04:34 AM JT-Cave: morning
04:57 AM lcnc-relay: <travis_farmer (@_discord_731083529441640538:jauriarts.org)> Morning 🙂 26F/47F
06:19 AM Guest25: Hi guys. Good morning to you you all from east coast.
06:20 AM Guest25: I am getting into the cnc and wanted to see if it is possible to probe a part in order to create a cad file for further processing. I wanted to copy some spare parts for my car.
06:21 AM Guest25: Can it be done with Linux and and probes?
06:21 AM Guest25: Linuxcnc*
06:25 AM CaptHindsight: yes LCNC can probe parts
06:27 AM CaptHindsight: it can even use cameras to do so https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mBQwIzaiaQ
06:28 AM Guest25: I got a milling machine and still deciding on what to do. But the important part is to be able to copy parts for the car. So that is why I am asking
06:28 AM Guest25: Cool man I started watching those videos now
06:40 AM Guest25: I got disconnected so I case it did not make it. Here is what I wrote before:
06:41 AM Guest25: Look cool 😎. Is it still maintained
06:41 AM Guest25: Can Linux cnc do probing with other probes?
06:49 AM oni81: Hi guys I reconnected from irc client now
06:49 AM oni81: Previously I was asking if I can use linuxcnc for part probing for car parts
06:50 AM oni81: And someone helped with a video of a probing video using Linux cnc some cameras and a mechanical probe
06:50 AM oni81: Is that setup still maintained
06:51 AM oni81: Is any way to use other probes
06:51 AM oni81: Any howto to use other probes or tutorials on How to map 3d parts
06:52 AM JT-Cave: rooster just crowed
07:42 AM Tom_L: depends on the car model
07:44 AM acer is now known as _unreal_
09:15 AM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
09:37 AM bjorkintosh: CaptHindsight> it can even use cameras to do so ... Wat??
09:37 AM bjorkintosh: who did that??
10:06 AM roycroft: it's friday!
10:06 AM Roguish: good morning. a bit chilly here, but dry...
10:06 AM roycroft: cool and rainy here
10:06 AM JT-Shop_: same here
10:06 AM Roguish: hey roycroft. did you find a new place yet?
10:06 AM roycroft: but the deluge begins in earnest tomorrow
10:06 AM roycroft: no
10:07 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
10:07 AM roycroft: i'm going to look at the one i'm interested in again tomorrow
10:07 AM JT-Shop: house?
10:07 AM roycroft: i'm looking at three places tomorrow, actually
10:07 AM roycroft: yes
10:09 AM Roguish: well, good luck.
10:10 AM JT-Shop: https://youtu.be/RTR9Y9DZNJ4?list=PLB00JHoTw1TeX82Qw8hoFLRJI89Us_jMw&t=1507
10:11 AM roycroft: thanks
10:11 AM roycroft: i'll need it in this market
10:11 AM JT-Shop: I thought the way that lady did the lettering is cool
10:13 AM roycroft: i am confused today
10:13 AM bjorkintosh: https://i.imgur.com/mJ9Q6m5.mp4
10:13 AM roycroft: when i got up this morning i discovered that my cat had been trapped in my garage all night
10:13 AM roycroft: but i hadn't been out to the garage since yesterday afternoon, and my cat was in the living room yesterday evening
10:13 AM roycroft: how she got into the garage i have no idea
10:14 AM JT-Shop: you sure it's the same cat?
10:14 AM roycroft: from her perspective it was a major calamity
10:14 AM roycroft: it is
10:14 AM roycroft: she has a very distinct whine :)
10:15 AM roycroft: and she is quite upset with me
10:15 AM roycroft: somehow this is my fault
10:15 AM JT-Shop: our cats have ear mites... what fun that is to treat
10:21 AM CloudEvil: Is there water in there?
11:03 AM roycroft: faux news are slowly erecting a paywall on their website, so i guess i'll have to find a new source of right-wing not-totally-extreme-wingnutty perspectives on things
11:04 AM roycroft: that may prove difficult, as the alternatives that i know of are quite extreme
11:05 AM roycroft: or maybe i'll just skip that perspective, and see if i'm better off without it
11:33 AM roycroft: i'm back to thinking about how to best fixture parts vertically in my shaper workstation
11:33 AM roycroft: and how to fixture small parts horizontally in a cnc router
11:34 AM roycroft: and even whether building one large-ish cnc router is the right thing for me, when i have more shop space, or whether i should build a really large one and a small one
11:34 AM roycroft: if i get more shop space, then it makes sense to build a cnc router that can handle full sheets, instead of the 1/4 sheet one i've been designing
11:35 AM roycroft: but much of the cnc work will probably be on some rather small parts, so maybe starting with a tiny cnc router would be best, and then bulding the big one later
11:35 AM bjorkintosh: roycroft, the balanced view is the faux news slogan :-)
11:35 AM CloudEvil: Diddn't they change that?
11:36 AM roycroft: bjorkintosh: faux news are rather centrist in the current right wing world
11:36 AM roycroft: they haven't moved one bit towards the center
11:36 AM roycroft: but the wingnuts have moved much farther to the extreme
11:37 AM bjorkintosh: it's all in the name of adverti$ing $$$
11:37 AM bjorkintosh: in all commercial media, the ads are *the* content.
11:37 AM roycroft: there's a bit of that going on with the left as well, but left wing wingnuttery is not nearly as widespread as the right wing equivalent
11:37 AM bjorkintosh: everything else is filler.
11:37 AM bjorkintosh: people call what they content, and call the ads, ads. it's the other way around.
11:38 AM bjorkintosh: *view
11:38 AM bjorkintosh: or consume.
11:38 AM roycroft: yes, that's a big part of it - the "news" media need to keep the battle raging for ratings/revenue purposes
11:38 AM bjorkintosh: it is all to sell content. the ads are the content.
11:38 AM roycroft: civil discourse doesn't genereate money
11:41 AM bjorkintosh: Peace time is a serious depression for iron mongers ... you know, weapons manufacturers.
11:44 AM roycroft: so are there any small cnc router packages out there that can easily be plugged into a linuxcnc controller?
11:44 AM roycroft: just buying a turn-key machine might be my best route
11:45 AM roycroft: but i would rather not have to deal with mach or other proprietary control software
11:58 AM jpa-: roycroft: tormach, kind-of; they have their own pathpilot gui and some other extensions on top of basic linuxcnc
12:03 PM roycroft: yeah, i know their control software is linuxcnc-based
12:03 PM roycroft: i think what would be ideal for me is a machine that starts at the stepper/servo drives
12:04 PM roycroft: er, motors
12:04 PM roycroft: and leaves the drivers and all the control logic to me
12:04 PM roycroft: there's probably some stuff on alibaba like that
12:04 PM roycroft: some of which may actually be useful
12:07 PM roycroft: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/TWOTREES-OEM-CNC-3018-Pro-Wood_1700003250145.html
12:07 PM roycroft: something like that, but of better quality, is what i'm thinking about
12:07 PM roycroft: 8000rpm max spindle speed on that machine is unacceptable
12:12 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> good luck with anything like that
12:12 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> a decent spidle will run you at least 800
12:14 PM roycroft: i'm using a $300 80mm water-cooled spindle on my router table right now, and it works fine
12:14 PM roycroft: it's 2.2kw - i don't need a really powerful motor for a small machine
12:14 PM Rab: roycroft, IIRC Loetmichel is using a chinese cheapie for commercial production...you could ask him for details
12:15 PM roycroft: yeah, he'd be a good person to talk to about it
12:15 PM roycroft: he has frugality down to a science
12:15 PM Rab: There are a lot of grades of the same basic design. Acme vs ballscrews, etc.
12:16 PM Rab: The really cheap ones are made from PVC plate.
12:16 PM roycroft: i'd like decent resolution
12:16 PM roycroft: but i'll be machining wood for the most part
12:16 PM roycroft: not jet engine parts
12:17 PM bjorkintosh: Yet.
12:18 PM roycroft: i don't intend to ever do that
12:18 PM roycroft: but if i do i'll tool up for it
12:22 PM Rab: This is probably representative of a reasonable price/performance delta: https://www.amazon.com/PIAOCAIYIN-Router-Axis-Cnc-6040/dp/B0C4LJFLRK
12:22 PM Rab: 15x24 table, ballscrews, round rails but at least they're supported.
12:24 PM Rab: I have a negative view of unsupported rails. Even with low cutting forces, spindles get heavy and they will sag and bounce around.
12:27 PM Rab: Very rudimentary control box, it has "parakkel port" interface so it might work directly with LinuxCNC with no additional hardware.
12:27 PM roycroft: 390x600 is about the size i'd be looking at
12:27 PM roycroft: i could go with something a little smaller, but not much bigger
12:28 PM roycroft: 120z is ine
12:28 PM roycroft: fine
12:28 PM Rab: So that's the kind of stuff to look for. Some have a USB controller designed for Mach3 which won't work at all with LinuxCNC, you would need to tap directly into the drivers after the controller.
12:28 PM roycroft: usb3 is right out
12:29 PM roycroft: i think the vertical work i need to do right now i can do with the shaper origin
12:29 PM Rab: Often these are available with various combinations of options. So you can upgrade the platform with e.g. ballscrews or strip it down to leave off control box or accessories.
12:29 PM roycroft: so that requirement is not needed on the full cnc router, at least not now
12:29 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> you can go cheap, but you are just trading time since cheap machines can only remove a very limited amount of material (even in wood) and you end up hating your CNC because everything takes 10x longer than doing a manual process. just my 0.02
12:30 PM roycroft: i'll mostly be doing engraving and mortising of small parts
12:30 PM roycroft: performance is not a big issue, since i'll be doing light cuts anyway
12:30 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> why not just get a pantorouter
12:31 PM roycroft: when i build the full-sheet router i'll want some decent performance
12:31 PM roycroft: a pantorouter won't do what i need to do
12:31 PM roycroft: i can do it with my shaper origin, but i'd like something a little more automated
12:31 PM roycroft: so i can mount 4 parts at a time and let it machine all of them while i do something else
12:32 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> good luck finding a super budget machine you can actually walk away from.
12:32 PM roycroft: it doesn't need to be super budget
12:32 PM roycroft: just budget :)
12:32 PM roycroft: i'm not looking for something that's free
12:32 PM roycroft: and cost is not my primary consideration
12:32 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> you'll figure it out, experience is better than people on IRC telling you random stuff.
12:32 PM roycroft: yes
12:33 PM roycroft: although i like to get input from people on irc telling me random stuff
12:33 PM roycroft: i know how to process that information appropriately
12:34 PM roycroft: i have the control end done already, at least on a breadboard
12:34 PM roycroft: up to and including the gecko drives
12:34 PM roycroft: if i had the machine it self i could plug my controller in and get it working today
12:35 PM Rab: Your process should integrate that I have never owned one of those machines and wouldn't buy one, but my needs are somewhat different. ;)
12:35 PM roycroft: it already does, rab
12:35 PM roycroft: i assumed the former, the middle bit is irrelevant, and i know the latter
12:37 PM roycroft: that does not mean that you can't contribute valuable information
12:37 PM roycroft: it just means that i have to build an appropriate filter for your input
12:37 PM roycroft: as with everyone else's
12:39 PM Unterhausen: what is the status of your mill?
12:40 PM roycroft: it's sitting where it lives
12:41 PM roycroft: converting it to cnc is no longer a high priority
12:41 PM roycroft: and if i buy this new house with the bigger shop i'll probably end up purchasing a bridgeport class mill, which i may or may not convert to cnc
12:42 PM Unterhausen: I wish I had room for a manual mill
12:42 PM Unterhausen: my mill is still inop
12:42 PM roycroft: maybe i'll buy the bridgeport class machine and keep it manual, and finally get the mill/drill converted to cnc, as i anticipate i'd mostly be making small parts with the cnc machine
12:43 PM roycroft: getting more shop space is really the priority
12:44 PM roycroft: while i have the tools and machines that i need, i cannot generate revenue with my current shop setup because i have to spend more time moving things around than making parts
12:44 PM roycroft: i would lose money trying to make things commercially in it
12:44 PM roycroft: and leasing industrial space around here is ridiculous
12:44 PM roycroft: the more vacant buildings that appear, the higher the cost of leasing space
12:44 PM roycroft: it's the opposite to how the market normally works
12:45 PM roycroft: so that's why i'm considering moving
12:45 PM roycroft: if i buy a house with 3x the shop space in an area where i can work out of the shop, that is my best avenue
12:46 PM roycroft: besides, i'm getting tired of unhoused folks trespassing, vandalizing things, and being a general nuisance
12:46 PM roycroft: so moving out of town where they don't hang out would be of benefit
12:48 PM Roguish: roy, wanna buy a BP series II, already linuxncn'd ???
12:49 PM Roguish: 5500 lbs, 4hp 3phase spindle
12:49 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> i love my 3/4 BP clone
12:50 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> i don't think i'd ever fully cnc it
12:50 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> it is just a great manual machine, pleasure to use
12:51 PM roycroft: not right now, but maybe, roguish
12:51 PM roycroft: i don't have room for it
12:51 PM skunkworks: I have no manual mills anymore.. So much easier to just program the motion...
12:58 PM roycroft: i don't do much milling on metal
12:58 PM roycroft: i'd like to be able to do some automated machining of non-ferrous metals, but it would be mostly bas relief, so a cnc router would be fine or that
12:59 PM roycroft: for right now all i need is room to walk around in my shop and not have to move 20 things before i can do a simple operation on a part
01:00 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> you should try to get time on a hackerspace machine so you get first hand experience. my guess is your expectorations on machining time are off.
01:03 PM roycroft: with all due respect, you don't have any idea at this point what my expectations are :)
01:04 PM skunkworks: lol
01:04 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> never change roycroft
01:04 PM Roguish: the House threw out George Santos.....
01:04 PM Roguish: lolol
01:04 PM roycroft: and i did join the local makerspace a while back
01:05 PM roycroft: but it's run by a person i've been dealing with and trying to avoid for 30 years
01:05 PM roycroft: the makerspace functions like everything else this person touches
01:05 PM roycroft: they have a lot of neat gear
01:05 PM roycroft: and none of it is functional, because this person likes to "tinker"
01:05 PM roycroft: i.e. take things apart and then walk away
01:06 PM skunkworks: lol - I am kinda the opposite.. I get things 'mostly working' then walk away..
01:06 PM roycroft: they had four 3d printers when i joined
01:07 PM roycroft: the "tinkerer" thought he could rebuild them and improve them
01:07 PM roycroft: so he make all four non-functional
01:07 PM roycroft: and then didn't have anything to use for printing parts to "improve" them
01:07 PM roycroft: the concept of "improving" one at a time is not something he can comprehend
01:08 PM roycroft: i quickly decided that my monthly dues were for naught, and disassociated myself from that group
01:09 PM roycroft: this person also does some it work for the country fair, but fortunately i was asked to do the it work i volunteered to in parallel with this other stuff
01:09 PM roycroft: so i don't have to deal with him or interact with his gear at all
01:11 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> surely there must be a human you can tolerate who has a machine you can get some time on...
01:12 PM roycroft: i'm pretty tolerant of most humans
01:12 PM roycroft: this one in particular is challenging for anyone to deal with
01:13 PM roycroft: but again, you don't know what my expectations are, so it's premature to state that i won't be satisfied with something i purchase/build
01:14 PM Unterhausen: getting things mostly working and then walking away is the sign of a true genius. That's my story anyway
01:14 PM Unterhausen: there are now two makerspaces in town, one run by penn state
01:15 PM roycroft: to clarify somewhat, i have no desire nor expectation of machining finished parts/products on this cnc router that i'm pondering
01:15 PM Unterhausen: I don't think I could get my wife to agree to the monthly price of the PSU makerspace though
01:16 PM roycroft: it would be for performing certain operations, but would not be used for the majority of the manufacturing process
01:16 PM roycroft: and the initial parts i would be machining on it really are very small
01:16 PM roycroft: i'm talking about mortises/slots 2.5mm wide, for example
01:17 PM roycroft: too small for a pantorouter to even work reasonably, even if i could fixture them for the pantorouter
01:18 PM skunkworks: we made some really cool finger-jointed recepie boxes on our router..
01:18 PM lcnc-relay: <schoch_> https://youtu.be/mSxCIMVJXOA?si=nuyJUmTinvpZJhcp
01:19 PM roycroft: i can make them at least as fast using my incra jig on my router table vs. using a cnc router for finger joints
01:20 PM roycroft: i haven't even tried the box joint addon to the shaper origin, because the router table makes more sense to me
01:22 PM skunkworks: How do you like the saper orgin? I get so many ads for that.
01:22 PM roycroft: and if i were making drawers/boxes with finger joints in production i'd build a table saw sled for it
01:22 PM skunkworks: shaper
01:22 PM roycroft: i love it, skunkworks
01:22 PM skunkworks: Neat
01:22 PM roycroft: it was well worth getting
01:23 PM roycroft: but this again has to do with expectations
01:23 PM roycroft: i suspect the primary market for the shaper origin is doctors/attorneys who like to play around in their garage on the weekend
01:23 PM roycroft: and it's a great product for them
01:23 PM roycroft: for production work, though, not so much
01:24 PM roycroft: but i bought it not to mass-produce parts, but to make jigs/fixtures that i would use to mass produce parts
01:24 PM roycroft: and it's a great tool for that
01:25 PM roycroft: it's also really useful for doing engraving/inlay work
01:25 PM skunkworks: sure
01:26 PM roycroft: i bought a refurbished model for $1k off the regular price (refurbished by shaper, and with a warranty), but it would have been worth getting even at full price
03:28 PM JT-Shop: Some common domestic hardwoods will bend with
03:28 PM JT-Shop: great success. Based on air-dried 1" thick stock at 25%
03:28 PM JT-Shop: moisture content going into the steam box
03:29 PM JT-Shop: hmm
03:29 PM JT-Shop: https://youtu.be/bgDSgSiP7P8?list=PLB00JHoTw1TeX82Qw8hoFLRJI89Us_jMw&t=2055
03:37 PM roycroft: walnut bends well, as does cherry and ash
03:37 PM JT-Shop: good to know
03:37 PM roycroft: oak not so much
03:37 PM roycroft: and maple can be iffy
03:38 PM roycroft: big leaf maple generally bends better than sugar (hard) maple
03:38 PM JT-Shop: the Veritas manual says white oak bends the smallest radius
03:38 PM roycroft: white oak bends better than red oak
03:38 PM JT-Shop: Oak (red and white)2"
03:38 PM JT-Shop: Hickory2"
03:38 PM JT-Shop: Elm2"
03:38 PM JT-Shop: Walnut3"
03:38 PM JT-Shop: Ash4.5"
03:38 PM JT-Shop: Cherry*6"
03:38 PM roycroft: but i've had problems with bending white oak
03:38 PM JT-Shop: Maple**8"
03:39 PM roycroft: ash bends much more easily in my experience
03:39 PM JT-Shop: are you using a strap to prevent the wood from trying to expand on the outside of the bend?
03:39 PM roycroft: it depends on what i'm doing, but for thick ( 2/4 or thicker) wood, yes
03:40 PM JT-Shop: air dried and at 25%?
03:40 PM roycroft: most thick woods will splinter on the outside when steam bent
03:40 PM roycroft: sometimes
03:40 PM roycroft: mostly the woods are a bit more dry than that
03:40 PM roycroft: it can be hard to find wood at 25% unless you mill it yourself
03:40 PM JT-Shop: my stock is at ~8% so wondering how to raise the moisture up
03:40 PM roycroft: at least around here
03:41 PM roycroft: you can soak it in water for a while before putting it in the steamer
03:41 PM Tom_L: do tight grain woods bend easier?
03:41 PM roycroft: but it would take a long time to get wood that dry up to 25% in the center
03:41 PM Tom_L: kinda what that shows above
03:41 PM JT-Shop: I saw a video where the chap stored the wood in a pvc pipe full of water
03:42 PM XXCoder: sounds like good idea, since pvc wont decay across long soak
03:42 PM XXCoder: I wonder if heating water would increase intake speed.
03:42 PM XXCoder: if so, maybe pvc pipes in black in sun
03:42 PM roycroft: i'm going to be doing a lot of bending, but of thin strips
03:42 PM Tom_L: heat or pressure
03:42 PM roycroft: i'm going to start making some shaker oval boxes, which use bent wood
03:43 PM XXCoder: considering its pvc you can do both honestly.
03:43 PM XXCoder: not massive pressure but yeah
03:43 PM roycroft: but the strips are very thin, and are soaked in hot water for 20 minutes, not usually steamed
03:43 PM JT-Shop: if you can have 4psi it raises up the temp quite a bit
03:43 PM Tom_L: get some schedule 80 and you can pump it up
03:43 PM roycroft: my steamer is a piece of 6" abs drain pipe
03:44 PM roycroft: i steam wood in that just fine, but not under pressure
03:44 PM JT-Shop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pPKUgpn0CI
03:50 PM roycroft: well i'm so glad i didn't watch that video a long time ago, because i bent a bunch of port orford cedar a few years ago into fairly tight semi-circles
03:50 PM roycroft: and now i found out that it can't be done
03:50 PM JT-Shop: there's always exceptions
03:51 PM roycroft: i like dave engels a lot, btw
03:51 PM roycroft: hs is one of my favorite youtube channels
03:51 PM JT-Shop: me too
03:52 PM roycroft: his table saw, and the way he uses it, still scares me a lot
03:52 PM roycroft: but he can still count to ten on his fingers
03:52 PM Tom_L: not 9 1/2?
03:52 PM XXCoder: using binary system? ;)
04:04 PM JT-Shop: gotta leave at 7am in the morning to be in the Saint Genevieve xmas parade
04:06 PM roycroft: one would almost think dave's done this a few times before
04:06 PM XXCoder: nice. at waytooearly am
04:07 PM JT-Shop: I can only imagine that Dave has bent a lot of wagon bows...
04:07 PM XXCoder: and sleds. saw one in suggested
04:08 PM JT-Shop: yeah sled runners would be steam bent I assume
04:08 PM JT-Shop: getting out early is worth it to be part of the parade and maybe inspire someone
04:09 PM roycroft: i just got a shipment of shaker box tacks
04:09 PM roycroft: there's a guy in michigan who has a 100-plus year old tack making machine, and makes the copper tacks with it by hand
04:09 PM roycroft: it's pretty cool to get hardware made that way
04:10 PM JT-Shop: I work on 100+ year old wood working equipment
04:11 PM roycroft: btw, the festool community have discovered that video of the antique mortising machine that we were talking about here the other day
04:11 PM roycroft: and one of the first commments one of them made was "that's the pre-cursor to the domino machine"
04:11 PM roycroft: so i am not alone in making that observation
04:13 PM JT-Shop: back in the day when no machine existed you had to dream it up after that it's just improvements to the original idea
04:13 PM Roguish: JT-Shop, just signed up for a new 2024 Part D supplemental insurace. $0.40 / month
04:14 PM JT-Shop: pretty cheap
04:14 PM Roguish: after speaking with the insurance broker i've worked with for several years.
04:14 PM JT-Shop: I turned 70 back in October
04:14 PM Roguish: ooooold timer.
04:15 PM JT-Shop: don't feel like 70 lol
04:15 PM Roguish: i'm 68 in 3 weeks
04:15 PM JT-Shop: you're catching up
04:15 PM roycroft: i'm on a plan with part b and part d at no additional cost vs. the base +$490/quarter
04:15 PM Roguish: no offense, but I hope I don't catch up....
04:15 PM JT-Shop: lol
04:16 PM roycroft: i'm getting flooded with offers for a new plan, and i only have a few more days to pick one if i want
04:16 PM Roguish: also just signed up with Amazon Pharmacy
04:16 PM roycroft: but i'll probably stick with the one i have for another year
04:16 PM roycroft: it's worked out ok so far
04:16 PM roycroft: and if i do buy this house i'm looking at i'll have an excuse to change plans mid-year if i want
04:16 PM Roguish: 490 / quarter isn't too bad.
04:17 PM * roycroft just paid his bill
04:17 PM XXCoder: can definitely catch up, in percentage wise. when my bro was 4 and I was 1. my bro was 400% my age. now hes barely older at all.
04:17 PM roycroft: $494.70 every three months for part b and part d
04:17 PM Roguish: yeah, that ain't bad
04:17 PM Roguish: mine is about 160/month
04:18 PM roycroft: i have $35 co-pays to see my primary car physician
04:18 PM roycroft: yes, that's the same as mine
04:18 PM Roguish: wait 'til ya get on Medicare. it's sweek.
04:18 PM JT-Shop: odd that the rate depends on the state and county or parish you live in
04:18 PM Roguish: sweet
04:18 PM roycroft: i am on medicare
04:18 PM roycroft: i keep saying part b and part d
04:18 PM roycroft: that's medicare
04:18 PM Roguish: duh.
04:18 PM Roguish: brain fade
04:18 PM JT-Shop: lol
04:18 PM roycroft: you must be getting old :)
04:19 PM JT-Shop: rothflmas
04:19 PM Roguish: a good friend of mine is 65 today.....
04:19 PM roycroft: i did not have insurance for a few years before i was eligibile for medicare
04:19 PM roycroft: i used to get it through work, but my boss cancelled it one day because i "wasn't using it"
04:19 PM Roguish: an high end xray tech. make about 300k / year.
04:20 PM roycroft: i paid my own for a while, at about $400/month
04:20 PM roycroft: then obamacare showed up
04:20 PM roycroft: and my bill shot to over $1k/month
04:20 PM roycroft: but i made too much to be eligible for the obamacare subsidies
04:20 PM roycroft: so i ended up dropping it and started the countdown until i turned 65
04:20 PM Roguish: before medicare, my monthly premium was around $1500
04:20 PM roycroft: fortunately nothing major happened during that period
04:21 PM Roguish: personal, not company
04:21 PM roycroft: except i had an injury right after my boss dropped my insurance, and before he told me he had dropped it
04:21 PM roycroft: that ended up costing me $15k
04:21 PM roycroft: yeah, obamacare had a big hole for people who made decent money but did not have work-provided insurance
04:22 PM roycroft: i fell in that hole
04:22 PM Roguish: just before medicare, I had afib. the ablation was about 300k retail.
04:22 PM Roguish: about 5k out of pocket
04:23 PM Roguish: I have a monthly asthma shot that retails about 8k per shot
04:23 PM Roguish: 0 on medicare part B
04:23 PM XXCoder: wouldnt be surpsed if it cost company around $10 to make that shot.
04:24 PM Roguish: XXCoder, nah, no way.
04:24 PM Roguish: oh, 10 buck. yeah, probably
04:37 PM Unterhausen: fusion 360 suffering a major price increase. They might have to make it work for that much
04:38 PM * JT-Shop avoids any software that "phones home" or is cloud based
04:38 PM XXCoder: yeah heard of that. glad I dont use fusion
04:51 PM roycroft: i avoid that stuff too
04:51 PM roycroft: and as someone was asking about the shaper origin earlier i meant to add a bit
04:52 PM roycroft: i had struggles with a good workflow to get files to the origin at first
04:52 PM roycroft: i use solidworks and autocad, and neither export svgs
04:52 PM roycroft: i had some funky workflows that i put up with involving inkscape and illustrator as translators
04:52 PM roycroft: but then i bought cut2d, which exports svgs that the origin likes
04:53 PM roycroft: and that made the origin much more useful
04:53 PM roycroft: there is an official fusion360 plugin for the origin, but that requires using fusion360, which i cannot do for the above mentioned reasons that jt stated
04:54 PM * JT-Shop just dumped a sack of coal slag in the blast cabinet... might finish the repair of the hollywood rack sunday
04:54 PM roycroft: i also just found a solidworks script that will convert a selected flat object to an svg that the origin likdes
04:54 PM * roycroft would not know where to find coal around here if his life depended on it
04:55 PM JT-Shop: blasting media is coal slag
04:55 PM roycroft: aah
04:55 PM JT-Shop: most hardware stores carry it
04:55 PM roycroft: i don't use that for blasting
04:56 PM roycroft: i use aluminium oxide, walnut shells, and glass bead
04:56 PM JT-Shop: mixed?
04:57 PM roycroft: no
04:57 PM perry_j1987: hey guys
04:57 PM roycroft: but those are the three media that i use
04:57 PM roycroft: i have a hand-held soda blaster as well
04:57 PM roycroft: but i don't use that very much
04:59 PM perry_j1987: the snow sure came in full force today. they said it was going to just rain instead of snow they previously had predicted lol
04:59 PM XXCoder: saw interesting one using dry ice
05:00 PM roycroft: holy moly
05:01 PM roycroft: 35mm of rain here tomorrow
05:01 PM roycroft: but i'm going to look at houses in oakridge tomorrow
05:01 PM XXCoder: my phone warned me of flood warning
05:01 PM roycroft: and they're supposed to get 62mm of rain
05:01 PM XXCoder: unlikely for tjis place as its higher point but yeah
05:01 PM roycroft: at least i'll be able to tell if any of the houses have leaky roofs :)
05:02 PM XXCoder: yeah
05:02 PM bjorkintosh: https://unitednuclear.com/high-voltage-c-27_90/crookes-tube-paddle-wheel-p-736.html
05:02 PM bjorkintosh: I know what I want for christmas.
05:21 PM roycroft: your two front teeth?
05:21 PM bjorkintosh: hahaha.
05:21 PM bjorkintosh: Close.
05:22 PM bjorkintosh: A Crooke's tube!
05:22 PM roycroft: you'll need some when that thing blows up in your face
05:22 PM roycroft: it might even put your eye out!
05:23 PM roycroft: that thing would actually make a pretty cool christmas tree ornament
05:24 PM bjorkintosh: there you go.
05:24 PM roycroft: the only problem is that when you feed it 10,000 volts it will attract the cats
05:25 PM roycroft: and i don't think attracting a cat to a 10,000 volt power source is generally wise
05:25 PM bjorkintosh: yes. unwisely specific.
05:48 PM perry_j1987: anyone have a link to what solenoid valve you're using for airblast/mist coolant
06:00 PM Roguish: vpn
06:00 PM Roguish: nrodes
06:00 PM Roguish: NR2023@Verdagy5!
06:00 PM Roguish: + MS account
06:00 PM Roguish: pdm vault
06:00 PM Roguish: un: nrodes
06:00 PM Roguish: pw: noelVerdagy
06:00 PM Roguish: gmail

06:00 PM Roguish: Click4Verdagy!
06:00 PM Roguish: Egnyte
06:00 PM Roguish: id
06:00 PM Roguish: pw
06:00 PM Roguish: that was weird.
06:00 PM Roguish: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0815WY9HJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
06:02 PM Roguish: disregard the giberish above
06:28 PM roycroft: what gibberish?
06:28 PM * roycroft did not see anything like that
06:37 PM Unterhausen: almost as good when I didn't notice a link I pasted was about 5 pages long
07:02 PM roycroft: so george santos has united america
07:02 PM roycroft: his expulsion vote today was one of the most bipartisan votes this house has taken
07:03 PM Roguish: hurrah
07:03 PM roycroft: he should be proud
07:03 PM XXCoder: he should be, what an achievement since that time he won ww2
07:05 PM roycroft: what are you talking about?
07:05 PM XXCoder: its joke related on how he bragged about stuff he had done but really didnt
07:05 PM roycroft: i mean, i know his granmother or something is a holocaust survivor, but according to our previous president, the current president is about to take us into wwii
07:06 PM roycroft: so that holocaust thing must have been in some other war
07:06 PM roycroft: i'm pretty sure santos won the spanish-american war
07:07 PM XXCoder: ah yes that too.
07:07 PM roycroft: by single-handedly shooting down all the spanish fighter blimps
07:08 PM roycroft: while he was playing badminton
07:08 PM Tom_L: with one hand tied behind his back?
07:08 PM roycroft: in drag
07:10 PM * roycroft heads to market for pizza fixin's
07:11 PM XXCoder: just had mcd meal today. it wasnt great
07:13 PM perry_j1987: man i want some pizza
07:14 PM perry_j1987: running the last batch of parts for the day now
07:36 PM roycroft: make some pizza then
08:01 PM Unterhausen: Santos took Tommy Flanagan on SNL as a role model. But mostly he's just a scammer
08:01 PM Unterhausen: that's the ticket
08:03 PM roycroft: prior to santos jim traficant was the last member of the house to be expelled, in 2002
08:03 PM roycroft: that was after traficant was convicted of 10 felonies, including bribery and tax evasion
08:04 PM roycroft: oddly, he was not convicted for his hair style, which was perhaps his most egregious offense
08:04 PM roycroft: but anyway, he ran for his former seat while in prison, but lost
08:04 PM roycroft: and after he was released from prison he ran himself over with a tractor on his farm
08:05 PM roycroft: if nothing else, one has to admit that this country has had some colorful politicians
08:07 PM XXCoder: like president that beat someone down with cane, then took fence there and placed it in memory of that beating
08:09 PM XXCoder: jackson. he was almost assassiated by someone, both pistals failed, and jackson beat on him with cane
08:10 PM Unterhausen: I bet more people have searched for Traficant in the last few days than have for a very long time
08:10 PM Tom_L: he had it coming
08:10 PM Tom_L: now they'd just cry brutality
08:10 PM Unterhausen: when I had my ankle surgery a year ago, I was disappointed I didn't end up needing granpa's cane
08:10 PM XXCoder: ll never support vigilate actions
08:11 PM Tom_L: may fall under the self defense category
08:11 PM roycroft: or a vice president killing a former treasury secretary in a duel
08:11 PM Unterhausen: I had dreams of shaking at people and telling them to get off my lawn
08:12 PM Unterhausen: although I don't think grandpa actually needed his cane. He somehow was a CEO of a large company and also suffered from schizophrenia
08:12 PM roycroft: i've never forgotten jim traficant
08:13 PM roycroft: if for no other reason that my friends always rail about how it's onll republicans who are corrupt
08:13 PM roycroft: only
08:13 PM Unterhausen: once you know of traficant, the hairstyle alone is unforgettable
08:13 PM roycroft: i have to constantly remind them of jim traficant
08:13 PM Unterhausen: New Jersey is proof of that.
08:13 PM roycroft: yes
08:13 PM Unterhausen: that's because it's difficult to get elected as a republican, so they are all democrats
08:14 PM roycroft: new jersey has a literal gold bricker as one of its senators
08:16 PM roycroft: but the house has a speaker who does not have a bank account and who has a mutual spying for pr0n pact with his son
08:16 PM roycroft: so there's all sorts of weird in our government
08:16 PM XXCoder: yeah montioring thing is weird
08:16 PM Unterhausen: I would say that in general, NJ just needs better PR. Red states are fully corrupt, but there is nobody there noticing
08:16 PM * roycroft decides not to mention a former vice president who refuses to be alone in a room with any woman other than his wife
08:17 PM XXCoder: man actionbox used to be great channel
08:17 PM XXCoder: nowdays meh
08:29 PM Unterhausen: I want to speak to the manager, the discord bridge is truncating my nick
08:30 PM roycroft: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/08/James_Traficant_105th_Congress_1997.jpg
08:30 PM roycroft: for anyone who is not familiar with what is one of the greatest crimes against humanity in all of our history
08:31 PM roycroft: surpassed perhaps only by the fake blonde swirl of 45
08:32 PM * roycroft thinks it's time to make pizza now
08:34 PM Unterhausen: Traficent's hairdo was an amazing thing, surprised it didn't stop the tractor
09:01 PM Tom_L: he looks like a mob boss
09:03 PM roycroft: yes, but a poorly-groomed one
09:03 PM roycroft: and you know
09:03 PM roycroft: bribery, tax evasion
09:03 PM Tom_L: you sure he didn't glue that on?
09:03 PM roycroft: that's kind of mob bossy behavior
09:05 PM Tom_L: well i adjusted the acceleration numbers on the mill and it seems to be better
09:05 PM Tom_L: ran thru the same progrma 4x with no faults
09:06 PM Tom_L: had been getting joint following errors recently. ran fine for the longest time
09:18 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> shit yeah just got the blackpill + w5500 working with linuxcnc (initial testing)
10:08 PM Tom_L: big_kevin420, what sort of latency?
10:10 PM Tom_L: aren't all the io on that 3v?
10:10 PM Tom_L: unbuffered
10:49 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> the io arwe 3v3 but can handle 5 on all but 2
10:50 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> hmmdont know latency numbers
