01:02 AM sensille: Tom_L: did I break something?
04:40 AM Tom_L: morning
04:42 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, read from 07:39 PM http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~tom-itx/irc/logs/%23linuxcnc/2023-11-15.html
04:53 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:00 AM JT-Cave: Tom_L, I have not enabled the stepgen spindle yet
06:35 AM JT-Cave: Tom_L, something weird is going on with home search velocity and update ini... if you set each joint to a different number then update the numbers get scrambled :(
06:40 AM JT-Cave: rooster just crowed
06:41 AM JT-Cave: 52°F
06:41 AM Tom_L: 49°F
06:41 AM Tom_L: he also put out mesaflash 3.5.5
06:42 AM Tom_L: with the board list on a bad --device entry
06:43 AM JT-Cave: cool
06:44 AM JT-Cave: and now I can't reproduce the bug after some twidlling about
06:47 AM JT-Cave: I was behind someone that was driving with erratic speeds last night on the way home and I finally got a chance to pass it and by the time my rear bumper was past his front bumper I was doing over 100... damn it's fast
06:48 AM rmu: tesla?
06:55 AM JT-Cave: C8
06:57 AM rmu: watch out to change lane before hitting the accelerator too hard ;)
07:00 AM JT-Cave: I was about 100' behind it so I could see around it better
07:01 AM JT-Cave: so I floored it as I was changing lanes
07:13 AM bjorkintosh: 0-60 in the blink of an eye
07:21 AM JT-Cave: 2.8 seconds actually
07:21 AM JT-Cave: so a few blinks
07:22 AM JT-Cave: now if I could find the pyqt6 uic module I'd be good to go
07:25 AM JT-Cave: got that sorted out so time to start my chicken day
07:34 AM bjorkintosh: 2.8 seconds. goodness.
07:35 AM bjorkintosh: it takes longer than 2.8 seconds to type '2.8 seconds'
07:47 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, didin't save joint 2 3 data
07:49 AM Tom_L: build config, restart mesact, load same config.. no data in 2 & 3 after a copy values
07:51 AM Tom_L: used your test 7i96 x sample
08:05 AM Tom_L: was trying to test home search velocity before i left but probably too rushed
08:12 AM JT-Cave: ok
08:18 AM bjorkintosh: https://newatlas.com/aircraft/first-automated-autorotation-landing/
09:18 AM JT-Shop: my favorite way to land is auto rotation when I used to fly RC helicopters
10:03 AM unterhausen: best landing one of my fixed wing planes ever made was when the battery fell off.
10:15 AM bjorkintosh: unterhausen, perhaps that's an exploitable feature?
10:15 AM bjorkintosh: drop the battery and then land.
10:16 AM unterhausen: in one sense, I was happy the plane was safe, on the other hand my ego was bruised that I do worse than an uncontrolled plane
10:17 AM bjorkintosh: well. you use CNC don't you?
10:18 AM bjorkintosh: imagine the number of bruised machinist egos when the computer controlled machine worked better than their 30 years did!
10:18 AM CaptHindsight: maybe there is a way to use helicopters to chop down trees with those big blades
10:19 AM bjorkintosh: CaptHindsight, you say that in jest, I bet. but there is a way.
10:21 AM bjorkintosh: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mfz1YrpMbBg
10:21 AM CaptHindsight: needs a gantry style saw
10:22 AM CaptHindsight: what could go wrong?
10:27 AM CaptHindsight: https://lwn.net/SubscriberLink/951337/e9139cdb65a9cb93/
10:27 AM CaptHindsight: The real realtime preemption end game
11:44 AM Tom_L: JT-Shop, the configs are ok. it was me
11:46 AM Tom_L: and the search velocity settings seem ok
11:52 AM Unterhaus_ is now known as unterhausen
12:12 PM JT-Cave: Tom_L, enter a value in say scale with no axis letter selected and try to build
12:53 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
12:53 PM Tom_dev: At least one Joint must be configured starting with Joint 0
12:54 PM Tom_L: select an axis letter then i get a whole bunch of warnings of things not filled out
01:01 PM Tom_L: also, if i select an angular or linear axis and deselect it the data doesn't clear
01:02 PM Tom_L: i suppose it doesn't matter if it's left while editing, it wouldn't be included in the build if you deselect it
01:09 PM Tom_L: now that i think about it, i think we talked about that already
01:17 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, btw, where it the tab order stored?
01:17 PM Tom_L: you said that would be 'fun' but i don't believe you :)
01:28 PM JT-Shop: select the default inch, 7i96 x then add something to joint 2
01:29 PM JT-Shop: the tab order is in the .ui file
01:29 PM JT-Shop: you have to edit it with the qt designer
01:29 PM Tom_L: brb, gotta pick up the honda
01:29 PM JT-Shop: https://github.com/jethornton/mesact/issues/40
01:29 PM JT-Shop: ok
01:50 PM CaptHindsight: is there some new thing here where you have to request US mail service for delivery to your home or business? They don't seem to want to just deliver it to the addressee anymore even if the name is on the box/slot
01:50 PM roycroft: yes, you register a complaint with your local postmaster or branch manager
01:50 PM roycroft: i've had to do this multiple times for myself and my businesses, even though i've been here for 23 years
01:51 PM roycroft: a new carrier takes over the route and decides to stop delivering mail, even though my name and my business names are on the box
01:51 PM CaptHindsight: oh, so it's some address harvesting tracking thing by USPS
01:51 PM roycroft: a quick visit the my local post office and a chat with the manager takes care of it
01:51 PM roycroft: s/the my/to my/
01:51 PM roycroft: until the next time it happens
01:53 PM CaptHindsight: postal worker just lazy, part of some Fascist address tracking system, SNAFU or?
01:53 PM roycroft: well it happens almost every time there's a new carrier on the route
01:53 PM roycroft: and once i actually encountered the person who was dealing with this
01:54 PM CaptHindsight: ours is out with an injury, it's a new face weekly
01:54 PM roycroft: she was temporarily assigned to the route, and was "preparing it" for the new permanent carrier
01:54 PM CaptHindsight: on the good side, we get no junk mail
01:54 PM roycroft: she drove by one day, not stopping to deliver a parcel i knew was in her vehicle
01:55 PM roycroft: i live on a dead-end street, so when she turned around to leave i stopped her and asked her
01:55 PM roycroft: she told me that i needed to "register my business names" with the post office and that she was refusing to deliver anything to an "unregistered" name so that the new carrier would not get stuck with those problems
01:55 PM roycroft: i informed here that the local manager was well aware of my business names, and that they were printed on the mailbox as directed
01:56 PM CaptHindsight: what registry is this? It appears to be secret
01:56 PM roycroft: she still refused to hand me the parcel
01:56 PM roycroft: so i had the chat (again) with the local branch manager
01:56 PM roycroft: and the following day the parcel was delivered
01:56 PM roycroft: there is no "registry"
01:57 PM CaptHindsight: more BS and laziness
01:57 PM roycroft: what i've been told every single time by the branch manager is that if i leave a printed list of names of people and business names on the inside of the door flap of my mailbox they will deliver to all those names
01:57 PM roycroft: and i have that list posted exactly as instructed
01:58 PM CaptHindsight: what I figured
01:58 PM roycroft: i don't think it's laziness
01:58 PM roycroft: because the carrier ends up delivering it anyway, eventually
01:58 PM roycroft: it's actually more work to refuse delivery the first time
01:58 PM roycroft: i think it's just some weird, warped, misguided bureaucratic mindset
01:58 PM CaptHindsight: ours said they have been returning some pices
01:59 PM CaptHindsight: thanks, just wondering if I was just lucky
02:00 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/mesact/mesact_7i96-x-test.png
02:01 PM roycroft: the bigger problem is with the amazon deliveries via usps
02:03 PM Tom_L: or when UPS hands off to USPS
02:05 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, it's too bad you gotta sort the whole of the tabs instead of by screen
02:05 PM * Tom_L feels a nap is just ahead
02:07 PM CaptHindsight: well my old Amazon driver was really good at slowing down and not stopping at our door, he would just mark it, customer not available
02:07 PM roycroft: o
02:08 PM CaptHindsight: so I'd stop him and ask why he wouldn't even bother stopping....
02:08 PM roycroft: i am talking about the amazon deliveries where usps handle the last mile
02:08 PM XXCoder: if I was boss id record gps movements
02:08 PM XXCoder: see if peoples skipping
02:08 PM roycroft: those drivers are not regular usps employees
02:08 PM Tom_L: maybe you should have been out there with a stop strip for him
02:08 PM roycroft: and they absolutely refuse to deliver parcels with business names to residences
02:08 PM CaptHindsight: they just lie, oops, I made a mistake
02:09 PM roycroft: capthindsight: their gps trackers should be able to tell if they walked up to your door or not - the granularity is fine enough
02:10 PM CaptHindsight: I eventually put up a sign that said "Amazon, stop and knock before just driving away"
02:10 PM CaptHindsight: that did the trick
02:10 PM roycroft: one of the amazon delivery folks told me they have no way of knowing if there's a home business or not
02:10 PM roycroft: so they assume there is not
02:10 PM Tom_L: for those interested mesaflash was updated to show a list of boards when --device is not found or mistyped
02:10 PM roycroft: i told them that the business names are printed on the mailbox
02:11 PM CaptHindsight: this was a business name at a business address
02:11 PM Tom_L: 3.5.5
02:11 PM roycroft: they responded that they do not open a mailbox for parcel delivery
02:11 PM CaptHindsight: one of the excuses was "it was Saturday afternoon and we thought you were closed"
02:11 PM roycroft: i can legally operate my businesses from my hosue here
02:11 PM roycroft: house
02:11 PM Tom_L: CaptHindsight, did they knock?
02:11 PM roycroft: i can legally accept mail for my businesses at my residence
02:12 PM roycroft: i cannot legally post signs visible to the general public with my business name(s) on them at my residence
02:12 PM roycroft: which is what that driver suggested
02:12 PM CaptHindsight: after the sign went up and a few complaints about waiting for the delivery on a Saturday and then being ignored by the driver
02:13 PM roycroft: that is a bullshit excuse, because you can list your business hours with the usps
02:13 PM roycroft: and with amazon, if you're getting direct deliveries
02:13 PM CaptHindsight: after that we were 24/7
02:13 PM CaptHindsight: some post offices would give me the cell phone number of the carrier after that
02:14 PM CaptHindsight: "hey Mr. Postman, why didn't you stop and the GPS says you are down the block"
02:15 PM CaptHindsight: they once left a door tag and said they left the package with the guard station at the military base
02:15 PM CaptHindsight: the manager at the post office cracked up
02:15 PM CaptHindsight: i said that I don't have either at our location
02:16 PM roycroft: my current problem is with amazon routing
02:16 PM roycroft: they have a ginormous warehouse in hillsboro oregon, just outside portland
02:16 PM roycroft: and everything they've shipped to me lately has come from that warehouse
02:16 PM CaptHindsight: i don't have any of these problems when I use a UPS mailbox
02:17 PM roycroft: yet everything they've shipped to me lately has taken a scenic route traveling as far away as new york, before coming back to oregon and being delivered
02:17 PM roycroft: nothing has been delivered on time
02:17 PM roycroft: it makes me wonder why they have regional warehouses when they don't optimize shipping routes
02:17 PM roycroft: my current late product went from hillsboro to colorado, and is not yet on its way back to oregon
02:18 PM CaptHindsight: I've found a few glitches at USPS as well. Whenever I would send boxes to a certain zipcode in LA, the boxes would always go the Florida first from Chicago
02:18 PM roycroft: usps just routed something from the eugene sorting center to bend, oregon, across the mountains, where it's been stuck for three days
02:18 PM roycroft: it will eventually get back to eugene
02:19 PM roycroft: amazon are not alone in these kinds of mishaps
02:19 PM CaptHindsight: UPS on holidays is also peculiar, they will be delivering but they get picky about who they decide is open or not
02:20 PM XXCoder: likely drivers is overloaded with amount of packages
02:20 PM XXCoder: so they try to cull out some packages so they can make it to home on time
02:20 PM CaptHindsight: for some reason on days like MLK day UPS would hold our shipments at the local depot for an extra day even though the driver would drive by for pickups
02:21 PM roycroft: they're not explicitly doing that hear any more, like they were during the previous administration
02:21 PM roycroft: the come as late as 9pm to deliver stuff now
02:21 PM roycroft: that started right after biden was sworn in
02:21 PM CaptHindsight: XXCoder: sure for xmas and similar but this would be a non heavy shipment holiday
02:23 PM CaptHindsight: Fedex ground is handled by independent contractors around here, so don't count on anything showing up on time
02:23 PM XXCoder: nah just dont count on fedup at all
02:23 PM CaptHindsight: Fedex express is still ok
02:24 PM CaptHindsight: but it's like >$100 for a few lbs for 2 day
02:25 PM XXCoder: thats moneymaker so of course
02:25 PM XXCoder: I havent had fedex delivery that didnt screw up in some way
02:25 PM XXCoder: ups and usps is fine here
02:25 PM CaptHindsight: ok so it's sounds like just common problems with all the carriers
02:26 PM CaptHindsight: I hear UPS has poor service in California
02:26 PM CaptHindsight: people tend to request FEDEX or USPS for their shipments
02:27 PM XXCoder: dont know too.
02:28 PM CaptHindsight: are you up in WA?
02:28 PM XXCoder: yep
02:29 PM CaptHindsight: did you have 5-axis mills at your last shop/job?
02:29 PM XXCoder: only one yeah. d500
02:30 PM CaptHindsight: how often did you need to calibrate them/it?
02:30 PM XXCoder: no idea, only rarely ran d500, and never setup and such
02:31 PM CaptHindsight: was at a shop on Monday where they have several and they said the military parts require them to recalibrate almost before every run of parts
02:31 PM CaptHindsight: and the process is not automated
02:31 PM XXCoder: saw your earlier comments on that yeah. yeah no idea, as we ran boeing miliary parts and we dont
02:31 PM CaptHindsight: well only semi-automated
02:32 PM XXCoder: only saw calbration when machines was moved, new machine or after major repair
02:33 PM XXCoder: only time I saw d500 recalbrated was after its huge repair, replacing bunch of wires, one encoder and some bearings
02:33 PM CaptHindsight: ok the D500 has a trunnion and rotary table vs tilting spindle
02:33 PM XXCoder: it ran constantly for years so some wearables was pretty shot
02:34 PM CaptHindsight: what surprised me was that they hadn't thought about automating the whole process
02:34 PM CaptHindsight: Haas has some $500 test jig they sell you to help
02:34 PM XXCoder: oh yes spindle was also replaced, it was starting to drop tools at end before fixes
02:35 PM CaptHindsight: oh wow
02:35 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.haascnc.com/productivity/probe-system/rotary-axis-cal-tool.html
02:35 PM XXCoder: on of grippers was cracked by metal fatigue
02:36 PM XXCoder: interesting set of tools
02:36 PM CaptHindsight: all it takes is the right crash once to get the gripper out of alignment
02:41 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.taiwantrade.com/products/detail.html?productid=1437231 you were talking about triangular threads the other day
02:42 PM XXCoder: not me
02:42 PM CaptHindsight: what was the issue with those threads and an offset/off center head? or did I miss the point?
02:43 PM CaptHindsight: I think Solarwind brought it up
02:43 PM XXCoder: how o those tringular screws work at all?
02:44 PM CaptHindsight: I have some that are triangular and in a helix around the center of the fastener
02:44 PM CaptHindsight: they are used as locking fasteners with t-slot framing
02:44 PM CaptHindsight: helix threded fasteners
02:45 PM CaptHindsight: a wobble thread
02:46 PM XXCoder: weird
02:46 PM CaptHindsight: I think Bosch makes them
02:48 PM CaptHindsight: so they won't thread into a standard nut with a matching dia and pitch they go into an aluminum opening in the center of the t-slot
02:48 PM CaptHindsight: they self thread and you can feel the torque go up and down as they rotate in
02:49 PM roycroft: like self-tapping sheet metal screws
02:49 PM CaptHindsight: similar
02:49 PM XXCoder: oh interesting
02:49 PM roycroft: except being triangular, they have some sharp edges to help cut the threads
02:49 PM CaptHindsight: but these are ~10mm
02:49 PM roycroft: more like a tap
02:50 PM CaptHindsight: https://assets.rexroth.mam.bosch.tech/assets/api/823d4511-32bb-4edd-8e34-865bcd23a7be/dc_ecommerce_big_png
02:51 PM CaptHindsight: the chips have a place to go
03:06 PM solarwind: So my lathe X axis constantly seems to leak some rusty oil very slowly
03:06 PM solarwind: I partially disassembled it finally and of course it's because of disgusting old coolant mixed with oil stuck in covered/partially sealed areas
03:07 PM solarwind: nothing catastrophic, the rust itself is from non-bearing surfaces, it just leaks into the slideway path
03:07 PM solarwind: I have to do a full disassembly and clean any old coolant out
03:07 PM solarwind: I thought coolant was full of corrosion inhibitors
03:08 PM XXCoder: probably got aged out
03:09 PM solarwind: yeah it's at least 3 years old
03:09 PM solarwind: whatever. I need to replace the leadscrews with ballscrews anyway
03:25 PM JT-Shop: Tom_L, you can start from the last logical tab order and right click and select start from here
03:26 PM JT-Shop: Tom_L, how did you get that?
03:32 PM Tom_L: <JT-Shop> select the default inch, 7i96 x then add something to joint 2
03:44 PM JT-Shop: ok
03:44 PM JT-Shop: did you get a popup?
03:44 PM Tom_L: not that i recall no
03:45 PM Tom_L: lemme pull then try again
03:49 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/mesact/mesact_7i96-x-test2.png
03:49 PM Tom_L: no popup
03:59 PM JT-Shop: you must have had an axis selected to get that
04:02 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/mesact/mesact_7i96-x-test3.png
04:02 PM Tom_L: that?
04:02 PM Tom_L: :)
04:04 PM Tom_L: i filled them all up and deleted one at a time tool
04:04 PM Tom_L: too
04:45 PM JT-Shop: just got back
04:46 PM JT-Shop: I think there's some items I'm not checking for yet on the delete that data thing
04:51 PM Tom_L: i can fill it all and see
04:51 PM JT-Shop: ok
04:51 PM Tom_L: would it happen the same on all joints?
04:52 PM JT-Shop: should work the same for all joints
04:52 PM JT-Shop: it does stop looking when it finds an entry without an axis selected
04:52 PM Tom_L: type stays as "LINEAR"
04:53 PM JT-Shop: after you deselect the axis letter?
04:53 PM Tom_L: yes
04:53 PM JT-Shop: ok
04:53 PM Tom_L: ^^ i could skip an axis though
04:53 PM Tom_L: not deliberately but it could happen
04:54 PM Tom_L: homing data doesn't get deleted
04:55 PM JT-Shop: I think that is one of the things I need to add to my list
04:55 PM Tom_L: nor stepgen... the stuff in the tabs below the joint data
04:55 PM Tom_L: doesn't clear
04:55 PM JT-Shop: https://github.com/jethornton/mesact/blob/master/mesact/src/libmesact/check.py#L80
04:57 PM Tom_L: _type_
04:57 PM Tom_L: that should be cleared by the 'select' dropdown though
04:57 PM Tom_L: if it gets set back to 'select'
04:57 PM JT-Shop: yup, have to add that in the morning
04:58 PM Tom_L: not the 'global' clear
04:58 PM Tom_L: 'global' clear _should_ clear the PID, Homing, Stepgen and Info tabs below the joint data though
04:59 PM Tom_L: Stepgen defaults to 'Custom'
04:59 PM Tom_L: or should
05:01 PM Tom_L: doesn't look like 'Info' is updated with joint changes either
05:01 PM Tom_L: haven
05:01 PM Tom_L: haven't really tested that alot
05:09 PM JT-Shop: are you talking about File New?
05:09 PM Tom_L: no
05:10 PM Tom_L: the 'info' tab under the joint data doesn't appear to update with the joint changes
05:11 PM Tom_L: just got a div/0 error too
05:12 PM JT-Shop: how did you get that?
05:13 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/mesact/mesact_div-0.png
05:13 PM Tom_L: i was clearing the Max Accel
05:13 PM JT-Shop: ah ok
05:14 PM Tom_L: it does update the info though but doesn't clear the info on a global clear
05:15 PM Tom_L: and you can't divide by zero :)
05:15 PM JT-Shop: global clear?
05:15 PM Tom_L: when you deselect an axis letter and 'check config'
05:15 PM JT-Shop: ah ok
05:15 PM Tom_L: the message box you were working on
05:16 PM JT-Shop: hmm should deselecting an axis letter clear all the entries?
05:16 PM Tom_L: but that should be separate from the axis TYPE clear
05:16 PM Tom_L: i don't think so because they may decide to go back and use it
05:17 PM JT-Shop: yeah that's what I was thinking
05:17 PM Tom_L: if the deselect the axis you can ask
05:17 PM Tom_L: like it is now
05:17 PM JT-Shop: that makes sense if you select Select ask if they want to clear the joint entries
05:17 PM Tom_L: when 'Axis' is set back to "Select" 'Type' should clear
05:18 PM JT-Shop: yup
05:18 PM Tom_L: separate from the rest
05:18 PM Tom_L: then ask and clear the rest with the info box
05:18 PM Tom_L: popup box
05:19 PM JT-Shop: https://github.com/jethornton/mesact/blob/master/mesact/src/libmesact/axes.py#L30
05:19 PM Tom_L: but "Joint Information" should also clear with it
05:19 PM JT-Shop: so are you interested in working on the tab order?
05:19 PM Tom_L: i don't know the first thing about qtpy
05:20 PM Tom_L: i was looking at the code and saw all those tab entries in the .ui file
05:20 PM JT-Shop: you don't need to know anything about python or pyqt
05:20 PM JT-Shop: you don't edit the .ui file
05:20 PM Tom_L: i figured not but that's probably where they're stored
05:20 PM JT-Shop: it's all done in the Qt Designer with the mouse
05:21 PM JT-Shop: https://github.com/jethornton/mesact/issues/40
05:21 PM Tom_L: i saw that i think
05:21 PM Tom_L: yeah
05:21 PM Tom_L: i figured that would come up eventually
05:22 PM JT-Shop: it's pretty simple just time consuming but you can do some then come back and start from the last valid tab order
05:22 PM Tom_L: can you do say the joint section without doing the whole project?
05:22 PM Tom_L: i would print a blank page and number the order so they all end up the same
05:23 PM JT-Shop: you can start where I left off yes
05:23 PM Tom_L: where did you leave off?
05:23 PM Tom_L: the problem i have is not alot of continuous time. mine comes in slices
05:24 PM Tom_L: once you start that you gotta finish the page i would guess
05:24 PM JT-Shop: I think joint 2 of the first card
05:24 PM Tom_L: first card?
05:24 PM JT-Shop: the page but not the whole project
05:24 PM JT-Shop: you will see when you open up mesact.ui with the Qt Designer
05:24 PM Tom_L: what do i need to install QT Designer?
05:25 PM JT-Shop: sudo apt install qttools5-dev-tools
05:25 PM Tom_L: not 6?
05:25 PM JT-Shop: no, 6 is pretty fresh
05:26 PM Tom_L: i see designer-qt6 in synaptic package manager
05:26 PM JT-Shop: should be qt6-tools iirc
05:26 PM JT-Shop: but the designer tool is not specific to the pyqt used as I've found out
05:27 PM Tom_L: does that put an item in the menu for designer?
05:27 PM JT-Shop: yes
05:27 PM JT-Shop: and when you double click on mesact.ui it opens up in the designer
05:27 PM Tom_L: guess you can't apt install with package manager up.. :) getting all sorts of errors
05:28 PM JT-Shop: yup
05:28 PM Tom_L: getting local feedback
05:28 PM JT-Shop: ok
05:28 PM Tom_L: she's making peppernuts and i was informed i can't have any
05:28 PM JT-Shop: lol
05:28 PM Tom_L: they're for one of the kid's work
05:28 PM JT-Shop: what are peppernuts?
05:29 PM Tom_L: hold on
05:29 PM roycroft: yummy german holiday cookies
05:30 PM Tom_L: strong anice flavor
05:30 PM roycroft: we have them in all our markets this time of year
05:30 PM roycroft: there's a fairly large mennonite community just north of here, and the mennonites come down to eugene to shop
05:31 PM JT-Shop: I didn't see any the last time we stopped at the Amish market in the middle of nowhere
05:32 PM JT-Shop: we did come home with some sweets and other tasty items
05:32 PM CaptHindsight: isn't mennonite a type of counter top or flooring?
05:33 PM roycroft: they're like amish light :)
05:33 PM CaptHindsight: Samsonites?
05:34 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/JT-Shop/peppernuts1.jpg
05:34 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/JT-Shop/peppernuts2.jpg
05:34 PM Tom_L: rather time consuming
05:34 PM Tom_L: but tasty
05:34 PM JT-Shop: recipe?
05:34 PM Tom_L: it's my mother's
05:35 PM Tom_L: hang on
05:35 PM roycroft: and those are big ones
05:35 PM CaptHindsight: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pfeffern%C3%BCsse
05:35 PM roycroft: oh, the second pic shows the smaller ones
05:35 PM CaptHindsight: Pfeffernüsse ??
05:35 PM CaptHindsight: aren't they frosted?
05:35 PM roycroft: yes, capthindsight, that's what they are
05:35 PM roycroft: and no, traditionally they're not frosted
05:36 PM roycroft: although i have seen them frosted
05:36 PM CaptHindsight: my favorite as a child
05:36 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, i was further informed that it is proprietary information :)
05:36 PM JT-Shop: I can keep a secret
05:36 PM Tom_L: i'll get it eventually :D
05:36 PM CaptHindsight: family recipes are top secret
05:36 PM JT-Shop: :)
05:37 PM JT-Shop: if you keep it a secret it dies with you
05:37 PM CaptHindsight: the German ones are always frosted
05:37 PM Tom_L: the mrs has a whole card box full of mom's recipes
05:38 PM Tom_L: only mom forgot to put how much flour to add so that was trial and error the first batch years back
05:38 PM JT-Shop: we have the same 3x5 card box of Mom's recipes
05:38 PM Tom_L: https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/shopping?q=tbn:ANd9GcTEdrRQwUUJ-u7EiciuN-i2kMXv_fmAhGEcpOke726qcA__839Zxftao4FNUHymm4u4KnYrBSV3eye-R8fHL60NeVfb_Ek1Ab3R9Q_kn0tv7hTpC-3uPgUd
05:39 PM Tom_L: metal box
05:40 PM CaptHindsight: our mother didn't write any of them down
05:40 PM CaptHindsight: twas passed on by hand and by spoken word
05:41 PM Tom_L: ok i got qt designer now
05:41 PM CaptHindsight: the most difficult one is the potato dumplings, too thick and they are bricks, too thin and the batter just makes a gooey mess when boiled
05:45 PM JT-Shop: Tom_L, did you open up mesact.ui with designer
05:45 PM Tom_L: yeah
05:46 PM JT-Shop: if you edit > edit tab order you can see the tab order
05:46 PM JT-Shop: if the numbers make sense move to the next tab
05:46 PM Tom_L: ahh
05:46 PM Tom_L: they don't
05:47 PM JT-Shop: right click on the last number that is in order and select start from here then left click on each item then save
05:48 PM Tom_L: it starts showing the 'Machine' tab and they're all mixed up
05:49 PM Tom_L: ok, 1-17 make sense
05:49 PM JT-Shop: hmm you might have to start there just left click on the first one to select
05:49 PM Tom_L: then the boxes below are 647 & 1160
05:49 PM Tom_L: i need to have a running copy up so i can make better sense of it's flow
05:50 PM Tom_L: dunno if i can still do dual monitors or just move the rpi over closer
05:51 PM Tom_L: ahh, i opened the old mesact directory by accident :)
05:51 PM JT-Shop: now that you have teased me with peppernuts and not given up the recipe I'm calling it a day
05:51 PM Tom_L: i'll get it when she's not looking shhhhhh
05:51 PM JT-Shop: ok
05:51 PM Tom_L: should i push the ui file if i work on it?
05:51 PM JT-Shop: I will make them...
05:51 PM JT-Shop: do a pull request
05:52 PM Tom_L: k
05:52 PM Tom_L: unless i really screw it up
05:52 PM Tom_L: just that one file right?
05:52 PM JT-Shop: yup, if it screwed up it's fixable
05:52 PM Tom_L: i'll make sure i'm current before i start
05:52 PM JT-Shop: ok
05:53 PM Tom_L: ok at least i have the right file open now
05:53 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.daringgourmet.com/pfeffernuesse-german-iced-gingerbread-cookies/
05:53 PM JT-Shop: thanks
05:54 PM JT-Shop: left over pizza time
05:54 PM Tom_L: and for this i don't need to see the whole qt designer workspace
05:54 PM Tom_L: so i have them side by side
05:54 PM Tom_L: did you do any on the joints yet?
05:54 PM Tom_L: or just the machine tab?
05:54 PM JT-Shop: not this evening
05:55 PM JT-Shop: I did a few tab orders but you can start where it makes sense
05:55 PM Tom_L: just figuring out what sub tabs to follow in order
05:56 PM Tom_L: if you do any, tell where you stop
05:56 PM Tom_L: and i will also
05:57 PM CaptHindsight: Pfeffernusse requires Lebkuchengewürz which has another 15 things in it
05:57 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.daringgourmet.com/homemade-lebkuchengewuerz-german-gingerbread-spice-blend/
06:01 PM CaptHindsight: ok only 9 spices
06:03 PM roycroft: there are many recipes for pfeffernusse
06:03 PM roycroft: but imo, pepper, ginger, and anise are the required spices
06:03 PM roycroft: cloves, cinnamon, and allspice are also excellent additions
06:04 PM roycroft: and i think a dash of jägermeister might round out the flavors very nicely
06:04 PM roycroft: both in the cookies and in a shot glass when serving them
06:04 PM CaptHindsight: heathen!
06:05 PM CaptHindsight: you dunk them in milk until the white frosting gets soft
06:06 PM CaptHindsight: too much anise and they get that licorice taste
06:07 PM CaptHindsight: and you snort any of the white frosting that falls off
06:35 PM sinned69150 is now known as sinned6915
07:25 PM roycroft: tonight is symphony night
07:26 PM roycroft: just in time again, as usual
07:29 PM Tom_L: how do i change repositories in git gui?
07:29 PM Tom_L: it's pointing to the original, not the copy
07:30 PM roycroft: i don't use a gui with git, so i really have no idea
07:30 PM Tom_L: i can always just send him the file. it's just one file
07:54 PM Tom_L: JT-Cave, PR #45 for tabs
07:54 PM Tom_L: wasn't able to order the sserial IO. they didn't show up
07:55 PM Tom_L: but they seemed to be ordered already
