04:42 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:02 AM travis_farmer: Morning :-)
05:13 AM Tom_L: morning
05:16 AM Tom_L: 53F
05:16 AM XXCoder: shoot me
05:16 AM XXCoder: big flipping headache
05:16 AM Tom_L: much better than 103F
05:16 AM XXCoder: I dont know what temp my body is in
05:16 AM XXCoder: I dont have anything to measure it
05:17 AM XXCoder: I can tell im feverish because of cpap. my breath out is quite hot
05:17 AM XXCoder: not as hot as last year oct as that felt like I was breathing out fire
05:17 AM Tom_L: if water boils when you put your finger in it, you got a fever :)
05:17 AM XXCoder: lol
05:18 AM XXCoder: that year it was so bad I dried my lips basically instantly and it was extremely dry afterwards. it healed across couple weeks
05:19 AM JT-Cave: 56°F
05:19 AM Tom_L: today is moving day
05:19 AM XXCoder: oh youremoving job or home?
05:20 AM Tom_L: helping my niece move
05:20 AM XXCoder: nice
05:20 AM Tom_L: no niece
05:20 AM XXCoder: lol
05:20 AM Tom_L: what's nice about moving???
05:20 AM XXCoder: exercise
05:22 AM JT-Cave: heading to Tuscaloosa tody
05:22 AM JT-Cave: today
05:24 AM JT-Cave: helping niece move out of your house?
05:25 AM Tom_L: no
05:25 AM XXCoder: that would be much simpler
05:25 AM XXCoder: push out of door, done
05:25 AM Tom_L: we moved her up from Ga a while back to an Apt but now she's moving into a house
05:25 AM JT-Cave: nice
05:26 AM Tom_L: and closer to work etc
05:27 AM JT-Cave: so we are taking the long way to Sevierville via Tuscaloosa
05:27 AM Tom_L: what's in Sevierville?
05:28 AM JT-Cave: a 5 bedroom cabin in the woods with my siblings and daughters for 4 days
05:28 AM Tom_L: fun
05:28 AM JT-Cave: it's my birthday Sunday
05:29 AM Tom_L: happy early birthday
05:29 AM JT-Cave: thanks
05:29 AM Tom_L: 68?
05:29 AM Tom_L: time flies but i thought you retired a couple yrs ago
05:32 AM Tom_L: we usually go thru Memphis and Birmingham when headed to Ga
05:32 AM Loetmichel: oh, i wasnt aware that JT-Cave is an old geezer like me :) I'll wait until sunday for the congratulations though, no need to tempt superstition :)
05:32 AM JT-Cave: I'll be 70
05:32 AM Tom_L: time does fly...
05:32 AM Loetmichel: hehe, i take that back. I still could (theoretically) be jt's son :)
05:32 AM JT-Cave: lol
05:32 AM Loetmichel: but indeed, time does fly.
05:32 AM XXCoder: 🎉
05:33 AM XXCoder: once im 50, my dad would have been 100
05:33 AM XXCoder: he had us really late
05:33 AM Loetmichel: <- born in 19 feb '69 :)
05:34 AM JT-Cave: I felt young sitting next to a couple of club members after the Cotton parade and they were comparing ages and they were both 79 3/4
05:34 AM XXCoder: im also basically 300 years youger than usa
05:34 AM * JT-Cave was born in the Territory of Alaska
05:35 AM JT-Cave: so I'm older than the state of Alaska
05:35 AM Tom_L: heh
05:35 AM XXCoder: fancy lol. evenually there will be nobody thats older than state
05:35 AM travis_farmer: my father is older by a few
05:35 AM JT-Cave: while I did slow down a lot I'm not retired
05:36 AM * Loetmichel was discussing movies with my apprentice lately. Taking about "Matrix" (original). He didnt know it. looked it up on the internet: "Hey, that move premiered before i was born!"... $me:"WTF?"
05:36 AM XXCoder: yeah green movie is years old now
05:38 AM JT-Cave: some of my favorites are The Sand Pebbles, Das Boot, Mountain Men, No Time for Sargents
05:38 AM JT-Cave: look them up :)
05:38 AM Loetmichel: it was one of those "Where did the last 20 years vanished to?" moments...
05:38 AM Tom_L: i remember a couple of those
05:39 AM Loetmichel: i know das boot and mountain men. and i think i heard about No time for sargents.
05:40 AM Tom_L: maybe all but the memory isn't what it used to be
05:41 AM Tom_L: since C19 it's been getting worse
05:44 AM JT-Cave: hmm I "think" I fixed the rooster crowing at 0:5:30 prior to sunrise
05:45 AM JT-Cave: it will be interesting to see what I can pack into the C8 this morning
05:47 AM Tom_L: hah i bet
05:47 AM Tom_L: you'll find out what you absolutely need
05:50 AM JT-Cave: yup, there is _no_ room inside the car except for some life savers and tick tack
06:08 AM bjorkintosh: https://www.temujin.ai/tutorialCAM
06:28 AM JT-Cave: oh and I forgot My Cousin Vinny
06:38 AM bjorkintosh: JT-Cave, is that a roof rack or something?
06:38 AM bjorkintosh: (or the movie fitting in the vehicle?)
06:56 AM JT-Cave: ?
06:58 AM bjorkintosh: sorry, that was before coffee.
06:58 AM bjorkintosh: my sentence forming brain was not yet awake.
06:59 AM * JT-Cave waits 30 seconds to see if the rooster crows
06:59 AM JT-Cave: T-1:05 until launch
07:00 AM JT-Cave: and the rooster failed to crow...
07:00 AM travis_farmer: :-/
08:23 AM bjorkintosh: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfSAW3zDQ7M
08:23 AM bjorkintosh: Weeny solder bot (LinuxCNC on A4 paper size)
09:09 AM Loetmichel: JT-Cave: lets hope he just overslept and doesent hang head over heels UNDER the roost. :)
10:23 AM IAmTheRealBeef is now known as Beef
10:28 AM CaptHindsight: bjorkintosh: I could have used one of those in the 70's
10:33 AM bjorkintosh: well CaptHindsight thank goodness you're a time traveler!
10:33 AM bjorkintosh: Here you are in the future, and here it is!
12:33 PM travis_farmer: my tool length probing routine is way off... am i supposed to cancel current tool offsets before probing? and then manually enable them after probing and after every tool change?
12:39 PM travis_farmer: not sure of exact wrong offset, but it seems like it is compounding offsets after a change.
12:40 PM travis_farmer: i set work zero with one tool, then change tools, and jog slowly down, but the tool tip is no longer at zero on top of the material
12:44 PM travis_farmer: everybody napping? ;-)
12:50 PM mrec: global warming siesta
01:11 PM travis_farmer: posted to the forum, maybe they are awake... ;-)
01:16 PM CaptHindsight: zzzzzzzzz
03:29 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
03:29 PM JT-Mobile is now known as JT-OTRA
03:30 PM JT-OTRA: yo
03:34 PM Roguish: yo yo JT. how's the Vette ????
03:38 PM JT-OTRA: we are in Tuscaloosa Alabama and the C8 has 8,350 miles on it and it runs
03:38 PM JT-OTRA: be 4 months old soon
03:38 PM Roguish: coooool
03:43 PM JT-OTRA: going to Sevierville Tn tomorrow
03:44 PM JT-OTRA: I had to make a choice a few weeks back the first service is 7,500 +-500 and if I drove at all I'd be past that when we got back
03:45 PM JT-OTRA: so it was a no brainer to just put enough miles on it to get the service last week
03:45 PM Roguish: makes sense. good descision
03:46 PM CaptHindsight: had a friend that moved from Chicago to Sevierville Tn years ago
03:46 PM JT-OTRA: the 7,500 mile DCT filter change and flush is critical to keeping it in warranty
03:46 PM JT-OTRA: lucky friend
03:51 PM JT-OTRA is now known as JT-C8
03:52 PM JT-C8: we put 1k miles on it in 4 days going to winery's and restaurants in Missouri
03:53 PM travis_farmer: i haven't put 1K on my truck since i bought it...
03:53 PM XXCoder: including fuel?
03:53 PM travis_farmer: in miles
03:53 PM JT-C8: XXCoder, ?
03:54 PM XXCoder: lol was thinking 1k usd. nm "D
03:54 PM JT-C8: ah ok 1k miles
03:55 PM JT-C8: last I looked I've used 300 or so gallons of fuel
03:55 PM travis_farmer: i can't afford the gas to put that many miles on it... besides, the registration ran out anyway
03:56 PM JT-C8: I remember going from pump to pump to get a bit of fuel from each hose to get home
03:56 PM JT-C8: that was on my Honda 50 Super Sport
03:56 PM JT-C8: Sunday's all the stations were closed
04:21 PM * roycroft has probably put 1200 miles on the pickup that he bought a year ago
04:22 PM * JT-C8 probably put 500 miles on the Bluewing in the last year
04:43 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
04:49 PM solarwind: What's considered "good" lighting intensity for general mechanical work?
04:49 PM solarwind: I heard something like 1,000 lux
04:49 PM JT-C8: depends on the age of your eyes
04:49 PM roycroft: and what you are looking at
04:50 PM JT-C8: exactly
04:54 PM CloudEvil: There is a reason surgeons use 100klux or so lights
04:54 PM solarwind: ~30 years, perfect vision, fine electronics soldering
04:55 PM CloudEvil: 100W LED lights have gotten way, way cheaper.
04:55 PM CloudEvil: For more light than a 500W halogen flood'd give you
04:56 PM solarwind: Yeah I use PAR20 20 degree high intensity
04:56 PM JT-C8: solarwind, only you know how much light you need...
04:57 PM solarwind: Yeah, didn't know about surgeons using 100,000 lux lights
04:57 PM solarwind: I definitely need to increase the lighting intensity around here
04:58 PM JT-C8: the color of the room can make a huge difference
04:59 PM solarwind: I have a light meter, so I go by what it shows
05:00 PM JT-C8: I have a light meter too but my brain tells me if there is enough light for the job
05:03 PM CloudEvil: Illuminated magnifiers or video micrography may make things easier than even full unaided high intensity vision
05:03 PM solarwind: Yeah I bought a stereo microscope and I'm making a camera adapter for the trinocular port
05:03 PM solarwind: it's really nice
05:04 PM CloudEvil: On the stupider side, even a mobile phone propped up and set to max zoom can be useful IME.
05:05 PM CloudEvil: (propped up = proper holder over the board)
05:05 PM CloudEvil: Also, more flux in addition to more light flux
05:06 PM solarwind: Yeah I use rosin activated flux on everything
05:06 PM JT-C8: flux capacitor
05:06 PM solarwind: an nice leaded solder
05:53 PM justache is now known as justHaunting
06:26 PM Unterhausen: my cataracts got to the point where soldering was very difficult. Got them fixed though
06:35 PM JT-C8: nice
07:31 PM roycroft: it's autumn enough now that the local markets are getting fresh figs, amongst other delicious fall fruits and veggies
07:32 PM roycroft: and tonight is pizza night, so i'm going to make one of my favorite pizzas that i haven't had in a year - olive oil base with arugula, caramelized balsamic onions, and fresh sliced figs topped with mozzarella and gorganzola cheeses
07:33 PM * roycroft was really excited to find figs at the produce market this afternoon
07:33 PM roycroft: the sweet and savory balance is outstanding in that pizza, and the arugula adds a bit of spice
