01:49 AM Deejay: moin
03:30 AM travis_farmer: Morning :-)
05:15 AM Tom_L: morning
05:18 AM JT-Cave: morning
06:55 AM JT-Cave: rooster just crowed
07:55 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, where's the parade?
10:06 AM _unreal_: At this point I'm confident that everything I've done with the PCB is good. discovered I had asmall BOOBOO? in my PCB design as I was soldering? dont know how KIcad allowed me to connect the 12/24v to the 5v. considering I did draw a schematic and loaded the netlist into kicad PCB?
10:07 AM _unreal_: just dont understand
10:07 AM _unreal_: in anycase
10:07 AM _unreal_: PCB has been re-draw. and the PCB I milled as a nice little patch wire on it.
10:22 AM _unreal_: anything exiting happening?
10:23 AM _unreal_: exciting
10:23 AM _unreal_: I was about to try and compile my code but there is an arduino IDE update so... may as well
11:40 AM _unreal_: I give up with this windows computer. I can not get the programmer to work to program the stupid attiny85
11:41 AM _unreal_: looks like I'm going to have to do it with the linuxlaptop which :S I have not turned on in a long time
11:41 AM _unreal_: everything is out of date and I've never done anything with arduino IDE aside from install version??? 1.6 or 1.8 ish arduino IDE
11:41 AM _unreal_: blaaaa
11:42 AM _unreal_: yay 700+ megs of downloads on a computer that is........ CPU SLOW
11:42 AM _unreal_: I forget what it is but its SLOW
11:43 AM _unreal_: I have ubuntu LT latest on it
11:44 AM Tom_L: isp or with a bootloader?
11:46 AM Tom_L: http://dfu-programmer.github.io/
11:46 AM Tom_L: meh that's for USB ones
11:46 AM Tom_L: avrdude
11:48 AM Tom_L: https://github.com/avrdudes/avrdude
01:50 PM roycroft: so te house just passed a stopgap spending bill, and the speaker will likely lose his job
01:51 PM XXCoder: oh thats good. shutdowns heavly affect many people
01:51 PM roycroft: well, we'll see
01:51 PM roycroft: the house just adjourned
01:51 PM roycroft: and the house bill and senate bill are different
01:52 PM XXCoder: ahh ok so not nailed down yet
01:52 PM roycroft: i don't know if the house will reconvene to pass a reconciled bill or expect the senate to pass the house bill without changes
01:52 PM roycroft: no, it's not
01:58 PM roycroft: the senate is in the middle of a live quorum call (where every senator has to appear on the floor in person) as a stalling tactic while waiting for the house bill to be delivered
02:14 PM Tom_L: use govt funds to fly in of course
02:25 PM CaptHindsight: There was always a way to pay for the programs we need
02:26 PM CaptHindsight: this article got stuck on the front page when the Covid lockdown began, it's like a time machine to remind us
02:27 PM roycroft: they should mostly be in town
02:27 PM CaptHindsight: https://theoutline.com/post/8895/how-will-we-pay-for-it-is-a-stupid-question?
02:27 PM CaptHindsight: Mar—30—2020 02:03PM EST
02:52 PM roycroft: anything question regarding our congress is stupid
03:02 PM CaptHindsight: you get what you pay for
04:40 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
04:40 PM _unreal_: FINALLY got it connected and compiled
04:40 PM _unreal_: now time to test the board I made for any issues.
04:40 PM _unreal_: main one making sure the 78l05 is CORRECT!
04:41 PM roycroft: so when my taxes went up after 45's "tax cuts" i should have expected mre, capthindsight?
04:43 PM Tom_L: could have been 44's or 46's
04:50 PM Unterhausen: 44 lowered taxes.
04:50 PM _unreal_: ok annoying
04:50 PM _unreal_: I'm now waiting for my iron to heat up. just did a power test before I drop the attiny in
04:50 PM _unreal_: and power is wrong everywhere
04:50 PM CaptHindsight: roycroft: yes, expect more taxes and less stuff for you
04:51 PM _unreal_: I believe the 78l05 is backwards. but it makes no sense becuase googling it. every other post is reversed. 1 is in 3 is in. 2 is always ground
04:51 PM _unreal_: wtf
04:51 PM _unreal_: its litteraly a crack shoot as to which pin 1 or 3 is in/out voltage
04:51 PM _unreal_: crap
04:52 PM _unreal_: so !@#$^@#$%!@#$! tired of rain
04:53 PM _unreal_: its now rained for a full @#$%@#$% month
04:53 PM _unreal_: it never rains more then 30min in florida
04:53 PM _unreal_: wtf
04:53 PM Unterhausen: we aren't expecting rain until friday
04:54 PM _unreal_: from the start of sept. all its done is rain
04:54 PM _unreal_: I left maine because all it does is rain
04:55 PM _unreal_: in maine you can expect 1-2 months a year to never see the sun or blue sky
04:55 PM XXCoder: here it used to be 8-10 months like that
04:55 PM XXCoder: not for over a decade now but yeah
04:56 PM Unterhausen: XXCoder, do you think it would be worth powering my MPSMV2 with a 30 amp supply vs 12 amp?
04:56 PM Unterhausen: I am adding a mosfet
04:56 PM XXCoder: no idea honestly, though id calculate max demend and ensure it has some buffer above that
04:57 PM Unterhausen: well, the heat blanket I added is rated to 10 amps
04:59 PM Unterhausen: I have a meanwell 12 amp supply and a random Chinese 30Amp supply
05:01 PM Unterhausen: I turned on google's AI search and it can't help me with this question
05:05 PM _unreal_: what a PIA. ok found my first trace issue.
05:05 PM _unreal_: looks like one of those missed messed up locations last night milling did f me up
05:05 PM _unreal_: heating the soldering iron back up
05:05 PM _unreal_: got to bridge a trace that looks connected but isnt
05:05 PM _unreal_: :(
05:06 PM _unreal_: and that could mean I just switched the 78l05 for nothing as well
05:16 PM _unreal_: ok odd voltage on other pins fixed... but I have to swap the 78l05 looks like
05:17 PM _unreal_: or its no good to begin with
05:22 PM Unterhausen: It's fairly difficult, but not impossible, to smoke that voltage regulator
05:58 PM JT-Shop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRsUz8XQZ_E
06:09 PM _unreal_: Unterhausen, could not be more correct
06:09 PM _unreal_: and I just switched that regulator around "AGAIN!" and sure enough it works
06:10 PM _unreal_: so one bad ground. bridged so it was connected. and 78l05 was reversed. after correcting everything seems to be working
06:10 PM _unreal_: just got all the main control wires hooked up
06:10 PM _unreal_: now 3d printing 2 base DIN rail mounts CUSTOM mounts
06:11 PM _unreal_: printing the first one right now
06:11 PM _unreal_: figures I have a print file that makes only one. just dont feel like re-doing it so I can print 2 and once
06:11 PM _unreal_: oh well
06:26 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2468067220300286 they used mach3 :)
06:26 PM CaptHindsight: Development and validation of a low-cost polymer selective laser sintering machine ^^^
06:27 PM CaptHindsight: ahh Australians, figures :p
06:53 PM _unreal_: one of 2 mounts printed
06:55 PM Unterhausen: the local 3d printer people used marlin
06:56 PM Unterhausen: seems like lcnc would be pretty good for SLS
06:56 PM _unreal_: laser cintering plastic :S
06:56 PM _unreal_: sounds like its more likely to burn then melt
06:57 PM _unreal_: I think it could make more sense to have a HOT needle in a cone shape with maybe a very slow heated air as well
06:58 PM _unreal_: the trick is not getting the plastic to stick to anything
06:59 PM _unreal_: ya as I thought, quick google search yields endless content about the difficulties of lasers on plastic with out burning
07:00 PM _unreal_: t4nk_fn, whats new?
07:02 PM _unreal_: t4nk_fn, just not around.. oh well
07:05 PM _unreal_: not very lively tonight
07:05 PM _unreal_: sigh
07:08 PM CaptHindsight: Unterhausen: I agree https://i.imgur.com/LxSPzg7.mp4
07:10 PM CaptHindsight: SLS is easy IF you know what you are doing
07:11 PM CaptHindsight: you just heat the thermoplastic power to just below its melt temp then you run the laser over the areas that you wish to sinter or melt
07:13 PM CaptHindsight: some do find that having a build platform and a powder supply and spreader inside a sealed over with inert gas to be complex but it's just a fancy oven with some pistons and a power spreader
07:14 PM CaptHindsight: and you just keep a slight positive pressure inside the build chamber with nitrogen or argon
07:15 PM XXCoder: bah I want SLS lol
07:15 PM CaptHindsight: that Discord project is coming along slowly
07:16 PM XXCoder: slsforall?
07:16 PM XXCoder: I gave up on them when they locked themselves in to black nylon 12 alone
07:16 PM CaptHindsight: yes, https://sls4all.com/
07:16 PM XXCoder: also refused to listen to you on alternatives
07:16 PM CaptHindsight: well you don't have to follow their instructions completely
07:17 PM CaptHindsight: I have already bee giving tips on LCNC control, inkjet (binder) and powder bed fusion etc etc
07:17 PM CaptHindsight: bee/been
07:17 PM XXCoder: last time I was there you was ignored basically. have that changed?
07:18 PM CaptHindsight: yeah, it's been changing
07:18 PM XXCoder: nice
07:18 PM CaptHindsight: now I'm sort of genius after posting pics of how to use off the shelf pistons and cylinder sleeves
07:18 PM XXCoder: lol
07:19 PM CaptHindsight: some people are only teachable after they try and get stuck
07:20 PM XXCoder: makes sense
07:22 PM CaptHindsight: https://i.imgur.com/ukGDmqf.jpg lower left
07:22 PM XXCoder: yeah I remember that
07:24 PM CaptHindsight: I asked him to leave some space on the top of the build platform for inkjets and UV curing leds and similar
07:34 PM XXCoder: flexabiloity is nice
07:46 PM Unterhausen: Now that you can buy pi's again, I might put one in my 3d printer and use octaprint
07:47 PM Unterhausen: using klipper with a MPMSV2 seems silly, but maybe I'll try that too
08:35 PM _unreal_: WOW.. just tried a bottle of whiskey I was given
08:35 PM _unreal_: "open" bottle
08:35 PM _unreal_: "Smokey Joe" frigen $200 bottle
08:35 PM _unreal_: I felt like a cartoon flipping my hat after a shot
08:35 PM _unreal_: wow
08:36 PM _unreal_: Very smokey flavor
08:38 PM _unreal_: https://www.bing.com/videos/riverview/relatedvideo?q=smokey+joe+whiskey&mid=B397BC239B4947929EADB397BC239B4947929EAD
09:14 PM roycroft: proper whisky isn't spelled with an 'e' :)
09:20 PM roycroft: the senate has passed the cr, and the bill is on its way to the white house
10:15 PM Tom_L: think he can read it?
10:20 PM roycroft: better than many who voted on it
10:20 PM roycroft: but i have bigger news
10:20 PM roycroft: the guardian report that peas on toast is the new avocado toast
10:20 PM roycroft: and it's actually yummier
10:20 PM Tom_L: you started building your cnc?
10:21 PM Tom_L: oh, not that sort of news..
10:21 PM roycroft: until this election is over (we count votes on october 22) my life is not my own
10:22 PM roycroft: if i get 20 minutes a couple times/week to work in the shop i'm doing well
10:22 PM Tom_L: i can relate to that
10:22 PM roycroft: i just took a bit of a pay cut, but i'm pretty much ok with that
10:23 PM roycroft: we've been operating a municipal wifi network for the past 15 years
10:23 PM roycroft: we just shut it down this week
10:23 PM Tom_L: i recall you mentioning something to that effect
10:23 PM roycroft: i had been getting 6-10 hours of overtime per month for all those years
10:23 PM roycroft: but now that's done
10:23 PM roycroft: which means no more 5am maintenance windows
10:24 PM roycroft: i'm at a point where i'm ok with the lost of overtime if it means i can sleep in a bit longer on those days
10:29 PM XXCoder: shifting importance fun
10:39 PM solarwind: pcw---home my friend got a contract from the Toronto district school board to upgrade ALL their CNC machines
10:40 PM solarwind: our mayor made it mandatory for students to attend shop class in high school
10:40 PM solarwind: so all the old CNC machines are going to get revived
10:41 PM solarwind: he asked for my help to handle the motion control side of this while he fixes the mechanical parts on the machines
10:41 PM solarwind: there are 100+ machines and I'm going to come up with a plan for the school board to use and teach LinuxCNC instead of Mach shit
10:42 PM solarwind: and the pcw---home so I want them to go the LinuxCNC + mesa card route, but I need some kind of information on availability of these cards as well as documentation which I can't seem to find _anywhere_ on the site
10:45 PM pcw---home: Basic cards like the 7I96S and 7I95T are available in quantity
