12:49 AM Deejay: moin
01:29 AM solarwind: Tom_L you think _he's_ bad? Just wait until you see this veegee guy
01:29 AM solarwind: I heard he's the absolute worst
04:05 AM Tom_L: solarwind, flyback and I get along just fine
04:08 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer (@_discord_731083529441640538:jauriarts.org)> Morning
04:43 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:45 AM JT-Mobile: morning
07:37 AM solarwind: flyback I wanted that primarily for use on my raspberry pi because it's super cheap and you don't need that much space, but turns out I'm using at least 16GB, so I need to get the 32GB model at least
07:37 AM solarwind: Or the P1600X
08:34 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
09:55 AM Roguish: good morning...... chilly and raining..........
09:56 AM bjorkintosh: so, would you say the weather is a bit Roguish?
09:56 AM Roguish: ha ha.....
09:57 AM bjorkintosh: :-)
10:00 AM ziper2: how do you cut internal splines?
10:00 AM ziper2: shaper, edm, broach? anything else?
10:00 AM Roguish: generally with a broach
10:00 AM lcnc-relay: <zincboy_ca_on> Rotary broach
10:00 AM Roguish: edm would work...
10:10 AM JT-Mobile: cold overcast and windy here
10:34 AM pcw---home: Rainy and overcast here, its been unusually cool and wet this winter/spring, good thing is reservoirs are full so no drought this years
10:39 AM Roguish: how are the goats taking it ???
10:41 AM pcw---home: We have sheep, but they hate rain (all in the shelter now)
11:29 AM Tom_L: JT-Mobile, what is xyzh.ui?
11:29 AM JT-Mobile: it has the home sequence for all axes so home all is enabled
11:30 AM Tom_L: ok
11:37 AM Tom_L: you want my tool table to go with the ini?
11:41 AM Tom_L: mdi command doesn't add to history
11:42 AM Tom_L: it ran ok, no errors
11:43 AM Tom_L: stop still doesn't enable Run program
11:43 AM Tom_L: step, pause, resume seem better
11:44 AM Tom_L: file->reload re'enables run program
11:47 AM Tom_L: feed override during run program, stops the program for a few seconds updates then run program resumes. quite a lag
11:48 AM Tom_L: unhome a single axis causes them all to grey out
11:49 AM Tom_L: home all works as expected
11:52 AM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> morning
11:58 AM JT-Mobile: surgery is done after 4 1/2 hours
11:58 AM JT-Mobile: working on home and unhome now
12:02 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> when will she be able to go home?
12:03 PM JT-Mobile: 3-5 days
12:04 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> wow - sending thoughts!
12:04 PM JT-Mobile: thanks
12:12 PM Rab: JT-Mobile, good luck to both of you.
12:12 PM JT-Mobile: thanks
12:13 PM JT-Mobile: I'm sure she will be in la la land for most of today
12:13 PM pcw---home: Yes, best wishes
12:13 PM Rab: 30mm rails arrived, fitting pretty well on the bed: https://imgur.com/4mB3rrN
12:18 PM Rab: I started this project by looking for an old split-bed lathe, assuming I could run a ballscrew down inside the slot to minimize racking. But I was chagrined to find the casting has a bunch of bulkheads and webbing which are good for rigidity, but bad for that plan. So I'll just run a screw along the backside like a more conventional setup.
12:19 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> im on a lathe project myself too
12:19 PM Rab: I suspect racking isn't actually an issue unless the trucks are really sloppy, which they appear not to be.
12:20 PM Rab: perry_j1987, what's your project?
12:21 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> techno isel 9x20 lathe
12:22 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> its got a mesa 7i96 and gecko g320x servo drivers in it now
12:28 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> there is a 2:1 rule for racking
12:29 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> https://www.igus.com/info/linear-guides-the-2-1-rule-ca#:~:text=The%20other%20rail%20needs%20to,optimize%20the%202%3A1%20ratio.
12:31 PM Rab: perry_j1987 nice, something like this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWCL_GLos-M
12:32 PM Rab: schoch_, very cool, and highly relevant to my project. Thanks!
12:32 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> ya thats the one
12:32 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> though i've done some modifications. i can hold 6 tools in a gangtool setup now. i added a fixture plate with locating pins so i can have multiple gangtool block setups.
12:33 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> have a 5c chuck on it
12:33 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> and possibly the world's scarriest electrical cabinet on the machine lol
12:34 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> upgraded the VFD to an automation direct one too
12:44 PM Rab: I'm about to buy a VFD from AD I think.
12:45 PM Rab: perry_j1987, got a pic of the gangtool setup? Is changing just done by moving the cross slide?
12:49 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> no there's a fixture plate perm bolted on the cross slide
12:50 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> with locating pin bushings and m6 grid of helicoil threaded holes
12:50 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> you just make up a block on the mill and press in two pins and bolt it on the fixture plate in the lathe and use the lathe headstock to drill and bore all your tool holder stations so they are directly inline with the spindle
12:52 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> oh you mean changing tools?
12:52 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> ya gangtool setups are where you have all your tools on there and your x offset basically changes for each tool
12:53 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> you do a g53 to a safe place in Z before you switch tools so you dont crash etc
01:26 PM Rab: perry_j1987, I like it, I've been trying to brainstorm a turret toolchanger but that's a big project.
01:27 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> ya i had to mill out a slot on the servo bracket to allow the saddle to give me an extra inch or so to make this possible
01:28 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> techno isel was using the back of the servo bracket as a hard stop (trade school class machine) so the students wouldnt run the machine into things damageable lol
01:28 PM Rab: Yeah, that's another reason I bought the low-profile rails...trying to keep from eating up swing with all the hardware that has to get stacked up.
01:58 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> it is so crazy how busy you can get in life
01:58 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> finally now getting this 7i85 wired into the lathe i picked up looooooong time ago
02:01 PM * roycroft knows for busy
02:04 PM roycroft: speaking of which, my floor tile just arrived and i have to go pick it up
02:04 PM roycroft: so i'll have at least as much work as i can handle this weekend
02:11 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> tile is fun
02:11 PM lcnc-relay: <perry_j1987> ok i got all 8 pins of the encoders going to the 7i85 now. and then i jumpered A+, B+, GND for each encoder to it's prospective gecko g320 servo drive
02:25 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
03:18 PM Tom_L: stop is still broke
03:19 PM Tom_L: home unhome looks ok
03:20 PM Tom_L: stop leaves run program, jog, home unhome, mdi disabled
03:22 PM Tom_L: mdi still doesn't save history

03:31 PM Tom_L: JT-Mobile, log
03:32 PM Tom_L: program run not enabled after end of program M30 or M2
03:33 PM Roguish: Tom_L, JT-Cave do you guys use an IDE for python ???? I'm watching some tutorials, and they have pycharm
03:33 PM Tom_L: i don't
03:33 PM JT-Mobile: I don't either for python
03:33 PM JT-Mobile: for C I could see using one
03:33 PM Tom_L: i've always just used an editor for programming
03:34 PM Tom_L: i had a debugger i used when i was writing clipper in dos
03:34 PM Tom_L: worked good
03:34 PM Tom_L: didn't need it that often
03:35 PM Tom_L: JT-Mobile, after a program run and it ends, axis goes back to program run enabled
03:35 PM bjorkintosh: I use emacs for everything.
03:36 PM Tom_L: JT-Mobile, btw, how's things goin?
03:36 PM JT-Mobile: she finally made it to her room and the surgery went well
03:36 PM Tom_L: good
03:36 PM roycroft: good to hear, jt-mobile
03:37 PM JT-Mobile: there seems to be some inconsistent state changes that screw up status.py
03:39 PM XXCoder: thats great news jt
03:41 PM Tom_L: can you set a debug level so when you run lcnc in a terminal it displays more output?
03:42 PM Tom_L: i was hoping to catch the states on program end in axis
03:49 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
03:50 PM Tom_L: JT-Mobile, this is an end of program capture from axis debug, maybe it will show some things:
03:50 PM Tom_dev: http://paste.debian.net/1313137/
03:50 PM JT-Mobile: debug only reports errors
03:50 PM Tom_L: full debug
03:50 PM JT-Mobile: wow
03:51 PM Tom_L: i thought it might ouput something useful
03:51 PM jfsimon1981_c is now known as jfsimon
03:53 PM Tom_L: that's a normal program end capture
03:57 PM flyback: solarwind, good luck, yuo might be able to find those 32GB optane modules cheap enugh I dunno
05:18 PM XXCoder: wow thats a lot of rain (primitive tech)
