12:58 AM Deejay: moin
05:44 AM JT-Cave: how do you do a pr?
05:48 AM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc#0> Make a branch, push it to the git server, git hub you go to pull requests and click "new"?
05:52 AM JT-Cave: thanks
06:34 AM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc#0> My preference is personal development branches should be on your own fork of the project. Don't clog up the main repo. Causes massive downloads when cloning
06:41 AM JT-Cave: https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/commit/ffe664c0422887c899be5cd59de6b1cb1d1bbc4c
06:41 AM JT-Cave: finally found the commit that removed axes stat
07:01 AM JT-Cave: https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/pull/2899
07:36 AM JT-Cave: well crap I cloned, checked out 2.9 and did a pr and it says it's commit into master... https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/pull/2899
07:49 AM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc#0> Can change the target branch
08:05 AM JT-Cave: where do I change that?
08:28 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> posting a bulldozer on face book marketplace is certainly more popular than anything else I have sold..
08:28 AM bjorkintosh: you have a dozer??
08:30 AM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc#0> PCW is it possible to get a 3d file of the mesa cards? Just to add to the backplane models for our assemblers to reference
08:30 AM CloudEvil: Will you deliver to scotland?
08:30 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> well.. yes.. a couple..
08:30 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> lol.. it is a small one - only around 6400lbs..
08:32 AM bjorkintosh: eh.
08:32 AM bjorkintosh: for construction?
08:32 AM bjorkintosh: or as part of a uhh collection?
08:42 AM JT-Cave: well I tried 3 times to do a pr and failed
08:48 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Umm... Well... Some people have boats?
08:50 AM bjorkintosh: haha.
08:52 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v1/download/jauriarts.org/mVqjmApguNhIIcPFTDSnGvKj
08:52 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> spot for home switch
08:54 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> needs the seat fixed...
08:54 AM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v1/download/jauriarts.org/dcRSlVBFBYqMYRiiIcoBBHqU
09:06 AM JT-Cave: damn I think I finally got a pr from 2.9 to 2.9...
09:26 AM JT-Shop: and a new batch of crickets are on the way
09:38 AM JT-Shop: interesting the first batch came from MS via usps and this order is coming from PA via fedsex
11:59 AM roycroft: hi folks
12:00 PM roycroft: well, my offer was just accepted, so depending on the inspection report and the final finance numbers, i'm probably moving soon
12:13 PM Roguish: roycroft, COOOOL
12:13 PM Roguish: Congrats
12:15 PM JT-Cave: good luck
12:16 PM JT-Cave: to celebrate I'm going to take a nap
12:17 PM roycroft: thanks
12:17 PM roycroft: we'll see how it goes :)
12:18 PM roycroft: this is not the town i want to live in, but financially it makes sense, and if the market improves i should be able to flip it in 2-3 years and get an even better place
12:18 PM roycroft: i just really need to get out of the neighborhood i'm in now
12:18 PM roycroft: it's going downhill rapidly
12:18 PM roycroft: and i need a bigger shop :)
12:45 PM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc#0> Is there a point to PID with out an open looper stepper with mesa cards?
12:45 PM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc#0> If there's no feedback from the motor is the PID not just wasted cpu time?
12:46 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> PID is better for variable latency... (than running the stepgen in postion mode on the mesa hardware)
12:49 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> and unless you are really processing limited - it really doesn't take up much.. I have pid based open loop steppers running on the PI.. No issues.
12:54 PM Roguish: hey roycroft . don't forget the house warming party....
12:58 PM roycroft: i'm going through zoning regs right now
12:58 PM roycroft: this is far from a done deal
12:59 PM roycroft: i may need to go talk to the city planning folks to get an answer
12:59 PM roycroft: there's about an 85% chance i'll be able to build my shop
01:01 PM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc#0> Better to beg for forgiveness?
01:01 PM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc#0> Go Colin Furze Style!
01:05 PM roycroft: i'll already be pushing the limits of what i can legally do
01:05 PM roycroft: light manufacturing in an R-1 zone
01:05 PM roycroft: i think i need everything to be legit
01:22 PM Roguish: are you in city limits? i live in unicorporated county between 2 cities, so I don't work about city crap.
01:26 PM roycroft: i am in city limits now, and the new place is in city limits in a different city
01:26 PM roycroft: but their stuff is mostly managed by the county, and the county are a lot harder to deal with than any of the cities
01:26 PM Roguish: best not to get into trouble
01:26 PM roycroft: right
01:27 PM roycroft: and best to not get myself stuck in a place i can't get out of
01:27 PM roycroft: the offer was accepted today, so the 10 business day window for me to cancel starts tomorrow
01:27 PM roycroft: i'm trying to get all this stuff figured out before that window closes, because i don't want to lose my earnest money
01:28 PM roycroft: i'm going to try to go up and do some measurments today and talk to the city planner
01:29 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> separate or connected?
01:30 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> (dad built all the buildings at the farm with no building permits - because they were 'farm buildings'
01:30 PM roycroft: separate
01:30 PM roycroft: permitting is no problem - they're not expensive, and i don't mind that process
01:30 PM roycroft: i've done it a lot for commercial construction
01:30 PM roycroft: it's setbacks and land use things i have to deal with
01:31 PM roycroft: if my proposed building violates those restrictions then i won't get the permit
01:31 PM roycroft: i'm fine with the percentage of lot with buildings part
01:31 PM roycroft: but not sure about side and road setbacks for what i need to do
01:32 PM roycroft: and there's a squishy rule about auxiliary buildings
01:32 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Sure - when we built houses on my parents land - we had to get re-zoned and all the permits.. I think that was about the end of being able to do it ourselves.. They kinda bulked at me being the elec
01:32 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> trician..
01:32 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> but it passed all the inspections.
01:32 PM roycroft: i'm allowed one (the existing garage/shop), but i'm also allowed two if two is "customary to the area", or something like that
01:32 PM roycroft: i think several of my would-be neighbors have multiple auxiliary structures
01:33 PM roycroft: which makes my case a strong argument for permitting
01:33 PM roycroft: yeah, you can't be the electrician in that case
01:33 PM roycroft: but your parents could
01:33 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> sure - hopefully they are not nimby..
01:33 PM roycroft: the landowner can act as the general contractor
01:33 PM roycroft: but not the landowner's son
01:34 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> The land was already in my name..
01:34 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> so I guess that would be me?
01:34 PM roycroft: oh, then there should have been no problem
01:34 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> this was 20 years ago.. maybe more
01:34 PM roycroft: all the work would still need inspection, but almost all work can be done with the owner acting as general contractor
01:34 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I just remember thinking - hmmm - this might be the last time I can do this on my own..
01:35 PM roycroft: some things, such as lead paint and asbestos mitigation, require a licensed contractor no matter what
01:35 PM roycroft: but as the owner, as long as you can pass inspection you can do your own foundation work, framing, plumbing, electrical, etc.
01:35 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> sure
01:35 PM roycroft: natural gas varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction
01:36 PM roycroft: but some places allow the owner to do that work, again as long as it passes inspection before the gas starts flowing
01:36 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I really think it depends on the local.. right. In the city of lacrosse - I don't think you can.
01:38 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> No electrical equipment, low voltage, communications wiring, grounding/bonding, fixtures or fire alarm system shall be installed, altered, repaired or replaced in the City of La Crosse without the Ele
01:38 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> ctrical Contractor or Fire Alarm Contractor first securing an electrical permit therefore from the Fire Department.
01:38 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> lol
01:38 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I hear horror stories..
01:40 PM JT-Shop: got a quote for 10' of 1" x 0.015" SS shim stock for only $650
01:40 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> mainly neighbors turning neighbors in
01:40 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> oof
01:40 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> that seems expensive
01:53 PM roycroft: sadly, the county building code, on which most cities base theirs, recently changed the definition of "low voltage" from 50 volts to 25 volts, so legally i have to pull a permit an hire an electrician to install a poe ethernet cable
01:56 PM internut: In Los Vegas it would need to be in conduit IIRC
01:56 PM internut: Las
01:57 PM waterppk1: lol, I installed a fire alarm in Wisconsin, needed to be designed by a licensed engineer but it turns out there's no licensure for "fire alarm installer" in Wi so anybody can do the wiring
01:57 PM JT-Shop: the cable clamp nuts on the Kubota battery are toast so I needed some 12mm OD spacers to use a regular M6 nut and found I had a stick of 1/2" brass rod!
02:06 PM Roguish: roycroft, what's the voltage for POE camera?? of POE net switch ???
02:06 PM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc#0> 48
02:07 PM roycroft: 48v
02:12 PM roycroft: those low voltage building code regulations were originally designed with 48v devices in mind, but it seems that government no longer trusts consumers to pull their own ethernet cables (and phone cables - a pots line rings at 48v)
02:12 PM roycroft: thanks to successfull lobbying, i'm sure
02:12 PM XXCoder: nice on house roy. hopefully it will meet needs on regulations etc
02:13 PM roycroft: i'm going up there today to talk to the city planner
02:17 PM Roguish: roycroft, I'd just say it's network cable and not mention the POE
02:18 PM Roguish: roycroft, do you have copies of the codes??? check out this. https://public.resource.org/
02:19 PM Roguish: codes are public. ought to be free, but the publishers like to charge fortunes for 'em.
02:19 PM XXCoder: indeed
02:20 PM XXCoder: I dont know why its allowed to lock codes behind copyright and stuff
02:21 PM XXCoder: picture police giving you ticket for speeding saying "sorry but speeding law is not publicly readable, you will need to pay $100 to read driving laws"
02:21 PM Roguish: I found that website and organization a bunch of years ago. got copies of practically all the Cal codes....
02:21 PM XXCoder: nice link btw
02:23 PM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc#0> I have a friend in legal... it'd be interesting to see laws in git with blame and history...
02:23 PM Roguish: sometimes ya just gotta search the shit out of it..... ya can usually find ANYTHING on the web....
02:23 PM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc#0> Its been a debated topic for some time
02:24 PM Roguish: here, wanna buy some software? https://warezstore.com/
02:24 PM XXCoder: that would be awesome. I remember that time law was somehow changed between house and senate. git would have shown who changed it
02:25 PM XXCoder: it was minor change that left small hole in policy coverage of some kind but yeah
02:26 PM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc#0> my little community is voting to become a village... would be interesting to see if we can start our bylaws in git right from the beginning
02:37 PM roycroft: in our national government, and for many state governments, you can track the legislative history of a bill from introduction to final disposition, including all amendments
02:38 PM roycroft: they don't use git, but the standard method of showing the original with strikethroughs and bolded additions
02:38 PM roycroft: it's not hard to find the diffs
02:39 PM lcnc-relay: <satiowadahc#0> but is it easy?
02:39 PM XXCoder: roy yeah usually. nearly all has it. it was one odd event that I menioned. it was quite a bit ago though
02:39 PM XXCoder: 90s?
02:44 PM XXCoder: anyway at end they couldnt figure who changed it
02:54 PM JT-Cave: Perhaps a better phrase than "Removed from version
02:54 PM JT-Cave: 2.9" would be "Removed since version 2.9."?
02:54 PM JT-Cave: dunno why he thinks one is better than the other?
02:54 PM XXCoder: yeah sounds better
02:55 PM JT-Cave: which one?
02:55 PM XXCoder: since latter impiles that it will remain not added
02:55 PM JT-Cave: that makes sense
02:55 PM XXCoder: former is little more amgious
02:55 PM JT-Cave: gotcha
02:55 PM JT-Cave: thanks for the feedback
02:55 PM XXCoder: welcome
03:36 PM lcnc-relay: <JT (@jt-shop:matrix.org)> https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/v1/download/matrix.org/qOdhrnbjnKPozSjugicGaLZd
03:38 PM roycroft: autocad can be annoying, and i don't use it often enough these days to remember all the annoyances
03:38 PM roycroft: i needed to draw an arc. i have two points on the arc, and the arc radius, but not the centerpoint of the arc
03:38 PM XXCoder: best way to remember annoyances is to use it
03:39 PM roycroft: i thought i could make point point radius work somehow, but i could not
03:39 PM roycroft: then i tried a pline, with point, point, arc radius
03:39 PM roycroft: and it worked exactly as i needed
03:39 PM roycroft: seems that should be part of the arc command though
03:42 PM XXCoder: did you see that new unlisted chris video?
03:42 PM XXCoder: just starting to watch it
03:45 PM roycroft: no, i'm pretty busy these days
03:48 PM XXCoder: ok. its definitely interesting. no spoilers
03:49 PM roycroft: i'll check it out when i can, thanks
03:49 PM XXCoder: np
03:52 PM Roguish: XXCoder, got a link for that video???
03:52 PM XXCoder: sorry no, for patreons only for now
03:52 PM XXCoder: it will evenually be public
05:09 PM XXCoder: https://youtu.be/5mH82OA0xbo why. 11:00 they are putting engine in vehicle
05:10 PM XXCoder: and engine is running
05:12 PM Leeloo: Are they at least adding something nice to that new library format? :)
05:12 PM Leeloo: OH, wait, wrong channel - never mind.
05:13 PM XXCoder: :)
05:16 PM JT-Shop: the Kubota starts better than it ever has since I bought it
05:17 PM XXCoder: nice
06:07 PM * JT-Cave calls it a day
06:07 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> what did you do today? I powered up the mazitrol and charged the memory battery so I don't lose the config...
06:15 PM bjorkintosh: <skunkworks8841> programming in G-Code for the Mazak?
06:22 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> the only way I have seen the mazak run is through it conversational.. (dad was really good at it)
06:23 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> so - I am going to have to learn it at some point lol
06:24 PM Tom_L: pita
06:24 PM Tom_L: we had one that was conversational
06:34 PM bjorkintosh: oh fun.
06:34 PM bjorkintosh: I used to program those.
06:35 PM bjorkintosh: I don't know how to program a mazak without their proprietary software.
06:35 PM XXCoder: sounds like a form of cad that doesnt require 3d modeling first
06:36 PM XXCoder: **cam
06:36 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v1/download/jauriarts.org/uEXBmIlVZcyszWWKeXvdlwTO
06:36 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> x axis home...
06:36 PM XXCoder: making progress. nice
06:52 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> https://jauriarts.org/_matrix/media/v1/download/jauriarts.org/budyCjxYRghuwatxRVAQImly
06:52 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> 3D printing is cool
06:54 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> machining design vs 3dprinted design
08:15 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> Yep
08:16 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I do still have to kill the hole in the bottom
08:16 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> That let's you turn the servo by hand
08:17 PM lcnc-relay: <skunkworks8841> I would like it slightly bigger
08:21 PM roycroft: the house situation is going to be tough
08:21 PM roycroft: the city planner recommended that i add on to the existing shop instead of building another one, and it actually makes sense
08:22 PM roycroft: but the existing shop has a zoning violation, which i do not need to remedy, but an extension would have to conform to current zoning rules
08:22 PM roycroft: i think i can make it work
08:22 PM roycroft: the city planner is allowed a 10% variance without going to the planning commission, and with that 10% taken into account, i'm off by 4 inches
08:23 PM roycroft: the fence may be 4 inches on my would-be property, and not right on the property line
08:23 PM * roycroft was afraid things would be this tight, and is not enjoying it
09:37 PM roycroft: paul roman has left the building :(
09:37 PM roycroft: he's the founder of fine woodworking magazine
09:37 PM roycroft: or was
09:38 PM XXCoder: wow I remember reading a couple of those
09:38 PM XXCoder: it had cool ideas that poor me couldnt even begin to
09:39 PM roycroft: i've been reading it since issue #1, and have every issue since #1
09:40 PM roycroft: i bought it from the news stand in the early years, but i've been a subscriber for 30+ years
09:40 PM roycroft: there's always someting interesting and stimulating in every issue
10:19 PM solarwind: surprisingly, lucas red n tacky is the only grease that doesn't seem to destroy the shitty rubber plungers used in syringes
10:19 PM solarwind: even super lube teflon grease dissolves the plunger
10:20 PM solarwind: red n tacky isn't anything special. It's good stuff, but I don't think it's synthetic oil. Interesting
11:05 PM roycroft: i don't see a new video from clickspring
11:06 PM XXCoder: its patreon only for now
11:06 PM roycroft: december 30 of last year is the latest one on petron
11:06 PM roycroft: patreon
11:06 PM XXCoder: odd
11:06 PM roycroft: i haven't gotten emails from him in a long time, but i've confirmed that i am a current patron
11:06 PM XXCoder: it shows in my patreon feed
11:07 PM XXCoder: posted 21 hours ago
11:08 PM roycroft: does he have multiple patreon accounts or something?
11:08 PM XXCoder: tiers, "all members" dont show the video
11:08 PM XXCoder: "the wheels" is minium tier to get it
11:09 PM XXCoder: mine is the pinions
11:09 PM roycroft: oh
11:10 PM roycroft: i have a number of patreon subscriptions
11:10 PM roycroft: i'm not being cheap - i'm spreading it around
11:10 PM roycroft: i can wait
11:10 PM XXCoder: "the pinions" isnt very expensive at $3 a month, it was best tier for me
11:11 PM XXCoder: next one ups is $30 a month
11:12 PM roycroft: i tend to do $1/month memberships, so i can do more
11:14 PM XXCoder: you should be able to see it in feed since the wheels is minium for it
11:14 PM XXCoder: the wheels is $1
11:14 PM roycroft: i cancelled my patreon of dave stanton a while back because i was not watching him much
11:14 PM roycroft: i hope that's not why he quit doing his show :P
11:14 PM XXCoder: lol
11:15 PM roycroft: wheels is early access to patreon series videos
11:15 PM roycroft: pinion is early access to patreon series and general youtube videos
11:16 PM roycroft: so i would guess that one you're taking about is a "general youtube" video
11:17 PM XXCoder: hmm I checked posts by tier and the wheels did show the video
11:17 PM roycroft: weird
11:17 PM XXCoder: https://www.patreon.com/clickspring/posts
11:18 PM XXCoder: oh im wrong
11:18 PM XXCoder: yeah it doesnt show in the wheels. im an idiot sorry lol
11:18 PM roycroft: good
11:18 PM roycroft: i'm glad you're the idiot
11:18 PM roycroft: otherwise i would be :)
11:18 PM XXCoder: :)
11:18 PM roycroft: 'cuz it ain't there for me
11:19 PM XXCoder: I think when I was clicking thewheel I misclicked or something so it still showed video
11:19 PM * roycroft is patient, and can wait 'til next month for it
11:22 PM XXCoder: look forward to it. it was fun one
