05:33 AM Centurion_Dan1 is now known as Centurion_Dan
05:47 AM JT-Cave: rooster just crowed
08:03 AM JT-Cave: hmm I "think" I have MesaCT II update ini working as intended...
09:40 AM Tom_L: tag office is gonna love me today

10:03 AM roguish[m]: good morning...............
10:03 AM JT-Shop: yo
10:09 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
10:49 AM JT-Shop: lunch
11:11 AM JT-Cave: hi ho hi ho it's off to do as little work as I can
11:30 AM roycroft: i have a lot of work to do, sadly
11:31 AM roycroft: i haven't been able to get the color coat to flow well on my laser enclosure, so i'm back to the old method - brushing, sanding, and clear coating
11:39 AM roguish[m]: roycroft: it's just a simple cover...... don't fret it.
11:58 AM roycroft: i test new techniques and the like on shop projects
12:00 PM roycroft: i should have just used an industrial epoxy paint in the first place - that stuff is expensive, but i don't need as much as when using latex enamel, and i have a lot of experience spraying it
12:00 PM roycroft: i was hoping to save time by not having to clear coat
12:01 PM roycroft: not to mention not having to deal with sealing the edges, as mdf edges make the industrial epoxy disappear
12:15 PM * Tom_L feels a bit lighter after that venture
12:56 PM skunkworks[m]: you mean high?
01:19 PM JT-Shop: skunkworks[m], you're getting some chickens?
01:31 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
01:31 PM Unterhausen: There's nothing like making fences when you want to be doing anything else
01:32 PM Unterhausen: one of the dogs was walking around in the only raised gardens with plants in it
01:33 PM skunkworks[m]: JT-Shop: thinking about it. Kids would love it.
01:34 PM Unterhausen: get the ones that lay green eggs. Then you need some green pigs
01:35 PM JT-Shop: green eggs and ham
01:36 PM JT-Shop: skunkworks[m], let me know if you need to know anything about chickens
01:36 PM skunkworks[m]: all my childhood... lol.. And every once in a while now 🙂
01:37 PM roycroft: and sometimes, very very ironically, during a filibuster in the senate
01:49 PM skunkworks[m]: JT-Shop: thanks!
02:54 PM roycroft: i wonder if i'm in a time warp or something
02:54 PM roycroft: election day was tueseday, and i just got a bunch of campaign brocures in the mail today
02:54 PM roycroft: as well, festool are doing their annual road trip
02:55 PM roycroft: they just sent me an email today inviting me to visit their portland show on may 9th
03:26 PM XXCoder: longer groundhog day lol. groundhog month
03:29 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Future to the Back!
03:42 PM XXCoder: oh yea roycroft is your laser machine easy set laser head height? ie it comes with block you put laser head on and lock in place
03:46 PM roycroft: it has a lever that swings down to set the height and then swings back up
03:46 PM roycroft: it takes about 5 seconds to set it
03:46 PM XXCoder: cool does it have thing to set to exact height above mineral?
03:46 PM roycroft: yes, that's what the lever does
03:46 PM XXCoder: oh I understand now. thanks
03:46 PM roycroft: and the new laser head i'm getting has a micro adjust for cutting thing stuff
03:47 PM roycroft: you set the height to the top of the part, run a pass, then you can microadjust it down a couple mm for the next pass
03:48 PM roycroft: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37p3QjhErBA
03:48 PM roycroft: i have a 20w laser head that will arrive today
03:51 PM XXCoder: https://youtu.be/e8pvjEHAt6U interesting chair
04:14 PM JT-Shop: roguish[m], a bit of toe in made a huge difference on the e-bike
04:16 PM XXCoder: toe-in on what?
04:23 PM JT-Shop: brake pads
04:26 PM XXCoder: ahh ok
04:27 PM XXCoder: yeah since it flex a little so toe-in would be nicely parallel to surface when pressed in
04:27 PM XXCoder: if I recall anyway. been long time since i last fixed bicycle
04:30 PM JT-Shop: I think it has more to do with the gradual application of the stopping power
04:34 PM XXCoder: hmm interesting, though probably would evenually wear if that is usual rubber type
04:41 PM CaptHindsight[m]: roycroft: "20w laser head that will arrive today" do yah know its wavelength?
04:43 PM JT-Shop: XXCoder, if you watch the park tools video on setting the brake pads you will see it's the standard way to set them for cantilever brakes
04:50 PM XXCoder: yea I guess I remembered toe-in right, though not the reason behind it
04:51 PM roycroft: does anyone have an air blow gun that they relly like?
04:52 PM roycroft: i used to use the harbor freight ones, when they had brass nozzles, but now the just have a rubber nozzle that doesn't fit well and blows off all the time
04:52 PM roycroft: and, of course, when it blows off i usually lose it and have to get another air blow gun
04:52 PM roycroft: i'd rather spend more money on something that i won't have to replace every couple weeks
04:53 PM roycroft: an i don't want the pressure-limiting safety tips
04:54 PM roycroft: i guess i could turn my own brass tips for the ones i have, but right now i have more money than time for this
04:55 PM JT[m]: 4' of tires
04:55 PM * JT[m] uploaded an image: (264KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/QuIiPRouJJBYnyizqROrqnIn/20230518_165359.jpg >

04:57 PM Tom_L: same
04:57 PM JT-Shop: must be something wrong with element
04:57 PM Tom_L: i can't get on element on the phone now
04:58 PM * JT-Shop goes to check the deer feeder
05:16 PM * JT-Shop has a bunch of things he wants to get done but fails to get motivated...
05:18 PM roycroft: it can be hard sometimes to get motivated
05:18 PM CaptHindsight[m]: pics look fine here
05:18 PM roycroft: i picked up my eyeglasses today - the ones i use for computer work
05:18 PM roycroft: it was the fourth set of lenses they made for them
05:18 PM roycroft: and they are still wrong
05:18 PM roycroft: i do not know how they can possibly continue to screw things up this badly
05:19 PM JT-Shop: CaptHindsight[m], I still get 502 on the photos with a browser
05:19 PM roguish[m]: JT-Shop: well, well, you're finally retired.....
05:19 PM roycroft: i still get 502 on both of them
05:19 PM JT-Shop: me too
05:20 PM JT-Shop: roguish[m], well not quite... working on the double chucker and next up is a cool handle machine
05:20 PM * CaptHindsight[m] uploaded an image: (37KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/mBtsXYHKBmUhkaAfmKVBFboB/jts-tires.jpeg >
05:20 PM * roycroft is waiting for his eye doctor to call, as he is disgusted with the lab
05:20 PM JT-Shop: 502 Bad Gateway
05:21 PM JT-Shop: ^ CaptHindsight[m]
05:21 PM roycroft: is libera.ems.host hosted with a service like cloudfare?
05:21 PM roycroft: hmm
05:21 PM CaptHindsight[m]: loads fine here :)
05:22 PM roycroft: well, i just connected to a vpn in belgium and still get 502
05:22 PM roycroft: i'll let jt get that sorted, if he's interested
05:22 PM roycroft: myself, i'm going to run some errands and get back to sanding and painting my laser enclosure
05:23 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://i.imgur.com/mY5CJiy.jpg
05:23 PM roycroft: which i hope gets finished some time this year :)
05:23 PM roguish[m]: i'm in element with the windows desktop program.....no problems...
05:24 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I'm using the Riot site in FF on Linux
05:24 PM CaptHindsight[m]: no problems
05:25 PM CaptHindsight[m]: https://riot.im/app/#/room/#LCNC:matrix.org
05:25 PM Tom_L: 502 here still as well
05:26 PM CaptHindsight[m]: does my imgur link work?
05:26 PM TurBoss: yup
05:26 PM Tom_L: yeah
05:26 PM CaptHindsight[m]: problem solved, next issue please :)
05:27 PM JT-Shop: https://pasteboard.co/N0UE5I5okqgC.jpg
05:27 PM Tom_L: wonder what the staggered groves are in the tire pattern
05:27 PM JT-Shop: not sure
05:27 PM Tom_L: we used to cut our own grooves in late model
05:28 PM roguish[m]: noise
05:28 PM Tom_L: make sure they get mounted right if they're staggered like that
05:28 PM roguish[m]: noise reductioj
05:28 PM JT-Shop: the wide groove goes on the inside
05:28 PM Tom_L: the grooves around the perimeter, not cross
05:29 PM JT-Shop: right
05:29 PM Tom_L: we did it to reduce heat
05:30 PM JT-Shop: the C5 has 8" front and 9" rear tires
05:31 PM Tom_L: i saw they were different
05:31 PM JT-Shop: these are 11" front and 13" rear
05:31 PM roguish[m]: oh boy, 4 unique tires.....
05:31 PM JT-Shop: the Hankook on the C5 are good for a long time...
05:33 PM roguish[m]: especially if you're a Sunday Vette driver.....
05:33 PM XXCoder: ugh
05:33 PM XXCoder: lack of exercise by illness is biting my back
05:34 PM XXCoder: just walked 2 blocks to postal office and I feel overexercised
05:34 PM XXCoder: then return trip was worse
05:34 PM JT-Shop: you need to work up to it in steps
05:35 PM XXCoder: yeah. walked longer in stores but it was inside and cool
05:35 PM * JT-Shop wonders what a "Sunday Vette driver....." is?
05:35 PM XXCoder: not that hot here at 75f but then theres other factors like sidewalk not smooth etc
05:35 PM XXCoder: harder to walk
05:36 PM roguish[m]: the guy who only drives his Vette on Sundays and holidaze
05:38 PM JT-Woodshop: well that ain't me for sure
05:38 PM roguish[m]: good to hear
05:38 PM XXCoder: im monthly driver lol
05:39 PM XXCoder: I rarely drive car
05:39 PM XXCoder: today was one of those rare days
05:43 PM JT-Woodshop: we went to Echo Bluff State Park yesterday in the C5 and going to my dr appt in Cape tomorrow in the C5 and went to the store today too
05:48 PM Tom_L: you're starting to sound retired
05:48 PM JT-Woodshop: lol
05:49 PM JT-Woodshop: cracks me up you stack crap in a corner and when you need that corner for more important crap you have to find a new spot for lesser crap
05:50 PM Tom_L: better build an overhead tire rack
05:54 PM JT-Shop: I could order a roof rack...
05:55 PM Tom_L: i've been several places that have a lift in the garage for a 2nd vehicle
05:56 PM JT-Woodshop: I have overhead storage for light items over each garage door
05:58 PM Tom_L: reading that you should store them in trash bags with the air removed to prevent the oils from seeping from the rubber to prolong tire life
05:58 PM Tom_L: air removed from the bag
06:00 PM roguish[m]: Nitrogen in the bag............or Argon.....
06:01 PM JT-Shop: here we go with nitrogen again...
06:01 PM Tom_L: haha
06:01 PM JT-Shop: how many decades can you store them in garbage bags?
06:01 PM Tom_L: 10 yrs
06:02 PM Tom_L: before they start to deteriorate
06:02 PM JT-Shop: hopefully I track the treads off and toss them before then
06:02 PM Tom_L: i hope so too... you wouldn't be doing the vehicle justice if you didn't
06:03 PM JT-Shop: I'm sure in 10 years playing on the track will be out of my blood
06:03 PM * JT-Shop goes to lock up the other shop and say goodnight to my bunnies
06:03 PM Tom_L: you never know.. Steve is 79 and still goes to the track
06:04 PM Tom_L: last time i was out there he'd just put a new fuel injection system on the car
06:07 PM JT-Shop: maybe there's hope to track till I'm 85
06:07 PM JT-Shop: say goodnight Gracie
06:07 PM Tom_L: granted he's gone to a slower class
06:08 PM Tom_L: i think he just likes tinkering on them
06:08 PM JT-Shop: I recon that's a good idea
06:08 PM roguish[m]: drive out here to Lagoon Seca. take a Bonderaunt cource
06:08 PM JT-Shop: maybe I should keep the C5 just to fiddle with on the track
06:08 PM JT-Shop: much too far for me
06:09 PM Tom_L: roguish[m], he drives mostly in a straight line.. or at least that's the intent
06:09 PM JT-Shop: Steve?
06:09 PM Tom_L: yeah
06:09 PM JT-Shop: they have a drag strip in Sikeston about 60 miles to the east
06:10 PM Tom_L: i introduced him to Stan who used to drive an alcohol funnycar with a 560 keith black engine
06:10 PM Tom_L: blown
06:10 PM JT-Shop: cool
06:10 PM JT-Shop: see you in the am
06:10 PM Tom_L: i've helped him on that a bit in the past too
06:10 PM Tom_L: later
06:10 PM JT-Shop: btw did you see I made some progress with mesact2
06:10 PM roguish[m]: drag strips and roundy-rounds are boring
06:10 PM Tom_L: yeah, i need to get back on track with testing that
06:10 PM JT-Shop: St. Louis has a road track
06:11 PM Tom_L: granted drag strips are...
06:11 PM roguish[m]: there ya go
06:11 PM JT-Shop: working on updateini and I "think" I have sorted out
06:11 PM Tom_L: frank had a late model i helped him on and i enjoyed that more
06:12 PM JT-Shop: at the car show a couple of kids had miniature rails with a single cylinder engine
06:12 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, saw that earlier
06:13 PM JT-Shop: both run them at Sikeston
06:13 PM JT-Shop: ok see you in the am
06:13 PM Tom_L: bye

10:18 PM ithe2guu[m]: s/a/an/, s/n//
10:19 PM ithe2guu[m]: i am not doing anything with the encoder yet
