04:14 PM Tom_L: ssh on android still works
04:26 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:35 PM Tom_Phone: As does the irc app
06:03 PM roycroft: white ceilings are so much nicer than almond/yellow ceilings
06:03 PM roycroft: can someone explain why the 1980s were allowed to happen?
06:03 PM XXCoder: you sure it wasnt yellow from smoking?
06:04 PM roycroft: yes
06:04 PM roycroft: and they are a lighter yellow than the original paint
06:04 PM JT-Shop: andy warhol
06:04 PM * roycroft has done the forensics
06:04 PM roycroft: he was '60s
06:05 PM roycroft: and the campell's soup can was a great piece ofart
06:05 PM roycroft: or are you saying the '80s was a pushback on warhol?
06:05 PM * JT-Shop calls it a day
06:05 PM JT-Shop: could be
06:07 PM Tom_L: you could have had sparklie textured celings
06:58 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> starlink didn't like the heavy snow we are getting... I think the heating doesn't react quick enough
06:59 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> It was pointing strait up - climbed up the ladder - wiped the dish - by the time I was off the ladder it was pointed normally again..
06:59 PM XXCoder: if it froze that often, I would add some cermic heating set to some low temperate
06:59 PM XXCoder: like 40f
06:59 PM XXCoder: it'll keep it toasty
06:59 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> others say - just keep the pre-heat on.. I had been doing that - but turned it off for some reason.
07:00 PM XXCoder: cermic heaters cant go hotter than its rated temperate so it will never overheat also
07:00 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> mainly because it had been such a mild winter
07:14 PM lcnc-relay: <unterhausen> sig 11 is segfault
07:15 PM lcnc-relay: <unterhausen> should lcnc ever segfault due to config?
07:21 PM lcnc-relay: <ranga> <generic> Its more likely your config invoked a bug in some submodule. Describe your setup
07:45 PM lcnc-relay: <unterhausen> not my setup, it's at the end of this thread on the forum https://forum.linuxcnc.org/38-general-linuxcnc-questions/51524-rtapi-app-caught-signal-11-dumping-core#291879
07:46 PM lcnc-relay: <unterhausen> he should have started his own thread, the OP was writing code, this guy is just trying to get lcnc running again
07:47 PM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc#0> Any actual output would be useful to help them debug. What was printed before the segfault, etc.
07:48 PM lcnc-relay: <unterhausen> I agree, he's looking at the wrong stuff
07:49 PM lcnc-relay: <unterhausen> I don't think a reinstall will help
07:51 PM lcnc-relay: <unterhausen> starting to think the parport driver didn't load
07:53 PM Tom_L: did he try the new RTAI install?
07:54 PM Tom_L: i installed it on an old D525 that had been running wheezy and the latency was practically identical
07:56 PM Tom_L: it _does_ require all 3 files near the bottom of the downloads page
07:59 PM Tom_L: which might be different than the link in the thread
08:25 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcodery> lol nice https://www.reddit.com/r/Machinists/s/vSCF1kLIRH
09:41 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> my first linuxcnc project, designed by my 10 year old son https://youtube.com/shorts/Fp2RBfhA4QQ
09:42 PM XXCoder: wow thats a big pill
09:42 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> he was inspired by the knee crank on my 3/4 bridgeport which makes a nice pop when removed.
09:44 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> could have lapped the bore but it is hard to get a 10 year old to pay attention in the shop so we cut some corners.
09:44 PM XXCoder: well it does look nicely fitted
09:45 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> we rushed the polishing quite a lot
09:45 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> you can see some machine marks
09:45 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> but I really love that spun ball finsish. Tooling balls are just nice to look at
09:46 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> it isn't really ergonomic, it should have a bit more than a hemisphere so you have more grip but he wanted it that way.
09:47 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> i have some d and a tool steel, would be better to harden it and finish grind it.
09:48 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> the 5 axis BOB i was using fucked up my encoder signal, spent many hours fighting it until I dragged the scope out and saw the god awful wave form. removed the BOB and it worked much better.
09:48 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> wonder what the problem was, it has 1k inline resistors into PC817 opto-couplers, it seems that side was the issue.
09:49 PM bjorkintosh: <schoch_> what sort of lathe did you do that work on?
09:51 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> i have a shitty mx210 that we did the bore and plunger. did the hemisphers on a harborfright mini lathe with a ball screw on the Z, the OG screw in the X. LCNC step gen and encoder stuff on tang nano 9k running riocore to a pi 4 running linux cnc 2.9.2
09:52 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> i have 2 80mm chucks, the first one was so unable to grip the part I couldn't cut it at any speed.
09:52 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> the 2nd worked like a champ.
09:52 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> the side with the plunger fit into a er32 chuck and with a bearing style collet nut it was rock solid.
09:53 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> but i also had a saddle for it that I bought from little machine shop and flats (the bottom of the cross slide) wasn't flat and it would tip over and the gib would wedge. I had to rip everything apart and swap back in the original and that also fixed a bunch of problems.
09:54 PM bjorkintosh: harbor freight??
09:54 PM bjorkintosh: damn that's some great results!
09:54 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> i'm not sure if the LMS saddle was the problem, I may have machined it back when I made a tapered gib cross slide (still not 100% finshed)
09:55 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> i used a 6mm diameter button insert for the hemisphere and fusion 360 CAM took care of the offests.
09:56 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> I think i'm going to play with making some taper-loc hubs next for some small balls screws I have
09:56 PM bjorkintosh: so a harbor freight lathe did all that?!
09:56 PM bjorkintosh: I'm deeply impressed.
09:57 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> I'm hoping I can make the shaft mating part from aluminum and print the other taper with GT22 or HTD3
09:57 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> well, the HF lathe did the curves
09:57 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> my mx210 did the roughing
09:58 PM bjorkintosh: what's the mx210?
09:58 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> and the bore, which actually came out good. i wrote an ELS for it and it can do decent.
09:58 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> shitty $900 shipped chinese lathe with 38mm bore, ~8" swing
09:59 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> lots of work to get that thing working well
09:59 PM bjorkintosh: well it can't be *that* shitty!
09:59 PM bjorkintosh: sounds like it can build its replacement.
10:00 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> I made a mt5 to 5c adapter and it is much more rigid with it in there. I also have an er32 chuck and shortening the distance from the spindle bearings makes a huge difference.
10:00 PM bjorkintosh: I mean, if indeed what I thought was a crap machine, made that pill, I'm going to get one (for starters)
10:01 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> well, i do have a ball screw in the Z, KR33, and I made tapered "gibs" for the saddle
10:01 PM bjorkintosh: you modded it?
10:01 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> what pitch is the kr33
10:01 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> it is also running a sewing servo for the spindle motor
10:01 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> 5mmI think big_kevin420
10:02 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> ok, not bad, 10mm ballscrew?
10:02 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> it may be 12
10:02 PM bjorkintosh: damn. I really should stop dissing harbor freight.
10:03 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> it is such a shitty install that there is quite a lot of preload on it. when the tension is off it is butter smooth. when my incorrectly sized shim is bolted to the saddle it is fairly tight
10:03 PM bjorkintosh: <schoch_> where did the mx210 come from?
10:03 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> ebay
10:03 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> you can still get them pretty cheap
10:03 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> mine arrived like it was rolled off a few trucks
10:04 PM bjorkintosh: is it a grizzly?
10:04 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> the seller was decent though and sent me some replacement parts
10:04 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> noname reject likely
10:04 PM bjorkintosh: fuck. I'm really impressed.
10:05 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> i have a wade spindle I'm thinking about using, need to figurate a bed for it since I only have the spindle
10:05 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> I really want a hardinge polishing lathe or HC type
10:06 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> they seem to go for ~ $1500
10:09 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> i guess you call them 2nd operation lathe, they seem like a perfect platform for a smaller cnc lathe
