12:41 AM travis_farmer[m4: Morning ☕️
01:04 AM _discord_2157018 is now known as ez70900[m]
03:24 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
03:30 AM travis_farmer[m4: seems to be a lot of people joining and leaving and joining and leaving... must be the bridges are under construction ;-)
03:30 AM XXCoder: no
03:30 AM XXCoder: people is changing login nicks
03:31 AM XXCoder: discord is removing discrimator number
03:31 AM travis_farmer[m4: ahh, that's right
03:31 AM XXCoder: you probably saw my discord nick in here leave and rejoin at some time ago
03:32 AM travis_farmer[m4: mostly just JT right now ;-)
03:32 AM XXCoder: jt isnt on discord
03:32 AM XXCoder: hes on matrix and irc
03:33 AM travis_farmer[m4: well, whatever the case, his nick is coming and going. maybe he is having network issues
03:34 AM XXCoder: irc side its nothing to do with bridge
03:36 AM travis_farmer[m4: Hmmm, browsing eBay... looks like all the "good" LED signal stack lights seem to come from china... not much options from USA...
03:37 AM XXCoder: theres usa ones certainly but expensivbe
03:37 AM XXCoder: hundreds of dollar for one if I recll right?
03:37 AM travis_farmer[m4: this may be my best option https://www.adafruit.com/product/2993
03:39 AM XXCoder: not bad
03:39 AM XXCoder: not too expensive
03:39 AM travis_farmer[m4: wish it had a blue light for signaling "Laser On"
03:41 AM travis_farmer[m4: found this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/333238146338 but i am kinda boycotting china at the moment
03:42 AM XXCoder: many of stacks you can buy modules
03:42 AM XXCoder: try look at adafruit if they sell blue ones too
03:43 AM XXCoder: well you could also use 3d printer if you has one to print the blue outside
03:44 AM XXCoder: buy 2 of those stack lights and make 4 light stack out of it, and print blue tube
03:44 AM travis_farmer[m4: Hmm, possibly. don't have the money right now, just researching my options
03:45 AM Loetmichel: Buy a white module and change the LEDs inside to blue?
03:45 AM XXCoder: I couldnt find any white option at adafruit
03:45 AM XXCoder: only that 3 color one
03:46 AM XXCoder: travis_farmer[m4: can do halfway, buy adafruit one, and buy one module from local ship china
03:46 AM travis_farmer[m4: yeah, that's all i found there
03:46 AM XXCoder: only few bucks for one module I thinjk
03:46 AM travis_farmer[m4: i suspect the adafruit one is not modular, but a single unit of three
03:47 AM XXCoder: should be modular but maybe check youtube for reviews or whatever
03:47 AM travis_farmer[m4: yeah
03:48 AM XXCoder: oh hey have video
03:48 AM XXCoder: doesnt show disassemble
03:49 AM travis_farmer[m4: i have a bunch of these: https://www.adafruit.com/product/1734 from another project... i wonder if i could just make a multi-color single lamp...
03:50 AM travis_farmer[m4: they are digitally color-assignable RGB LEDs
03:51 AM XXCoder: https://www.adafruit.com/product/2994 im prety sure is same thing
03:51 AM XXCoder: just single rather than 3
03:52 AM travis_farmer[m4: a NEOPIXEL is not a regular LED. it uses a sort of serial communication to assign RGB color
03:53 AM travis_farmer[m4: just thinking, because i already have some of those...
03:53 AM XXCoder: I know. just showing that there is options
03:53 AM travis_farmer[m4: yeah, i know
03:53 AM XXCoder: checked amazon
03:53 AM XXCoder: prices lol
03:54 AM XXCoder: random names too. latest trend for amazon
03:57 AM travis_farmer[m4: https://www.amazon.com/LUBAN-Industrial-Rotatable-Flashing-Switchable/dp/B09X1433BD an option...
03:57 AM XXCoder: is luban one of those lolrandom names?
03:57 AM XXCoder: but yeah thats good one
03:58 AM XXCoder: very much stackable as picture shows
03:58 AM travis_farmer[m4: yeah, but amazon doesn't take paypal, so i have to wait for some money to come in ;-)
03:59 AM XXCoder: actually maybe not. not sure if boards is disconnectable or not. anyway its plenty
03:59 AM XXCoder: products listing forn luban is extremely randpm lol
04:00 AM travis_farmer[m4: lol
04:00 AM travis_farmer[m4: probably a china importer
04:23 AM XXCoder: $2400/mwh in texas. jeez
04:23 AM XXCoder: id have installed solar panels and wind power
04:24 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:24 AM XXCoder: get rid of texan power problems
04:25 AM travis_farmer[m4: i think the texas power problems are mostly self-made, mismanagement, etc..
04:25 AM XXCoder: and refusal to do some planning, like oil stocks, heating units for windmills, etc
04:26 AM travis_farmer[m4: yup
04:29 AM Tom_L: morning
04:29 AM Tom_L: aren't they on their own grid?
04:30 AM XXCoder: they are
04:30 AM XXCoder: and pretty ill-regulated
04:40 AM Scopeuk: it's worse than ill regulated, it's de-regulated these issues were delt with and then deliberately re-introduced
04:42 AM wenndemann[m] is now known as wenndemann0[m]
05:51 AM JT-Cave1: morning
06:07 AM CloudEvil: Morn
06:12 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
06:12 AM * JT-Cave over slept
07:22 AM alex_joni: howdy all
07:23 AM JT-Cave: hey alex_joni \
07:57 AM alex_joni: hey JT, all good?
08:04 AM skunkworks[m]: alex_joni: Hello! how are you doing?
08:53 AM JT-Cave: alex_joni, yes all is good... just getting older and trying to retire somewhat
09:56 AM roycroft: happy mid-summer!
09:57 AM Paule[m] is now known as paule020[m]
09:59 AM alex_joni: skunkworks[m]: hey! pretty good, but really busy
09:59 AM alex_joni: JT-Cave: sounds good, you earned it
10:03 AM skunkworks: alex_joni: how old is your boy now?
10:17 AM JT-Shop: alex_joni, thanks
12:34 PM JT-Shop: final printing of the honeycomb locators... I hope
12:46 PM roycroft: nice
12:47 PM * JT-Shop wanders over to the other shop to make a new top for the rock separator
12:47 PM JT-Shop: making the sides that grip the honeycomb longer and 3mm higher so they are the same height as the rubber thingys
12:47 PM roycroft: i am waiting for some bessey clamp couplers to arrive
12:48 PM roycroft: my slabs are flat on one side, jointed, and domino slots cut
12:48 PM JT-Shop: my daughter is arriving from Texas today for a short visit
12:48 PM roycroft: but my clamps are not long enough to suck them together
12:48 PM JT-Shop: what are you making
12:48 PM roycroft: the couplers should arrive tomorrow, but they're from home depot, so i don't know about that
12:48 PM roycroft: i'm making a merchandise counter for our booth at the country fair
12:48 PM * travis_farmer[m4 gave away a bunch of scrap metal for my cousin to take to a scrapper to get some money. he needs the money more than i do. :-)
12:49 PM roycroft: i need to join two birch slabs together end to end
12:49 PM roycroft: i don't know if you saw my slab flattening pics yesterday
12:50 PM JT-Shop: no, I missed them
12:50 PM roycroft: https://roycroft.us/Slabbing/Slabbing1.jpeg
12:50 PM roycroft: https://roycroft.us/Slabbing/Slabbing2.jpeg
12:50 PM roycroft: https://roycroft.us/Slabbing/Slabbing3.jpeg
12:51 PM skunkworks[m]: Levels for strait adges - nice
12:51 PM roycroft: i made lots of little wood chips over the past couple days
12:51 PM skunkworks[m]: edges
12:51 PM roycroft: skunkworks: they were a little pricey, but about the cheapest thing i could find that was the right size and not prone to warping or twisting
12:51 PM JT-Shop: now that's using your head for more than a hat rack
12:51 PM JT-Shop: mean looking cutter :)
12:51 PM roycroft: it was a $20 ebay special
12:51 PM roycroft: but it worked brilliantly, once i got the feeds and speeds dialed in
12:52 PM roycroft: 14k rpm, passes of 0.5mm, and i could go pretty fast
12:52 PM roycroft: when i tried deeper cuts it slowed things down to the point that i was burning the wood
12:52 PM roycroft: it was way faster to take shallow cuts
12:53 PM roycroft: once the two slabs are joined together i'll flip them over and flatten the other side, but that should go pretty fast
12:54 PM roycroft: skunkworks: my workbench is 78" long
12:54 PM roycroft: i found some levels at lowe's that were 78" long
12:54 PM roycroft: i've no idea how that worked out so well
12:59 PM roycroft: that router is working out really nicely, btw
12:59 PM roycroft: it's not really any more powerful than my porter-cable 7518, but the pc is not a plunge router, and it's hard to dial in cutting depth with it
01:00 PM roycroft: the dial on top of the vertical cylinder on the festool is a micro-adjuster, and i can adjust depth in 0.1mm increments, which is fine for woodworking
01:11 PM Unterhausen: they actually steered that sub with a game controller. Maybe the batteries ran out
01:11 PM travis_farmer[m4: i wonder if they used an Arduino for the master computer...
01:13 PM Unterhausen: it was a playstation clone, but it was used just like a video game
01:14 PM Unterhausen: not even as respectable as an arduino
01:20 PM Unterhausen: the guy in charge of the sub company is whining mightily that the U.S. coast guard hasn't rescued the sub yet
01:21 PM travis_farmer[m4: i thought subs were supposed to have a "ping" transponder, in case they get lost...
01:24 PM Unterhausen: according to news stories, they may have a "bang on the hull and hope someone hears you in the vast void of the sea" transponder
01:24 PM travis_farmer[m4: Hmm...
01:25 PM Unterhausen: I'm not sure I believe that, but there is a widely distributed news story to that effect
01:28 PM norias: yeah, i read the hull is carbon fiber
01:28 PM norias: which seems less useful to bang on than steel
01:29 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: My favorite thing is that they made the tubular pressure hull out of carbon fiber. Which would be great if the pressure was inside the sub. Less great in compression.
01:30 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: I am glad the CEO that thought "move fast and break things" applied to DSVs was in it so at least he put his life where his mouth was.
01:32 PM travis_farmer[m4: yeah, but there were other lives too...
01:36 PM KaiMo[m] is now known as kaimo33600[m]
02:07 PM Loetmichel: ZincBoy[CAON][m]: my beef with using CF in a DSV is more the failure mode of the stuff. everything is fine until you go a hair over spec and suddenly you have a bunch of splinters.
02:08 PM Loetmichel: no warning like with metals (groaning, bending)
02:13 PM roycroft: but you love calamities, loetmichel, and a surprise calamity is the best kind of all
02:16 PM * Loetmichel made his first drone completely out of CF. changed that to extruded aluminium from the hobby shop after the first few crashes. Simply too expensive/ too much to replace every time
02:17 PM XXCoder: Unterhausen: sea is very conductive to sound, but there should be auto pinger and audio modem to commucate
02:19 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: @Loetmichel, yes that is another issue. At least with a metal hull there are known inspection techniques and fatigue life estimates. With CF in compression the strength is in the epoxy and the carbon fibers are doing pretty much nothing. Best case it is about the same strength as A36 steel.
02:19 PM Loetmichel: XXCoder: IIRC those "auto pingers" even used a spring loaded mechanism instead of electrics in some applications. But are you sure someone that uses a n alibaba clone of a game controller for a steering device would invest in that?
02:20 PM XXCoder: logitech controller iirc but yeah I doubt it also. ceo didnt like being interrupted with sub status report requests so he removed voice commucation from sub also
02:21 PM XXCoder: list of problem is just so long
02:21 PM XXCoder: front window, they asked company to make it, butrefused to pay for 4000m rated one, so they made their own
02:21 PM Loetmichel: well, logitech is about as reliable as ali stuff. so fits.
02:21 PM XXCoder: rated is 1200m.
02:21 PM Loetmichel: but i meant: it wasnt even a "brand"
02:22 PM XXCoder: yeah
02:22 PM XXCoder: ther was whistleblower that told others about cf wrap flaws, but he was fired
02:23 PM XXCoder: seems company had gotten bunch of safety warnings, but they got around regulations by just launching outside usa seas
02:23 PM XXCoder: so yeah if I knew all those, I'd assume that its unsafe to enter while on land, let alone ride into sea
02:24 PM XXCoder: I havent read news yet, so I guess they wasnt found yet, or saved yet?
02:25 PM Loetmichel: I mean: i did the same (used a clone 1 mini stick controller to steer/drive my wifes electric wheelchair after i upgraded it with 2 2kW motors. But i had a backup (two bicycle brakes with a single handle that can lock, fully mechanic)
02:25 PM Loetmichel: and that was a wheelchair, not a DSV
02:46 PM Unterhausen: but did you ever brag about how safety was just a dead loss?
02:47 PM XXCoder: loet that just makes sense.
02:47 PM XXCoder: one that made me cringe a little is the method they designed to drop ballasts
02:47 PM XXCoder: they lean to one side of sub so it tips and drops ballast
02:47 PM XXCoder: what if theyre on floor?
02:48 PM XXCoder: I doubt they added any method to drop ballast in that case as they dont seem to add any backups
02:50 PM Unterhausen: someone would have to get out of the boat
02:53 PM XXCoder: sure somehow unbolt door from outside while inside
02:53 PM XXCoder: thats only way to open.
03:04 PM Unterhausen: I updated my windows computer yesterday and now my visual studio project is "not compatible"
03:07 PM Unterhausen: simple fix, just reload project. Weird that they couldn't do it, but it's microsoft
03:21 PM PasstScho[m] is now known as passtscho0[m]
04:09 PM Centurion_Dan1 is now known as Centurion_Dan
04:25 PM skunkworks[m]: fun
04:50 PM Centurion_Dan1 is now known as Centurion_Dan
05:08 PM JT-Shop: honeycomb is solid now with the longer locators
05:11 PM XXCoder: nice. you plan to add locating edges or?
05:16 PM Tom_L: do you have a system figured out to locate the stock so it's centered?
05:21 PM roycroft: shaper are shipping me a new origin
05:21 PM Tom_L: yay
05:21 PM roycroft: they're not even asking for the old one back first
05:22 PM XXCoder: so playing with shaper sensor didnt fix it?
05:22 PM roycroft: no
05:22 PM Tom_L: sure did! got him a new origin
05:24 PM roycroft: not yet, but soon
05:24 PM roycroft: and hopefully it will ship today or tomorrow
05:25 PM roycroft: because i'll be gone the first week of july, and don't want a box sitting outside my front door for several days
05:59 PM Unterhausen: was it a refurb?
06:01 PM XXCoder: still want that printer?
06:02 PM roycroft: if you're talking to me, unterhausen, yes
06:02 PM roycroft: i bought a refurb and it will be replaced with a refurb
06:02 PM Unterhausen: okay, thanks. Guess they didn't fully fix it
06:02 PM roycroft: they did not attempt to repair it at all - i still have the original one
06:03 PM roycroft: but yeah, when they "refurbed" it they likely did not test that functionality
06:03 PM roycroft: the origin looks brand new, so it was likely a dealer demo model or a customer return
06:04 PM roycroft: and if you are talking to me, xxcoder, i'm interested in that printer, but i don't know when i'll be up your way next
06:04 PM XXCoder: yeah let me know
06:05 PM roycroft: i'd be happy to pay for shipping if you were willing to do that
06:05 PM roycroft: but not until after the fair
06:05 PM XXCoder: shipping would be no problem but just not up to packing it etc
06:05 PM * roycroft has too much going on already
06:05 PM roycroft: yes, i can understand that
06:06 PM roycroft: packing it securely might be a hassle
06:18 PM roycroft: festool released some new bluetooth noise-cancelling earbuds today that look promising
06:18 PM roycroft: they cost less than the apple ones, have better specs, and have gotten good reviews
06:19 PM roycroft: i have some 3m earmuffs with a built-in fm tuner that i use currently, but earbuds that are more effective and are bluetooth would be nice
06:19 PM roycroft: 13 hours of listening on a charge
06:50 PM Unterhausen: rabbit has a nest of babies in the most obvious place possible. But I think she found somewhere that the dogs can't go without tripping their collars
06:53 PM roycroft: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZTE9MDoaLs
06:54 PM XXCoder: reminds me of https://animationreview.files.wordpress.com/2014/08/walky-talky-hawky-c2a9-warner-brothers.jpg
06:55 PM XXCoder: lot of casual abuse by that chicken
08:25 PM Unterhausen: I wish wabbits were that smart
09:45 PM roycroft: wabbits know what's important in life - procreating and pooping
