01:11 AM Deejay: moin
02:01 AM alex_jon1 is now known as alex_joni
03:17 AM TurBoss: good morning
04:19 AM travis_farmer[m4: just saying, Major Depressive Disorder sucks, and all this rain is NOT helping me any...
04:24 AM Tom_L: morning
04:25 AM XXCoder: send rain here
04:25 AM XXCoder: we desperately need rain here
04:26 AM travis_farmer[m4: here, XX, a case of genuine Maine rain (in a jug) ;-) https://www.amazon.com/Poland-Spring-Case-Bundles-Gallon/dp/B09ZGT6RXS/
04:37 AM XXCoder: lol
05:25 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:32 AM JT-Cave: ac froze up again...
05:44 AM JT-Cave: rooster just crowed
05:49 AM JT-Cave: and it's raining in here
07:37 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, maybe it wasn't thawed all the way
07:38 AM JT-Cave: I ran the fan a bit this morning and it didn't take long to start flowing air like it should so yeah maybe not clean of ice
07:39 AM Tom_L: does the copper going into the outside unit have any ice on it?
07:39 AM JT-Cave: I've not looked
07:39 AM Tom_L: mine did
07:40 AM Tom_L: i removed an access pannel for the A coil and used a torch under it for a while
07:41 AM JT-Cave: I need to replace the insulation on the suction line, the installers did a real crappy job
07:42 AM Tom_L: i've got about a 2-3" exposed spot where it goes into the ouside that froze
07:43 AM Tom_L: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1280891.jpg
07:43 AM Tom_L: bud in canada picked that up for $500
07:44 AM Tom_L: previously had mach2 so it's kinda old
07:44 AM Tom_L: trying to talk him in to linuxcnc
07:45 AM Tom_L: R8 collets
07:45 AM JT-Cave: looks pretty beefy
07:50 AM Tom_L: yeah, i dunno what it is
07:51 AM Scopeuk: google seams to reacon probably a prolight 1000
07:52 AM Scopeuk: https://hackaday.io/project/164332-prolight-1000-cnc-mill-retrofit/
07:52 AM Tom_L: got http://www.xylotex.com/XS3525V202.pdf
07:52 AM Tom_L: those drivers
07:53 AM * JT-Cave starts his chicken day
08:37 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, no IO yet?
08:41 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/JT-SHOP/mesact2/mesact2_error1.png
08:49 AM Tom_L: i see you've been working on other stuff
08:50 AM JT-Cave: Tom_L, no, still working out the details of the sserial ports which can change based on the firmware
08:50 AM JT-Cave: getting closer...
08:58 AM Tom_L: just did an update and thought i'd check
08:58 AM Tom_L: :)
09:01 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, you ship to canada?
09:02 AM JT-Cave: yup
09:03 AM Tom_L: you happen to know roughly what shipping there is? (7i96s)
09:03 AM Tom_L: i haven't shipped anything for some time now and i know it's gone up
09:04 AM Tom_L: gibson area
09:05 AM JT-Cave: no clue, but I offer first class so pretty cost effective
09:05 AM Tom_L: ok
09:05 AM Tom_L: still trying to convince him
09:06 AM Tom_L: that one has the analog spindle right?
09:06 AM Tom_L: 10v swing
09:08 AM JT-Cave: The 7I96S provides one analog output for spindle control. The analog output is a
09:08 AM JT-Cave: isolated potentiometer replacement type device. It functions like a potentiometer with
09:08 AM JT-Cave: SPINDLE+ being one end of the potentiometer, SPINDLE OUT being the wiper and
09:08 AM JT-Cave: SPINDLE- being the other end. The voltage on SPINDLE OUT can be set to any voltage
09:08 AM JT-Cave: between SPINDLE- and SPINDLE+. Polarity and voltage range must always be observed
09:08 AM JT-Cave: for proper operation. The voltage supplied between SPINDLE+ and SPINDLE- must be
09:08 AM JT-Cave: between 5VDC an 18VDC with SPINDLE + always being more positive than SPINDLE-.
09:08 AM JT-Cave: so yeah
09:08 AM Tom_L: right, i've got one on another card
09:08 AM Tom_L: just making sure
09:09 AM Tom_L: without actually looking :)
09:09 AM JT-Cave: I think most cards that have spindle are like that
09:09 AM * JT-Cave heads to town to ship some Mesa cards
09:09 AM Tom_L: a couple older ones have -10 to +10
09:10 AM Tom_L: C8 delivery at your service
09:16 AM JT-Cave: super fast delivery!
09:17 AM JT-Cave: I ended up making a dictionary of the daughter cards so I could show/hide the correct stepgen, analog and encoder tabs and that part is working
09:17 AM JT-Cave: just need to code the syntax for board pin names...
09:17 AM Tom_L: i noticed you'd been working on that part of it
09:23 AM Unterhausen: JT what version of debian are you testing on? I get lots of warnings. Haven't had time to figure out what's going on
09:33 AM roycroft: https://roycroft.us/CounterTop/CountertopInstalled.jpeg
09:34 AM roycroft: they wanted to put a tapestry over the whole counter, but i convinced them to just cover the underside
09:34 AM Tom_L: hide all your hard work
09:35 AM roycroft: yeah
09:35 AM roycroft: and i knew they would want to cover it
09:35 AM Tom_L: a hunk of plywood would have done for that
09:35 AM roycroft: yes
09:36 AM roycroft: those slabs are from a tree that was growing just in front of the booth founder's house
09:36 AM roycroft: and that's how i convinced them to set it up with the top showing
09:36 AM Tom_L: hah
09:37 AM roycroft: i'd have been fine if they had covered it though
09:37 AM roycroft: although if i knew for sure they were going to do that, i'd have made the countertop deeper
09:37 AM roycroft: it's about 14" deep at the narrowest part, and 20" would be a lot better for the products they want to display on it
09:38 AM roycroft: anyway, that's done
09:38 AM roycroft: i was going to make a couple lamps to display at the booth (i'm not juried in, so i can't sell them this year), and now i might have time to make them
09:39 AM roycroft: wednesday is pack-in day, and all i have to do is wash my van and get my camping gear together between now and then, so i can work in the shop on the two hottest days of the year so far
09:40 AM Tom_L: character building days
09:40 AM roycroft: oh, i have to do laundry as well, but that won't take long
09:40 AM roycroft: i have a workflow for getting solidworks drawings on my shaper origin now
09:41 AM roycroft: so for these lamps i'll see if i can do the joinery with the origin, which is my primary purpose for buying it
09:53 AM pere: Perhaps someone here might be interested in <URL: https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/issues/9866 > about freecad generating g-code removing tool height compensation on the first move.
10:05 AM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: The problem is less the G49 in the preamble and more that there is a move before the tool is loaded and offsets are applied. The post I use has G49 in the preamble but it loads the tool before any moves.
10:06 AM Tom_L: as it should
10:09 AM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Also, there are no truly generic posts. A "linuxcnc" post is only a starting point and you will need to modify it to match your machine as soon as you get away from a trivial config. Always run new code with rapid and feed overrides set so you can hit the big red button before something bad happens.
10:10 AM rmu: freecad has the abstractions of the machine tool paths somewhat wrong. IIRC it would be very cumbersome to use Tx to prepare the next tool
10:12 AM rmu: would be better to have some more abstract "operations", WCS and tool being a property of that operation, and let the post processor figure out what to do and in what order
10:12 AM pere: ZincBoy[CAON][m]: "everyone need to write their own" is not really an argument for the default being bad.
10:12 AM Tom_L: i don't even use G49 in mine
10:13 AM pere: the generated code worked better without the G49 in it, and I fail to understand why it is in the generated g-code in the first place.
10:14 AM pere: ZincBoy[CAON][m]: perhaps parts of your post script should be sent as patches to the freecad project, to improve life for everyone?
10:17 AM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: It is correct to have G49 in the preamble as you want the machine returned to a consistent initial state before the code runs. If G53 moves were used then there would not be an issue. The problem with the default processor is that there is a WCS move before the tool is loaded. The fix would be to move the TnM6HnG43 code before any moves.
10:18 AM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: I don't use freecad as I value my time 🙂 I use bobcad and wrote my own post so I was just stating how I did it. There are many ways to approach this as it really depends on how your machine works.
10:20 AM Tom_L: i typically use G53
10:23 AM rmu: you can't do G53 moves from FreeCAD "Path" > "Supplemental Commands" > "User Defined", it will eat the G53
10:32 AM JT-Cave: I wonder why the desktop disappeared on the shop debian pc?
10:32 AM JT-Cave: I wonder if I can just do sudo apt install mate-desktop?
10:35 AM JT-Cave: Unterhausen, debian 12 if your testing mesact2 you will need to install some libraries or install the deb with gdebi to get the libraries installed
10:39 AM JT-Cave: Unterhausen, I just updated the readme file
10:40 AM Unterhausen: so far all the actual errors I have gotten have been because you built in the path to your machine. If I changed my name ...
10:40 AM JT-Cave: paste bin the error
10:53 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
10:53 AM JT-Shop: wow got my desktop back with sudo apt install task-mate-desktop
10:57 AM Unterhausen: I used to lose my desktop a lot on ubuntu. One reason I gave up on it
10:58 AM JT-Shop: this happened during a storm that cycled the power a few times
10:59 AM rmu: pere: use FreeCAD -c -t TestPathApp to run unit tests
11:00 AM pere: rmu: thanks.
11:05 AM * JT-Shop sees a nap happening
11:08 AM roycroft: well i guess i'm wrong about having my workflow for the origin
11:09 AM roycroft: i'm getting an open path error on the origin from the svg i imported
11:41 AM JT-Cave: lunch minute is up time for that nap
11:42 AM * travis_farmer[m4 had sweet and sour kielbasa for lunch :-) it was perfect :-)
12:25 PM Tom_L: roycroft, can you change the export resolution?
12:26 PM Tom_L: one of the more frustrating export situations is when surfaces or lines don't quite connect
12:26 PM Tom_L: there's always somebody there to bitch about it
12:29 PM Tom_L: may not even be visible unless you really zoom in on it
01:21 PM JT-Shop: that used to be a pia with plasma drawings from customers
01:31 PM skunkworks[m]: had that problem all the time when we would get die lines from the artists.. lol..
03:22 PM Tom_L: wow, everybody including uncle bob was at the store today
03:24 PM roycroft: bob's your uncle?
03:25 PM roycroft: traffic has picked up here
03:25 PM roycroft: folks are starting to arrive in eugene for the fair
04:39 PM CAKESLOB: can you run multi axis off of the same ethernet mcu?
04:39 PM CAKESLOB: ethercat*
04:40 PM CAKESLOB: like 1 ethercat connection, but the MCU is connected to 3 motor drivers
04:43 PM CaptHindsight[m]: ethercat uses daisy chain and yes
04:43 PM CaptHindsight[m]: CAKESLOB: ^^
04:44 PM CAKESLOB: what i mean is
04:44 PM CAKESLOB: i guess 1 slave contrioller for 3 motor drivers
04:44 PM CAKESLOB: so I dont need 3 ethercat slaves
04:46 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: I have seen ethercat slaves that have multiple motor controllers. Only with two channels though. This would be non-standard and probably worse to deal with than just having 3 slaves.
04:49 PM CAKESLOB: yeah im looking at some but it doesnt seem like there are that many
04:49 PM CAKESLOB: somrhing like this

05:12 PM pere: IlyaKw: hi. are you the one working on translations recently. great to see progress. :)
05:18 PM JT-Shop: LOL I just got an invoice for a company I used to have back in 2000-2002... I think they made a mistake
05:18 PM XXCoder: jt or people trying to rip off companies
05:18 PM XXCoder: i remember that guy who sent google invoices and was paid. he was caight and in jail now
05:20 PM JT-Woodshop: I really think they picked the wrong company when someone ordered something but I'll find out... I know the owner.
05:21 PM XXCoder: fun
05:21 PM JT-Woodshop: roycroft, is the zinsser spray shellac supposed to have a marble in it?
05:22 PM XXCoder: roy you still planning to go north?
05:22 PM JT-Woodshop: yup they just need to delete the company...
05:58 PM roycroft: no, jt-woodshop
05:58 PM roycroft: xxcoder: not for my camping trip
05:58 PM roycroft: but maybe some time by this fall
05:59 PM XXCoder: no problem
06:00 PM CAKESLOB: you guys are in BC?
06:00 PM roycroft: if you're asking because of that printer, i'll say that if, when i next head up towards your part of the world, you still have it i'd still be interested, but i have no idea when that will be, so please don't hold it for me if there is another home for it
06:00 PM roycroft: i am in oregon
06:00 PM roycroft: but i used to live in bellingham, so almost bc
06:00 PM XXCoder: me, wa state
06:01 PM roycroft: on the weekends there are more canadians than us citizens in bellingham
06:01 PM * roycroft just got back from the car wash
06:01 PM XXCoder: roy yeah though im not listing it either. too lazy, need to list some stuff like cricut and couple thousand dollar worth of lego stuff
06:01 PM roycroft: i found out today that my van is white :)
06:01 PM roycroft: i always thought it was a muddy moss color
06:01 PM XXCoder: lol
06:02 PM XXCoder: I thought my car was gray-black but its actually black. ;) did annual car wash last week
06:02 PM roycroft: i actually discover that it is white every year right before fair
06:02 PM roycroft: but then i forget as it turns back to its normal color
06:02 PM XXCoder: its to protect paint from coming ashes, and it washes dust and ashes off car when rain comes in fall
06:03 PM roycroft: i clean the van as a courtesy
06:03 PM XXCoder: its funny. $18 cheap wash, or $25 max protect and clean. latter lasts a whole year and former maybe a month or 2
06:03 PM roycroft: the place where i park it to unpack/pack our stuff at the fair is a very narrow path that is very crowded with pedestrians
06:03 PM XXCoder: so I go all way
06:04 PM roycroft: hundreds of people rub against it while it's parked there
06:04 PM XXCoder: bah why not use people to clean van? ;)
06:04 PM roycroft: i went to the self-serve car wash
06:04 PM XXCoder: same
06:04 PM roycroft: and they've added a credit card reader since last year - that's nice
06:04 PM roycroft: usually i pump $10 worth of quarters into the machine and hope it's the right amount
06:05 PM roycroft: now i swipe the card, set it for 15 minutes, and when i'm finished with the wash i press a button and it credits me for the remaining time
06:05 PM XXCoder: oh you mean one where you clean vehicle yourself
06:05 PM roycroft: yes
06:05 PM XXCoder: I use one where I just drive though
06:05 PM roycroft: there's a spray wand on a hose and a brush on a hose
06:05 PM roycroft: well it's bloody hot today
06:05 PM roycroft: and the rinse water is cold
06:05 PM XXCoder: costs more but I dont care to constantly assult my eyes as I move around and clean stuff
06:05 PM roycroft: so it was nice doing it myself
06:06 PM roycroft: i kind of let it spray on me after i rinsed the soap and grime off
06:07 PM roycroft: back to something remotely topical, i'm still having workflow issues getting files from my cad workstation to the origin
06:07 PM roycroft: some of them work, but most of them don't
06:07 PM roycroft: i finally gave in and installed a personal version of fusion 360 on my imac
06:07 PM roycroft: reading their license, it's a 3 year license, and i'm allowed to use it commercially as long as it is home-based manufacturing
06:07 PM roycroft: if i get a commercial shop i'll have to use the paid license
06:08 PM roycroft: but the thing is, there is an official shaper extension for fusion 360
06:08 PM roycroft: so allegedly, i can create a model, and click the 'export to shaper origin' button, and i'll get something i can use
06:09 PM roycroft: it only allows me to store 10 editable files at a time, but i think i can download things and store them locally
06:09 PM roycroft: i probably have to push them to "the cloud" to edit them
06:09 PM roycroft: anyway, it's an option
06:09 PM roycroft: not the one i want, but if i can't get something else going for a while, it gets me started on the jobs i need to do
07:03 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
07:06 PM Tom_L: have you tested their file formatting for it?
07:39 PM roycroft: not yet
07:39 PM roycroft: i have to relearn how to use fusion 360 first
07:39 PM roycroft: i'm going to try to model a couple simple parts tonight and see how the shaper likes them
07:39 PM XXCoder: wonder if comparing ones that works and ones that didnt gcode see if theres inclusion of gcode in ones that doesnt work that orgin dont support
07:40 PM roycroft: there's no gcode involved here
07:40 PM roycroft: the shaper origin gets fed svg files
07:40 PM XXCoder: ahh interesting
07:40 PM roycroft: like lasers and vinyl cutters
07:40 PM XXCoder: wonder if its svg features rather than gcode
07:40 PM XXCoder: ie one has something that orgin dont know
07:41 PM XXCoder: i rememebr laserweb not liking stuff thats not converted to paths
07:41 PM roycroft: i get "open path" errors whenever it doesn't work
07:41 PM roycroft: even when i know the paths are closed in the original model
07:41 PM XXCoder: sounds like some node isnt connected to other if visually fine
07:41 PM roycroft: in fact, in solidworks i cannot extrude a sketch if it's not closed
07:42 PM roycroft: it's in the svg conversion
07:42 PM XXCoder: well or orgin thought it wasnt
07:42 PM roycroft: the problem is that neither solidworks nor autocad export to svg
07:42 PM roycroft: so in solidworks i save as .ai, and in autocad i save as .eps
07:42 PM roycroft: both of which i can load into illustrator, which will convert to svg
07:43 PM roycroft: but it only works about 10% of the time, and i haven't figured out a common pattern for failure or success
07:43 PM roycroft: i have zero intention of converting everything i do to fusion 360, but if it can files to my origin i'll use it for that
07:43 PM XXCoder: maybe load simplest error one into inkscape
07:44 PM XXCoder: and look though nodes see if everything is proper
07:44 PM roycroft: the origin won't even recognize the svg files i've made with inkscape
07:44 PM roycroft: i tried that
07:44 PM XXCoder: inkscape can export bare svg
07:44 PM roycroft: yes
07:44 PM roycroft: i've done it
07:44 PM XXCoder: hmm wonder why its not working
07:44 PM roycroft: and the orgin says "i don't know what you're trying to feed me, but i'm not going to eat it"
07:45 PM roycroft: at least with illustrator the origin will load the file
07:45 PM XXCoder: thats odd. svg should be standard, unless orgin only supports few very specific stuff
07:45 PM roycroft: i can even cut it if i want, but only on-line
07:45 PM roycroft: i.e. with the cutter centered on the line
07:45 PM roycroft: i can't cut to the inside or outside of the line
07:45 PM roycroft: which is what i need to do about 100% of the time when i'm doing joinery
07:46 PM XXCoder: you can do cheat a bit in inkscape. set path width then convert path to paths
07:46 PM XXCoder: ie edges of path into paths
07:46 PM roycroft: i may get back to inkscape at some point
07:46 PM XXCoder: dunno if theres such thing in illustrator
07:46 PM roycroft: right now i'm going to see if fusion 360 will do the job
07:47 PM roycroft: if that works, and if i can save as dfx in autocad, i can draw in autocad and use fusion 360 just for the svg conversion
07:47 PM XXCoder: (btw that trick also works if you wanted to make shape more "fat" rather than larger which wont work in certain cases)
07:47 PM roycroft: and that's my end goal - to use the tools i already have and am familiar with to do my drawings/models, and use whatever other tool(s) i need for the svg conversion
07:48 PM roycroft: i'm actually much more conversant with illustrator than inkscape
07:48 PM roycroft: i've been using illustrator regularly since the '80s
07:49 PM roycroft: inkscape off and on for a decade or so
07:49 PM roycroft: it used to really suck, and i avoided it for the longest time
07:49 PM roycroft: but it's not dead yet - it's getting better!
07:54 PM roycroft: my cat has been giving me the "why haven't you done something to make it cooler?" glare all day today
07:54 PM XXCoder: I dislike recent inkscape gui changes :(
07:54 PM roycroft: i have not informed her yet that the heat wave proper does not begin until tomorrow
07:54 PM XXCoder: how sides slide in and out ugh
07:55 PM Tom_L: how bad are the files? have you looked?
07:55 PM Tom_L: we would go in and repair the disconnects to get a good working part
07:56 PM roycroft: tom_l: when i export to eps in autocad i get huge svg files that i can't parse manually
07:56 PM Tom_L: different type of translation but it still applies to the accuracy of translation
07:56 PM Tom_L: are there any settings you can manipulate the translation with?
07:56 PM roycroft: when i export to ai in solidworks illustrator saves to simple svg files that look fine to me
07:57 PM Tom_L: how close did you look?
07:57 PM roycroft: i've tried rectangles and triangles, to make for really simple files
07:57 PM Tom_L: it doesn't take much
07:57 PM roycroft: and i don't see anything that looks wrong
07:57 PM roycroft: but some work and some don't
07:57 PM Tom_L: find a simple one with an open path and look at the endpoints very close
07:58 PM roycroft: i'm going to see if fusion 360 can generate files that the origin likes
07:58 PM roycroft: that gets me back to using the machine while i'm figuring out why the other tools are not working right
07:58 PM roycroft: and tonight is my last chance to do any of that for a week
07:59 PM Tom_L: we would get models from cadam nr catia exported to iges and nearly always had to do at least some editing
07:59 PM roycroft: tomorrow i'll be spending the entire day cleaning, prepping the van, packing, heading out to get my wristband, and taking care of a million other details
07:59 PM roycroft: and wednesday is pack in day
07:59 PM roycroft: i'll spend wednesday night at home, but then on thursday i'm out for the duration
07:59 PM roycroft: shaper really want me to use their tool
08:00 PM roycroft: which is rental ware, and only works with an internet connection
08:00 PM roycroft: it's not that expensive, but it's also a pain in the butt to use, and really not very powerful at all
08:00 PM roycroft: the real problem with it is that they push it so hard that their users don't talk about other tools very much
08:01 PM roycroft: i've found shaper is cultish like apple can be
08:01 PM roycroft: i'm an apple user but not an apple fanboi
08:01 PM roycroft: and similarly, i'm a shaper user (or i think i'll be) but not a fanboi
08:01 PM CAKESLOB: hmm SVG was a pain when I was doing vinyl cut
08:02 PM roycroft: the fact that i bought a refurb gen 1 origin instead of a shiny gen 2 is a good indicator that i'm not a fanboi :)
08:02 PM roycroft: i'm almost wondering if lightburn will work for this
08:02 PM CAKESLOB: i usually made my stuff in png and did some line trace thing to convert it to SVG
08:02 PM roycroft: it can save svg files, and it can import some other formats
08:02 PM roycroft: yeah, but i'm doing precision joinery here
08:02 PM roycroft: i need accuracy to 0.001"
08:03 PM CAKESLOB: yeah, i usually did a scale thing after it converted
08:03 PM roycroft: so tracing raster images isn't going to work for me
08:03 PM CAKESLOB: yeah, scaling the SVG afterward to size is no issue i think thats what SVG is
08:03 PM roycroft: you know
08:03 PM roycroft: i wonder of openscad might be something that works for me
08:04 PM roycroft: scaling is not a problem
08:04 PM XXCoder: if I needed precision size svg design i would use freecad sketch then export as svg
08:04 PM roycroft: if freecad had an official assembly workbench i might consider that :)
08:04 PM CAKESLOB: but if you need outside cut vs inside cut, you might need to offset the single line file to something else
08:05 PM CAKESLOB: like offset the whole permiter
08:05 PM XXCoder: not sure what that does with my usage.
08:05 PM CAKESLOB: hmm actually
08:05 PM CAKESLOB: trying to remember my toolchain
08:05 PM CAKESLOB: there was an online tool i used to use
08:06 PM CAKESLOB: because svg was some kind of format inbetween art and cad
08:06 PM roycroft: openscad will export to svg
08:06 PM roycroft: cakeslob: the origin will do all of that
08:06 PM roycroft: when i place an object on the part, i can tell it to cut on the line, for engraving, cut inside the line, or cut outside the line
08:06 PM CAKESLOB: oh ok good
08:06 PM roycroft: i can also tell it to do a pocket cut if i need to clear out a big area
08:07 PM roycroft: the pocket cut will cut about 0.025" inside the line
08:07 PM roycroft: so i do that, then do the final cut as an inside cut
08:07 PM roycroft: it's even smart enough so that if the final cut is multiple passes, it will cut 0.005" inside the the line for all but the final pass, then cut right on the line for the final pass
08:08 PM roycroft: and i can program offsets as well, so i can tell it to cut 0.002" outside the line, for example
08:08 PM roycroft: it does what it does very well, once you feed it a file that it likes
08:09 PM roycroft: when i inlayed those bow ties, i used the same object files for both the bow ties and the recesses
08:09 PM roycroft: i cut the bow ties outside the line, right on the line, and the recesses first as pocket cuts, then inside cuts right on the line
08:10 PM roycroft: https://roycroft.us/CounterTop/BowTies10.jpeg
08:10 PM roycroft: that's the fit i got
08:10 PM roycroft: https://roycroft.us/CounterTop/BowTies6.jpeg
08:11 PM roycroft: there's the screen on the origin
08:11 PM roycroft: the blue bits are the cuts i've already made
08:11 PM roycroft: so that's after the pocket cuts and after the inside cuts right to the lines
08:14 PM XXCoder: roy im still not sure why you reacted to my comment on how I process some stuff
08:14 PM roycroft: i didn't mean to offend, if you took it that way
08:15 PM XXCoder: not offended, just confused
08:15 PM roycroft: well this whole business confuses me and frustrates me
08:15 PM roycroft: but i think in large part because i have no time to deal with it right now
08:16 PM roycroft: that first origin being defective really screwed up my schedule
08:16 PM roycroft: i had to wait a week to get one that works, and that was a pretty significant week
08:16 PM roycroft: so now it's crunch time
08:16 PM roycroft: i'm not going to be able to get the lamps made that i wanted to make for this year's fair
08:16 PM XXCoder: that sucks
08:17 PM roycroft: maybe taking a week off, stepping back, and regrouping will give me a fresh perspective on the problem, and the solution will come to me
08:17 PM roycroft: i still plan on buying vectric vcarve pro when i build my gantry cnc router
08:18 PM roycroft: maybe that's another option - to get a trial version of vcarve pro and see if it can generate the svg files for me
08:18 PM roycroft: that software was written specifically for cnc routing, so it should have the tools i need
08:18 PM roycroft: if the export format works ...
08:18 PM XXCoder: hopefully that would work
08:18 PM roycroft: i have several options
08:19 PM roycroft: i just don't want it to take until the rainy season to have a workflow that i can actually use reliably
08:20 PM XXCoder: yeah process would be ideally down before project needs it
08:29 PM roycroft: i'll never get a maine coon cat again unless i move to canadia or scandanavia or iceland
08:29 PM roycroft: it's not fair to the critter
08:29 PM XXCoder: overly furry for hot weather eh
08:29 PM XXCoder: maybe it would be fine 20 years ago
08:29 PM XXCoder: it was hot for like 3 or 4 weeks
08:30 PM roycroft: yes
08:30 PM roycroft: i mean, i have this cat that weighs about 6kg
08:30 PM roycroft: i do the dusting and vacuum the floors regularly
08:31 PM roycroft: but i bet if i were to collect all the stray cat hair in my house right now i'd have 10kg of hair
08:31 PM XXCoder: and you get enough to make 2 cats each time ;)
08:31 PM XXCoder: that reminds me of that project where people make clothing from pet shred hair
08:32 PM iggw0[m]: I am trying to calibrate the axcies of my mill and it can not get it quite right. i am starting to think that my timing values are off
08:33 PM iggw0[m]: the drive i am using is the CL57Y
08:33 PM iggw0[m]: https://www.omc-stepperonline.com/download/Y-serie-closed-loop-drivers.pdf
08:33 PM iggw0[m]: What vaues should i have
08:34 PM Tom_L: http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?Stepper_Drive_Timing
08:34 PM Tom_L: see if you see your driver there
08:34 PM Tom_L: or one that is close
08:34 PM Tom_L: otherwise go to the drive pdf
08:35 PM iggw0[m]: ok
08:35 PM iggw0[m]: i dont see anything like what i am using on there
08:36 PM Tom_L: or maybe the signal needs to be inverted?
08:36 PM iggw0[m]: what do you mean?
08:36 PM iggw0[m]: also what pluse/rev would you suggest
08:37 PM iggw0[m]: i was at 800 and that did not seem good. now trying to get it working at 2000 pluse/rev
08:38 PM Tom_L: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/49-basic-configuration/33004-formula-to-calculate-the-right-scale
08:38 PM Tom_L: it's not a guestimate, it's a calculated number
08:44 PM Tom_L: iggw0[m], how many degrees per step are the steppers?
08:44 PM Tom_L: start with that
08:46 PM iggw0[m]: Thanks
08:47 PM * iggw0[m] uploaded an image: (1984KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/RqsNPNluPFVftvXBAInsZNGE/IMG_2023.jpg >
08:47 PM iggw0[m]: What I mean is which dip switches should I put down?
08:47 PM iggw0[m]: Like with Linux CNC
08:48 PM iggw0[m]: Should I do 2000\rev?
08:49 PM Unterhausen: that's not really a lcnc question
08:50 PM Unterhausen: that's a motor and driver question
08:51 PM Unterhausen: what goes wrong when you try to drive it with lcnc?
08:52 PM Unterhausen: 800 may be a resonance and just going higher or lower may fix it, but "did not seem good" isn't enough to go on
09:12 PM roycroft: so i'm all for good fun, but sometimes folks get so whimsical i have a hard time understanding it
09:13 PM roycroft: the citizens of dundurn, saskatchewan set a world record on canada day this year for the most people gathered together wearing inflatable dinosaur costumes with 1,163
09:14 PM XXCoder: fun
09:14 PM roycroft: that more than triples the old record of 380 set in portland oregon last year
09:15 PM roycroft: https://saskatoon.ctvnews.ca/this-sask-town-broke-a-guinness-record-with-a-costume-party-1.6464859
09:16 PM roycroft: and yay! thank you privacy badger!
09:16 PM roycroft: there is a link to a facebook page on that url, but privacy badger kindly blocked it for me
09:19 PM * roycroft cannot fathom donning an inflatable dinosaur costume when the temperature is in the mid to upper 30s
09:20 PM XXCoder: wouldnt having air barrier help aainst sun
09:21 PM roycroft: it would just be all sweaty
09:21 PM roycroft: and dundurn is south of saskatoon, so it's not like it's up near hudson's bay and not all that hot
09:23 PM XXCoder: I bet can design in a blower to maintain postive pressure so theres always airflow
10:58 PM CaptHindsight[m]: just happened to be out at the right time to watch fireworks that were right next to the full Buck moon tonight
11:15 PM roycroft: we'll have a blue moon next month
11:17 PM XXCoder: aww sad moon ;)
11:18 PM XXCoder: im working on 2020 and 2040 frame for filter fan now
11:18 PM XXCoder: man extrusions is so awesome.
11:54 PM XXCoder: excellent I have rough plan for now
11:54 PM XXCoder: need to print bunch of parts.
