08:28 AM Tom_L: .
08:39 AM travis_farmer: works now :-)
08:39 AM Tom_L: it's building indexes
08:39 AM travis_farmer: oh, ok
08:39 AM Tom_L: or the server's gettin ready to crap out
08:39 AM travis_farmer: hope not
08:39 AM Tom_L: i pulled it out of a junk pile several years back and it's been running 24/7
08:39 AM travis_farmer: my servers are bassicly ewaste, and they are still kicking ;-)
08:47 AM JT-Cave: pcw--home, what does hm2_7i96s.0.pwmgen.pdm_frequency do?
08:48 AM Tom_L: XXCoder, not machining but thought you might like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwRuEHtA9NE
09:16 AM travis_farmer: cool, just fired up my own IRC server, just for something to do ;-)
09:18 AM travis_farmer: i forgot how easy it was to setup a IRC server...
09:27 AM travis_farmer: ...so far, just as many people on my IRC server as my Discord server, ;-) lol
09:27 AM pcw--home: JT-Cave: its sets the PDM frequency (if PDM mode is selected)
09:28 AM JT-Cave: how do you select PDM mode?
09:31 AM pcw--home: its one of the 4 PWGgen "output types"
09:33 AM JT-Cave: hm2_7i96s.0.pwmgen.00.output-type
09:33 AM JT-Cave: hmm I seem to recall that somewhat now
09:34 AM pcw--home: PDM is easier to filter than PWM so better for high speed analog outputs
09:36 AM travis_farmer: https://www.realdigital.org/doc/333049590c67cb553fc7f9880b2f79c3#pulse-density-modulation
09:41 AM JT-Cave: thanks
09:42 AM JT-Cave: (s32 rw) output-type
09:42 AM JT-Cave: This emulates the output_type load-time argument to the software pwmgen component. This parameter may be changed at runtime, but most of the time you probably want to set it at startup and then leave it alone. Accepted values are 1 (PWM on Out0 and Direction on Out1), 2 (Up on Out0 and Down on Out1), 3 (PDM mode, PDM on Out0 and Dir on Out1), and 4 (Direction on Out0 and PWM on Out1, "for locked antiphase").
09:43 AM JT-Cave: from man hostmot2 page, what is out0 and out1?
09:43 AM JT-Cave: for a 7i96s
09:44 AM pcw--home: on a 7I96S's local analog out, only out0 is connected
09:48 AM pcw--home: I have not tried PDM on the 7I96S analog out, it should work but since its not a high speed output (~300 Hz bandwidth) its not needed
09:59 AM JT-Cave: thanks
10:03 AM JT-Cave: so all the boards that have an isolated potentiometer replacement type device only out0 is connected?
10:03 AM JT-Cave: for the spindle
10:05 AM pcw--home: well 7I76/7I76E is different since the analog is done with sserial
10:07 AM JT-Cave: 7I76/7I76E support all 4 functions of pwmgen output-type?
10:07 AM pcw--home: no
10:08 AM pcw--home: no options since its basically fixed purpose (the FPGA outputs need to be more flexible)
10:09 AM JT-Cave: ah ok
10:18 AM JT-Cave: should the pwm_frequency just be set at The default pwm_frequency is 20,000 Hz (20 kHz). or is there a reason to set it to some other value?
10:28 AM pcw--home: For analog servo daughter cards (and the 7I97) there are different recommendations
10:29 AM JT-Shop: ok
10:30 AM pcw--home: 7I33 = 6 MHz PDM, 7I48 48 KHz up/down mode,7I36 and 7I97 48 MHz PWM/DIR mode with offset mode selected
10:31 AM JT-Shop: thanks
11:15 AM Deejay: re
02:17 PM travis_farmer: i think i have decided on a task for the coming days... i am thinking of pulling the hard-drive from my CNC computer (the drive i was trying to recover), and install a 1TB drive i have on hand, and install Debian 12 onto it, followed by LinuxCNC... i was running Deb 11, but i think i will try Deb 12 as i don't have to compile LCNC. i can just pull it from the repo.
02:17 PM travis_farmer: at least that way i can fall-back on the old drive if the install fails...
02:20 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, been workin on spindle config i see
03:02 PM JT-Shop: yup
03:02 PM XXCoder: Tom_L: pretty cookl'
03:04 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, building
03:10 PM XXCoder: lol thought guy was making a table
03:11 PM XXCoder: then he turns it back over and its some pot plant
03:11 PM XXCoder: planter holder
03:12 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, PR #10
04:13 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:51 PM JT-Shop: ok, getting closer on the 7i96s spindle code
04:51 PM JT-Shop: looks like I need to do it by the board to get it right
06:46 PM acer is now known as _unreal_
06:47 PM _unreal_: just purchased my loosing mega millions ticket :)
06:48 PM _unreal_: when you dont hear a florida winner you know I didnt lie
07:26 PM roycroft: i should buy a lottery ticket some day
07:26 PM roycroft: i'd have a better chance of winning if i did so
07:27 PM XXCoder: 99.99% chance of losing vs 100%
07:27 PM XXCoder: if I dont buy a lottery, I won the lottery price amount
07:27 PM XXCoder: ill go with that
08:30 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
08:39 PM roycroft: if you don't buy a ticket you don't lose - you just don't participate
09:03 PM robotustra: looks like I have to go with epoxy granite option instead of beton option
09:04 PM robotustra: if to put all addmixture, reinforcement into the beton the price will be compatible to epoxy granite
09:05 PM robotustra: for my volume
09:06 PM robotustra: about 40 liters. Betone machine could be cheap option only if the volume of pouring more than 100 liters
09:18 PM roycroft: if you move your machine to jupiter it will weigh more without having to do anything fancy
09:52 PM robotustra: very practical advice
09:52 PM XXCoder: well I have much cheaper idea
09:53 PM XXCoder: build a spinning shop
10:00 PM javabean_ is now known as javabean
10:10 PM roycroft: i'm sure there's someone with a penis rocket who would help you get there
10:21 PM roycroft: and for tonight's entertainment, adam savage is attempting to machining operations again
10:21 PM roycroft: he's attempting to make a brass bottle cap
10:23 PM CaptHindsight: bot test
10:23 PM roycroft: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VdWkAc7GOQ
10:23 PM roycroft: people who are not machinists should not make machining videos, for the most part
10:24 PM roycroft: except, perhaps, when they're so horrible they're entertaining, as this one is
10:24 PM CaptHindsight: that's entertainment
10:25 PM roycroft: it's a good thing he's only making a bottle cap
10:25 PM Tom_L: you see the nut or bolt he made? i forget which now
10:26 PM roycroft: it's also very annoying, because he's one of those people who says "thou" instead of "thousandths"
10:26 PM roycroft: i don't think so
10:26 PM roycroft: i'd probably have remembered it
10:26 PM roycroft: or else i would have actively blocked it from my memory
10:26 PM roycroft: i do not watch his videos regularly
10:27 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98MCz9gQaiE&pp=ygUbYWRhbSBzYXZhZ2UgbWFjaGluZXMgYSBib2x0
10:27 PM Tom_L: enjoy
10:27 PM Tom_L: :)
10:27 PM roycroft: well now we know
10:27 PM roycroft: he bored the brass rod for the internal thread
10:27 PM roycroft: now he's going to cut the thread
10:28 PM roycroft: but he did not chamfer the end of the bore
10:28 PM roycroft: and chamfering is what separates us from the animals
10:28 PM XXCoder: aw didnt know he was an animal
10:28 PM XXCoder: sad
10:29 PM CaptHindsight: I thought it was fillets that separated us?
10:29 PM roycroft: no, it's chamfers
10:30 PM roycroft: i guess capthindsight disagrees
10:30 PM XXCoder: think was checking bridge status
10:30 PM XXCoder: yeah irc is still disconnected from other 2 sadly
10:30 PM roycroft: adam did a scratch pass but did not check it with his thread gage
10:30 PM Tom_L: poor at best?
10:31 PM roycroft: this, after taking about 20 minutes to figure out how to set the lathe for the correct pitch
10:31 PM XXCoder: rusty?
10:36 PM roycroft: i got bored with the video, except i can't turn it off yet
10:36 PM roycroft: i'm waiting for the spurts of blood
10:42 PM roycroft: darn
10:42 PM roycroft: nothing more than a band-aid on his finger
10:42 PM roycroft: no blood at all
10:42 PM roycroft: what a waste of time
10:43 PM roycroft: i guess if i want a reliable source of blood, the woodwright's shop is the only place to go
10:45 PM XXCoder: man didnt think yo was so bloodthristy
10:47 PM Tom_L: XXCoder, as long as it's somebody else's
10:47 PM XXCoder: well yeah self-bloodthristy dont last long
10:47 PM XXCoder: ;)
11:27 PM travis_farmer: Morning :coffee:
11:28 PM XXCoder: ☕ fun unicode
11:29 PM travis_farmer: why does your show up, but not mine?
11:29 PM XXCoder: easy. mine is real unicode charactor
11:29 PM XXCoder: discord converts it to :coffee:
11:29 PM travis_farmer: ahh, i see... figures
11:33 PM travis_farmer: ☕️
11:34 PM XXCoder: there you go. now you have 3 cups to drink
11:34 PM travis_farmer: lol
