01:18 AM NoSpark: I'm thinking about making some low cost servo motor driver board, and was wondering what the recommended interface with linuxcnc would be?
01:29 AM NoSpark: I'm guessing the options would be etherCAT or some sort of serial comms
01:29 AM NoSpark: Does anyone have any suggestions?
02:11 AM Deejay: moin
04:16 AM Tom_L: morning
05:01 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:12 AM travis_farmer: Morning :-)
06:27 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
06:53 AM JT-Cave: interesting if you move a pcie nic to another slot it changes the id
06:54 AM JT-Cave: and the chicken alarm is now running PyQt6
06:57 AM JT-Cave: lets see if the rooster crows
06:58 AM Tom_L: is he running PyQt6 too?
06:58 AM JT-Cave: nope it crashed
06:58 AM travis_farmer: rooster choked?
06:59 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, build today or wait?
07:01 AM JT-Cave: build 2.0.3 wait a bit on 2.0.4
07:07 AM rmu: JT-Cave: en for ethernet, p0 for pci(e) bus number, s4 for slot 4
07:09 AM travis_farmer: so that's what those mean!!! thanks rmu :-)
07:09 AM rmu: i think it was done that way to avoid problems like new kernel version changing naming order
07:10 AM rmu: happened to me more than once after kernel upgrade that what used to be eth1 became eth0 and vice versa
07:10 AM rmu: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/134483/why-is-my-ethernet-interface-called-enp0s10-instead-of-eth0
07:11 AM CloudEvil: Just stay on kernel 3.1 instead
07:12 AM travis_farmer: i honestly always thought they were just random designations
07:19 AM rmu: to paraphrase john von neumann, those thinking of a deterministic machine choosing random designations are living in a state of sin ;-)
07:46 AM JT-Cave: time to start my chicken day
07:57 AM bjorkintosh: speaking of random. This is a complete program in APL to generate a million randomized letters: A[?1000000⍴⍴A←'abcdefwhatever']
08:01 AM travis-farmer is now known as travis_farmer
08:28 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
08:35 AM JT-Cave: pcw---home, what would make my pc reboot when I have a 6i25 and a 7i77 plugged into P3 and I run linuxcnc?
08:36 AM JT-Cave: plugged into P2 and linuxcnc launches fine
09:12 AM travis_farmer: Hmmm, a little information can be dangerous... checked my drug interactions on web-md, and all of them can cause a dangerous heart rhythm
09:20 AM Unterhausen: hopefully it's a catchy rhythm
09:21 AM Unterhausen: good to read that info though, even if it scares you
09:22 AM bjorkintosh: yep. grapefruit was the most startling.
09:22 AM bjorkintosh: it's instantly bad with a lot of meds.
09:23 AM travis_farmer: yeah, i may see what my doc thinks, as they all seem to cause the drowsiness i have been having
09:25 AM Unterhausen: the worst is pizza
09:27 AM Unterhausen: is it time to get rid of the ISO?
09:28 AM Unterhausen: I just saw someone complaining on the forum about problems with 2.8
09:28 AM JT-Cave: what
09:28 AM JT-Cave: 's the command to get information about a web site who something
09:32 AM travis_farmer: whois
09:43 AM Unterhausen: who something should work
09:43 AM Unterhausen: computers for those of us who have lost our minds
09:49 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
10:12 AM pcw---home: JT-Cave: possibly P3 power options set wrong
10:13 AM JT-Shop: ok thanks
11:24 AM roycroft: who here uses starlink for internet access?
11:51 AM Rab: I live in a city, but I know someone who bought Starlink for, uh, Starlink technology educational purposes. They seem to turn it off and on as needed.
11:56 AM Rab: It was geolocked when they got it, but that might have been lifted?
12:04 PM roycroft: i'm considering some kind of high speed mobile access
12:04 PM JT-Shop: me
12:04 PM roycroft: when i retire i may do some traveling in an rv, but would still need high speed internet wherever i am
12:05 PM roycroft: or mostly wherever i am
12:05 PM roycroft: is starlink at all dependent on the cellular network?
12:10 PM Rab: Not AFAIK.
12:10 PM roycroft: that's good
12:10 PM * roycroft wonders if it works in the woods
12:10 PM roycroft: and speaking of the cellular network
12:11 PM roycroft: because of my choice of having sms disabled on my cell phone account, i did not become marburg-zombified this morning when "the government" sent out its nation-wide text message
12:11 PM roycroft: so i'm ok :)
12:14 PM roycroft: i am heading off to get a new bill gates microchip implant in a few minutes, though
12:23 PM Rab: Hmm, isn't that an hour from now?
12:24 PM travis_farmer: i thought so
12:24 PM Rab: "Approximately 2:20 pm ET"
12:25 PM rigid: funny to think about how many thousand hours of motionless staring at a moving cnc tool is gathered in this channel
12:27 PM Rab: Almost as entertaining as chickens!
12:32 PM roycroft: oh, it hasn't happened yet
12:32 PM roycroft: i guess it just did
12:33 PM * roycroft waits for the zombie apocalypse that will ensue from the intrusive sms
12:46 PM bjorkintosh: https://www.instructables.com/Solar-Draw/
12:46 PM bjorkintosh: a CNC engraving system that harnesses the sun's heat.
12:56 PM Rab: There was a project that tried to 3D print by sintering sand with focused sunlight, but I haven't seen any recent activity.
12:59 PM Rab: https://kayserworks.com/798817030644/
01:00 PM Rab: That's why, it was art
01:04 PM Rab: "As part of his academic role at MIT, Kayser has contributed to multiple peer-reviewed papers as well as a patent on a 3D glass printing process."
01:04 PM Rab: And that's also why.
01:04 PM JT-Shop: roycroft, starlink is strictly satellite
01:05 PM JT-Shop: starlink works anywhere it can get a signal from a satellite
01:05 PM JT-Shop: they have a mobile setup for RV's
01:06 PM JT-Shop: but the regular works just as well you just set it on the ground in an area with clear view of the sky and turn it on
01:06 PM * JT-Shop takes a nap
01:11 PM travis_farmer: starlik is expensive!!!
01:11 PM travis_farmer: *starlink
01:12 PM travis_farmer: about $700 startup for my area!!!
01:12 PM travis_farmer: $90/m
01:13 PM Tom_L: probably the best deal for a rural area
01:13 PM travis_farmer: i pay $40 for cable internet
01:15 PM Tom_L: mine is 2x that but it's 200+Mbps ... actually the test shows 395
01:16 PM travis_farmer: i get about 25D X 4U
01:17 PM travis_farmer: we poor, so we get poor speeds
01:19 PM bjorkintosh: Rab, that's a neat project.
01:21 PM travis_farmer: there was the test...
01:25 PM Rab: bjorkintosh, that guy made a solar cutter project too: https://kayserworks.com/#/353628916383/
01:27 PM Unterhausen: I'm starting to think this whole microchip thing was a hoax
01:28 PM bjorkintosh: what hoax?
01:28 PM CloudEvil: It's all vacuum tubes.
01:31 PM CaptHindsight: the Bill Gates vacuum tube 5G Covid vaccine spy tools? Truth is stranger than fiction.
01:37 PM bjorkintosh: WAT?
01:37 PM bjorkintosh: what the hell is all that about?!
01:37 PM bjorkintosh: Rab this might be handy: https://kayserworks.com/#/884688365675/
01:37 PM CaptHindsight: Conflated conspiracy theories
01:39 PM bjorkintosh: who?! I'm really lost.
01:39 PM * bjorkintosh is really lost.
01:40 PM CaptHindsight: bjorkintosh: needs sun so they mix glass powder with photopolymers and LCD/DLP print and then sinter or they injection mold the glass powder and binder than also sinter
01:40 PM CaptHindsight: than /then
01:41 PM CaptHindsight: larger pieces of glass may be cast using high temp ceramic powders like a sand mold for iron
01:42 PM CaptHindsight: high temp ceramic powder + binder via inkjet for the mold
02:02 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, PR #31 up
02:18 PM JT-Shop: thanks
03:44 PM solarwind: CaptHindsight have a source for 17bit or better optical encoders?
03:45 PM solarwind: The leadshine servos are my last resort. $200 USD gets you the full motor with the encoder. So I can just mount it and use it as an encoder, possibly take the magnets out to reduce inertia and get rid of the detent torque
03:47 PM solarwind: https://www.automationtechnologiesinc.com/products-page/ac-servo-motors/ethercat-ac-servo-motor I mean it's a damn good deal for a 23 bit ready to use high speed absolute encoder
03:47 PM solarwind: but if I can get the encoder alone for less than half the price, I'd prefer that
03:52 PM CaptHindsight: solarwind price depends on options, IP rating etc
03:53 PM CaptHindsight: but the only ones that are <$100, >17b absolute are made in China
03:54 PM solarwind: That's ok with me
03:56 PM CaptHindsight: alibaba
05:14 PM CaptHindsight: solarwind: the only probable lower cost 17b+ absolute encoder might be diy using the Chinese glass wheels for $2ea
05:27 PM roycroft: 17bit encoders cost a toonie and a bit, not a toonie
05:28 PM roycroft: and oh my
05:28 PM roycroft: ukraine have gone all harry potter now
05:28 PM roycroft: they're issuing "invisiblity cloaks" to their soldier
05:28 PM roycroft: s
05:29 PM CloudEvil: Space blankets?
05:30 PM roycroft: more like the insulating blankets firefighters use
05:30 PM roycroft: they are supposed to make the troops invisible to ir targeting systems
05:44 PM CaptHindsight: I thought toonies were only for cars
06:15 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
06:16 PM Unterhausen: I'm mostly glad we didn't all die of a hemorrhagic disease triggered by the emergency broadcast system
06:20 PM * XXCoder points to Unterhausen like that guy in ending of bodysnatcher movie
06:20 PM Unterhausen: I have homework I don't want to do
06:20 PM Tom_L: that one they use cell phones as a plot to destroy humans...
06:21 PM CaptHindsight: I thought it was going to be zombieizim
06:21 PM XXCoder: https://youtu.be/wTP_SdjD5ms
06:22 PM Tom_L: the part in Kingsman toward the end
06:23 PM Tom_L: i bet that guy that pushed the button LOVES his job
06:23 PM XXCoder: sadly never watched that kingsman movie
06:23 PM Tom_L: iirc there may be 2 not sure
06:23 PM Tom_L: i liked it
06:24 PM XXCoder: btw woman in end of video I linked to was really freaked out. they had setup it "outside work hours" in order to make her freak out
06:24 PM Tom_L: 3
06:25 PM roycroft: oh man, unterhausen
06:25 PM roycroft: let me tell you what today was
06:25 PM roycroft: i was at the pharmacy today, picking up a prescription
06:26 PM roycroft: and waiting to get my bill gates microchip booster
06:26 PM roycroft: i was the youngest person in the pharamcy, other than the staff
06:26 PM Tom_L: all with walkers?
06:26 PM roycroft: there were maybe 25 other people, all very very old, in the small lobby fo the pharmacy
06:26 PM roycroft: walkers and canes
06:27 PM XXCoder: wow
06:27 PM XXCoder: usually when I go by lobby its random assortment of people
06:27 PM roycroft: at 11:18, there was a cacophony of cell phone alert tones that all happened simultaneouslly
06:27 PM CaptHindsight: I'm going to make myself an exoskeleton before I get that old
06:27 PM XXCoder: usually someone old there but yeah
06:27 PM Unterhausen: nice
06:27 PM roycroft: and just about everyone there freaked out and had no idea what was happening
06:27 PM roycroft: the sound was deafening
06:27 PM roycroft: to me
06:28 PM roycroft: but not to the others, because none of them could hear well :)
06:28 PM XXCoder: I had literally sat down 2 minutes before phone alarmed lol
06:28 PM roycroft: they seemed pretty uninformed that the alert was scheduled to happen, and could not figure out what it was all about
06:28 PM * roycroft notes that his phone made no noise
06:28 PM Unterhausen: at least they hadn't heard about the virus that was supposed to be released
06:28 PM roycroft: even though i have sms blocked, i can't block that
06:29 PM roycroft: but i can and did silence it
06:29 PM roycroft: yeah, it could have been a lot worse
06:29 PM Unterhausen: a person on reddit reported that they were told not to come to work
06:29 PM roycroft: even though my pharmacy is in a fairly blue part of town, the average age of the folks that were there would suggest a fair amount of maga energy
06:29 PM Unterhausen: I did want to see the giant drones though
06:30 PM roycroft: and btw, they were almost all there for flu shouts
06:30 PM roycroft: not for gates microchip boosters
06:30 PM roycroft: i'm not sure how the flu vaccine is safe but the covid-19 one is not
06:30 PM CaptHindsight: roycroft: you should have walked in one minute earlier and proclaimed that anyone guilty of "insert something silly" will have their phones ring in a few seconds
06:30 PM XXCoder: ah yes chips is well known to dissolve in flu shots so it cant have any
06:31 PM Unterhausen: it's not surprising that bill gates couldn't get the microchips right, he's kind of known for buggy software
06:32 PM Unterhausen: the problem with making any announcements is that they said the test might not happen at a pre-determined time
06:32 PM Unterhausen: I thought about getting flu, rsv, and corvid together, but I wimped out
06:33 PM roycroft: anyway, i have my new tracking microchip now
06:33 PM roycroft: i am waiting on the flu shot - i usualy wait until late october for that, as flu season doesn't really begin in earnest until november
06:33 PM Unterhausen: any side effects? Like heart attacks?
06:33 PM roycroft: and the effectiveness of the vaccine fades over time
06:34 PM roycroft: so far the microchip booster has had zero side effects
06:34 PM Unterhausen: that's what has happened to me, disappointing
06:34 PM roycroft: it's pfizer again, what i've gotten all along as a matter of principle
06:35 PM roycroft: $former_president took credit for developing the covid-19 vaccines that he claims don't work
06:35 PM roycroft: but he can't take credit for the pfizer one, because they rejected the money he threw at them
06:35 PM CaptHindsight: zoster vaccine + Tdap at the same time kicked my but for 48 hours
06:35 PM roycroft: and developed their on their own
06:36 PM XXCoder: capt yeah c19 vaccine sure hit me hard
06:36 PM roycroft: i'm going to get zoster + seasonal flu (extra strength) together late in october
06:36 PM roycroft: right after the election is over
06:36 PM roycroft: everyone i know who has gotten the zoster vaccine had a rough couple days right after
06:36 PM roycroft: and i cannot afford a couple days of downtime right now
06:36 PM roycroft: not until the 22nd
06:38 PM Unterhausen: I got the shingles vaccine last year. felt like I been kicked in the arm
06:39 PM roycroft: so how much do folks want to bet that some republicans will try to delay picking a new speaker until after november 17?
06:39 PM roycroft: unterhausen: yes, that's what folks tell me
06:39 PM Unterhausen: is that when the debt thing expires?
06:39 PM roycroft: but i have two friends who got shingles within the past year, and it kicked their butts for weeks
06:39 PM roycroft: yes, that's when the current cr expires
06:39 PM Unterhausen: shingles is awful
06:40 PM Unterhausen: I hear
06:40 PM roycroft: and the house, but its own rules, cannot do ANYTHING until it picks a new speaker, except adjourn
06:40 PM roycroft: and i had chicken pox as a wee lad
06:40 PM CaptHindsight: I didn't get chicken pox as a kid until i was 18-19, it was miserable
06:40 PM roycroft: so i'm all for getting the zoster vaccine
06:40 PM Unterhausen: Patrick Henry is apparently coocoobanananuts
06:40 PM Unterhausen: I had it before there was a vaccine
06:41 PM Unterhausen: I was in the "chicken pox party" cohort of boomers
06:41 PM CaptHindsight: yes, back then you just got it or didn't
06:41 PM roycroft: mchenry is about what was expected
06:41 PM XXCoder: pox party here also
06:41 PM roycroft: and this whole "eviction" of nancy pelosi thing is being way overblown
06:41 PM Unterhausen: XX, I didn't think you were that old
06:41 PM XXCoder: im 47
06:42 PM jdh: I had shingles when I was 54, had to be 55 to get the vaccine. it sucked
06:42 PM CaptHindsight: how did the pox parties work, did they rub a group of children together?
06:42 PM roycroft: it's valid to say that their priorities are misguided to make that their top priority
06:42 PM Unterhausen: that's right, it was a relatively recent vaccine
06:42 PM roycroft: sleepover or something
06:42 PM XXCoder: just play in same room
06:42 PM XXCoder: my bro got it pretty late and it was pretty nasty
06:42 PM roycroft: but traditionally, the most recently retired speaker gets that office suite
06:42 PM roycroft: and it's going to mccarthy
06:42 PM Unterhausen: I was the one with chicken pox, only way I could get invited to parties
06:42 PM XXCoder: had pimples on feet bottoms and stuff
06:42 PM jdh: there is a newer, 2 dose shingles vaccine that actually works. I highly recommend avoiding shingles.
06:43 PM XXCoder: what age is good for shingle shot anyway
06:43 PM CaptHindsight: at least I got it from a girlfriend
06:43 PM Unterhausen: right, the old shingles vaccine didn't work
06:43 PM XXCoder: horzional transfer eh
06:43 PM Unterhausen: insurance doesn't pay before 60, usually
06:43 PM CaptHindsight: she had like 10 little bubbles, I had >1K
06:43 PM XXCoder: unter ok
06:43 PM roycroft: i got chicken pox, what was then called "german measles (rubella)", and the mumps as a child
06:44 PM Tom_L: yeah i still bear those scars
06:44 PM roycroft: i did not get the measles
06:44 PM roycroft: i was vaccinated for that
06:44 PM CaptHindsight: MMR
06:44 PM Tom_L: so was i thus the scar
06:44 PM roycroft: and i only got the mumps on one side of my throat
06:44 PM roycroft: i was told that i could get it again on the other side
06:45 PM roycroft: that seemed odd to me, but it hasn't happened
06:45 PM XXCoder: ouch
06:45 PM CaptHindsight: and the smallpox vaccination scar
06:45 PM roycroft: my smallpox scar is finally gone
06:46 PM roycroft: it took decades
06:46 PM CaptHindsight: i swear mine was the size of a half dollar
06:46 PM roycroft: mine was smaller than a dime
06:47 PM roycroft: i like my pharamacy - small, family-owned, independent, and the staff are really nice
06:47 PM roycroft: but it was pretty weird being in there with all those old people
06:48 PM roycroft: they have a drive-through window for picking up prescriptions, and they were even doing covid-19 vaccines at the drive-through last year, but not any more
06:49 PM roycroft: so i was just reading that the mumps vaccine i got was the original one developed in the '40s, and very short-lived
06:50 PM Unterhausen: we all had the mumps and our dad got it from us. He was in bed for a week
06:50 PM roycroft: a newer one was developed in the '70s that lasts much longer, using an inactivated virus
06:50 PM Unterhausen: I have thought that anti-vax sentiment would be greatly reduced if they gave them in sugar cubes, like the polio vaxx
06:51 PM * roycroft got his childhood vaccines before the first mmr vaccine came out
06:51 PM roycroft: mine were separate
06:51 PM roycroft: sugar cubes?
06:51 PM roycroft: they should inject the vaccine in chicken wings
06:51 PM roycroft: that would get folks taking it
06:52 PM roycroft: hot wings, with free microchips
06:54 PM CaptHindsight: with 5G you should be able to get it through your phone
06:54 PM CloudEvil: They are putting quite a lot of flu vaccines in chicken wings.
06:56 PM CaptHindsight: in addition to antibiotics?
07:42 PM Unterhausen: I guess I'm the only one that thinks the 2.8 iso should go away
08:05 PM Tom_L: doesn't 2.9 use python 3?
08:05 PM Tom_L: that would also require an OS upgrade for alot of ppl
08:09 PM CaptHindsight: yes LCNC 2.9 uses Python 3.x
10:59 PM roycroft: my arm is getting sore
11:00 PM roycroft: i wonder if that means that the microchip has started transmitting
