04:48 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:03 AM Tom_L: morning
05:06 AM Tom_L: 5°F High 21°F
05:40 AM JT-Cave: same here
06:28 AM JT-Cave: did you look at the scale calculation code?
07:05 AM Tom_L: i was actually looking for the error box code for it
07:31 AM JT-Cave: error box?
07:36 AM Tom_L: i wasn't able to make heads or tails of the code anyway :)
07:38 AM JT-Cave: what is this error box you speak of?
07:38 AM Tom_L: on the calculator if you push "Copy To" without selecting a target the Error box says "Select a Joint to copy to"
07:38 AM Tom_L: i just thought it should say Drive instead of Joint
07:38 AM Tom_L: since you changed those tabs
07:40 AM JT-Cave: https://github.com/jethornton/mesact/blob/2.1.1/mesact/src/libmesact/axes.py#L7
07:40 AM Tom_L: but i found out the box comes from dialogs.py but still couldn't find it other than erroMsgOk
07:41 AM Tom_L: so that would be hard to change since you didn't change the reference to Joint in the code itself
07:42 AM Tom_L: oh i see now. :)
07:47 AM Tom_L: what is the ':' at the end of an if line? is that like an .or. or an .and. statement?
07:48 AM Tom_L: ie line 8 & 9 there
07:55 AM JT-Cave: the : is the termination char for an if, elif, else
07:55 AM Tom_L: oh
07:57 AM Tom_L: python is weird
07:57 AM JT-Cave: lol
07:57 AM JT-Cave: https://www.w3resource.com/python/python-if-else-statements.php
07:57 AM Tom_L: the if ahs it after the code. the else has it after the else: and not after the code
07:57 AM JT-Cave: https://www.w3resource.com/python/python-for-loop.php
07:57 AM JT-Cave: https://www.w3resource.com/python/python-while-loop.php
07:57 AM JT-Cave: the : is just after the test expression
07:58 AM Tom_L: i tried a little oops and never could really catch on to it
07:58 AM JT-Cave: I don't do oop
07:58 AM Tom_L: clipper went oops after dos and i abandoned it
07:59 AM JT-Cave: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/64021237/python-procedural-or-object-oriented
07:59 AM Tom_L: they did come up with a windoz version of it and i tried it and got a ways but wasn't able to do some things with it i could do in dos
08:00 AM Tom_L: i pre'fill alot of forms based on previous input data etc and never could figure that out
08:00 AM JT-Cave: did you get an email from jet?
08:00 AM Tom_L: i dunno, haven't checked email yet
08:02 AM Tom_L: niece's 6th birthday party (skating) is at 11
08:02 AM JT-Cave: it's cold enough to skate
08:03 AM Tom_L: funny, as a kid i learned on ice
08:03 AM Tom_L: so i prefer inlines over quads
08:04 AM Tom_L: both kids have carbon fiber inlines
08:04 AM Tom_L: got a JET email :)
08:05 AM * JT-Cave starts his chicken day
01:14 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen

03:59 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcoder> https://tenor.com/view/chicken-dance-disco-gif-14972792
03:59 PM roycroft: well i found some 5/8"-11 threaded rod which worked perfectly for the handle core, and i also found some 1" dom which will work for the bushing, so i think i should have the metal part of the handle done today
03:59 PM XXCoder: nice
03:59 PM Tom_L: i thought the thread was 3/8
03:59 PM roycroft: and if i get my shop tidied up enough i might even be able to start on the wooden sleeves
03:59 PM roycroft: it is
03:59 PM Tom_L: gonna make it bigger?
03:59 PM roycroft: i turned the ends of the threaded rod down to 3/8" and tapped them
03:59 PM Tom_L: ahh
03:59 PM roycroft: er, threaded them
04:00 PM Tom_L: i got it :)
04:00 PM roycroft: which gives the balls a nice shoulder stop anyway
04:00 PM Tom_L: use loctite so they don't drop on your toe :)
04:00 PM roycroft: yeah, i do plan on doing that
04:00 PM roycroft: probably loctite blue
04:00 PM roycroft: i do need to be able to remove them without much hassle
04:01 PM roycroft: but i don't want them performing any self-removal maneuvers
04:03 PM Tom_L: i don't have a full die set but occasionally will get one i need
04:05 PM lcnc-relay: <ɹǝpoɔxx> test to ensure nothing special on lcnc, ignore this
04:05 PM Tom_L: i won't!
04:05 PM Tom_L: isn't that cute
04:05 PM Tom_L: upside down
04:06 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcoder> testing unicode stuff to ensure it works fine. bridging now uses display names, and irc nicks show properly now
04:06 PM lcnc-relay: <TurBoss> 🥳
04:06 PM lcnc-relay: <JT (@jt-shop:matrix.org)> Test
04:06 PM lcnc-relay: <TurBoss> 🎊
04:07 PM Tom_L: not all those go thru
05:58 PM jdh: Should 'apt-get install linuxcnc' also install the rtai kernel?
06:03 PM Tom_L: i know with wheezy it was part of the iso but i'm not sure about the new one
06:04 PM Tom_L: linuxcnc_2.9.2_amd64.deb that one listed for RTAI may
06:04 PM Tom_L: http://linuxcnc.org/downloads/
06:05 PM Tom_L: it also lists the kernel there too so it's hard to say honestly
06:07 PM Tom_L: linux-image-5.4.258-rtai-amd64_5.4.258-rtai-amd64-2_amd64.deb may just be the OS then the one above it for linuxcnc the install for it
06:07 PM Tom_L: on that page
06:08 PM Tom_L: i haven't tried those
11:35 PM roycroft: i got all the machining work done on my handle today, but it took so long i did not have time to tidy up the shop and set up the wood lathe
11:36 PM XXCoder: doh. well sounds like it was great shop day
11:36 PM roycroft: it was not fun, but it was productive
11:36 PM roycroft: i fought for a long time with the carbide insert tool on the lathe
11:36 PM roycroft: finally i gave up on that and went and ground a hss tool and things went a lot better
11:37 PM roycroft: i needed a 3" long bushing and i thought i had a piece of dom that would work, but the od of the dom was 1" and i needed 1.090"
11:38 PM roycroft: the only round bar i had that was big enough was 3", so i had to do a *lot* of turning to get it to size
11:39 PM roycroft: but i have a nice handle now, and the screw spins up and down very smoothly and easily, even though i've not lubricated it yet
