#linuxcnc Calendar

01:46 AM Deejay: moin
06:06 AM JT-Cave: 2.10 works now on debian 12
06:09 AM travis_farmer: Morning :-)
06:43 AM _unreal_: so looks like most of what I'm going to be setting up for the new machine is going to be riding din rail for the control box.
06:44 AM _unreal_: what bugs me though is I have a bunch of micro computer displays that are the interface displays for yachts
06:45 AM _unreal_: you "can" re-setup there software for what ever you want. but I believe they are limited to a degree in what they can do. or at least native support for function.
06:45 AM _unreal_: would be a fun feature for cnc though.
06:45 AM _unreal_: especially for lcnc
06:46 AM _unreal_: they are all touch screen as well. they are all also running winc3
06:46 AM _unreal_: ce
06:46 AM _unreal_: little displays big displays
06:48 AM JT-Cave: rabbit and deer are having breakfast and the rooster just crowed
06:56 AM JT-Cave: Rod said the opengl error fix has been ported to 2.9... testing now
06:56 AM _unreal_: this is one of the displays I have
06:56 AM _unreal_: http://www.naviop.com/open-catalogue/display-hmi/genius-glass-series/genius-7g/
06:57 AM _unreal_: would be cool to convert it to be a UI for lcnc
07:01 AM _unreal_: hum uses JMobile Studio
07:06 AM JT-Cave: Tom_L, 2.9 opengl error has been fixed... I wonder how long that takes to get to debian
08:12 AM Tom_L: maybe i'll try building 2.10
08:14 AM Tom_L: also wonder about 2.10 on rpi
08:14 AM JT-Cave: let me know what you find out
08:15 AM JT-Cave: ugh I've configured github 2fa...
08:26 AM IAmTheRealBeef is now known as Beef
08:26 AM Scopeuk: _unreal_ that's an interesting device. Not a lot of details on the manufactures site arround setting it up/design
08:28 AM _unreal_: or as I said solve interfacing it as an LCNC UI
08:28 AM _unreal_: i'm about to print my din rail mounts for the twin micro air compressors. next print will be the mount to hold those and mount to the din rail mounts.
08:29 AM _unreal_: ..... tempted to start up the mini delta printer as well
08:29 AM _unreal_: only problem with it is that it has a scale issue. always has. it prints at like 2% smaller then the cad drawing. so I always have to upscale
08:29 AM _unreal_: very annoying.
08:40 AM _unreal_: thats odd. I restarted the print for nothing. it was acting like I had messed up and selected the wrong print. I assumed because it said I had 2min left on the print. 3min print in total. well thats the time for the test print.... when I just restarted. it said 30min print. then switched to 3min left. WTF...
08:40 AM _unreal_: i'm sure its printing the right one now but its just odd.
08:46 AM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
09:21 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, what was the nodocs config line again?
09:23 AM Tom_L: debian/configure --no-docs or debian/configure no-docs ??
09:26 AM _unreal_: is it executing a CLI command or is it reading as a statement?
09:26 AM _unreal_: -- being the difference
09:27 AM _unreal_: when this print finishes, I think I might go to the beach
09:29 AM JT-Cave: debian/configure no-docs
09:30 AM Tom_L: k, i'm writing a new bookworm img atm
09:30 AM Tom_L: then i may give it a try
09:30 AM Tom_L: on the pi
09:31 AM Tom_L: i wonder how out of date your dependency list is for it
09:32 AM Tom_L: https://www.gnipsel.com/linuxcnc-old/uspace/rpi4-emc.html
09:34 AM _unreal_: http://video-monitoring.com/beachcams/boca/
09:34 AM JT-Cave: pretty old
09:34 AM Tom_L: right
09:34 AM JT-Cave: dpkg-checkbuilddeps
09:35 AM JT-Cave: in the root directory of the clone
09:35 AM Tom_L: gotta figure out where i got this 12 img file
09:35 AM JT-Cave: that will tell you what dependencies are missing
09:35 AM _unreal_: interesting, there are some surfers out there
09:35 AM _unreal_: maybe I'll grab my boggy board.
09:36 AM _unreal_: I'm not about to dig out my surf board
09:36 AM _unreal_: hum
09:36 AM _unreal_: I think I have like 6min left on this print
09:37 AM _unreal_: first print is done and clips onto the din rail wonderfully
09:37 AM _unreal_: I'm going to mount the din rail to the back plane board inside the electrical box. with HD isolation mounts
09:38 AM _unreal_: trying to minimize the vibs that the two compressors will generate inside the box
09:38 AM _unreal_: they will also sit on tin rubber or foam
09:38 AM _unreal_: and have pads under the zip ties holding them down
09:38 AM _unreal_: with rubber or foam under them.
09:38 AM _unreal_: I dont know that the motors will get hot?
09:39 AM _unreal_: I really dont know
09:39 AM _unreal_: so it will be an interesting experiment.
09:39 AM _unreal_: maybe I'll add a fan over them if needed
10:26 AM _unreal_: just started my mount print. looking at 4 hours
10:26 AM _unreal_: :) cant wait till its done
10:27 AM _unreal_: then I can mount the twin compressors
10:27 AM _unreal_: and then I have a reason to start building the controller for it
10:27 AM _unreal_: I have a bunch of MOS modules
10:28 AM _unreal_: take a look. LOL dude is getting a parking ticket http://video-monitoring.com/beachcams/boca/pics/s4/sep1723q/s241103o.jpg
10:28 AM _unreal_: looks like the wave action is good
10:29 AM _unreal_: now I'm getting ready to grab my board
10:29 AM _unreal_: still not going to surf. just boggy board
11:00 AM Tom_L: ok the upgrade brought the kernel up to 6.1.21 from 5.xx so that's good
11:00 AM travis_farmer: for rpi?
11:00 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
11:00 AM JT-Shop: I didn't get any time out errors running it
11:01 AM Tom_dev: Linux rpi4 6.1.21-v8+ #1642 SMP PREEMPT Mon Apr 3 17:24:16 BST 2023 aarch64 GNU/Linux
11:01 AM Tom_L: that's not rt though
11:03 AM Tom_L: probably have to build it to get rt
11:06 AM travis_farmer: is this the correct arch for rpi4? arm64? https://packages.debian.org/bullseye/linux-image-rt-arm64
11:06 AM Tom_L: depends if you're running armhf or arm64
11:07 AM travis_farmer: what is the difference?
11:07 AM _unreal_: so heading to the beach. http://video-monitoring.com/beachcams/boca/ yall may see me in the water. YELLOW boggy board. and yellow shorts. WHEN I get there.
11:07 AM Tom_L: 32 or 64bit
11:07 AM JT-Shop: 32 bits
11:07 AM _unreal_: stopping into the restore first. see if there are any good finds.
11:07 AM travis_farmer: ahh, ok
11:07 AM _unreal_: :)
11:07 AM Tom_L: 5.xx kernel sux
11:08 AM travis_farmer: linuxcnc won't run on 64 bit?
11:08 AM Tom_L: of course it will
11:09 AM travis_farmer: oh, i see, 5.10.... dang
11:11 AM travis_farmer: will bookworm run on rpi4? it has the 6.1.52-1 RT kernel
11:12 AM Tom_L: where did you find the preempt-rt kernel?
11:13 AM travis_farmer: not preempt, just RT
11:13 AM travis_farmer: https://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=linux-image-rt
11:13 AM Tom_L: i'm running bookworm on rpi4
11:14 AM travis_farmer: midway on that list is arm64
11:15 AM JT-Shop: nap time
11:16 AM Tom_L: try it and see
11:18 AM travis_farmer: how did you get a bookworm image? all i found was bullseye for rpi4...
11:18 AM Tom_L: alot of searching
11:18 AM Tom_L: i'm not sure where i found it
11:18 AM travis_farmer: oh
11:18 AM Tom_L: do a dist upgrade from bullseye
11:19 AM Tom_L: that should get you there
11:19 AM travis_farmer: ok, nature calls first, then burn a bullseye image :-)
11:19 AM travis_farmer: i will...
11:22 AM Tom_L: that should take you til mid afternoon
11:22 AM Tom_L: :)
11:45 AM Unterhausen: I got a measuring tool that's supposed to be 142mm wide, but it's 145mm wide. Trying to remember where I bought it
11:55 AM travis_farmer: well, that wont happen, my Rpi4 thing... my monitor kept going on and off and on and off... until i drove a screwdriver through it. it was always a POS monitor anyway...
11:57 AM travis_farmer: i never dealt well with faulty technology...
12:16 PM asdfasd: I have one brand new 3 phase pump for sale, 2.2kw, 6 stage I think, 10HM06S22T5RVBE, if anyone interested...
12:17 PM asdfasd: Im in UK, london
12:18 PM JT-Shop: water pump?
12:18 PM asdfasd: I think so, it look like stainless
12:19 PM Tom_L: wtf does building a kernel need qt5??
12:19 PM JT-Shop: the config tool uses it
12:20 PM jpa-: if you enable the graphical kconfig, that is
12:25 PM travis_farmer: bought a new cheap monitor from amazon for my Rpi... hated to, but it is important to have a spare monitor...
12:27 PM Tom_L: jpa-, what's the alternative?
12:27 PM Tom_L: not sure it's available for rpi
12:27 PM jpa-: i always use the ncurses based one in console
12:28 PM jpa-: "make menuconfig"
12:28 PM Tom_L: i could cross compile i suppose
12:28 PM Tom_L: trying to get 6.1.54 preempt-rt on it
12:29 PM Tom_L: that seems a bit better..
12:31 PM Beef: most of the guys running linuxcnc on an rpi are using https://github.com/scottalford75/Remora and interfacing with an external board through the GPIO
12:31 PM Beef: that i've heard of anyway
12:32 PM Beef: Drew has a board he put together for the purpose as well https://github.com/Expatria-Technologies/Flexi-HAL
12:32 PM Tom_L: i don't see where to select fully preemptable rt
12:33 PM Tom_L: pretty sure i applied the patch
12:33 PM JT-Shop: it's a bit tricky to find
12:33 PM Tom_L: yeah i'm used to xconfig
12:33 PM JT-Shop: the gui config you can do ctrl k to search
12:33 PM Tom_L: right, i'm not using that due to qt5
12:34 PM Tom_L: i'll back up and make sure i applied the patch
12:44 PM Tom_L: 'preemptable kernel' low latency desktop
12:44 PM Tom_L: that doesn't sound like full preempt-rt
12:48 PM JT-Shop: should say fully preemptable
12:48 PM Tom_L: right.. back to kernel.org
12:49 PM JT-Shop: kept hearing some banging going on finally found some turtles copulating by the garage door
12:51 PM Tom_L: on the patches is there a way to tell if when it says 'rt' that it is fully preemptable?
12:52 PM Tom_L: maybe i'll try 6.4.0 .. that's what is on the pc
12:52 PM JT-Shop: I don't remember
12:55 PM Tom_L: also there are rt6 rt7 rt8.. dunno what that means either
01:20 PM JT-Shop: crap the bp mill wants me to log in and won't complete the login
01:21 PM roycroft: maybe it's been hacked
01:21 PM roycroft: is it making random parts?
01:21 PM Tom_L: ok that patch has dozens of files in it.. should i apply them all?
01:26 PM asdfasd: anyone seen rob_h recently ?
01:26 PM XXCoder: turtles may be hacking it ;)
01:36 PM Tom_L: mmm still just low latency desktop
01:39 PM JT-Shop: won't boot to recovery mode either
01:41 PM Tom_L: haven't installed one yet. can't fing a preempt-rt patch that has full preempt
01:41 PM Tom_L: find
01:41 PM Tom_L: oh. your mill
01:42 PM Tom_L: i thought you charged the cap yesterday
01:42 PM JT-Shop: that was on the VMC
01:42 PM Tom_L: ahh
01:42 PM JT-Shop: it's a 386
01:44 PM Tom_L: all these rpi links still point to 4.19 or 5.xx something...
01:44 PM Tom_L: not much help
01:45 PM Tom_L: pcw--home, what 6.xx kernel were you testing?
01:54 PM Tom_L: nm.. 6.4
02:00 PM travis_farmer: well this sucks... the med i take, Apilify, is now in short supply and my Rx is having trouble getting it... i have been off it since tuesday, waiting for them... and it really is not going well for me :-(
02:22 PM roycroft: is that medication on the list that will be price-negotiated for medicare?
02:22 PM roycroft: i've heard the pharmaceutical companies are playing games with some meds to try to prevent the price haggling
02:24 PM CaptHindsight: Abilify generic (aripiprazole)
02:24 PM CaptHindsight: not on the list
02:25 PM roycroft: then it's just weird
02:25 PM roycroft: but not necessarily conspiracy weird
02:28 PM CaptHindsight: https://costplusdrugs.com/medications/aripiprazole-10mg-tablet/
02:28 PM CaptHindsight: a billionaire that actually is making a profit and helping everyone
02:29 PM CaptHindsight: Every product we sell is priced exactly the same way: our cost plus 15%, plus the pharmacy fee, if any.
02:31 PM roycroft: but it's the cost from the drug manufacturer that is the problem with many drugs
02:31 PM CaptHindsight: there are shortages of many drugs used for mental health in the USA
02:31 PM roycroft: cost + 15% is still not good if cost is artificially high
02:31 PM roycroft: well, there's a serious shortage of mental health in the usa
02:31 PM CaptHindsight: it's like oil, they just produce less on purpose
02:32 PM roycroft: as witnessed in part by the daily mass-shootings
02:32 PM roycroft: and as witnessed in larger part by the members of the majority party in the house of representatives and their ilk
02:32 PM CaptHindsight: yeah at least Biden is starting to negotiate
02:33 PM travis_farmer: somehow i started a political conversation.... :-/
02:33 PM CaptHindsight: medical and pharma has lobbied for years to keep the profit margins high
02:34 PM CaptHindsight: not really, just old news
02:34 PM CaptHindsight: if the pope shits in the woods it's not religion, just facts
02:35 PM CaptHindsight: worshiping said shit is another topic
02:55 PM roycroft: you know i'm pretty whack-a-mole about such things these days anyway
02:55 PM roycroft: i say what i'm going to say and then i move on without prolonged discussion
02:59 PM JT-Woodshop: it's raining perfectly vertical and pretty hard
03:14 PM JT-Shop: roycroft, https://youtu.be/batKoqXAQcw?t=604 so with a festool track saw you don't need to clamp it down?
04:39 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
05:01 PM XXCoder: roycroft: oh about sports https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/16qppb5/my_friends_are_super_stoked_about_football_season/
05:29 PM Tom_L: removed
05:30 PM JT-Shop: ?
05:31 PM XXCoder: should be still able to see picture
05:31 PM Tom_L: not from my chair
05:31 PM JT-Shop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zp_jegnvkTU
05:31 PM JT-Shop: pizza
05:31 PM XXCoder: maybe different chair will help ;)
05:31 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, not much luck finding a preempt-rt kernel for rpi
05:31 PM XXCoder: a second
05:31 PM JT-Shop: hmm
05:31 PM XXCoder: https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/763328871906017280/1155631960715169852/6py0rsxn65qb1.png
05:32 PM Tom_L: the ones i tried came back preempt desktop or such
05:33 PM Tom_L: he must really like pizza
05:34 PM JT-Shop: looked good to me
05:34 PM Tom_L: yeah
05:39 PM JT-Shop: left over pizza from Durso Hills tonight
05:45 PM JT-Shop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cRmggXU_Dg
05:48 PM Unterhausen: JT, when is Mesact going to get it's own subforum on lcnc.org?
05:49 PM JT-Shop: good question, I could do that any time :)
05:51 PM JT-Shop: wouldn't that make Chris happy...
05:59 PM * JT-Shop calls it a night
06:46 PM skunkworks: Sunday already
06:46 PM XXCoder: yeah and in 2 days it'll be sunday again
06:53 PM skunkworks: give or take
07:40 PM Getty9 is now known as Getty
08:11 PM acer: well sun of a gun there I am http://video-monitoring.com/beachcams/boca/pics/s11/sep2123l/s241631e.jpg
