: at least it doens't jump like it did
09:55 AM roycroft: yay
09:55 AM Tom_L: reverse doesn't honor the set speed either
09:55 AM Tom_L: 100 fwd, 0 rev
09:55 AM roycroft: the plastic arm bags will arrive today
09:56 AM roycroft: i can take a shower tonight!
09:56 AM * roycroft has had to avoid people recently
09:59 AM Tom_L: tool teeth label :)
09:59 AM JT-Cave: lol
10:00 AM Tom_L: was i supposed to look for something else?
10:00 AM JT-Cave: hmm spindle rev actual is not working
10:01 AM JT-Cave: well there is the tool speed in the docs...
10:01 AM JT-Cave: computed from the xy velocity :)
10:01 AM JT-Cave: :}
10:01 AM JT-Cave: I did a test but have not pushed the code for that yet
10:01 AM Tom_L: been gone all morning.. catching up
10:02 AM * JT-Cave thinks he will go to Wolf Creek for a while and burn a bit of fat
10:02 AM JT-Cave: https://gnipsel.com/linuxcnc/flexgui/labels.html#special-labels
10:02 AM JT-Cave: Tool velocity using two perpendicular joint velocities.
10:04 AM Tom_L: what about a 3d surface?
10:04 AM JT-Cave: one thing at a time LOL
10:04 AM Tom_L: that motion one may take care of all that, i dunno
10:05 AM JT-Cave: what motion one?
10:06 AM JT-Cave: https://www.calculatorsoup.com/calculators/geometry-solids/distance-two-points.php
10:07 AM * JT-Cave loads up the mountain bike
10:07 AM Tom_L: you'd have to finish the hal_pin inputs for it
10:07 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> JT-Cave: going for a spin??
10:08 AM Tom_L: err maybe i was thinking of ipm instead on motion
10:08 AM Tom_L: upm might, mition.feed-upm
10:08 AM Tom_L: upm might, motion.feed-upm
10:08 AM Tom_L: new to 2.9
10:10 AM JT-Shop__: upm>?
10:10 AM Tom_L: units per min
10:10 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
10:10 AM Tom_L: they also do ipm and mm/m
10:10 AM Tom_L: new to 2.9
10:10 AM Tom_L: but that takes a hal_pin input
10:11 AM Tom_L: bak after while
10:15 AM JT-Shop: those are only the F word with override
10:31 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/IwgHjvYMPEUvAhZtDEGshVXR/Screenshot_2024-05-11_at_08-06-43_History_Home_Assistant.png
10:31 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> had an aurora last night... just happened to check my power logs for my shop... check out the spikes at midnight during the aurora (above May 11)
10:51 AM rdtsc_away is now known as rdtsc
11:06 AM rdtsc: Anyone try the Gecko G251x? https://www.geckodrive.com/product/g251x-digital-step-drive/ Not seeing much about it. Claims to do 10x microstepping at slow speeds, then morphs to single-stepping at fast speeds. Inherited KL4030's and motors will walk themselves clear across the bench.
11:09 AM rdtsc: Perhaps a good question for pcw-home too, using 7c80 - any anomalies there?
11:27 AM solarwind: How are closed end ratchets assembled?
11:27 AM solarwind: Is the moving part held by an internal snap ring?
11:28 AM solarwind: If so, it'll be impossible to get it out
11:28 AM solarwind: https://www.harborfreight.com/media/catalog/product/cache/9fc4a8332f9638515cd199dd0f9238da/6/8/68958_W3.jpg that's what I'm referring to
11:28 AM solarwind: I don't know whether or not it's a good idea to press the rotating part out
11:29 AM rdtsc is now known as rdtsc_away
11:29 AM CaptHindsight: those are supposed to be so cheap that you just replace them if the warranty is over
11:29 AM solarwind: Yeah that's what I figured
11:32 AM rdtsc_away is now known as rdtsc
11:32 AM Tom_L: rdtsc_away, most of the geckos do 10x stepping with the morph
11:33 AM Tom_L: solarwind, take one apart and find out
11:33 AM solarwind: so bearing press it is
11:33 AM Tom_L: probably a washer is pressed in after the guts. one of those one way washers shaped like a cone
11:51 AM JT-Shop: rdtsc, I use the big brother to the g251x for years on my plasma
11:52 AM JT-Shop: nap
11:53 AM rdtsc is now known as rdtsc_away
11:53 AM Tom_L: weed eater fixed, fertilizer down, salad for lunch. nap
12:06 PM * JT-Cave did 6 miles of torture for lunch
01:04 PM solarwind: Tom_L CaptHindsight any thoughts on this? https://www.lm76.com/speed_rail_osg.htm
01:05 PM solarwind: I see it on a lot of cheap 3D printers. More like tier 2 printers, just one step above cheap
01:05 PM solarwind: Interestingly enough, they're hard to find on amazon/aliexpress
01:06 PM solarwind: I like the design simplicity though. Just two smooth rods and metal concave rollers
01:06 PM solarwind: I have a few on a couple of 3D printers. They are indeed much quieter than any recirculating bearing type systems
01:15 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> JT-Cave: good ride???
01:16 PM JT-Shop: yup
01:17 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> just finished my easy 18miles
01:17 PM rdtsc_away is now known as rdtsc
01:17 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> before it heats up
01:18 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> wish my Mtn bike was still ridable... needs a lot to be brought back...
01:25 PM solarwind: it's a bicycle, how much work could it possibly need?
01:27 PM JT-Shop: tally ho is floating
01:29 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> solarwind, it needs a new rear wheel, chain, brakes, tires.
01:29 PM JT-Shop: just a rim or a whole wheel?
01:30 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> whole wheel. bearings and spokes are shot. 7spd threaded hub
01:32 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> travis_farmer: an inexpensive way to fix, go to local bike shop and see if they have used stuff to sell.....sometimes people change parts out just to get new stuff.... old parts still being good.
01:32 PM JT-Shop: yup
01:33 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> and cash is king....
01:33 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> yeah, i know... i literally have like $4.10
01:37 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> if i won the lottery, i would get a new bike, rather than my old bike. get some new features, like disk brakes... but it needs to be a stout bike, as i weigh 300#
01:48 PM acer is now known as _unreal_
01:50 PM _unreal_: Starting to get HOT here in FL
01:51 PM rdtsc is now known as rdtsc_away
01:51 PM _unreal_: oh and FYI sh!t just keeps getting worse regarding my fathers death.
01:51 PM _unreal_: and the mess he created. hence I have not been very active.
01:53 PM rdtsc_away is now known as rdtsc
01:54 PM XXCoder: wire edm machine interesting https://youtu.be/lVW18j41Ew4
01:55 PM _unreal_: yes they are
01:56 PM _unreal_: XXCoder, the reality show I'm on is working on having there GRAND "OPENING" some time soon even though they have been putting out episodes for some time.
01:56 PM _unreal_: Yacht Kings YT
01:56 PM XXCoder: yeah havent watched tv for years now
01:56 PM _unreal_: YT not tv
01:57 PM _unreal_: and SAME
01:57 PM XXCoder: ah well my video link is unrelated to yachts
01:57 PM _unreal_: eheh :)
02:39 PM Scopeuk: The wire edm stuff is currently a hot subject, a group have built a low cost setup you can bolt to a generic motion system and are planning to sell and open source the power supply and wire control parts of it
02:40 PM XXCoder: its by same people I thinjk
02:40 PM XXCoder: they do sell the earlier kit that you use on printer
02:42 PM XXCoder: I wonder what people do with used edm wire
02:43 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> i wonder what people do with a used 32ch analog audio mixer that still works...
02:55 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> sell it
02:58 PM * JT-Shop waits for Tom_L to break something
02:58 PM * XXCoder takes out the hammer
02:58 PM XXCoder: get to breaking, or ill break something
03:02 PM rdtsc is now known as rdtsc_away
03:09 PM * JT-Shop watched 10 seconds of yacht kings and that's all I could stand LOL
03:13 PM * Tom_L finished planting flowers
03:14 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, did you fix the spindle reverse?
03:14 PM JT-Shop: not yet, mowed the jungle
03:23 PM * Tom_L wonders where he should attack next
03:25 PM Tom_L: still something funky going on with the spindle spinbox & + - buttons
03:25 PM Tom_L: not as pronounced but still odd
03:26 PM Tom_L: i'd consider making the buttons an either or with the spin box
03:26 PM Tom_L: either use the spin box or the buttons but not both
03:27 PM Tom_L: one updates the other in a wrong way
03:27 PM Tom_L: unless you can figure out how to make them get along like good kids
03:30 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> "i wonder what people do with used edm wire"
03:30 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> xxcodery scrap money
03:31 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> its too stiff to do other stuff with
03:31 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> fuckign discord wont let me @ irc names i dont think
03:32 PM XXCoder: yeah just type nick in full or just part ill be able to see it anyway lol
03:32 PM XXCoder: anyway I wonder if it can be melted down and cast lol
03:34 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> youd have to check the grade, some have otrher additrives in it
03:34 PM XXCoder: yeah
03:41 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Got the new holland front mower running.. (needed a battery)
03:41 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> wonder how much a pto shaft costs for this thing..
03:42 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> (it runs the deck and is very wore...)
03:49 PM JT-Shop: Tom_L, something funky is hard to fix...
03:49 PM * JT-Shop goes to move the deer feeder
03:49 PM CaptHindsight: solarwind: cam bearings, Pacific Bearing still sells a ton
03:50 PM XXCoder: artisan make is nice
03:50 PM CaptHindsight: https://pbclinear.com/
03:50 PM XXCoder: nice video today*
04:00 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, i'll take a new series of screen shots
04:03 PM JT-Shop: I did notice one of the buttons doubled the speed but I fixed that this morning
04:03 PM Tom_L: it's still acting similar to that but different :)
04:03 PM JT-Shop: maybe just say what it does...
04:04 PM Tom_L: i'm working thru it step at a time
04:04 PM JT-Shop: ok
04:06 PM Tom_L: maybe this update fixed it and i didn't get it installed here...
04:06 PM Tom_L: still trying to break it
04:06 PM Tom_L: rev is still broke though
04:06 PM JT-Shop: ok keep trying
04:07 PM Tom_L: the spin box updates with the + - and it wasn't doing that before so maybe you killed that one
04:07 PM rdtsc_away is now known as rdtsc
04:07 PM Tom_L: yeah i think it may be ok now
04:11 PM Tom_L: did you update one for the spindle using the lcd widget?
04:12 PM Tom_L: update the webpage: INCREMENT will set the QSpinBox single step.
04:12 PM Tom_L: to include the buttons now
04:19 PM JT-Shop: rev works for me, describe "broke"
04:19 PM Tom_L: lemme make sure everything is up to date here first
04:21 PM Tom_L: i was 2 behind.. it's working here now
04:22 PM Tom_L: doesn't show -xxx like it did
04:22 PM Tom_L: with reverse
04:22 PM JT-Shop: no, I just fixed that an hour ago and spindle direction label shows fwd and rev now
04:23 PM Tom_L: maybe i should enable checked on fwd rev and stop on the spindle
04:23 PM Tom_L: i haven't added direction label yet
04:23 PM JT-Shop: no need to enable checked on any button
04:23 PM Tom_L: should they show 'depressed' if they're on?
04:24 PM JT-Shop: I'll have to add them to the checked buttons so they show up correctly
04:24 PM Tom_L: yeah at least fwd & rev
04:24 PM Tom_L: maybe not so much stop
04:39 PM Tom_L: spindle_direction_n_lb should default to fwd
04:40 PM Tom_L: when you push 'stop' it switches to rev
04:40 PM Tom_L: or add an 'off' state
04:40 PM Tom_L: if you can
04:45 PM JT-Shop: stop switches what to rev?
04:45 PM Tom_L: spindle_direction_0_lb
04:45 PM JT-Shop: hmm ok yup I know what that is
04:46 PM JT-Shop: yup an off state for dir would be good
04:47 PM JT-Shop: and that's why what you do is so important!
04:48 PM Tom_L: can that be tri stated? ... fwd rev off?
04:48 PM Tom_L: maybe not
04:49 PM JT-Shop: https://github.com/jethornton/flexgui/blob/master/flexgui/src/libflexgui/status.py#L310
04:50 PM Tom_L: elif direction > 0 rev else direction = 'Off'
04:50 PM Tom_L: elif direction < 0 rev else direction = 'Off'
04:51 PM JT-Shop: prob dir == 0
04:51 PM Tom_L: wrong < > the first time
04:51 PM JT-Shop: > 0 is fwd
04:51 PM JT-Shop: < 0 is reverse
04:51 PM Tom_L: yeah i had the wrong sign
04:51 PM JT-Shop: 0 is off I 'think'
04:51 PM Tom_L: but that couldn't come from the commanded speed
04:51 PM Tom_L: it would have to come from actual
04:52 PM JT-Shop: that comes from spindle[0]['direction']
04:52 PM Tom_L: what happens when the 'stop' button is pushed?
04:52 PM JT-Shop: I'll have to test
04:52 PM Tom_L: pull the logic from that
04:57 PM JT-Shop: in any case fwd, rev, off makes the most sense
04:58 PM JT-Shop: I think I'll drop the spindle number from everything and only support spindle 0
04:58 PM JT-Shop: having more than one spindle is pretty rare
05:05 PM Tom_L: not a bad idea
05:05 PM Tom_L: unless it's a lathe
05:05 PM Tom_L: even then it's rare
05:05 PM JT-Shop: even a lathe usually has one spindle
05:06 PM JT-Shop: it will simplify the coding
05:06 PM * Tom_L prepares to change all his spindle labeling :)
05:07 PM JT-Shop: lol
05:13 PM rdtsc is now known as rdtsc_away
05:14 PM Tom_L: ok, i'll give you that one but i need hal_pin input next week!
05:14 PM rdtsc_away is now known as rdtsc
05:17 PM JT-Shop: how much does that pay?
05:27 PM Tom_L: same as the rest of it
05:27 PM JT-Shop: that's what I figured LOL
05:29 PM Tom_L: you can put in for a raise but it'll likely get rejected
05:29 PM Tom_L: my kid was scheduled to go to 2nd starting monday. some guy walked out and now they say he's gotta stay on 1st
05:30 PM Tom_L: for now anyway
05:30 PM JT-Shop: hmm
05:30 PM JT-Shop: did he ever say why 2nd shift?
05:30 PM Tom_L: i told him to make them keep the funds they negotiated
05:30 PM Tom_L: no, i didn't ask
06:12 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
06:14 PM rdtsc is now known as rdtsc_away
06:41 PM XXCoder: https://ceeshop.com.au/products/limted-banana-calipers
06:41 PM XXCoder: wow high end
06:42 PM XXCoder: check out its stats
06:52 PM rdtsc_away is now known as rdtsc
06:56 PM rdtsc: That's banannas!
07:32 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> usually 2nd had a decent shift differential..
07:32 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> and or 3rd shift
07:32 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> *has
07:33 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Well - I found out the dump box isn't grounded..
07:33 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> suprisingly..
07:33 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> couldn't figure out why the corner lights wouldn't come on..
07:35 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> spent about an hour or more in the new holland.. It is pretty stable - all wheel drive and pretty low center of gravity.. Haven't tipped it over yet.
07:36 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/uxhPHEDCiGUaTggouxnsfTyg/PXL_20240512_001559498.jpg
07:36 PM rdtsc is now known as rdtsc_away
07:36 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I do need to invest in some hearing protection that are headphones..
07:36 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> that thing is loud
07:37 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Needs a pto.. It is so warn.. (both what is in the transmission and the pto shaft running to the deck)
07:37 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> worn
07:39 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> little 3 cylinder diesel.. sized almost perfectly.. If you hit some heavy grass/straw/small trees - it blows black smoke..
07:39 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> (leaves a carbon trail)
07:48 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Should probably change the oil
08:05 PM XXCoder: yay my chainsaw just arrived
08:05 PM XXCoder: im now safe from 5 inch tall zombies, it being 4 inch chainsaw
08:05 PM XXCoder: anyway it seems not bad. plan to evenually use it to trim tree
08:11 PM XXCoder: its small enough that I can design that chainsaw cat and have working chainsaw in head lol
08:11 PM roycroft: i just bought some packing boxes
08:11 PM roycroft: my move is getting real
08:12 PM XXCoder: oops chainsaw dog not cat
08:12 PM XXCoder: https://chainsaw-man.fandom.com/wiki/Pochita aI dont watch that show but saw picture of one lol
08:12 PM roycroft: my main chainsaw currently has a 27" bar on it and is attatched to an alaska chainsaw mill
08:13 PM XXCoder: yeah I cant handle that safely
08:13 PM roycroft: i hope i can dismantle that one-handed
08:13 PM XXCoder: not with dizzyness and vision not tracking
08:15 PM XXCoder: you probably can with more care and steps
08:17 PM roycroft: i was able to hold my hair and puy on a ponytail holdertoday for the first time since the injury
08:17 PM roycroft: so i'm slowly regaining function
08:18 PM XXCoder: nice
08:18 PM roycroft: having my elbow back is *huge*
08:19 PM XXCoder: so it finally come back from parties eh? ;) joking aside, I bet it was
08:19 PM roycroft: when i was in the splint my elbow was immobilized
08:19 PM roycroft: now i can move it freely
08:19 PM roycroft: nudge nudge
08:19 PM roycroft: say no more
08:21 PM XXCoder: hah. I hope I can trim the tree well
08:22 PM XXCoder: its getting too low to ground and hard to mow in area
08:25 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> small pole mounted saw (electric) really does a lot of work...
08:25 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> and less likely to embed in your forhead..
08:31 PM XXCoder: sure though I dont need to cut anything that high, and more far off it is, less likely I will be able to track it
08:42 PM Tom_L: there will always be one that is out of reach..
08:42 PM XXCoder: not in my plans
08:42 PM XXCoder: i plan to just cut the too low ones
08:43 PM XXCoder: im not worried about stuff higher than my head
08:44 PM roycroft: electric chain saws are far more dangerous than gasoline-powered ones
08:44 PM XXCoder: in what way?
08:44 PM roycroft: but in this casethe pole compensates for that
08:45 PM XXCoder: yeah i arent going up on ladder anytime soon. I have to carefully use stairs
08:45 PM roycroft: electric chain saws are lower torque than gasoline ones
08:46 PM roycroft: for that reason they move the chain much faster
08:47 PM XXCoder: interesting. yeah I plan to be careful, even if it was gas version
08:47 PM roycroft: an electric chain saw will cut right through your safety chaps that ewill stop a gasoline saw
08:50 PM roycroft: this is mostly symbolic, but i just packed a box full of dvds
08:50 PM roycroft: the move is officially on!
08:51 PM roycroft: now i need to find helpers, as i cannot lift that box
08:51 PM XXCoder: yeah im not going to be able to help you lol
08:52 PM roycroft: i'll find some folks
08:53 PM XXCoder: awesome :)
08:54 PM roycroft: but for now it will be a lot of extra work - i'll need to sset a box in its staging location and bring thefiller items to it vs. setting the box next to the stuff, gilling it, then moving it
09:28 PM firephoto__ is now known as firephoto_
09:45 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Remember if you find the mega squirt...
