04:11 AM Tom_L: morning
04:16 AM Tom_L: 66°F
04:17 AM Tom_L: sunny & 84°F
05:00 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:00 AM JT-Cave: 59°F 40% chance for showers
06:46 AM JT-Cave: rooster just crowed
09:27 AM roycroft: wow - we have rain starting on saturday or sunday and continuing for a week
09:27 AM roycroft: i guess when summer ends, it really ends
10:09 AM travis_farmer: any math wizzes? https://forum.linuxcnc.org/40-subroutines-and-ngcgui/50139-my-calculations-are-off-aparently-need-help-with-spacial-math
10:26 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
10:27 AM JT-Shop: my math teacher was really hot and I didn't learn any math
10:28 AM JT-Shop: nap time
10:37 AM roycroft: i can't help directly with that problem, but if the constant is the distance from the spindle nose to a reference point (the part or the table) and the variable is the tool length, adding the tool length would yield a shorter distance for a long tool than for a short tool
10:37 AM roycroft: i'm not sure that helps at all
10:38 AM travis_farmer: hmmm, so maybe my math is correct then...
10:39 AM roycroft: i worded that awkwardly, i think
10:40 AM roycroft: you subtract the tool length from the distance from the spindle nose to the reference plane
10:40 AM roycroft: to get the distance from the tool tip to the reference plane
10:40 AM roycroft: is that any clearer?
10:41 AM travis_farmer: ok, so get rid of the first SENSOR_SPINDLE subtraction, so there is only one
10:43 AM travis_farmer: and reverse so the probed length is subtracted from the SENSOR_SPINDLE constant
10:45 AM travis_farmer: so rather than "#<probe-val> = [#<_ini[TOOLSENSOR]SENSOR_SPINDLE> - #5063]"...
10:45 AM travis_farmer: i want "#<probe-val> = [#5063 - #<_ini[TOOLSENSOR]SENSOR_SPINDLE>]"
10:48 AM travis_farmer: (#5063 = the result of probe tool length)
10:50 AM travis_farmer: or am i still wrong...
10:53 AM travis_farmer: i could test it and see, i suppose. using JT'smethod of holding a block off the side, so a bad length will just tip the block...
11:05 AM rmu: travis_farmer: i would make a drawing. tool table stores Z-offset, so that Z-coordinate plus tool Z-offset is the tip of the tool. as only subtractions and additions can be involved in this calculation my guess is you flipped a sign somewhere (or more than once).
11:10 AM travis_farmer: ok
12:03 PM pere: I am looking at the doc translation setup in linuxcnc, and propose to change the set of translations built. My proposal is to build for languages with more than 2 percent translated according to Weblate or which have been updated the last 12 months according to the PO-Revision-Date field in docs/po/*.po.
12:28 PM Scopeuk: pere perhaps with a gate that anything over say 80% always gets done even if not updated in a long time
01:30 PM pere: Scopeuk: my proposal is 2% independent of how long ago the work was done. See <URL: https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/pull/2649 > for my proposed patch. I expect and hope to raise the 2% bar in the future, but currently there are so few translations >2% that I do not see the point.
01:58 PM JT-Shop: roycroft, how do I find out who has a domain?
02:21 PM CaptHindsight: open a terminal and type: whois mesaus.com
02:25 PM JT-Shop: thanks
02:26 PM JT-Shop: and of course bash: whois: command not found
02:26 PM JT-Shop: LOL
02:28 PM JT-Shop: No match for domain "COVETTESOFSOUTHEASTMISSOURI.COM"
02:28 PM travis_farmer: forgot your R
02:31 PM JT-Shop: ?
02:32 PM travis_farmer: "COVETTES"?
02:32 PM CaptHindsight: "COVETTES vs core
02:32 PM JT-Shop: lol
02:32 PM JT-Shop: I'm sick and don't feel well or think well atm thanks
02:32 PM CaptHindsight: been there
02:32 PM travis_farmer: been there as well
02:37 PM travis_farmer: yesterday i certainly wasn't thinking well... nearly threw what was left of my 3D probe through a window... glad i didn't, would have made it harder to heat this winter.
02:37 PM roycroft: a basic debian install does not install the whois command any more
02:37 PM roycroft: i think that requires the net-utils package, but i don't recall for sure
02:39 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.icann.org/
02:43 PM CaptHindsight: you can use sites like https://www.whois.com/whois/
02:43 PM JT-Shop: yuck Registrar WHOIS Server: whois.godaddy.com
02:43 PM JT-Shop: last time I dealt with godaddy it was a pia to transfer IIRC
02:44 PM travis_farmer: who's your daddy? ;-)
02:44 PM CaptHindsight: yeah they don't like giving up collecting your money
02:47 PM JT-Shop: Name: CORVETTESOFSOUTHEASTMISSOURI.COM
02:47 PM JT-Shop: Domain Status:
02:47 PM JT-Shop: clientDeleteProhibited
02:47 PM JT-Shop: clientRenewProhibited
02:47 PM JT-Shop: clientTransferProhibited
02:47 PM JT-Shop: clientUpdateProhibited
02:47 PM Tom_L: i also see a gwhois and a whois in package manager
02:47 PM JT-Shop: that don't look good
02:48 PM Tom_L: it's got corvette in the name :)
02:50 PM JT-Shop: got a very short time to figure out how to transfer the domain from godaddy to dreamhost
02:51 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
02:51 PM Tom_dev: https://help.dreamhost.com/hc/en-us/articles/360042035012-Migrating-from-GoDaddy-to-DreamHost-overview
02:52 PM Tom_L: not that that will help alot
02:52 PM JT-Shop: godaddy is only the registar the site is on wix.com
02:53 PM JT-Shop: https://help.dreamhost.com/hc/en-us/articles/215250318-Transfer-a-domain-registration-to-DreamHost
02:53 PM Tom_dev: Can I export my Wix site to DreamHost? No, you cannot. Sites created at Wix can only be accessed within their hosting environment. It's not possible to log in to their servers to see the code as it is with DreamHost.
02:54 PM Tom_dev: but you're not transferring are you?
02:54 PM Tom_dev: making a new one?
02:54 PM JT-Shop: I'm trying to move the web site from wix.com to dreamhost.com
02:54 PM JT-Shop: I've created a sample web site on my site
02:55 PM Tom_dev: sounds like you'd have to recreate it
02:55 PM JT-Shop: https://gnipsel.com/cosem/
02:55 PM Tom_dev: i'm no expert on web hosting though
02:56 PM JT-Shop: I'm not worrying about the actual web site, got that handled sorta
02:56 PM Tom_dev: you're just after the name though aren't you?
02:56 PM JT-Shop: I need to transfer the domain name from godaddy to dreamhost
02:57 PM JT-Shop: Unlock the domain registration for transfer at your registrar.
02:57 PM JT-Shop: Obtain the auth code, also known as the EPP code, from your current registrar. This code is necessary to complete the transfer-in request.
02:57 PM JT-Shop: so to do that I need access to the godaddy account I "think"
02:57 PM Tom_dev: somewhat like transferring a cell from on carrier to another
02:58 PM Tom_dev: one
02:58 PM Tom_dev: you would need godaddy access yes
02:58 PM Tom_dev: who manages it currently?
02:59 PM JT-Shop: no clue about godaddy
02:59 PM JT-Shop: I've taken over the wix.com management
03:00 PM JT-Shop: or I've been handed over the wix.com management
03:01 PM CaptHindsight: yes, you will have to find out who registered the domain at godaddy and then authorize the transfer
03:01 PM Tom_dev: you'll need the keys to the kingdom :)
03:02 PM Tom_dev: Registry Registrant ID: Not Available From Registry
03:02 PM Tom_dev: domains by proxy llc
03:02 PM Tom_dev: tempe Arizona
03:02 PM Tom_dev: Phone: +1.4806242599
03:03 PM CaptHindsight: If you have questions or would like additional information, please e-mail us at corvettesofsoutheastmissouri@outlook.com
03:03 PM CaptHindsight: ask them :)
03:03 PM JT-Shop: it would have to have been someone from the club that registered at godaddy
03:04 PM Tom_dev: hopefully someone in charge is still there :)
03:04 PM JT-Shop: that email goes to a club member
03:04 PM CaptHindsight: and now probably has left the group
03:04 PM JT-Shop: no, he is active
03:04 PM JT-Shop: but I doubt he knows
03:05 PM Tom_dev: he may have to help you walk thru it at least on the godaddy end
03:05 PM CaptHindsight: if you can't find the owner then you might be best off just starting anew website and domain :(
03:05 PM Tom_dev: with registration info passwords etc
03:05 PM Tom_dev: vettesofsoutheastmissouri.com
03:07 PM Tom_dev: or .org etc
03:07 PM Tom_dev: that last one appears to be available
03:07 PM Tom_dev: as does .org
03:09 PM Tom_dev: dunno if you have to meet certain requirements to be a .org or not....
03:10 PM JT-Shop: well I do know who pays for the wix.com site so maybe he also has the magic key to godaddy
03:10 PM Tom_dev: hopefully you can resolve it that way
03:12 PM Tom_dev: Contrary to popular belief, there are no specific requirements for registering a . org domain name. It is open for registration to individuals, organizations, and businesses without any restrictions on non-profit status.
03:12 PM roycroft: the only requirement to register a .org domain is to have a credit card ready
03:12 PM travis_farmer: always fun to have a brain stumper, when your sick, eh JT?
03:12 PM Tom_dev: heh
03:12 PM roycroft: it used to be more restrictive
03:12 PM Tom_dev: i figured as much
03:13 PM JT-Shop: roycroft, what does this mean?
03:13 PM JT-Shop: Domain Status: clientTransferProhibited https://icann.org/epp#clientTransferProhibited
03:13 PM JT-Shop: Domain Status: clientUpdateProhibited https://icann.org/epp#clientUpdateProhibited
03:13 PM JT-Shop: Domain Status: clientRenewProhibited https://icann.org/epp#clientRenewProhibited
03:13 PM JT-Shop: Domain Status: clientDeleteProhibited https://icann.org/epp#clientDeleteProhibited
03:13 PM roycroft: it means the domain is locked
03:14 PM roycroft: in most circumstances the domain holder can unlock the domain and effect those kinds of changes
03:14 PM roycroft: some registrars place further restrictions on them
03:15 PM roycroft: for example, if you change the registrant name or registrant contact info or a domain (but not the admin, tech, or billing contacts), goaddy will prohibit transfer for 60 or 90 days after that change (i forget exactly how long)
03:15 PM roycroft: many registrars prohibit transfers if the domain is due to expire soon
03:16 PM roycroft: there's no technical reason for any of that - it's just that the registrars one to get one more chance to suck you dry before you break up with them
03:16 PM roycroft: want one
03:16 PM roycroft: er, s/one/want/
03:16 PM Tom_L: and godaddy is probably one of the worst?
03:16 PM roycroft: absolutely
03:17 PM roycroft: every time you log into your godaddy account they try to upsell you for a while before they let you do what you logged in to do
03:17 PM JT-Shop: thanks and yes godaddy is a royal PIA
03:17 PM roycroft: and they try to make it as difficult as possible to divorce them
03:17 PM Tom_L: one reason i suggested the .org instead
03:17 PM roycroft: i am a pretty easy-going domain registrar, though :)
03:17 PM JT-Shop: I really don't want to change the URL
03:17 PM Tom_L: i know
03:18 PM Tom_L: but if they're not willing to cooperate...
03:18 PM roycroft: what are you trying to do?
03:18 PM JT-Shop: in any case someone in the club must be paying godaddy for the domain registration
03:18 PM JT-Shop: move the web site from wix.com to dreamhost.com
03:18 PM roycroft: oh
03:18 PM roycroft: that should not be hard
03:19 PM roycroft: unless the domain was registered through wix.com and wix.com list themselves as the registant
03:19 PM JT-Shop: the web site is not an issue I've already created a start on it as it will be new using wordpress and not wix built in stuff
03:19 PM roycroft: which they used to do
03:19 PM roycroft: dreamhost like to be the dns provider for domains that they host
03:20 PM roycroft: so all you have to do is go to the current registrar and change the dns servers when you're ready to move the site
03:20 PM roycroft: after everything is set up at dreamhost, of coures
03:20 PM JT-Shop: wix says domain managed by third party connected by DNS
03:21 PM roycroft: you can ask dreamhost what you need to do and they will give you instructions
03:21 PM roycroft: what is the domain name?
03:21 PM JT-Shop: corvettesofsoutheastmissouri.com
03:21 PM JT-Shop: at least I spelled it right this time lol
03:21 PM Tom_L: :)
03:21 PM roycroft: it uses wixdns.net for dns
03:21 PM roycroft: so wix are wrong
03:22 PM JT-Shop: what does that mean
03:22 PM roycroft: and it's registered through godaddy
03:22 PM roycroft: wix are doing dns for the domain
03:23 PM roycroft: you do not need to transfer it away from godaddy, but i would recommend that for other reasons
03:23 PM roycroft: go to dreamhost, tell them that it's currently hosted by wix.com and uses wixdns.net for dns servers
03:23 PM JT-Shop: yes, I agree
03:23 PM roycroft: and ask them what to do when you are ready to host the site on dreamhost
03:23 PM roycroft: they will almost certainlly give you the dns servers to use for that
03:24 PM JT-Shop: dreamhost is very helpful
03:24 PM roycroft: and when they do, and when you are ready to move the hosting, log into godaddy, unlock the domain, change the dns servers, then lock the domain
03:24 PM roycroft: and bob's your uncle
03:24 PM roycroft: other than the still being with godaddy thing :)
03:25 PM roycroft: the domain has no mx handlers, so it's doing no email at all, which makes the move a lot easier
03:25 PM JT-Shop: thanks
03:25 PM roycroft: it looks like the domain hasn't been updated (domain records, not website) since november of 2017
03:26 PM JT-Shop: Registry Expiration: 2023-11-16 18:22:49 UTC
03:26 PM JT-Shop: Updated: 2022-11-26 17:11:41 UTC
03:26 PM JT-Shop: Created: 2017-11-16 18:22:49 UTC
03:26 PM JT-Shop: from icann.org
03:29 PM JT-Shop: time to spoil the hens
03:34 PM roycroft: you're not going to be able to transfer it for a while
03:34 PM roycroft: but you can change the dns servers any time you want
03:35 PM roycroft: actually, godaddy *may* let you transfer it now
03:35 PM roycroft: it used to be that if it was within 90 days of expiring they would make you pay them for another year before you could transfer it
03:35 PM roycroft: but i think they've shortened taht
03:36 PM roycroft: it might only be 30 days now
03:41 PM JT-Shop: ok
04:02 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:10 PM XXCoder: been raining couple of days here now, roycroft yeah
04:10 PM XXCoder: air feels cool'
04:11 PM XXCoder: sat is start of constant rain possibly lol
04:16 PM roycroft: it will be nice
04:16 PM roycroft: and i'll try not to start complaining about the rain for a while :)
04:17 PM XXCoder: I wonder if I will forget what dry roads color is like this year
04:17 PM XXCoder: last year was really dry
04:18 PM CaptHindsight: so is this the time when SEATAC is just clouds above 50ft with no actual cities to be seen from the air
04:35 PM roycroft: yes, capthindsight
04:35 PM roycroft: this is "normal weather"
04:35 PM roycroft: whatever that means any more
05:35 PM roycroft: woo hoo!
05:35 PM roycroft: my shaper trace has shipped, early!
05:55 PM XXCoder: nice
06:05 PM roycroft: yeah, it will be here saturday
06:05 PM roycroft: and ballots have been mailed, so i don't have a big elections project to work on
06:05 PM roycroft: and it will be raining, so i'll not be able to work outside
06:05 PM roycroft: sounds like a good day to hang out in the shop
06:08 PM XXCoder: yay
06:09 PM roycroft: i wish there were a desktop app for the shaper trace
06:09 PM roycroft: i'd like to use my nikon to take the pictures, but since it's a mobile app i'll have to use my cell phone or ipad
06:10 PM roycroft: i don't plan on using it every day, and it will probably be fine to use the phone or ipad
