01:42 AM sensille: my router still behaves strangely, but i can't really pin it down. i do some face milling using the util from qtdragon. afterward i run a program generated by f360. the result of the latter is very imprecise. large path deviations, even the depth is wrong
01:53 AM sensille: the UI shows z=-10, but it is only -8.7. zero is still correct. some time later, maybe after running a different program, running the same program yields the correct results
01:53 AM sensille: as if some setting is wrong, but i can't find it
01:53 AM sensille: or are there some recently fixed bugs that might match that behaviour?
01:53 AM XXCoder: you sure its not incorrect tool for TLO for example?
01:55 AM sensille: ranga: yes
01:55 AM sensille: XXCoder: but the tool table is a good hint, that might be related
01:56 AM XXCoder: ok. hopefully you find whats going on
02:33 AM Guest93: Dobar dan svima.
02:33 AM Guest93: Može li mi netko pomoći savjetom u vezi s pokretanjem CNNC glodalice CNCEST – 6040.
02:33 AM Guest93: Prema uputama, preuzeo sam program MACH3 s kojim nisam mogao pokrenuti stroj. Sada razmišljam o instaliranju linuxCNC programa, pa me zanima osim što moram instalirati Linux ako postoji još nešto na što moram obratiti pozornost. Komunikacija je preko paralelnog priključka.
02:36 AM XXCoder: unfortunately guy left short time afterwards
03:01 AM sensille: XXCoder: there are no tool offsets configured in the tool table. but maybe the tool length sensor program from qtdragon does something unexpected
03:16 AM sensille: i wonder if that would be an upgrade from my 6040: https://aliexpress.com/item/1005004059121733.html
03:16 AM sensille: but those sides really look flimsy
03:17 AM sensille: and building a frame from al extrusions doesn't strike me as a particularly good idea, at least not with so few of them
04:39 AM Tom_L: morning
04:45 AM CloudEvil: :)
05:00 AM JT-Cave: morning
06:23 AM Deejay: re
07:08 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
07:08 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
07:24 AM bjorkintosh: moin moin
08:14 AM JT-Cave: Tom_L, I added more spindle stuff... RTM for more info
08:17 AM Tom_L: hah i just checked so you must have just pushed :)
08:18 AM Tom_L: i'll check when i get back later
11:39 AM Unterhausen: anyone know why the installer might say you skipped installing the system? The installer has given me a lot of errors, but I don't think I've seen that one
11:40 AM Unterhausen: maybe a partitioning error?
11:44 AM bjorkintosh: does it keep a log?
11:45 AM Unterhaus_: I'm not sure, it's a facebook post, in French
11:47 AM Unterhaus_: Apparently it does, but I don't know how you would get there from the installer. /var/log/syslog until after installation
11:48 AM Unterhaus_: hopefully the fb translator works okay, because I don't think I would give useful info in French
11:52 AM roycroft: we had a croatian here on the channel yesterday
11:52 AM roycroft: that may be a first for us
11:53 AM roycroft: and i don't know how good the online tranlators are for that language
11:56 AM bjorkintosh: they're getting pretty damned good, with LLMs
12:27 PM Unterhaus_: my french is fine, I just am bashful about using it
12:40 PM Unterhaus_: I think peut etre it should be <<que m'être capable>>
12:42 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> that was just a chatgpt try...
12:42 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I had 2 years of french in highschool and I can count to 20.. maybe
12:43 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> 10.. I can count to 10
12:45 PM Unterhaus_: I can probably count higher than that if spelling doesn't count
12:45 PM Unterhaus_: when I first went to france, my goal was to be able to make change at a store
12:51 PM roycroft: i can count to 10 in several languages
12:51 PM roycroft: french is interesting as it's base-20
12:53 PM roycroft: so the french word for "80" is "quatre-vingts" - "four twentys"
12:56 PM roycroft: i guess it's most accurate to day it's vestigially base 20
01:00 PM roycroft: as the numbers are only unique through 15, and things like "vignts-onze" have been replace by "trente et un", etc, although 70 is still "soixante-dix", and 90 is still "quatre-vingts-dix"
01:02 PM bjorkintosh: base 20? I didn't realize that.
01:05 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
01:06 PM Unterhausen: they mostly do it to mess with us
01:07 PM Rab: A worthy objective.
01:09 PM Unterhausen: well deserved
01:15 PM XXCoder: roycroft: so asl is base 21, vestigially? ;) it has unique signs all way to 21
01:16 PM Unterhausen: how does asl handle bigger numbers? Like English?
01:16 PM XXCoder: we have signs for 100s thousands, etc
01:17 PM Unterhausen: I was thinking more along the lines of something like 42
01:17 PM XXCoder: so 600 would be 6 (hundred)
01:17 PM XXCoder: thats just 42
01:17 PM Unterhausen: there isn't a sign for 42 though, correct?
01:17 PM XXCoder: just say 4 then 2
01:18 PM Unterhausen: that's simpler than any other language, congrats :)
01:18 PM XXCoder: lol besides from 21 and below yeah
01:23 PM roycroft: but does asl use multiples of 21 for higher numbers?
01:23 PM roycroft: that's the difference
01:23 PM roycroft: spanish, for example, is very base-10
01:23 PM roycroft: but it has unique numbers through 15
01:24 PM XXCoder: roy yeah it doesnt. it would be weird
01:24 PM XXCoder: asl has roots on french
01:25 PM roycroft: once, doce trece, catorze, quince, but then dieciséis, diecisiete, etc.
01:25 PM roycroft: english has unique numbers through 20
01:25 PM roycroft: we don't say ten and seven
01:25 PM roycroft: we say seventeen
01:27 PM roycroft: but we don't say "four twenties", as the french do
01:27 PM roycroft: or "four twenties and ten"
01:27 PM XXCoder: fun
01:27 PM roycroft: i guess the french value their toes as much as their fingers
01:28 PM roycroft: after all, it's those toes that did all the grape squishing to make wine in the olden days
01:28 PM XXCoder: too bad we never used more logical numbering system. like base 8 or 16 lol
01:30 PM roycroft: if we were cartoon characters instead of humans we would probably use base 8
01:31 PM XXCoder: what would you call the greek numbering system
01:33 PM roycroft: greek to me? :)
01:33 PM XXCoder: lol
01:33 PM roycroft: but seriously, it's basically base 10
01:33 PM roycroft: but they did give special significance to the number 5 and its multiples, kind of like roman numerals
01:33 PM roycroft: i'd consider both roman and greek base 10
01:37 PM roycroft: i think my experiment with opera as my primary web browser is about over
01:38 PM roycroft: performance is utter crap, and a lot of websites don't work properly with it
01:38 PM roycroft: it's too bad, because the user interface is much more attractive than firefox, which has always bothered me
01:39 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> there was an awesome radio show.. I don't remember - it might have been radio lab. That talked about how a baby see's numbers
01:40 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> and how we have to unlearn that to understand basic amounts. Like babys see things like 0 to 5 things as a log.
01:41 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> there were tribes that still see quantities this way..
01:42 PM Rab: "One, two, many"?
01:42 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> kinda the way I understood it - yes
01:44 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I think this was it.. https://radiolab.org/podcast/91698-innate-numbers
01:53 PM roycroft: interestingly, gaelic uses singular for one or two, and plural for three or more: aon piseag, dà piseag, trì piseagan (one kitten, two kittens, three kittens)
01:54 PM roycroft: probably the other celtic languages, or at least some of them, behave the same way
01:56 PM roycroft: we kind of do that in english - we might say "a few kittens" when talking about three or more, but we would never say "a few kittens" when talking about two
03:15 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:14 PM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc#0> Does G20/G21 Affect rotary units?
04:15 PM Roguish: shouldn't
04:15 PM JT-Shop: no
04:15 PM JT-Shop: rotary is degrees
04:17 PM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc#0> Interesting. I was going through configs, and this one machine I know they switch from inches to mm often but wasn't sure how that affected rotary.
04:18 PM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc#0> The scaling has been off for 2 years apparently on table rotation. 445 counts/deg vs 444.4444
04:20 PM Roguish: 4 decimal places is pretty small.....
04:24 PM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc#0> 0.6666 counts/deg is small until they're doing an 2m tall piece at 1 turn/mm
05:27 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, what did you add to spindle? i haven't had time to look yet
05:27 PM JT-Shop: reads the ini entries for max, min and increment
05:28 PM Tom_L: nice
05:28 PM Tom_L: defaults if none entered?
05:28 PM JT-Shop: yup
05:29 PM JT-Shop: look at the spindle section of the manual
05:29 PM Tom_L: long day, i may look after dinner
05:29 PM JT-Shop: ok
05:29 PM JT-Shop: I know how those long days are
05:29 PM Tom_L: did the registering til 1 and was up around 4:30
05:30 PM JT-Shop: is it a first come first served thing?
05:30 PM Tom_L: for the most part yes
05:30 PM Tom_L: gives you early boarding (10am)
05:31 PM Tom_L: but we have priority access to alot of things anyway which may be one of them
05:32 PM Tom_L: just took a while to enter all 8
05:32 PM Tom_L: some had passports and some didn't
05:37 PM Tom_L: when it's handy is on the return getting off and heading home
05:37 PM JT-Shop: never did a cruse
05:37 PM Tom_L: some like em some don't
05:38 PM Tom_L: kids & her seem to over other choices
05:38 PM Tom_L: i can nap just about anywhere
05:38 PM Tom_L: the 2 young nieces have never gone so they're excited
05:38 PM JT-Shop: napping is important
05:39 PM XXCoder: I heard rooms is shared between 2 people
05:39 PM Tom_L: depends on the room
05:39 PM Tom_L: min is probably 2
05:39 PM Tom_L: some hold more
05:40 PM XXCoder: frankly as single guy id rather room on my own'
05:40 PM XXCoder: which doubles cost
05:40 PM Tom_L: we did an inside room once and never again.
05:40 PM XXCoder: yeah?
05:40 PM JT-Shop: wife went on a cruse a long time ago and was thinking love boat and was disappointed in the room
05:40 PM Tom_L: no windows
05:41 PM Tom_L: we usually get a balcony
05:41 PM XXCoder: if I went on one id get a inside room I guess. cheaper
05:41 PM Tom_L: so you can sit outside
05:41 PM Roguish: a river cruise on a vessel with only 100 or so would be good
05:42 PM Roguish: but one of those giant monster ships with thousands. no.
05:42 PM JT-Shop: a swamp cruse with 6 is better
05:42 PM Tom_L: i remember one we left out of NewOrleans. iirc 6-8 hrs down the winding Mississippi to the gulf
05:42 PM XXCoder: what about rubber ring with one down river?
05:43 PM Tom_L: alot of dishes were broke on that trip
05:43 PM JT-Shop: yup from no to the gulf is a pretty long trip
05:44 PM Tom_L: they didn't seem to think it was a big deal
05:45 PM Tom_L: they always leave around 4pm
05:46 PM Tom_L: so during dinner that time was interesting
05:47 PM JT-Shop: how so?
05:47 PM Tom_L: all the dishes kept sliding off the tables
05:47 PM JT-Shop: lol
05:48 PM XXCoder: tipsy boat eh
05:55 PM JT-Shop: I thought those cruse ships were pretty stable
05:55 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/temp/DSCN0032.JPG
05:55 PM Tom_L: New Orleans port
05:56 PM Tom_L: they are but that river is pretty winding
05:56 PM JT-Shop: yup been there a few times
05:56 PM Tom_L: same here
05:57 PM Roguish: JT-Shop, didn't you fly over that area in a big blimp?
05:57 PM JT-Shop: so the boat rolls in the turns
05:57 PM JT-Shop: I've been in the goodyear blimp yes
05:57 PM Tom_L: yes
05:57 PM JT-Shop: I used to pilot the saints blimp in the super dome
05:58 PM Roguish: pretty coooool
05:58 PM Tom_L: fun
05:59 PM Roguish: one of my grade school teacher had a chunk of the Hindenburg. passed it around the class.
05:59 PM Roguish: not as good as driving one though...
05:59 PM JT-Shop: cool
06:00 PM Tom_L: they have stabilizers but still roll some
06:01 PM JT-Shop: it took 6 people to fly the blimp in the dome, two pilots, two radio operators and two ground crew
06:01 PM JT-Shop: I was the chief pilot and my buddy was the other pilot
06:03 PM JT-Shop: windy here
06:07 PM Roguish: oughta start calling you Flyboy
06:08 PM Roguish: or maybe Wingnut
06:09 PM Roguish: ooo. check it out. a little breezy on the bay. lot of blow boards out.
06:09 PM Roguish: https://g1.ipcamlive.com/player/player.php?alias=5e863c6e0e66d
06:09 PM Tom_L: are those wind surfers?
06:10 PM Roguish: yup
06:10 PM Roguish: pretty flat water. wind and current are same direction
06:11 PM Roguish: probably 15 knots of breeze. lite for there.
06:15 PM JT-Shop: say good night gracie
06:16 PM Tom_L: later
06:16 PM Tom_L: maybe i'll take a peek this evening
06:23 PM Connor: Is there a way to limit the RPM of a bit? For example, my router can go up to 24k, but, Some of the bits are limited to 12k or 16k. I would like to put the MAX rpm in the tool table for example, and limit the RPM?
06:24 PM Connor: Is that even a thing in the CNC industry ?
06:24 PM Tom_L: that's a thing for the cad cam tool setup
06:25 PM Connor: Using FreeCAD. I'll have to go back and look to see if it has a max RPM for tooling.
06:25 PM Tom_L: dunno
06:26 PM Tom_L: maybe not a max but you should be able to enter the rpm & feed etc in some form or another
06:26 PM Tom_L: be it chip load or rpm/feed
06:27 PM Connor: Can do that. I was just hoping to add some safety factor.. Especially since they can do conversational on this machine. Load the big 2.5" spoil board bit, and try running it at 24k
06:28 PM Tom_L: i can show you video of what happens
06:28 PM Connor: Sure. :)
06:28 PM Connor: But, I'm trying to keep it from happening. :)
06:33 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_Lzw0VBu-I
06:33 PM Tom_L: this was local
06:34 PM Connor: That's a huge fly cutter!
06:34 PM XXCoder: ow
06:34 PM Tom_L: full of energy too
06:35 PM XXCoder: i remember that video but still cringe anyway lol
06:35 PM Tom_L: notice the projectile didn't drop much
06:36 PM Connor: DAMN.. I've seen this before.. That's nasty.
06:36 PM Tom_L: that same year a maintenance guy was crushed by a spindle at another shop iirc
06:37 PM XXCoder: yeah remember hearing about that while working
06:37 PM XXCoder: or was that other one hmm
06:37 PM XXCoder: i remember one where some operator didnt inspect the machine and pressed start button while repairman was working on 4th and pallet inside machine
06:38 PM XXCoder: he was crushed by it
06:38 PM Connor: Anyway.. That's the exact thing I'm trying to prevent. I would like to do it in tool tables at the CNC and not rely on the CAM. But doesn't look like there is a way as of yet.
06:38 PM Tom_L: just a good reminder :)
06:38 PM XXCoder: lots shit all around on that one, operator didnt check, and repairman didnt do a lockout
06:38 PM Tom_L: but like i said, that's generally handled in cad cam
06:39 PM Connor: Again, good cam doesn't handle conversational or hand written programs. :)
06:39 PM Tom_L: you could set a max spindle rpm but that would be for everything and not what you want
06:49 PM Connor: Yea, that's not really what I want.
07:00 PM roycroft: this sounds like trying to solve a social problem with technology
07:00 PM roycroft: that rarely works out well
07:01 PM Connor: Ahh.. It's in a Maker Space. You add technology where you can to help out. :)
07:13 PM roycroft: that's where a lart comes in handy (luser attitude readjustment tool)
07:13 PM roycroft: a good lart is big and heavy and pointy
07:13 PM XXCoder: sword
07:16 PM roycroft: that could be a form of a lart, yes
07:26 PM Connor: So, FYI. I'm not the only one to think of this. Hass added this feature into their machines..
07:27 PM Connor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmtC1PPA1vk
07:31 PM XXCoder: interesting. kind of meh. its good for safety fpor operators, but machinists running many different jobs, it takes a lot more time
07:32 PM Connor: I think it's a good idea, not only for stuff that shouldn't run at higher than specified speeds.. but for probes and other things too.
07:33 PM XXCoder: its great for perment tooling like probing yeah
07:34 PM Connor: I'm going to add some interlocks for my probing.. But, this would solve that too.
07:36 PM * roycroft just said "opera app, bye bye"
07:37 PM XXCoder: yeah each time I tried to move on from firefox, im back short time later
07:37 PM XXCoder: I have chromium as backup but I almost never use it
07:38 PM lcnc-relay: <zincboy_ca_on> I do this in my machine. I use some of the unused offset parameters in the tooltable to drive a spindle speed limit in the HAL spindle interface.
07:39 PM Connor: How do you do that?
07:39 PM Connor: If I can do in with some hal magic and not have to mod the src.. then I'll go that way.
07:42 PM lcnc-relay: <zincboy_ca_on> Use the halui.tool.length-offset.[axis] where [axis] is an unused axis in your setup (I use U). Then your spindle interface needs a component that will limit the speed depending on the value in that pin. 0 is unlimited.
07:42 PM lcnc-relay: <zincboy_ca_on> You will need to manually edit your tool table as the unused axis will not show up in most UIs.
07:42 PM Connor: Pinged you on Discord.
08:58 PM Tom_L: you can set the tool table columns in the ini
08:58 PM Tom_L: then it will show
09:06 PM Tom_L: light snow
09:19 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
09:19 PM Tom_dev: JT-Cave1, http://paste.debian.net/1312025/
09:20 PM Tom_L: [SPINDLE_0] section isn't in the ini
09:24 PM Tom_L: or if any of the settings are missing it also errors
09:25 PM Tom_L: MIN_FORWARD_VELOCITY, MAX_FORWARD_VELOCITY or INCREMENT
09:25 PM Tom_L: all present, it starts up without errors
09:26 PM Tom_L: should have a default for each if missing
09:27 PM Tom_L: clear errors button works but doesn't clear the status bar at the bottom 'Error'
09:51 PM Tom_L: Run MDI Command button does not save to history now. command remains on the mdi_command_le bar
09:53 PM Tom_L: command executes but doesn't update to history
