01:03 AM Deejay: moin
02:46 AM travis_farmer[m4: Morning ☕️
04:47 AM solarwind: Hi all, I'm having a bit of trouble finding the right search term for what I'm looking for.
04:48 AM solarwind: What I'm looking for is a saw blade similar to the one included with this hobby saw: https://www.amazon.ca/Kamotpenty-167B-OLFA-Hobby-Saw/dp/B00124QFMA
04:48 AM solarwind: That is, it's _flat_
04:48 AM solarwind: But can be used in an air reciprocating saw
04:48 AM solarwind: All the air recip saw blades are "wavy" and create a cut width that is thicker than the saw blade itself
04:49 AM solarwind: The hobby saw is completely flat and creates a cut width that is just as thick as the blade itself, like a slitting saw
04:49 AM solarwind: I don't know what the term for that is - whether the saw blade is flat or wavy
04:51 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:34 AM Scopeuk: Some of that is going to be inherent in how aggressively a reciprocating saw moves, I guess "thin kerf" maybe although that's technically only the amount of material removed, not how it's done
05:46 AM JT-Cave: rooster just crowed
06:13 AM Tom_L: morning
06:27 AM Tom_L: so this spindle board uses a 20mA current loop to control the speed. how would you convert an 0-10v signal to work with that?
06:28 AM Tom_L: and will the analog out on the mesa boards support this?
06:36 AM JT-Cave: 4-20mA is the best analog for interference rejection
06:36 AM JT-Cave: hmm dunno how you convert 0-10v to it
06:36 AM travis_farmer[m4: https://www.myplctechnology.com/2019/01/convert-0-10-vdc-to-0-20-ma-using.html
06:37 AM JT-Cave: https://www.amazon.com/NOYITO-Voltage-Current-Module-Generator/dp/B07BDKCVHW
06:42 AM JT-Cave: I don't think a resistor will work because it doesn't convert 0-10v to 4-20mA
06:44 AM Scopeuk: You could do a resistor and not use the bottom of you 0-10v range. It would be amoderate approximation. It's not going to work for interference rejection over distance that way though as your cabling will change the resistance
06:46 AM Scopeuk: There appear to be many voltage signal to current loop signal converters avaliable on a chose your price and confidence basis
09:38 AM Tom_L: still cloudy/rainy here
09:47 AM JT-Shop: not a drop here
09:49 AM Tom_L: rain gage shows ~2 1/4" since i last checked couple days ago
10:44 AM JT-Shop: so I have this audio capture device but now I realize I need an amplifier after the turntable... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079CBGDST
10:44 AM Tom_L: yeah
10:44 AM Tom_L: high impedance
10:45 AM travis_farmer[m4: tube amp :-)
10:45 AM JT-Shop: I have a huge one but don't want to dig it out and disconnect it from the rest of the system
10:46 AM Tom_L: that thing is probably low impedance
10:47 AM travis_farmer[m4: https://www.ebay.com/itm/256123874697
10:47 AM JT-Shop: https://www.amazon.com/ATNEDCVH-preamplifier-Headphone-amplifier-phonograph/dp/B0945RFJ6Z
10:48 AM travis_farmer[m4: ugg, solid-state am, for phono?
10:48 AM travis_farmer[m4: *amp
10:48 AM JT-Shop: travis_farmer[m4, fancy
10:49 AM travis_farmer[m4: ;-)
10:49 AM JT-Shop: record player to audio input device to pc to rip some albums
10:50 AM JT-Shop: wow the tube thingy is $63 on amazon
10:51 AM travis_farmer[m4: solid-state is fine for running to an ADC, i was just picking on you ;-)
10:53 AM travis_farmer[m4: now if you had a high-end audio interface with a high bit-rate, i would go with the tube amp.
10:54 AM JT-Shop: I doubt my ears can tell the difference
10:55 AM travis_farmer[m4: maybe not... ;-)
10:55 AM Tom_L: as long as it picks up the record pop you're good
10:56 AM travis_farmer[m4: most new tube amps now have solid-state circuits hidden inside anyway.
10:57 AM JT-Shop: looks like the cheap ones are just crap anyway
10:57 AM travis_farmer[m4: yup
10:58 AM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Technically all tube amps are crap. They just have pleasing distortion harmonics. A quality solid state amp will have orders of magnitude better specs in every way.
10:59 AM JT-Shop: got a link to one?
10:59 AM travis_farmer[m4: well somebody just had to get technical... ;-)
11:00 AM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Technically correct. The best type of correct 🙂
11:01 AM travis_farmer[m4: all my audio gear is solid-state. even my drum kit is (MIDI drum kit)
11:03 AM travis_farmer[m4: Hmmm, lunch time...
11:05 AM Tom_L: https://www.gearpatrol.com/tech/audio/a713052/best-phono-preamps/
11:18 AM JT-Shop: I guess I need to figure out if I have a MM or MC turntable
11:22 AM dyntaos: Is LinuxCNC capable of running properly with only 1 Joint?
11:27 AM Tom_L: dyntaos, i don't see why not
11:27 AM JT-Shop: yes and my configuration tool allows you to create a single axis configuration but the others don't
11:28 AM dyntaos: I didn't either but as soon as I modify my INI/HAL files from a 3 axis to 1, I get those shared memory errors that I asked about yesterday
11:29 AM Tom_L: build a config with jt's mesact and test it
11:29 AM dyntaos: JT-Shop Are you saying you have a downstream fork that allows for a single joint when the upsteam does not allow it?
11:29 AM JT-Shop: no
11:30 AM dyntaos: Where can I find your repo with this?
11:30 AM JT-Shop: it's for Mesa cards https://github.com/jethornton/mesact
11:31 AM JT-Shop: that's the old one, I'm reworking it for better interface but new is currently not complete
11:32 AM dyntaos: ty
11:32 AM dyntaos: thats perfect, im using a 7i76e
11:33 AM JT-Shop: should work great for the 7i76e
11:47 AM * JT-Shop wanders inside to take a nap
03:22 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
03:22 PM Unterhausen: I always wanted to build a spring bending machine. I guess that's more than one axis though
03:22 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Unterhausen: 2 axis?
03:22 PM CaptHindsight[m]: feed and rotate
03:24 PM Unterhausen: well, I just used my brace drill to disassembly a piano tuning key, maybe something like that?
03:25 PM Unterhausen: I just searched for "saw blade for xacto knife" and google finally served me up a result on the 13th link
03:26 PM Unterhausen: all the others were for the xacto razor saw
03:27 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Unterhausen: what size is the smallest wire that you need to bend?
03:27 PM Unterhausen: 1/16" maybe?
03:29 PM CaptHindsight[m]: let me check
03:29 PM Unterhausen: McMaster carr has something they call "precision knife blades" which look like what solarwind was looking for
03:29 PM CaptHindsight[m]: another project needed something similar to these https://img.directindustry.com/images_di/photo-g/7273-2523119.webp
03:30 PM Unterhausen: looks expensive
03:30 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Firestone pneumatic gripper, the Chinese could not wrap their heads around the concept of a rubber chuck that grips by contracting, they kept on sending me prints for a balloon that expanded outward
03:31 PM CaptHindsight[m]: not good for wire, I was gripping glass
03:33 PM CaptHindsight[m]: for wire https://www.aliexpress.com/i/2251832773803234.html?gatewayAdapt=4itemAdapt similar to these
03:33 PM Lcvette[m]: if i need to change the servothread due to errors, do i go up or down?
03:34 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Unterhausen: https://www.pml-pal.com/mini-grippers-air-chuck
03:34 PM Lcvette[m]: 1000000 currently
03:34 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Unterhausen: you just need the type that feed air from the rear and can rotate 360
03:35 PM CaptHindsight[m]: with a through hole
03:35 PM Unterhausen: I'm trying to remember why I need a chuck :)
03:35 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Lcvette: do you want a shorter on longer servo thread period?
03:36 PM Lcvette[m]: what will stop the error message from popping up
03:36 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Lcvette: which errors?
03:36 PM Lcvette[m]: real time delay
03:36 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Lcvette: ok then go shorter
03:37 PM CaptHindsight[m]: lower the number, it's in nS I believe
03:44 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Unterhausen: https://www.designworldonline.com/introducing-the-desktop-wire-bender/ another approach
03:46 PM Unterhausen: Cap'n, that's how the 3d printed ones work. If you want a coiled spring, you need something to push it up from the plate
03:49 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://youtu.be/2YuvchXD2kc
03:51 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQIYZ-iKuG4
03:54 PM Unterhausen: union spring is what got me started thinking about building one
03:56 PM Unterhausen: This machine might be what I want https://youtu.be/dS2JgOEn36g
03:58 PM CaptHindsight[m]: that's an easy one to make
04:03 PM Unterhausen: amazon just sent me an email promoting one of those scam electricity saving boxes
04:04 PM CaptHindsight[m]: AC battery
04:04 PM Unterhausen: no, an unsafe way of powering an led
04:04 PM Unterhausen: clive has at least one video taking them apart
04:08 PM Unterhausen: I think their main market is people that want to make youtubes about them
04:13 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://medium.com/@simone.b/how-to-communicate-with-a-siemens-plc-using-python-3c9c6789d543
04:16 PM Unterhausen: some of the union spring linear stages are driven by levers. Don't know if that's the "camless" machines or not
04:24 PM CAKESLOB: https://www.instructables.com/DIWire-Bender/
04:24 PM CAKESLOB: Unterhausen i saw this one at 2012 world makersfair in nyc
04:24 PM CAKESLOB: looks like the pensa is the offical one now
04:25 PM CAKESLOB: er 2013
04:26 PM CaptHindsight[m]: a bit on the hacky side
04:27 PM CaptHindsight[m]: yeah it will bend wire for a while
04:29 PM Tom_L: looks a bit cheesy for that purpose
04:29 PM IlyaKw: Hi all
04:29 PM IlyaKw: Anybody having Mesa ethernet card can help ?
04:29 PM IlyaKw: I would like to get output from this command
04:29 PM IlyaKw: ./mesaflash --device ether --addr 10.10.10.10 --verbose
04:30 PM Tom_L: IlyaKw, you know you can install mesaflash as a package right?
04:30 PM Tom_L: what linux version?
04:30 PM IlyaKw: +Tom_L I have got it
04:30 PM CaptHindsight[m]: CAKESLOB: any idea what the price is for either model?
04:30 PM IlyaKw: +Tom_L Debian 9
04:32 PM CAKESLOB: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1638882643/diwire-the-first-desktop-wire-bender/description
04:32 PM CAKESLOB: the offical one was like $2500
04:33 PM Tom_L: IlyaKw, how did you install it?
04:33 PM Tom_L: go to the source directory and sudo make install
04:33 PM Tom_L: then you can run it from a terminal
04:34 PM CAKESLOB: https://hackaday.io/project/166369-precise-wire-bending-machine
04:34 PM CAKESLOB: this was the other one i remember seeing before
04:34 PM Tom_L: later debian versions have it as a package install
04:34 PM Tom_L: starting maybe with debian 11?
04:34 PM IlyaKw: +Tom_L Compiled from source. I asked for the output only. I am playing around with "LEd board" that has reworked firmware for FPGA
04:35 PM Tom_L: for what board?
04:35 PM IlyaKw: +Tom_L> :) It works on VM
04:35 PM IlyaKw: <+Tom_L Linsn RV901t
04:35 PM Tom_L: mmm
04:36 PM Tom_L: can't help with that. it's not a mesa card is it?
04:36 PM IlyaKw: +Tom_L https://forum.linuxcnc.org/27-driver-boards/47730-new-project-litehm2-a-hostmot2-port-to-linsn-rv901t?start=0
04:36 PM IlyaKw: +Tom_L Do you have any Mesa card with Ethernet ?
04:36 PM Tom_L: several
04:37 PM CAKESLOB: https://www.pensalabs.com/diwire-pro heres where yo buy it
04:37 PM IlyaKw: +Tom_L Could you just enter command in console ? Of course with your card address
04:38 PM Tom_L: i have the original mesaflash, not that ported one
04:38 PM IlyaKw: +Tom_L> nice
04:38 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:39 PM Tom_L: i have ver 3.4.6
04:39 PM Tom_L: instead of --device ether use --device 7i96s or such for the board name
04:40 PM IlyaKw: +Tom_L It does not matter. I need the result of this command
04:42 PM Tom_L: one sec
04:43 PM Tom_dev: http://paste.debian.net/1285353/
04:43 PM Tom_L: surprised that actually worked :)
04:44 PM IlyaKw: +Tom_L Ok. Thank you very much. It is very helpful
04:44 PM Tom_L: np
04:44 PM IlyaKw: +Tom_L :)
04:52 PM Tom_L: IlyaKw, i misunderstood what you were doing at first :)
04:56 PM IlyaKw: Tom_L :)
04:57 PM IlyaKw: Tom_L You said you have several. And by chance, there is no FPGA Spartan6 based?
04:57 PM Tom_L: yes
04:58 PM Tom_L: one sec
04:58 PM IlyaKw: Tom_L Could you make a command output from such a card?
04:58 PM IlyaKw: Tom_L ok
04:59 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:59 PM Tom_dev: https://paste.debian.net/1285356/
04:59 PM Tom_dev: 7i92
05:00 PM IlyaKw: Tom_dev Thank you :)
05:00 PM IlyaKw: Tom_dev Yes. I see
05:01 PM Tom_dev: https://paste.debian.net/1285357/
05:01 PM Tom_dev: 7i80
05:02 PM IlyaKw: Tom_dev Thanks!
08:04 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://openplcproject.gitlab.io/ I wish there was overlap from this to LCNC :(
08:04 PM XXCoder: "look at video to see what it does"
08:05 PM XXCoder: unavailble video
08:08 PM CaptHindsight[m]: XXCoder: https://openplcproject.gitlab.io/start/
08:09 PM XXCoder: already read it, just found that video being broken is funny
08:09 PM CaptHindsight[m]: but you can just go the other way and make a Gentoo installer for LCNC that opens up right into LCNC and Classic Ladder
