12:16 AM t4nk_freenode is now known as t4nk_fn
01:32 AM travis_farmer: Morning :-)
01:51 AM Deejay: moin
04:02 AM rigid: anyone familiar with vismach? I wonder if I have the complete model translate from one joint (without any static elements) could impose problems down the road
04:03 AM rigid: this way, the whole scene would rotate, giving a somewhat correct preview
05:29 AM rigid: does anyone know by heart a vismach example that rotates the workpiece/drawn path like here: https://youtu.be/7LfUjef4d54?t=70 ?
05:33 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:44 AM travis_farmer: 66F/80F had a pretty good thunderstorm last night. many, many strikes triggered my fathers weatherstation lightning sensor.
05:51 AM travis_farmer: looks like the buildbot is having a bad morning...
05:53 AM travis_farmer: ... maybe it drank too much last night ;-)
06:18 AM rigid: yay! now the path rotates with the workpiece in my vismach setup. just don't call HalRotate() twice with the same joint :)
06:37 AM JT-Cave: rooster just crowed
07:00 AM JT-Cave: 3 of my 4 deer showed up for breakfast this morning
07:01 AM travis_farmer: just had one here eating acorns under the oaks
07:20 AM JT-Cave: we have acorns all over our deck so they are dropping now here too
07:20 AM JT-Cave: I guess the deer got over my daughters car being here for a few days and are starting to come back regular
09:15 AM skunkworks: These seem to work really well..
09:15 AM skunkworks: https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/tt-electronics-optek-technology/OPB970N11/498723
09:16 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
09:22 AM travis_farmer: odd, IRC wouldn't let me in for several minutes...
09:28 AM skunkworks: people are geting removed and re-joined.
09:29 AM travis_farmer: well, i made a simple HAL comp file that takes the current tool number, and a list of setp values, and limits the max spindle RPM for slower tools. initial testing shows it works, though i will have to do a real-world test to make sure it works. :-)
09:32 AM travis_farmer: https://github.com/travis-farmer/linuxcnc/blob/master/rpmlimiter.comp
09:35 AM travis_farmer: https://github.com/travis-farmer/linuxcnc/blob/master/configs/my_LinuxCNC_router/my_LinuxCNC_router.hal usage at roughly line 244
10:04 AM JT-Shop: mesact should run under windblows anyone want to test it?
10:19 AM travis_farmer: what do i need to install?
10:19 AM travis_farmer: on Win 10 here
10:23 AM JT-Cave: IDK I've never tried to run python on wondblows
10:23 AM JT-Cave: that's why I'm asking for someone to test :)
10:24 AM travis_farmer: Hmmm... lol, i will download python and go from there :-)
10:24 AM travis_farmer: python 3.11.5 is what is availible for windows
10:25 AM JT-Cave: mesact requires python 3.6 >
10:26 AM travis_farmer: hmmm...
10:27 AM pere: <URL: https://invidious.tiekoetter.com/watch?v=Li40gHcwU-8 > was interesting on linuxcnc limitations.
10:28 AM travis_farmer: i think that is version three point eleven, so it is newer than 3.6, do i need the older version?
10:28 AM JT-Cave: no 3.6 or newer
10:28 AM travis_farmer: ok, installing
10:30 AM travis_farmer: don't i need QT5 as well?
10:30 AM JT-Cave: yes
10:31 AM JT-Cave: PyQt5 5.15 or newer is required
10:40 AM travis_farmer: hmmm, looks like all i can get, from my perspective, is 4.2.0 ...
10:41 AM JT-Cave: you sure that's PyQt5?
10:42 AM travis_farmer: hang on, that's QT designer... my bad
10:45 AM travis_farmer: BRB, getting lunch...
10:46 AM JT-Cave: I'm heading out in a minute or three
11:18 AM travis_farmer: JT, i can't for the life of me get python to run from command line, after installing it. i will try later when i can reboot (to try and refresh the PATH), as i have several windows open i am not ready to close just yet.
11:32 AM Scopeuk: I don't think python on windows adds it's self to path by default
11:33 AM Scopeuk: so its either fully qualified path or add the python bin directory (and library search path) to your user or system path
11:33 AM travis_farmer: yeah, just did that
11:34 AM travis_farmer: ok, i have PIP now :-)
11:35 AM travis_farmer: ok, PyQt5.15 installed :-)
12:00 PM * travis_farmer is now running MesaCT 2.0.1 on windows 10 :-)
12:16 PM travis_farmer: getting quite a few errors it seems...
12:23 PM travis_farmer: most of the errors seem related to missing files not provided by the windows python, when doing hardware tasks. and all i have for a board to test with is my older 7i80HD-16 spare
12:35 PM travis_farmer: i think i need a newer mesaflash...
12:39 PM travis_farmer: same result... says wrong device name "7i80DB-16"
12:44 PM travis_farmer: can't seem to find newer mesaflash for windows...
12:51 PM travis_farmer: yeah, i keep hittng the same wall, i change mesact a bit to work with my available mesaflash, but it always halts at wrong board name
01:46 PM Tom_L: you need to compile mesaflash for the latest
01:48 PM travis_farmer: Hmm...
01:48 PM travis_farmer: ihave no compile tools on windows...
01:50 PM Tom_L: that's a problem
01:50 PM travis_farmer: yup, but MesaCT sorta works on Windows 10 :-)
02:15 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
02:15 PM Unterhausen: it's easy to get free build tools on winders. I use the community version of visual studio because that's what I'm used to
02:16 PM Unterhausen: VS Code seems to be the most popular with foss developers
02:28 PM Unterhausen: the internet told me to take the cover off of my Tecumseh engine and I would find the model number
02:28 PM Unterhausen: the internet was a mistake
02:28 PM CaptHindsight: lotsa lies on the intertubes
02:33 PM Unterhausen: it's all misdirection
02:37 PM roycroft: the internet is full of eels
02:41 PM CaptHindsight: internet forums have taught me that many people have issues with dyslexia
02:44 PM CaptHindsight: but missing model numbers don't apply to this unless they are on the flip side of the engine
03:03 PM Unterhausen: hopefully the parts list for the model of chipper it's on tells the engine model
03:07 PM Unterhausen: model number not in their system, thanks troy bilt
04:33 PM travis_farmer: just watched Terminator: Genesis. good movie :-)
05:21 PM JT-Shop: tra
05:36 PM JT-Shop: travis_farmer thanks for checking that
06:07 PM Tom_L: does this affect the linux version any?
06:07 PM JT-Shop: no
06:08 PM JT-Shop: actually it just fixes a bug that if emc was not installed
06:08 PM Tom_L: how's that?
06:10 PM Tom_L: i found a gcode backplotter i liked then found out it was only in metric
06:10 PM JT-Shop: well that sucks
06:10 PM JT-Shop: is it in python?
06:11 PM Tom_L: still shows the path but if i try to put tools on it they're way out of proportion
06:11 PM Tom_L: it's a windows program
06:11 PM Tom_L: so probably not
06:12 PM Tom_L: NCnetic
06:13 PM Tom_L: my cad does a decent job but once in a while i'll get a gcode file and it's nice to preview
08:40 PM acer is now known as _unreal_
09:12 PM roycroft: i finally got to do a little welding with my new gmaw machine that i bought over a month ago
09:12 PM roycroft: it's really a big improvement over the old one
09:22 PM Tom_L: haven't had mine out in ages
09:24 PM roycroft: i have a couple welding projects coming up
09:25 PM roycroft: and i bought some squares from weldtables.com recently
09:25 PM roycroft: they are kits that need to be welded together, so that's what i started working on today
09:25 PM roycroft: the old machine was 120vac@15a
09:26 PM roycroft: the new one is 240vac@50a
09:26 PM Tom_L: yeah i didn't wanna settle with 120v either
09:29 PM roycroft: but i think the biggest improvements are the adjustable gas flow (it always felt starved for gas with the old one, and i could not fix that) and the inductance feature
09:30 PM roycroft: the gas pre- and post-flow is a nice feature too, and is not available on even some of the high end big name brand gmaw welders
09:30 PM Tom_L: with no training, i kinda guess on gas flow
09:30 PM roycroft: folks complain about it, but i'm used to it with gtaw, and it's a really nice feature
09:30 PM roycroft: it keeps the beginning and end of the weld bead from getting spongy
09:31 PM roycroft: i'm going by recommendations, and it's working pretty well so far
09:31 PM roycroft: but i have like 10 minutes total welding time on this machine so far
09:32 PM roycroft: i'm going to make the headache rack for my pickup soon, and after that the new front bumper with the winch mount
09:32 PM roycroft: both of those projects will require a fair amount of welding
09:32 PM Tom_L: i fixed up a trailer for a friend in the lawn business with a sprayer tank
09:32 PM roycroft: nice
09:33 PM roycroft: i'll be working on my trailer eventually, but i want to get those two pickup projects done first
09:33 PM roycroft: my plan is to have the trailer rebuilt by next spring
09:33 PM Tom_L: not all welding but some
09:34 PM Tom_L: welded some of that grate stuff on his loading ramp too
09:34 PM Tom_L: kinda tough to figure heat on those
09:35 PM roycroft: i'm not sure why, but i really enjoy welding
09:35 PM roycroft: i'm not very good at it, and it's hot and messy, but still i enjoy it
09:35 PM roycroft: it's really satisfying to weld something together and have it look decent and be strong
09:35 PM roycroft: i guess that's why i like it
09:35 PM Tom_L: i fixed the cab mounts on my old S10 back when i had it
09:36 PM Tom_L: welded in som new plates for it to sit
09:36 PM Tom_L: some
09:38 PM mrec: pcw--home: I kept testing the regular mesa implementation with the 2022 efinix software, the slack was better but still negative; however I'm testing the new on enow
09:38 PM mrec: new one now*
09:38 PM roycroft: it's about time to make dinner
09:38 PM * roycroft is eating late tonight :(
10:16 PM Unterhausen: supposed to have heavy rain all day tomorrow, but there is nothing on the radar map that looks like it would result in rain all day
10:18 PM Tom_L: last week in the early morning hours we had lightening and hard rain for about 10 min then it quit for the rest of the day. the radar looked clear
10:18 PM Tom_L: was kindof an odd one
10:31 PM roycroft: we have no rain in the forecast for the next 10 days, at least
10:31 PM roycroft: we got that wee bit a week and a half or so ago, but now it's back to warm and sunny every day
10:32 PM * roycroft is resigned to going back to irrigating
10:53 PM mrec: pcw--home: the new one is okay from slack point of view, looks pretty good now (however functionality not tested yet of course)
