03:53 AM mol[m] is now known as mol_420[m]
04:26 AM travis_farmer[m4: Morning ☕️
04:38 AM spikee0[m]: how do i know it is working ? :A
04:38 AM spikee0[m]: so i flashed it to the mesa 7i96s
04:38 AM spikee0[m]: I'd almost assume to see some encoder inputs here or something like that
04:38 AM spikee0[m]: IO Connections for P1 -> 7I96_2... (full message at <https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/libera.chat/67a664f1914d0b09224ba208fcfd8013aee4e9b4>)
04:39 AM Tom_L: morning
04:42 AM spikee0[m]: * mesa 7i96s (7i85)
04:42 AM spikee0[m]: s/*//, s/(7i85)/- https://forum.linuxcnc.org/39-pncconf/47881-index-homing-mesa-7i96s?start=10#261531/
04:45 AM Tom_L: spikee0[m], your first post there does show encoders at the bottom
04:46 AM spikee0[m]: so i guess it works 😛
04:46 AM spikee0[m]: can i use pcncconf for this or does it need to be done manually?
04:47 AM Tom_L: use mesact
04:47 AM Tom_L: better than pncconfig
04:48 AM Tom_L: https://gnipsel.com/linuxcnc/mesact/
04:48 AM Tom_L: https://github.com/jethornton/mesact
04:48 AM spikee0[m]: thanks
04:49 AM spikee0[m]: for whatever reason my wifi is sooooo slow now on debian
04:49 AM spikee0[m]: like kb/s
04:49 AM spikee0[m]: super weitd
04:49 AM spikee0[m]: weird
04:49 AM spikee0[m]: worked fine before afaik\
04:49 AM travis_farmer[m4: your not usig your mesa over your network are you?
04:50 AM JT-Cave: morning
04:51 AM spikee0[m]: i use it on my eth port
04:51 AM spikee0[m]: wifi is just for the internet
04:52 AM travis_farmer[m4: ok
04:54 AM spikee0[m]: i like literally get 50kb/s or so
04:54 AM spikee0[m]: so weird\
05:08 AM spikee0[m]: got mesact installed
05:08 AM * spikee0[m] uploaded an image: (74KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/cJJtPhcxievoOFnFjMSZJpzN/image.png >
05:08 AM spikee0[m]: but the options are pretty much all empty
05:08 AM spikee0[m]: cant select any fw
05:09 AM spikee0[m]: it can connect to the board
05:09 AM spikee0[m]: and read hmid etc
05:12 AM spikee0[m]: ah you need to press download firmware
05:12 AM * spikee0[m] uploaded an image: (106KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/leEqJqXzGmvpoLfZOAQTeZKA/image.png >
05:12 AM spikee0[m]: \
05:20 AM spikee0[m]: quite confused tho as it does not seem to show the 7i96s at axes but only the 7i85
05:20 AM * spikee0[m] uploaded an image: (86KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/AAxXwnbcQXAGkbyBdgZRqxrW/image.png >
05:20 AM spikee0[m]: also this is empty
05:20 AM * spikee0[m] uploaded an image: (20KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/YMkpedZpUPfQoUXMbzJenIuY/image.png >
05:32 AM JT-Cave: spikee0[m], unfortunately mesact does not show the daughter card for a 7i96s, I'm working on mesact2 which will properly show the daughter cards
05:48 AM JT-Cave: rooster just crowed
05:56 AM spikee0[m]: I guess i use pnc conf and add the rest manually
05:56 AM spikee0[m]: Need to figure out how to do that 😂
05:57 AM spikee0[m]: I assume this 7i85 label should be 7i96s
06:52 AM JT-Cave: no it is showing the daughter card
07:02 AM travis_farmer[m4: FINALLY!!! got my email server working again! (after the server restructuring) :-)
07:13 AM Unterhaus__ is now known as Unterhausen
07:20 AM JT-Cave: fun
07:42 AM * JT-Cave starts his chicken day
08:34 AM andrewsanimbaido is now known as aabtech[m]
09:03 AM mrec: that bing chat is funny
09:03 AM mrec: https://snipboard.io/8HB5AF.jpg
09:04 AM mrec: asking directly: https://snipboard.io/Yj5ciA.jpg
09:08 AM rmu: do the numbers work
09:11 AM mrec: well they can be found with google, however things need to be activated and that might be another story
09:11 AM mrec: I only use legit preinstalled windows, aside of mac/linux
09:11 AM mrec: I just check bing for fun from time to time
11:42 AM JT-Cave: dang r22 is expensive
11:43 AM Tom_L: it all is
11:46 AM Tom_L: if the home unit ever needs a charge i'll probably have to replace it. it's got R410A in it
11:52 AM JT-Cave: service call $85 r22 $360
11:52 AM Tom_L: home unit?
11:53 AM Tom_L: R32 & R-44B are replacing 410A
11:54 AM Tom_L: 454B
11:54 AM JT-Cave: yep
11:54 AM JT-Cave: been there for over 10 years
11:54 AM Tom_L: typically R22 was in autos iirc
11:55 AM Tom_L: R12 maybe.. now it's 134A
11:55 AM Tom_L: my kid works with all sorts of them at johnson
11:56 AM Tom_L: some are flamable
11:56 AM Tom_L: R12 was pre 1995
11:57 AM JT-Cave: I have a bottle of R12 :)
11:57 AM Tom_L: $$$
11:58 AM Tom_L: if you could find someone that needed it
11:58 AM Tom_L: the ones that replaced 410A have a higher compressor pressure
12:09 PM JT-Cave: classic cars is the only thing I can think of
12:10 PM Tom_L: probably so
12:10 PM Tom_L: any of those that are still around have likely been converted anyway
12:10 PM JT-Cave: https://www.refrigerantdepot.com/product/r-12/
12:11 PM Tom_L: used to be ~$300
12:11 PM JT-Cave: I paid < $100 for it
12:11 PM JT-Cave: used it on my 81 C10 Custom Deluxe
12:13 PM Tom_L: trying to get him to go online and take the cert test. he's put in the hours
12:30 PM Tom_L: maybe you can talk the service guy into needing some R12 in trade
12:39 PM chris_99: Hi, i'm just wondering does anyone have any opinions on Boxford 190VMC machines, for a beginner, just curious as they seem among the cheapest i can find on fleabay
12:45 PM Tom_L: depends what you want to do. it looks kinda small
12:46 PM chris_99: mm, that's a good point, don't have that much room in the garage alas though
01:03 PM JT-Cave: link?
01:06 PM Unterhaus_: my spouse is paying $1200 to someone because she put a door ding in their Tesla
01:23 PM JT-Cave: replacing the whole door?
01:45 PM Scopeuk: the door handles on the Tesla's run $400 new iirc
01:46 PM travis_farmer[m4: then you have to have somebody install it without blowing up the tesla... ;-)
02:05 PM Unterhaus_: I have heard it's hard to repair a tesla. But I thought she should just turn it in to our insurance
02:52 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
03:07 PM CaptHindsight[m]: good to know about the high profit margin parts for Teslas
03:10 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I thought about making a controller for Teslas that swaps out the factory units
03:10 PM JT-Cave: pcw--home, I have a 7i92T with both W3 & W4 up for cable power and I have 7i92t_7i76x2d.bin firmware loaded but when I connect the 7i76 to P1 it does not show up in hal
03:10 PM JT-Cave: any ideas?
03:16 PM Tom_L: jt does the 76 need field power?
03:16 PM JT-Cave: for io yes
03:16 PM Tom_L: not familiar with that one
03:16 PM Tom_L: i wonder if you need that for it to show up
03:16 PM JT-Cave: it works on P2 but not P1
03:17 PM JT-Cave: I have 24vdc field power to the 7i76
03:17 PM Tom_L: hmm
03:17 PM JT-Cave: that's what I said
03:17 PM * Tom_L yields the question back to pcw--home
03:19 PM JT-Cave: and I've tried two different cables...
03:20 PM Tom_L: does the firmware have anything targeted for P1?
03:20 PM Tom_L: dunno what firmware functions are in that file
03:21 PM Tom_L: lemme look..
03:23 PM JT-Cave: 7i76 5v led and vfield led are lit
03:24 PM Tom_L: looking at the 7i92 firmware which may not be the same set
03:24 PM Tom_L: i'll grab the other one and look
03:25 PM Tom_L: is the T the new cards?
03:25 PM JT-Cave: I just flashed it again and still no 7i76 on P1
03:25 PM JT-Cave: yes
03:25 PM Tom_L: TH or TM?
03:25 PM Tom_L: does it have a DB25?
03:25 PM Tom_L: or 2 pin headers
03:26 PM JT-Cave: yes it's a 7i92TM
03:26 PM Tom_L: DB25 + pin header
03:26 PM JT-Cave: but I'm testing mesact2 with P1 to make sure the config works
03:26 PM JT-Cave: all 7i92's have one IDC26 header for P1
03:27 PM Tom_L: right, the option is the 2nd plug being pin or db25
03:31 PM Tom_L: if i have the right file, the same pinout on both plugs it appears
03:31 PM Tom_L: PIN_7i76_2Px2D_34
03:32 PM Tom_L: PIN_7i76_2Px2D_34.vhd if you want to look at it
03:32 PM Tom_L: i think it's the same...
03:34 PM Tom_L: wait.. i found another one that may be closer PIN_7I76x2D_34.vhd
03:34 PM Tom_L: but still both headers have the same functions programmed
03:35 PM Tom_L: although different than the first file
03:35 PM Tom_L: stepgens, sserial and qcount(encoder)
03:37 PM Tom_L: yeah that last file must be the one you have
03:38 PM Tom_L: and it does look the same as the original 7i92 fileset
03:43 PM Tom_L: W3 is for P1, W4 is for P2... so that should be ok
03:44 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
03:45 PM Tom_itx: The option uses 4 parallel
03:45 PM Tom_itx: cable signals that are normally used as grounds for supplying 5V to the remote breakout
03:45 PM Tom_itx: board (DB25 pins 22,23,24 and 25). These pins are AC bypassed on both the 7I92T and
03:45 PM Tom_itx: Mesa breakout cards so do not compromise AC signal integrity.
03:45 PM Tom_L: not sure what that means
03:45 PM Tom_L: but those would be your DB25 power pins
03:45 PM Tom_L: or GND depending on the switches
03:45 PM Tom_L: i think
03:46 PM Tom_itx: This option should only be
03:46 PM Tom_itx: enabled for Mesa breakout boards or boards specifically wired to accept 5V power on
03:46 PM Tom_itx: DB25 pins 22 through 25.
03:47 PM Tom_L: i assume the 7i76 supports that?
03:48 PM JT-Shop: yep the 7i76 should work on either port with 7i92t_7i76x2d.bin
03:48 PM Tom_L: so it's not the firmware or the W3-4 switches
03:49 PM Tom_L: i don't have any 26pin daughter cards here
03:50 PM Tom_L: so you switch cables when moving ports?
03:50 PM Tom_L: maybe the cable?
03:51 PM Tom_L: is the DB25 cable pins all wired?
03:51 PM Tom_L: not all of them are
03:52 PM Tom_L: the other port would be a ribbon
03:53 PM JT-Shop: I make my own cables and it's a different cable for P1 and I've tried two different cables on P1
03:53 PM Tom_L: is P1 the db25?
03:53 PM JT-Shop: the DB25 port works fine and I see the 7i76
03:53 PM JT-Shop: no
03:53 PM JT-Shop: P2 is the DB25
03:53 PM Tom_L: ok
03:53 PM Tom_L: and P2 works
03:54 PM JT-Shop: and more confusing P2 is the first sserial ports...
03:54 PM Tom_L: and you're sure you got the ribbon 1 on plug pin 1?
03:54 PM Tom_L: i've made that mistake a time or two putting the ribbon in backwards
03:55 PM JT-Shop: and I'm sure the ribbon is on pin 1 for the IDC 26 plug
03:55 PM Tom_L: ok, i'm running out of ideas here :)
03:55 PM JT-Shop: I use a magnifier when assembling cables
03:55 PM JT-Shop: as am I
03:56 PM Tom_L: see if there's power (with a meter) on those pins
03:56 PM JT-Shop: interesting that both of the plug lifter tabs broke off P1 when I used the levers to lift the plug...
03:56 PM JT-Shop: the 5v led is lit up on the 7i76
03:57 PM Tom_L: ok
03:57 PM JT-Shop: and that only means the led works lol
03:57 PM Tom_L: i dunno how he wired the 5v so i'd be enclined to check that
03:58 PM JT-Shop: I'll take a look at the card with the microscope and see if anything looks wrong
03:58 PM Tom_L: on the 7i92t you mean?
03:59 PM Tom_L: obviously the other one works
04:11 PM JT-Shop: yep other than the led's are a bit askew and there was some microscopic hair looking stuff on the card I don't see anything
04:11 PM JT-Shop: yes the 7i76 works fine on P2...
04:16 PM roguish[m]: well, got back from Kona Hawaii yesterday.

04:20 PM roguish[m]: Mai Tai at Don The Beachcombers
04:24 PM Unterhausen: how much did blondihacks pay to have "not sponsored" stickers made?
04:38 PM CloudEvil: I shall register as a trademark for my company that precise design of sticker.
04:45 PM JT-Cave: Tom_L, I know what the problem is... I'm not enabling the sserial ports my config is config="sserial_port_0=0xxxxxxx"
04:45 PM JT-Cave: so only one port is enabled...
04:46 PM * JT-Cave goes to make some chicken crack
04:48 PM * JT-Cave needs a better understanding of the config="sserial_port_0=0xxxxxxx"
04:48 PM travis_farmer[m4: the ports are flipped, upper vs lower
04:49 PM JT-Cave: I don't understand
04:51 PM travis_farmer[m4: they were on mine. on a 7i44 (i think it is), the upper jacks comes up as the lower jacks, and vice-versa
04:51 PM travis_farmer[m4: so if it is plugged into port 1, it may read as 2
04:52 PM travis_farmer[m4: 0xxxxxxx may actualy be x0xxxxxx
04:53 PM JT-Cave: AFAIK the xxxxxxxx correspond to the sserial ports so the first two are 0 and 1 etc.
04:54 PM travis_farmer[m4: it is the mode of the device on that port
04:55 PM travis_farmer[m4: if port 1 is running software mode 3 and port 2 is running mode 0, it would be 30xxxxxx
04:56 PM travis_farmer[m4: that's my understanding
04:56 PM travis_farmer[m4: works on my setup as i have it programmed
04:57 PM JT-Cave: so config="sserial_port_0=000xxxxx" will enable the 7i76 on P1 inputs, outputs, and spin
04:57 PM Tom_L: when i was testing sserial i had 2 physical ports and had the ini set to: sserial_port_0=20xxxxxx
04:57 PM Tom_L: maybe that was wrong but it worked
04:58 PM JT-Cave: the number is to change something I forget if it's an x it's disabled
04:58 PM Tom_L: right
04:58 PM Tom_L: X disabled
04:58 PM Tom_L: and there are 8
04:59 PM Tom_L: and each port as i understand it can have multiple sserial on it
04:59 PM JT-Cave: so if you have 7i77x2 then you need to enable 6 ports I think
04:59 PM JT-Cave: for P1 to work
04:59 PM Tom_L: that's how you get a bazillion io from it
04:59 PM Tom_L: JT-Cave, i'm not sure about that
05:00 PM Tom_L: if there are 2 physical ports i think you would set it for 00xxxxxx or such
05:00 PM Tom_L: if there are more, enable more ports
05:00 PM Tom_L: sserial is kindof a cloudy area
05:01 PM * travis_farmer[m4 uploaded an image: (111KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/DgNPOcSvvJBwAcQPQwUrVoDy/Screenshot%202023-07-10%20at%2018-00-08%20E%20__WPD__7i70man.wpd%20-%207i70man.pdf.png >
05:01 PM travis_farmer[m4: for a 7i70
05:01 PM Tom_L: i've had sserial on the 7i96s as well iirc
05:01 PM travis_farmer[m4: mode is what the number means
05:02 PM travis_farmer[m4: and yes, x for disabled port
05:02 PM JT-Cave: for 7i77x2 P2 is 0 and 1 and P1 is 3 and 4... dunno what happened to 2
05:04 PM JT-Cave: yes some cards have different modes
05:04 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
05:04 PM Tom_dev: http://paste.debian.net/1285538/
05:04 PM JT-Cave: right now I'm working on just enabling the correct port depending on the firmware used
05:05 PM travis_farmer[m4: maybe i am on the wrong page of the conversation (or wrong book), but that is how i have been treating the numbers, and it works... but what do i know? i gotta eat some supper
05:05 PM JT-Cave: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/stable/html/man/man9/hostmot2.9.html#Smart%20Serial%20Interface
05:06 PM Tom_L: i pasted the man
05:06 PM JT-Cave: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/stable/html/man/man9/hostmot2.9.html#config%20modparam
05:07 PM Tom_L: also, i think if you know where the ports lie it could be something like 00xxxx00
05:08 PM JT-Cave: port 0 hm2_7i92.0.7i77.0.0.input-00
05:08 PM JT-Cave: port 3 hm2_7i92.0.7i77.0.3.input-00
05:09 PM Tom_L: 0xx0xxxx
05:09 PM JT-Cave: hmm channel not port
05:09 PM Tom_L: or whatever mode you need for that port
05:09 PM JT-Cave: port sserial_port_0
05:09 PM Tom_L: i _think_ that's how it works but i could be wrong
05:09 PM JT-Cave: channels are 0120xxxx
05:10 PM Tom_L: i have never tested multiple sserial cards on one port
05:11 PM JT-Cave: <pcw-home> The sserial channels are typically just in sequence: <pcw-home> 7I76+7I76 0,1 on first 7I76, 2,3 on second <pcw-home> 7I77+7I77 0,1,2 on first 7I77 3,4,5 on second <pcw-home> 7I76+7I77, 0,1 on 7I76, 2,3,4 on 7I77
05:12 PM JT-Cave: I think that's my clue :)
05:12 PM Tom_L: makes sense
05:12 PM JT-Cave: halContents.append('sserial_port_0=0xxxxxxx"\n')
05:13 PM Tom_L: so the 77 has 3 ports enabled instead of 2 in the firmware
05:13 PM JT-Cave: I need to smarten up that line
05:13 PM JT-Cave: yes
05:13 PM JT-Cave: another mystery solved
05:13 PM Tom_L: but is it true that you can have multiple cards on the same port?
05:14 PM Tom_L: <-- untested
05:14 PM Tom_L: kinda like i2c
05:14 PM Tom_L: where an address is defined
05:18 PM JT-Cave: dunno
05:18 PM Tom_L: i don't know anyone that has done it if it is possible
05:19 PM Tom_L: iirc he told me once you can have up to 8
05:19 PM Tom_L: but it's still not that clear to me
05:21 PM Tom_L: you should also define num_sserial in the ini but it is optional
05:21 PM JT-Cave: there are 8 channels for each port and 4 ports so a maximum of 32 sserial channels
05:22 PM JT-Cave: if a card like the 7i77 uses 3 channels then you have 29 left I think
05:22 PM Tom_L: i'm not sure how you would wire that
05:22 PM Tom_L: if they're daisy chained or each card has a separate pin set
05:22 PM JT-Cave: https://mesaus.com/product/7i74/
05:25 PM Tom_L: does that have 4 or 8 RJ45 plugs?
05:25 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: 8 RJ45. I use one in my mill.
05:25 PM Tom_L: i assume that's what is under the shroud
05:25 PM Tom_L: ok
05:25 PM JT-Cave: 8
05:25 PM Tom_L: so you would wire each card on separate pins
05:25 PM Tom_L: for all the channels
05:26 PM JT-Cave: yup, not sure how it works lol
05:26 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Though due to FPGA limitations I can only get 7 of the 8 channels working with the 7i98.
05:26 PM Tom_L: it's just voo doo magic
05:27 PM Tom_L: ZincBoy[CAON][m], due to timing?
05:27 PM Tom_L: or physical cells
05:27 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Logic gate capacity IIRC
05:27 PM Tom_L: yeah
05:28 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: I have a 7i77 as well and that uses a few sserial modules as well as encoders.
05:28 PM JT-Cave: yup 7i77 uses 3 channels
05:28 PM JT-Cave: so I guess it hogs port 0?
05:29 PM Tom_L: probably
05:29 PM JT-Cave: now to figure out an elegant way to determine what channels are used on P2 if P1 is used
05:29 PM JT-Cave: and P2 is not used...
05:30 PM Tom_L: num_sserial
05:30 PM Tom_L: might help
05:30 PM Tom_L: if they select 4 then they use them all
05:30 PM Tom_L: it's not required but it might help you
05:30 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: It is a seperate sserial port. sserial_port_0 and sserial_port_1
05:31 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Port 0 is the 7i77 and Port 1 is the 7i74.
05:32 PM Tom_L: ZincBoy[CAON][m], how does that show up in readhmid?
05:33 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: No idea but I can check when I go out to the shop later today.
05:33 PM Tom_L: i'm not sure if sserial show or not
05:34 PM JT-Cave: Module: IOPort
05:34 PM JT-Cave: There are 2 of IOPort in configuration
05:34 PM JT-Cave: 7i92t 7i76 7i74 firmware
05:34 PM Tom_L: is that the same as sserial?
05:35 PM Tom_L: i think that is GPIO
05:36 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
05:36 PM JT-Cave: I read that as it has sserial_port_0 and sserial_port_1
05:37 PM Tom_dev: 43 21 IOPort PWM 0 Dir (Out)
05:37 PM Tom_dev: 45 22 IOPort SSerial 0 TXData1 (Out)
05:37 PM Tom_dev: 47 23 IOPort SSerial 0 TXData2 (Out)
05:37 PM Tom_L: sserial shows up as such
05:38 PM Tom_dev: 1 24 IOPort None
05:38 PM Tom_dev: 3 25 IOPort None
05:38 PM Tom_dev:
05:38 PM Tom_L: unassigned show as that
05:41 PM Tom_L: IOPort is the primary function and if there is no secondary function it shows as 'none'
05:41 PM Tom_L: so IOPort is GPIO
05:46 PM JT-Cave: 7 10 IOPort SSerial 0 TXData0 (Out)
05:46 PM JT-Cave: 8 11 IOPort SSerial 0 RXData0 (In)
05:46 PM JT-Cave: 9 12 IOPort SSerial 0 TXData1 (Out)
05:46 PM JT-Cave: 10 13 IOPort SSerial 0 RXData1 (In)
05:46 PM JT-Cave: P2 TXData is the channel numbers I think
05:47 PM JT-Cave: 7 27 IOPort SSerial 0 TXData2 (Out)
05:47 PM JT-Cave: 8 28 IOPort SSerial 0 RXData2 (In)
05:47 PM JT-Cave: 9 29 IOPort SSerial 0 TXData3 (Out)
05:47 PM JT-Cave: 10 30 IOPort SSerial 0 RXData3 (In)
05:47 PM JT-Cave: P1
05:47 PM JT-Cave: 7i76 x 2 firmware
05:48 PM JT-Cave: 1 0 IOPort SSerial 0 TXEn2 (Out)
05:48 PM JT-Cave: 14 1 IOPort SSerial 0 TXData2 (Out)
05:48 PM JT-Cave: 2 2 IOPort SSerial 0 RXData2 (In)
05:48 PM JT-Cave: 15 3 IOPort SSerial 0 TXData1 (Out)
05:48 PM JT-Cave: 3 4 IOPort SSerial 0 RXData1 (In)
05:48 PM JT-Cave: 16 5 IOPort SSerial 0 TXData0 (Out)
05:48 PM JT-Cave: 4 6 IOPort SSerial 0 RXData0 (In)
05:48 PM JT-Cave: 7i77 x 2
05:48 PM JT-Cave: P2
05:48 PM JT-Cave: time to lock up outside
05:51 PM Tom_L: lotsa sserial there
05:51 PM Tom_L: you have a Tx and Rx for each channel
06:02 PM Tom_L: TXData0 & RXData9 would be the first channel
06:03 PM Tom_L: TXData0 & RXData0 would be the first channel
06:03 PM Tom_L: typo
06:04 PM Tom_L: and from what i can tell there they fall on pins 5 & 6
06:04 PM Tom_L: unless that's the IO number
06:05 PM Tom_L: likely IO since those start at 0
06:55 PM Unterhausen: anyone ever used the harbor freight link belt
06:58 PM Tom_L: so the sserial board must not show up in --readhmid
07:06 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.harborfreight.com/vibration-free-link-belt-43771.html Unterhausen:
07:06 PM CaptHindsight[m]: forst I've seen it
07:10 PM Unterhausen: just found out my drill press has a belt falling apart, thought I would get one
07:14 PM CaptHindsight[m]: a balanced belt won't vibrate :)
07:15 PM CaptHindsight[m]: "Stronger and more vibration-resistant than conventional belts"
07:15 PM CaptHindsight[m]: do they mean a leather strap from the old timey days?
07:18 PM Tom_L: sserial shows up in halshow though
07:42 PM roycroft: a sensitive drill press does not operate at high enough speeds that belt/pulley vibration should ever be a problem
07:42 PM roycroft: i would not spend the money on a link belt for such a device
07:42 PM roycroft: and in my experience, the greater advantage of a link belt to vibration reduction is that it can be installed without pulling a shaft, in situations where the drive pulley is captive
07:43 PM roycroft: such as on a typical belt-driven lathe
07:43 PM * roycroft returned from the fair earlier this afternoon
07:46 PM Unterhausen: the alternative is I have to find out what the length of the belt is
07:47 PM roycroft: and with a typical drill press you don't need to get the length spot on, as it's somewhat adustable
08:03 PM CAKESLOB: personally I dont trust those link belts
08:03 PM CAKESLOB: bring it to the auto parts store, they should have one of those belt measuring tools or something, if its broken its easy to measure also
08:04 PM CAKESLOB: with the lawntractor, i usually get 3 sizes, and when the good one breaks, i just modify the stuff so the bigger/smaller one fit
08:12 PM Unterhausen: I have never seen a belt so close to being broken before. It's split in about 10 places
08:13 PM Unterhausen: it's still working, but some of the pieces hit the belt guard
08:16 PM CAKESLOB: now its a challenge to see how long it will last
09:33 PM Unterhausen: probably a little easier to find a replacement if it's in one piece.
09:49 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
10:20 PM roycroft: it may be the same length as the other belt
10:24 PM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
