12:18 AM sensille: i'm too dumb to handle the forum software, doing quotes is strange
01:23 AM Deejay: moin
04:33 AM Tom_L: morning
04:34 AM travis_farmer: Morning :-)
04:41 AM JT-Cave: morning
04:45 AM Tom_L: 64F Hi 86
04:49 AM travis_farmer: 42F high of 76F :-)
05:40 AM JT-Cave: rooster just crowed
05:40 AM JT-Cave: 58°F
05:40 AM XXCoder: 58f rooster sounds cold lol
05:42 AM travis_farmer: yeah, nobody likes a cold co** ;-)
05:48 AM JT-Cave: rooster > https://github.com/jethornton/wakeup/blob/master/wakeup/src/wakeup
05:49 AM JT-Cave: hmm that needs updating
06:17 AM travis_farmer: JT:sure you want to share your lat/long coordinates? i now have your house on google maps... just saying... ;-)
06:19 AM * travis_farmer[m] uploaded an image: (666KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/NJZxLYuQpMfmHpmAHoxIxdoV/jt.png >
06:22 AM JT-Cave: yup
06:27 AM * JT[m] uploaded an image: (180KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/slBNNmbbJxADPqKHjgMCjfpz/20230530_062658.jpg >
06:27 AM JT-Cave: break fast
06:28 AM travis_farmer: looks a little light...
06:30 AM JT-Cave: just right
07:31 AM JT-Cave: it is kinda creepy that you posted that photo
07:32 AM travis_farmer: sorry :-( i clipped it down to not show surrounding areas...
07:33 AM travis_farmer: the point i was making is people should be carefull what they share
09:09 AM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
09:09 AM Tom_L: it's ok, half of us still can't see those posts anyway
09:12 AM skunkworks[m]: boy -that is more pills than my dad takes..
09:41 AM Jym: JT-Cave Loetmichel  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RY6LcjYx6Nw
09:41 AM Jym: And it marks SS too
09:41 AM Jym: unlike CO2 lasers
09:55 AM roycroft: jt got an xcode d1 pro
09:55 AM roycroft: which is a diode laser
09:57 AM robert1: do these machines with "do not look into laser with remaining eye" warning labels?
09:58 AM robert1 is now known as rmu
10:00 AM JT-Shop: wow my PSA went back down to 2.13
10:19 AM JT-Cave: and I just had a guy buy my O2 sensors for the price I asked for.
10:20 AM travis_farmer: don't even know what my PSA is...
10:38 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, he must know what they're worth
10:39 AM perry_j1987: morning
10:42 AM roycroft: i do surprisingly well on cl
10:42 AM roycroft: i almost always post my bottom line selling price, and mark the listed price as "firm"
10:43 AM roycroft: i will get a few folks who will try to haggle, some get rather indignent about it, but for the most part folks just pay the asking price
10:43 AM roycroft: but i set fair prices
10:43 AM roycroft: cl is so full of people who think that a seller who won't haggle is trying to rip them off
10:44 AM Tom_L: and those are the ones actually trying on the flip end of it
10:44 AM Tom_L: getting something for nuthin
10:45 AM Jym: roycroft "The price for those that don't want/need to hangle is $2. For those that want to hangle the price is $5 and the lowest I'll go is $3."
10:48 AM Unterhausen: my favorite cl listing said the price was firm but then listed their actual firm price, which was quite a bit less
10:48 AM Unterhausen: some people don't know how bargaining works
10:50 AM travis_farmer: i have sold quite a bit on FB Marketplace... 95% of the time i get asking price, no haggle, even though i state OBRO. maybe i don't ask enough for stuff...
10:53 AM roycroft: i also have folks who want to snoop around the shop "because it's interesting"
10:54 AM roycroft: i get a lot of those
10:54 AM roycroft: but it's easy to deal with that - "i'm sorry, but my insurance doesn't allower visitors, and i can't afford a policy that does"
10:54 AM travis_farmer: looking for stuff to steal
10:54 AM roycroft: yes
10:54 AM roycroft: often times, at least
10:55 AM roycroft: but even if they genuinely are interested, snooping around the shop consumes time
10:55 AM roycroft: i'd have to raise my prices if i allowed that
10:55 AM roycroft: and then they would want to haggle, wasting more time
10:58 AM travis_farmer: i live in an old house, 1902 Sears house. several times a year we get antique "dealers" asking if they can look around, thinking an old house must have some antiques in it...
10:59 AM Unterhausen: I tried to sell my mother's van and I'm pretty sure I didn't get any offers because I listed it too low
10:59 AM Unterhausen: should have listed it for 10k and let them bargain me down
11:00 AM Unterhausen: lesson learned
11:22 AM ithe2guu[m]: i am having problems setting up my dyn4 servo drive. i finely got it running from lcnc, but it will only spin cw. when i tell it to move ccw it does not do anything
11:23 AM ithe2guu[m]: and when i reverse the direction in my hall, it does not change anything
11:33 AM roycroft: so i watched the rest of the video that jym linked to, where the guy is stating his wish list for laser engravers/cutters
11:33 AM roycroft: the xtool d1 pro has all those features already
11:37 AM unterhausen[m]: ithe2guu how are you controlling that drive. Step/dir?
11:37 AM Jym: roycroft for $300 USD ?
11:39 AM Unterhausen: isn't the one in the video over $500?
11:40 AM Unterhausen: the discord bridge seems really flakey
11:40 AM Jym: Unterhausen I think so, but it's  10W, not 5W (the base model), goes up to 20W I believe
11:40 AM Unterhausen: best price I saw was $550
11:40 AM roycroft: the d1 pro with the 5w laser is about US$300
11:41 AM Unterhausen: what is it with 10w
11:41 AM roycroft: i don't know
11:41 AM roycroft: i just bought a 20w laser head for mine, and that was $600
11:41 AM roycroft: there is also a 40w diode laser head for the d1 pro now, but it's $1k
11:41 AM roycroft: i think 20w is a really good choice
11:42 AM roycroft: in fact, if the youtube "makers" weren't such idiots i'd probably have purchased mine with the 20w laser in the first place
11:43 AM roycroft: i watched a bunch of videos that these "makers" did of the 20w model, and they were demonstrating crappy looking, pixelated engravings
11:43 AM Unterhausen: I see anywhere from $399 up to $550
11:43 AM roycroft: i knew that the 5w head was much higher resolution than the 20w, and i did not want crap like that, so i got the 5w
11:44 AM roycroft: but as it turns out, these "makers" are just idiots and do really coarse rasterization
11:44 AM roycroft: they engrave pretty fast, but their stuff looks like arse
11:44 AM roycroft: i've found with my 20w laser that i can still get the fine detail i need, albeit at the cost of speed
11:44 AM Unterhausen: I want the rotary stage
11:45 AM Unterhausen: except it's suspiciously cheap
11:45 AM roycroft: i did not get the rotary for mine
11:45 AM roycroft: i really like the xtool one
11:45 AM roycroft: jt ordered one for his
11:46 AM roycroft: the xtool rotary has four modes - 3-jaw chuck, between centers, offset rollers, and ring holder, and works with lightburn out of the box
11:47 AM roycroft: https://www.xtool.com/blogs/news/introducing-xtool-ra2-pro
12:01 PM Unterhausen: I just got a consulting check, but I don't think my wife would be too happy if I spent it all on a laser
12:02 PM Loetmichel: Jym: oh. you can mark and even cut SS with co2. Need 80W for 0.3mm stainless "foil" though
12:02 PM Loetmichel: :)
12:03 PM Jym: Loetmichel Well sure. but I don't have 80W ;)
12:05 PM Loetmichel: been there done that. with an open system with the 80W tube in the back and just a few mirrors, not unlike the long one in the vid. was quite frightening to sit right nest to an 80W CO2 laser at full power with NO shielding whatsoever apart from glasses. And i know from experience that even the 40W unfocussed beam takes less than .1 sec to have a nice 3mm wide black patch on your finger
12:05 PM Loetmichel: should you be idiotic enough to reach into the beam.
12:06 PM Loetmichel: s/nest/next
12:07 PM roycroft: that is another advantage of diode lasers (also shared by fiber optic lasers) - no open laser beam with mirrors to deflect it except right at the cutting area
12:08 PM roycroft: it makes them inherently safer
12:08 PM roycroft: but you don't get the wallop that you can get with a high-power co2 laser
12:08 PM roycroft: i'm thinking that a 1000w diode laser would be so tall and heavy that it would not be able to move reliably
12:09 PM Loetmichel: well, i managed that mishap on this machine. reached in and touched the test button at the same time. Stupid is as stupid does: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcXoe3QBUzA
12:10 PM Loetmichel: ... at least i noticed immediatly :)
12:10 PM roycroft: my recommendation would be not to do that
12:11 PM Loetmichel: yeah, well, was a nice burn mark for a few weeks. And a learning experience
12:11 PM Loetmichel: :)
12:11 PM roycroft: i still have to dial in my laser for various materials, but so far i'm quite happy with it
12:11 PM roycroft: and i don't regret getting the 5w head for it at first
12:12 PM roycroft: while i'll probably use the 20w for most wood engraving/cutting, the 5w is perfect for leather
12:12 PM Loetmichel: i am considering to get one that can cut 1oz copper tape. Seems kinda hard though
12:12 PM roycroft: and if i ever decide to cut paper/cardboard, the 5w head will probably be perfect for thost materials too
12:12 PM roycroft: i have no need nor desire to cut metals at this point with a laser
12:13 PM roycroft: i do want to do some metal engraving
12:13 PM roycroft: but i'll probably acid etch the engravings
12:13 PM roycroft: using the laser to cut the patter in a mask i apply to the metal
12:31 PM skunkworks[m]: lol
12:33 PM Loetmichel: roycroft: well, we already use said cheapo 40W laser for a lot of "shielding mesh" aka nylon mesh with nicel plating
12:33 PM Loetmichel: to make series shielding patterns
12:34 PM Loetmichel: making patterns for 35um copper foil tape would just make things easier
01:03 PM roycroft: what i have should work well for my needs, for now
01:03 PM roycroft: but i go where the money is
01:04 PM roycroft: and if the money turns out to be somewhere that requires a different power/type of laser then that's what i'll get
02:30 PM JT-Shop: damn ups driver left my rare woods order down by the road...
02:31 PM roycroft: at least they weren't in his van, down by the river
02:33 PM JT-Shop: a shipping label was created at 6:15pm on May 30, 2023 in Riverhead NY
02:33 PM JT-Shop: they must be in another universe...
02:39 PM roycroft: they are probably using utc
02:39 PM roycroft: and yes, greenwich is arguably in a different universe :)
02:40 PM Jym: roycroft Hey now, leave stonehenge outta this ;)
02:40 PM roycroft: so, folks who use lasers
02:40 PM roycroft: teh interwebs are not helping me with this question
02:41 PM roycroft: i need to edge glue some boards together to make them wider, and then laser engrave the wide boards
02:41 PM roycroft: what glue would you use for that?
02:42 PM roycroft: my initial thought was hide glue, but these signs are going to be outdoors, and hide glue would be the worst for that
02:42 PM roycroft: even if i domino the boards together
02:42 PM roycroft: i may have to do some testing
02:44 PM Jym: roycroft FWIW... the cement in plywood (as example) to laminate the layers together can effect the laser's ability to cut/engrave. It's usually denser than the layers itself. If you are going to engrave on board that has been glued up, you might see the "glue line" in the final result. It might appear darker than everythng else.
02:44 PM roycroft: yes, that is my concern
02:45 PM roycroft: for the most part, i'll be filling the engraved areas with paint or opaque epoxy, so it may not make much of a difference
02:45 PM Jym: polymer glues might be questionable, MAYBE try regular old wood glues as see what you get for results?
02:46 PM roycroft: i'm thinking of testing with a standard two part epoxy, such as west systems, titebond ii, titebond iii, and some kind of urea formaldehyde glue
02:46 PM roycroft: ca glue wouldn't hold up well, i should think
02:47 PM roycroft: original titebond is hardly any more water/moisture resistant than elmer's white glue
02:48 PM Jym: IF yu are going to paint/epoxy over what you've engraved, then might be a moot point
02:48 PM roycroft: right
02:48 PM roycroft: although sometimes i might not
02:48 PM roycroft: so it's still worth figuring out
02:48 PM * roycroft likes options
02:49 PM * roycroft doesn't mind boxes, as long as he's not stuck in one with no means of escape
02:49 PM roycroft: the paint filling part hasn't gone as well as i'd like yet, btw
02:49 PM roycroft: but i think i can make it better
02:50 PM roycroft: i am getting too much bleeding into the unetched part
02:50 PM JT-Shop: I've not had good luck with paint filling unless I can sand the surface clean to remove overage
02:50 PM roycroft: that's not working out as well as i'd like
02:50 PM roycroft: i'm testing with an open grain wood - ash
02:50 PM roycroft: i've been spraying it with shellac, in various thicknesses, prior to etching
02:51 PM roycroft: then filling, then sanding the paint and shellac off
02:51 PM roycroft: but i'm still getting bleeding - i suspect it's the raw etched surfaces bleeding paint underneath the shellac
02:51 PM roycroft: so next i'll try a thin coat of shellac, then etch, then spray more shellac, then fill with paint
02:52 PM roycroft: i also picked up some acrylic paints over the weekend - i have been testing with testor's model paint, which is solvent-based
02:52 PM roycroft: and which takes hours to dry when applied thickly
02:54 PM roycroft: wow
02:55 PM roycroft: a cnc machine that comes with both a spindle and a laser head for <$289
02:55 PM roycroft: that must be a really industrial grade machine
02:55 PM roycroft: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07X3F8878
02:55 PM travis_farmer: lol
02:56 PM roycroft: it just reeks of quality and stability
02:56 PM roycroft: i'm surprised it doesn't have the name "cincinnatti" or "hardinge" on it
02:58 PM roycroft: that's the "extra large" model, too, for that price
02:58 PM roycroft: which in american english means "small"
02:59 PM roycroft: they go from "extra large" to "full size" to "max size" to "maximum size"
03:00 PM roycroft: 30x18 engraving size, so "extra large" actually means "tiny"
03:01 PM travis_farmer: i have one similar... it now collects dust as a reminder to not be stupid...
03:09 PM roycroft: it's probably useful for a few things
03:10 PM roycroft: if someone gave me one of those i would use the spindle for engraving metals, assuming the spindle was fast enough
03:10 PM roycroft: it probably needs to be 24,000-30,000rpm to be useful
03:11 PM * JT-Shop watches lightburn tutorials
03:11 PM travis_farmer: the one i have is just a little DC motor. not much torque. i think it was made to engrave wood
03:12 PM roycroft: jt-shop: when i got my laser engraver, i found that the crosshair locating beam was not offset from the actual beam properly
03:12 PM roycroft: that caused me some problems
03:12 PM roycroft: i finally found a way to adjust the offset in lightburn, but then my 20w laser head arrived, and it worked fine without adjustment
03:13 PM roycroft: although i am using the main laser beam itself for framing now
03:13 PM roycroft: and that's something you can configure in lightburn - you don't need to load the bundled software to switch back and forth
03:13 PM JT-Shop: ok
03:44 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, by the time you get it, roycroft can tutor you
03:47 PM JT-Shop: I'm hoping it won't take long
03:47 PM Tom_L: the rotary should be fun to play with
03:47 PM JT-Shop: on another note it's official the status is 3800 as shown on the dealers order desk along with the VIN
03:48 PM Tom_L: lemme know when it's 6000 :)
03:48 PM JT-Shop: that's what I'm thinking of, I was going to toss out a small insulated thing but kept it to purn
03:48 PM JT-Shop: you'll know...
03:48 PM * JT-Shop goes to bushhog around the dead tree
03:53 PM Unterhausen: everyone buying machine tools, but I bought some new crocs. Hopefully the chips don't go right through them like they do the old ones
03:55 PM Tom_L: new & improved crocks?
04:00 PM Unterhausen: they are off-road crocs
04:00 PM Unterhausen: I don't think there is any significant difference, the strap is cloth
04:01 PM Unterhausen: "all-terrain clogs"
04:01 PM Unterhausen: they actually have an off-road version that's different
04:10 PM wiredcat: guys i've been introduced to this channle, guy said that maybe you can point me in right direction, i want to buy a cnc machine but i've nvere used one basically i want to make this part: https://i.imgur.com/208eJX3.jpg, thing is i have no idea how do you even start with carving out this thing in cnc? you pass a model to some software then you do what you have somehow to position that, how do you tell the cnc the initial material
04:10 PM wiredcat: dimensions so it knows when to start carving etc?from
04:26 PM FinboySlick: wiredcat: As it is now, this would be pretty hard to machine.
04:30 PM Unterhausen: in general though, a cam program takes your cad design and then you set the material sizes. There are decent videos about how to do that using freecad
04:32 PM wiredcat: ok that clears everything
04:33 PM wiredcat: now i know what to do thanks
04:33 PM FinboySlick: Out of curiosity, what do you plan to do?
04:37 PM wiredcat: folding machete...
04:38 PM FinboySlick: I thought you meant that you know what to do to machine the part.
04:41 PM wiredcat: yeah
04:41 PM wiredcat: oh
04:41 PM wiredcat: dude just clarified everything
04:42 PM FinboySlick: So you're going to install a CAM program and press a button and the machine will make your part? ;)
04:44 PM Unterhausen: there are videos about how to machine both sides of a part too. It's not that complex of a part, just leave it connected to the outside of the waste block and only cut it loose once both sides are done
04:44 PM Unterhausen: unless I'm missing something
04:45 PM FinboySlick: Well... Milling cutters are round. That slot in the middle will not have flat ends.
04:45 PM wiredcat: didin't understand the process of starting the machinign itself
04:46 PM FinboySlick: You can only have 'sharp' inside corners in two of the three dimensions.
04:48 PM FinboySlick: What mateterial do you plan to use for the part?
04:49 PM wiredcat: i don't know
04:49 PM wiredcat: stell is out of my reach for now
04:49 PM wiredcat: i will need to carve it out from maybe wood
04:49 PM wiredcat: then do a steel mold
04:50 PM Tom_L: how many do you plan to make?
04:50 PM wiredcat: 500
04:50 PM wiredcat: if the main one will sustain tests
04:50 PM FinboySlick: What's the overall size?
04:51 PM wiredcat: folded 21.1719 cm length, 4.21875 cm height, 4.21875 span
04:52 PM FinboySlick: BTW, if you need 500 folding machettes, I hope you are not in Rwanda.
04:52 PM Tom_L: forging would be better than casting steel
04:52 PM wiredcat: unfolded 54.9884 cm
04:53 PM FinboySlick: Is that part the handle?
04:53 PM wiredcat: it is the middle
04:53 PM wiredcat: you want a screenshot of whole
04:53 PM wiredcat: ?
04:54 PM FinboySlick: It might help figure out a good approach to what you're trying to do, yes.
04:55 PM wiredcat: i dunno man, i don't want to waste your time
04:55 PM wiredcat: thing is i know exactly what to do
04:55 PM wiredcat: maybe i will struggle a bit with writing cnc algorithm
04:55 PM wiredcat: but ill handle it
04:56 PM FinboySlick: By the look of it, I think you'll have harder problems with physical reality than the CNC parts.
04:56 PM wiredcat: each rail is 2.5 mm thick
04:56 PM FinboySlick: The rails are the red parts?
04:57 PM wiredcat: yep
04:58 PM wiredcat: in this pic i posted here i had to shrink them to adjust for 3d printer blobs and inaccuracy
04:58 PM roycroft: that part should be pretty straightforward to machine with a smallish mill out of aluminium
04:58 PM roycroft: and it's pretty simple, so conversational mode should work fine
04:59 PM roycroft: you should not need a fancy cad program with cam software to do it
04:59 PM XXCoder: roycroft: what is fine for few isnt for 500 parts
04:59 PM XXCoder: cnc definitely required for 500
05:00 PM wiredcat: yo xxxcoder
05:00 PM XXCoder: hey
05:00 PM roycroft: i'm talking about cnc
05:00 PM roycroft: but conversational mode, not cad/cam mode
05:00 PM roycroft: i.e. you program the moves into the cnc controller directly
05:00 PM wiredcat: i want to make working prototype so i can make molds
05:00 PM XXCoder: that many parts, I would also create fixtures for 2 stages
05:00 PM wiredcat: i don't have stuff that can mill hard steel
05:00 PM XXCoder: ahh
05:01 PM XXCoder: roy ahh so thats what its called. I once ran a mystery machine that did exatly that
05:01 PM XXCoder: never could find anything about it
05:02 PM roycroft: as someone mentioned previously, the slot in the middle isn't going to have square corners if you mill it unless you hand file those features later
05:02 PM roycroft: so determine whether you need those corners to be square or not
05:02 PM XXCoder: yeah. sharpest radius you can get is something like 0.1
05:02 PM roycroft: or whether you can overcut the corners to create the square
05:02 PM FinboySlick: Oh roycroft, you wound me reducing me to mere 'someone'.... I thought you loved me.
05:02 PM wiredcat: that doesnt matter these slots are just to lock the middle and front when folded
05:02 PM roycroft: don't take it personally, finboyslick
05:03 PM roycroft: i am old and forgetful, not mean :)
05:03 PM XXCoder: then it should be fine yeah
05:03 PM XXCoder: expecially if blocks to go in those slots also has small radius
05:03 PM roycroft: linuxcnc can do conversational mode
05:03 PM FinboySlick: I must admit that I don't understand the design at all.
05:04 PM roycroft: i have no idea what the part is
05:04 PM roycroft: i just know what it looks like
05:04 PM XXCoder: bridgeport I ran solely had conversational mode
05:04 PM wiredcat: this is the model but the one with shrinked edges so 3d printed parts match https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GZfFB2-69geQGvg-zYL8qxr4zoegdgo5/view?usp=sharing
05:04 PM wiredcat: if anyone is interested lol
05:04 PM XXCoder: it was bit weird. they had 3 in row but rest of bridgeports was normal ones purely manual
05:04 PM roycroft: also, those drawings aren't all the same part
05:06 PM roycroft: oh, maybe they are
05:06 PM roycroft: there just aren't enough drawings
05:07 PM roycroft: but that's not particularly relevant to the current discussion, other than if we discuss fixturing more
05:11 PM * roycroft is done with work, and has been able to gain access to most servers/network elements today
05:11 PM roycroft: i think it's time to make some more test cards for my laser engraver/cutter
05:12 PM roycroft: and to do some more finish removal on the enclosure for said machine
05:13 PM XXCoder: you can work on it while its working
05:13 PM XXCoder: probably lol
05:14 PM roycroft: yes, because the laser machine is not in the enclosure yet
05:14 PM roycroft: because the enclosure has never been fully-assembled
05:14 PM roycroft: and i just realised that for the paint removal i should use my rotex sander
05:14 PM roycroft: i only got it last fall, and i often don't remember to use it when it's the perfect tool
05:15 PM roycroft: it should remove paint about 5x faster than a ro sander
05:16 PM FinboySlick: I bought a plastic-pooper, comes in Thursday.
05:16 PM roycroft: a dog made out of plastic?
05:16 PM XXCoder: what brand plastic pooper?
05:16 PM FinboySlick: FLSUN V400
05:17 PM XXCoder: an delta. surpised
05:17 PM roycroft: a delta squirter
05:17 PM FinboySlick: Yeah. It seems pretty decent.
05:18 PM roycroft: i'd like to play with a delta machine some time
05:18 PM XXCoder: I have one, but havent worked on it at all
05:18 PM FinboySlick: It's not like it's going to see all that much use, but it's always handy to have and I've only heard great things about that one.
05:19 PM XXCoder: if youre willing to come here i can give you it
05:19 PM XXCoder: it has interesting stuff, like real j-head
05:19 PM XXCoder: needs repair but you have another printer to do it

05:29 PM Scopeuk2 is now known as Scopeuk
05:38 PM JT-Shop: roycroft, did you get a free parts kit with your d1?
05:41 PM Unterhausen: XX how do you cut and paste from hexchat?
05:41 PM XXCoder: ctrl shift c for copy
05:41 PM XXCoder: paste is normal ctrl v'
05:42 PM Unterhausen: thanksk
05:43 PM Unterhausen: I have a partially completed delta printer
05:44 PM Unterhausen: I made a throwaway comment on redit and it has over 1000 upvotes. scary
05:44 PM XXCoder: random happens
05:44 PM Unterhausen: need to look at how to mute it
05:47 PM JT-Shop: ctrl c works for me
05:48 PM XXCoder: jt depends on setting, default is ctrl shift c
05:48 PM XXCoder: for hexchat specifically
05:48 PM JT-Shop: I've never set anything
05:48 PM JT-Shop: in hexchat
05:48 PM XXCoder: odd.
05:49 PM JT-Shop: and I don't see any setting for that in hexchat
05:50 PM Unterhausen: I thought ctrl c worked, but then it stopped working
05:50 PM Unterhausen: and I totally could be wrong.
05:50 PM Unterhausen: my reddit comment is accelerating, it's up to 2000 upvotes now
05:51 PM Unterhausen: turned off notifications
05:51 PM XXCoder: no idea then. its always beem ctrl shift c for me. I used hexchat in windows before I moved on to linux mint too, but I cant recall if it was just ctrl c or not.
05:53 PM JT-Shop: both ctrl shift c and ctrl c work to copy for me
06:03 PM * JT-Shop calls it a night
06:04 PM Unterhausen: JT is the chosen one
06:04 PM XXCoder: hope nothing happen when ne erm jt is in bed
06:11 PM Tom_L: Unterhausen, i left click to hilite the txt then right click button to paste

06:12 PM XXCoder: is that hexchat? tried that didnt work
06:12 PM Tom_L: yup
06:12 PM Tom_L: works on all of them
06:12 PM XXCoder: well it doesnt for me
06:12 PM XXCoder: 2.16.0 here
06:12 PM Tom_L: if the txt turns blue with the left button it's in the paste buffer automatically
06:13 PM Tom_L: automatically
06:13 PM Tom_L: right mouse paste
06:13 PM XXCoder: its select then middle click for linux. hexchat is only one that it doesnt work in
06:14 PM Tom_L: mine's a 2 button mouse on this one
06:14 PM XXCoder: https://imgur.com/c0ch8IS.png
06:14 PM XXCoder: mine isnt enabled, yours I guess are enabled.
06:15 PM Tom_L: mine is a default install
06:15 PM XXCoder: i cant remember what defaults are lol been using it for so long
06:16 PM Tom_L: i got so many i try to keep them default
06:16 PM Centurion_Dan1 is now known as Centurion_Dan
07:07 PM Centurion_Dan1 is now known as Centurion_Dan
07:11 PM wiredcat: allright good night, be nice to XXXcoder

07:12 PM XXCoder: https://youtu.be/hjcqsBKYUOE casting your own telescope glass blank
07:41 PM roycroft: nice - i just redid the irrigation system for the herb bed i've been revamping
07:42 PM roycroft: no more standing around with a hose to irrigate
07:42 PM * roycroft gets on to paint removal now
07:43 PM XXCoder: fancy
07:43 PM XXCoder: did you see my offer earlier?
08:18 PM roycroft: no
08:19 PM roycroft: other than the offer to steal my pie
08:20 PM * roycroft just received his tickets to yonder mountain string band/railroad earth/leftover salmon
08:20 PM roycroft: three of my favorite bands, all playing full sets the same night, at an outdoor venue here in eugene
08:21 PM * roycroft figures it's going to be a late night - it's a good thing it's a friday night show
08:21 PM XXCoder: oh lol well I have kossel clear delta
08:21 PM roycroft: nice
08:21 PM XXCoder: it was kickstarter one with real j-head hotend that needs maintance. overall it needs maintance and fixes
08:21 PM roycroft: and you want to trade it for a strawberry-rhubarb pie?
08:21 PM XXCoder: if youre willing to drive up here (4 hours drive one way) you can have it for free
08:22 PM roycroft: hmm
08:22 PM roycroft: i don't know if i can do that before the fair
08:22 PM roycroft: but it's something i'd be interested in, if you still have it after
08:22 PM roycroft: and i would not expect you to save it for me of course
08:22 PM XXCoder: yeah i wanted to fix it up and play with it but I have utterly no energy to do anything so you can have it.
08:22 PM roycroft: cool
08:23 PM roycroft: the fair is july 7-9
08:23 PM XXCoder: thats fine
08:23 PM roycroft: i'll make a note to talk to you about it after then
08:23 PM XXCoder: remind me, I will forget
08:23 PM roycroft: i've been thinking of going camping in washington for my august vacation
08:23 PM roycroft: maybe that would work out
08:24 PM roycroft: i haven't been to washington in years
08:24 PM XXCoder: good, you will be reminded on how superior wa is ;)
08:24 PM XXCoder: kidding
08:24 PM roycroft: i almost went up to bellingham last year, but that did not work out
08:24 PM roycroft: i expect i'll be reminded that all washington drivers are not as insane as the ones who come down to oregon
08:25 PM XXCoder: unless its raining
08:25 PM roycroft: i always considered washington drivers overly polite when i lived there
08:25 PM XXCoder: why is there always 3-4 accients each rain
08:25 PM roycroft: overly polite to the point of being irritating and dangerous
08:25 PM XXCoder: and it was only short route to work
08:25 PM roycroft: loggers on the peninsula notwithstanding
08:25 PM roycroft: they are utterly insane
08:26 PM roycroft: however, washington drivers who come down here think this is california or something, and drive like the jerks from california do
08:26 PM roycroft: one thing i can say for california drivers - they are consistent
08:26 PM roycroft: they are jerks both at home and when travelling out of state :)
08:27 PM XXCoder: fun lol
08:27 PM roycroft: oddly, oregon loggers are not insane
08:27 PM roycroft: they're more like washington drivers at home - they drive way too slow and conservatively, and are way too polite
08:29 PM XXCoder: lol im one of those. even before dizzyness and vision not tracking thing
08:29 PM roycroft: when i encounter loggers in washington, especially on 101 between port angeles and forks, they go 80mph on the narrow, winding road, and will mow you over if you get in their way
08:29 PM roycroft: here in oregon, on straighter, wider roads, loggers go 40-50 in a 55
08:29 PM XXCoder: I once tried to go to top left corner of wa state
08:29 PM XXCoder: man roads is super narrow and super twisty
08:30 PM XXCoder: got blocked by goverment since covid was major then 2020
08:30 PM XXCoder: still, it was enjoyable drive but not one I would do now, even if i dont have issues i have now
08:33 PM roycroft: yeah, it's a pretty drive, especially around crescent lake
08:34 PM roycroft: but there are all those insane loggers who make it really stressful
08:34 PM XXCoder: it was very quiet for me. I rarely saw anyone else
08:34 PM roycroft: so the sanding went swimmingly
08:34 PM XXCoder: nice
08:34 PM roycroft: when i got the rotex out i was in great shape - i got about 2/3 of it done in less than a half hour
08:35 PM roycroft: it's time to make dinner now, so i won't get that finished tonight
08:35 PM roycroft: i have to go to a data center after dinner and reprogram a firewall
08:35 PM roycroft: but i should be back to painting tomorrow or thursday - i have a board meeting tomorrow early in the evening, but i think it will be brief
08:46 PM Unterhausen: roycroft what kind of irrigation system did you put in?
08:46 PM roycroft: a soaker hose
08:46 PM roycroft: which is perfect for this bed
08:47 PM roycroft: there's a container with mojito mint, and i have a drip irrigation line for that
08:48 PM Unterhausen: what brand drip irrigation?
08:48 PM roycroft: i don't recall
08:48 PM roycroft: i put that in years ago
08:48 PM roycroft: they're all very similar, though
08:48 PM Unterhausen: I was looking for something and gave up
08:48 PM Unterhausen: too many choices
08:49 PM roycroft: i just have a 1/4" feeder line to the container, and 3 or 4 1 gallon/hour emitters
08:51 PM roycroft: well, chip roy did not get his way
08:52 PM roycroft: so now there's a chance that the us won't default, and spin us into an economic crisis and deep recession
08:52 PM ithe2guu[m]: I am using analog control (0-10v) with a 7i96s
