12:03 AM mits5782[m]: Centos is basically all of the drawbacks of redhat with none of the benefits
01:31 AM Deejay: moin
01:49 AM travis_farmer: Morning :-)
02:35 AM TurBoss: Morning
02:59 AM mits5782[m]: Does anyone know what voltage a 7i95 can safely handle on the encoder inputs?
02:59 AM mits5782[m]: I've got a 10V pulse train that I want to read with it
03:00 AM mits5782[m]: I'm reading over the manual and not finding it... but of course I might be missing it
03:05 AM mits5782[m]: eh google and PCW forum posts imply 5V ok... I need some safety
04:16 AM jpa-: mits5782[m]: yeah, looks like 5V based on manual, even though it doesn't say explicitly
04:17 AM jpa-: the two isolated MPG encoder inputs can handle more if you use series resistor
04:18 AM jpa-: or apparently the isolated inputs handle up to +-36V even without external resistor
04:18 AM jpa-: they are slowish though
04:27 AM Tom_L: morning
04:38 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:38 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:38 AM JT-Shop: morning
04:45 AM JT-Cave: travis_farmer, now UPS has Your delivery has been rescheduled again for today
04:45 AM travis_farmer: lol, tell them to make up their mind ;-)
04:48 AM JT-Cave: I heard that
05:11 AM JT-Cave: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DQtnMm4c6k
05:15 AM mits5782[m]: I said that, I know I did
05:26 AM JT-Cave: well I got the invoice from Starrett for my #93 JAWS, SET so maybe they shipped them
05:27 AM * JT-Cave wonders why he gave the better #93a to the young gear head and kept the borked one
05:28 AM JT-Cave: hmm invoice says FedEx but no tracking number
05:36 AM travis_farmer: just had 3 small deer on the lawn :-)
05:37 AM JT-Cave: nice
05:37 AM JT-Cave: I love watching the deer
05:38 AM JT-Cave: rooster just crowed
05:38 AM travis_farmer: i didn't have time to grab my phone for a video, but they looked small to me. either yearlings or malnourished...
05:44 AM JT-Cave: I had one a few years ago that was so thin you could count his ribs... nursed it back to health and even medicated it once to rid it of ticks
05:47 AM Lcvette[m]: JT-Cave: you got the vette?
05:47 AM Lcvette[m]: had a ride in it yet?
05:47 AM JT-Cave: today
05:48 AM JT-Cave: no, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DQtnMm4c6k
05:48 AM JT-Cave: unloaded it yesterday
05:48 AM Lcvette[m]: bet you feel like a kid in a candy shop
05:48 AM JT-Cave: they had to do the PDI and swap the wheels out
05:48 AM Lcvette[m]: nice
05:48 AM JT-Cave: pretty much yeah
05:49 AM JT-Cave: I worked out a trade for my C5 yesterday so everything is falling in line
05:49 AM Lcvette[m]: i'm excited for you
05:49 AM Lcvette[m]: trade?
05:49 AM Lcvette[m]: mot outright sell?
05:49 AM JT-Cave: yup, I traded it in
05:50 AM Lcvette[m]: they give a fair price?
05:50 AM JT-Cave: I could have sold it but if it took more than 30 days I could not deduct it from the purchase price of the car for taxes
05:50 AM Lcvette[m]: i know for a while dealerships were offering premium money but was sure if that was the case still
05:50 AM JT-Cave: yep I got what I wanted]
05:51 AM Lcvette[m]: there ya go!
05:51 AM JT-Cave: I got a few k below market but they have to make money
05:52 AM Lcvette[m]: and no hassle selling on your own
05:52 AM Lcvette[m]: trade in is certainly convenient
05:52 AM JT-Cave: and no hassle making a spot for it in the big shop
05:57 AM JT-Cave: I got lucky with my truck and was able to sell both my van and rusty my truck within a couple of weeks so I could use the sales price to reduce taxes on the new truck
05:57 AM JT-Cave: the market for a C5 I think would be smaller than a van or truck
06:00 AM JT-Cave: it was pretty cool tracking the truck on the dealers computer even though it was about 15 minutes behind actual
07:00 AM * travis_farmer waits for it to warm up a bit more, before heading out to shop... 55F
07:00 AM JT-Cave: 55F is warm
07:00 AM travis_farmer: warm-ish ;-)
07:01 AM travis_farmer: hmm, only i high today of 57F, so it really isn't going to warm up more...
07:04 AM travis_farmer: checked my mesaus tracking number... said yesterday it would show up yesterday. now it says it will arrive today... we will see. maine tends to fail at Priority Mail, and treats it like standard mail :-(
07:04 AM JT-Cave: 64°F high 90°F
07:05 AM Tom_L: 62°F hi 86°F
07:06 AM JT-Cave: going to cool off a bit here with rain on Sunday
07:06 AM * travis_farmer heads out to shop to scrounge up a little trouble ;-)
07:26 AM * JT-Cave goes to start his chicken day
07:47 AM JT-Cave: roycroft, I've figured out how to do power scaling on a grid of objects but the option is not shown by default
08:10 AM perry_j1987: morning all
08:10 AM perry_j1987: ahh coffee
08:18 AM Deejay: afternoon
08:39 AM skunkworks[m]: https://www.cnczone.com/forums/controller-amp-computer-solutions/459502-cnc-software-4.html
08:40 AM skunkworks[m]: lol - I have not had a good argument in a while..
09:24 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
09:24 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
09:25 AM JT-Shop: Lcvette[m], just got a better offer for the C5 :)
09:44 AM Lcvette[m]: nice!
09:44 AM Lcvette[m]: someone here?
09:44 AM Lcvette[m]: or local?
09:55 AM travis_farmer: just had labs done at the hospital... hope my PSA comes back ok... (first one)
09:56 AM Lcvette[m]: how old?
09:56 AM travis_farmer: 43
09:57 AM Lcvette[m]: good time to start base lineing it
09:57 AM Lcvette[m]: s/lineing/lining/
09:58 AM Lcvette[m]: catching anything with prostate early is good as it is very manageable
09:58 AM travis_farmer: yeah, but there are "issues", so it has my paranoia levels high
09:58 AM Lcvette[m]: my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1995, and it was still under control when he passed in 2020, he passed from an unrelated illness
09:59 AM Lcvette[m]: ag 78
09:59 AM Lcvette[m]: * age 78
09:59 AM travis_farmer: hmmm...
09:59 AM Lcvette[m]: he had his prostate removed
09:59 AM Lcvette[m]: but now dsays there are better treatments
10:00 AM travis_farmer: i hope so, removing it can cause "issues" all by itself
10:02 AM Lcvette[m]: he had some mild incontinence, but he didn't catch the PSA result until the cancer had grown and the negative margins from the surgery were increased for safety which could have been avoided if he cauight it earlier
10:03 AM Lcvette[m]: either way good luck on the results!
10:05 AM travis_farmer: in other news, i started what i hope to be the final re-wire of my control cabinet. it was so hap-hazard, it was hard to debug or trace any wires. i hope to finally be rid of the rats nest of wires, in favor of something more managable.
10:06 AM skunkworks[m]: hap-hazard.. story of my life
10:06 AM JT-Shop: Lcvette[m], my dealer is not the one that has the corvettes but I'm their customer and my buddy was telling the sales manager about my trade in and the sales manager called me with a better offer to buy the car
10:07 AM travis_farmer: nice, JT :-)
11:33 AM * travis_farmer heads back out to the shop...
11:56 AM ithe2guu[m]: for linuxcnc 2.8.4, should i be using probe screen v1 or v2?
12:02 PM perry_j1987: im looking into that myself right now too
12:03 PM perry_j1987: i found this https://github.com/linuxcnc-probe-screen/probe-screen-ng
12:03 PM perry_j1987: says its specifically for linuxcnc 2.8
12:20 PM ithe2guu[m]: Nice, i did not see that one
12:40 PM * JT[m] uploaded an image: (222KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/nmOwOhoWxUuuxBazKNjKUJiE/20230607_124010.jpg >
12:43 PM skunkworks[m]: like a glove?
01:28 PM Tom_L: JT[m], that doesn't look black
01:28 PM Tom_L: steering looks alot like the 23 trucks
01:29 PM Tom_L: as far as the buttons
01:30 PM Scopeuk: What the heck is the tablet with a volum knob impaired through it doing
01:30 PM Scopeuk: Impailed**
01:37 PM * JT[m] uploaded an image: (417KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/oKLWsturokgQDrVWQvvFOKtE/20230607_133319.jpg >
02:14 PM skunkworks[m]: very cool
02:40 PM * JT[m] uploaded an image: (428KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/WfknEuoHlmPaszFYRrvXYmzT/20230607_143756.jpg >
02:42 PM perry_j1987: giving that probe screen a try now
02:42 PM * JT[m] uploaded an image: (389KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/BHSlZlpLuvlFshuRKdVEJTCH/20230607_144112.jpg >
02:49 PM perry_j1987: well its not working heh
02:50 PM perry_j1987: the screen loads up as new tab like it should axis fires up
02:50 PM perry_j1987: try probing and it hits e-stop and complains heh
03:13 PM perry_j1987: looks like the tool height setter part works
03:14 PM perry_j1987: but if i use the 3d touch probe it stops soon as it triggers and says something about not being able to move again until it comes out of estop mode
03:14 PM perry_j1987: i dont have that probe wired to e-stop lol
03:14 PM perry_j1987: what in the world...
03:45 PM JT-Shop: open a watch window and see what is getting triggered
03:52 PM jdh: I'm getting triggered.
04:24 PM XXCoder: roycroft: interesting. make it extreme guys used baby crawl mat or exercise mat thingy to make sections of foam for their chair using laser
04:24 PM XXCoder: then using laser to cut out leathers for making decal on chair
04:24 PM XXCoder: then the covering for rest of chair
04:25 PM roycroft: a pair of scissors is a lot cheaper :)
04:27 PM XXCoder: they also mixed epoxy without gloves. fun
04:28 PM XXCoder: while I love the channel, once a while they do risky thing tha makes me go "why?"
04:28 PM Unterhaus_: smoke from Canada is so bad here it smells like there is a large fire nearby
04:29 PM roycroft: 125 million us citizens are at risk from the canadian fire smoke
04:29 PM roycroft: pretty much the entire northeastern us and part of the nortwest
04:29 PM XXCoder: bleh sounds like I was too late on my filter fan project
04:30 PM Unterhaus_: bad asthma day, that's for sure
04:30 PM * travis_farmer can smell it...
04:30 PM roycroft: british columbia banned campfires and other open fires almost province-wide today
04:30 PM Unterhaus_: fires are banned in most of central Pennsylvania
04:30 PM roycroft: while i don't wish this on any of you folks back east, now you know what i go through every summer
04:31 PM XXCoder: yep smokey hellscope season isnt fun. expecially so for people with lung issues like me
04:31 PM XXCoder: https://youtu.be/uvjZY-Ep-As?t=551 at time of laser cutting stuff roy
04:31 PM roycroft: the orange/red sunrises (and sometimes sunsets) are pretty, though
04:31 PM XXCoder: so you can see what I mean by mats
04:32 PM roycroft: oh, those are anti-fatigue mats for shops and the like
04:34 PM XXCoder: ah yes one of uses
04:34 PM XXCoder: yeah. interesting idea to use those with laser cuts to use as line for chair
04:34 PM Kerr[m] is now known as kerr45920[m]
04:36 PM JT-Cave: roycroft, have you used shape properties in LightBurn?
04:36 PM roycroft: no
04:37 PM Unterhaus_: I'm not sure we are going to have a red sunset and there are no clouds
04:38 PM roycroft: i thought most of the fires in eastern canada were in the far east
04:38 PM roycroft: like new brunswick and quebec
04:43 PM roycroft: the 10-year average of wildfires by area in canada is 229,880ha
04:43 PM JT-Cave: it's how you can make a test card and each square can have a different power multiplier
04:43 PM JT-Cave: it's not shown by default you have to turn it on
04:44 PM roycroft: this year so far (and fire season is just beginning) 2,728,769ha are burning
04:44 PM XXCoder: lol new york smoke humor https://twitter.com/jeremysmiles/status/1666211331224002693
04:44 PM JT-Cave: window > shape properties
04:44 PM roycroft: 1186% of the normal
04:44 PM roycroft: oh, yeah, i know there is a test card utility built into lightburn
04:45 PM roycroft: i was already using a third-party one when i found out about that feature
04:45 PM roycroft: and i haven't gotten around to trying the built-in one yet
04:46 PM roycroft: i think it's easier than the third-party one, as it automatically populates the table of values
04:48 PM perry_j1987: lol you guys remember the other day when i said i had a bad pin on this BOB and i moved the probe to a diff pin...
04:48 PM perry_j1987: ya i had that pin setup as estop in that i moved it too haha
04:49 PM perry_j1987: probe screen ng is all working now haha
04:50 PM JT-Shop: it's not the built in test card it's a function you can change the power level of different items in the same layer
04:50 PM roycroft: oh
04:50 PM roycroft: i use different layers for that
04:50 PM roycroft: wait
04:51 PM roycroft: does this do it by sub-layer?
04:51 PM * roycroft will have to look into it when he gets a chance
04:52 PM roycroft: i put the first coat of color on half my enclosure today
04:52 PM roycroft: and it already looks way better than my first go, when i attempted to spray it
04:52 PM roycroft: i'll get the second coat on in a few minutes, as soon as work is done for the day
04:52 PM roycroft: and i can do a third coat after dinner tonight, which may be the final color coat
04:55 PM travis_farmer: any UPS boxes, JT? :-)
04:59 PM JT-Shop: roycroft, you can change the power of different shapes in the same level with it
04:59 PM JT-Shop: travis_farmer, nope
05:00 PM travis_farmer: ok, just thought i would check. :-) heading up to granny's for supper now :-)
05:01 PM roycroft: i'll check it out when i get a chance, jt-shop
05:01 PM roycroft: getting the enclosure painted is my current priority
05:01 PM * roycroft heads out to do just that
05:23 PM roycroft: well the bad news is that i may need four coats of color, as i'm putting on really thin coats and it's a really intensely dark color
05:23 PM roycroft: the good news is that i think the tint is almost perfect
05:26 PM perry_j1987: any of you guys probe screen users?
05:26 PM perry_j1987: so i throw my 3d touch probe in the mill and jog over to the work piece and probe z and then pick up an xy corner or whatever I want.
05:26 PM perry_j1987: trying to figure out how to use the tool height setter with it now
05:29 PM CAKESLOB: skunkworks , sam wtf is this mach3 shit?
05:30 PM CAKESLOB: you can get bad cuts......by making it too slow?
05:42 PM Tom_L: skunkworks[m], they found you :)
05:45 PM skunkworks[m]: CAKESLOB: there doesn't seem to be any path following tolerance in mach... So if you even notice the path is not following well - your options are increasing machine acceleration or slowing down the gcode
05:46 PM CAKESLOB: i knew it had some table thing, didnt realize how it was(nt) happening though
05:47 PM CAKESLOB: thats like.....backwards.....
05:48 PM skunkworks[m]: Yah.. there is some tables you can setup that for a given change in direction angle - you can set a feed rate
05:48 PM skunkworks[m]: Crazy
05:48 PM CAKESLOB: so, if im getting rounded corners? turn up the accel....
05:48 PM skunkworks[m]: Yep
05:49 PM XXCoder: I suppose you could also use linuxcnc, since it has g64
05:49 PM XXCoder: g61 or g64 with parameters
05:49 PM CAKESLOB: which is based on a metric'
05:50 PM CAKESLOB: which is adjustable/settable
05:50 PM CAKESLOB: not just all out everyday
05:51 PM skunkworks[m]: https://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php?topic=45076.msg287823#msg287823
05:51 PM CAKESLOB: yeah, that seems pretty jacked up
05:52 PM CAKESLOB: also im pretty sure that guy on the zone is always talkin shit anyways
05:52 PM skunkworks[m]: I was arguing with a mach fan boy (yes - I am a linuxcnc fan boy) that it isn't a good way to plan a trajectoy
05:53 PM skunkworks[m]: oh - you saw that 😉
05:53 PM XXCoder: mach3 isnt great from what I see so far, and man is it ripped off so oftem
05:53 PM skunkworks[m]: someone called him out.. You said this.. then you said this... that is confusing.. lol
05:53 PM XXCoder: it has licensing stuff and need to buy, while lcnc you dont pay anything
05:54 PM skunkworks[m]: but but - the screan is so easy to change...
05:54 PM skunkworks[m]: screen
05:54 PM XXCoder: yep. its super customizable.
05:54 PM CAKESLOB: ive been using it for 16 years everyday
05:54 PM CAKESLOB: no issue
05:54 PM CAKESLOB: i just need to change machine acceleration to do a finish opass
05:55 PM skunkworks[m]: oof...
05:55 PM CAKESLOB: pff ill show that guy]
05:55 PM CAKESLOB: ive been using linuxcnc for 29 years everyday
05:55 PM CAKESLOB: and once im done comopiling for the last time
05:56 PM skunkworks[m]: lol - I don't tihnk it has been around that long
05:56 PM CAKESLOB: neither have I.......if that is believable
05:57 PM XXCoder: I have no idea how old mach is
05:58 PM CAKESLOB: https://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php?topic=38725.0
05:58 PM Unterhaus_: mach came out in the emc days
05:58 PM CAKESLOB: steve stallings  was a pretty fun guy though
05:58 PM skunkworks[m]: Think I have been using it since 2005ish
05:59 PM skunkworks[m]: Steve is.. 🙂
05:59 PM skunkworks[m]: Yes - those are the tables you have to setup... which seems back wards..
05:59 PM skunkworks[m]: and painfull
06:00 PM skunkworks[m]: mach used the nist interpreter - initally..
06:03 PM CAKESLOB: interesting
06:03 PM roycroft: aah, canada post, how i missed your awesome service
06:04 PM roycroft: my parcel that shipped from st john, nb two weeks ago has arrived in montreal already
06:04 PM CAKESLOB: loool did they walk it there
06:04 PM CAKESLOB: oh right
06:05 PM roycroft: they hired a newfie on a bobsled to dispatch it
06:05 PM roycroft: the question is: when will it cross the border?
06:05 PM Tom_L: will it?
06:06 PM roycroft: in toronto? windsor? vancouver?
06:06 PM roycroft: if vancouver it might take the rest of the summer to get here
06:06 PM Tom_L: seems the ones that go up thru Chicago move fairly quick
06:07 PM roycroft: once it gets south of the 49th it will arrive quickly
06:08 PM roycroft: theo deraat is based in calgary
06:08 PM roycroft: hence, the openbsd project is based in calgary
06:08 PM roycroft: when they ship a new distro on cd, they don't ship from there
06:08 PM XXCoder: when I had a hobby business, I used to ship to canada all times. it was cheaper for them for me to ship from usa to canada than from canadan sellers.
06:09 PM roycroft: they load up a truck haul the cds down to a little town just across the border in montana, and ship from there
06:12 PM CAKESLOB: well, I guess they needed something to pass the time in calgary.....
06:12 PM CAKESLOB: but yeah, its always cheaper than buying internally in canada. its bullshit
06:12 PM roycroft: a lot of folks who ship to canada from vancover pop across the border to blaine, wa, to do the shipping
06:13 PM roycroft: it's faster and cheaper than using canada post
06:13 PM roycroft: the blaine post office is pretty big for serving such a small town
07:01 PM Unterhaus_: the weather service posted a satellite view of the smoke over Pennsylvania, we didn't even get the worst of it
07:02 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
07:12 PM jepler1088[m]: I don't normally shill but I just noticed the folks who pay my bills just put some nice looking rotary encoders in the shop https://www.adafruit.com/product/5734 https://www.adafruit.com/product/5735
07:13 PM XXCoder: not too bad
08:15 PM * xxcoder[m] uploaded an image: (410KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/BYqeiObVXceGsfKpMBkMauFp/64757859_887875804897391_9124085282168111104_n.png >
08:15 PM xxcoder[m]: interesting tool. not mine
09:17 PM ConSonar[m] is now known as consonar0[m]
09:27 PM reps[m] is now known as reps0[m]
11:25 PM CaptHindsight[m]: xxcoder: adjustable bottle opener
11:25 PM XXCoder: lol
11:36 PM CaptHindsight[m]: solarwind: please stop with the smoke already
11:50 PM travis_farmer: Morning :-) (50 minutes into morning, here...)
