03:23 AM Deejay: moin
03:35 AM travis_farmer[m]: Morning ☕
04:16 AM Tom_L: morning
04:44 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:59 AM lucymews[m] is now known as lucymews0[m]
06:00 AM JT-Cave: rooster just crowed
06:45 AM JT-Cave: 79°F
07:12 AM travis_farmer: 70F, with storms predicted 11am
08:07 AM JT-Shop: gotta love this "Hi, I'm interested in your products but not much is in stock... Are you supposed to be back in stock in a close future or should I look into alternative?"
08:12 AM Loetmichel: at least its honest
08:15 AM rmu: I regularly get e-mails with "we need to urgently spend 2mio€ on your products, payment is 50% in advance 50% after delivery." -- never figured out how that kind of scam works.
08:15 AM rmu: probably some kind of advance-fee scam
08:17 AM JT-Shop: that's a scam for sure
08:17 AM JT-Shop: but he/she/it didn't even mention what the interest is for...
08:18 AM * JT-Shop goes to clean chicken shit
08:24 AM rmu: those scam emails also never do specify what they want to buy...
08:24 AM JT-Cave: I think my response might be with no clue what your interest is I can't make a recommendation
08:26 AM * Loetmichel once heard a boss say "Manche jobs machen mehr spass wenn es die Konkurrenz machen muss!" (Some jobs are more fun if the competition has to do them.)
08:26 AM Loetmichel: that boss was sooo much right!
08:32 AM JT-Cave: yup, if I don't want to do a job I price it so high that if I get the job I'm still happy
08:34 AM sensille: did that ever happen?
08:34 AM Loetmichel: sensille: me or JT-Cave?
08:35 AM sensille: JT
08:35 AM Loetmichel: for me: boss said that as he succssfully sicced a "problem customer" on the direct competitor :)
08:37 AM sensille: i was curious if he ever got a job he purposly overpriced
08:38 AM Loetmichel: IF he did he wasnt serious enough with the overpricing :)
08:40 AM CloudEvil: The key to doing overpricing right is to price it at a price you're happy to do the job
08:41 AM CloudEvil: Unprofitable annoying jobs at 3* the normal expected market price suddenly may be neither.
08:46 AM Tom_L: 81F
08:47 AM travis_farmer: note to self... when using CloneZilla to clone a drive, remember to download CloneZilla and load it onto a flash-drive...
09:04 AM travis_farmer: ... apparently, clonezilla will not clone a larger disk to a smaller disk, so that was wasted effort
09:08 AM Loetmichel: it should.
09:08 AM Loetmichel: IF the larger disk is defragmentet and not filled more than the new one has space
09:08 AM Loetmichel: it CAN resize file systems, but only if the "excess" is not fragmented with data
09:09 AM travis_farmer: it said that it could not, right in the software...
09:09 AM JT[m]: Been a while since I used clonzilla
09:10 AM Loetmichel: oh, are you sure? i may confuse it with a similar tool, but i am pretty sure it can
09:11 AM Tom_L: cat /dev/sdx > /dev/sdy
09:12 AM travis_farmer[m4: i ran it, and it stopped and said it could not do it
09:17 AM Tom_L: right click source partition and click 'shrink volume'
09:17 AM Tom_L: https://www.ubackup.com/articles/clonezilla-clone-larger-disk-to-smaller-disk-4348.html
09:20 AM travis_farmer[m4: that's in windows... but i was already on that page reading it ;-)
09:26 AM travis_farmer[m4: maybe i will try installing Gparted on my LinuxCNC drive, the 8TB one. resize it, then run clonezilla...
09:30 AM roycroft: if it were me i'd probably just do a fresh install of linux on the new, smaller drive
09:31 AM roycroft: linuxcnc is self-contained, and your config could be backed up onto a thumb drive and restored to the new install easily
10:14 AM JT-Shop: travis_farmer[m4, what are you trying to do?
10:15 AM travis_farmer[m4: i need a hard-drive to backup my server, and thought i could use the 8TB i used in my LCNC computer (only one i had at the time).
10:16 AM JT-Shop: ah ok
10:43 AM rmu: 8TB linuxcnc drive? why?
10:44 AM roycroft: he's looking to replace the 8TB drive with a 1TB drive
10:54 AM rmu: i would probably reinstall linuxcnc on the new drive, verify it works, then boot from old drive into rescue mode, rsync the whole drive onto new drive, chroot there, grub-install, and be done, or some variation like that
10:55 AM rmu: rsync behaves nicer when interrupted that cp IME
11:05 AM Rab: rmu, that's the approach I would take for moving to a smaller drive.
11:08 AM Rab: Certain things must be excluded when copying a live Linux install, however. Here's my magic rsync incantation: sudo rsync -aAXv --exclude={"/dev/*","/proc/*","/sys/*","/tmp/*","/run/*","/mnt/*","/lost+found","/home/*","/<mounted target partition>/*"} / --delete /<mounted target partition>
11:09 AM Rab: (--delete because this is for refreshing an existing backup)
11:11 AM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
11:11 AM Unterhausen: Stewmac wants to give me a free membership if I spend $30
11:12 AM Rab: I (still) keep /home on a separate partition, to make things a little easier. For a simple environment like a LinuxCNC control I would install the OS from scratch, copy over /home, and reinstall any desired packages. There are a couple of ways on Debian to pull out a list of packages you hand-installed on the old system, if you want to recreate the same environment.
11:12 AM Tom_L: doesn't sound free to me
11:12 AM Unterhausen: they usually charge $55
11:13 AM Unterhausen: actually, just have to make a purchase, no minimum
11:14 AM Unterhausen: I forgot I wanted to update my repair vise, but it was in my stewmac cart
11:16 AM Unterhausen: I had an idea for a youtube video, buy a batch of cheap neck blanks off of ebay and see which ones break easiest
11:16 AM roycroft: yeah, they sent me that email too, unterhausen
11:16 AM Rab: How can this vendor possibly justify a "membership"
11:16 AM roycroft: there are a few things i've been meaning to buy from them, so maybe i'll take them up on it
11:16 AM Unterhausen: their shipping always seemed expensive, but amazon has us all spoiled
11:17 AM Unterhausen: if you were a guitar repairman, stewmax would definitely make sense
11:17 AM roycroft: they do have a lot of specialty tools for luthiers
11:17 AM roycroft: but some of their tools are also very useful for general woodworking
11:18 AM roycroft: and their masking tape dispensers are useful for all sorts of trades
11:18 AM roycroft: i usually buy one or two of them when they go on sale before christmas
11:18 AM roycroft: i could use a couple more, but i have pretty much enough of them now for all the sizes/types of masking tape i stock
11:19 AM Unterhausen: their binding tape is really nice, even for binding
11:19 AM roycroft: one of my favorite tools from them is the mini router base
11:19 AM roycroft: it's made for a dremel, but i also bought a foredom compatible handpiece from them that has dremel threads
11:19 AM Unterhausen: is that for a dremel?
11:19 AM Unterhausen: nvmind
11:20 AM Unterhausen: I want the lee valley version
11:20 AM Unterhausen: if you search for masking tape dispenser, they don't know what you are talking about
11:20 AM Unterhausen: they call it a "tape deck"
11:20 AM roycroft: https://www.stewmac.com/luthier-tools-and-supplies/types-of-tools/routers-and-bits/routers/precision-router-base/
11:21 AM roycroft: https://www.stewmac.com/luthier-tools-and-supplies/types-of-tools/routers-and-bits/routers/foredom-power-tools/foredom-handpiece/
11:21 AM roycroft: i use a lot of skinny masking tapes
11:21 AM roycroft: i have skinny sizes from 1/4" to 5/8"
11:21 AM Unterhausen: lee valley wants twice what stew mac wants for their router base. Must be a first that sm is cheaper
11:22 AM roycroft: those tape dispensers are nice for that
11:23 AM Unterhausen: if you are going to bind a guitar with tape, a dispenser is almost mandatory if you don't want to lose your mind
11:23 AM JT-Cave: Tom_L, I've made the switch to mesact 2.0.0 so if you want to build the rpi debs I'm ready for them
11:24 AM Tom_L: if i can remember how :)
11:24 AM JT-Cave: :)
11:24 AM Tom_L: also i needed to update one of the rpi OS since it was missing some packages when you switched to mesact2
11:24 AM Tom_L: and i don't remember which one
11:25 AM Rab: roycroft, do you have a favored no-residue double-sided tape? Somebody recommended this specific stuff on Practical Machinist: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07L6BS2KX
11:25 AM JT-Cave: ok, no rush just when you have time
11:25 AM roycroft: i don't use double sided tape much
11:25 AM Tom_L: likely won't be today
11:26 AM * JT-Cave heads to Walnut Ridge to make a trade
11:26 AM roycroft: and when i do have a use for it, i just use blue masking tape on each part, and some ca glue on the masking tape
11:26 AM roycroft: instant double sided tape
11:26 AM JT-Cave: I "think" everything works now...
11:26 AM Rab: I would be using it on metal; carpet tape is my favorite high-stickum tape, but apparently coolant turns it into goo.
11:26 AM Tom_L: i'll break it
11:26 AM Tom_L: :)
11:27 AM JT-Cave: ok, thanks
11:27 AM roycroft: the folks from shaper are really pushing their double sided tape for the shaper workstation
11:27 AM roycroft: my approach is to build a vacuum clamp for the workstation
11:27 AM roycroft: i just got the fittings for it
11:27 AM roycroft: yes, carpet tape turns to goo with just about any lubricant/solvent
11:28 AM roycroft: i've tried it and never liked it
11:28 AM Unterhausen: the blue tape plus superglue didn't work for me, I'm sure I did something wrong
11:28 AM Rab: Yeah, I think vacuum makes a lot more sense for production than messing with tape.
11:28 AM roycroft: it works for me, unterhausen
11:28 AM roycroft: but i don't like being wasteful
11:28 AM Unterhausen: plus I got superglue on the parts
11:28 AM roycroft: and a vacuum clamp is less wasteful than any double sided tape setup
11:28 AM Unterhausen: maybe my parts weren't flat enough
11:28 AM roycroft: it's also a lot faster
11:29 AM roycroft: and yes, that's a big factor - with the origin i'll be doing a lot of tiny joinery that will only take seconds
11:29 AM roycroft: taking 2 minutes to do a setup and 30 seconds to do the machining operation doesn't make much sense
11:29 AM Unterhausen: I never did talk my client into allowing their vacuum clamp to leak, he's wasted so much time when a simple test would show him I'm right
11:29 AM roycroft: 5 seconds for setup and 30 seconds for the machining makes a lot more sense
11:30 AM Unterhausen: I should show him my vacuum setup on the lathe, about half the vacuum clamp is exposed
11:30 AM roycroft: but there i go being practical again :)
11:30 AM Rab: Unterhausen, can you expand on that? Like some air bleed helps the pump, or?
11:31 AM Unterhausen: it's just that you don't have to worry about leakage
11:31 AM Rab: What kind of pump do you have?
11:31 AM Unterhausen: pressurized air and a venturi
11:31 AM roycroft: i have a venturi pump
11:31 AM Rab: Oh, heh
11:32 AM roycroft: https://roycroft.us/Vacuum_Pump.jpeg
11:32 AM roycroft: i built that about 15 years ago
11:32 AM roycroft: i need to redo the plumbing - i can make it about half the size that it currently is
11:32 AM roycroft: https://www.shapertools.com/en-us/workstation
11:33 AM roycroft: so there's the shaper workstation
11:33 AM Unterhausen: is that tank going to go all oceangate titan on you?
11:33 AM roycroft: if you scroll down, you see the table that attaches to the front of it
11:33 AM Rab: I've always heard those were loud and inefficient, I guess if you have serious shop air it's not a big deal.
11:33 AM roycroft: i'm going to make a new top for the table
11:33 AM roycroft: they're a lot quieter than an electric vacuum pump, and pretty efficient
11:34 AM roycroft: with the vacuum reservoir evacuated, i can pull a strong vacuum in a 4'x6' vacuum bag in less than a minute, and the pump cycles once/hour or so
11:34 AM Unterhausen: the one I used had a muffler on it, and I had ear muffs
11:34 AM roycroft: anyway, i'm going to make a new top for the workstation
11:35 AM roycroft: i'll embed a piece of copper tubing in the top, lengthwise
11:35 AM roycroft: cap one end, and put a vacuum fitting on the other end
11:35 AM roycroft: then i'll glue a sheet of neoprene over the entire top
11:35 AM roycroft: drill some holes down through the neoprene into the copper tubing
11:35 AM Unterhausen: so there is some kind of electric vacuum switch?
11:35 AM roycroft: and i should have a nice vacuum clamp
11:35 AM roycroft: yes, there is
11:36 AM Unterhausen: did you get it as a set?
11:36 AM roycroft: just to the left of the venturi
11:36 AM roycroft: i bought the parts individually, iirc, but you can get a kit
11:37 AM roycroft: https://www.veneersupplies.com/products/Project-V4-Auto-Cycling-Venturi-Vacuum-Press-Kit.html
11:37 AM roycroft: i use this foot pedal for vacuum clamping, but for using the bags i don't bother:
11:37 AM roycroft: https://www.veneersupplies.com/products/Vacuum-Clamping-Add-On.html
11:39 AM Unterhausen: that's nice
11:39 AM roycroft: i'm pretty happy with my setup
11:39 AM roycroft: and vacuum clamping is so fast and nice
11:39 AM Unterhausen: I'm not sure my compressor would keep up with vacuum clamping
11:40 AM roycroft: i have several of these:
11:40 AM roycroft: https://www.rockler.com/rockler-vacuum-clamp-pod-kit
11:40 AM roycroft: i mount them to long pieces of wood, which i clamp to my workbench
11:40 AM roycroft: sanding is so much faster when i'm using vacuum clamps
11:41 AM roycroft: i embed t-tracks in the long pieces of wood, and the clamp pods can be easily adjusted to fit the length of the part that i'm working on
11:42 AM roycroft: i do have a decent size compressor - 5hp motor, 60 gallon tank - but the vacuum pump doesn't cycle all that much, so i think a smaller compressor would work fine
11:48 AM roycroft: https://www.stewmac.com/luthier-tools-and-supplies/types-of-tools/screw-removal-pliers
11:48 AM roycroft: there's a unique tool from stewmac that everyone can use
11:56 AM Unterhausen: that's the kind of thing they rebrand from amazon though
12:01 PM roycroft: yeah, i see simlar ones on amazon for less
12:02 PM roycroft: so not all that unique
12:04 PM Rab: That particular model appears to be an actual Japanese brand. I wasn't able to find cheaper, or another domestic source. You can get them from Japan, though. https://www.ebay.com/itm/293280245475
12:05 PM Rab: Engineer is another Japanese name brand; these are somewhat cheaper: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002L6HJAA
12:06 PM roycroft: yeah, i was just looking at that same amazon link
12:06 PM roycroft: those are larger than the stewmac ones, but there's a smaller size of the engineer pliers
12:07 PM Rab: Indeed: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001D7KU7W
12:07 PM Rab: I don't know why Japan has a lock on screw removal.
12:07 PM roycroft: yes
12:08 PM roycroft: i've been using old, worn out klein side cutters for screw removal for decades
12:09 PM roycroft: the engineer pliers seem like they would do a much better job
12:09 PM * roycroft has added them to his wish list
12:09 PM Rab: Maybe they don't. Here is an even cheaper option: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BDRPGGFQ
12:10 PM roycroft: i'll spend a little more for made in japan
12:10 PM Rab: Engineer stuff is pretty good quality.
12:10 PM roycroft: and i won't hold out and wait for festool to release a pair in a systainer for $125
01:41 PM Unterhausen: I slowed down a lot on the car hitch project. Two more plastic parts left to put back and I'm sitting here in front of the computer instead
01:43 PM * roycroft will be painting the front sides of his trailer rims today, and then they'll be ready for tires
01:44 PM roycroft: next i need to take the hubs off and see if the brakes can be salvaged
01:44 PM roycroft: i really need to put the wheels back on though, so i can measure for fenders
01:45 PM roycroft: that's going to hold up the whole project, and i think i should let the paint cure on the rims for a couple weeks before having the tires mounted
01:45 PM roycroft: otherwise i'll likely be repainting them again right away
01:56 PM Unterhausen: now that stewmac gave me free shipping, I might actually finish my guitar projects
01:56 PM Unterhausen: nah
01:57 PM roycroft: i still haven't found anything there that i need right now
01:57 PM roycroft: i have a few days to do so - the promo ends on the 31st
03:08 PM travis_farmer[m4: so, i just happened to look down at the clock on my computer... thought the dang thing had an error... it was giving me a 404 error! turns out, my mind is frazzled, and the TIME was 4:04PM :-)
03:09 PM * roycroft can only imagine what will happen to travis_farmer's brain when the clock turns 4:20
03:09 PM travis_farmer[m4: ROFLMAO :-)
03:09 PM travis_farmer[m4: it will puff into a cloud of smoke ;-)
03:32 PM Unterhausen: I would be done with my trailer hitch project if I had a 24mm socket
03:32 PM Unterhausen: so, I have to take a shower, go to the store, get a 24mm wrench, crawl around on the floor again getting dirty
03:33 PM Unterhausen: if I had a 15/16" socket I could use that.
03:33 PM roycroft: or pull out an adjustable wrench
03:33 PM Tom_L: just use a pipe wrench :)
03:34 PM * roycroft is on hold with the dmv right now, because their website is useless regarding information about getting a vin number, title, and registration for a trailer
03:34 PM roycroft: i'm expecting to be on hold for 45 minutes to an hour, and then to be told immediately that i should use the website
03:36 PM Tom_L: you have to title one that small?
03:36 PM Tom_L: we put an 'under 2m' tag on and go down the road
03:39 PM Unterhausen: the hooks for the safety chain keep any wrench except a socket from fitting
03:39 PM Unterhausen: just get a custom plate from amazon
03:39 PM Unterhausen: that's what I do with our cars, no stickers needed in pennsylvania
03:40 PM Unterhausen: too bad you can't get custom inspection stickers from amazon
03:44 PM Tom_L: JT-Cave, you around?
03:44 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
03:47 PM Tom_dev: JT-Cave, error: dependency not satisfiable: python3-pyqt5 >=5.15.0
03:47 PM Tom_dev: on the rpi buster install
03:48 PM Tom_dev: i'll try bookworm and see how that goes
03:48 PM Tom_L: i'm not sure where to point the repo to do an update on these either
03:50 PM Tom_L: i'm not even sure where to find that list on the rpi now it's been so long
03:50 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Tom_L: newer LCNC on Buster for rpi?
03:50 PM CaptHindsight[m]: backport python3-pyqt5 >=5.15.0 ?
03:51 PM CaptHindsight[m]: to Buster
03:52 PM Tom_L: i'm trying to package his tool for buster on the rpi and it needs some updating. previously doing an update broke the USB on buster
03:52 PM Tom_L: i'd rather not do that
03:53 PM CaptHindsight[m]: sounds like Linux fun times
03:53 PM Tom_L: i don't think i got this copy from an rpi site rather debian but it's been a while and i forgot where i found it
03:54 PM Tom_L: it works ok on bookworm
03:55 PM Tom_L: how can you tell if you're running 32 or 64bit os on an rpi?
03:55 PM Tom_L: i have bullseye here i could tyr
03:55 PM Tom_L: try
03:58 PM roycroft: so the dmv told me that i need to take my trailer to a dmv office and they will inspect it and issue a vin and title
03:58 PM roycroft: they told me i should get a trip permit so i can legally drive it to the dmv
03:58 PM Tom_L: looks like uname will tell me that
03:58 PM roycroft: and they told me i'll need to have the vin for the trailer in order to purchase the trip permit
03:59 PM Tom_L: stamp some numbers on the frame
03:59 PM * roycroft wonders if anyone else sees a problem with this :)
04:01 PM roycroft: actually, 1800lbs gvw is the limit to where i need to license it
04:02 PM roycroft: the empty trailer won't weigh that much
04:02 PM roycroft: but with a load it will weigh much more than that
04:02 PM Tom_L: crap. i haven't set up a repo for this yet
04:02 PM roycroft: so i think it would be legal to drive it to the dmv unloaded
04:02 PM roycroft: as long as it's street-legal - fenders, lights, reflectors, etc.
04:02 PM Tom_L: go for it
04:03 PM roycroft: it's only when have a load on it that it would need to be licensed
04:03 PM Tom_L: if you get pulled over tell the cop the DMV are idiots
04:03 PM roycroft: worst case i'll get a ticket
04:03 PM Tom_L: or jail... maybe prison :)
04:03 PM roycroft: and when i go to court and show them that i was driving it to the dmv to get it titled i'll get it thrown out
04:03 PM Tom_L: just a hassle
04:03 PM roycroft: but these catch-22 situations are always interesting
04:04 PM roycroft: this is how marijuana is illegal federally
04:04 PM roycroft: it's really not illegal
04:04 PM roycroft: you just need a tax stamp for it
04:04 PM roycroft: but to get the tax stamp you have to transport it to the tax office
04:04 PM roycroft: but it's illegal to transport it without a tax stamp
04:05 PM Tom_L: dammit! where's JT-Cave when i need him...
04:05 PM roycroft: that catch-22 was intentional
04:05 PM roycroft: the dmv one i think it just stupidity
04:07 PM Tom_L: so mesact2 isn't mesact2 now.. looks like he renamed it
04:07 PM Tom_L: but i need to clone it so i can build the rpi4 debs for it
04:08 PM Tom_L: err fork rather than clone
04:09 PM Tom_L: how do you rename a branch in github?
04:12 PM travis_farmer[m4: click on the branch drop-down, and select view all branches. on the next page, there is a pensile (sp?)icon to edit the brance
04:12 PM Tom_L: i think i figured it out
04:13 PM travis_farmer[m4: ok
04:14 PM Tom_L: that just renames the branch inside the repo
04:14 PM travis_farmer[m4: oh... hmm
04:14 PM Tom_L: i need to rename a level above that.. the whole repo
04:15 PM Tom_L: i can do it another way but would rather keep the same naming convention as he did
04:15 PM travis_farmer[m4: click on Settings, and it is under the General menu
04:17 PM Tom_L: ok
04:26 PM Tom_L: JT-Cave, on buster i can't seem to find an updated package for python3-pyqt5
04:27 PM Tom_L: so it won't run on this os that i'm using here
04:27 PM Tom_L: arm64 works fine
04:27 PM Tom_L: i looked at the --upgradable list and it doesn't show there
04:28 PM Tom_L: this installed one is 5.11.3 and you require 5.15
04:29 PM Tom_L: i'll see what bullseye looks like
04:30 PM zincboy_ca_on[m]: Has anyone used a flow drill in a cnc machine? I just got one to try out. Any thoughts on starting feeds&speeds?
04:30 PM Tom_L: meh, bullseye is 64bit too
04:31 PM Tom_L: zincboy_ca_on[m], what's a flow drill? coolant thru?
04:32 PM zincboy_ca_on[m]: Friction drill. No cutting action, just melts its way through. For thin tubing or sheet metal.
04:32 PM Tom_L: ahh i googled..
04:32 PM Tom_L: yeah i've seen the end result but never done it
04:32 PM Tom_L: i suspect a higher rpm will get you there quicker
04:33 PM Tom_L: https://www.ipro.si/upload/articles_files/articles_file1503317476.pdf
04:33 PM Tom_L: might get you started
04:35 PM zincboy_ca_on[m]: Thanks. I found a few things but only suggestions on CNC applications. The best one had some sample feed graphs but a note to try it and adjust as needed.
04:35 PM Tom_L: https://montfort-international.com/en/flowdrill-tool/
04:35 PM Tom_L: they give some suggestions too
04:35 PM Tom_L: what size hole?
04:36 PM zincboy_ca_on[m]: The best one I found was: https://pdf.directindustry.com/pdf/flowdrill/user-guide/9213-27160.html. It is for a M5 thread so a 4.5mm hole.
04:37 PM Tom_L: well, actually i've done it but not on purpose :)
04:37 PM zincboy_ca_on[m]: Yes, it usually isn't a problem to get the bit in but getting it out again not so much 🙂
04:43 PM Tom_L: zincboy_ca_on[m], is the tap part of the drill?
04:43 PM Tom_L: you'll probably need a good tap since it will probably harden that area
04:44 PM zincboy_ca_on[m]: No, the tap is a separate step. Usually a form tap.
04:44 PM Tom_L: ok
05:37 PM CaptHindsight[m]: zincboy_ca_on: https://www.ipro.si/upload/articles_files/articles_file1503317476.pdf has a bit about rpm's
05:50 PM JT-Shop: HOT out there
05:51 PM Tom_L: halp!
05:51 PM Tom_L: i'm setting up a new buster and need to know all the tools for git etc
05:51 PM Tom_L: and that deb installer.. forgot the name
05:51 PM JT-Shop: git-gui gdebi git
05:51 PM Tom_L: we're gonna get 104+ coming up
05:52 PM JT-Shop: https://gnipsel.com/linuxcnc/debian-software.html
05:52 PM Tom_L: i had to make a repo on my git to upload these
05:53 PM JT-Shop: nothing over 99 here but the truck said it's 102
05:53 PM Tom_L: yeah i was looking for that and didn't find it
05:53 PM Tom_L: well if we're going off what the truck said... it was 107 yesterday :)
05:54 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Tom_L: what's the relative humidity?
05:54 PM Tom_L: i'm not sure
05:54 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, this buster version won't work either
05:55 PM Tom_L: unless you can find me a 32bit os that works i dunno what to do next
05:55 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.wunderground.com/weather/us/ks/wichita 33%
05:55 PM Tom_L: get that pyqt5 error
05:56 PM Tom_L: trying to update it
05:57 PM Tom_L: nope updated and still errors
05:58 PM Tom_L: may be stuck with the 64bit version only
05:58 PM JT-Shop: for the Rpi?
05:58 PM Tom_L: yes
05:59 PM JT-Shop: hmm I have the 32bit OS on my Rpi I think
05:59 PM Tom_L: i dl the latest buster from the rpi site and did an update and it still errors
05:59 PM JT-Shop: what is the error?
05:59 PM Tom_L: if it works, gimme a link to it because none of these work
05:59 PM Tom_L: dependency is not satisfiable
05:59 PM Tom_L: python3-pyqt5
05:59 PM Tom_L: 5.15
06:00 PM JT-Shop: ohh
06:00 PM Tom_L: 5.11.3
06:00 PM Tom_L: that's where buster stops
06:00 PM Tom_L: afik
06:00 PM JT-Shop: https://gnipsel.com/linuxcnc/rpi4-11.html
06:00 PM JT-Shop: hmm no link to the image
06:01 PM JT-Shop: oh wait there is a link
06:01 PM Tom_L: lemme find a bullseye armhf image
06:01 PM JT-Shop: https://www.raspberrypi.com/software/operating-systems/#raspberry-pi-os-32-bit
06:01 PM Tom_L: how do you burn those to a sd on linux?
06:02 PM Tom_L: wait.. i have a copy already
06:02 PM Tom_L: it's old but i can update it
06:02 PM JT-Shop: I use Gnome Disk Utility
06:02 PM JT-Shop: you told me about it...
06:02 PM Tom_L: i don't think buster will work for this
06:02 PM Tom_L: ahh i'll look
06:03 PM Tom_L: save me booting windows
06:04 PM Tom_L: i must not have it installed on that ssd
06:04 PM JT-Shop: https://gnipsel.com/linuxcnc/rpi4-11.html
06:04 PM Tom_L: what's the package name?
06:05 PM Tom_L: crap. says it's installed... now where did it get put
06:05 PM JT-Shop: Then right click on the iso file and open with disk image writer
06:05 PM Tom_L: it's an xz file
06:06 PM JT-Shop: yup
06:07 PM Tom_L: ok. i'm a bit too rusty...
06:07 PM Tom_L: i had both 32 & 64 bit already downloaded
06:07 PM JT-Shop: it's just a compressed iso I think... but I might be wrong so in any case right click on the xz file and open with disk image writer
06:07 PM Tom_L: it's copying
06:07 PM JT-Shop: try castor oil...
06:07 PM JT-Shop: it will loosen you up
06:08 PM Tom_L: :)
06:10 PM Tom_L: oh
06:10 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, how do i find the authentication keys for git.. i had to set up a new repo and i forgot where they were or how to authenticate it
06:10 PM Tom_L: i have keys, just lost em :)
06:12 PM JT-Shop: hmm, let me think
06:13 PM JT-Shop: ah ok you did a pr for each build
06:13 PM JT-Shop: https://github.com/jethornton/mesact/pulls
06:13 PM Tom_L: i forked mesact to my repo
06:14 PM Tom_L: haven't done anything on yours yet
06:14 PM Tom_L: but i need to get git gui to upload to my repo
06:14 PM Tom_L: local to git
06:15 PM Tom_L: i can work on that with bookworm while this bullseye is loading
06:20 PM JT-Shop: long day here but home with the Z51 spoiler so time to relax with a glass of vino
06:20 PM JT-Shop: it's the weekend right?
06:21 PM XXCoder: close enough if you work 4 day week
06:22 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, do you remember how to generate a ssh key for git gui?
06:23 PM Tom_L: i'll have to figure that out on the bullseye sd
06:23 PM XXCoder: i remember that its a bash command but not more than that
06:23 PM Tom_L: and i probably have notes somewhere
06:30 PM rene-dev57 is now known as rene-dev5
07:41 PM perry_j1987: do you have to get a paid extension to 4th axis tapers
07:41 PM perry_j1987: with fusion360
08:17 PM Tom_L: trying yet another os. that one was 64bit
09:43 PM CaptHindsight[m]: perry_j1987: do they even offer a 4th axis for f360 anymore?
09:44 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I thought that they crippled anything over 3-axis and limit the number of projects that you can save
09:44 PM perry_j1987: they have a paid for extension
09:44 PM perry_j1987: 11 tokens per day whatever that equates to
09:51 PM perry_j1987: i can make tool paths for everything but this taper lol
09:52 PM Tom_L: mill?
09:53 PM perry_j1987: ya
09:54 PM Tom_L: what sort of taper?
09:54 PM Tom_L: must be something round
09:57 PM perry_j1987: i want to make a feed screw on the 4th
09:57 PM roycroft: randy meisner has left the building
09:57 PM roycroft: that's two in two days
09:58 PM * roycroft wonders who will be the third
10:00 PM Tom_L: still unable to ssh to github even after copying the pub key
10:15 PM CaptHindsight[m]: roycroft: depends on who you decide is in the same group
10:16 PM CaptHindsight[m]: popular pop/rock musicians
10:16 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.worldometers.info/world-population/
10:17 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.worldlifeexpectancy.com/live-world-death-totals
10:43 PM perry_j1987: well i can generate simple gcode at one z height to cut this thread
10:43 PM roycroft: it's usually celebrities where the rule of three is applied
10:43 PM roycroft: and tony bennett passed days ago, so he isn't part of this group
10:43 PM perry_j1987: i suppose i'll shift focus to making a pythong script to post process the gcode to add the taper where i want it heh
