06:53 AM Tom_L: morning
06:55 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
06:57 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, we're not there yet but didn't initially sign up for it
06:58 AM JT-Cave: ah still on the ground?
06:59 AM Tom_L: spending today in the gulf coast
06:59 AM JT-Cave: cool
07:00 AM Tom_L: got in around 3:30 yesterday
07:02 AM Tom_L: hope things are going well there
07:03 AM JT-Cave: yeah, they seem to be going well with the wife and I "think" we are bringing her home today
07:04 AM Tom_L: I was wondering about that
07:04 AM JT-Cave: gotta build a platform next to the bed with hand rails so she can get in and out of bed
07:05 AM JT-Cave: got the base done yesterday
07:05 AM JT-Cave: gotta finish it before bed time tonight lol
07:06 AM Tom_L: better get busy
07:07 AM JT-Cave: and they give you a list of must have things just a few days before she gets out lol
07:08 AM JT-Cave: rain today then sunny for the eclipse then rain for the next few days
07:09 AM Tom_L: They've had traffic warnings. The whole way down here about the eclipse
07:09 AM Tom_L: Houston is bad enough on a good day
07:10 AM JT-Cave: yeah my daughter came up from Spring Tx yesterday
07:12 AM Tom_L: Is she gonna stay and help for a while
07:12 AM JT-Cave: yup
07:12 AM Tom_L: That's good
09:27 AM JT-Shop: the real fun begins today the wife is getting discharged from the hospital this afternoon
10:08 AM lcnc-relay: <zmrdko (@_discord_397707718582075420:jauriarts.org)> Is it still valid, that 7i95t needs linuxcnc 2.10, please?
10:11 AM JT-Woodshop: I "think" it works with 2.9 I can test in a few
10:12 AM lcnc-relay: <zmrdko (@_discord_397707718582075420:jauriarts.org)> Cause I am having strange issue:i get following error after some distance on one axis 🤕
10:17 AM JT-Woodshop: if the config starts the it works with the version you have
10:18 AM JT-Woodshop: maybe pcw--home can shed some light on this?
10:32 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> JT-Woodshop: Hye guy. what luck.... you're in direct line for the eclipse....
10:33 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> 'course, you know that already...
10:34 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> it's still pretty cooooool
10:35 AM pcw--home: } else if (strncmp(board_name, "7I95T", 8) == 0) {
10:35 AM pcw--home: strncpy(llio_name, board_name, 4);
10:35 AM pcw--home: == The 7I95T is supported in 2.9
10:45 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer (@_discord_731083529441640538:jauriarts.org)> howdy 🙂
11:18 AM roycroft: i'l be a 10 percenter here - i'll see 10 percent of the eclipse
11:18 AM roycroft: but i was a totalitarian in 2017
11:19 AM bjorkintosh: how did the totalitarian event of august 21 2017 (10:00am-ish?) (re)shape your life?
11:19 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> just around 35% here....
11:19 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> no big deal. seen full ones before.
11:20 AM * bjorkintosh didn't see shit. sun was too far away.
11:20 AM lcnc-relay: <roguish> still pretty neat
11:55 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer (@_discord_731083529441640538:jauriarts.org)> 98%-ish where i am, so it should be interesting
03:01 PM lcnc-relay: <roguish> wow. all quiet today..................................
03:01 PM XXCoder: yep
03:02 PM XXCoder: tend to be he case for sunday, though not always
04:40 PM roycroft: grr
04:41 PM roycroft: someone "upgraded" the power in this house by replacing the 15a branch circuit breakers with 20a breakers, but leaving the 14ga wire in place (and all the 15a receptacles)
04:41 PM roycroft: now i have to go buy a bunch of 15a breakers
04:41 PM XXCoder: ugh
04:41 PM XXCoder: lucky no fire
04:41 PM roycroft: yes
04:41 PM roycroft: i discovered this when i heard one of the receptacles in the room i'm working in start buzzing
04:42 PM roycroft: i decided to trace it back to its breaker so i could kill power to it and investigate the buzzing
04:42 PM roycroft: and i did discover the cause of the buzzing
04:43 PM XXCoder: if anyone ever used that bad "breaker trigger" tool, it would have melted wires
04:43 PM roycroft: all the receptacles are 99 cent specials, with the wire feeding into a little clip in the back insteas of having a screw lug
04:43 PM roycroft: and of course the wires are loose after all these years
04:43 PM XXCoder: checked if it was actual earthed? if someone messed with 20a breakers, id not be surpised if those exist
04:44 PM * roycroft will be upgrading to commercial grade 20a receptacles, but will install the 15a breakers until he can upgrade the wiring as well
04:44 PM roycroft: i haven't checked yet
04:44 PM roycroft: i just left the breaker for that room off, and am using extension cords from a different circuit right now
04:44 PM XXCoder: easy enough to check, if theres wire connecting earth to one of poles, its fake earth
04:45 PM roycroft: i was supposed to have the ceiling painted, the walls patched and ready to prime, and the floor patched by today
04:45 PM roycroft: none of that is done
04:45 PM roycroft: i'm still doing basic demo and prep work
04:45 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcodery> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/oEcfHsSkWJCuxRdjBoPzMytz/1520059216324.png
04:45 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcodery> example
04:45 PM roycroft: every room is going to be a challenge, i'm sure
04:46 PM XXCoder: for anyone seeing that picture, no, it is NOT good idea.
04:46 PM roycroft: but i'm only doing extensive work on two rooms before i move in
04:46 PM XXCoder: yeah can live in while finishing rest of rooms
04:46 PM roycroft: that is definitely really scary
04:46 PM roycroft: the room i'm working on is my indoor "shop"/studio
04:47 PM roycroft: the laser and the 3d printer will live there
04:47 PM XXCoder: nice
04:47 PM roycroft: as well as my server rack
04:47 PM roycroft: it needs two new 20a circuits - one for the server rack, and one for the laser and 3d printer area
04:47 PM XXCoder: using fancy ups where it cleans power up and stuff?
04:47 PM roycroft: it's also getting a new floor
04:47 PM roycroft: my ups is clean enough
04:48 PM roycroft: almost this entire house is carpeted, and it's a dark orange carpet from the '80s
04:48 PM XXCoder: fancy. hey its not shag type is it? lol
04:48 PM roycroft: the studio room is getting industrial vinyl floor tiles, which will be much more appropriate for that space
04:48 PM roycroft: no, it's not shag
04:48 PM roycroft: shag carpet was late '60s/'70s
04:49 PM roycroft: thick pile was '80s
04:49 PM roycroft: this house was built in '84
04:49 PM roycroft: both bathtubs are almond
04:49 PM roycroft: which sucks but it's better than avocado or mustard
04:49 PM XXCoder: lol
04:49 PM * roycroft gets back to work
04:51 PM roycroft: oh, and almost the whole house has fake woodgrain paneling installed as wainscotting, but really low - 26" high
04:51 PM roycroft: i pulled all that out of the studio today
04:51 PM roycroft: in the living room/dining room i'll leave it for now, but eventually i'll pull it and install bead board wainscotting at the proper height
04:52 PM roycroft: which will be painted, not fake woodgrain
04:52 PM XXCoder: damn very 80s lol
04:52 PM XXCoder: maybe you should undo the changes and have house historic
04:56 PM roycroft: i'm adding value to the house with every piece of crap i remove
04:56 PM roycroft: oh, and btw, jay bates is moving shop now
04:56 PM roycroft: yet another youtube woodworker moving
04:56 PM XXCoder: lol
04:56 PM XXCoder: you got infected with moving virus
04:56 PM XXCoder: thats why you moved ;)
04:56 PM roycroft: he's kind of in my situation, but worse
04:56 PM roycroft: he has land, but no structures
04:57 PM roycroft: so he's moving his shop into a shipping container, and his house into a shipping container
04:57 PM roycroft: then, when he builds his new house and shop he'll move from the shipping containers into the new structures
04:57 PM roycroft: at least i have a house and part of a shop to move into
05:06 PM XXCoder: yeah
05:26 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
05:50 PM * JT-Shop is damn glad that ordeal is over with
05:50 PM XXCoder: shes a lot better?
05:51 PM JT-Shop: well her back is fixed and she's home but there 6 weeks of healing ahead
05:51 PM JT-Shop: handicap platform and rails are done so time to quit for the night
05:55 PM XXCoder: nice
05:56 PM XXCoder: my package finally decided to come back from its vacation in texas
05:56 PM JT-Shop: lol
05:56 PM XXCoder: so finally get it tomorrow. geez. wonder why it went to wa, then texas, then back to wa
05:56 PM JT-Shop: I have a mesa board that is in limbo
05:56 PM JT-Shop: one I sent last week to maine went to ca first
05:58 PM JT-Shop: I'm just wore slick and glad I don't have to drive 3 hours again tomorrow
05:58 PM XXCoder: ugh lol. im not looking forward to may drive for 3 hours or so
05:59 PM JT-Shop: been doing that drive every day since Wednesday
06:10 PM roycroft: well, it's almost time to go home, but i don't feel like i've really accomplished anything today
06:10 PM JT-Shop: which home?
06:10 PM roycroft: the old home
06:10 PM roycroft: i'm at the new one now
06:10 PM XXCoder: well you probably did a lot more than me today lol
06:10 PM roycroft: i think i'll stay a little late and at least get the ceiling painted
06:11 PM JT-Shop: hopefully you're hauling all you can each trip
06:11 PM roycroft: i need to start work on my taxes tonight
06:11 PM roycroft: yes, i'm filling whatever vehicle i take on every trip
06:11 PM JT-Shop: I have to do mine as well now that the wife is home from the hospital
06:12 PM roycroft: i pack the tools and supplies i need for the day and then i fill the rest of the available space with whatever i won't need for a whiel and is easy to haul
06:12 PM JT-Shop: how far is the trip?
06:12 PM roycroft: 45 miles each way
06:12 PM JT-Shop: not too bad but not trivial either
06:13 PM roycroft: i've been filing an extension on my taxes for the past two years, but this year we're getting the biggest kicker ever, and i'm bleeding money right now
06:13 PM roycroft: so i want my kicker check :)
06:13 PM JT-Shop: state taxes?
06:13 PM roycroft: yes
06:13 PM roycroft: we have an odd law - every year our state economist forecasts how much revenue the state will bring in, and the legislature uses that figure to develop the budget
06:14 PM roycroft: if more comes in than is forecast, by law the state has to return it to the taxpayers as a "kicker"
06:14 PM JT-Shop: interesting idea
06:14 PM roycroft: since the economy is so strong, we brought in a huge amount of extra money last year
06:15 PM roycroft: it's a generally good idea, but i think it needs to be changed so that the state can keep some of the excess in a rainy day fund, for years when revenue is less than forecast
06:15 PM roycroft: not all of it, nor even most of it, but some of it
06:15 PM roycroft: in the meantime, i'm looking forward to my kicker refund, plus my regular refund
06:16 PM JT-Shop: having some fall back funds is a good idea even for goverment
06:16 PM roycroft: all this means i'm going to get my taxes completely done by the 15th, come hell or high water
06:16 PM roycroft: yeah, when we have revenue shortfalls the state has to cut back on spending, sometimes on essential services
06:16 PM JT-Shop: I prob have to pay so no extension for me
06:17 PM roycroft: well, you can still file the extension, but if you do, you had better pay enough by the 15th to cover the bill
06:17 PM JT-Shop: might as well just file if you owe
06:17 PM roycroft: yes, if you ican
06:17 PM roycroft: can
06:18 PM roycroft: i've been filing extensions because i did not have time to calculate everything
06:18 PM JT-Shop: I did that once
06:18 PM roycroft: i just filed the extensions and sent enough to be sure i had it covered, then finished when i could, and got some of it back
06:18 PM roycroft: i was giving the government a free loan because i ran out of time
06:18 PM roycroft: oh well
06:18 PM * roycroft gets to painting
06:18 PM JT-Shop: yup
06:19 PM * JT-Shop wanders inside to call it a day
06:19 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcodery> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/MbRQLFsirgNlCUlmiiiNrtXe/image.png
06:19 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcodery> reminds me of this tax joke
06:25 PM XXCoder: yo
06:29 PM lcnc-relay: <zmrdko (@_discord_397707718582075420:jauriarts.org)> Thanks pcw
06:31 PM lcnc-relay: <zmrdko (@_discord_397707718582075420:jauriarts.org)> I found out I was using stepgen.xx.control-type 1 ( I believe velocity mode) and that caused kind id random following error issues
06:31 PM lcnc-relay: <zmrdko (@_discord_397707718582075420:jauriarts.org)> Changed to 0 and no issues anymore
06:32 PM lcnc-relay: <zmrdko (@_discord_397707718582075420:jauriarts.org)> Is the position mode preffered in general? For standard axis
07:36 PM roycroft: well yay, the ceiling is done
07:36 PM roycroft: i feel like i actually accomplished something today
07:36 PM roycroft: but i'm not going to start with the sheet rock repair on the walls today, nor do anything more on the floor
07:37 PM * roycroft is thinking a 6 hour day after work during the week might be in order
