01:36 AM Deejay: moin
01:54 AM TurBoss: morning
04:24 AM travis_farmer[m]: Morning ☕️
04:24 AM travis_farmer[m]: i see the bridge looks fixed :)
04:25 AM XXCoder: yeah matrix and irc fixed their endpoints or something
04:25 AM XXCoder: turboss did awesome also'
04:25 AM travis_farmer[m]: good, i don't need both IRC and matrix open :)
04:26 AM travis_farmer[m]: a big THANKS to all who fixed it :)
04:33 AM Tom_L: morning
04:44 AM JT-Cave: morning
04:58 AM travis_farmer[m]: 63F with a high of 84F, 93% humidity, T-storms afternoon
05:39 AM JT-Cave: rooster just crowed
06:55 AM JT-Cave: 65°F and 90°F for a high
06:56 AM JT-Cave: had a guy order 1 each of each flavor of 7i92T lol a horder for sure
06:56 AM travis_farmer[m]: yeah, sounds like it
06:57 AM JT-Cave: my store limits you to one of any fpga card... wonder if I should change that back to unlimited?
06:57 AM Tom_L: 67°F hi 81°F
06:58 AM travis_farmer[m]: i would only do that for cards that are easy to replace stock with
07:03 AM JT-Cave: the 7i96s and the 7i92t's are current cards and most of the time in stock for me to order
07:09 AM travis_farmer[m]: the yard clean-up crew is out working hard. :-) for the money they are getting, i wish my parents offered me the same to do the work... sure could have used the funds...
08:56 AM perry_j1987: thought craigslist was full of scammers now
08:57 AM perry_j1987: had 4 or 5 listings up for a week now and not a single email has come in
08:57 AM perry_j1987: lol
09:07 AM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
09:07 AM Unterhausen: I had a listing up for quite a while and all the scammers thought I was a scammer so they left me alone
09:07 AM Unterhausen: never sold my van either
09:07 AM travis_farmer[m]: lol
09:07 AM Unterhausen: lesson learned, always ask for a little too much when selling a van
09:08 AM Unterhausen: not sure what I would do with a bobcat though
09:08 AM perry_j1987: animal or machine
09:10 AM Unterhausen: skid steer
09:11 AM Unterhausen: although google informs me there was an animal scam too
09:11 AM Unterhausen: also someone advertised they found a cat and it was a bobcat
09:11 AM Unterhausen: it's hard to disambiguate cl scams involving bobcats
09:12 AM Unterhausen: skid steers are expensive, plus it would be better to rent one
09:14 AM Unterhausen: I swear my neighbor's lawn tractor that they threw away just showed up at the habitat store
10:11 AM solarwind: Is anyone here good with Fusion360 and willing to take a quick look at my very very simple part?
10:12 AM solarwind: What I did works, but I have a feeling I did it in a roundabout way and there's a much better, proper way to do it
10:14 AM perry_j1987: what is it
10:14 AM solarwind: 2 cylinders on top of each other, top one hollow. I did it with a diagram and revolve
10:15 AM solarwind: but the diagram doesn't look like it "should", so I feel like I did something stupid
10:15 AM perry_j1987: pastebin a picture
10:16 AM roycroft: it is friday!
10:16 AM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Revolve is one way. The other is to have a circle sketch, extrude and the a second sketch on the end of it with the rest of the feature.
10:16 AM solarwind: perry_j1987 https://images2.imgbox.com/b4/3d/PQm68ytn_o.png
10:17 AM solarwind: the thing with revolve is that it can't cross the axis, so I had to manually select one half of the sketch to revolve
10:17 AM solarwind: I feel like this is not the right way. And the sketch has lots of intersecting lines which I feel should not exist
10:18 AM solarwind: That part is just a replacement top end for the plunger on my glass syringe (the top of it broke)
10:19 AM perry_j1987: if it works it works is always the number 1 priority of course
10:19 AM solarwind: ZincBoy[CAON][m] yeah, there are plenty of ways, I'm just not good enough with it yet ("grok") to know exactly what to do in any given situation
10:19 AM solarwind: perry_j1987 I disagree
10:19 AM perry_j1987: you cant disagree
10:19 AM solarwind: I would never take that approach to software engineering
10:19 AM perry_j1987: lol
10:19 AM solarwind: or electrical engineering
10:20 AM perry_j1987: your goal is always function first then you itterate
10:20 AM solarwind: that's what causes spaghetti code and a mess
10:20 AM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: That is not something I would use revolve fore.
10:20 AM perry_j1987: ya if you dont iterate :)
10:20 AM solarwind: yes but this is such a simple part
10:20 AM solarwind: ZincBoy[CAON][m] so 2 sketches on the X-Z plane?
10:20 AM solarwind: and extrude in Y direction?
10:21 AM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: 1st sketch on the x-z plane. 2nd sketch on the end of the first extrude.
10:21 AM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Then add the hole and the chamfer features.
10:22 AM perry_j1987: you can totally use revolve for stuff like this
10:22 AM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Doing it this way lets you change things much easier.
10:22 AM perry_j1987: you dont need to use boxes though you could just constrain line segments
10:22 AM perry_j1987: and it will be parametric
10:22 AM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: You can but it is slower.
10:22 AM solarwind: ZincBoy[CAON][m] perry_j1987 yeah it's tips like this that I'm looking for. Thank you!
10:24 AM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Using the hole tool is important as it lets you make automatic callouts and feature recognition for documentation and CAM
10:24 AM roycroft: solarwind: is the hollow cylindrical?
10:24 AM solarwind: roycroft yes
10:24 AM roycroft: this, to me, would be a two-step operation
10:24 AM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Using separate chamfer ops lets you turn them on and off as needed.
10:24 AM roycroft: i don't use fusion 360, but it should be the same for an parametric modeling software
10:25 AM roycroft: i would make a sketch of the outer edge of the part, then revolve it 360 degrees to make a solid
10:25 AM roycroft: then i would sketch a circle on the end and do an extruded cut of that
10:26 AM roycroft: oh, i guess you'd have to add the chamfer at the opening after the extruded cut
10:26 AM solarwind: ZincBoy[CAON][m] exactly the kind of information I need, thanks!
10:26 AM solarwind: roycroft what do you use for CAD?
10:27 AM roycroft: solidworks 2018 for 3d cad
10:27 AM roycroft: but that doesn't matter, other than as a point of curiosity
10:28 AM roycroft: parametric modeling is pretty much platform independent
10:28 AM * ZincBoy[CAON][m] uploaded an image: (564KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/VgLsNUBXyuzNdIicSYbhACmu/image.png >
10:28 AM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: This is pretty much the same part and it is two sketches, a hole feature, and two chamfer ops:
10:30 AM solarwind: Perfect, thanks!

11:02 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
11:31 AM dudul5811[m]: Guys as you may know, mesa cards are not an option for users in countries like Iran, Russia. Do you know an alternative that is suitable for 6 axis closed loop servo systems ?
11:47 AM rmu: dudul5811[m]: ethercat?
11:49 AM jpa-: i doubt you can import ethercat hardware any better
11:49 AM jpa-: external servo drivers that take step/dir from parallel port cards could work, but not very nice
11:52 AM rmu: so you first have to check what kind of servo hardware you can get, seems to me to be the bigger problem
11:53 AM rmu: PC-wise, ethercat doesn't need any hardware
11:53 AM rmu: any special hardware
11:57 AM jpa-: if you do servo loops on hardware side, latency stops being much of an issue; then you could manage even with userspace USB to some arduino board, but it needs a bunch of custom hardware design and development
12:28 PM skunkworks[m]: depends on how fast you want to go.. Printer port and a simple pwm amplifier would make a closed loop system. obviously speed limited by base thread
12:33 PM jpa-: yeah, getting encoders to work well on parallel port is the limiting factor there
12:34 PM jpa-: 4+ bit gray code encoder being better than quadrature, but then you run out of pins unless you have a lots of parallel port cards
12:36 PM pcw-home: Remora might be an option
12:36 PM CaptHindsight[m]: users in countries like Iran, Russia have to buy from China
12:38 PM pcw-home: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/18-computer/44828-remora-ethernet-nvem-cnc-board?start=0
12:44 PM skunkworks[m]: Does Remora have pwm firmware?
12:45 PM skunkworks[m]: (I got some hardware from the tormach fest - but have not had time to look at it)
12:45 PM Unterhausen: I don't think pwm is reliably available on remora-compatible boards
12:45 PM Unterhausen: lots of times it could have it, but the pins aren't available
12:45 PM Unterhausen: probably the best choice is ethercat
12:46 PM Unterhausen: there was a russian mesa clone, I imagine fpgas are difficult to come by
12:47 PM Unterhausen: the light controller board is still available on alibab
12:48 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.automationtechnologiesinc.com/products-page/cs-lab-csmio/6-axis-cnc-control-system-csmio-ip-a-board-with-simcnc-software
12:49 PM CaptHindsight[m]: uses Mach
12:50 PM roycroft: if you are in russia you control cnc machine with potato
12:50 PM Unterhausen: a computer made on minecraft, actually. Made up from potatoes
12:51 PM perry_j1987: just get a haas they are available in russia :P
12:51 PM * travis_farmer[m] wishes Mesa took Paypal Credit... :-(
12:52 PM Unterhausen: I think it's just haas parts
12:52 PM CaptHindsight[m]: travis_farmer: paypal's fees are a bit too high for just processing a CC transaction
12:53 PM perry_j1987: Unterhausen they got in trouble recently for one of their dealers selling the machines i thought
12:53 PM travis_farmer[m]: understand, but it still sucks...
12:53 PM Tom_L: oh stop yer whinin...
12:54 PM travis_farmer[m]: :-(
12:54 PM Tom_L: dunno, does JT take it?
12:54 PM travis_farmer[m]: JT doesn't have a 7i83
12:54 PM Tom_L: just send him a gold nugget
12:55 PM CaptHindsight[m]: do we really want terrorists states to have 6-axis CNC's? Florida and Texas especially
12:55 PM roycroft: i believe jt accepts paypal payments
12:56 PM roycroft: travis_farmer: go to mesaus.com
12:57 PM roycroft: but maybe not right now, as the site is unreachable from here
12:57 PM CaptHindsight[m]: travis_farmer: for about $2 you can get a stamp, envelope and a money order
12:57 PM travis_farmer[m]: as i said, JT doesn't have a 7i83
12:57 PM roycroft: i did not see that, sorry
12:57 PM roycroft: and his site is reachable again
12:58 PM roycroft: albeit painfully slow
12:59 PM CaptHindsight[m]: doesn't load here
12:59 PM roycroft: it timed out here a few minutes ago
12:59 PM travis_farmer[m]: no load here either
01:00 PM Tom_L: it only loads for ppl he likes
01:00 PM roycroft: but then it loaded
01:00 PM roycroft: then why did it load for me?
01:00 PM CaptHindsight[m]: new comcast here as well, no stale bits in the modem, fresh internets
01:00 PM roycroft: i'm pretty annoying, am i not?
01:00 PM travis_farmer[m]: figures, i knew he didn't like me ;-)
01:00 PM Unterhausen: I had trouble loading it, I guess I'm not in the favored group
01:01 PM Tom_L: me either
01:01 PM Unterhausen: JT found some new friends and doesn't need us anymore
01:01 PM CaptHindsight[m]: has he tried turning it off and on again?
01:02 PM roycroft: maybe a chicken needs to jump off the roost and get back on
01:02 PM Unterhausen: resetting 2 of my windows computers has worked on intractable problems in the last 24 hours
01:02 PM Tom_L: what if the battery is dead and it won't start again?
01:02 PM Unterhausen: it's like the old days of ctrl-alt-delete
01:03 PM Unterhausen: replace the chicken on the treadmill powering the thing?
01:03 PM Tom_L: CaptHindsight[m], did you get that 2nd edm site i posted?
01:03 PM CaptHindsight[m]: nope
01:04 PM CaptHindsight[m]: found a quick turn EDM service just up north
01:04 PM pcw-home: travis_farmer[m]: we are shipping an order to JT today, we can add a 7I83
01:04 PM Tom_L: ok
01:04 PM roycroft: now i get a "service unavailable" error
01:04 PM roycroft: someone should let jt know that his site is down
01:04 PM Unterhausen: must be a thunderstorm within hearing distance, little dog just came for reassurance
01:04 PM travis_farmer[m]: verify with him that he takes Paypal Credit first, pcw-home
01:05 PM Tom_L: https://fathommfg.com/edm-machine-shop
01:05 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.prototek.com/quick-turn-wire-sinker-edm/
01:05 PM roycroft: travis_farmer: i have paypal receipts from payments to him
01:05 PM Unterhausen: I have a paypal card that anyone can take
01:05 PM roycroft: that does not mean he currently acceptss paypal, but he has in the past, over the course of several years
01:06 PM travis_farmer[m]: i am trying now on a 7i72 i also need
01:06 PM roycroft: but i do agree that checking with jt before sending an additional card would be prudent
01:06 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Tom_L: thanks, some of their locations are interesting
01:08 PM travis_farmer[m]: wow, mesaus is slooooow today. you guys weren't kidding :-)
01:10 PM JT-Shop: odd mesaus.com was slow to load for me
01:12 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDmCmU3ZyQU
01:17 PM travis_farmer[m]: Paypal Credit went through :-)
01:18 PM JT-Shop: I see it...
01:21 PM Unterhausen: got to be patient, those chickens are running on the treadmill as fast as they can
01:21 PM Unterhausen: I think mesaus is going to timeout on me
01:22 PM travis_farmer[m]: lol
01:23 PM travis_farmer[m]: JT, has pcw-home contacted you about adding a 7i83 to your shipment? just because you take Paypal and he doesn't...
01:23 PM JT-Shop: no
01:33 PM pcw-home: I can just drop it in if its ok
01:34 PM travis_farmer[m]: ok with me if it is ok with JT
01:37 PM Unterhausen: okay with me too
01:47 PM JT-Shop: ok with me
01:57 PM travis_farmer: ok, let me know when it shows up, JT, and i will make the buy :-) (matrix bridge is dropping posts again)
02:00 PM unterhausen[m]: matrix bridge only drops messages from people it doesn't like. Computers are taking over
02:00 PM Unterhausen: air force says an ai didn't kill the operator in a simulation, but that's what they would say isn't it?
02:03 PM JT-Shop: travis_farmer, just talked to the Boss and she is putting a 7i83 in my shipment
02:03 PM travis_farmer: :-)
02:09 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Unterhausen: yeah it went around the problem to solve the problem
02:16 PM JT-Shop: weird I can hear keystrokes and a bit of static
02:16 PM travis_farmer: ???
02:16 PM JT-Shop: ah that's better... turned on the noise filter
02:17 PM Tom_L: got your aids all set up ehh?
02:17 PM JT-Shop: yup
02:18 PM JT-Shop: well working on it
02:18 PM Tom_L: drop a good size wrench on a concrete floor and see how that strikes ya
02:18 PM travis_farmer: or shoot a gun...
02:19 PM JT-Shop: looks like it will be a week or two before they use my audiometry results to program them
02:19 PM Tom_L: huh
02:19 PM Tom_L: i get free tests & adjustments for life
02:20 PM JT-Shop: looks like they want you to wear them for a bit before the initial consult
02:20 PM Tom_L: i think i paid for that up front...
02:20 PM JT-Shop: time to call Phil
02:20 PM Tom_L: maybe Phil has some good news
02:33 PM JT-Shop: Jack Cooper knows about the load and it is pending
02:42 PM Tom_L: probably ship it with a load of Volts to offset the environmental impact :)
02:44 PM travis_farmer: LMAO
02:49 PM roycroft: jt's website is more responsive now
02:49 PM travis_farmer: that's because JT is done downloading porn... ;-)
02:50 PM CaptHindsight[m]: it finally loaded
02:51 PM * JT[m] uploaded an image: (298KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/ONwcZzhYEggCkGDZimXPnnSS/20230602_145042.jpg >
02:51 PM roycroft: i think he was streaming foghorn leghorn videos to his chickens
02:52 PM JT-Shop: lol
02:56 PM travis_farmer: battery maintainer for the C8?
02:56 PM JT-Shop: LOL at pcw-home "Warning This Property is Protected by Highly Trained SHEEP Not responsible for injury or death"
02:57 PM JT-Shop: yup
03:00 PM perry_j1987: oww razor blade to tip of the finger
03:01 PM perry_j1987: i think this is purely because i JUST stocked the shop with new bandaids lol
03:02 PM * travis_farmer853 uploaded an image: (947KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/XSnQlXZEZdLxTfEjGXRTRRsB/weather_radar.png >
03:02 PM travis_farmer853: T-storms skirted just under my town... 🙂
03:02 PM Tom_L: they're headed this way
03:03 PM travis_farmer: up here they are close enough i can hear them on AM radio
03:06 PM Unterhausen: we were supposed to have thunderstorms but maybe we're just going to have the thunder
03:07 PM CaptHindsight[m]: travis_farmer: been happenin for way over 10 years https://gpm.nasa.gov/education/water-cycle
03:08 PM travis_farmer: yes, i realize that ;-)
03:08 PM CaptHindsight[m]: my 5th grade teacher said that the water we drink with today was the same water that Jesus drank
03:09 PM perry_j1987: na
03:09 PM travis_farmer: and it is full of dino pee
03:09 PM perry_j1987: im pretty sure its been pee'd out by dinosaurs
03:09 PM perry_j1987: gah beat me too it travis_farmer lol
03:09 PM travis_farmer: LOL
03:11 PM CaptHindsight[m]: she also said that the oceans are just fish bathrooms
03:11 PM JT-Shop: weird the rain is traveling sw instead of the normal ne
03:12 PM perry_j1987: another popular one to bring up EVERY time you're swimming with anyone else lol
03:13 PM CaptHindsight[m]: we rarely used to get winds from the east but the past year it's been often
03:41 PM skunkworks[m]: it is sunny and thundering here.
03:42 PM CaptHindsight[m]: skunkworks: are you sure it's not artillery?
03:42 PM skunkworks[m]: pretty sure.. We are close to ft mccoy
03:43 PM skunkworks[m]: weird summer wether..
03:43 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Minnesota might be invading
03:43 PM skunkworks[m]: weather..
03:43 PM skunkworks[m]: whatever
03:44 PM skunkworks[m]: Minnesota just legalized pot.. Highly unlikely to invade..
03:44 PM skunkworks[m]: Munchies - yes.
03:46 PM roycroft: minnesota wouldn't invade anyway
03:47 PM roycroft: they'd invite you over for a church social and serve you some nice hot dish
03:49 PM JT-Shop: well the xtool has made it as far as kansas
03:53 PM roycroft: did you get the 20w laser head?
03:53 PM JT-Shop: yup I ordered the 20w
03:56 PM roycroft: i'm going to test my 20w laser with some leather this weekend
03:57 PM roycroft: i may end up using the 5w for leather and the 20w for wood
03:57 PM JT-Shop: let me know how that works out
03:57 PM CaptHindsight[m]: skunkworks: why is the Minnesota side of the riverbank so much higher than the Wisconsin side near you?
03:58 PM XXCoder: makes sense, sorta. wouldnt 20w be able to lower power to similiar to 5w?
03:58 PM roycroft: and that reminds me, i have to decide how to set up my shared materials library for lightburn
03:58 PM roycroft: yeah, but i might not get the same power granularity with the 20w
03:58 PM roycroft: i'll see how it goes
03:59 PM XXCoder: ahh true. supposing 255 levels, amount of power for 1 in 5w and 20w isnt same
03:59 PM roycroft: besides, i already have the 5w laser, and lasers do have a finite (although very long, hopefully, with these) lifespan
03:59 PM CaptHindsight[m]: XXCoder: yes, you can PWM to do it
03:59 PM roycroft: so using the 5w for leather will make the 20w last longer
03:59 PM XXCoder: yeah I guess 20w isnt too cheap
03:59 PM roycroft: the laser head alone cost me over $600
04:00 PM roycroft: the entire machine, including the 5w laser, cost me a bit over $300 initially
04:00 PM CaptHindsight[m]: blue LED lasers are pretty low cost
04:00 PM roycroft: mine is blue - 450nm
04:00 PM JT-Shop: I don't even see the 5w head for sale on xtool
04:01 PM roycroft: they may be phasing it out
04:01 PM XXCoder: I hate how resellers lie all time about wattage of laser
04:02 PM XXCoder: I had bought 5w one to replace 0.5w one and it was acting same, so im sure its 0.5w or maybe little bit more powerful.
04:02 PM roycroft: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B2R9Y6Y2/
04:02 PM roycroft: that's the whole machine with the 5w
04:03 PM CaptHindsight[m]: you mean like 450nm 20W(5.5W Output Optical Power)?
04:04 PM CaptHindsight[m]: hey stupid, nobody uses input power to spec a laser diode
04:04 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.ebay.com/itm/224586281702
04:04 PM XXCoder: dont remember what listing was. been a while
04:04 PM roycroft: actually, most of the cheap laser engravers/cutters use input power to spec the diode
04:05 PM roycroft: because it bloats the spec, and the average consumer doesn't know the difference
04:05 PM roycroft: but the xtool lasers spec output power
04:06 PM CaptHindsight[m]: it's almost like some people inflate specs to make it sound like you are getting more than you actually are
04:07 PM roycroft: check to see if it comes from a certain east asian country
04:07 PM roycroft: if so, then that's almost certainly the case
04:08 PM roycroft: my machine spec is "36w machine power, 5w laser output power"
04:08 PM roycroft: with the new laser head it's 120w machine power, 20w laser output power
04:09 PM travis_farmer: Hmmm... i have one of those 20W (5.5W) laser heads...
04:11 PM roycroft: i do too
04:11 PM roycroft: i got it to mount on my 3d printer
04:11 PM roycroft: i did mount it once and test it, but decided it was too much of a hassle to swap the squirter and the eye killer back and forth
04:12 PM travis_farmer: i plan on mounting mine on my cnc router, allong with the spindle
04:13 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I have a 20W RF CO2 laser available (Coherent) and power supply
04:13 PM roycroft: if i eventually get a co2 laser it will probably be at least 100w output power
04:14 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.edmundoptics.com/p/20w-coherent-diamond-c-series-co2-laser/37272/
04:14 PM travis_farmer: a bit outside my price range ;-)
04:16 PM roycroft: if i had enough work lined up for a reasonable roi timeframe i could get one any time
04:17 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, if it's going thru kansas in a storm, no tellin where it will end up
04:18 PM roycroft: yeah
04:18 PM roycroft: it might end up falling on a wicked witch
04:19 PM JT-Shop: yikes
04:20 PM Tom_L: radar looks bad but we're right on the edge of it and got nearly nothing so far
04:21 PM JT-Shop: hopefully it just passed through kansas last night and the tracking just shows a scan
04:24 PM Unterhausen: sure would be nice to have a couple of days of rain
04:25 PM XXCoder: no rain here still
04:26 PM XXCoder: though its usual no rain during june to aug, it used to be not the case
04:28 PM roycroft: we have no rain in the forecast
04:29 PM roycroft: it will likely rain lightly once or twice before the fair
04:29 PM roycroft: but from the fair until september we'll likely get zero rain
04:29 PM Tom_L: wasn't it muddy there last year?
04:30 PM XXCoder: wasnt that because it was cleaning up at fall? been quite a while so my memory is vague
04:32 PM CaptHindsight[m]: pretty sure there were fires as well
04:33 PM XXCoder: there is always fires
04:33 PM CaptHindsight[m]: and didn't mudslides cut off Vancouver?
04:33 PM XXCoder: that was canadian vancouver I think
04:34 PM XXCoder: and 2 years? ago
04:34 PM CaptHindsight[m]: might be, the last thing I recall was some threat of a virus from Asia
04:42 PM Unterhausen: did that ever happen?
04:42 PM XXCoder: I always wanted to drive from vancouver to vancouver as a joke
04:43 PM XXCoder: "wow I drove hours from vancouver to vancouver"
04:45 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://www.rome2rio.com/map/Vancouver-BC-Canada/Vancouver-WA-USA
04:46 PM XXCoder: drive is slightly slower than flight lol
04:46 PM XXCoder: and thats before you add stuff like having to go to airport 2 hours before.
06:22 PM ve7it: I have done that trip a few times... about 5hrs drive depending on how other people on the road behave

07:45 PM roycroft: sherwin williams told me they could mix me some paint that will match my pantone color, and all they needed was the pantone number, which i gave them
07:45 PM roycroft: the paint i need is a midnight blue color, and the paint they mixed was bright orange
07:45 PM roycroft: they insisted that i pay for it because it was a custom mix
07:45 PM roycroft: so i went out to my car and got the pantone chip and showed it to them
07:46 PM roycroft: the number matched what they said they made
07:46 PM roycroft: the color chip was totally different, of course
07:46 PM roycroft: they still wanted me to pay for it because it was a "custom mix" and "the customer bears responsibility for how closely it matches"
07:47 PM roycroft: i haven't used sherwin williams paint in years, and i'm inclined not to after this
07:47 PM roycroft: they had my contact info, so i told them they can sue me if they wished, and i left
07:49 PM roycroft: it's pretty funny, because my google-fu is pretty bad, but a quick search on "pantone 280c hex" returned this as the first result:
07:49 PM roycroft: https://icolorpalette.com/color/pantone-280-c
08:19 PM Tom_L: looks orange to me
08:19 PM Tom_L: :)
08:22 PM XXCoder: weird that theyre ones to mix it and its your respobility
09:00 PM roycroft: all paint stores will say that
09:01 PM roycroft: but usually they mix it close to what you want
09:01 PM roycroft: another paint store that i use fairly frequently has an old-timer who still mixes by ehe
09:01 PM roycroft: they're working on it for me now
09:02 PM roycroft: their main brand is benjamin moore, which is good paint
09:02 PM roycroft: although that's the stuff i used originally that did not work out
09:02 PM roycroft: but we're using a completely different product
