12:26 AM roycroft: simone giertz finally put out a new build video
12:36 AM roycroft: she made a robot arm out of art glass
01:00 AM Deejay: moin
02:44 AM XXCoder: what. blondihack video is out early today (12 am sat but still)
02:56 AM travis_farmer[m]: Morning ☕️
04:29 AM JT-Cave: morning
06:24 AM JT-Cave: must be time to blow out the windblows pc down here... it keeps shutting off
09:38 AM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
09:46 AM Jym: Morning
09:48 AM skunkworks[m]: morning!
10:04 AM tincho80: hi all! somebody ever managed to link the pin "gmoccapy.error" to an output pin like "[HMOT](CARD0).7i76.0.0.output-01"??? studied hal manual, forum, youtube, linuxcnc-wiki,.. but cannot get it working... any hints? many thanks!
10:12 AM JT-Shop: "cannnot get it working" does not describe what you did, what you got, what you expected
10:15 AM tincho80: ok, my bad. this what I tried:
10:15 AM tincho80: net warning tool-change => or2.0.in0
10:15 AM tincho80: net gmperror gmoccapy.error => or2.0.in1
10:15 AM tincho80: net yellow or2.0.out => [HMOT](CARD0).7i76.0.0.output-01
10:16 AM tincho80: that was in the file postgui.hal, tried similar things in mymachine.hal but no success.
10:17 AM tincho80: "net tool-change => [HMOT](CARD0).7i76.0.0.output-01" worked in mymachine.hal
10:22 AM tincho80: what i expect is: to turn on the yellow light, which is connected to "[HMOT](CARD0).7i76.0.0.output-01" if a "tool-change" is requested OR if the gui spits out a warning/error message. I tested all the pins in the halshow (gmoccapy-error. output-1, tool-change), it's all correct.
10:25 AM JT-Shop: net warning tool-change => or2.0.in0 I don't see a pin called tool-change are you sure you didn't mean iocontrol.0.tool-change?
10:26 AM Tom_L: oh now that would just be too easy
10:46 AM JT-Shop: damn close to nap time here... then a ride down to Clarkton to eat at the Clarktonion a crawfish place only open on Friday evening and Saturday
10:51 AM tincho80: YES you are right. that was linked by: net tool-change gmoccapy.toolchange-change <= iocontrol.0.tool-change
11:05 AM Tom_L: JT-Shop,
11:05 AM Tom_L: https://www.facebook.com/The-Clarktonian-541979269208372/?_rdr#!/The-Clarktonian-541979269208372/
11:05 AM Tom_L: They are sold out of crawfish for the weekend!
11:05 AM Tom_L: maybe that was last weekend
11:06 AM tincho80: bon appetit..!!
11:42 AM JT-Shop: they will have something to eat for sure
11:44 AM Tom_L: homemade sauce looks good
11:58 AM roycroft: jt-shop: wood slicer blades are on sale through the end of the month
11:59 AM JT-Shop: thanks
12:01 PM Unterhausen: linguists did a study an found out what you call crawfish can locate where you grew up with a decent amount of accuracy
12:01 PM JT-Shop: lol
12:02 PM Unterhausen: where I grew up, they were called "crawdaddies"
12:03 PM Unterhausen: any carbonated beverage was called "coke"
12:13 PM roycroft: "crawdads" or "crayfish", and "sodas" here
12:14 PM JT-Shop: where I grew up black bear was the best meat you could get... spruce hens didn't have enough meat to make a snack...
12:46 PM CaptHindsight[m]: in my neighborhood is was often "poc", poc-corn, soda-poc, "dah more ju know"
12:47 PM Unterhausen: looks like we might get the most minimal part of the storm that's just about to come through
12:47 PM Unterhausen: Doesn't make me too sad
12:48 PM CaptHindsight[m]: ~45% Ukrainian, 45% Puerto Rican
12:49 PM CaptHindsight[m]: 10% Italian Mob
12:49 PM Tom_L: and the 10% ran the place
12:55 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Chicago was very segregated back then, you literally did not cross some streets without expecting repercussions
12:56 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Unterhausen: the linguistics studies are fascinating, you can follow the migration of uhmericans through them
12:59 PM CaptHindsight[m]: this guy has a great video series https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1KP4ztKK0A
01:10 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://map.purpleair.com/1/mAQI/a10/p604800/cC0#5.99/45.578/-86.667 what is your air like?
01:14 PM Tom_L: better than china
01:23 PM CaptHindsight[m]: they hardly notice with all the suppression
01:23 PM CaptHindsight[m]: it's all Canada's fault this week
02:26 PM roycroft: it's always canada's fault, even when they have nothing to do with it
02:27 PM roycroft: as proof of that i point out that canadians always apologise for everything, even when what they're apologising for has nothing to do with them
04:16 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:37 PM XXCoder: interesting strat https://youtu.be/nC161Ni67-E
04:41 PM JT-Shop: yum
05:53 PM Unterhausen: I ordered a few things from amazon and they said they didn't want to come to my house twice so how about we get it there by monday
05:53 PM Unterhausen: that was fine by me
05:53 PM Unterhausen: now they sent me an email telling me the good news that one of the items is coming tomorrow
05:54 PM XXCoder: lol
06:06 PM Tom_L: they just want you to feel special
06:07 PM Tom_L: i did one from a chinese vendor that left amazon and never delivered
06:09 PM JT-Woodshop: ouch
06:09 PM XXCoder: "good news, your package will arrive in infinity days"
06:09 PM Tom_L: i disputed it and amazon just said too bad for you
06:10 PM XXCoder: that sucks, did you do a cc dispute?
06:10 PM Tom_L: wasn't that much..
06:12 PM Tom_L: but it seems amazon doesn't screen their vendors very well
06:18 PM * JT-Shop thinks he will take tomorrow off
06:18 PM Tom_L: good plan
06:18 PM XXCoder: yep
06:21 PM JT-Woodshop: the Clarktonian was very good
06:27 PM * JT-Woodshop wonders if he did enough to get the pump on the dehumidifier working or not?
06:32 PM roycroft: i hauled a yard of rock in my pickup today
06:32 PM roycroft: it's the first real load i've hauled in it
06:33 PM roycroft: i didn't even notice a difference between that and an empty load
06:33 PM XXCoder: congats it arent shinyback anymore lol (if it eever was)
06:33 PM roycroft: with my toyota, a half yard would really slow it down, and the pickup would look like a big dog scooting across the floor to clean it's butt
06:33 PM roycroft: it's a 2001
06:33 PM roycroft: i bought it well broken in
06:34 PM roycroft: but i lined the bed with a tarp, because it's easier to get all the rock out if it's on a tarp
06:34 PM roycroft: so it would not have sratched it up even if it were new
06:35 PM roycroft: i need to go get a yard of planting soil now, so i can finish tidying up the herb beds in my front yard
06:35 PM Tom_L: i put rhino liner in the boy's trucks
06:35 PM Tom_L: seems pretty tough stuff
06:35 PM roycroft: my pickup had a fifth wheel hitch originally, so there's a hole in the middle of the bed
06:35 PM roycroft: i just put a heavy-duty bed liner on it
06:36 PM roycroft: i may do the spray on liner thing at some point
06:36 PM Tom_L: i had a thick rubber mat in my old S10
06:36 PM roycroft: but i'd have to weld up the hole, and fix a few other things firsst
06:36 PM roycroft: yeah, that's what i got
06:36 PM roycroft: i misspoke
06:36 PM roycroft: it's a thick rubber mat
06:36 PM Tom_L: i liked the mat
06:36 PM roycroft: and it's fine for now, and perhaps indefinitely - it covers up the hole
06:37 PM roycroft: when i'm hauling rocks/dirt/wood chips/whatever i'll line the bed with a tarp
06:37 PM roycroft: when i'm hauling sheet goods i'll toss a couple 2x4s in first for them to sit on
06:38 PM roycroft: and when i'm hauling dimensional lumber i'll just load it on the mat
06:38 PM roycroft: oh, that reminds me
06:38 PM roycroft: a few weeks ago i needed some 16' 2x4s
06:38 PM roycroft: i was able to fit them in the truck by opening the back window
06:39 PM roycroft: they went all the way up to the windshield, but they fit inside the bed, so i did not have to attach flags or anything to them
06:39 PM roycroft: that was nice
06:39 PM XXCoder: it have full bed right?
06:39 PM roycroft: i've had full size pickups before, but never with a crew cab
06:39 PM roycroft: yes
06:39 PM XXCoder: one that can fit 4x8'
06:39 PM XXCoder: cool
06:39 PM roycroft: the bed is 5'x8'
06:40 PM roycroft: it's a fleetside, so the wheel wells are inside the bed, but there's still 4-1/2' between them
06:40 PM Tom_L: fun to park
06:40 PM roycroft: i get my exercise
06:40 PM XXCoder: my bro had one, its so long
06:40 PM XXCoder: he has minitruck now
06:40 PM roycroft: it won't fit in a single parking space in most parking lots
06:40 PM roycroft: and i hate it when people take up multiple spaces
06:41 PM Tom_L: most of those guys around here park further out
06:41 PM roycroft: so in order not to have to hate myself, i park way out at the end of the lot most of the time, and get to walk a long way to get to the store
06:41 PM roycroft: they don't here
06:41 PM Tom_L: well, there's always one...
06:41 PM roycroft: all the dodge rams park as close as they can, and make sure they take up at least 4 parking spaces
06:42 PM Tom_L: one cool think on their trucks is the rear backup camera
06:42 PM roycroft: but parking is not the concern
06:42 PM Tom_L: you can switch modes so it can 'see thru' a trailer
06:42 PM roycroft: it's the wheelbase, and how impossible it is to make a tight turn
06:42 PM roycroft: i want a backup camera for my pickup
06:43 PM Tom_L: and focus on the hitch so you can back right under the tongue
06:43 PM roycroft: it would really be helpful
06:43 PM XXCoder: i remember that red green show, one with car with adjustable car base lol
06:43 PM roycroft: it's on my list to get for it
06:43 PM roycroft: i have a couple things to fix, and then i'm going to go for some performance enhancements
06:43 PM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7LuHW4BIlU
06:43 PM Tom_L: i haven't had a chance to figure all the features out yet..
06:43 PM roycroft: new air filter, new exahust, and a new computer
06:44 PM roycroft: i'm getting a bit over 12mpg right now, and want to increase that to 18-20mpg
06:44 PM roycroft: which, from what i've read, is doable for about $1k
06:44 PM XXCoder: i still remember my mecury sable. confortable ride! but turns around like a truck
06:45 PM Tom_L: i think these have variable firing depending on the load etc
06:45 PM Tom_L: not sure how well that works
06:46 PM roycroft: at today's prices it would take me about 9000 miles to break even on the upgrades
06:46 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/temp/trucks/Trucks_2.jpg
06:46 PM roycroft: and i'd get more horsepower as well
06:47 PM roycroft: nice
06:47 PM Tom_L: they traded 2020 honda civics and basically drove them free for 3 years
06:48 PM Tom_L: added the step to the grey one not shown there
06:49 PM roycroft: https://roycroft.us/New_Pickup.jpeg
06:49 PM roycroft: that's what i'm driving now
06:49 PM Tom_L: and that's a full size bed?
06:49 PM roycroft: yes
06:49 PM Tom_L: nice
06:49 PM roycroft: it's a full crew cab
06:49 PM roycroft: makes the bed look short
06:49 PM Tom_L: these are full but with a short bed
06:49 PM roycroft: but yeah, that truck is 20'+ long
06:49 PM roycroft: it has the turning radius of a bus
06:50 PM XXCoder: yup
06:50 PM roycroft: i got rid of those big fat tires right away
06:50 PM roycroft: and put some good mud tires on it
06:50 PM roycroft: it has a much tighter turning radius now
06:50 PM roycroft: to turn around on a residential street i now only have to do a 3 point turn, not a 5 point turn
06:52 PM roycroft: i need to put some marker lights on the roof, and get some proper side mirrors for it
06:53 PM roycroft: i was going to install a front hitch so i could mount my winch on the front or the back, but i'm thinking now of just getting a proper winch mount for the front and installing a permanent winch on the front
06:53 PM roycroft: warn make a winch mount that tucks behind the front bumper, which is nice
06:55 PM XXCoder: LOL https://youtu.be/GhUfIXRkUF8
06:55 PM XXCoder: it finally happened. years after red green
06:55 PM XXCoder: sure its showcase rather than actual product but yeah
06:55 PM roycroft: i would have to cut out part of the bumper for the fairlead, but otherwise it should fit pretty tight
06:56 PM roycroft: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000CQDQ12
06:56 PM roycroft: that would be so much better than having a hitch in the front and the winch sticking out the end of the hitch
06:57 PM XXCoder: yep
06:59 PM roycroft: well, it's time to go get the planting soil before lane forest products close for the day
06:59 PM roycroft: i need to plant my basil starts by tomorrow
08:37 PM * roycroft has the basil section of the herb bed dug up, and ready for some planting soil, so all will be good for planting tomorrow
