12:48 AM Deejay: moin
04:24 AM JT-Cave: morning
04:33 AM travis_farmer[m]: JT: "Travis_farmer did you see the C2 in my photo", umm, cant say as i did. saw some chickens... ;-)
04:34 AM travis_farmer[m]: Morning ☕️
04:35 AM xxcoder[m]: https://tenor.com/view/%CE%BA%CE%B1%CE%BB%CE%B7%CE%BC%CE%B5%CF%81%CE%B1-good-morning-coffee-big-cup-sun-gif-17762366
04:35 AM JT-Cave: scroll back a bit
04:35 AM travis_farmer[m]: lol
04:35 AM travis_farmer[m]: big cup ;-)
04:36 AM XXCoder: sadly irc bridge is semi broken. seems libera and matrix implemented bridging stuff
04:36 AM JT-Cave: Are You Sure to Give up 0.0 Points?
04:36 AM JT-Cave: Your order None can be rewarded with 0.0 xTool points if you register to become an xTool member. These points worth $0.0 .
04:36 AM XXCoder: lol
04:39 AM TurBoss[m]: morning
04:44 AM JT-Cave: yo
05:03 AM Loetmichel: JT-Cave: i have a 40W co2 laser cutter at the company. What do you want to know?
05:06 AM Loetmichel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcXoe3QBUzA <- that'll be the one
05:07 AM XXCoder: controlled by linuxcnc?
05:09 AM JT-Cave: I was looking for a laser engraver and settled on the xTool D1 Pro
05:09 AM Loetmichel: nah, its called "K40 whisperer". Those lasers basically have a GRBL board inside that does the gcode-> movement translation. Very similar to 3d-printers. They only need something to send the gcode directly to an USB-serial
05:41 AM JT-Cave: rooster just crowed
06:40 AM JT-Cave: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zr4CtxVYzhE
07:00 AM perry_j1987: morning
07:24 AM * JT-Cave starts his chicken day
07:25 AM skunkworks[m]: lol - just thinking I need to make some coffee and see this
07:34 AM perry_j1987: i think today is the day i finally windex my laptop's screen
07:35 AM travis_farmer: is the bridge down?
07:36 AM travis_farmer: looks like it...
07:38 AM travis_farmer: Morning, to all the people i missed across the bridge. :-)
07:44 AM perry_j1987: morning
08:38 AM JT-Shop: travis_farmer, did you scroll back and see the C2 setup for drag racing?
09:50 AM Tom_L: light shower this am 83F for today
09:51 AM travis_farmer: JT-Shop: i checked back to yesterday on log, and couldn't find it (just came in from working outside)
09:52 AM travis_farmer: wait... maybe i just found it
09:52 AM travis_farmer: posted Saturday?
09:53 AM travis_farmer: red, with side-pipes?
09:53 AM Tom_L: https://www.corvsport.com/1964-corvette-options/
09:53 AM Tom_L: that's the only one i saw other than the club link
09:55 AM Tom_L: https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/edrRRomwVPlUXAFTZzjvIhAV/20230527_102111.jpg
09:55 AM Tom_L: that one looks like it's been tubbed
09:56 AM travis_farmer: i think it is this one... oh, yeah, you beat me to it Tom_L ;-)
09:58 AM JT-Shop: yep with big slicks
09:58 AM travis_farmer: yeah, that one looks nice, but i don't think it would work well on the road anymore ;-)
09:58 AM JT-Shop: Tom_L, what is tubbed?
09:58 AM Tom_L: they're not big unless there's maybe a foot between them :)
09:59 AM JT-Shop: actually it did not slow down for any of the curves on the mystery ride
09:59 AM Tom_L: JT-Shop, they cut the fenders out and 'tub' it with round sheet
09:59 AM JT-Shop: I should have taken a photo of the back
09:59 AM travis_farmer: really...
09:59 AM travis_farmer: hmmm
09:59 AM JT-Shop: ah ok
09:59 AM Tom_L: to acomodate wide tires
10:00 AM travis_farmer: i think they use a narrower rear axle setup too
10:00 AM JT-Shop: it has a nitrous setup
10:00 AM Tom_L: they'd have to
10:00 AM Tom_L: or get offset rims
10:01 AM JT-Shop: the guy sitting on the light base is the owner
10:01 AM Tom_L: or both
10:01 AM JT-Shop: we parked next to the jeep lol
10:01 AM Tom_L: so you should show up in your C5 one week then the C8 the next... really confus em
10:02 AM travis_farmer: yeah, i wish i could afford to get my father another C2, so he could revisit his youth in his old age.
10:03 AM JT-Shop: they are crazy high in price now
10:03 AM travis_farmer: i bet
10:03 AM Tom_L: so that's the mystery ride you were referring to earlier
10:04 AM JT-Shop: yep
10:04 AM JT-Shop: I missed 1/2 of the corvettes in my photo, forgot to pick wide angle
10:05 AM Tom_L: they have meets here but not just vettes
10:05 AM travis_farmer: what's the mini-van doing there... that's not a corvette ;-)
10:05 AM JT-Shop: ended up in old St. Genevieve which was very cool
10:05 AM Tom_L: usually once a year they block off downtown for a few blocks and line them with old cars
10:05 AM Tom_L: some are really nice
10:05 AM JT-Shop: he is a bicycle rider and parked there before we got there
10:06 AM travis_farmer: oh, lol
10:06 AM JT-Shop: https://visitstegen.com/
10:06 AM JT-Shop: he even offered to move his van if it was in the way
10:06 AM JT-Shop: of course it was not in the way
10:08 AM JT-Shop: https://visitstegen.com/2016/06/sirros-restaurant/
10:08 AM JT-Shop: we ate there
10:08 AM JT-Shop: https://www.sirrosrestaurant.com/
10:08 AM JT-Shop: better link
10:09 AM travis_farmer: if i had a dream car right now, it would be the Chevy Bolt EUV ;-)
10:09 AM Tom_L: for god sake why?
10:09 AM travis_farmer: because it is better on gas ;-)
10:10 AM travis_farmer: LMAO
10:10 AM Tom_L: :)
10:10 AM JT-Shop: an electric Elio would be better :)
10:11 AM JT-Shop: https://www.eliomotors.com/
10:11 AM travis_farmer: ROFLMAO :-)
10:13 AM JT-Shop: I wish the management of this country would back things like the Elio instead of wasting billions...
10:14 AM JT-Shop: so I have 2 NIB O2 sensors for a 1997-2003 C5 listed for $80 including shipping, they sell for $70 each plus shipping
10:14 AM JT-Shop: had a guy offer me $50...
10:16 AM * JT-Shop goes to do something... not sure what yet but something
10:31 AM roycroft: i have a garden bed that i've been working on all weekend to finish today - it is almost done
10:32 AM roycroft: then i have to go to the fair to do some measurements for a new booth fixture
10:32 AM roycroft: and then i need to work on my laser enclosure
10:32 AM * travis_farmer has been working on his 5th-wheel camper renovation...
10:32 AM roycroft: so not a life of leisure for me
10:33 AM * Tom_L thinks roycroft should have some lasered goods for the fair
10:37 AM JT-Shop: roycroft, got any photos of the laser enclosure?
10:37 AM Tom_L: he had a cad rendering he posted
10:40 AM JT-Shop: I think I saw that...
10:41 AM Tom_L: that's all i've seen. i don't think he's posted actual pics as he is refinishing it again
10:41 AM roycroft: no, i don't
10:41 AM roycroft: because the paint job did not work ou, and have to sand it down and repaint it
10:42 AM JT-Shop: ok, just wondering... but not interested in the paint just the structure
10:43 AM * JT-Shop has some left over Lexan...
10:43 AM roycroft: it looks like the cad drawing
10:43 AM JT-Shop: lol
10:43 AM Tom_L: i'd hope so
10:43 AM roycroft: i got some special acrylic for the view window
10:43 AM roycroft: that absorbs 450nm light
10:44 AM * Tom_L goes to check the kiddy pool for the 20ish kiddies
10:44 AM JT-Shop: link?
10:46 AM * JT-Shop goes to twirl the marinating chicken
10:51 AM roycroft: https://jtechphotonics.com/?product=445nm-laser-shielding-24-x-12
10:53 AM roycroft: it was $52.36 including shipping
10:53 AM JT-Shop: thanks
10:54 AM roycroft: have you decided on the xtool d1 pro?
10:58 AM JT-Shop: it's on order
10:58 AM JT-Shop: I got the rotary as well
10:59 AM roycroft: cool
10:59 AM roycroft: i'll probably end up getting the rotary eventually too
10:59 AM roycroft: but not right now
11:00 AM JT-Shop: Velcro broke my favorite chicken wine glass so I can see some glass etching in the future
11:00 AM roycroft: i'm attaching the base of my enclosure to the upper part with dominos, but they will just be dry fit, so i can remove it easily later on to cut an opening for a rotary chamber
11:00 AM roycroft: yeah, glass etching would be nice
11:01 AM roycroft: but this is what i am anticipating
11:01 AM roycroft: i'm on the emerald ash borer task force at the fair
11:01 AM roycroft: and i've volunteered to make some signs - we're going to do some education about the borer, and want to mark a grove of trees by species
11:02 AM roycroft: i'm going to laser engrave the signs
11:02 AM roycroft: so what i figure is going to happen is that as soon as i get my enclousure finished, we're going to determine that we need bigger signs than my laser can make
11:02 AM JT-Shop: cool, what material is the signs?
11:02 AM roycroft: and i'll end up buying the extension rails for it
11:02 AM JT-Shop: got the extension kit?
11:02 AM roycroft: i will probably use cedar
11:03 AM roycroft: my plan is to engrave the text then fill with epoxy or paint
11:03 AM roycroft: so the text will really stand out
11:03 AM roycroft: and i want them to be durable, so cedar makes sense
11:04 AM roycroft: one of the task force members wants to put chains around the signs and hang them from the trees
11:04 AM roycroft: so they can be put up before the fair and taken down after
11:04 AM roycroft: but that's a lot of work, and we're trying to convince them that we should just attach the signs to posts and pound them into the ground in front of the trees, and leave them there year-round
11:06 AM roycroft: i should probaly think hard about the extension kit now, before i sand down the enclosure parts and redo them
11:06 AM JT-Shop: I'm going to get it for sure, but not right now
11:06 AM JT-Shop: but before I build an enclosure
11:06 AM roycroft: i should measure the space where the engraver is going to live
11:07 AM roycroft: it's going on a shelving unit that houses my 3d printer
11:07 AM roycroft: if there's room for the extension kit perhaps i should get it now
11:07 AM roycroft: if i'm honest, it's going to take hours to sand the paint off the current enclosure and i'm going to hate every minute of that
11:08 AM roycroft: i'd almost rather rebuild it from scratch
11:10 AM JT-Shop: I'll be interested in seeing how the signs come out, I want to make a parking --> sign for River Ridge Winery... the one they have looks pretty bad lol
11:11 AM JT-Shop: what material did you make your enclosure from?
11:11 AM roycroft: mdf
11:12 AM JT-Shop: 1/4"?
11:12 AM roycroft: 5/8"
11:12 AM JT-Shop: did the paint make it swell?
11:12 AM roycroft: no, not at all
11:12 AM JT-Shop: I know titebond III will make it swell bad
11:12 AM roycroft: but the primer i used was killz original, which is solvent-based
11:13 AM roycroft: killz is by far the best primer for mdf, especially for the edges
11:13 AM JT-Shop: didn't know that
11:13 AM roycroft: it contains shellac, which seals the edges really well
11:14 AM roycroft: i used to seal mdf edges with a 1:1 mixture of titebond and water
11:14 AM roycroft: but then i discovered that killz works even better than that
11:15 AM roycroft: ok, it's time to head out to do chores
11:34 AM roycroft: well this is good
11:34 AM roycroft: i just measured, and while i would be able to fit the laser with extension rails on the shelf next to the 3d printer, there would be no room for the working spool of filament unless i figured out a way to mount it inside the printer footprint
11:35 AM roycroft: so i don't have room for the laser with extension rails
11:35 AM roycroft: that will save me money, time, and hassle
11:35 AM * roycroft gets on with his day, not worrying about the extension rails
12:06 PM * ithe2guu[m] uploaded an image: (20KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/STwxchIGOgFJFJpftZXVTIDu/SmartSelect_20230529_100308_Samsung_Notes.jpg >
12:06 PM ithe2guu[m]: What does the NC pin on the spindle section of the 7i96s do?
12:07 PM pcw-home: NC = no connection
12:07 PM travis_farmer[m]: just guessing, Not Connected
12:09 PM travis_farmer: pcw-home: your post was lost in the bridge... didn't show up
12:11 PM ithe2guu[m]: Ok so it does nothing
12:11 PM travis_farmer: correct
12:12 PM ithe2guu[m]: That makes sense
12:15 PM ithe2guu[m]: Is there any reason why I need to use a supply voltage of 10v for my spindle in analog mode? I am trying to use a 12v supply voltage right now, but pncconfig doesn't seem to want me to go past 10v
12:17 PM pcw-home: Normally the 10V comes from the drive (the potentiometer supply)
12:18 PM travis_farmer853: pcw-home on IRC said this: Normally the 10V comes from the drive (the potentiometer supply)
12:20 PM travis_farmer: pcw-home: i relayed, as IRC --> Matrix/Discord is broken
12:25 PM ithe2guu[m]: Is there a reason not to use 12v?
12:28 PM travis_farmer853: i think you are referring to the field voltage, but i think SPINDLE+ outputs a 0-10V analog signal to control the spindle speed
12:29 PM travis_farmer853: let me pull up the 7i96S manual...
12:32 PM pcw-home: You can use 5 through 20V
12:33 PM travis_farmer853: pcw-home says: You can use 5 through 20V
12:34 PM travis_farmer853: sadly, i gotta go work outside, so i can't relay from IRC... 😦
12:35 PM pcw-home: Thanks for relaying

12:50 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
01:51 PM JT-Shop: so I've had two offers for my NIB O2 sensors that I'm asking $80 for the pair... first offer $50 second offer $45 LOL
01:51 PM Tom_L: reply with 85
01:51 PM Tom_L: did you replace those on the C5?
01:54 PM * Tom_L is done trimming trees for the day
01:55 PM JT-Shop: yes, when I did the transmission but I bought at first 1997-2003 front O2 sensors not knowing 2004 is different
01:55 PM Tom_L: oh
01:55 PM * travis_farmer is done working outside for the day :-)
01:56 PM JT-Shop: I saw C5 and ordered them then when I opened the box... oh crap
01:56 PM Tom_L: heh
01:56 PM JT-Shop: these cost $60 each plus shipping
01:57 PM JT-Shop: one guy compared them to denso sensors which are the cheapest ones you can get, claiming they are made by denso
01:58 PM JT-Shop: maybe so but the OEM ones are much better so everyone on the web says stay away from denso
01:59 PM Tom_L: https://www.electronicshub.org/best-oxygen-sensors/
02:00 PM Tom_L: in general
02:00 PM Tom_L: seems denso are for toyota etc
02:03 PM Tom_L: i'm sure mfg standards vary
02:05 PM JT-Shop: https://www.rockauto.com/en/parts/general+motors,19178930,oxygen+(o2)+sensor,5132
02:06 PM Tom_L: there has to be a quality difference
02:13 PM JT-Shop: exactly
02:14 PM JT-Shop: if I had bought denso I'd just toss them and not try to sell them on the forum
02:15 PM ithe2guu[m]: ok
02:21 PM perry_j1987: grr broke tap and fixed it and then broke second tap lol
02:30 PM * JT-Shop stopped breaking taps when he started looking at the before using them
02:30 PM JT-Shop: just got an amazon delivery in a usps truck...
03:13 PM roguish[m]: believe it or not taps get dull, and then break pretty easily........
03:14 PM roguish[m]: found that out the hard way
03:14 PM roguish[m]: doh
03:15 PM roguish[m]: what's up with the bridge to the other Linuxcnc chat thing?????
03:15 PM Tom_L: we've been getting several amazon in personal vehicles
03:16 PM xxcoder[m]: sorta broken. matrix and irc liberia have setup services. turboss is figuring it out
03:16 PM Tom_L: hope so
03:16 PM roguish[m]: well, he's the best
03:29 PM XXCoder: oh bin is dust bath
04:48 PM travis_farmer: grilled kabobs for supper tonight! :-)
04:52 PM Tom_L: yum
04:57 PM JT[m]: If I see any pitting behind the cutting edge I put them in the Not so Sharp bucket
04:59 PM * JT[m] uploaded an image: (321KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/HWKIkQwriCoanFCoaVSxVsai/20230529_164159.jpg >
05:00 PM XXCoder: sigh 502 still. thankfully I could just go to discord to see picture
05:00 PM XXCoder: nice
05:15 PM Tom_L: 502.. the Gateway has been very bad today
05:16 PM Tom_L: i would but i have 2 logins and neither work
05:34 PM mits5782[m]: I find it weird that you keep grillilng chicken in your not-so-sharp bucket
06:50 PM roycroft: w
06:57 PM roycroft: my ip address changed today at home
06:57 PM roycroft: first time in years
06:57 PM roycroft: it takes me several hours to adjust all the packet filters on the devices i manage when this happens
06:58 PM roycroft: so i guess that is what tomorrow is all about during work
07:00 PM XXCoder: cant automate that?
07:01 PM roycroft: no
07:01 PM roycroft: not easily
07:01 PM roycroft: and since i only have to do it every few years i haven't put any effort into it
07:02 PM roycroft: i have back doors to the critical stuff, so it's not a huge deal to not have direct access to most of the devices right now
07:02 PM XXCoder: cool
07:09 PM Unterhaus__ is now known as Unterhausen
07:10 PM Unterhausen: dirt was on sale at home depot. smells suspiciously like cow poop
07:49 PM roycroft: then it's good dirt
07:49 PM * roycroft just popped the strawberry-rhubarb pie into the oven
07:49 PM * XXCoder steals it
07:49 PM roycroft: it's not very tasty yet
07:50 PM XXCoder: no worries ill bakje it here
07:50 PM XXCoder: ;)
07:50 PM roycroft: but in three hours, hopefully, it will be delicious
07:50 PM roycroft: just in time for a late dessert
07:50 PM XXCoder: nice
07:50 PM roycroft: it only takes an hour to bake, but it needs to sit for a couple hours so the filling will gel
07:55 PM XXCoder: reminded me of that time I temp worked as pastry worker at factory
07:56 PM XXCoder: I ordered a box of frozen pasties
07:56 PM XXCoder: damn it was so tasty when freshly cooked and still warm
07:56 PM XXCoder: decades later I still remember it lol
08:17 PM roycroft: pasties are things strippers put on thier boobs to avoid obscenity charges
08:18 PM roycroft: if they are frozen i should think that would just make matters worse
08:18 PM roycroft: not to mention making the stripper rather uncomfortable
08:18 PM XXCoder: its frozen UNCOOKED pastry
08:18 PM XXCoder: not frozen cooked pastry
