01:15 AM Deejay: moin
03:44 AM Rengo[m] is now known as commreteris0[m]
04:43 AM travis_farmer[m4: Morning ☕️
04:46 AM JT-Cave: morning
04:50 AM Tom_L: morning
05:40 AM JT-Cave: rooster just crowed
06:05 AM travis_farmer[m4: interesting bit of useless trivia: the air pressure on Venus is 90 times higher than on earth... earth is about 14psi (sea-level), so that comes out to about 1260psi on Venus! but you would not feel the crushing air pressure, as the temperature is around 900F... ;-)
07:28 AM CloudEvil: travis_farmer[m4: you can literally skydive down to a safe landing with no chute on venus.
07:28 AM CloudEvil: (neglecting the whole temperature and CO2 thing)
07:46 AM * JT-Cave starts his chicken day
07:48 AM travis_farmer[m4: if i was to take that literally, JT, i can picture you clucking around the yard ;-)
08:09 AM martinb26840[m] is now known as derblaumann0[m]
08:09 AM Jymmmmmmm: Morning folks
08:32 AM Fianna[m]: Hey guys, sorry in advance I assume this has been asked to death, but can someone reccomend a flow for checking pin assignments?
08:32 AM Fianna[m]: I've got a 7i76e + 7i78, flashed firmware with mesaflash and got a baseline configuration with pncconf, its outputting steps/dirs okay but not picking up digital input from the TB6 pins (set up with pncconf) according to the Halslope anyway. What's the best flow for debugging this? In my head I'm thinking 1; check fpga pin inputs first then check they're mapped to the right parameter (I think that's HAL thay does the mapping?) Is there a
08:32 AM Fianna[m]: Halslope equivalent for looking at 'raw pin' states on the fpga or should I go about debugging a different way?
08:32 AM Fianna[m]: Also, I think I need to manually modify the ini/hal to add the 7i78 pins - where do I find the pin mapping from 7i78 physical pins to 7i76e expansion port pins? Presumably again its the HAL file that will then map those onto limit switches/encoders parameters etc?
08:33 AM Fianna[m] is now known as fianna_noob0[m]
08:39 AM Jymmmmmmm: fianna_noob0[m] Till someone that knows what they are doing respond, maybe check this out?  https://linuxcnc.org/docs/html/hal/tools.html
08:47 AM fianna_noob0[m]: I'm using the Halshow to monitor the home switches but it's not changing state, so I'm looking to get the same functionality (the red/yellow traffic light thing) if possible but for raw pin states rather than "x home maximum" or whatever it gets translated into
08:49 AM fianna_noob0[m]: Just copped that's a bot 🙈
08:50 AM travis_farmer[m4: it was a human
08:50 AM JT-Cave: do you see the 7i78 pins in show hal configuration in Axis?
08:55 AM * JT-Cave goes to check on break fast
08:55 AM * JT-Cave waves at Jymmmmmmm
08:57 AM * travis_farmer[m4 goes back to browsing eBay for stuff he can't afford...
09:01 AM Jymmmmmmm: JT-Cave breakfast sounds goood right about now, Been up since 2am
09:02 AM Jymmmmmmm: travis_farmer[m4 Human, alien from another planet in a human suit, same thing
09:02 AM travis_farmer[m4: lol
09:37 AM fianna_noob0[m]: Hah sorry it looks like discord is showing everyone as a bot for me🤷🏻‍♂️
09:37 AM Tom_L: that's an irc thing
09:37 AM Jymmmmmmm: fianna_noob0[m] what discord server?
09:38 AM Jymmmmmmm: hi Tom
09:38 AM Tom_L: hi Jymmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
09:39 AM Jymmmmmmm: Ugh, scared myself for a moment seeing a directory being empty
09:39 AM Tom_L: you just created it? :)
09:40 AM Jymmmmmmm: I have been moving/copying 350GB VM files, and forgot the a deleted the test img, but forgot to delete the tiny (2KB) congif files
10:09 AM JT-Shop: it's hot today good thing the humidity is only 62% or the heat index would be way high instead of the current 101°F
10:12 AM Jymmmmmmm: Suppose to be 105F and 11% here today
10:26 AM Scopeuk: Looks like fianna_noob0[m] is using matrix, IRC is bridged to matrix likely via a bot which might explain it
10:30 AM JT-Cave: ok things are looking up now I found my spare c270hd
10:37 AM JT-Shop: now to figure out how to view it from another pc on the LAN
10:38 AM Tom_L: win or linux?
10:38 AM JT-Shop: linux
10:38 AM JT-Shop: debian
10:38 AM Tom_L: just go thru the network, it should ask for a password
10:38 AM JT-Shop: ssh?
10:39 AM Tom_L: oh wait.. mine are on the same pc
10:39 AM Tom_L: linux -> win
10:39 AM Tom_L: you can still try the network and mount it
10:42 AM JT-Shop: hmm I can stream it to a web page... did that for the egg camera
10:50 AM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
10:52 AM Unterhausen: discord hates my alt account for some reason
10:54 AM Unterhausen: tried to log in with it and it says "the resource is being rate limited" Unlimited hate
11:04 AM Unterhausen: thanks to XX for telling me how to ghost myself when comcast disconnects us for the 10th time a day
11:05 AM Tom_L: JT-Shop, use filezilla
11:06 AM Tom_L: or on windows, winscp
11:16 AM JT-Shop: vlc is working to stream the video and to view it from another pc
11:16 AM JT-Shop: https://elementztechblog.wordpress.com/2015/03/12/streaming-camera-over-lan-in-linux-raspberrypi-or-beaglebone/
11:20 AM Tom_L: ok
11:26 AM Jymmmmmmm: I like VLC, and the command line has zillion of options/features.
12:33 PM roycroft: i should get back to the fair site to work on our booth today, but i think i'm going to make some bow ties with the shaper origin this morning first
12:34 PM roycroft: i need to get the countertop made for the fair anyway, so i'm doing booth work no matter what
12:34 PM roycroft: and it would be nice, having had an origin for over a week now, to make my first chips with it
01:38 PM JT-Shop: hmm heat index is up to 107°F now
01:41 PM Tom_L: i think we had that yesterday
01:41 PM Tom_L: in the 90's today
01:41 PM Tom_L: thermo said 101 yesterday
01:42 PM Tom_L: wed is supposed to be 103
01:45 PM Tom_L: so they quit making my mower and now the replacement parts are briggs which sad to say are crap
01:46 PM Tom_L: bearing seized up on the drive shaft after a couple seasons and prior to that lasted 35+ yrs
01:46 PM Tom_L: that radius'd bearing was looking for
01:47 PM Tom_L: so 2nd time in 2 yrs i did the same repair
01:47 PM JT-Shop: drive shaft for the deck?
01:47 PM Tom_L: push mower
01:47 PM Tom_L: powers the rear wheels
01:47 PM Tom_L: and a kawasaki engine
01:48 PM Tom_L: which still runs great. i did replace the carb once
01:49 PM Tom_L: the bearing seized which caused the 2 mating parts to wear beyond use
01:50 PM JT-Shop: the kind with little gears driving the wheels?
01:50 PM Tom_L: belt
01:52 PM Tom_L: https://cdn.datamanager.arinet.com/image/BRG/7212dd6c-1535-40a1-a2b5-8cddc83f0edd
01:52 PM Tom_L: 13 - 17 replaced
01:53 PM JT-Shop: looks complicated lol
01:53 PM Tom_L: it wasn't that much but still frustrating
01:53 PM Tom_L: parts exploded view makes it look that way but it's pretty simple
01:54 PM Tom_L: my local parts guy stocks it all so it was up and going same day
01:54 PM JT-Shop: nice
01:55 PM Tom_L: beats getting a crap mower every other year
01:55 PM JT-Shop: yup
01:56 PM Tom_L: i just need to find a source for a better bearing
01:57 PM Tom_L: 1 x .375 x .3125
01:57 PM Tom_L: with a radius'd OD
01:57 PM Tom_L: but for now it's going
01:58 PM JT-Shop: radius because it's self aligning?
01:58 PM roycroft: the on-tool design tool for the origin really sucks - i have no idea why shaper push it so much
01:59 PM Tom_L: probably. that or the shaft may move a tiny bit when you change speeds
01:59 PM Tom_L: the other end is open (no bearing)
01:59 PM JT-Shop: did you look at mcmaster
02:00 PM Tom_L: no not yet
02:07 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://vxb.com/collections/all carries lots of oddballs
02:08 PM Tom_L: yeah i'm looking there
02:09 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://thebigbearingstore.com/special-ag-bearings/
02:10 PM JT-Shop: https://www.husqvarna.com/us/robotic-lawn-mowers/
02:10 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://thebigbearingstore.com/disc-harrow-bearings/
02:44 PM Tom_L: Stens 230-106
02:53 PM roycroft: this is really frustrating
02:53 PM roycroft: no matter how i create an svg file, the origin thinks it's a collection of lines, and not a single object, and i cannot cut it
02:54 PM roycroft: i've tried creating the drawing in autocad and solidworks, exported to both eps and ai, and imported in both illustrator and inkscape
02:54 PM roycroft: in all cases, the exported svg file is not read as a single object by the origin
02:55 PM roycroft: i wonder if qcad can save as svg
02:56 PM roycroft: yes - it can do svg exports
02:57 PM JT-Woodshop: awesome I can watch my laser from here on vcl and it's totally enclosed
02:58 PM rmu: roycroft: do you know pstoedit
02:58 PM roycroft: no
02:59 PM roycroft: this is my object, as an svg path:
02:59 PM roycroft: <path class="cls-1" d="m0,0v113.04M361.44,0v113.04M0,0l180.72,45.36M0,113.04l180.72-45.12M361.44,0l-180.72,45.36m180.72,67.68l-180.72-45.12"/>
02:59 PM roycroft: <path class="cls-1" d="m0,0v113.04M361.44,0v113.04M0,0l180.72,45.36M0,113.04l180.72-45.12M361.44,0l-180.72,45.36m180.72,67.68l-180.72-45.12"/>
02:59 PM roycroft: ack, sorry - i only meant to paste that once
02:59 PM roycroft: but that looks like a single path to me
03:00 PM rmu: pstoedit can convert EPS and PS files to SVG and other "editable" formats
03:00 PM roycroft: i'll check it out
03:01 PM roycroft: pstoedit - PostScript and PDF files to editable vector graphics converter
03:01 PM roycroft: looks like it's a standard debian package
03:03 PM roycroft: or maybe not
03:07 PM roycroft: i hope i don't run out of disk on the machine i'm installing it on, as it installs the hundred of depencencies first
03:15 PM roycroft: the origin won't even load the svg that pstoedit generates
03:16 PM JT-Shop: hmm going to need some light in the enclosure it seems
03:16 PM roycroft: many folks bling up their laser enclosures with led strip lights inside
03:17 PM roycroft: you need it for a camera?
03:28 PM JT-Shop: yup, it's a bit dark without some light
03:29 PM JT-Shop: I figure a camera is the safe way to watch it burn
03:30 PM roycroft: i'm going to have to deal with that, myself
03:30 PM roycroft: because the laser is not going to live in a room where i normally work
03:30 PM roycroft: and i do not feel uncomfortable leaving it to run unmonitored
03:33 PM * JT[m] uploaded an image: (165KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/sRiXMwCFNoFbDFbGZKyEPhNF/20230625_150931.jpg >

03:33 PM JT-Shop: test enclosure and camera shot
03:39 PM * travis_farmer[m4 has returned from a nice family BBQ :-)
03:42 PM travis_farmer[m4: interesting concept for an enclosure, JT. even i could afford some cardboard to shield me from my machine. then i would need a camera to monitor... does it need to be a special camera for high UV, or...
03:43 PM roycroft: a $5 webcam from the goodwill should suffice
03:43 PM travis_farmer[m4: i have a webcam already, i just wanted to know if it needed a UV filter. apparently not :-)
03:43 PM roycroft: the laser might put its eye out
03:44 PM roycroft: but as long as it doesn't put your eye out ...
03:44 PM roycroft: seriously, people use random webcams all the time for that
03:44 PM travis_farmer[m4: hmmm, it was a nice camera... maybe a different "cheaper" camera ;-)
03:44 PM roycroft: so i don't think it's an issue
03:44 PM travis_farmer[m4: ok
03:45 PM * roycroft is getting absolutely nowhere with generating svg files that the origin linkes
03:45 PM roycroft: likes
03:45 PM roycroft: i was anticipating a bit of frustration with this part, but not this much frustration
03:46 PM roycroft: i suspect shaper really really really want me to subscribe to their own software, which is web-based and rentalware
03:47 PM * travis_farmer[m4 hates rentalware...
03:47 PM roycroft: me too
03:47 PM roycroft: it's $99/year
03:47 PM roycroft: i'd pay $500 one-time if it was a permanent license (and it did what i need)
03:48 PM travis_farmer[m4: dang, that's not rental, that's a morgage!
03:51 PM roycroft: i'd really rather just use tools that i already have
03:51 PM roycroft: i've had no problems generating svg files for my vinyl cutter and my laser engraver/cutter using tools i already have
03:53 PM travis_farmer[m4: everything has a learning curve. i have faith you will figure it out. :-)
03:58 PM roycroft: yeah, i just did, actually
03:58 PM roycroft: i've been reading that i should import the eps file from autocad into illustrator, and then export as svg
03:59 PM roycroft: that does not work
03:59 PM perry_j1987: afternoon
03:59 PM roycroft: but importing into illustrating and then saving as svg, as opposed to exporting to svg, seems to work
03:59 PM travis_farmer[m4: see, that's why i had faith in you :-)
03:59 PM roycroft: i'm about to eat lunch, but after lunch i should be cutting bow ties
04:01 PM roycroft: the moral of the story is: even though the internet is always right, do not believe the internet
04:04 PM travis_farmer[m4: i always believe the internet... internet is all-powerful... :-)
04:04 PM Tom_L: as long as you have your internet filter on it works fair
04:04 PM * JT[m] uploaded an image: (267KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/BpvEFpCcuwqHCdPxZGocFtqd/20230625_160339.jpg >
04:05 PM * JT-Shop feels better about watching the laser on another pc in the other shop
04:15 PM Unterhausen: the linear encoder on the cross slide of my lathe has repeatability issues. Wonder what I did wrong
04:15 PM Unterhausen: probably forgot to tighten the bolts holding it on
04:55 PM JT-Woodshop: if I leave the enclosure closed up for a few minutes the smoke settles out instead of filling the shop
05:05 PM roycroft: https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/WhnIMmmnXIiLxtcBBI
05:05 PM roycroft: ack
05:05 PM roycroft: not that
05:05 PM roycroft: https://roycroft.us/BowTies/BowTies1.jpeg
05:05 PM roycroft: butthat
05:06 PM roycroft: the first test cuts worked out great
05:06 PM roycroft: the cutter only retracted twice because i went off-path
05:06 PM roycroft: and i spaced the middle right and lower right bow ties a wee bit too close to each other - the upper left corner of the lower one clipped the middle one a wee bit
05:07 PM roycroft: but i can install that one on the bottom of the countertop, where it won't be seen
05:07 PM roycroft: i have to leave for a board meeting now, but when i get back i'll start inlaying them in the countertop
05:08 PM roycroft: it took me about 15 minutes to cut all of those, using a 1/8" cutter, and a 1/8" depth of cut per pass
05:08 PM roycroft: i did four passes with a 0.13" offset, then a final pass with a 0 offset
05:09 PM roycroft: er, 0.013" offset
05:09 PM roycroft: anyway, so far the origin is behaving exactly as i expected it would
05:10 PM JT-Woodshop: nice
05:11 PM * roycroft likes it when things work as advertised, especially expensive things
05:37 PM JT-Shop: the heat index has made me not want to wash a car
06:04 PM solarwind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VD1tRQHtj-w
06:05 PM solarwind: Install the dislike button browser extension to see the like:dislike ratio. Videos like this leave me speechless
06:33 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I put sliced cheeses in mine
06:39 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHBL28xD6_k&t=46s
07:02 PM Unterhausen: sure enough, there were 4 bolts loose on my encoder setup
07:03 PM XXCoder: roycroft: not bad. I see one inclusion but thats it
07:49 PM CAKESLOB: solarwind I watched that video because I like being pissed off
07:50 PM CAKESLOB: and pos youtube removing the dislike count is total bs
07:50 PM CAKESLOB: the only people who want the dislike count removed are clickbait shit users
07:50 PM XXCoder: lots of money in dangerous "diys"
09:00 PM mrec: just be sure to have a suitable contract
09:00 PM mrec: eg. when making playstation submarines
09:00 PM XXCoder: many miliary stuff uses gamer gamepads
09:01 PM XXCoder: so its nothing new on that. its not the problem for that sub. there was plenty other problems.
09:01 PM mrec: fishfood factory
09:03 PM mrec: actually it seems like that the gamepad was a problem, they crashed into the screw earlier it seems
09:03 PM mrec: too inaccurate for them
09:03 PM mrec: but yes connected with many other issues
09:04 PM XXCoder: so they hit a screw, started to rise then turned into derbis with implosion?
09:04 PM XXCoder: saw few article that literally focus on controller only. annoyed me
09:06 PM XXCoder: interesting. reclaiming files by resharping them by chemical https://youtu.be/3Brt_UNlFUw
11:23 PM roycroft: there's nothing like testing out a new tool on a production part, with no time to remake it if something goes wrong
11:24 PM XXCoder: oh boy
11:35 PM * roycroft likes to walk on the wild side
11:35 PM roycroft: no calamity
11:35 PM XXCoder: YOLO
11:35 PM roycroft: but there is definitely a learning curve to the orign
11:35 PM roycroft: and i was wise and started on the underside of the counter, that won't be seen
11:35 PM roycroft: i was being "frugal" with the shaper tape, as i try to be with all consumables like that
