#linuxcnc Calendar
11:26 AM travis_farmer: looks like c-log died... "dearly beloved, we are gathered here today, to mourn the loss of c-log..." ;-)
11:37 AM travis_farmer: oh, there it is
11:46 AM bjorkintosh: JT-Cave, gotcha! of course.
11:46 AM JT-Cave: the last automatic assembly machine I built had two servos with build in drive and PLC, the PLC part controlled when and how far the servo rotated and was controlled by a click plc telling it when to move
11:46 AM bjorkintosh: any suggestions for a cheap servo/drive combo? it's just to play with.
11:46 AM JT-Cave: never seen a cheap one...
11:46 AM * Tom_L calls it a week
03:47 PM Tom_L: bot seems to have trouble staying connected today
03:47 PM Unterhausen: I panicked when I got that second pi, because I though it was broken.
03:48 PM Unterhausen: I bought it before the shortage, but didn't try to boot it until after the shortage
03:48 PM Tom_L: http://buildbot2.highlab.com/debian/dists/bullseye/2.9-uspace/
03:48 PM Unterhausen: so if it didn't work, I was sol
03:48 PM Tom_L: see if that one works
03:48 PM Tom_L: http://buildbot2.highlab.com/debian/dists/bookworm/2.9-uspace/
03:48 PM Tom_L: or that one
03:48 PM Tom_L: armhf is 32bit
03:48 PM * JT-Shop gets his Friday Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier and goes back to the rear wheels
03:49 PM Tom_L: just how long does it take to switch tires around?
03:49 PM Tom_L: don't apply at nascar :)
03:49 PM Unterhausen: depends on how many beers
03:50 PM JT-Shop: well I only have one low profile jack so I jack up one side and put a 2x12 under the tire then the regular jack fits
03:50 PM Tom_L: they've gone to the single knockoff on theirs last year
03:50 PM Tom_L: you need a lift
03:50 PM JT-Shop: once I got the wheel off it's time to wash it when dry I put the tire shine on then mount it back on
03:51 PM JT-Shop: I've thought about that but I've never needed to lift any one higher than 18" or so
03:51 PM JT-Shop: then I have to go and give the hens their treats... it gets complicated
03:52 PM Tom_L: get an air bladder and slide it under one end at a time like they do on ships
03:53 PM Tom_L: GM might not recomend that approach
03:53 PM Tom_L: Unterhausen, if you try one of those lemme know the results
03:54 PM Unterhausen: I just downloaded debian
03:55 PM JT-Shop: I thought something was amiss and I just got the invoice for the service the other day and tire rotation is not included but they did it anyway
03:55 PM Tom_L: seb would probably appreciate feedback too
03:55 PM Unterhausen: are those seb's builds?
03:55 PM Tom_L: yes
03:55 PM JT-Shop: a couple of the lug nuts were not torqued to 140 lb ft for sure
03:55 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, so you're rotating them back to where they were?
03:55 PM Unterhausen: he doesn't have 64 bit builds?
03:55 PM Tom_L: no
03:55 PM Unterhausen: eh
03:56 PM JT-Shop: well the front got rotated...
03:56 PM Unterhausen: I guess I can try it, for science
03:56 PM Tom_L: you may be able to install that on a 64bit system based on what i found out about bullseye
03:56 PM JT-Shop: I'll put them back Sunday, got to be in a parade tomorrow
03:57 PM Tom_L: Unterhausen, i installed bullseye as a 32bit os and did the full update and it turned into a 64 bit os
03:57 PM Tom_L: i discovered that when building jt's debs
03:58 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, you'd better make that shine like a diamond in a goat's arse then
03:58 PM Unterhausen: pi's work with either
03:59 PM Tom_L: i started a test on one and haven't had a chance to get back to it
03:59 PM Tom_L: oh.. one thing i wasn't able to find a preempt-rt kernel for it
04:00 PM Tom_L: even building from kernel org they come back as preemptable desktop
04:04 PM Unterhausen: I'm not sure I'm up for building a kernel for a pi, building it for pc was enough of a pain
04:05 PM Tom_L: i tried several with no luck as far as preempt-rt
04:05 PM Unterhausen: a lot of that was because I wanted to dual boot with windows
04:06 PM Unterhausen: some of the frustration was the config tool
04:07 PM roycroft: i cross-compiled a preempt-rt kernel for a pi on an amd64 machine once
04:07 PM roycroft: that was not fun
04:07 PM Tom_L: i did that but not this time
04:07 PM Tom_L: worked ok
04:07 PM roycroft: yeah, it worked fine
04:07 PM roycroft: it was the setting up the cross-compiler environment that was a chore
04:07 PM Unterhausen: I have built many linux kernels in the past. But I was surprised when I finally got one to work this last time
04:07 PM Tom_L: just a little quicker but more a pita
04:08 PM Tom_L: maybe a wash due to the setup time
04:08 PM Unterhausen: the first one I built had horrible latency
04:09 PM Unterhausen: then I got pcw's config and it has good latency
04:14 PM travis_farmer: back... what'd i miss?
04:14 PM XXCoder: everything
04:14 PM travis_farmer: i could check logs, but they are still broken
04:15 PM roycroft: issippi is what you missed
04:15 PM travis_farmer: oh wait... loga are back...
04:16 PM travis_farmer: ... i was correcting, not asking, c-log...
04:16 PM _unreal_: XXCoder, "nice" I read travis_farmer statement and said the same thing before reading down
04:17 PM _unreal_: ok so i just finish cleaning my mini chip/dust collector. preping to make a PCB.
04:17 PM _unreal_: been a while. I'm going to have to brush up on some "university TUBE" on the kicad/pcb to gcode converter program.
04:18 PM _unreal_: flatcam
04:19 PM _unreal_: killing me. I have some extra I/O on the attiny85... but I cant think of any features to add to it that I need.
04:19 PM travis_farmer: Modbus control
04:19 PM _unreal_: just wondering but does anyone in here have any interest in my setup that I'm building for there own needs? The setup is this
04:19 PM _unreal_: travis_farmer, only 2 I/O left
04:20 PM _unreal_: the setup is this:
04:20 PM _unreal_: attiny85, 1 pot, 2 PWM output. An enable/disable pin.
04:23 PM _unreal_: the working setup is this. the one POT controls pwm1 from 0-100% output by reading 0-50% of the POT input. 51-100% trim pot input controls PWM2 from 0-100% pwm output. When the POT input is 51% or higher input. PWM1 remains at 100% output. and if pwm input is below 51% PWM2 output is at 0.
04:24 PM _unreal_: it also has some other features. It is setup with a SOFT start. and every 60 seconds the PWM outputs switch there value and RAMP up or down to the alternat value.
04:24 PM travis_farmer: i have a whole pile of ATmega328PU chips i haven't used yet... plus i just got a Arduino Giga i have been experimenting with.
04:24 PM _unreal_: that way the load on the compressors is even.
04:25 PM Tom_L: _unreal_, i got a pile of the usb ones
04:25 PM _unreal_: usb one's? dont know what that means
04:25 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/boards/new_batch/USB_chips.jpg
04:26 PM Tom_L: mega32U2
04:26 PM _unreal_: oh... what cha using them for???
04:26 PM Tom_L: nothing now
04:26 PM _unreal_: what WERE you using them for?
04:26 PM Tom_L: programmer
04:26 PM _unreal_: ..... Have you used them for anything
04:27 PM travis_farmer: that is a pile, Tom_L ;-)
04:27 PM Tom_L: ISP TPI PDI
04:28 PM Tom_L: haven't messed with avr in quite a while now
04:29 PM travis_farmer: i like this ISP programmer :-) http://www.crossroadsfencing.com/BobuinoRev17/Programmer.html
04:29 PM Tom_L: what's that for?
04:30 PM Tom_L: seems rather overkill for a programmer
04:30 PM travis_farmer: it is a standalone programmer. like for field programming
04:30 PM Tom_L: mmm
04:30 PM JT-Shop: glad I printed that invoice and read it before mounting the rear tires
04:31 PM Tom_L: :)
04:31 PM Tom_L: they generally tell you what they did when you pick up your vehicle
04:32 PM JT-Shop: this being a free service and the warranty advisor left early so I assume they could not print it out
04:33 PM Tom_L: kids are almost due for their first
04:34 PM JT-Shop: how many miles for the first service?
04:36 PM Tom_L: i'm not honestly sure but they notified us a while back for around novemberish
04:36 PM Tom_L: they younger of the 2 puts 2x the miles on his though
04:37 PM Tom_L: they'll probably send emails out when it gets closer
04:37 PM Tom_L: i'm sure they keep track of the onstar data
04:37 PM JT-Shop: I'd bet
04:38 PM Tom_L: one stupid thing i noticed
04:38 PM Unterhaus_: XXCoder I thought I heard you mention a script for hexchat?
04:38 PM JT-Shop: I'm going to drop onstar from the C8, I don't use any of their stuff and the free stuff is all I need
04:38 PM Tom_L: they both have firmware updates to do but you have to be in the vehicle with it off to do the and they're like 15 min
04:38 PM XXCoder: Unterhaus_: I made one that gets rid of repeative join/leaves wothout saying stuff yeah
04:39 PM Unterhaus_: in python?
04:39 PM Tom_L: one tried doing it and getting out and it cancelled
04:39 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
04:39 PM JT-Shop: I just put the C8 in maintenance mode and start the update and walk away
04:39 PM Tom_L: we cancelled the pay part too
04:39 PM JT-Shop: it reminds you to take your key with you lol
04:39 PM Tom_L: aparently you can't get out on these.. i haven't tried it myself
04:40 PM Tom_L: or they haven't figured out how yet
04:56 PM JT-Shop: the C8 even tells you that you don't have to sit in the car while it updates
04:58 PM Tom_L: i'm sure you don't have to stay but i haven't looked at it myself yet
04:59 PM Tom_L: that would be foolish
05:03 PM _unreal_: wow KICAD just crashed hard on me
05:03 PM JT-Shop: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/840589671034208/?ref=browse_tab&referral_code=marketplace_top_picks&referral_story_type=top_picks
05:03 PM JT-Shop: anyone want a 1980 455 firebird?
05:03 PM XXCoder: wow thats barely used at all
05:09 PM roycroft: with the price of fuel these days i'm thinking of getting an e-bike
05:09 PM roycroft: not a 1980 firebird that measures fuel consumption in gallons per mile :)
05:10 PM JT-Shop: I enjoy riding my mountain bike e conversion
05:11 PM JT-Shop: I don't think that firebird uses fuel anymore... maybe when it caught fire it used some
05:15 PM Unterhausen: that firebird don't burn gas, the engine is locked up
05:16 PM Unterhausen: can't get it inspected because it has no floorboards
05:16 PM Unterhausen: it has the extremely rare external combustion engine
05:16 PM JT-Shop: lol
05:19 PM roycroft: when i get the flux capacitor i'll think about driving a muscle car
05:20 PM Unterhausen: when I get the flux capacitor, I would get a sprinter
05:22 PM JT-Shop: you already have a muscle truck
05:37 PM roycroft: yes, i do, and i hardly ever drive it
05:37 PM roycroft: and when i do, it runs on renewable fuel
05:38 PM roycroft: so it has an almost zero carbon footprint
05:42 PM JT-Shop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UTlrgh78-g
05:46 PM JT-Shop: I like the bow saw he has
05:55 PM Tom_L: nice n compact
06:00 PM skunkworks: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/rJxvGKUHJAs
06:01 PM Tom_L: cutting wood screws?
06:01 PM Tom_L: :)
06:02 PM skunkworks: lol - maybe. Just goofing around.
06:02 PM Tom_L: use a formula on it?
06:02 PM Tom_L: i haven't looked at G33 in a bit
06:03 PM skunkworks: Yes - a couple loops - increasing the pitch by 120% each rotation
06:03 PM skunkworks: or so
06:03 PM skunkworks: 130% i guess
06:03 PM Tom_L: i thought about that once for cutting wood screws actually
06:05 PM skunkworks: I had to do it..
06:05 PM skunkworks: https://groups.io/g/MachCNC/topic/lathe_g_code_question_issue/98835085?p=,,,20,0,0,0::recentpostdate/sticky,,,20,2,0,98835085,previd%3D9223372036854775807,nextid%3D1662828674277077564&previd=9223372036854775807&nextid=1662828674277077564
06:06 PM Tom_L: oh, i remember that
06:09 PM JT-Shop: night
06:10 PM Tom_L: night
06:57 PM roycroft: https://twitter.com/Enezator/status/1706775399496351967?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1706775399496351967%7Ctwgr%5E7d8a5637501bb21fe48187a47458001d6b4af43d%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.huffpost.com%2Fentry%2Fcats-dogs-funniest-tweets-sept-23-29_n_6516faa3e4b0e237dcdfd75b
06:57 PM roycroft: i'm not one to paste links to cat videos often
06:58 PM roycroft: and ack! that is a long one
06:58 PM * roycroft gets a shorter version
06:59 PM roycroft: https://shorturl.at/uGJ15
06:59 PM roycroft: there
06:59 PM roycroft: that one is worth watching
06:59 PM roycroft: except not for xxcoder
07:00 PM roycroft: the sound is essential for that one
07:02 PM XXCoder: interesting though lol
08:01 PM _unreal_: ok milling my PCB for this custom project
08:01 PM _unreal_: first time I've used my cnc machine in ? 6 months
08:13 PM bjorkintosh: roycroft, that was really neat.
08:19 PM skunkworks: I like her..
08:19 PM skunkworks: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/cXZqjCk7wWE
08:21 PM skunkworks: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/KnIZFlHI3-I
08:23 PM skunkworks: ok.. last one..
08:23 PM skunkworks: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/SYE8BqYygAI
08:29 PM * roycroft is afraid of what he just started
08:30 PM bjorkintosh: okay okay. my turn! ssh menu@sdf.org
08:32 PM Tom_L: must be fridan
08:32 PM Tom_L: friday
08:33 PM bjorkintosh: It is fridan
08:33 PM bjorkintosh: friday
08:33 PM _unreal_: man I dont know what the hell that was all about. my computer just did some wierd shit.. multi times in a row
08:33 PM _unreal_: first off it "LOCKED" and suspended.
08:33 PM bjorkintosh: when?
08:33 PM _unreal_: twice
08:33 PM _unreal_: dont know why?
08:34 PM _unreal_: just happend
08:34 PM bjorkintosh: trigger?
08:34 PM Tom_L: Ai
08:34 PM bjorkintosh: aye aye
08:34 PM Tom_L: talk nice to it
08:34 PM _unreal_: then it kept loosing position mainly z
08:34 PM bjorkintosh: oh. bad ground, perhaps?
08:34 PM Tom_L: and whatever you do, don't give it anything sharp
08:35 PM _unreal_: its a netbook running win10
08:35 PM _unreal_: and planetcnc
08:35 PM _unreal_: when no funny stuff ishappening it works fine
08:35 PM _unreal_: only thing is I have not run that computer in for ever. and the battery was 100% dead
08:35 PM _unreal_: didnt relize it wasnt plugged in
08:36 PM _unreal_: so I think that had something to do with it?
08:36 PM _unreal_: but ? its plugged in and charging.
08:36 PM _unreal_: and no settings were set to cause a shut down so far as I can tell
08:36 PM _unreal_: unless its some WTF bios setting?
08:38 PM _unreal_: I could be wrong but I think its lost its position again?
08:39 PM _unreal_: hard to tell now. lots of holes milled in the PCB and I know some are wrong
08:39 PM _unreal_: I dont even know that that PCB will even be useable with out a lot of solder bridging maybe?
08:39 PM _unreal_: sigh
08:42 PM _unreal_: if its loosing steps the onlything I can tink of is the link between the Y motor and the threaded rod is failing?
08:42 PM _unreal_: I'm using HOSE
08:42 PM _unreal_: but.
08:42 PM _unreal_: that stuff never fails
08:51 PM _unreal_: and I'm thinking its doing better then it was before now
08:52 PM _unreal_: not loosing its way
08:59 PM _unreal_: with out a doubt will have some minor repairs to the traces but its working now
08:59 PM _unreal_: cant wait till its fully assembled and testing
09:01 PM * roycroft can't wait until the pizza is finished baking, which should be another 3 minutes or so
09:10 PM _unreal_: looks like my traces are going to be ok
09:11 PM _unreal_: wish I knew what the voltage level was/is for these vacuum pump motors
09:11 PM _unreal_: I believe 12v
09:11 PM _unreal_: could be 24v
09:11 PM _unreal_: 20min of milling left
09:12 PM _unreal_: it will be so amazing if this thing works as well as I'm hoping it will
09:12 PM _unreal_: to run two pumps in series
09:37 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
09:38 PM roycroft: _un two pumps real_
09:53 PM _unreal_: ?
09:53 PM _unreal_: odd
09:53 PM _unreal_: so just pulled the PCB and the mess ups dont seem to be a problem at all
09:53 PM _unreal_: looks like all I have to do is a standard sanding on the copper to get rid of any burs
09:54 PM _unreal_: then locate all my parts and start soldering
09:54 PM _unreal_: and program the chip
09:54 PM _unreal_: the onlything I dont know is how much power I'm going to need
09:54 PM _unreal_: I dont know if the pumps run on 12 or 24v
09:54 PM _unreal_: but they are standard pumps from foodsavers
09:55 PM _unreal_: https://th.bing.com/th/id/R.ba308550b2ebcf763e4cf0b968e72db3?rik=4GRgyW5i6ZPZzg&riu=http%3a%2f%2fi1086.photobucket.com%2falbums%2fj460%2fMerchant_92105%2fIMAG0001-1.jpg&ehk=bFJY%2f8bGGuGh8dGFR6jZdhJ0JEPC8fRF7jzll4y77po%3d&risl=&pid=ImgRaw&r=0
09:55 PM _unreal_: for example
09:55 PM _unreal_: I doubt they draw more then 3 amps 12v
09:55 PM _unreal_: I could be wrong though who knows
09:55 PM _unreal_: I'll find out rather fast
11:30 PM Unterhausen: I'm on an email list where we got an email with an attachment. People keep opening it, so we all get it again
