01:59 AM Deejay: moin
02:48 AM travis_farmer: Morning :-)
04:22 AM Tom_L: morning
05:27 AM JT-Cave: morning
06:27 AM mrec: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005582585390.html
06:27 AM mrec: I did not know that those cutters are called "Flying Noodles Tool Holder"
06:30 AM travis_farmer: lol
06:32 AM mrec: working in China must be fun for a westerner. CNC Mill is probably a rice making machine
06:41 AM rigid: JT-Shop: raspberrry compute modules are raspberry pi's with less peripherals, smaller form factor, PCIe bus and certified for industrial use
06:49 AM JT-Cave: rooster just crowed
07:08 AM JT-Cave: rigid, thanks
07:37 AM IAmTheRealBeef is now known as Beef
07:37 AM Beef: I love the Rigol scopes skunkworks - I have a MSO5074 and it's worth its weight in gold
07:39 AM JT-Cave: the cp4?
07:40 AM Tom_L: cm4
07:40 AM Tom_L: the pi thing
07:40 AM JT-Cave: yup c(something)4 lol
07:40 AM Tom_L: :)
07:42 AM Tom_L: the broadcom chips could be an issue too from what i recall of conversations here
07:44 AM Tom_L: looks like you need a carrier board for it as well
07:46 AM Tom_L: i'd think something that new would support USB3
07:59 AM JT-Cave: https://youtu.be/3SLU_Cp2sI8
08:04 AM * JT-Cave starts his chicken day
08:06 AM Tom_L: updated video a bit
08:11 AM Tom_L: XXCoder, thought you might like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCXu8Ju_fdY
08:47 AM JT-Cave: that's pretty cool
08:48 AM * JT-Cave builds 2.9 again to see if the opengl issue is fixed
08:51 AM JT-Cave: crap should have done debian/configure --no-docs
08:52 AM Tom_L: sure be alot quicker :)
08:52 AM JT-Cave: hmm should have been debian/configure no-docs
08:53 AM travis_farmer: lol
08:53 AM JT-Cave: I ctrl c'ed it
08:56 AM JT-Cave: they should have never bowed to the ah and changed the name from the original NIST name Enhanced Machine Controller
09:08 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, so you have to build in order to get the updated mesa changes for 2.9?
09:13 AM Tom_L: btw, those ah aren't using the name now anyway
09:20 AM JT-Cave: those?
09:21 AM JT-Cave: if you're using the debian version of linuxcnc it would be a long time before you see an update I "think"
09:22 AM JT-Cave: emc still has the opengl error
09:24 AM * JT-Cave goes to clean chicken shit
09:24 AM Tom_L: 'those' the ones that made emc change the name
09:27 AM JT-Cave: yup the corp emc2 got swallowed up by dell
09:27 AM JT-Cave: so those ah's are gone
09:28 AM Tom_L: build from source works though?
09:29 AM JT-Cave: yup, just won't run
09:30 AM Tom_L: better stick with what i have for now then
09:56 AM JT-Cave: and if you build from source you can't do any git commands any more because the build changes files
09:57 AM Tom_L: ?
09:57 AM Tom_L: that doesn't sound right
09:57 AM JT-Cave: that's what happens for sure, try it and see
09:58 AM Tom_L: no, i believe you. no point in wasting time verifying that
09:58 AM JT-Cave: you can't even checkout another branch lol
09:58 AM Tom_L: when i build i always start with a fresh git clone .. checkout
09:58 AM Tom_L: but i don't build that often
10:00 AM Tom_L: off to the store
10:07 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
10:07 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
10:07 AM Beef: You can see out how Joco-NZ's script gets 2.9 to build (https://github.com/joco-nz/lcnc-bullseye-installer/blob/main/install_for_lcnc.sh) with the no-docs config, although you may have already understood this these steps from JT-Cave's explanation
10:07 AM JT-Shop: lol
10:08 AM Beef: I assume Tom is not a new guy by any means, so if I'm stepping on toes just let me know
10:10 AM travis_farmer: tom and jt are good friends ;-)
10:12 AM Beef: I'm the new guy, I recognize a few names from the forums but have no context so thanks
10:12 AM travis_farmer: no problem :-)
10:13 AM JT-Shop: and we all three work on Mesa CT to some degree
10:13 AM JT-Shop: :)
10:14 AM travis_farmer: :-)
10:32 AM _unreal_: jdh, plc running dos?
10:36 AM jdh: it's a custom TIG power supply with an incredible soft-starter that is reliable at 1atm helium
10:55 AM JT-Shop: nap time
11:14 AM CaptHindsight: mrec: the Chinese were buying up many older western machine tools, and they do make a few of their own
11:16 AM Tom_L: Beef, i avoid the forum... i like instant gratification
11:22 AM Beef: I can't tell if you're being facetious
11:22 AM Tom_L: :)
11:23 AM Beef: Don't quite understand what you're getting at
11:28 AM Beef: Can you explain what you mean Tom_L? Because your joke went over my head
11:38 AM Tom_L: i like irc better
11:43 AM Beef: Forums have continuity and work better for a log of things - IRC is more beneficial for solving a quick problem although when it comes to this trajectory stuff I haven't had any of the few questions answered over the last week in IRC either lol - and probably because everyone is sick of new guys attempting it until there's some proof in the pudding
11:43 AM Tom_L: they both have a place
11:44 AM Tom_L: most here don't go trajectory deep... some but few
11:48 AM Tom_L: besides, we can't talk about chickens on the forum
11:49 AM mrec: CaptHindsight: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004373287232.html
11:50 AM mrec: Many uses: This ball nut can be used for big pitching, such as baseball, football, basketball, hockey, tennis, golf, etc.
11:51 AM mrec: I wonder how that ball nut performs when playing baseball with it
11:51 AM Beef: Tom_L https://forum.linuxcnc.org/51-ot-posts I mean there's a forum category dedicated to it! But I guess its unlikely that many people care all that much. I had 12 chickens a long time ago ... way too many eggs to deal with for one house
11:52 AM Beef: mrec Chinese Chatgpt at work there it looks like
11:52 AM Beef: '=D
11:56 AM CaptHindsight: "big pitching"
11:56 AM CaptHindsight: not sure what that means "in my mind"
11:58 AM roycroft: different strokes for different folks
11:58 AM roycroft: that's why we have choices
12:10 PM _unreal_: jdh, nifty
12:10 PM _unreal_: jdh, I have a bunch of PLC systems in storage somewhere
12:10 PM _unreal_: lots of plc din mount logic and i/o specialty cards
12:11 PM _unreal_: iI have plans for them in the future. when EVER I escape my current issue.
12:28 PM * JT-Shop fires up the VMC just to charge the cap on the 386 motherboard
12:29 PM JT-Shop: I wonder how long is long enough
12:30 PM Tom_L: may as well cut some chips while you're there
12:30 PM Tom_L: a simple power up should charge the cap
12:30 PM Tom_L: not like charging a battery
12:31 PM Tom_L: i put leds on my psu so when i turn it off, they bleed the caps down
12:31 PM Tom_L: doesn't take very long
12:32 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/psu/caps2.jpg
12:33 PM JT-Shop: if I don't charge it then I have to reset the bios
12:33 PM Tom_L: a reminder how that works wouldn't be so bad either
12:33 PM Tom_L: i had to do that for my bud once
12:34 PM Tom_L: loading all the tool change code etc
12:34 PM Tom_L: but he'd swapped out motherboards
12:35 PM Tom_L: that was when we discovered his serial cable had gone bad
12:35 PM Tom_L: luckily he had 2 machines so we borrowed a cable for that
12:35 PM JT-Shop: I remember that
12:36 PM Tom_L: he tried to sell one but cartage costs more than they're worth
12:36 PM Tom_L: i need to pay him a visit.. last time i was out his shop door was locked and it never is
12:37 PM JT-Shop: hmm
12:37 PM Tom_L: hoping he was just on vacation or off on a delivery
12:37 PM Tom_L: he'd called a couple weeks prior asking about a pc
12:38 PM Tom_L: i know he finally quit racing
12:38 PM Tom_L: he's only 79
12:38 PM JT-Shop: young whipper snapper
12:39 PM Tom_L: smarter than most 'kids'
12:39 PM * JT-Shop goes to see if the wife is up from her nap yet... going to Durso Hills
12:39 PM Tom_L: his dad used to restore stearmans
12:40 PM Tom_L: and did crop dusting with one when he was still around
12:41 PM JT-Shop: you don't see any stearmans any more
12:41 PM Tom_L: iirc he had the largest parts inventory in the US for them
12:41 PM Tom_L: maybe at an air show but that's about it
12:42 PM Tom_L: had a couple hangars and a dirt air strip by his house
12:45 PM roycroft: i guess i should wait for the mail to come today
12:45 PM Tom_L: expecting toys?
12:45 PM roycroft: i've been looking for the shaper trace software so i can have my ipad ready for it, but i can't find it anywhere
12:46 PM roycroft: i assume the shaper trace will come with instructions for downloading the app
12:48 PM roycroft: i was holding out on making custom inserts for the tool drawers in the top of my fastener cabinets until my cnc router was built
12:49 PM roycroft: but one drawer in particular has about $1500 worth of chisels that are loose, and could nick each other if i'm not careful, so i thought that making an insert to hold them in place soon would be good, and the shaper trace should make that pretty easy to do
12:52 PM Beef: let me know how it goes - I had done a similar project to make foam inserts for my tools into milwaukee packout boxes but had done it the old fashioned way with a silver sharpie and an exacto knife. Overall was happy but it's not quite as clean as something done on the computer
12:55 PM roycroft: folks who have had their hands on the prototypes say it works really well
12:55 PM roycroft: it's not going to be a major part of my workflow, but i got in on day one of the kickstarter, and it only cost me $69
12:55 PM roycroft: if i had to pay $200 for it i don't think i would have gotten it
12:58 PM roycroft: the big drawback from what i've seen is that it's pretty small - the frame is 268mm x 178mm
12:58 PM roycroft: for my chisels i may need to trace the blade and the handle separately
12:59 PM roycroft: which actually is fine, as i'll want to make the handle cutouts deeper than the blade cutouts
01:08 PM JT-Shop: I want to see photos of it when you're done
01:10 PM roycroft: sure
01:10 PM roycroft: i don't know how i'm going to do it yet
01:11 PM roycroft: i figure i'll use the shaper trace to trace each chisel
01:11 PM roycroft: and then use illustrator or inkscape to do the layout, importing all the svg files
01:11 PM roycroft: or may be i'll use cut2d, since i own that software now
01:12 PM roycroft: and maybe it's finally time to buy a router cutter for bowls
01:33 PM Beef: i'm too young to even know what a baloney holder is tbh
01:33 PM CaptHindsight: the oscar meyer kind , not talking about modern porn
01:34 PM Beef: lol
01:37 PM JT-Shop: I think some walnut for the inbetween layers
01:39 PM JT-Shop: you can bend almost any wood without splinters if you hold it right
01:39 PM JT-Shop: you can't let it expand it must compress in the bend area
02:06 PM XXCoder: Tom_L: yeah I remember that video. pretty amazinf isnt it
02:14 PM XXCoder: huh video is 7 days old. I watched one way older than that. re-up or someone else? I remember that annoying guy being in it though
02:27 PM IAmTheRealBeef is now known as Beef
02:47 PM travis_farmer: i go to watch a movie, and when i come back, JT is saying he needs a holder for his meat??? what the heck has happened to the place???
02:48 PM XXCoder: what s meaty subject
02:48 PM travis_farmer: lol
02:50 PM travis_farmer: all i know, you really don't want splinters on something holding your meat...
02:54 PM travis_farmer: i was never into baloney so much i needed a rack for it. could make for a neat wine or 2-liter soda bottle rack though... ;-)
02:59 PM travis_farmer: in other news...
03:01 PM travis_farmer: i have been buying the last few things i need for my machine to be able to make some money with it, and suddenly find myself down to the last $200 from my tax return, having not bought a single bit of lumber for my new shed... :-( so now i have GOT TO make money with my machine!
03:06 PM Tom_L: got a business plan?
03:07 PM travis_farmer: i hope to make some simple signs and sell them on FB marketplace to get my name out there. but other than than, i don't even know where to sart...
03:08 PM travis_farmer: can't spell either... lol
03:09 PM XXCoder: fixing roof and adding skylight https://youtu.be/lfdlnug9ooo
03:09 PM XXCoder: man that channel have turned into house restore channel lately but still good
03:10 PM Beef: what can you cut on your machine material wise?
03:10 PM travis_farmer: wood, maybe light aluminum if i am careful (and history has shown i am not)
03:11 PM Beef: a lot of the more decorative stuff has been saturated by anybody and everybody with a random alu frame router unfortunately
03:14 PM Beef: hm, that's a little bit limiting but you can still do stuff like ACM signage, some custom labeled control panels (like for dashboards or equipment), simple things like wall hooks, some of those cool mandelas that are layered plywood, some custom engravings on things ... (still thinking)
03:14 PM travis_farmer: my area is unsaturated. the local sign shop does decal signs
03:16 PM Beef: custom woodworker jigs, stencils, stamps, inlays or custom handles (or shift knobs lol), clocks
03:17 PM travis_farmer: the list goes on, but i need to get my name out first ;-)
03:18 PM Beef: it's a chicken and egg problem lol
03:19 PM travis_farmer: yeah...
03:24 PM travis_farmer: i am sure the locals will love when i have the machine running through the night, too... some designs just take a while to carve. i have yet to carve a real design yet as i have trust issues... (not in the machine... in my programing of it)
03:54 PM _unreal_: slowly putting together all the parts building the control box for the new cnc machine
03:54 PM _unreal_: maybe that will give me drive to finish the machine its self
03:54 PM _unreal_: its not far from being re-done
03:55 PM _unreal_: I just finished redefining the code for the mcu to drive my twin compressors.o
03:58 PM _unreal_: At this point I have coded it to function like this. enable/disable pin, POT input for speed control. The code is setup to drive both PWM outputs based on the value of the POT in series. 0-50% POT=pwm1 51-100%=pwm2. if pot is 51% or more PWM 1 REMAINS on and if analog is below 51% pwm2 output turns off. so more or less is ramps output one 0-100,then output 2 0-100% giving 200% output at max.
04:01 PM _unreal_: Then on top of that I have added code to RAMP start on first start. AND I have set it up to have the output values of pwm 1 and 2 switch every 60s and ramp to those values rather then a hard switch. That way both compressors get about an even run time and even load. Much better then always having PWM1 running at 100% if i'm only using output totals of 50%-100% of total output.
04:01 PM _unreal_: thoughts?
04:05 PM _unreal_: as to the hardware. I pulled two food savor vacuum systems apart. +air or -air pressure does not matter. I'm not planning on ever using them to compress air, but rather push air out a fine tip to clear chips. The two compressors I have are piston based. I do have 2 that are diaphragm based. But I believe the piston one's have a greater volume displacement
04:08 PM _unreal_: What is interesting, the MTF or mean time to failure for both of them is 100k hours as a vacuum pump. So I figure if I'm using them as positive air with a good air filter and in SLI like function. I would "ASSUME" they will last the duration of the cnc machines life.
04:08 PM _unreal_: thoughts?
04:19 PM roycroft: the foodsaver folks can probalby claim a 100k hour mtbf because the average foodsaver owner uses the thing for about 6 hours before it gets put in the back of the cupboard to collect dust for 10 years before it goes out to the garage sale
04:48 PM _unreal_: roycroft, that is the working MTF of the compressor..... not the end user use expectations. THOUGH!!!!! beyond that I have no argument to what you said. could not be more accurate.
04:48 PM _unreal_: elbow elbow
04:57 PM mrec: seems like I was able to dump the firmware of the JMC ihsv57 motor
04:59 PM _unreal_: cool
05:01 PM mrec: now I just need a new stm32f103rct6 for testing
05:02 PM mrec: it would be easy to clone their motors now...
05:02 PM Tom_L: heh, still got a stm32F4 in a blister pack when they were giving them out
05:02 PM mrec: the closed loop fw has around 83k
05:05 PM CAKESLOB: sorry, non cnc question here
05:05 PM CAKESLOB: but you guys are smartest guys i know
05:05 PM CAKESLOB: should the PTO on my lawntractor be spinning free when not engaged?
05:06 PM Tom_L: under load?
05:06 PM Tom_L: it may freewheel a bit
05:07 PM CAKESLOB: like, i took the belt off and the tractor is turned off
05:07 PM CAKESLOB: should it be like....
05:07 PM CAKESLOB: no resistance
05:07 PM CAKESLOB: like spinning a bearing,
05:08 PM CAKESLOB: or is it not suppossed to spin smooth because of the clutch plates or something
05:10 PM Tom_L: is it from a gearbox? could be the thick grease letting it turn some
05:15 PM _unreal_: mrec, are you trying to rebuild the JMC ihsv57 using OTC hardware? more or less?
05:15 PM _unreal_: considering the JMC ihsv57 is BLDC based what driver would you use in conjunction with the stm32xxx
05:16 PM _unreal_: if you are/were to DIY it
05:17 PM CAKESLOB: Tom_L doesnt feel like a gearbox, it spins pretty easy but just not smoothly. im trying to figure out why my mower deck has madddd vibrations today.
05:17 PM mrec: _unreal_: I burned one STM32F103 a chip went into the enclosure
05:18 PM mrec: I'm just trying to recover that motor
05:18 PM _unreal_: burned? so you were using an stm32 to begin with?
05:18 PM mrec: https://i.snipboard.io/1yE0Rm.jpg
05:19 PM mrec: the older JMC motors use an STM32F103
05:19 PM mrec: newer ones use an ARM chip from another company
05:19 PM Tom_L: CAKESLOB, maybe a bearing is going
05:20 PM _unreal_: mrec, I see ya got some jump wires in there as ewll
05:20 PM _unreal_: well if you can recover the firmware and burn to a new one. no reason you cant recover it. unless one of the drive IC's has f'ed
05:21 PM CAKESLOB: Tom_L yeah  im trying to narrow it down to which one, and i was wondering if it was the PTO bearing but i dont know what it is supossed to feel like
05:21 PM _unreal_: how did the stm get messed up?
05:22 PM mrec: picopwner
05:22 PM _unreal_: CAKESLOB, check the bearing see if its dry. If there is a chance the radial bearing got side load. the races may be warn. if the seal on the bearing has failed there may be material getting into the race and degrading the bearing.
05:22 PM _unreal_: mrec, ?
05:23 PM mrec: the stm32 burned, an aluminum chip shorted it
05:23 PM mrec: the rs232 connector can do that
05:23 PM mrec: everything's protected just that sucker isn't
05:23 PM _unreal_: CAKESLOB, is the free spin smooth? or jumpy. is there resistance like its engaging a gear? if so is there a hitch in the rotation at a certain point? could be a gear as well but I would always look at bearings first. unless there is a clear tooth issue.
05:24 PM _unreal_: mrec, ahh so it got over 3v
05:24 PM _unreal_: :S
05:24 PM _unreal_: o.O interesting you got the stm code read?
05:24 PM mrec: the rs232 chip is also dead but that one can be replaced easily
05:24 PM mrec: all other ones should be fine
05:25 PM mrec: the stm32 is read protected, the stm32f103 can be exploited
05:25 PM _unreal_: I would have expected it to be in code protect
05:25 PM mrec: it is
05:25 PM _unreal_: O.o then how did you read it?
05:25 PM _unreal_: teach me
05:25 PM _unreal_: master
05:26 PM mrec: https://github.com/CTXz/stm32f1-picopwner
05:26 PM mrec: those guys are the masters who have too much time to figure out how to exploit those ICs
05:27 PM mrec: the exploit is glitching the stm32f103
05:27 PM _unreal_: hum....
05:27 PM CAKESLOB: _unreal_ no, there was no hitch
05:28 PM CAKESLOB: there was resistence, but it was consistance
05:28 PM _unreal_: CAKESLOB, if the bearing a ball bearing or greased sleeve
05:28 PM _unreal_: if=is
05:28 PM _unreal_: I would asume ball considering its PTO
05:29 PM CAKESLOB: i just turned it on to see how the PTO looks like when it on
05:29 PM _unreal_: >:) nothing worse then a female bearing, when they get dry LL
05:29 PM _unreal_: LOL
05:29 PM CAKESLOB: there was sparks coming out of something i dont think should have sparks shooting out of it
05:29 PM _unreal_: huh?????????
05:30 PM _unreal_: sparks would be power or metal on metal at high rpm VERY high rpm
05:30 PM CAKESLOB: i think the idler/tensioner bearing for my pto/drivetrain is gone
05:30 PM _unreal_: CAKESLOB, likely
05:31 PM _unreal_: is ti a grease pack or does it have oil behind it and seal on the outside?
05:31 PM CAKESLOB: that shouldnt cause my mowerdeck to vibrate though. it would explain the squweekyy noise whern startuing]
05:31 PM _unreal_: anything out of concentric will cause vibs
05:31 PM _unreal_: if you have lost your bearings. you have ;) LOST your way
05:31 PM CAKESLOB: all my mower spindle breaing are grease pack
05:31 PM _unreal_: AND WILL vibrate
05:32 PM CAKESLOB: all the deck spindle bearing are good as far as i can tell. i greased them this spring
05:32 PM _unreal_: way meaning race
05:33 PM CAKESLOB: the drive train idler should effect the pto though, because i dont think theres a bearing in it anynmre
05:33 PM CAKESLOB: shopuldnt effect the mower deck
05:34 PM _unreal_: sad thing is I have not touched my lawn tractor in like 3 years. it does have a PTO output too. has one on the front.
05:35 PM _unreal_: but as I said it likely has radial berings and radial berings do not like axial loads.
05:36 PM _unreal_: axial loads are hard on the races. and if the seal has failed in anyway dirt (sand) will get into the bearing and mess up the race.
05:36 PM _unreal_: no matter how much you grease it
06:43 PM XXCoder: wow advanced new alloy in blondihack
06:51 PM roycroft: i've been working on the election all day
06:52 PM roycroft: i just got caught up with ballot work
06:52 PM roycroft: for today
06:52 PM roycroft: i need to go outside and prepare for the rainy season now
06:52 PM roycroft: maybe i'll get some shop time after
06:52 PM XXCoder: raining here now
06:52 PM roycroft: it's due to start here at 7am tomorrow, and last for about a week
06:52 PM roycroft: i did pick up those router cutters while i was making my first run to the post office today
06:53 PM roycroft: so when the shaper trace ever arrives (still due to be delivered today) i'll have some nice cutters for it
06:53 PM roycroft: well, not for the trace, but for the projects i'll make using the trace
06:54 PM CAKESLOB: had to pre-fill out all those ballots by hand
06:54 PM roycroft: the writers' strike may be over this weekend
06:55 PM roycroft: so maybe snl will have a 49th season after all
06:56 PM roycroft: we mailed most of the ballots early this week
06:56 PM roycroft: most of the work now is resending ballots that bounced because people moved and did not update their address
06:56 PM roycroft: although i've already sent three ballots back to people who did not sign the return envelope
06:57 PM roycroft: you know, like it says to do in big bold letters right above the signature line
06:57 PM roycroft: "IMPORTANT! Failure to sign this envelope will invalidate your ballot and your vote will not be counted."
06:57 PM roycroft: that's in big, bold letters
06:57 PM roycroft: but we still get dozens of unsigned ballots back
06:59 PM roycroft: and of course people complain when we call them out on it
06:59 PM XXCoder: dunno why people do that
07:00 PM Tom_L: like the test that says 'read everything before you do anything' and at the bottom says just sign your name and turn in the test
07:00 PM XXCoder: me, id say "oh oops ill sign it"
07:00 PM roycroft: we do it politely - i use a highlighter on the blurb, and on the signature line, put the return envelope in a new envelope, add a new return envelope, i even put a stamp on it, and send the whole thing back to the member
07:00 PM roycroft: i'm constantly called a "fascist" or a "republican" or both for doing that
07:01 PM * roycroft just received a parcel, and thinks he knows what it is
07:01 PM XXCoder: both of those dont want you to vote so dunno lol
07:02 PM roycroft: well, they don't want *me* to vote, because i'm neither of those things
07:02 PM roycroft: but they want people who are those things to vote, as often as they'd like
07:03 PM roycroft: and i always keep in mind that when someone calls me a fascist or republican, they're really not calling me that - they're calling the secretary that
07:04 PM roycroft: hmm, this thing says
07:04 PM roycroft: "scan the qr code on the underside of the frame to start the app"
07:04 PM roycroft: i wonder how that works
07:05 PM * roycroft has never scanned a qr code before
07:05 PM roycroft: will my ipad just notice it when it's under the camera lens?
07:05 PM XXCoder: usually theres app to take picture of qcode and it loads site or whatever
07:05 PM roycroft: there is no app
07:05 PM roycroft: i looked on the itunes store
07:05 PM XXCoder: but I dont know whats good app for that now, if it was android, I never use ipad stuff so dunno
07:05 PM XXCoder: maybe native camera app can do it>
07:05 PM roycroft: and the shaper web site says i have to run the "web app" using the qr code
07:06 PM XXCoder: maybe load url at ipad browser then click button there to take a qcode pic?
07:07 PM roycroft: yeah, that seems to work
07:07 PM XXCoder: nice
07:07 PM roycroft: i open the photo app, and when it sees the qr code it has a button to take me to the shaper app
07:07 PM roycroft: and now i have to log in
07:08 PM roycroft: this is going to be a pain in the butt on my phone - my password is like all my others - really long (30+ characters) and a random string of characters, numbers, and special characters
07:08 PM XXCoder: fun
07:08 PM roycroft: and my password manager is not auto-filling the web app
07:12 PM roycroft: people are asking on the forum if they can use shaper tape with the app
07:12 PM roycroft: the shaper tape "dominos" are two rows of dots, and all the dots are the same size
07:13 PM roycroft: the shaper trace is a single row of dots in three different sizes
07:13 PM roycroft: anyway, i'll play with it after i get my outdoor stuff done
07:14 PM roycroft: the rain isn't going to wait for me to quit playing
07:14 PM roycroft: so i had best not start
07:36 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
07:59 PM roycroft: the forecast has changed - the rain is supposed to start now in about 4 minutes
07:59 PM * roycroft just finished putting things away from outside
08:00 PM CloudEvil: roycroft: At that point with phones, I pair a bluetooth keyboard, generally
08:00 PM CloudEvil: USB also works
08:00 PM roycroft: very light rain, though
08:00 PM roycroft: i may need to do something like that, although i don't think i have a bluetooth keyboard
08:01 PM roycroft: i really need to see if i can get my password manager to work with their webapp somehow
08:01 PM roycroft: i don't plan on using the shaper trace often, so it may not be that big a deal
08:02 PM roycroft: and since i don't store any files or financial information with shaper, i might set a simpler password for that account if i can't get the password manager to work with the webapp
08:02 PM roycroft: it would still be random, but fewer characters
08:02 PM roycroft: an 18 character random password is still fairly secure
08:27 PM * roycroft thinks he'll try tracing a few chisels before it's time to make dinner
08:45 PM roycroft: so yeah, it does a decent job and it lets me email the svgs to myself
08:45 PM roycroft: i don't have to log into their hub and store the files there
08:48 PM * roycroft needs to be doing a better job of tracing, but that's not the fault of the product
09:16 PM roycroft: https://www.fastcap.com/product/long-nose-marker
09:16 PM roycroft: that is what i need for the shaper trace, and for other things as well
09:50 PM Unterhausen: the local football squad has emerged victorious
09:58 PM roycroft: it has
09:58 PM roycroft: the oregon ducks beat colorady
09:58 PM roycroft: colorado
09:58 PM roycroft: it was such a big deal even i heard about it
10:02 PM Unterhausen: I'm not sure beating either colorady or Iowa is a big deal
10:03 PM Unterhausen: It's better than losing because the students get depressed and my wife's workload goes up
10:06 PM roycroft: i don't understand the importance of this victory for the ducks
10:06 PM roycroft: oregon were heavily favored to win, and they did
10:06 PM roycroft: it seems to have something to do with the colorado coach
10:07 PM roycroft: he is black, and apparently admits to being black, and somehow that makes this game a big deal
10:07 PM roycroft: i'm at a complete loss to comprehend anything about this
10:31 PM roycroft: it is dark, and i can't see what is going on but it smells like rain
10:31 PM * roycroft thinks it is finally here
