01:23 AM Deejay: moin
03:58 AM Tom_L: morning
05:01 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:13 AM Centurion_Dan1 is now known as Centurion_Dan
08:27 AM JT-Cave: Tom_L, recent files is almost done it works but does not update the recent file list yet
08:43 AM NoSpark: Hi guys, looking for some advice on how to set up a ESTOP and machine on on a CNC conversion
08:44 AM NoSpark: The problem I'm having is that the ESTOP and Safety systems are hardware based, not linuxcnc based. I have a couple of PILZ Safety certified relays, connected to the STO and Hardware blockout systems on the servos and spindles
08:46 AM NoSpark: so, if the safety relay opens, then the drives stay powered on, but the safety system kicks in and "locks out" the drives
08:46 AM skunkworks: That all sounds good....
08:50 AM NoSpark: the safety system is turned on with the main "machine power" relay
08:51 AM NoSpark: and there is a hardware button connected to the safety relay to reset the safety relay after power on
08:51 AM NoSpark: so the problem is, linuxcnc expects machine power to be turned on AFTER the ESTOP system is cleared
08:52 AM NoSpark: (also, there is a PLC output from the safety relay connected to a linuxcnc input, assigened to the ESTOP function in hal)
08:53 AM NoSpark: I somehow need to convince linuxcnc to allow me to turn on system power from the gui, and not to cut system power when the ESTOP is tripped
08:54 AM NoSpark: (the drives have special safety systems to brake the drive and stop if the STO inputs are used, if the power is cut, the drives just coast)
08:55 AM NoSpark: it seems very few people use hardware based safety systems, so there is not a lot of info in the forums
09:09 AM jpa-: NoSpark: do you need the linuxcnc machine power setting to control the system power? or could you control that by e.g. a hardware switch?
09:12 AM jpa-: you could have the linuxcnc machine-on signal to be connected just to the drive enable signal
09:15 AM NoSpark: hrmm, there isn't really a drive enable signal
09:16 AM NoSpark: I was hoping I wouldn't have to modify code to use the machine on to control the machine. It has a touchscreen, and I was hoping I wouldn't have to install hardware buttons
09:17 AM jpa-: in what situation do you want to turn off the machine power, then?
09:18 AM NoSpark: I'm really not sure... I was hoping to keep all the 24V stuff powered on all the time ig....
09:18 AM jpa-: so, just do so? ignore the power button in linuxcnc gui, keep the 24V on all the time?
09:18 AM NoSpark: maybe I should just remove the relay and put a "main" switch in
09:19 AM NoSpark: still need to do something about the "machine-on" signal... the machine wont move untill that is triggered, and it is reset by the ESTOP in signal
09:20 AM jpa-: https://github.com/HacklabJKL/sergei_cnc2/blob/main/linuxcnc/config/hal_power_ctrl.hal#L238-L251 i control power with hardware switch, and then have this weird thingy to enable the GUI power setting when power good signal comes high
09:42 AM * JT-Woodshop puts a fan on the split 4x4 to dry it out so glue "might" hold
09:57 AM roycroft: i had an internet outage overnight
09:57 AM skunkworks: facebook seems to be down
09:57 AM roycroft: the internet went down at 12:01 am, and came back on at 6:00 am
09:57 AM roycroft: comcast say they don't know what happened
09:58 AM skunkworks: lol - that sounds encouraging..
09:58 AM roycroft: the timing seems like an unannounced maintenance window to me
09:58 AM roycroft: most of my overnight tasks did not succed, of course
09:59 AM roycroft: but at least i was back online before the work day started
10:01 AM roycroft: it was not an outside cable plant issue, because when i rebooted my cablemodem it synced up right away
10:02 AM roycroft: it just could not get an ip address
10:06 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> my coworker says - it was the russions..
10:06 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> lol
10:06 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> any thing that goes weird is hackers to him.
10:07 AM roycroft: it was probably the criminal bigrants
10:07 AM roycroft: the ones who are storming the border and reading all her missing emails to our enemies
10:08 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> sounds plausable..
10:11 AM * roycroft should probably check out the news soon to see what nonsense is being broadcast today
10:12 AM Roguish: roycroft, not worth the time....
10:12 AM roycroft: i used to keep a couple news sites open in my browser all the time
10:12 AM roycroft: now i check a couple or three times/day
10:14 AM roycroft: the problem is that it's becoming more and more difficult to find a source of actual "news", and not just a bunch of op ed crap that masquerades as news
10:17 AM roycroft: i guess today is super tuesday
10:17 AM roycroft: i wonder who will win the most states from each party
10:17 AM * roycroft really wonders how he's going to fit all his stuff in his new shop, assuming there will be a new shop soon
10:21 AM roycroft: and now the fair office, also on comcast, has no internet
10:31 AM roycroft: and now comcast report over 6000 customers without service in the area
10:32 AM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
10:32 AM Unterhausen: I swear there was a far side cartoon about a desktop black hole
10:35 AM roycroft: i don't remember it but i'm sure there was
10:35 AM roycroft: it's a very far side topic
11:22 AM Tom_L: roycroft, it's the same ones that hacked into the cell phones here a couple weeks ago :)
11:25 AM Roguish: the earth is flat....
11:25 AM Tom_L: i know right?
11:25 AM Roguish: and is overrun with aliens
11:25 AM Tom_L: i do believe that
11:25 AM Tom_L: just look at the highways
11:26 AM Tom_L: at ~10 to the hour in the mornings
11:26 AM Roguish: nah, those are idiots and morons
11:27 AM Tom_L: they were planted to hide the aliens
11:27 AM Roguish: guess the aliens did a good job
11:28 AM Tom_L: they even let them reproduce which is even scarrier
11:30 AM Tom_L: i was among those that lost cell carrier for the day
11:30 AM Tom_L: not sure what exactly caused that
11:38 AM Tom_L: https://apnews.com/article/cellular-att-verizon-tmobile-outage-02d8dfd93019e79e5e2edbeed08ee450
11:43 AM roycroft: people were spouting conspiracy theories during that outage, making all sorts of outlandish claims
11:44 AM roycroft: i said at the time it was probably a botched upgrade attempt
11:44 AM roycroft: it seems i was right
11:44 AM roycroft: never attribute to malice that which can be explained by simple incompetence
12:04 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> agreed
01:04 PM XXCoder: I think amazon is pulling off a scotty thing lately
01:04 PM XXCoder: promise it will arrive at date, and "wow it will arrive a day earlier"
01:06 PM Unterhausen: guess I got to watch some kicad tutorials
01:10 PM Unterhausen: not a good start, looks like I have to add my own part
01:11 PM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc#0> snapeda ftw
01:12 PM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc#0> This is an old tutorial, but new designers I tend to make do this one: https://github.com/MalphasWats/hawk
01:14 PM Unterhausen: thanks. My track record for making new parts is sketchy.
01:15 PM Unterhausen: maybe digikey's library has what I need
01:26 PM Unterhausen: be nice if snapeda made it easier to see if a part was actually available
01:46 PM roycroft: when they were pushing amazon prime really hard nothing would ever arrive before the promised due date
01:46 PM roycroft: but when the pandemic started they started delivering things early
01:47 PM roycroft: and they push prime differently now, but trying to trick people into signing up for a "free trial" that autoconverts to paid prime
01:47 PM XXCoder: yep I keep getting that
01:47 PM XXCoder: since it was automatic I ignored it
01:47 PM roycroft: the "free trial" is the default now, and i have to decline every time
01:47 PM Roguish: just saw that Target is going to start a program similar to Prime....
01:47 PM roycroft: they're counting on my forgetting to decline some day, and then getting my money a month later
01:48 PM XXCoder: I rarely order from amazon so it dont really matter to me, and Im almost never in rush
01:48 PM roycroft: i don't buy much from target, but when i do it's always in-store, and i have a target red card, which gets me 5% off everything
01:48 PM Roguish: Walmart already has a massive online
01:49 PM roycroft: if i move i'll probably start buying more stuff online, as i'll be 50 minutes away from stores
01:49 PM XXCoder: ill go to walmart when its last store
01:52 PM Roguish: online is handy. I prefer to patronize small local stores. they're just trying to make a living like the rest of us
02:26 PM Scopeuk: with the prime trial at one point (not sure if still true) if you cancelled during the trial it just disabled auto renew and had no impact on continuation of service, their web page tries to convince you that is not the case however
03:15 PM JT-Cave: Tom_L, recent files now works!!!!!
03:16 PM JT-Cave: wow that was a tongue twister
04:33 PM Tom_L: JT-Cave, as in gcode file?
04:34 PM JT-Shop: yup when you load a g code file it adds it to the recent files
04:36 PM JT-Shop: provided you have File > Open and at this point File > Edit
04:36 PM Tom_L: nice
04:36 PM Tom_L: how many does it remember?
04:36 PM JT-Shop: 5
04:37 PM JT-Shop: I have one more thing to fix and that's just having File > Open and Recent is inserted after Open
04:39 PM Tom_L: and reload which was there in jet
04:39 PM JT-Shop: actionReload is no longer needed
04:40 PM Tom_L: what if an outside editor changes it?
04:40 PM JT-Shop: sorry actionRecent is not used
04:41 PM Tom_L: oh
04:41 PM JT-Shop: reload is in the works... I think it's next in line
04:41 PM Tom_L: k
04:41 PM JT-Shop: Recent files is automagiclly added
04:42 PM Tom_L: sounds like you've been busy
04:42 PM JT-Shop: been pulling hairs for sure lol
04:42 PM Tom_L: careful, you may run out of them
04:44 PM JT-Shop: lol
04:44 PM XXCoder: effectively no stress here but hair went away anyway
04:44 PM JT-Shop: well scratching my head for sure
04:44 PM XXCoder: I lost my hair at around 10 times faster than my brother, and he works at much more stressful job
04:50 PM JT-Shop: also when you load a recent file it moves it to the top of the recent menu
04:57 PM JT-Shop: I used a polyurethane adhesive to glue the PT split back together
05:19 PM Tom_L: should work ok
05:19 PM JT-Shop: I figured as wet as pt is new and polyurethane is water activated it was a win
05:22 PM JT-Shop: https://youtu.be/Ee1571DObhE?list=PLH4J0b3KfGaNED27Y1kCvS_mSQtyXsiwC&t=1230
05:22 PM JT-Shop: interesting bench dog
05:25 PM JT-Shop: https://youtu.be/Ee1571DObhE?list=PLH4J0b3KfGaNED27Y1kCvS_mSQtyXsiwC&t=1408
05:26 PM JT-Shop: roycroft, have you seen one like that before?
05:37 PM Unterhausen: this reddit post may cause roycroft's head to explode or something https://www.reddit.com/r/epoxy/comments/1b51pc5/just_fired_my_contractor_how_can_i_fix_this/
05:38 PM Unterhausen: til there is an epoxy subreddit
05:38 PM Unterhausen: I may hate-follow it
05:39 PM Unterhausen: customer got what they deserved, good and hard. IMHO
05:39 PM roycroft: the "fix" is to purchase a real counter top :)
05:40 PM XXCoder: reply by op "
05:40 PM XXCoder: If you saw his other work you’d be shocked with how good it is. He was fired for not showing up 80% of the time and he spent half the time here playing with my dog
05:40 PM XXCoder: "
05:41 PM roycroft: are you talking about the vise, jt-shop?
05:41 PM JT-Shop: the bench dog
05:41 PM roycroft: oh, i'm not seeing the bench dog
05:42 PM roycroft: but that video is loading really slowly, and is really choppy
05:42 PM roycroft: thanks, comcast!
05:42 PM JT-Shop: lol
06:05 PM roycroft: sorry, it's not loading at all now
06:05 PM roycroft: my internet connection has been bouncing all day
06:23 PM roycroft: the video is playing now, but i'm still not sure what you mean
06:23 PM roycroft: are you talking about the screw-down holdfast?
06:25 PM XXCoder: i suspect it is but could be wrong
06:30 PM roycroft: if so, that's made by veritas, and you can get it at leevalley.com
06:30 PM roycroft: if you're talking about something differrent i'll look again

07:56 PM hozed: printed some cool stickers recently (the linuxcnc tux's are diecut) https://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/wWcU8FYk/300d18a2-3d37-4fef-a063-e126a2749025.jpg
07:57 PM XXCoder: I like the logo I made better lol
07:57 PM XXCoder: sadly I was going though bad things and forgot about it till they accepted the newer version
07:58 PM XXCoder: if curious its in forum somewhere
07:59 PM hozed: if you can find it i'd love to see it
07:59 PM XXCoder: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/show-your-stuff/32672-linuxcnc-logo?start=80#259152
08:00 PM hozed: was the svg file called linuxcnc chips logo?
08:00 PM hozed: oh ok cool ill look now
08:02 PM hozed: ya this looks awesome. Much cleaner IMO
08:02 PM XXCoder: yeah. took me quite a bit working on it lol
08:02 PM hozed: it def brings the logo into the future i'd say. i like the flat
08:03 PM hozed: not sure if itd be a whole lot better for a sticker, but I really like this for design in software
08:03 PM XXCoder: feel free to use it for whatever
08:05 PM hozed: awesome thanks! ill save it with xxcoder in the svg filename so I dont ever forget who made it haha
08:05 PM XXCoder: :)
08:24 PM XXCoder: oops forgot to comment on this. nice stickers
08:58 PM hozed: thanks! I wanted to flex mostly what we were running =) theyre on our control box and pc as well as other spots in the shop haha
09:00 PM XXCoder: :)
10:13 PM roycroft: so my meeting tonight went really well - everyone got along well and we got done a half hour early
10:13 PM roycroft: were that they would all go that well
10:15 PM XXCoder: nice
