01:16 AM Deejay: moin
01:38 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> Morning 🙂
01:43 AM lcnc-relay: <turboss> Good morning
01:44 AM XXCoder: good pre-morning
01:44 AM lcnc-relay: <TurBoss (@TurBoss:jauriarts.org)> 🙂
01:46 AM CaptHindsight: happy lunch break to me!
01:46 AM XXCoder: wow. hope lunch is nice
01:47 AM CaptHindsight: spring arrived here and I have a duck family on my roof
01:50 AM CaptHindsight: it's out of reach of most predators yet there is no food source up there
02:11 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> ... just listening to some tunes... woke up too early
02:12 AM XXCoder: its now morning (12 am)
02:12 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> 🤣
02:17 AM XXCoder: I usually sleep at 1 am nowdays
02:17 AM XXCoder: used to be 3-4 am
02:18 AM XXCoder: because finished work at 1:45 and I didnt want to be too tired at end lol
02:19 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> i sleep at 7pm... lol
04:19 AM Tom_L: morning
04:22 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, @ 07:37 PM: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~tom-itx/irc/logs/%23linuxcnc/2024-04-13.html
04:56 AM JT-Cave: morning
07:40 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, this is the pause, step, run error: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/flexgui/flex_pause_step_error.mp4
07:40 AM Tom_L: easier to show this way
07:40 AM Tom_L: still can't quite find the sequence
07:41 AM Tom_L: but it prevents run program from working
07:42 AM JT-Cave: can't tell what I'm looking at
07:42 AM Tom_L: i'll widen the shot
07:42 AM JT-Cave: it just clicks on run program a few times is all I can see
07:43 AM Tom_L: yes, it doesn't keep running though
07:43 AM Tom_L: the other buttons are activated for a sec then back to what you see
07:44 AM Tom_L: i don't click pause
07:48 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/flexgui/flex_pause_step_error2.mp4
07:49 AM Tom_L: it's hard to pinpoint the cause because it doesn't always do it
07:50 AM Tom_L: it has something to do with step
07:50 AM Tom_L: i think
07:50 AM Tom_L: the vid is the 2nd run result after it errors
07:50 AM Tom_L: i get no errors
07:51 AM Tom_L: just what you see
07:51 AM Tom_L: run from line seemed better
07:55 AM Tom_L: also i shortened my 'torture_test.ngc to one loop and posted that up there
07:59 AM Tom_L: ok this triggers it: run program, pause, step, stop
08:00 AM Tom_L: then run program does what you see
08:00 AM Tom_L: i tested 2x pausing in different places
08:05 AM Tom_L: ^^ that sequence doesn't cause it _every_ time though
08:12 AM Tom_L: ok, another thing i notice while testing this, home x, home y home z aren't always active when home all is.
08:12 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/flexgui/flex_home_error.png
08:13 AM Tom_L: not sure what sequence causes that. just noticed it
08:15 AM JT-Cave: add the home_lb_0 - 2 next to the axis letters
08:15 AM JT-Cave: when you press run it doesn't run your program?
08:18 AM Tom_L: by the home x etc buttons?
08:19 AM Tom_L: don't quite follow
08:20 AM jpa-: i have always been a bit confused why anyone would need to unhome axes
08:20 AM Tom_L: i notice when i open the ui with designer, home all is 'hilited' and the home x y z buttons are not
08:20 AM Tom_L: i didn't unhome them
08:21 AM Tom_L: i put the current ui file up there
08:21 AM JT-Cave: https://pasteboard.co/SRT6f1ykgCiV.png
08:21 AM JT-Cave: see the asterisks next to the axis letters?
08:22 AM Tom_L: oh
08:22 AM JT-Cave: that's the homed/not homed indicators
08:22 AM Tom_L: yeah
08:23 AM JT-Cave: also note that I have all the motion status labels so I can watch them
08:23 AM Tom_L: mine are on the status page
08:23 AM Tom_L: i had them on the main page for a while
08:24 AM JT-Cave: I don't see anything highlighted in your ui file
08:25 AM Tom_L: manual tab, home x y z buttons
08:26 AM Tom_L: just a sec...
08:27 AM Tom_L: i'm using the jet_tom.ui file
08:29 AM Tom_L: ok i added the indicators
08:30 AM Tom_L: if you look at those buttons in designer they are greyed out and home all isn't
08:30 AM Tom_L: if that matters
08:30 AM Tom_L: not sure how to change that
08:31 AM JT-Cave: that's because you don't have them enabled
08:31 AM JT-Cave: very first item in the property qwidget box
08:32 AM Tom_L: done
08:33 AM Tom_L: they normally worked but the testing for program run etc did something to cause what you see in the pic
08:33 AM Tom_L: dunno...
08:33 AM Tom_L: updated the ui copy on the server
08:37 AM Tom_L: an instance you may want to unhome - home would be if you bumped a fixture and wanted to rehome
08:37 AM Tom_L: but you may have bigger problems by then
08:38 AM Tom_L: steppers may have lost steps
08:39 AM Tom_L: ok i should go catch up from a week of being gone
08:40 AM JT-Cave: put a comment with the required offsets in torture test short when you get time
08:40 AM Tom_L: x3.5 y3.5 z-2.5
08:40 AM Tom_L: ok
08:40 AM Tom_L: i just shut that pc down
08:45 AM Tom_L: asked the post to hold the mail and they didn't
08:45 AM Tom_L: bastards
08:55 AM Tom_L: both ngc updated
08:58 AM JT-Cave: mailbox full?
08:58 AM Tom_L: looked like about a days worth so maybe the memo didn't get passed along soon enough
08:58 AM Tom_L: about 4 checks though
09:01 AM Tom_L: must have been real windy... lots of small branches to pickup. doesn't look like any rain though
09:01 AM Tom_L: the wind must follow me. the whole trip was windy too
09:05 AM Tom_L: the trucks did better than i expected though.. ~24-29mpg
09:06 AM Tom_L: less going into the headwind on the way down
09:11 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> hmmm... coffee doesn't seem to be waking me up... just the opposite i think...
10:32 AM bjorkintosh: for the ultimate alertness, a coffee nap works wonders.
10:32 AM bjorkintosh: a 30second to 1 minute cold rinse after a shower works well too.
12:07 PM Tom_L: ok, yard done, sticks picked up & burned, pump primed, sprinklers on. nap time for sure
12:17 PM * JT-Shop goes for a ride at Wolf Creek
01:29 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> interesting... installed a Emporia Vue2 into my workshop power panel... at idle, the shop is drawing about 25W from the basic network equipment and alarm system... i bet that jumps when my machine is on and running... 🙂
01:31 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/FaTXCrUWfFZOIiUHfqlTtIUc/Screenshot_2024-04-14_at_14-29-40_Overview_Home_Assistant.png
01:31 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> phase voltages are different too...
02:25 PM roycroft: i found the source of the buzzing noise in the room i'm working on
02:25 PM roycroft: when i get back to eugene i'll post a pic
02:26 PM JT-Shop: was it alive?
02:26 PM roycroft: but basically, there was a wire nut that was melted, and charred black
02:26 PM XXCoder: I bet it would bee a sight
02:26 PM XXCoder: ah lol
02:26 PM roycroft: oh, and i got an answer to my question about breakers
02:26 PM JT-Shop: 00h that's not good
02:26 PM XXCoder: yeah bad
02:27 PM roycroft: the answer is: while they will physically fit and will likely function fine indefintely, mixing brands inside a load center will likely not pass inspection
02:27 PM JT-Shop: depends on the inspector then
02:27 PM roycroft: some of the higher-end circuit breakers are tested with all the major manufaturers' load centers, most breakers are only tested with their own brand's
02:27 PM roycroft: yes
02:27 PM roycroft: and more leeway is given when the load center manufacturer is defunct, as in my case
02:28 PM roycroft: i have a gould panel, and most of the breakers are gould, but that company is long out of business
02:28 PM roycroft: so some of the breakers are murray/eaton/siemens
02:28 PM roycroft: but for my sub panel, i got an eaton panel, and i'll use eaton breakers in it
02:29 PM roycroft: i'm really glad i killed the power to that room as soon as i heard the buzzing, btw
02:29 PM roycroft: it's not a good situation
02:29 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> never is with burnt nuts 😉
02:30 PM * roycroft wonders if he can upload a pic from here
02:30 PM * Tom_L hopes roycroft didn't buy a fire trap
02:31 PM * JT-Shop goes to see if the down tree is firewood or just in the way
02:31 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> same here, Tom_L
02:32 PM Tom_L: the birds sure appreciated the sprinklers
02:32 PM Tom_L: word got out quick
02:34 PM Tom_L: mrs robin is pissed at me though. she decided to build a home on the end of the extension ladder i store under the patio and i was working out there today
02:35 PM roycroft: https://roycroft.us/BuzzBuzz.jpeg
02:35 PM roycroft: sorry, i did not take a picture in situ
02:35 PM roycroft: i cut that stuff out as fast as i could
02:35 PM Tom_L: you're lucky you found that
02:35 PM roycroft: indeed
02:35 PM Tom_L: better go on a hunt now
02:35 PM roycroft: i'm going to inspect every receptacle and switch in the house
02:36 PM roycroft: i was planning on replacing them all anyway
02:36 PM roycroft: so i'll inspect as i replace
02:38 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> hope there are no burried junctions that look like that...
02:38 PM Tom_L: somebody was in a hurry when they didn't tighten that one up
02:38 PM JT-Shop: I only use 3M performance plus wire connectors, they are the best
02:39 PM bjorkintosh: https://www.canadianmetalworking.com/canadianmetalworking/news/management/new-book-provides-a-practical-introduction-to-steel
02:39 PM roycroft: i need to add some power to this room anyway
02:39 PM JT-Shop: https://www.amazon.com/3M-Performance-Connector-Pouch-Orange/dp/B009SJQG16?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&th=1
02:39 PM Tom_L: 3m is usually top notch on just about everything
02:39 PM bjorkintosh: I use lever wire connectors.
02:39 PM bjorkintosh: Ideal or Wago.
02:39 PM roycroft: i'm pulling 4 extra 20a circuits to it (it's my indoor workshop - laser and 3d printer and stuff will be there, as well as my server rack)
02:40 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> wago are BAD
02:40 PM bjorkintosh: why?
02:40 PM roycroft: so i'm cutting out the sheetrock 2' above the floor, so i can pull wires through the walls
02:40 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> fire hazard, seen them
02:40 PM roycroft: i'll find anything hidden when i get it all opened up
02:40 PM JT-Shop: https://www.amazon.com/3M-Performance-Connector-Pouch-Orange/dp/B009SJQG16
02:40 PM bjorkintosh: I'll investigate and see.
02:41 PM roycroft: the real problem is the crappy receptacles with the push-in connectors on the back
02:41 PM JT-Shop: tree sounds solid so I'll cut it up for firewood but not this afternoon it's too hot
02:41 PM roycroft: i have a big box of commerical grade receptacles arriving tomorrow or tuesday
02:41 PM JT-Shop: I only use back wire receptacles
02:42 PM Tom_L: 83F here today
02:42 PM Tom_L: so far
02:42 PM Tom_L: woops 88.. just updated
02:42 PM roycroft: back wire with screw terminals?
02:42 PM roycroft: the cheap push-in ones fail over time
02:43 PM Tom_L: it should be tacked down ~6" from the box anyway
02:43 PM roycroft: yes, but they still loosen up over time and start buzzing
02:44 PM roycroft: anyway, i'm doing something cool that i've not done before with my track saw
02:44 PM roycroft: in the years that i've had it i've only used it to break down sheet goods
02:44 PM JT-Cave: roycroft, yes back wire with screws
02:44 PM roycroft: today i'm attaching it to the wall and using it to cut through the sheet rock nice and neat
02:45 PM roycroft: those are fine, jt-cave
02:45 PM roycroft: it's the ones with the flimsy clips that seem like they are 28ga that are flaky
02:45 PM roycroft: and what i have
02:46 PM roycroft: don't go cheap on electricity, especially on things that are hidden
02:48 PM * roycroft gets back to work
02:48 PM Tom_L: using any GFCI breakers?
02:52 PM roycroft: anywhere wet
02:52 PM roycroft: kitchen, bathrooms, laundry room
03:06 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> there are codes as to where the GFCI 's should be installed. and wet rated outlets too
03:06 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> I took 2 sememsters of electric code classes at my local junior college.
03:09 PM bjorkintosh: that's smart. I learned from the school of Zaps.
03:10 PM bjorkintosh: and youtube.
03:33 PM roycroft: code changes every year
03:33 PM roycroft: there are some recent code changes regarding the spacing of receptacles in kitchens
03:34 PM roycroft: and now code requires everything in a kitchen to be gfci protected
03:34 PM roycroft: this year, we got two big changes - 10a lighting (only) circuits are now approved, with 16ga wire
03:35 PM roycroft: and the standard height of receptacles has been raised to 15" to bottom of box, minimum, and 16" ideally
03:35 PM JT-Shop: wow that actually makes sense since lighting is usually only a few watts
03:35 PM roycroft: oh, and also, light switches should be lowered from 48" high on center to 42" high on center
03:35 PM roycroft: that's for ada compliance
03:35 PM roycroft: yeah, with led lights that will save a lot of money
03:36 PM roycroft: unfortunately there are no 10a breakers yet, but i'm sure they will come soon
03:36 PM JT-Shop: can you get 16 awg romex?
03:36 PM roycroft: not yet
03:36 PM roycroft: but again, i'm sure that will come soon
03:36 PM Tom_L: lights here used to be 14ga
03:37 PM roycroft: with the cost of copper that's going to be a huge savings, and there will be a lot of demand for it
03:37 PM Tom_L: not sure what it is now
03:37 PM roycroft: yes, it just changed this year, tom_l
03:37 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> laws are always in place before industry follows
03:37 PM roycroft: 15a/14ga was the minimum service until the 2024 nec
03:37 PM JT-Shop: I still have a lot of 14 ga romex
03:37 PM * roycroft is installing the sub panel now
03:38 PM Tom_L: demand means it will cost more than the 14 ga :)
03:38 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> of course
03:39 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> old-timer electricians will likely still use 14ga and put in a 15A breaker...
03:41 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> my shop is currently run off a 10/3 (w/gnd), and i hope to step up to 6/3 (w/gnd) to the subpanel 🙂
03:42 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> in the new shop
03:43 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> that way my lights won't dim when the air-compressor starts 🙂
03:43 PM bjorkintosh: is it bad ground that causes the dimming?
03:44 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> no, it is too much juce on same phase
03:45 PM bjorkintosh: ah
03:45 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> *juice
03:45 PM roycroft: it's been so long i'd forgotten what a pain in the butt it is to work on site vs in the shop
03:46 PM roycroft: old timer electricians who watch their pocketbook will put in 10a/16ga lighting circuits as soon as the wire and breakers are less expensive than 15a/14ga
03:47 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> true
03:48 PM roycroft: if you want to get the bid you have to compete
03:48 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> i watch my pocketbook... thats why my old shop only has 10/3 service 😉
03:50 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> though i could mitigate the light dimming by swapping the phase the compressor is on...
03:54 PM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer> but the 6/3 upgrade will negate the need for that. it will give me 50A (60A allowed, but i will breaker for 50A)
04:59 PM JT-Shop: taxes done and ready to mail
05:12 PM Tom_L: full of steak, now to relax for the evening
05:12 PM JT-Shop: nice
05:13 PM JT-Shop: I still have a package to pack up
05:14 PM Tom_L: talking about dimming, i was chatting with some dude from some 3rd world country a long time ago that had the whole house on one circuit and the pc kept rebooting because it was pulling it down to 90v
05:15 PM XXCoder: geez
05:15 PM JT-Shop: kind of an odd video for leo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsTh2M1zIcY
05:15 PM XXCoder: 90v dng lol
05:15 PM Tom_L: i forget now where he was from
05:15 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, do boats with twin screws reverse one?
05:16 PM Tom_L: we were discussing that on the ship
05:34 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, I'v backed up from the ledge a bit and decided I dont need 1m/s on the y axis, the target was for the machine to do a max distance jog in about 4 or 5 seconds, and the Y axis is only 48"
05:34 PM JT-Shop: I don't know of any ships with counter rotating props but the P38 had them and the Mosquito didn't
05:34 PM rue_mohr: which is good, cause it brings down the max rpm on the motor
05:35 PM rue_mohr: so I have to make the gear ratio work for my resolution, but I shouldn't need the 100:1 that X has
05:36 PM Tom_L: machines of that size _will_ be slower to home etc
05:36 PM roycroft: i am getting too old for this kind of work
05:36 PM roycroft: i'm not going half speed, but i need frequent breaks, so i'm getting about half as much done now as i used to
05:36 PM Tom_L: they don't home the gantry my kid runs but instead work off a reference point
05:37 PM JT-Shop: did you bite off more than you can chew?
05:37 PM Tom_L: it would take too long
05:37 PM Tom_L: steak?
05:37 PM Tom_L: never
05:37 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, yea, but I wanted max traversal to be non frustrating
05:37 PM JT-Shop: work
05:37 PM rue_mohr: my first machine were unipolar stepper, so I have a deep ingrained frustration with waiting a long time for an axis to jog
05:38 PM roycroft: i'll get it all done, but i'm scaling back my expectations before move-in
05:38 PM Tom_L: ahh you meant roy
05:39 PM roycroft: and even though it's going to cost me $60k or more, i'm glad i decided to contract out the foundation and bathroom work at the old place
05:39 PM roycroft: i'd have never gotten that done
05:40 PM roycroft: maybe i'm being foolish with this job
05:40 PM roycroft: i'm pulling four new circuits, and drilling four holes through the studs, so i'm not stacking the wires
05:41 PM rue_mohr: no 14/3?
05:41 PM roycroft: looking at the original wire runs, there are 4 or 5 14ga romex cables and an 8ga all running in the same hole, with no spacers
05:41 PM roycroft: 12/2 for what i'm doing now
05:41 PM rue_mohr: k
05:42 PM rue_mohr: how about 12/3 to double your money?
05:42 PM roycroft: they're not all going to the same place
05:42 PM rue_mohr: mind that neutral splice is good
05:42 PM roycroft: i'd rather pull home runs for them all
05:42 PM rue_mohr: mhm, fair
05:42 PM rue_mohr: when I did my shop, the only 14 is the lights
05:42 PM roycroft: the new sub panel is in the room next to the room where i'm doing the new pulls
05:43 PM roycroft: so the pulls are not too long
05:43 PM rue_mohr: I used 12/3 and leapfrogged circuits,
05:43 PM rue_mohr: plug on A, plug on B...
05:43 PM rue_mohr: fair
05:43 PM roycroft: two of the circuits are dedicated to my computer rack
05:43 PM rue_mohr: wish I'd used something heavier for my welder circuit tho
05:44 PM roycroft: the other two are to power devices in the room, such as the laser, electronics bench, 3d printer, etc.
05:44 PM rue_mohr: nice
05:44 PM Tom_L: rue is a sparkie
05:44 PM roycroft: those are all being installed in 4 gang boxes, two per wall on two walls, 48" above ground
05:44 PM roycroft: the left duplex receptacle in each will be on one circuit, and the right on the other circuit
05:44 PM roycroft: it's how i always do workshop type rooms
05:44 PM rue_mohr: yup, I alternated my heights, every 2nd was for a bench
05:45 PM roycroft: i'm leaving the original receptacles down by the floor
05:45 PM rue_mohr: nice
05:45 PM roycroft: but i'm replacing the 20a breakers that someone put in with 15a, since the wire is 14ga
05:45 PM roycroft: that's the circuit with the burned up wire nut
05:45 PM roycroft: maybe now we know why it burned up
05:45 PM rue_mohr: meh
05:46 PM roycroft: so there will actually be 5 circuits in that room when i'm done
05:46 PM rue_mohr: I'v had 30A on #16 and it just got really warm :]
05:46 PM roycroft: well, six, since one wall is on a bathroom circuit
05:46 PM * roycroft doesn't mess around with that stuff
05:46 PM roycroft: everything to code, every time
05:46 PM rue_mohr: but I found the reason the "15A" breaker wouldn't pop
05:47 PM rue_mohr: I had to do an isolated trip to ID a circuit
05:47 PM roycroft: and btw, 12ga is fine for 30a in a chassis
05:47 PM roycroft: it only gets derated to 20a when you put it in conduit or nm
05:48 PM * roycroft decides to make it a short break and gets back to work
05:48 PM JT-Shop: night
05:49 PM Tom_L: later
05:50 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> dammit, the only thing shittier than these samsung 13mm bushings, is jeff bozos 12.92-12.96mm idler shafts
05:52 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> but the 12.96 shaft is closer to size, but the shaft+ dryer roller is noticably worse quality. poor surface finish, flash on the roller wheel, axial runout
05:54 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> 12.92 shaft has much better quality, surface finish, but is undersized by more. im glad i bought 2 sets, but i should have just bought the OEM samsung ones last monday instead of fuckign jeff bozos one saturday morning.
05:55 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> the moral of the story is, level your dryer properly, and it wont wear out the one bushing/roller wheel
05:56 PM bjorkintosh: so, avoid samsung dryers?
06:01 PM Tom_L: instead of buying 3-4 in a lifetime, buy a commercial set
06:08 PM bjorkintosh: easier said!
06:08 PM rue_mohr: "extended replacement warranty"
06:08 PM rue_mohr: new machines for life
06:08 PM roycroft: i brought the stacking kit for my washer and dryer up here with me
06:09 PM roycroft: the laundry room is small, and i'm going to try stacking
06:09 PM rue_mohr: now a front load washer tho right? :S
06:09 PM * roycroft has all the holes drilled, finally, and now is fishing wires through the walls
06:09 PM roycroft: yes, of course
06:09 PM rue_mohr: oh no
06:09 PM roycroft: front loaders are the only kind to get
06:09 PM rue_mohr: oh no
06:09 PM roycroft: they are so much more water and energy efficient than top loaders
06:10 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, how many seals/bearings are you on with yours now?
06:10 PM rue_mohr: my washing machine is like 40 yrs old
06:11 PM rue_mohr: the cycle for "normal" has a bad contact, and the entire case has come loose from the base, but it keeps going
06:11 PM bjorkintosh: aren't the old washer/dryers really power inefficient as well?
06:11 PM rue_mohr: they get things clean the first time
06:11 PM bjorkintosh: oh. one of those.
06:11 PM rue_mohr: nomatter what kinda mess I put in
06:11 PM bjorkintosh: it's not eco friendly then.
06:11 PM rue_mohr: and I'll ahve you know, I'm single
06:12 PM rue_mohr: blanket -> throw it in, carpet -> throw it in
06:12 PM rue_mohr: pillows, wtf its a washing machine, in they go!
06:13 PM rue_mohr: shoes, well their caked in mud, in it goes!
06:13 PM rue_mohr: (dryer does NOT like shoes)
06:13 PM bjorkintosh: bad taste I guess.
06:13 PM bjorkintosh: tried it once, wasn't it for dryer?
06:13 PM rue_mohr: the set produces clean marrettes too
06:13 PM rue_mohr: I should do a better job of emptying my pockets after work
06:14 PM rue_mohr: but I'll never find a new machine that will outlive my old one
06:14 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> nah, the dryer is a solid unit, used the last one for like 10+ years, but i knew i needed to level this one, but ive just been saticking stuff under the machine leg
06:15 PM rue_mohr: I was trying to find a commercial machine, gave up
06:15 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> and that side that i knew it was leaning to, was the side with the scored shaft/bushing/flat on the roller
06:15 PM rue_mohr: I think every front loader blows its bearings and leaks within 3 years
06:16 PM rue_mohr: and I'm not just going by Tom_L s fights with his
06:16 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> _what big top loaders wants you to think_
06:16 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> last unit only got replaced because the circuit board was the same price as a new unit, never had it leak or bearings before
06:16 PM rue_mohr: big_k, I know many many people who had them fail in a few years
06:17 PM rue_mohr: heh
06:17 PM rue_mohr: there is that with the new machines too
06:17 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> _what big top loaders dont want you to know_
06:17 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> leave the door open when its not used
06:17 PM rue_mohr: mines a mechanical timer
06:18 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> i didnt realize that the top vs front was a thing till i was on 4chan the other day and there was a whole thing on it.
06:18 PM rue_mohr: what did they say?
06:18 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> its hard to put back together, but its easier than takiong it apart
06:18 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> only because i broke a bunch of clips and lost the bolts into my sump pump
06:23 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> hmm only replacing 1 roller instead of all 4.... im sure i wont regret it later...
06:24 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> but im also sure that if i level the dryer now....then the other bearings might wear out faster, instead of just the 1 bearing
06:28 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> big_kevin420:be a good American consumer,,,,,, buy a big new one....
06:42 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> or a good european consumer, and buy a dual washer/dryer that works half as good
07:33 PM roycroft: wires are all pulled
07:33 PM * roycroft also forgot how much more wire is needed than it would appear
07:34 PM roycroft: time to go home
07:34 PM roycroft: i'm still far behind schedule, but i'm getting stuff done, so that's good
08:06 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I got all the old 'electronics' off the 42 truck..
08:07 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> and all the wiring
08:07 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/oIfWJwWMffGJHkQkwSCWpFbe/PXL_20240413_211349160.jpg
08:08 PM Tom_L: gonna rewire it all?
08:08 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> yes
08:08 PM Tom_L: what a mess
08:08 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> the wire was so bad.
08:08 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> at some point someone tried to re-wire it - but just hooked into the existing wiring.
08:09 PM XXCoder: that reminds me. roycroft did you finish wiring fix on truck?
08:09 PM Tom_L: doubt you'd find an aftermarket harness for it
08:09 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> no.. I just bought a generic wiring harness from amazon. It will get me mostly there.
08:10 PM XXCoder: didnt know there was such thing as generic one
08:10 PM Tom_L: back then things were pretty basic
08:10 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> it is a 12 circuit..
08:11 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06W5NC8PZ?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
08:11 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I had a hard time finding something that didn't have 30 circuits.. lol
08:16 PM XXCoder: lol
08:18 PM Tom_L: did that have a generator or alt?
08:22 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> It had a generator - I replaced it with an alternator
08:23 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> The generator wasn't hooked up to anything
08:23 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/GOCtYuGFmjymaRXNdbdCheQZ/PXL_20240406_214735934.MP.jpg
08:23 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> As someone else said - the belt is a bit long.. But it was the one that was there.
08:27 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> dad had bought a bracked to mount an alternator to the tractor.. But I think he ended up using the existing - this had the same bolt hole patern - so I used it,
08:27 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> nothing to write home about - but it was done
08:44 PM * roycroft is back home and happy to be so
11:03 PM roycroft: well that's a relief - my initial tax calculation indicates that i'm owed a refund of at least a few hundred dollars, so i feel fine about filing an extension tomorrow
11:03 PM roycroft: without sending a wad o' cash to be sure
11:41 PM XXCoder: nice
11:41 PM XXCoder: roy did you ever finish fixing that truck wiring?
11:51 PM roycroft: no
11:51 PM roycroft: and i won't finish it until i finish moving, at this point
11:53 PM XXCoder: doh. in least its still functional and can be driven?
11:53 PM roycroft: yes
11:53 PM roycroft: the only electrical thing that doesn't work is the license plate light
11:53 PM roycroft: and when i'm not driving at night that's not an issue at all
11:54 PM XXCoder: nice. hide that expired tag ;)
11:54 PM XXCoder: kidding
11:54 PM roycroft: there's a lot of wiring cleanup to do, but it's mostly functional
11:54 PM roycroft: i put new mirrors on the pickup last summer and still have to wire up the indicators and heaters on them
