12:00 AM liaoque: CaptHindsight[m] :Don't you go to sleep?
12:11 AM CaptHindsight[m]: soon
12:11 AM CaptHindsight[m]: I was served Chicken Fried Rice at an official Chinese government function in Beijing, so things are changing
12:11 AM CaptHindsight[m]: oh and Bao is becoming a trendy thing here
12:13 AM CaptHindsight[m]: there is an idea for a new thing here, Foot-Stop, like WingStop only with feet vs wings
12:14 AM CaptHindsight[m]: wings used to be another throw away part of the chicken
12:15 AM liaoque: Chicken wings are a delicacy in China
12:17 AM roycroft: so are "100 year old" black eggs
12:17 AM roycroft: that were not originally black
12:17 AM roycroft: and shark fins
12:17 AM CaptHindsight[m]: https://wanderlog.com/list/geoCategory/22238/best-chinese-food-in-shenzhen
12:18 AM liaoque: “皮蛋”
12:18 AM liaoque: Have the chance to welcome you to China
12:19 AM liaoque: I'll treat you to something delicious
12:20 AM CaptHindsight[m]: heh, #3 is in Hong King, who made that list?
12:20 AM CaptHindsight[m]: Hong Kong even
12:22 AM liaoque: There are ten major cuisines in China
12:23 AM CaptHindsight[m]: I made the mistake of mentioning that I tend to eat lots of spicy hot, so they used to try and take me only to places that served very spicy hot....
12:23 AM CaptHindsight[m]: it was never really that spicy for me but I'm not always in the mood for it
12:24 AM liaoque: I like Sichuan food
12:24 AM CaptHindsight[m]: I once shocked the staff by plucking some of their hottest pepper out of a broth and right into my mouth
12:24 AM CaptHindsight[m]: I do to at times
12:24 AM liaoque: (y)
12:26 AM roycroft: do you ever watch junkyard mook, capthindsight?
12:27 AM CaptHindsight[m]: it can be difficult to find fresh Chinese vegetables here
12:27 AM CaptHindsight[m]: same for some fruits
12:27 AM CaptHindsight[m]: roycroft: nope
12:27 AM roycroft: oh
12:27 AM roycroft: she's a youtube gal, of course
12:28 AM roycroft: her partner has a pretty successful channel where he fixes up old hot rods and junkers
12:28 AM roycroft: she does the same, but she particularly likes pickups
12:28 AM roycroft: anyway, i saw a video of hers the other day where she pulled the engine out of an old chevy, then sat in the engine compartment and did some hot sauce tasting
12:28 AM CaptHindsight[m]: roycroft: what you don't see is how poor much of the work is
12:28 AM roycroft: she had hot sauces in the millions of scovilles
12:29 AM roycroft: oh, it's very obvious
12:29 AM roycroft: the videos are not about fixing up vehicles properly
12:29 AM CaptHindsight[m]: I get it
12:29 AM roycroft: they're about personalities and entertainment
12:30 AM roycroft: i mean
12:31 AM roycroft: mook and kevin are out in the middle of iowa
12:31 AM roycroft: their part store where they buy everything to fix up their cars is o'reillys
12:31 AM roycroft: so how good a job could they possibly do?
12:31 AM CaptHindsight[m]: sure, why I watch James May shows vs say others that are on Top Gear
12:32 AM CaptHindsight[m]: I'd like to watch a car show with Italian engineers that chain smoke
12:32 AM XXCoder: I liked james
12:32 AM CaptHindsight[m]: and argue over dumb shit
12:32 AM roycroft: i guess since it's not my thing, i'm ok with watching those repairs done badly for the entertainment value
12:33 AM CaptHindsight[m]: you can't put cucumbers on a pizza
12:33 AM roycroft: i don't watch videos of wood butchering, because i can't
12:33 AM roycroft: so i get you don't watch mook and her ilk
12:33 AM XXCoder: I watch wide range of videos, but I hate to see peopl do stuff not safely
12:34 AM XXCoder: like that table saw one ugh
12:34 AM XXCoder: video was otherwise excellent, but watching guy slap table with saw still up
12:34 AM XXCoder: (even off)(
12:34 AM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOHYATm5a1U
12:35 AM CaptHindsight[m]: https://youtu.be/DOHYATm5a1U?t=112 best part
12:40 AM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RYBi7B64N4
12:40 AM CaptHindsight[m]: wheel bearings, water pump, alternator
12:41 AM CaptHindsight[m]: and they are worried about springs
01:27 AM roycroft: i think their bigger worry is being stuck in the middle of iowa
01:27 AM roycroft: and mook is from minnesota
01:27 AM roycroft: so she went there on purpose
01:31 AM Deejay: moin
02:16 AM pere: Anyone here understand Romanian? <URL: https://hosted.weblate.org/translate/linuxcnc/gmocappy/ro/?checksum=40c8821de0a42535#machinery > seem like a mistake to me, but I do not understand Romanian.
02:47 AM TurBoss: in spain salami is food 🙂
02:48 AM TurBoss: but dont unsdestand too
03:16 AM pere: it is food in norway too, which caused my initial sceptisism..
03:32 AM sensille: why are cheapo mpg handwheels so expensive?
03:36 AM XXCoder: encoder wheel is around $10 to $20
03:36 AM XXCoder: sp dunno
03:36 AM sensille: i meant those simple controllers with one wheel and 2 knobs
03:37 AM sensille: but maybe i should just get a wheel or two and print and enclosure
03:37 AM XXCoder: yeah like I said wheel isnt too expensive
03:37 AM XXCoder: if you have cnc, you can do combo
03:37 AM XXCoder: 3d printed case with metal face for controls
03:37 AM XXCoder: maybe backing too
03:38 AM sensille: metal face, fancy
03:38 AM XXCoder: cut up sheet isnt too hard to do im sure
03:38 AM XXCoder: can even do it manually
03:38 AM sensille: these 2 knobs seem quite awkward to handle, but that's what they all have
03:39 AM sensille: wouldn't be butons on the side more practical? one for each axis, hold while jogging?
03:40 AM travis_farmer[m4: Morning ☕️
04:11 AM krj[m] is now known as krj20[m]
04:57 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:22 AM JT-Cave: 80°F this morning
05:23 AM travis_farmer[m4: 53F, but it is going to climb to 80F @ 98%rh
05:42 AM JT-Cave: rooser just crowed
05:48 AM * travis_farmer[m4 wishes my fathers accountant would hurry up and get my IRS Tax returns done so i knew if i was getting any money back to go toward my new shop...
05:55 AM JT-Cave: when you can't find the door it's time to wake up
05:55 AM travis_farmer[m4: ???
06:01 AM Tom_L: morning
06:17 AM Tom_L: 69°F hi 86°F
06:17 AM Tom_L: rained a bit overnite
06:42 AM Unterhausen: Tom_L when you did the ping test, did you have anything running on the computer?
06:52 AM JT-Cave: not a drop here yet
06:52 AM JT-Cave: travis_farmer[m4, when you can't solve the dream it's time to wake up
06:58 AM Unterhausen: we actually got a little rain, didn't expect that
06:59 AM Unterhausen: triathletes are going to compete tomorrow in thunderstorms. Seems like it might not be the best idea, bike route goes over a mountain
07:07 AM travis_farmer[m4: JT: ahh yes, it makes sense now. i haven't dreamed in ages... probably the Trazadone i take for night-time anxiety...
07:20 AM Unterhausen: there is a network latency test you can do inside lcnc, but I don't see the post that talks about it on the forum
07:49 AM JT-Cave: sudo chrt 99 ping -i .001 -q 10.10.10.10
07:54 AM Jym: 105F today
07:55 AM travis_farmer[m4: dry heat?
07:56 AM Jym: 68%
08:07 AM JT-Cave: 94% here
08:07 AM JT-Cave: hot and muggy
08:09 AM Jym: Yuck, I have a hard time dealing with humidity, even at like 78F, much less higher temps.
08:10 AM travis_farmer[m4: at 98%rh here, you can almost swim in mid air ;-)
08:29 AM JT-Cave: Tom_L, working on the i/o
08:33 AM Tom_L: Unterhausen, i was browsing the internet a bit
08:33 AM travis_farmer[m4: sounds dangerous... ;-)
08:49 AM * travis_farmer[m4 watches JT's latest video :-)
09:01 AM travis_farmer[m4: good video JT, enjoyed the ride, even if it was a little slow moving... ;-)
09:03 AM JT-Cave: well it was his first time driving a C8 so he was a bit conservative
09:03 AM JT-Cave: I'm impressed with the quality of the PDR camera
09:03 AM travis_farmer[m4: can't say as i would blame him, given the cost of it ;-)
09:04 AM travis_farmer[m4: i would still prefer a new Goldwing GL1800, personally ;-)
09:05 AM JT-Cave: we saw a 2021 goldwing yesterday and it is quite nice... the seat is a bit lower and the cowling is a bit narrower
09:06 AM travis_farmer[m4: yeah, they look sportier :-)
09:10 AM travis_farmer[m4: if only i had $30K available ;-)
09:32 AM JT-Cave: starting to see some activity on radar
09:34 AM Tom_L: missed the video
09:34 AM JT-Cave: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5MCzwqeArs
09:36 AM Tom_L: no pressure with all the women watching
09:38 AM Tom_L: are all those skid marks yours? :)
09:45 AM JT-Cave: lol, no
10:04 AM JT-Cave: skid marks like that mean he does not have traction control and will just spin his wheels...
10:04 AM Tom_L: yeah probably some kid
10:05 AM JT-Cave: or some kid at heart
10:05 AM * Tom_L looks innocently at JT-Cave
10:05 AM JT-Cave: who me?
10:05 AM * JT-Cave goes to finish cleaning the nasty fly traps...
10:06 AM * Tom_L finishes some paperwork
10:20 AM JT-Shop: Wimpy
10:26 AM * travis_farmer[m4 is glad he is not old and decrepit enough to remember that line... ;-) though, does remember watching Popeye... :-)
10:46 AM Jym: Anyone care to machine a  spy bug that has no wires and uses no electricity?  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLDpWrwijE8
11:18 AM roycroft: looks kind of like a condensor mic to me
11:20 AM Jym: roycroft I spyed on the US Embassy for 7 years
11:20 AM roycroft: with your own eye?
11:20 AM Unterhausen: Tom_L .65ms is okay, right?
11:21 AM Unterhausen: max ping delay
11:26 AM CaptHindsight[m]: JT-Shop: they still play old cartoons on some networks but most today would just be puzzled by the context of that running gag
11:34 AM roycroft: popeye cartoons are definitely not politically correct
11:35 AM roycroft: nor road runner, nor bugs bunny, nor almost any others that were made before about last week
11:42 AM Tom_L: Unterhausen, that's a pcw question
11:42 AM Tom_L: i'd think so
11:43 AM Tom_L: i'm building 6.4 with his config
11:45 AM CaptHindsight[m]: 83F here with 123% humidity
11:50 AM Tom_L: Unterhausen, did you see his result on the dev channel?
11:56 AM Jym: roycroft Typo, IT spyed on the embassy for 7 years, not me.
11:57 AM CaptHindsight[m]: that killer clown from the movies?
12:14 PM Jym: CaptHindsight[m] I thought killer clowns came from outer space?
12:40 PM Unterhausen: Tom_L my max delay is always around .7ms with a video running and lcnc latency test and 7 glx gears
12:40 PM Mangy_Dog: is a 4gb pi4 good enough for linux cnc or do i really need 8?
12:40 PM Tom_L: you probably need 8
12:41 PM Mangy_Dog: :/
12:41 PM pcw-home: Unterhausen: what Ethernet interface
12:41 PM Unterhausen: it's an intel
12:42 PM Unterhausen: built into the motherboard
12:42 PM Unterhausen: I think 4gb pi will work, it has for me
12:42 PM pcw-home: do you have irq coalescing disabled?
12:42 PM Unterhausen: I tried to disable it
12:43 PM CAKESLOB: Im using 1gb and 2gb RPI and linuxcnc with no issues
12:44 PM pcw-home: Dont load a large GCODE file with the backplot on...
12:44 PM Tom_L: livin on the edge..
12:45 PM pcw-home: once you need to swap, its all over...
12:45 PM Mangy_Dog: oh well ordered an 8 gb
12:45 PM Mangy_Dog: just about in stock :p
12:46 PM Unterhausen: there seem to be more 8gb right now
12:46 PM Unterhausen: or maybe 4gb just sell out faster
12:46 PM CAKESLOB: lucky theres def more right now
12:46 PM CAKESLOB: im gonna try to load up my 1gb or 2gb when I get home
12:47 PM Mangy_Dog: actually at the moment more 4gb
12:47 PM Mangy_Dog: though they only went into stock today
12:47 PM Mangy_Dog: most sold out fast
12:47 PM CAKESLOB: but my gcode files......are all uner 512kb
12:47 PM pcw-home: Unterhausen: what does ethtool -c [your_ethernet_device_name] show?
12:47 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Unterhausen: OPI5
12:48 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/18-computer/48079-can-the-opi5-be-configured-to-run-lcnc
12:48 PM Unterhausen: PCW have to install ethtool
12:48 PM pcw-home: also make sure you "sudo chrt 99 ping -i .001 -q 10.10.10.10" not just "ping 10.10.10.10"
12:49 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/media/kunena/attachments/34744/cnc-18Jun2023-876.png
12:49 PM Unterhausen: pcs-home I take it rx-usecs 3 isn't good?
12:50 PM CAKESLOB: CaptHindsight[m] need to figure out remora driver for rockchip
12:50 PM Unterhausen: wonder if I misspelled it
12:50 PM CaptHindsight[m]: CAKESLOB: which rockchip?
12:50 PM Unterhausen: pcw-home I take it rx-usecs 3 isn't good?
12:51 PM CAKESLOB: well, I need it for 328
12:51 PM CAKESLOB: 3328*
12:51 PM CAKESLOB: but anything will do really
12:51 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://opensource.rock-chips.com/wiki_RK3328
12:52 PM pcw-home: It means you have not disabled IRQ coalescing which is a requirement for Intel Ethernet chips
12:52 PM pcw-home: (man hm2_eth)
12:52 PM CaptHindsight[m]: CAKESLOB: already 7 years old
12:53 PM CaptHindsight[m]: almost EOL
12:53 PM CAKESLOB: some all in one boards use it
12:53 PM CaptHindsight[m]: CAKESLOB: do they use SPI to connect to a micro?
12:54 PM CAKESLOB: there is one I think
12:54 PM CAKESLOB: or it was an easy jumper wire
12:54 PM CAKESLOB: I got the mirco woprking and saw how hard it was gonna be
12:54 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I think I saw it when you posted in the forums
12:54 PM CAKESLOB: https://github.com/mrbubble62/UPBoard-Remora/tree/upboard/LinuxCNC/Components/Upboard
12:54 PM CAKESLOB: mrbubbles has what looks like a framework to port it to other boards
12:55 PM CAKESLOB: hmm hes not onlione right now
12:55 PM Unterhausen: I'm trying to spot my typo and failing
12:56 PM Tom_L: it's not your typing, it's your tone of voice :)
12:57 PM Tom_L: last kernel build was a fail... recovering
12:58 PM Unterhausen: did you run out of memory?
12:58 PM Tom_L: i don't think it liked that config
12:58 PM Tom_L: it screwed grub but i'm getting it fixed
12:59 PM Tom_L: i hope
01:00 PM Tom_L: at least it was kind enough to save the old kernel
01:01 PM Unterhausen: okay, apparently I had a typo, because I cut/paste from the man page and it works now
01:01 PM Tom_L: which now doesn't work so i'll delete it and boot 6.1
01:02 PM Unterhausen: max is .34
01:02 PM Tom_L: that's good
01:02 PM Unterhausen: not as good as pcw's
01:02 PM Tom_L: he's been at it longer :_
01:03 PM Unterhausen: I suppose it's to be expected
01:03 PM Unterhausen: that bug in firefox is really annoying
01:03 PM Tom_L: i really should stop screwing with this before i regret it
01:04 PM travis_farmer[m4: so, i was out running my spindle, as the manual says to run it for a while to keep up the bearings or some such thing. whatever the case, i do it (several minutes at 12000, then several minutes at 24000, to warm it up good) but anyway, i noticed while the spindle speedometer says 24000, the at-speed was off, with a near comp set to 1500 difference. so i investigated, and found the analog input was reading 10.82V, rather than the 10V
01:04 PM travis_farmer[m4: i was expecting. a quick change in my conversion .comp file, and now it works, and reports closer to the expected RPM. and i got MQTT to report every 1 second now as well. i feel like i was productive this afternoon :-)
01:04 PM Unterhausen: it shouldn't cause too much trouble to build kernels
01:04 PM Tom_L: not if they don't boot
01:05 PM Unterhausen: just reboot and choose a different kernel
01:05 PM travis_farmer[m4: i also re-coded my speedometer to go up to 30000, so i can catch issues in the future
01:06 PM Unterhausen: under load, it went back up
01:06 PM Unterhausen: .5
01:06 PM Tom_L: still not bad
01:07 PM pcw-home: It not enough, next steps are isolcpus and pinning the Ethernet IRQ to the isolated CPU
01:09 PM pcw-home: (if not enough)
01:09 PM Unterhausen: I have isolcpus
01:09 PM Unterhausen: I haven't had any problems, do you expect this to cause them?
01:10 PM pcw-home: if you don't get errors that should be OK
01:13 PM Unterhausen: are there directions somewhere to pin the irq?
01:14 PM Unterhausen: didn't see anything in the man page
01:16 PM pcw-home: It really needs someone good at scripts to do
01:17 PM pcw-home: basically you find which irq your ethernet interface uses and then pin it to the isolated CPU
01:17 PM JT-Shop: I thought I had pinning written down somewhere but can't find it
01:18 PM Tom_L: https://access.redhat.com/solutions/2144921
01:18 PM Tom_L: might have something
01:19 PM pcw-home: you can find the IRQ in /proc/interrupts
01:19 PM Tom_L: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/34922990/how-to-pin-a-interrupt-to-a-cpu-in-driver
01:22 PM Tom_L: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/server-performance-tuning-interrupt-process-affinity-cpu-kumar
01:22 PM Tom_L: dunno
01:23 PM Unterhausen: there are interrupts pinned to the isolated cpus that look like they should be on the non-pinned
01:23 PM Tom_L: kernel 6.4 round 3
01:23 PM Unterhausen: kernel building can be a rabbit hole
01:24 PM Tom_L: gives me time to watch cartoons
01:24 PM Unterhausen: on this computer, I can watch the lord of the rings
01:25 PM Unterhausen: and the kernel still isn't going to be built
01:26 PM Unterhausen: the thing I found says if it's not on an io-apic I can't pin the interrupt
01:27 PM JT-Shop: we might get some rain after all
01:29 PM Unterhausen: we are going to get a lot of rain, looks like
01:34 PM Unterhausen: messing with cpu affinity might do something bad, however
01:34 PM Unterhausen: here we go
01:35 PM Unterhausen: permission denied
01:41 PM Unterhausen: had to log in as root
01:43 PM * JT-Shop waits for the rain...
01:43 PM Unterhausen: I set it to cpu 3 and it just ignored me
01:43 PM * travis_farmer[m4 enjoys the sun
01:44 PM Unterhausen: it didn't really ignore me, but it's still handling interrupts on cpu0
01:46 PM * JT-Shop can't find much about pinning the Ethernet IRQ to the isolated CPU
01:46 PM Unterhausen: https://cs.uwaterloo.ca/~brecht/servers/apic/SMP-affinity.txt
01:47 PM Unterhausen: find your ethernet card in /proc/interrupts and see if it's on an apic
01:48 PM Unterhausen: interrupt number is first column then there is a list of times the interrupt has been handled per cpu
01:48 PM roycroft: https://roycroft.us/CounterTop/FinishedCountertop1.jpeg
01:48 PM roycroft: https://roycroft.us/CounterTop/FinishedCountertop2.jpeg
01:48 PM roycroft: far from the best finish i've ever applied, but not bad considering i started applying it at supper time last night
01:49 PM roycroft: and it's waxed and somewhat buffed out now
01:49 PM Unterhausen: JT-Shop it is easier to find info when searching for smp_affinity
01:49 PM roycroft: now i get to go build a stand for it and install it
01:49 PM Unterhausen: roycroft looks good to me, but I have very low standards
01:50 PM JT-Shop: the rain finally came
01:50 PM roycroft: it's fine for an outdoor booth at a festival
01:50 PM roycroft: :)
01:50 PM roycroft: and right now is the only time ever that it's going to look even that nice
01:50 PM Unterhausen: I was going to say, after it gets used it's going to look worse
01:50 PM * roycroft is prepared for it to get somewhat trashed by wednesday
01:51 PM roycroft: i could have made it to lower standards, but i was trying some techniques i've not used before, so this was my sample
01:51 PM Unterhausen: I guess I should change the smp_affinity back even though it doesn't affect anything
01:51 PM roycroft: it was the first time i ever used the shaper origin, and i think the bow ties that are on the top turned out pretty well
01:52 PM roycroft: and it's the first time i ever applied finish 18 hours before installation
01:52 PM Unterhausen: bowties look good, how much cleanup with a chisel did it take
01:52 PM JT-Shop: https://docs.kernel.org/core-api/irq/irq-affinity.html
01:53 PM JT-Shop: roycroft, what finish did you go with?
01:53 PM roycroft: watco danish oil, three coats
01:53 PM Unterhausen: JT my link is more complete
01:53 PM JT-Shop: hmm, I missed it... let me look back
01:53 PM roycroft: unterhausen: i used a 1/8" cutter for the final pass on the recesses, so i just had to sharpen up the 1/16" radius in the corners
01:54 PM roycroft: i also put a slight chamfer on the underside of the bow ties to make them easier to insert
01:54 PM roycroft: altogether, about 5 minutes of chisel work total for all three
01:54 PM Unterhausen: I failed to divide by 2, so I wasn't thinking it was such a small radius
01:54 PM roycroft: i have a 1/32" diameter cutter
01:55 PM roycroft: and i probably could have just pressed the bow ties in without trimming had i used that
01:55 PM roycroft: but it would have taken another pass with the origin, and i figure cleaning up by hand would be faster
01:55 PM JT-Shop: Unterhausen, yup a better link
01:56 PM roycroft: anyway, it is time to go install the counter and finish setting up the booth
01:56 PM * roycroft takes off
01:57 PM Unterhausen: I put smp_affinity in my kernel building doc even though it doesn't work on my system
01:58 PM roguish[m]: topped out at 101 yesterday. already 94 today
02:00 PM JT-Shop: temp dropped to 88 just before the rain started
02:02 PM roguish[m]: flying to Hawaii tomorrow for a long week.....big island
02:04 PM Unterhausen: well, my relaxation video got interrupted by some political nonsense ads
02:04 PM Unterhausen: the ads just kept playing until I noticed
02:07 PM Unterhausen: I'm trying to hit the new scrolling limit on twitter just for fun
02:10 PM Unterhausen: so far I'm mostly seeing posts about how there is a limit, haven't hit it yet
02:43 PM Scopeuk: Think it's 300 tweets
02:43 PM Scopeuk: Which is quite a few to just scroll through given how slow it loads
02:49 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.reddit.com/r/CatastrophicFailure/comments/13o8k1h/truck_crashes_but_chassis_keeps_on_going_date/ nice safety feature
02:50 PM CaptHindsight[m]: driver walks away
03:04 PM travis_farmer[m4: odd, i never heard my standby generator exercise today... Genmon says it ran fine, on time... i must have just not heard it...
03:10 PM CaptHindsight[m]: and quiet
03:38 PM JT-Shop: might get some heavy rain in a bit
03:41 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop has rain and internet!
03:44 PM Unterhausen: rainstorm just broke up and went around us. Little dog lost her mind for nothing
03:45 PM Tom_L: spoke too soon..
03:46 PM travis_farmer[m4: lol, interesting timing

04:13 PM Unterhausen: Looks like we're getting smoke again on the 4th, can't them consarned Canadians give us a break?
04:17 PM JT-Cave: pcw-home, is this correct for a 7i96T with 7i76 on P1 and 7i77 on P1 hm2_7i92.0.7i76.0.2.input-00 hm2_7i92.0.7i77.0.3.input-00
04:17 PM JT-Cave: one is .0.2. and the 7i77 is .0.3.
04:17 PM JT-Cave: is that correct?
04:18 PM Unterhausen: JT, is mesact 2 ready?
04:22 PM JT-Cave: working on it... but you can look if you like
04:22 PM JT-Cave: I'm trying hard to make it much better than mesact
04:23 PM JT-Cave: working on the I/O now
04:23 PM pcw-home: Let me look at the source, are you asking about the sserial channel layout of 7i96s_7i76 and 7I96_7i77?
04:23 PM Unterhausen: I have run it before on another system, I just dl from github and run it?
04:25 PM JT-Cave: no, the 7i92T with 7i77 on P1 or 7i76 on P1
04:26 PM JT-Cave: I kinda expected them to both be on 2
04:26 PM pcw-home: Note, P1 is the second connector, it that what you meant?
04:26 PM JT-Cave: sorry miss typed 7i96T meant 7i92T
04:27 PM JT-Cave: yes the IDC 26 connector on the 7i92T
04:27 PM JT-Cave: both cards on P2 are 0.0
04:28 PM JT-Cave: Unterhausen, yes you can just download or clone then run it from a terminal
04:28 PM pcw-home: The sserial channels are typically just in sequence:
04:29 PM pcw-home: 7I76+7I76 0,1 on first 7I76, 2,3 on second
04:29 PM pcw-home: 7I77+7I77 0,1,2 on first 7I77 3,4,5 on second
04:30 PM pcw-home: 7I76+7I77, 0,1 on 7I76, 2,3,4 on 7I77
04:31 PM pcw-home: you can verify with the .pin file/readhmid
04:31 PM JT-Cave: https://pastebin.com/sggF5uCB
04:31 PM JT-Cave: I expected hm2_7i92.0.7i77.0.2.input-00 on P1
04:32 PM JT-Cave: I just have one card connected to P1 at a time
04:33 PM pcw-home: if thats a 7i77x2 then that expected (0.2 is the expansion channel on the first (P2) 7I77)
04:34 PM pcw-home: 7I77 sserial channels are Field I/O, Analog, Expansion. Always in sequence on my bitfiles
04:35 PM pcw-home: 7I76 sserial channels are Field I/O, Expansion, again always in sequence
04:35 PM JT-Cave: 7i92T + 7i77 on P2 https://pastebin.com/z8YkNhVJ
04:35 PM XXCoder: jt lol forgot z mode
04:36 PM pcw-home: Thats correct P2 7I77 has 0 = Field IO, 1= analog, 2 = expansion
04:37 PM JT-Cave: but on P1 it's 3 for Field IO
04:37 PM JT-Cave: https://pastebin.com/HhJu0ZQV
04:37 PM pcw-home: yes, the next available sserial channel (0,1,2 being on P2)
04:38 PM JT-Cave: ah ok I get it now the 7i76 only uses 2 and the 7i77 uses 3
04:38 PM pcw-home: yes
04:38 PM JT-Cave: thanks
04:38 PM * JT-Cave puts his hair back with super glue
04:39 PM pcw-home: on the 7I96/7I96S it gets a bit weird beacseu the 7I96S expansion channel is typically moved to the end of the line so normal 7I76/7I77 configs will work
04:40 PM JT-Cave: configs from a 7i92 or 5i25?
04:41 PM pcw-home: I think mesaflash --readhmid --dbname1 7i77 may help
04:41 PM JT-Cave: ok
04:41 PM pcw-home: I think the 7I92/7I92T/5I25/5I25T configs are all basically the same
04:42 PM JT-Cave: that's what I was thinking
04:42 PM pcw-home: no reason to change anything in the pinout files
04:44 PM pcw-home: First hot day here today, we had about a 5 month spring
04:50 PM JT-Cave: we got a 1/4" then a bit later got 3/4" it's so dry here or was
04:52 PM pcw-home: We really never get significant rain for about 8-9 months of the year
04:55 PM JT-Cave: https://www.amazon.com/HP-800-G1-Performance-Professional/dp/B07NL4CT8L interesting this has a serial port
04:55 PM Unterhausen: JT do I run mesact from the source directory?
04:55 PM JT-Cave: might be a good backup for the bp mill
04:56 PM pcw-home: I have the tiny one (no slots)
04:56 PM JT-Cave: yes like any linux executable file it's ./mesact
04:56 PM JT-Cave: note: if you install it it over writes mesact
04:56 PM JT-Cave: I didn't see that one
04:57 PM Unterhausen: is there an install script?
04:57 PM JT-Cave: no, when I build a deb you use gdebi to install it
04:57 PM JT-Cave: I can build a deb if you like
04:57 PM Unterhausen: I get an error when I run mesact
04:57 PM JT-Cave: pastebin
05:00 PM Unterhausen: https://pastebin.com/qtwY3As4
05:01 PM JT-Cave: aye dependencies are not installed if you run it only if you install a deb
05:01 PM JT-Cave: Depenencies
05:01 PM JT-Cave: sudo apt install python3-pyqt5
05:01 PM JT-Cave: sudo apt install python3-packaging
05:02 PM Unterhausen: thanks
05:02 PM JT-Cave: any time
05:03 PM Unterhausen: does it detect I have a 7i96?
05:04 PM Unterhausen: tried to open a config on your computer
05:06 PM JT-Cave: aye the shortcuts are just for me for testing
05:07 PM JT-Cave: if you select a 7i96 and the address you can use the Check button to verify that communications are correct
05:07 PM Unterhausen: that worked
05:10 PM JT-Cave: you should find the GUI interface much better than the first one "I hope"
05:11 PM JT-Cave: the "Testing" group box is for making configs to test with real fast
05:11 PM CAKESLOB: Unterhausen going to allentown nexr week, whats this place likle
05:12 PM Unterhausen: Allentown is a bit depressing, tbh
05:12 PM CAKESLOB: hahah
05:12 PM CAKESLOB: ahh ok
05:12 PM Unterhausen: you can go over to bethlehem and visit the wreckage of all the old steel mills
05:13 PM CAKESLOB: so it will look like where I live (canadas pittsberg)
05:13 PM Unterhausen: I guess you never listened to Billy Joel
05:13 PM CAKESLOB: no not really
05:13 PM Unterhausen: lucky
05:14 PM CAKESLOB: bill burr tickets were like $35 in allentown,
05:15 PM CAKESLOB: so i guess roadtrip 6 hour drive
05:16 PM Unterhausen: you are going just to see Bill Burr?
05:17 PM Unterhausen: tell him ahead of time and he'll spend the whole show making fun of you
05:17 PM CAKESLOB: i want him to get angry at the crowd like that show in pittsberg
05:20 PM Unterhausen: I would drive 3 hours and 27 minutes to watch James Acaster
05:23 PM CAKESLOB: thats very specific. ive never seen him before
05:23 PM CAKESLOB: im not even super into burr, i like chappelle more, but my mom wanted to go
05:32 PM Unterhausen: wave as you drive by
05:34 PM Unterhausen: I have google maps set to bike, I was wondering why it was going to take you 40 hours
05:43 PM CAKESLOB: not biking this time, so from hamilton it will be 6.5hours
05:44 PM CAKESLOB: ohhhh shit yes, ill be driving past white haven
05:44 PM CAKESLOB: i forgot it was a real place
