12:10 AM Rhine_Labs: travis_farmer coffee sounds good.
12:21 AM travis_farmer: :-)
12:21 AM Rhine_Labs: Wife comes home car is hot and bubbling sound? Said its been doing it for a week WTF!
12:47 AM Deejay: moin
02:26 AM randy: morning
04:17 AM Tom_L: morning
04:54 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:28 AM Deejay: moin
05:50 AM JT-Cave: wow it's August all ready
05:51 AM XXCoder: yeah
05:51 AM XXCoder: each decade you age, they remove a hour from a day ;)
06:04 AM JT-Cave: rooster just crowed
06:16 AM travis_farmer: 56F/72F @ 92%rh
07:44 AM JT-Cave: pretty good chance for rain here today
07:44 AM JT-Cave: and not so hot
07:44 AM * JT-Cave starts his chicken day
09:54 AM roycroft: it's going to be a bit warmer here today, with no chance of rain
09:58 AM JT-Shop: we just got a 1/4"
09:59 AM travis_farmer: all at once? or in drops? ;-)
09:59 AM JT-Shop: dunno, I was in town
10:19 AM roycroft: i need to test my new welder today
10:19 AM roycroft: not the most fun thing to do on a hot day
10:20 AM JT-Shop: friends wife passed from ms sunday :(
10:25 AM travis_farmer: :-(
10:28 AM roycroft: sorry to hear that, jt-shop
10:52 AM Chris-D: Hi! I asked yesterday for using a VM to communicate via ethernet with a 7i76e. Now it all works fine with a dual boot PC (via switch there were some errors, but now directly all is fine. Thanks guys! :-)
10:55 AM roycroft: that's great
10:55 AM roycroft: and for production a much better way of doing it than trying to use a vm
10:55 AM perry_j1987: i cannot get this tap to take a bite in the flange holes of this ballscrew nut
10:56 AM perry_j1987: what hardness did they get that thing up to!
10:56 AM perry_j1987: lol
10:57 AM Tom_L: 106F today 108F predicted
10:58 AM Tom_L: yeah, jt sorry to hear that
10:59 AM perry_j1987: going to plan B. i'll turn some plugs to press into the holes that have a smaller thread inside lol
10:59 AM Chris-D: Yes, roycroft - for production I wanted to use a separate ITX-PC, of course :-)
11:00 AM Chris-D: One question regarding the 7i76e expansion connector headers P1/P2  and their 34 I/O pins. When I only want to use them all as simple 34 I/O pins nevertheless I have to flash an additional bit file, right ? I looked at the bit file list for the 7i76e by mesa and found "7i76e_JUSTIO.bit" - is that what I need?
11:01 AM roycroft: jt-shop would know that better than me
11:02 AM Tom_L: typically the 'functions' on a pin are the secondary function and the primary function is IO so if it's not defined in the config= it will show as GPIO
11:03 AM Tom_L: i may be off but i don't think you need a special bit (bin) file for that
11:07 AM Chris-D: Tom_L: Hmmm, that was what I also thought first. I tried some things with the first pin of the header (IO17) - but after setting "setp hm2_7i76e.0.gpio.017.is_output 1" and "setp hm2_7i76e.0.gpio.017.out 0" I still get +5V on that pin. Is the pin name not correct and this pin is located at the field I/O terminals?. I only have powered the 5V part
11:07 AM Chris-D: so I couldn't check. But was is the right designation of this IO17 pin?
11:07 AM Chris-D: what
11:09 AM Chris-D: I cannot find any others in the halmeter list :-(
11:16 AM JT-Shop: roycroft, thanks
11:20 AM JT-Shop: Chris-D, use mesact and look at 7i76e_7i76_5abob or something like that
11:20 AM * JT-Shop takes a nap now
11:28 AM Chris-D: ah, interesting. Didn't know this software mesact. Thanks, I will have a lokk :-)
11:28 AM Chris-D: look
11:28 AM Chris-D: See you later :-)
12:25 PM * JT-Shop heads off to Foxy
12:45 PM perry_j1987: so it occured to me the other day that i "COULD" just do cam for the screw thread and turn it between centers with a tailstock offset away from me
12:45 PM perry_j1987: to make a sort of compression screw
12:46 PM JT[m]: Chris-d did you find mesact?
01:06 PM Tom_L: he left
01:06 PM Tom_L: Foxy gonna put you back to work?
01:23 PM Tom_L: already at 100F ... 37.7C
01:26 PM roycroft: 33 will be the high here today
01:26 PM Jym: This was quite interesting way to create squaring guides on a rotary table
01:26 PM Jym: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awkhVmcxgR0
01:26 PM roycroft: but its only 24 right now
01:26 PM Tom_L: they're predicting a record high here
01:26 PM roycroft: rather pleasant
01:26 PM roycroft: our record high for the day is 39
01:26 PM roycroft: thank goodness we'll get nowhere near that
01:27 PM roycroft: i grabbed some lunch while doing my invoicing and payroll, and it's almost lunch time
01:28 PM roycroft: since i ate already i can go check out my new welder during my lunch break, before the heat of the day
01:29 PM roycroft: the forecast shows a high of 36 on monday next, then it will cool off to the low 30s after that
01:29 PM roycroft: but we'll be slowly building heat all week
01:30 PM roycroft: i leave on vacation on the 14th
01:30 PM roycroft: and i'll be heading to the coast - i doubt the temperature will hit 20 there the while time i'm gone
01:30 PM Tom_L: taking one or working on projects?
01:30 PM roycroft: i'm going camping
01:31 PM roycroft: not a staycation this time
01:31 PM Jym: Camping or Glamping?
01:31 PM roycroft: i have to have a week on the coast every year - it helps maintain my sanity
01:31 PM roycroft: i don't know
01:31 PM roycroft: i'll be sleeping in a tent
01:31 PM roycroft: so camping
01:31 PM roycroft: but i'll have an air mattress
01:31 PM roycroft: so maybe glamping? :)
01:32 PM roycroft: i don't have a trailer or rv
01:32 PM Jym: ah ok, Yeah, I have an air mattress too, still camping compared to everyone else sleeping in a RV/hotel
01:32 PM roycroft: i just load my crap into my prius
01:32 PM roycroft: and pile a bunch more on the roof
01:32 PM roycroft: and set up a tent
01:32 PM roycroft: my primary cooler is a yeti
01:33 PM roycroft: so that might count as a glamping cooler
01:33 PM Jym: I was gonna say... how you get all that IN a prius, on top makes sense now
01:33 PM roycroft: i'm pondering piling it all into the back of my pickup
01:33 PM roycroft: it would be a lot easier that way
01:34 PM roycroft: my old pickup i would not trust on a 2 hour drive to the coast
01:34 PM Tom_L: speaking of camping they just opened a Scheels here ... dunno how widespread they are but it's quite a place
01:34 PM roycroft: but my new one will do fine
01:34 PM roycroft: i don't know what scheels is
01:34 PM roycroft: so not widespread to my part of the world, at least
01:34 PM roycroft: or maybe so, and i'm just ignorant
01:35 PM Tom_L: https://www.scheels.com/stores
01:35 PM roycroft: there is a sheels store in idaho
01:36 PM roycroft: but idaho is in a different universe to where i live
01:36 PM roycroft: we do have a cabela's now
01:36 PM Tom_L: like i said, i wasn't sure how widespread they were
01:36 PM roycroft: it's over in springtucky, though, not eugene
01:36 PM Tom_L: makes cabela's look small
01:36 PM roycroft: and we have a dick's sporting goods in eugene
01:36 PM Tom_L: we have one of those too
01:36 PM Tom_L: as well as dicks
01:38 PM Tom_L: they took over the 2 floors sears had in the mall and added onto that
01:38 PM roycroft: dick's took over where gi goe's used to be
01:38 PM roycroft: cabela's built a whole new store
01:39 PM roycroft: which i think cabela's are wont to do, as they like to build huge displays and stuff
01:39 PM roycroft: they wouldn't fit into an average store
01:40 PM roycroft: ok, it's time to go see if the new welder works
01:40 PM roycroft: and if it does, if it really can weld 1/4" steel in a single pass
01:40 PM roycroft: i set it up last night, but by the time i was finished it was too late to do any welding
02:10 PM JT[m]: Tom_L just finished the double chucker
02:16 PM roycroft: so the welder works great
02:16 PM roycroft: really good penetration to 1/4", and really nice beads
02:16 PM roycroft: my old welder did not have an inductance control, and the wire feed rate was stepped, not continuous
02:18 PM roycroft: nowo to deal with my welding helmet, which i cannot see through properly
02:20 PM Tom_L: 103F now
02:26 PM JT-Shop: 78°F
02:27 PM travis_farmer: 72F :-)
02:27 PM Tom_L: wanna trade?
02:27 PM JT-Shop: nope
02:31 PM * Tom_L heads out
02:35 PM Lcvette[m]: JT-Shop: which is the correct mesact tool for 7i76 and 2.9+?
02:35 PM Lcvette[m]: still 1?
02:41 PM JT-Shop: no use mesact which is mesact II
02:41 PM JT-Shop: I moved II to mesact and moved 1.x.x to mesact1
02:41 PM JT-Shop: what's special about 2.9?
02:50 PM Lcvette[m]: py2 verse py3
02:50 PM Lcvette[m]: didn't know if one was different for that
02:50 PM JT-Shop: mesact has been python 3 all along
02:50 PM Lcvette[m]: 😲
02:50 PM JT-Shop: have you looked at the new one?
02:50 PM JT-Shop: https://github.com/jethornton/mesact
02:50 PM JT-Shop: I need to work on the documents and a few other things that don't make any difference like Help > About
02:50 PM Lcvette[m]: not yet
02:50 PM Lcvette[m]: im git'ing it now
02:50 PM Lcvette[m]: 😄
02:54 PM JT-Shop: Lcvette[m], one of my goals was to reduce the size of mesact and constrain it to 800 x 600
03:00 PM Lcvette[m]: Nice
04:07 PM Tom_L: thermometer says it's 109°F in the shade
04:07 PM roycroft: climate change is a hoax
04:08 PM Tom_L: i've seen 110 here before but it's been a while
04:11 PM * travis_farmer has a migraine :-(
04:11 PM roycroft: must be all that air conditioning you suddenly have, travis_farmer
04:11 PM roycroft: it gave you a brain freeze
04:13 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, you know anybody using mesact on the rpi?
04:13 PM Tom_L: just curious
04:13 PM JT-Shop: I've messed with it a but don't know who uses it
04:14 PM Tom_L: which os are you testing with?
04:14 PM JT-Shop: hmm, I think it's 11 but I'll check in a bit
04:15 PM Tom_L: that would be bullseye
04:15 PM Tom_L: 64 or 32?
04:15 PM JT-Shop: I "think" it's 32
04:16 PM Tom_L: ok
04:17 PM Tom_L: my bullseye is 11.7 now and was arm7 but after updating it's showing aarch64
04:17 PM Tom_L: i don't get it
04:17 PM Tom_L: i marked the sd card too
04:21 PM Tom_L: i'm gonna test this and see what's going on
04:22 PM JT-Shop: ok
04:22 PM Tom_L: i don't see why the update would switch it to 64bit but that's what appears to be
04:22 PM Tom_L: burning the same image again and gonna look closer
04:25 PM acer is now known as _unreal_
04:26 PM JT-Cave: 11.7 5.15.65-rt49-v7L+ ENC7k
04:27 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:28 PM Tom_dev: Linux raspberrypi 6.1.21-v8+ #1642 SMP PREEMPT Mon Apr 3 17:24:16 BST 2023 aarch64 GNU/Linux
04:28 PM _unreal_: Oh Tom_dev that reminds me I need to order the new UNO board
04:29 PM _unreal_: arm based arduino uno
04:29 PM _unreal_: 40mzh but a drop in " " replacement for the arduino uno
04:29 PM travis_farmer: you getting the wifi one?
04:29 PM _unreal_: I'm not sure
04:29 PM _unreal_: I dont need the extra features
04:29 PM _unreal_: plus it has the secondary CPU that is like 4x the power but I dont know what its use is if its not connected to the GPIO of the standard UNO profile
04:30 PM _unreal_: only the 40mhz arm processor
04:30 PM _unreal_: travis_farmer, what do you know about the two different versions
04:30 PM _unreal_: travis_farmer, I'm looking to get GRBL built for it for LASER
04:30 PM _unreal_: I want to do a straight up SWAP out with my current setup in my expensive laser etcher. It has an arduiono uno
04:31 PM _unreal_: works great but has some issues. I need a faster processor in any case
04:31 PM travis_farmer: that the wifi feature is only as a wifi modem, and the LED matrix looks useless, but it depends on your needs
04:33 PM _unreal_: that version has 2 processors
04:33 PM _unreal_: the secondary processor if mem serves is like 260mhz
04:36 PM Tom_L: mmm mesaflash is up to 6.4.8 now
04:37 PM Tom_L: 3.4.8
04:39 PM Tom_L: you have to build it though, the repo is still at 3.4.6
04:40 PM JT-Shop: I wonder what was changed in mesaflash? Hey pcw--home
04:40 PM Tom_L: dunno
04:44 PM Tom_L: ok let's see what this image looks like
04:46 PM JT-Shop: which image are you trying
04:49 PM Tom_L: the old one i had of bullseye
04:50 PM Tom_L: it just booted as armv7l
04:50 PM Tom_L: now i bet if i do an update it goes to arm64
04:51 PM Tom_L: do i want update or upgrade?
04:52 PM CaptHindsight[m]: update will just update the current distro version
04:52 PM CaptHindsight[m]: upgrade supposedly will move the current install to a newer version
04:53 PM JT-Shop: update just updates the info, I usually do dist-upgrade for some unknown reason
04:53 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:54 PM Tom_L: but would either affect the bit status? 32/64
04:55 PM Tom_dev: Linux raspberrypi 5.15.61-v7l+ #1579 SMP Fri Aug 26 11:13:03 BST 2022 armv7l GNU/Linux
04:55 PM Tom_L: if mesact will build on that i won't need to update it
04:56 PM Tom_dev: i forgot all the packages i'll need for that..
04:56 PM Tom_dev: git git-gui debhelper...
04:56 PM Tom_dev: y
04:57 PM Tom_dev: need to recopy the ssh keys
04:58 PM Tom_dev: turn on ssh
04:59 PM Tom_L: do the chmod stuff on the keys
05:01 PM roycroft: so a week and a half ago diesel was $3.53/gallon, and had been for several days
05:02 PM roycroft: i went to get fuel and it had gone up to $3.79 that day
05:02 PM roycroft: oh well
05:02 PM roycroft: but now, today, it's $4.69
05:02 PM roycroft: i'm not sure there's any particular reason for it to have gone up so much so fast, other than some oil company exec deciding he needs a new yacht
05:03 PM Tom_L: gdebi...
05:03 PM JT-Shop: Tom_L, just looks like some small improvements in mesaflash and a fix for 5i25 recover
05:04 PM Lcvette[m]: pcw--home: is it possible to break up the spindle encoder a,b,z inputs into 3 index pulse inputs for x y z for homing?
05:04 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, why does the builder put the results in the home and mesact2 directory now?
05:04 PM JT-Shop: tig welding a copper ring didn't work as well as brass
05:04 PM Tom_L: did you change something?
05:04 PM JT-Shop: maybe I forked something up... let me see
05:05 PM Tom_dev: both have the same timestamp
05:06 PM Tom_dev: mesact_2.0.0_armhf.deb so that's right so far
05:07 PM Tom_dev: and installed and ran
05:07 PM Tom_dev: Linux raspberrypi 5.15.61-v7l+ #1579 SMP Fri Aug 26 11:13:03 BST 2022 armv7l GNU/Linux
05:10 PM JT-Shop: fails to build here missing mesact.pdf...
05:10 PM Tom_L: huh. i just cloned built and installed it
05:11 PM Tom_L: with that fresh image
05:12 PM JT-Shop: so did I, when I moved mesact.pdf up one dir it builds but doesn't put a copy anywhere else but the dir above mesact
05:13 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
05:22 PM Tom_L: odd it puts the files in both places
05:22 PM Tom_L: never did that before
05:22 PM JT-Shop: does it create the mesact2 directory?
05:23 PM Tom_L: i did a git clone git@github.com:tlight9/mesact mesact2
05:23 PM Tom_L: and my repo should be up to date with yours
05:23 PM Tom_L: i didn't update it today though
05:24 PM Tom_L: says i'm 3 behind...
05:24 PM Tom_L: lemme try it again
05:24 PM JT-Shop: when I clone it now I just send it to github/mesact
05:24 PM JT-Shop: git clone git@github.com:jethornton/mesact.git github/mesact
05:24 PM Tom_L: i'll rebuild it now that it's up to date and see what happens
05:30 PM Tom_L: yeah i get the pdf error now
05:30 PM Tom_L: doesn't build
05:30 PM JT-Shop: move the pdf file to the next dir upo
05:30 PM JT-Shop: up
05:32 PM Tom_L: ok now all the results are in the dir above mesact2 like they normally were
05:32 PM JT-Shop: good
05:32 PM Tom_L: did you fix your gitignore or should i just copy the .deb over?
05:32 PM Tom_L: doesn't look like it changed
05:32 PM JT-Shop: just copy the .deb to mesact then pr
05:33 PM Tom_L: ok
05:33 PM Tom_L: anything changed that warrants a pr since the first set of pr?
05:33 PM JT-Shop: not much
05:33 PM Tom_L: i'll probably wait a bit
05:34 PM Tom_L: i wanna do an os update and see if all that changes
05:34 PM JT-Shop: ok
05:34 PM Tom_L: that was the main purpose of this sd iso install
05:35 PM Tom_L: i'll try the dist-upgrade
05:35 PM JT-Shop: ok
05:51 PM Tom_L: so are you gonna move the pdf in your repo?
05:52 PM JT-Shop: yes or change the path to it
05:52 PM Tom_L: ok
05:52 PM JT-Shop: I'll go do that now and retire for the night
05:53 PM Tom_L: i'll get an update after bit
05:53 PM Tom_L: so far the dist-upgrade looks like all armhf
05:54 PM Tom_L: maybe the upgrade by itself did it
05:54 PM Tom_L: i dunno
05:54 PM Tom_L: looks ok now
05:57 PM JT-Cave: I just moved the pdf up one dir
06:01 PM Tom_L: ok
06:14 PM Tom_L: ok something changes the OS from 32 to 64bit but i can't figure out what
06:52 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
06:52 PM Tom_dev: if anyone cares: https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/101790/how-to-revert-from-rpi-update-to-stable-build
06:53 PM Tom_L: i'm updating and if it changes i'll try that
07:06 PM Tom_L: yeah, that update changed it to 64bit
07:16 PM Tom_L: and that command doesn't revert it
08:13 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
09:28 PM pcw---home: Lcvette[m] Yes
09:49 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
10:47 PM Lcvette[m]: pcw---home: sweet, is there a firmware for that or is a customized firmware required?
10:48 PM pcw---home: Which card?
