#linuxcnc Calendar

12:13 AM pere: rigid: I adjusted the linuxcncrsh test to skip it until it stabilises in master.
02:14 AM Deejay: moin
02:17 AM travis_farmer: Morning :-)
02:43 AM pere: hi
02:43 AM pere: hei
02:46 AM pere: perhaps it is an upgrade from chicken and rain talk? :)
02:46 AM NoSpark: very much so :P
02:47 AM NoSpark: although, hearing about the weather in various parts of the world is interesting
02:47 AM travis_farmer: raining here :-)
02:48 AM NoSpark: My city is predicted to get to 50DegC (122F ) this summer :S
02:48 AM pere: sunny and freezing here.
02:48 AM NoSpark: I think our roads are going to melt (not joking)
02:49 AM NoSpark: I'm guessing Travis is US and pere is france or canada?
02:49 AM travis_farmer: Maine, USA
02:49 AM travis_farmer: 58F
02:49 AM pere: no chicks, though. Norway.
02:49 AM NoSpark: what is 58 F in real units :P
02:50 AM travis_farmer: 14.4C
02:50 AM NoSpark: nice weather then :)
02:50 AM NoSpark: not gonna start the metric debate :S
02:50 AM travis_farmer: lol
02:52 AM pere: I though kelvin was the real unit...
02:53 AM travis_farmer: 287.6K ;-)
02:53 AM NoSpark: furlong–firkin–fortnight-Fahrenheit system of units is the only way
02:54 AM NoSpark: although I do notice that Fahrenheit was crazy enough already they chose to use that
02:54 AM XXCoder: nah
02:54 AM XXCoder: abosute K is best
02:54 AM XXCoder: no negative number nonsense
02:54 AM NoSpark: not Rankine?
02:56 AM XXCoder: lol
02:56 AM travis_farmer: well, Kelvin can be negative, if you could measure it ;-)
02:57 AM XXCoder: no
02:57 AM XXCoder: theres 2 kelvins
02:57 AM XXCoder: I stated abosute k
02:57 AM XXCoder: it begins at 0, the coldest possible
02:58 AM NoSpark: i dont know if this is correct spelling but I vote we change to a metric Deslile, which is inverted, absolute 0 = infinity, and water boils at 0 deg Deslile
02:58 AM NoSpark: it makes the most sence
03:00 AM NoSpark: I would propose to use absolute 0 as infinity, and the boiling point of water as the 0
03:00 AM XXCoder: so whats sun temperate would be?
03:00 AM XXCoder: negative temps
03:00 AM NoSpark: yeah
03:01 AM XXCoder: nah useless
03:01 AM NoSpark: why?
03:01 AM XXCoder: it doesnt scale at all
03:07 AM travis_farmer: i googled it, kelvin and "absolute" kelvin are the same. 0K is absolute zero...
03:09 AM XXCoder: i remember that there is 2, one based on freezing temp and one aboute zero
03:11 AM travis_farmer: C is based on freezing, and K is absolute, though they are the same scale, just a direct shift point
03:12 AM XXCoder: hm well guess I misremembered or something
03:12 AM travis_farmer: or mislabled your filing system ;-)
05:47 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
05:47 AM JT-Mobile: MORNING
05:47 AM JT-Mobile: opps caps lock
06:20 AM JT-Mobile: stupid windblows won't connect to the wifi
06:56 AM JT-Mobile: pretty quite in here
06:58 AM travis_farmer: all the activity was earlier this morning...
06:58 AM JT-Mobile: it's pretty early lol
06:59 AM travis_farmer: around 3:47 ET
06:59 AM JT-Mobile: wow that's early
07:00 AM travis_farmer: i woke up around 2:30ET for some annoying reason
07:02 AM JT-Mobile: I think I'm in ET ATM
07:02 AM travis_farmer: where at?
07:03 AM JT-Mobile: Sevierville Tn western edge of ET
07:04 AM travis_farmer: oh, ok. long drive?
07:04 AM JT-Mobile: two days so not long
07:05 AM travis_farmer: 2 hours is long for me, so.... ;-)
07:05 AM JT-Mobile: Chattanooga sucked with traffic and construction
07:06 AM travis_farmer: manual trans? if so, i can imagine it did suck
07:07 AM JT-Mobile: well it's an 8 speed dual clutch transmission and the computer does the clutch work
07:07 AM travis_farmer: that's cheating ;-)
07:08 AM JT-Mobile: https://www.tremec.com/noticias_detalle/the-new-c8-corvette/
07:08 AM JT-Mobile: it's the only choice on a C8
07:09 AM travis_farmer: still cheating ;-) i liked doing the clutch myself on the two manuals cars i owned ;-)
07:10 AM JT-Mobile: the C5 was a 6 speed manual
07:11 AM travis_farmer: i had a Geo Tracker 4dr and a Chevy Spark, both with manual. i liked the Geo best... it was 4wd... until i rolled it in a snow storm
07:13 AM JT-Mobile: hmm I should boot to windblows and check emails
07:47 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
12:05 PM JT-Mobile: yo
12:05 PM Tom_L: happy bday
12:11 PM JT-Mobile: thanks
12:11 PM Tom_L: this ole man is sore after 2 days of moving
12:11 PM Tom_L: finally done
12:11 PM JT-Mobile: I bet
12:12 PM Tom_L: moved 1 day, set up the next
12:27 PM JT-Mobile: where did you find a truck :)
12:28 PM Tom_L: hah
12:29 PM Tom_L: 2 trips with both of them and the suv
12:29 PM JT-Mobile: not bad
12:29 PM Tom_L: no my wife helped alot by convincing her to ditch a bunch of stuff
12:30 PM Tom_L: 3&4 yr olds can acululate ALOT of crap
12:31 PM Loetmichel_ is now known as Loetmichel
12:32 PM JT-Mobile: lol
12:32 PM Tom_L: how's the weather in Tn?
12:32 PM JT-Mobile: nice
12:35 PM JT-Mobile: https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=36.756980000000055&lon=-90.39326999999997
12:42 PM Unterhausen: why do linux purists hate "more"?
12:45 PM roycroft: because less is more? :)
12:45 PM Unterhausen: people who ask for lcnc help on fb always want to use messenger. Nope, not going to be your personal help assistant
12:45 PM Unterhausen: the only reason I saw was that you can't scroll back, but you can
12:46 PM JT-Mobile: I've had people PM me wanting personal help... nope
12:46 PM Unterhausen: yeah, not just anyone can get me to pm
12:46 PM Unterhausen: for one thing, I'm done helping this guy, he just needs to go look at the google search I gave him
12:47 PM XXCoder: lol had few people threaten me that they will stop using program they asked me to help on if I didnt
12:47 PM XXCoder: I said okay still no problem to me
12:47 PM Unterhausen: I don't know how people expect to get a cnc running if they can't answer simple questions on google
12:47 PM Unterhausen: they aren't going to be able to get grbl working either
12:48 PM Unterhausen: his question was about finding parallel ports. The main complication is that some parallel ports just don't work
12:49 PM JT-Mobile: I had one guy say he wasted his money buying not very common Mesa cards because it's not plug n play with mesact or pnc
12:49 PM JT-Mobile: and he didn't even buy the cards from me...
12:50 PM Unterhausen: some people are just too entitled to bother with
12:51 PM XXCoder: yeah, I remember chatting with someone in isp it support job
12:51 PM Unterhausen: I can't get grbl working because I lost my arduino
12:51 PM XXCoder: theres someone who keep calling them and trying to get support for entirely different isp
12:52 PM XXCoder: first few times it took a bit to find that out, but they have notes on that now so they simply confirm its same person then let them know and hang up
12:53 PM Unterhausen: there is a guy who installs well pumps that had someone call up and threaten to call the health department about a well
12:53 PM Unterhausen: turns out he didn't install it
12:53 PM Unterhausen: health department would have made them stop using the well until they paid someone to fix it, so not a good threat
01:06 PM Unterhausen: I actually found out everything I want to know about wells by watching a couple of videos, but getting youtube to stop suggesting them is impossible
01:07 PM Unterhausen: now I'm going to get videos about bad customers
01:14 PM roycroft: it's a pretty deep subject - youtube probably think you need more info
03:05 PM JT-Mobile: Leo has a new video
03:27 PM travis_farmer: i think the town office screwed up when i last registered... my half-ton truck is registered for gross weight of 14000 pounds!
03:59 PM CloudEvil: 'Project Farm: we're going to test that!'
04:31 PM roycroft: my pickup weighs close to 10,000 lbs
04:31 PM roycroft: so i'm sure that 14,000 would not be out of line for that
04:32 PM roycroft: but it's an f350 super duty - not a 1/2 ton
04:33 PM travis_farmer: yeah, i usualy register 10000, i have no idea why they put 14000, except because they get more money if i didn't notice
04:39 PM roycroft: i don't think it makes a difference here until it goes above 26,000 lbs
04:39 PM roycroft: in which case it costs more, and requires a cdl to operate
05:11 PM solarwind_: Fusion360: I'm making a mount for a NEMA 17 stepper motor and adding the four holes at the corners. I'm trying to create a smaller square of 31mm (hole to hole distance) inside the larger one. What's the constraint to center the square?
05:12 PM solarwind_: What I want to do is "concentric", but for squares
05:12 PM solarwind_ is now known as solarwind
05:12 PM solarwind: I'm almost certain there's a better way to do this, something to do with repeating holes
05:19 PM solarwind: oh, diagonal construction line works
05:59 PM Tom_L: ^^ that's how i would do it
06:00 PM Tom_L: simple X
06:00 PM Tom_L: or / then halve the line and use the split
07:50 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
10:24 PM dellos: Hi guys, I am newbie here, just want to said hellos, I think will stick and asking around with LinuxCNC for my next hobby project. Have a nice day.
