12:04 AM fdarling: ZincBoy[CAON][m]: I would like to talk with you further about measurement lasers and such. I can't afford one of those yet, so I am trying to learn more basic optical tooling, and maybe a quadrant cell position measuring device w/ a laser pointer like that YouTube video did with the webcam
01:12 AM Deejay: moin
01:26 AM randy: morning
02:47 AM travis_farmer[m4: Morning ☕️
02:50 AM TurBoss: good morning
04:40 AM Tom_L: morning
04:41 AM Tom_L: 71°F & T-storms again
04:43 AM travis_farmer[m4: 65F, high of 91F @ 99%rh, partly cloudy
04:47 AM JT-Cave1: morning
04:54 AM Tom_L: better to go with R8 or R8 to ER32 adapter with collets?
04:54 AM Tom_L: has an R8 spindle
04:57 AM travis_farmer[m4: i would prefer a ER with collets, but then, i have only run a metal mill once ;-)
05:45 AM JT-Cave1: rooster just crowed
05:46 AM travis_farmer[m4: my internet crapped out, with my cable TV service... i know the bill was paid... now i am stuck on my phone hotspot...
05:51 AM JT-Cave1: been there done that till my unlimited data ran out
05:54 AM travis_farmer[m4: yeah, i will see how long mine lasts. it seems a little slow, though
08:15 AM travis_farmer[m4: Internet is back :-) didn't want to say earlier, as i didn't want to jinx it ;-)
08:45 AM pere: did not even notice it was gone. But I think I know what happened... <URL: https://invidious.tiekoetter.com/watch?v=Vywf48Dhyns > :)
09:03 AM travis_farmer[m4: stepped out just to get the mail... boy is it ever hot and muggy out! i don't know what the temp is i my shop, but i bet it is TOO HOT! and here i have some 1/16" aluminum plate for making mounts for limit sensors... but i just can't do it. i don't just sweat in that much heat, i melt! ;-)
09:06 AM travis_farmer[m4: i worry about my father in this heat... he has some really swollen ankles, that could be from congestive heart failure. both his parents died from it, and he wont get a doctor appointment to have it checked... stubborn. i can't imagine the heat is helping him either.
09:09 AM Lcvette[m]: is he on blood pressure medicine?
09:09 AM travis_farmer[m4: i think so
09:10 AM Lcvette[m]: find out if it has a diuretic component to it, may need to adjust it
09:11 AM travis_farmer[m4: it is not a diuretic (mom said)
09:11 AM Lcvette[m]: Hydrochlorothiazide is used to treat edema (fluid retention; excess fluid held in body tissues) caused by various medical problems, including heart, kidney, and liver disease
09:12 AM Lcvette[m]: i take a mild BP med and mine has the diuretic component, it helps with that symptom
09:12 AM Lcvette[m]: but get him to the doctor, thats an issue easily remedied
09:13 AM roycroft: i went to bed early last night, but still overslept this morning
09:13 AM travis_farmer[m4: hmm, he is on that...
09:13 AM roycroft: the heat really took a lot out of me yesterday
09:13 AM travis_farmer[m4: yeah, i will ush him to get to a doc
09:13 AM Lcvette[m]: may need an adjustment
09:14 AM Lcvette[m]: if he doesn't and continues to have swelling it can begin causing kidney damage. My uncle is on lifelong dialysis from being stubborn and not going to the doctor
09:15 AM Lcvette[m]: so tell him a quick and easy visit now or an intrusive visit every week for the rest of his life
09:16 AM travis_farmer[m4: yup, i will tell him (as soon as he gets home from work)
09:18 AM Lcvette[m]: ANALOG INPUTS... (full message at <https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/libera.chat/e8bdd2a56b181374ec08aba1e02cf03092b88b59>)
09:19 AM Lcvette[m]: from the mesa 7i76e manual, i was wanting to monitor air pressure using a 0-5v analog transducer
09:20 AM Lcvette[m]: but my field power is 24v, is it ok does anyone know to use a 5v instead of the field for the 4 analog inputs on TB6 0-3 ?
09:21 AM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: No. It is always a 36.3V full scale regardless of the field voltage. A 0-5V sensor will end up with 35 steps in the ADC output.
09:21 AM travis_farmer[m4: i use 0-5v air psi sensors, and it works fine. though it is jumpy (very stepped) at 0-5v
09:22 AM Lcvette[m]: ok
09:22 AM Lcvette[m]: so try and find a 24v sensor
09:27 AM Lcvette[m]: travis_farmer: how jumpy?
09:27 AM Lcvette[m]: as in what is the resolution?
09:27 AM Lcvette[m]: im looking to create a safety window for atc functionality based on the available pressure
09:28 AM travis_farmer[m4: the analog inputs i am using are 8-bit, but i am working on 16-bit upgrade. so it is jumpy, like 1/3 of a volt steps, or so
09:30 AM Lcvette[m]: and you are using 0-3 in software mode 2?
09:30 AM travis_farmer[m4: it is on a 7i70, mode 1
09:33 AM travis_farmer[m4: i will be trying this: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/24-hal-components/29294-ads1115-hal-modul-i2c-communication when i can get out there without boiling
09:33 AM Lcvette[m]: MODE 1 I/O plus analog input mode (32 bits of input data, 16 bits of output data, 4... (full message at <https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/libera.chat/853457968133536b13098444cf4a027a8cdaa564>)
09:34 AM Lcvette[m]: does this mean that in software mode 1 and 2 the analog inputs are bumped to 32 bits?
09:35 AM travis_farmer[m4: i think that is 32 bits of I/O, and X number of bits for analog
09:35 AM Lcvette[m]: ok
09:35 AM Lcvette[m]: i always find the mesa manual to be a bit cryptic
09:36 AM Lcvette[m]: confuses me
09:36 AM Lcvette[m]: not hard to do..lol
09:39 AM travis_farmer[m4: manual says 8-bit for 7i76e analog input
09:41 AM travis_farmer[m4: so that is about 0.1417V per step
09:41 AM travis_farmer[m4: (36.3 / 256)
09:42 AM Lcvette[m]: 👍️
09:43 AM Lcvette[m]: so helpful to find a sensor with a narrowly defined pressure range
09:43 AM travis_farmer[m4: that is why i am going to try the ADS1115 idea, as it is a 5V ADC @ 16-bit
09:55 AM Lcvette[m]: maybe easier to use a pressure switch
09:55 AM Lcvette[m]: lol
09:55 AM travis_farmer[m4: lol
10:54 AM Lcvette[m]: looks like an 80psi to 150psi range with a 0-10v sweep would give 1 step per psi which would be pretty good
10:54 AM Lcvette[m]: plenty granual for my needs
10:54 AM Lcvette[m]: and a nice whole number
10:58 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
12:53 PM JT[m]: Lcvette did you look on Automation Direct?
12:53 PM Lcvette[m]: JT: yeah
12:53 PM JT[m]: Ok
12:54 PM Lcvette[m]: thats one of the first places i look for anything
12:54 PM Lcvette[m]: 😄
12:54 PM Lcvette[m]: love that place
01:00 PM JT[m]: What are you trying to do?
01:00 PM JT[m]: JT waiting for his burger
01:00 PM Lcvette[m]: for the atc offering i am getting ready to release i wanted to have a safe window for system air pressure
01:01 PM JT[m]: Ok
01:01 PM Lcvette[m]: i could use a simple switch, but thought it would be nice to add a readout to the interface
01:01 PM JT[m]: Yes that would look cool
01:03 PM JT[m]: I've used some in the past, I think they were SMC
01:04 PM Lcvette[m]: I put some feelers out to see what it would cost to have 50 built with the 80-150psi and 0-10v analog sweep
01:05 PM Lcvette[m]: if its not too bad i may have some others made in different ranges, would be good for tail stock pressure, collet clamping pressure etc
01:05 PM Lcvette[m]: even mist coolant pressure
01:50 PM Gamad[m] is now known as gamadsi0[m]
02:15 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
02:34 PM Unterhausen: there was a kernel bug found, I wonder if the rt patch got updated?
03:39 PM Tom_L: found in what version?
04:06 PM Tom_L: last patch was June 26
