12:51 AM Deejay: moin
03:16 AM travis_farmer: Morning :-)
03:41 AM jpa-: rmu: i'm not aware of such, but if you have the diameter you could have some custom HAL logic to limit based on that
04:32 AM Tom_L: morning
05:44 AM travis_farmer: Mmmm JD Breakfast Bowl :-)
05:47 AM travis_farmer: 61F/76F 91%rh
06:06 AM Loetmichel: *GAH* just delivered the first ATX shield to the sister company. Milled the other 9 (of 10)... just got a mail: "Nice, but could you move the audio jack holes a bit down?"... *GRMBL* WHY DO YOU MAKE A 3D MODEL THAT IS NOT CORRECT AND TELL ME WHEN I AM DONE MILLING?!? /rant
06:08 AM jpa-: because people make mistakes :)
06:09 AM Scopeuk: Loetmichel: "you move your audio jacks, now that we are both done being unreasonable..."
06:10 AM Scopeuk: I guess remanufacture or someone uses a rotary tool
06:11 AM Loetmichel: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=18140
06:12 AM JT-Cave: rooster just crowed
06:14 AM Scopeuk: that's rather in the "good enough" bucket. I've seen plates come with motherboards that were at that standard
06:15 AM Loetmichel: wouldnt have happened though if the 3d model of the shield i got from the sister company would have been correct.
06:16 AM Scopeuk: that's fair
06:16 AM Loetmichel: easiest the most expensive atx shields ever. Even had to make a press die for the "Z"
06:17 AM Loetmichel: on both ends.
06:17 AM Scopeuk: I guess it beats milling the step
06:17 AM Scopeuk: and at least that die is still valid for shuffling the audio holes
06:18 AM Loetmichel: it would be. If i hadnt used the audio holes as a "location pin" for the two halves of the die and the sheet metal
06:19 AM CloudEvil: oopsie
06:22 AM Loetmichel: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=18143&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
06:22 AM Loetmichel: dies
06:23 AM Loetmichel: and yes, they are printed. 60% infill, carbon PLA filament. Works fine :)
06:40 AM rmu: lol so that's your Z. in my book, that is an angle of 135°, i interpreted the 45° as very sharp angle, and that is probably impossible to manufacture with legs ~1mm long and 1mm material thickness...
08:31 AM JT-Cave: wtf I just got a text message from a candidate for the local electric coop wanting me to vote for him, for sure I'll not vote for him now and block his number
08:46 AM skunkworks: Friday!
09:10 AM rmu: don't call us, we call you
09:10 AM roycroft: i would do the same, jt-cave
10:00 AM roycroft: yikes
10:00 AM roycroft: 42 on monday here in the valley
10:01 AM roycroft: i had been pondering cancelling my camping trip because of some elections issues i have to deal with, but with that kind of forecast i'm going anyway, and i'll figure out the elections stuff when i get back
10:26 AM JT-Shop: never let volunteering to get in the way camping
10:27 AM roycroft: it's not a decision i would make lightly
10:28 AM roycroft: that i even had to consider doing it is a big reason i've been thinking about quitting
10:38 AM Tom_L: weekend is here.. yay
10:39 AM roycroft: not yet for me, but soon
10:42 AM JT-Shop: my weekend started 2 weeks ago IIRC
10:43 AM travis_farmer: my weekend started months ago...
10:43 AM roycroft: 28 on the coast on monday
10:43 AM roycroft: that will be a record high
10:43 AM roycroft: but i'll take 28 over 42 any day
10:43 AM Tom_L: wonder how high gas will go this round
10:44 AM roycroft: it's almost $5 right now here
10:44 AM roycroft: diesel went from $3.59 to $4.89 over the course of a week
10:45 AM * roycroft hopes the opec oil magnate's new yacht is paid off soon
10:54 AM Deejay: roycroft, $4.89 for whit amount? gallon?
10:54 AM roycroft: yes
10:54 AM Deejay: i c
10:54 AM roycroft: and unfortunately i lost
10:55 AM roycroft: i needed fuel when it was $3.59, and that price had held for at least a couple weeks
10:55 AM Deejay: here in germany diesel is more expensive
10:55 AM roycroft: but the day i went to fuel up it had gone up to $3.79
10:55 AM Deejay: hehe
10:55 AM Deejay: murphys law
10:55 AM roycroft: yeah, i was bummed
10:55 AM roycroft: but then it went up to $4.89
10:55 AM roycroft: so maybe not so bad
10:55 AM Deejay: yeah :)
10:56 AM Deejay: have a positive view :)
10:56 AM roycroft: and a tank of diesel lasts me about 4 months, so it should be down in price again by the time i have to refuel next
10:56 AM roycroft: after labor day (first monday in september) the price of fuel goes down, as tourist season is over
10:56 AM Deejay: hehe
10:59 AM roycroft: i really haven't paid attention to the current excuse for the fuel price spike
11:00 AM roycroft: i don't think there's ever a legitimate reason - oil is the most highly-manipulated market in the world
11:00 AM roycroft: it is supply and demand based, but the supply is what is manipulated, and has nothing to do with the actual demand
12:21 PM Deejay: seems to be the same in different countries :/
12:21 PM Deejay: bye
01:07 PM travis_farmer: well, my addiction to impulse buying has struck again... i now have on order a 15-drive disk array for my backup server... now i really gotta sell the stuff i have listed on FB Marketplace...
01:12 PM roycroft: that reminds me, i need to renew the listing for my welder on cl
01:12 PM roycroft: it's not selling as quickly as i thought, and it's been time since yesterday to renew and bump it to the top, but i wanted to wait until mid-day today to do so, as a mid-day friday listing has the best impact
01:13 PM * roycroft is going to drop the asking price by $25, as he'd like to get rid of it soon
01:13 PM roycroft: as is usually the case, it's not that i need the money, it's that i need the real estate
01:20 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
02:20 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
02:45 PM * travis_farmer feels like utter crap...
02:53 PM * JT-Cave cleans and organizes this part of the table with the new shelves I have lots of room now
03:04 PM roycroft: sweet
03:04 PM * JT-Cave had a job once washing crap off of udders
03:04 PM roycroft: i've just been informed that an f650 lower dash panel will bolt into my f350 seamlessly
03:05 PM roycroft: and it has room for installing some upfitter switches
03:05 PM roycroft: an elegant solution that will look factory
03:05 PM JT-Cave: nice
03:05 PM XXCoder: nice
03:06 PM JT-Cave: I like the shelves I put up so much I'm putting up more... I think I have like 3 more sets
03:07 PM roycroft: shelves are good
03:07 PM XXCoder: reward of good job is more job
03:08 PM roycroft: i was trying to come up with a way to install an overhead console for the switches, or get a custom door pillar to install them
03:08 PM roycroft: but the lower dash panel is a lot cleaner and easier
03:08 PM roycroft: and puts the switches in a better place
03:08 PM roycroft: i can also buy a brand new oem panel for $150, so not too bad on price
03:08 PM Tom_L: those shelves are rather handy
03:09 PM Tom_L: i don't have quite as many hanging as i did
03:19 PM * JT-Woodshop waits for the unicorn to leave the water bowl and mineral lick
03:19 PM JT-Woodshop: I wonder if my digital volt meter will work with small voltages or not...
03:20 PM Tom_L: why not?
03:20 PM JT-Woodshop: it's just a volt display like for a car
03:21 PM JT-Woodshop: no power to it
03:21 PM * JT-Woodshop goes to see if the unicorn has left or not
03:24 PM JT-Cave: nope, bad idea 1.5v will not turn it on
03:25 PM Tom_L: mmm. put a 1.5v in series and read the difference
03:26 PM Tom_L: may not be a great idea...
03:26 PM JT-Cave: takes at least 3v to power the thing up
03:26 PM Tom_L: could affect the circuit
03:27 PM JT-Cave: trying to hook up a volt meter to the 7i96s analog out to test my code
03:27 PM JT-Cave: and btw did you see I bumped the version of mesact?
03:27 PM Tom_L: no
03:27 PM Tom_L: haven't looked yet today
03:27 PM Tom_L: i'm about to hook up my 7i96s and test as well unless i get interrupted
03:27 PM skunkworks: JT-Cave: uh.. are there analog inputs you could use on the car?
03:28 PM JT-Cave: hmm I think I can use that vold meter to dial in my power supply voltage
03:28 PM Tom_L: partner just dropped of a printer for me to fix
03:28 PM skunkworks: card
03:28 PM JT-Cave: skunkworks, I don't understand your question
03:28 PM Tom_L: he wonders if any of the IO are analog instead of digital
03:28 PM Tom_L: inputs
03:29 PM JT-Cave: oh the 7i96s
03:29 PM skunkworks: you could feed the analog out back into the 7i96s if there are i/o that allows for analog input.
03:29 PM skunkworks: right
03:30 PM Tom_L: i haven't looked that card over that close yet
03:30 PM JT-Cave: I don't think the 7i96s has any analog inputs, I can just use my fluke meter to read the output from the 7i96s
03:30 PM Tom_L: that's what i was going to do
03:31 PM Tom_L: i did run a field voltage out of the PC 12v as well
03:31 PM skunkworks: LOL - I thought you didn't have a volt meter handy
03:32 PM JT-Cave: no, I was just trying to use this nifty little volt meter that fits in a round hole
03:32 PM Tom_L: i got a 'power' meter for the spindle and haven't used it either
03:33 PM JT-Cave: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JY0V3TY
03:33 PM Tom_L: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805675346181.html
03:33 PM Tom_L: similar
03:34 PM Tom_L: this one has a shunt though
03:37 PM Tom_L: https://www.ebay.com/itm/234830417559
03:37 PM Tom_L: closer to that
03:38 PM Tom_L: i was gonna use that when i still had the old sherline motor on the spindle but don't really need it now
03:39 PM Tom_L: JT-Cave, ready for me to build debs?
03:41 PM JT-Cave: yup
03:41 PM Tom_L: ok
04:00 PM Tom_L: JT-Cave, PR #11
04:08 PM Tom_L: JT-Cave, when i open an exhisting config why does it delete all the files in that directory first?
04:08 PM Tom_L: i see the backups but...
04:09 PM JT-Shop: incompatibility issues with the ini files from older versions
04:09 PM Tom_L: maybe keep parameter.var tool.tbl etc
04:10 PM JT-Shop: ok, didn't think about that
04:10 PM Tom_L: or any others like that
04:10 PM JT-Shop: I should only delete the .hal and .ini files
04:10 PM Tom_L: they could have some special .hal files
04:11 PM JT-Shop: hmm good point
04:11 PM Tom_L: maybe the named .ini and main.hal
04:11 PM Tom_L: you can pull the named one from when it gets loaded
04:12 PM Tom_L: those are the only 2 besides maybe io.hal that affect you aren't they?
04:12 PM JT-Shop: mainly it was a quick fix for the ini file but I see I need to refine it
04:13 PM Tom_L: all your options are kept in the main .ini aren't they?
04:14 PM Tom_L: maybe just look for a main.hal when loading or read it from the ini
04:14 PM Tom_L: in the [hal] section
04:14 PM Tom_L: wait...
04:15 PM Tom_L: you have a named HALFILE in [hal] but when you write it out to file it is called 'main.hal'
04:15 PM Tom_L: that section doesn't appear to be read
04:18 PM Tom_L: main.hal should be called whatever is defined in [hal] and if none is there maybe use main.hal
04:19 PM Tom_L: looks like you default the first [hal] entry to the same name as the ini
04:19 PM Tom_L: but it doesn't get used
04:22 PM JT-Cave: what are you talking about?]
04:22 PM Tom_L: heh
04:23 PM Tom_L: looking at the ini file in the [hal] section you define a 7i96sxxxx.hal
04:23 PM Tom_L: but it never gets saved
04:23 PM Tom_L: rather you save the main halfile to 'main.hal
04:23 PM JT-Cave: I've not done that in a long time
04:24 PM Tom_L: that being what?
04:24 PM JT-Cave: have a hal file named after the configuration name
04:24 PM Tom_L: ok, maybe not write it in the [hal] section then
04:25 PM Tom_L: just use main.hal
04:25 PM JT-Cave: [HAL]
04:25 PM JT-Cave: HALFILE = main.hal
04:25 PM JT-Cave: HALFILE = io.hal
04:25 PM JT-Cave: that's all that's in the hal section
04:25 PM Tom_L: i read in a 2.0 config
04:25 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:25 PM Tom_L: hang on a sec..
04:26 PM Tom_L: my bad.. i was looking at an old file
04:26 PM Tom_L: sry
04:27 PM JT-Cave: anyway the 7i96s spindle is working now
04:27 PM Tom_L: lemme try something here..
04:27 PM JT-Cave: k
04:27 PM * JT-Cave makes some chicken crack
04:28 PM Tom_L: ok
04:29 PM JT-Cave: next thing I'll fix is the directory clean function
04:29 PM Tom_L: something is fishy.. just a sec
04:30 PM JT-Cave: hmm it needs to have a bit of smarts because the ini from 2.0.1 on may be ok to just update
04:31 PM Tom_L: ok i think it was because it had read in a 2.0.0 config
04:32 PM Tom_dev: the backup kept writing this out:
04:32 PM Tom_dev: [HAL]
04:32 PM Tom_dev: HALFILE = 7i96_test_2.0.hal
04:32 PM Tom_dev: instead of main.hal etc
04:33 PM Tom_L: that's what was confusing me
04:36 PM JT-Cave: before if a key/value was in the ini it stayed and that messed up some stuff when I did all the changes
04:36 PM Tom_L: i figured tha
04:36 PM Tom_L: t
04:38 PM JT-Cave: time for my beer I think
04:38 PM Tom_L: t-storm moving in
04:43 PM roycroft: we just have a heat wave moving in
04:43 PM roycroft: on the day i head for the coast - i'll almost miss it
04:43 PM XXCoder: bah lol
04:44 PM XXCoder: trapped here
04:44 PM XXCoder: take me with you please lol
04:44 PM XXCoder: joking aside, hope you enjoy the trip
04:52 PM JT-Shop: I'm just happy the 7i96s spindle works now so next is to finger out the min limit
04:53 PM roycroft: i'm almost on vacation
04:53 PM roycroft: and the first thing i need to do is go get my driver's license renewed
04:53 PM roycroft: and see if they'll give me a "real id" this time
04:53 PM roycroft: i brought all the requested paperwork last time and they rejected me
04:54 PM JT-Shop: I have to renew mine before October
04:54 PM roycroft: but that was eight years ago, and they were just starting to figure out how to do it
04:54 PM roycroft: this time i called the dmv in salem first, and they confirmed that my paperwork should be sufficient
04:54 PM roycroft: if not, i guess i won't be using public transportation
04:54 PM JT-Shop: what do you have to have?
04:55 PM Tom_L: wouldn't the min limit be 0?
04:55 PM JT-Shop: not if your spindle min speed is 500
04:55 PM roycroft: in oregon they need a copy of my birth certificate, my old driver's license, and two acceptable documents with my residential address
04:55 PM roycroft: my old driver's license counts ad one
04:55 PM roycroft: as one
04:55 PM roycroft: and for the other they require a piece of mail sent by a financial institution or utility addressed to my residence
04:56 PM JT-Shop: same here I think
04:56 PM roycroft: that's the hard part, because i get very little postal mail, and none of my financial stuff comes via postal mail normally
04:56 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, is that to keep the spindle from just sitting there and buzzing? instead of turning
04:56 PM roycroft: i do all that stuff online
04:56 PM JT-Shop: yes
04:56 PM Tom_L: gotcha
04:56 PM roycroft: but i am fortunate in that harbor freight's cc company are flaky and can't seem to get my address updated to my po box
04:56 PM Tom_L: i never set mine but know not to go below a certain speed
04:57 PM roycroft: nor do they seem to be able to set my account for online statments, so i do get hf cc statements in the mail at my residence
04:57 PM Tom_L: not exactly sure how low it would go
04:57 PM roycroft: but no bank statements or anything like that
04:58 PM roycroft: the state dmv say that the cc statement is ok, but i'll find out what the local dmv office have to say
04:58 PM roycroft: i also get to pay $70 for a license with a real id, vs $30 for a not real id license
04:58 PM roycroft: it's good for eight years, though, so not that big a deal
04:59 PM XXCoder: more in danger of forgeting to update but yeah
05:00 PM roycroft: believe me, i get enough nag messages to renew that i won't forget
05:00 PM roycroft: although i'll be eight years older next time
05:00 PM roycroft: i might not remember my name by then
05:01 PM * roycroft is officially on vacation, and celebrates by making a road trip to the dmv
05:03 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, on the spindle you may want x.xx on the PID settings instead of just x.x
05:04 PM XXCoder: checked my id. expires in 2032
05:04 PM JT-Shop: I wonder if the spindle pid needs that? did you use anything other than the two defaults?
05:04 PM Tom_L: those are floats
05:05 PM JT-Shop: yup so I could have as many decimals as I want
05:05 PM Tom_L: no i didn't but generally enter a number like that as 2.20 etc
05:05 PM JT-Shop: ok
05:05 PM Tom_L: 2 should be plenty
05:06 PM Tom_L: and i dunno why but my max error is 200 and your limit is 100
05:06 PM Tom_L: no idea why it's set to that
05:07 PM Tom_L: i may have set it high when i was testing my spindle code and forgot to change it
05:07 PM Tom_L: but it works and i'm leaving it for now
05:08 PM JT-Shop: so it looks like I didn't set any max values for the double spin boxes as 100.0 is default
05:09 PM Tom_L: are you saving spindle values now?
05:09 PM JT-Shop: yes
05:10 PM Tom_dev: setp hm2_[MESA](BOARD).0.pwmgen.pwm_frequency 20000
05:10 PM Tom_dev: didn't update
05:10 PM JT-Shop: I prob need to review updateini.py
05:12 PM Tom_L: looks ok in the ini but not the main.hal
05:12 PM JT-Shop: what looks ok?
05:12 PM Tom_L: pwm frequency
05:13 PM Tom_L: line ~14-15 in the hal
05:15 PM JT-Shop: hmm that should not be there any more
05:16 PM JT-Shop: look at line 88 in main.hal
05:18 PM Tom_L: mine is different.. what am i looking for?
05:19 PM JT-Shop: setp hm2_[MESA](BOARD).0.pwmgen.00.output-type [SPINDLE_0](PWM_TYPE)
05:19 PM JT-Shop: setp hm2_[MESA](BOARD).0.pwmgen.pwm_frequency [SPINDLE_0](PWM_FREQUENCY)
05:19 PM JT-Shop: setp hm2_[MESA](BOARD).0.pwmgen.00.scale [SPINDLE_0]SCALE
05:19 PM Tom_L: yeah i found it
05:33 PM Tom_L: MDI_COMMAND works but could use space for a few more
05:34 PM Tom_L: (i have one more than you allow) :)
05:35 PM Tom_L: might make a note somewhere that 'Halui User Interface needs to be checked for those MDI_COMMAND to save
05:38 PM Tom_L: haven't added PROGRAM_EXTENSION to the ini yet
05:38 PM Tom_L: i think that's the [DISPLAY] section
05:38 PM JT-Shop: that check needs to be in check.py
05:39 PM Tom_L: the halui check?
05:39 PM JT-Shop: yup
05:41 PM JT-Shop: I might not have much time in the morning got an early departure to meet up with the club
05:50 PM Tom_L: ok
05:53 PM * JT-Shop sends himself a note down in the beer cave
06:09 PM JT-Shop: looks like the carbon flash black rocker covers will be here monday
06:09 PM JT-Shop: still undecided on the splitter
06:09 PM * JT-Shop calls it a night
07:17 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
07:47 PM roycroft: so has anyone here used any of the harbor freight off-road vehicle lights?
07:47 PM roycroft: either the light bars or the square lights?
07:48 PM roycroft: they are a fraction of the price of other brands, and i know their led work lights are decent
07:48 PM roycroft: but the vehicle lights will be subject to the elements and vibrations
07:49 PM roycroft: a much harsher environment than a typical shop
08:30 PM snakedwork is now known as snaked
08:30 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
