02:40 AM Deejay: moin
04:06 AM solarwind: Deejay good morning motherfucker
04:07 AM solarwind: Deejay what are your thoughts on this? https://www.ebay.ca/itm/155620677907
04:07 AM solarwind: He offered it to me for $90 USD
04:08 AM solarwind: Looks like only one of 16 edges of some of the inserts is chipped, the others look perfect. I think those inserts alone would cost $90 USD
04:09 AM solarwind: I still need to make an arbour for it, but that's not a big deal
04:12 AM solarwind: I badly need a surface grinder
04:22 AM Tom_L: morning
04:47 AM solarwind: https://www.sandvik.coromant.com/en-gb/tools/milling-tools/face-milling-tools/coromill-745 this looks like a good cutter
04:48 AM solarwind: OHNU inserts, and they put some work into the arrangement of the inserts. That is, not just space them around evenly.
04:57 AM JT-Cave: morning
07:27 AM JT-Cave: rooster just crowed
07:30 AM Tom_L: 43F
07:31 AM JT-Cave: 29°F and it didn't take long to open up the coops with just a T shirt and sweat pants on
07:31 AM JT-Cave: High: 64 °F
07:35 AM Tom_L: hi 69
07:51 AM JT-Cave: going to Chaumette Vineyards for lunch today
08:02 AM * JT-Cave heads off to start his chicken day
11:12 AM LUNADA_DESKTOP: sweet... the machine manufacturer sent me all the axis data for the machine.
11:13 AM LUNADA_DESKTOP: counts/rev, mechanical pitch, etc
11:13 AM LUNADA_DESKTOP: and i'm glad they did because the counts/rev was completely arbitrary and it would have been difficult to figure out
11:29 AM JT-Shop: nice
11:49 AM LuminaxWk is now known as Luminax
02:14 PM lcnc-relay: <JT (@jt-shop:matrix.org)> Hi
02:20 PM LUNADA_DESKTOP: well, by setting filtering to 0 it increased my max velocity to about 700ipm, but unfortunately that's still nearly half of what the machine should do
02:21 PM LUNADA_DESKTOP: better than the 200ipm it was, but still
02:21 PM LUNADA_DESKTOP: i may have to see if i can rescale the encoder output from the servo drives.
02:29 PM pcw--home: You could try increasing the sample rate (say to 33 MHz) 50 Mhz is probably iffy
02:30 PM pcw--home: It may also be that you have way more resolution than you need on the drives simulated encoder outputs
02:32 PM pcw--home: (and simulated encoder outputs are often quite bad in terms of quadrature distortion at high speeds)
02:32 PM LUNADA_DESKTOP: i'm wondering if the old controller needed whole numbers and that's why they have such a high resolution
02:32 PM LUNADA_DESKTOP: metric parts
02:33 PM LUNADA_DESKTOP: it is super high resolution.
02:33 PM LUNADA_DESKTOP: like 70k or so
02:33 PM LUNADA_DESKTOP: per rev
02:33 PM pcw--home: inch or mm?
02:33 PM LUNADA_DESKTOP: i just downloaded the servo software
02:34 PM LUNADA_DESKTOP: the scale is around 200k pulses per inch
02:34 PM LUNADA_DESKTOP: give or take depending on the axis
02:35 PM pcw--home: Yeah, that's silly, 1/4 of that should be fine
02:35 PM LUNADA_DESKTOP: agreed
02:35 PM LUNADA_DESKTOP: we're cutting wood ffs.
02:36 PM LUNADA_DESKTOP: the company that designed and built the machine are hacks
02:36 PM LUNADA_DESKTOP: which is probably why i'm retrofitting a 5 year old machine
02:37 PM pcw--home: That's crazy...
02:37 PM LUNADA_DESKTOP: it's terrible
02:37 PM lcnc-relay: <JT (@jt-shop:matrix.org)> Turboss good you trimmed the nicks
02:43 PM LUNADA_DESKTOP: i'm honestly impressed it's handling the sample rate it is
03:11 PM lcnc-relay: <TurBoss> hello JT is that okay?
03:32 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> can they hear me on the other side?
03:32 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as unterhausen
03:32 PM roycroft: only if they are listening
03:32 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcoder> nope they can only read the text 😉
03:33 PM unterhausen: after a couple weeks of running continuously, my lcnc got a "hm2 ... error finishing read"
03:35 PM Tom_L: unterhausen, it wanted a union break
03:36 PM unterhausen: I guess that means I should slow down my threads a little?
03:36 PM Tom_L: would lots of short moves cause that?
03:37 PM Tom_L: i dunno
04:27 PM unterhausen: it's not moving anything, just sitting there sending messages back and forth
04:39 PM lcnc-relay: <TurBoss> hello JT is that okay?
04:39 PM lcnc-relay: <big_kevin420> can they hear me on the other side?
04:39 PM lcnc-relay: <xxcoder> nope they can only read the text 😉
05:30 PM JT-Shop: nice afternoon here
05:31 PM Tom_L: yup\
05:31 PM Tom_L: short sleeve weather
05:31 PM JT-Shop: almost here
05:31 PM JT-Shop: too windy to sit outside at Chaumette but ran into some friends so a nice day
05:32 PM Tom_L: 70F
05:32 PM JT-Shop: 62°F
05:32 PM JT-Shop: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1380969252014017/?multi_permalinks=6614721268638763¬if_id=1699037175318122¬if_t=group_activity&ref=notif
05:34 PM Tom_L: did you get their site up?
05:34 PM Tom_L: are you 3rd in line?
05:35 PM JT-Shop: the cover photo yes, Theresa posted the photo of our C8 at Chaumette today
05:36 PM JT-Shop: yes the website is up and going and the transfer went without any issues
05:36 PM Tom_L: good
05:40 PM Tom_L: time to build rpi debs?
05:40 PM JT-Shop: tomorrow's project is to clear off the big table in here and rebuild a fork or maybe two
05:40 PM JT-Shop: yep I fixed an issue with the 7i95t firmware
05:41 PM Tom_L: i'll get it later this evening or tomorrow am
05:41 PM JT-Shop: ok thanks
05:44 PM Tom_L: i got a min.. may as well go ahead
05:49 PM solarwind: CaptHindsight : https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0B8QGJGQZ I just received these in the mail so I've been great
05:49 PM solarwind: For $35, they are REALLY impressive
05:50 PM solarwind: I'm getting amazing surface finish on a face mill and it's insanely quiet
05:50 PM solarwind: The chips are also not blue or too hot. I think the other inserts I was using before were just crap
05:51 PM solarwind: These all sit perfectly coplanar as well. At least as far as I can tell
05:51 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, PR #35 up
05:52 PM JT-Shop: ok
05:52 PM JT-Shop: didn't take long
05:52 PM Tom_L: nope
05:52 PM Tom_L: got that part down
05:53 PM JT-Shop: :)
