12:05 AM * ithe2guu[m] uploaded an image: (292KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/qNvBoxwkGVTQUjnGpAnGdgrQ/image.png >
01:09 AM jpa-: ithe2guu[m]: read the "Operation - Isolated I/O" chapter in 7i96 manual - yeah, they are supposed to share a pin, but which way exactly to connect them depends on if you have simple switches, NPN/PNP sensors or a source that supplies its own power
01:11 AM jpa-: (you do need *some* source of power on the isolated side, because they are opto-isolator inputs; just connecting a switch between IN COMMON and IN0 will do nothing)
01:36 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
02:43 AM Deejay: moin
04:26 AM Tom_L: morning
04:54 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:49 AM JT-Cave: rooster just crowed
06:12 AM Jym: Morning
07:28 AM * JT-Cave starts his chicken day
09:10 AM * JT-Shop found a gallon of Mach 7 15% nitro model airplane fuel... what do do with it?
09:57 AM CloudEvil: Build a tiny engine?
10:42 AM roycroft: blah
10:42 AM roycroft: vacation is over, and i have meetings every night this week except tomorrow night
11:09 AM Unterhaus_: I think the ironman company just relies on auto-responders. Forget it, I don't need to give free labor to a billion dollar company
11:15 AM roycroft: of course you don't
11:15 AM roycroft: you're supposed to pay them for the privilege of providing them free labor
11:16 AM roycroft: just providing the labor is not enough
11:20 AM Loetmichel: JT-Shop: synth oil or castor oil? if the latter: dispose of it, thats probably varnish by now.
11:21 AM Loetmichel: not to mention that the nitro decomposes rather quickly
11:30 AM Unterhaus_: I don't have to pay to provide free labor, except they want to do multiple consumer credit checks on me
11:55 AM roycroft: so while i was on my vacation my boss opened a ticket for me with a dozen completely unrelated requests in it
11:55 AM roycroft: i'm back, and working on list, but he just emailed me and told me he needs a status report on each item
11:56 AM roycroft: i told him i'm updating the ticket as i work through items, but he says that's too confusing and needs a separate report for each item
11:56 AM roycroft: i've been telling him for decades that it works best if there is one item/project per ticket, and one request per email if he's going to use email
11:56 AM roycroft: but i keep getting all this combined crap
11:56 AM * roycroft is ready for another vacation week :)
11:57 AM Tom_L: so return it that way and just say .... ooops
11:57 AM roycroft: i'm just so happy my brain does not function like his does
11:58 AM roycroft: it would drive me crazy
11:58 AM Tom_L: no, it would make perfect sense to you
11:58 AM Tom_L: and only you :)
11:59 AM roycroft: possibly
12:00 PM roycroft: but i would still be crazy
12:00 PM roycroft: i would just not be aware of that
12:01 PM * Tom_L goes for an after lunch nap
01:27 PM JT-Shop: Loetmichel, synthetic oil and it seems good
01:27 PM * JT-Shop thinks a nap is in order
01:37 PM roycroft: it's time to paint for me
01:37 PM roycroft: otherwise known as my lunch break
01:58 PM CaptHindsight[m]: FinboySlick: looks like more Space Jesus tech that they used long ago
02:02 PM roycroft: i hope the floetrol helps things quite a bit - i'm not impressed with how the latex enamel sprayed so far
02:03 PM roycroft: but i'll know better in a couple hours
02:04 PM roycroft: i'm hoping i don't have to sand it smooth and clear coat it later - that negates the whole point of using a high gloss enamel in the first place
02:31 PM FinboySlick: CaptHindsight[m]: Yeah. Still fascinating though, at least assuming they're not lying on the methodology.
02:33 PM CaptHindsight[m]: FinboySlick: i think we underestimate old crafts-persons abilities
02:33 PM CaptHindsight[m]: thanks for the link
02:36 PM CaptHindsight[m]: was probably sculpted by a woman as well
02:36 PM FinboySlick: CaptHindsight[m]: Well, if it's a real object and they aren't fudging their numbers, I think it would be more likely to be a hoax than an 'old craftsment' thing.
02:37 PM FinboySlick: They're keeping not only measurements but relational proportions within 75 microns.
03:21 PM JT-Shop: wow the 20 ton H frame press has 8 people wanting it and 650 clicks on the listing
03:21 PM JT-Shop: price is firm lol
03:24 PM roycroft: the price becomes firm when the second person expresses an interest, at the latest
03:41 PM JT-Shop: I have 8 that want it now!
03:42 PM FinboySlick: "Price is going up 10 % every hour I don't get an offer."
03:42 PM roycroft: time to take bids
03:42 PM XXCoder: price * number of people interested
03:43 PM roycroft: i'm actually really good about selling stuff like that
03:43 PM JT-Shop: I'm not like that
03:43 PM roycroft: the first person who offers my asking price has the first opportunity to buy
03:43 PM JT-Shop: yup
03:43 PM roycroft: i'll hold it for that person for a short time
03:43 PM roycroft: if they ask for too much time, or they don't show up for the appointment, the second person gets a go
03:44 PM roycroft: and "too much time" depends on circumstances
03:44 PM XXCoder: yeah same for me.
03:44 PM roycroft: when i sold my old jointer the buyer had to come down from portland, and i held it until the weekend, but told him he had to show up by 1pm saturday
03:44 PM roycroft: which he did
03:45 PM roycroft: it it's someone local i'll usualy only hold something for a day
03:45 PM FinboySlick: JT-Shop: Use Canadian government strategy. Don't be like that, but hire us as a consulting firm who is like that and then blame all the crooked decisions on us.
03:46 PM roycroft: blame canada! blame canada! with their beady little eyes and flapping heads so full of lies!
03:47 PM FinboySlick: I'm not your buddy, guy.
03:49 PM * JT-Shop takes five with Dave and some German sweet baloney
03:50 PM roycroft: but you're sorry anyway
03:51 PM FinboySlick: Well... I'm the rotten, french kind of Canadian. We have a radically different accent.
03:52 PM FinboySlick: If you've ever heard Georges St-Pierre (UFC fighter) speak, he's a pretty spot-on carricature of it.
03:55 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I had some tool reseller show up with cash to get the last of my old shop stuff. My prices were either $250 or $100ea
03:56 PM CaptHindsight[m]: old 4ft fan $100, 20 ton press $250, etc etc
03:57 PM CaptHindsight[m]: she actually loaded a 800 lb compressor and tank into the back of a minivan
03:58 PM CaptHindsight[m]: CL is a pain in the buttocks
03:59 PM roycroft: yeah, but cl buyers don't 1099 you after $600 in aggregate sales in a year
03:59 PM roycroft: i'm still not sure how i'm going to deal with that regarding ebay
04:00 PM roycroft: i mean, i earn money, and pay income tax
04:00 PM roycroft: then i buy stuff
04:00 PM CaptHindsight[m]: FinboySlick: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwPFETtIWPg&t=6s
04:00 PM roycroft: when i go to sell the stuff years later, at a significant loss, i get a 1099 and i have to go find my original receipt (usually long gone) to prove that i sold at a loss
04:01 PM CaptHindsight[m]: FinboySlick: huh I always assumed that you sounded more like Celine Dion
04:01 PM roycroft: and since i do this with personal, not business assets, i haven't taken depreciation on the stuff over the years
04:01 PM roycroft: i've never heard of that ufs or whatever person
04:01 PM roycroft: but i imagine him souding like rene levesque
04:02 PM FinboySlick: CaptHindsight[m]: My french accent is much much less pronounced than his. But his is very stereotypical of french canadians.
04:02 PM XXCoder: meh everyone sounds same to me
04:03 PM FinboySlick: One of the issues for a native french speaker is that, since English is basically half normand/saxon, you use many of the same words but with empahsis on different syllables.
04:03 PM CaptHindsight[m]: XXCoder: evenz mine German accent?
04:03 PM roycroft: who was the quintessential quebcois
04:04 PM XXCoder: CaptHindsight[m]: yep.
04:04 PM roycroft: yes, we are a germanic language with a romance vocabulary
04:04 PM FinboySlick: I've had a conversation with René Leversque as a kid roycroft. He was quite nice.
04:04 PM roycroft: i'd like to have met him
04:05 PM FinboySlick: He's from around here.
04:05 PM roycroft: he was vary passionate about separatism, that's for sure
04:05 PM FinboySlick: Yeah, but not the same kind of separatism we have today.
04:05 PM FinboySlick: Well, whatever is left of it.
04:05 PM roycroft: times were different
04:06 PM FinboySlick: He was going for a full-on republic with a fairly similar model as the US.
04:06 PM roycroft: yes
04:06 PM XXCoder: capt I am deaf, so of course everyone speaking sounds same to me ;)
04:06 PM FinboySlick: Now they just want a Canada that speaks french.
04:06 PM roycroft: well
04:06 PM roycroft: canadian french
04:06 PM roycroft: which is more like 17th century french french, with a more modern vocabulary
04:06 PM CaptHindsight[m]: the kind of French that the French make fun of
04:07 PM FinboySlick: Well, to be more specific, *parisian* people make fun of Canadian french. Anywhere outside of Paris has even more of an accent than we do.
04:07 PM roycroft: but the point is, when i think of french canada, i think of rene levesque
04:08 PM roycroft: not brian mulroney
04:08 PM FinboySlick: Hahaha, Mulroney :) Now that was a character.
04:11 PM FinboySlick: When I hear some american friends complain about Trump, I often say: "Yeah, but did his body guards have to save a protestor from getting strangled by him?" I remember seeing Mulroney attack someoneone on live TV and his body guards struggling to save the poor idiot.
04:11 PM FinboySlick: No wait!
04:11 PM FinboySlick: That was Chrétien.
04:11 PM FinboySlick: Brain-fart.
04:11 PM FinboySlick: Anyway.
04:12 PM FinboySlick: Fond memories of Chrétien. Excellent reminder that we seem to get buy no matter what clown they put in.
04:21 PM roycroft: i think joe clark is a better example of that :)
04:23 PM FinboySlick: Too young to remember him.
04:24 PM roycroft: he did not last very long anyway
04:24 PM roycroft: and he was actually mostly benign
04:25 PM roycroft: more of a bumbling fool than anything
04:25 PM roycroft: he lasted only a few months - he lost a confidence vote on his first budget, and that was it
04:26 PM roycroft: he was preceded by pierre, and succeeded by pierre
04:55 PM JT-Shop: Tom_L, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKg_LolRP20
05:08 PM * JT[m] uploaded an image: (221KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/vSqIwPfQERynatYKjriLKCtE/20230515_170808.jpg >
05:09 PM JT[m]: Front all season tires are here
05:19 PM Tom_L: dealer gonna mount em for ya?
05:25 PM JT-Woodshop: yup
05:30 PM Tom_L: make sure they nitrogen fill them
05:30 PM Tom_L: i'm sure they will anyway..
05:32 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
05:36 PM JT-Shop: looks like a storm here
05:36 PM JT-Shop: hmm north of us
05:36 PM Tom_L: been cloudy all day off and on
05:36 PM JT-Shop: just got dark here
05:37 PM skunkworks[m]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUKYsGbmrJo&t=2907s
05:38 PM * JT-Shop doesn't believe all the hype about nitrogen filled tires for daily drivers
05:38 PM Tom_L: no but it helps with lo profile tires since the volume is low
05:38 PM XXCoder: there is benefits but is it amazing benefits? not really
05:39 PM Tom_L: probably near half the volume of a regular tire
05:39 PM JT-Woodshop: 1/4
05:41 PM skunkworks[m]: unless there is a chance that you are pushing the tires hard enough that the moisture in the air that you put in your tires turn to steam - you are probably fine
05:42 PM XXCoder: I would only get it for regular tires if I plan to drive for very long distance
05:42 PM XXCoder: otherwise not really worth it
05:42 PM * Tom_L looks over at JT-Woodshop after skunkworks' comment and smiles
05:44 PM JT-Woodshop: I'll put nitrogen in my track tires just for the benefit of more stable pressures as temperature changes
05:45 PM JT-Woodshop: and they start 5 psig lower than street tires due to the heat
05:45 PM Tom_L: do those have the sensors in the stem?
05:46 PM JT-Woodshop: pressure and temperature sensors
05:48 PM JT-Woodshop: if you over heat the tires your speed is limited to 140 MPH
05:49 PM Tom_L: limits the fun on track day
05:50 PM * JT-Woodshop sticks his head outside to see if it's time to run for cover or not
05:50 PM JT-Woodshop: yup
05:50 PM XXCoder: if you see water line at window, dont open any window or door
05:58 PM JT-Woodshop: lol
05:59 PM Tom_L: more likely to happen in Galveston etc
05:59 PM Tom_L: i've seen the waterline there
06:01 PM JT-Shop: I'm above the high water mark so no worries there
06:01 PM * JT-Shop calls it a day
06:02 PM Tom_L: did you watch that yt clear thru?
06:02 PM XXCoder: here, if water reaches here, we are really screwed
06:02 PM XXCoder: we may be fairly close to inlet sea, but over 500 feet high
06:02 PM JT-Shop: the corvette story yes
06:02 PM Tom_L: no, thompson
06:02 PM JT-Shop: not yet
06:02 PM JT-Shop: just started
06:03 PM JT-Shop: did you watch it?
06:03 PM Tom_L: i have it running with no sound but may watch it this evening
06:03 PM JT-Shop: gives me something to watch until Leo releases a video lol
06:05 PM Tom_L: leo hasn't finished the boat yet?
06:45 PM jdh: I'm about 19ft above sea level. But not much danger from just rain.
07:14 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
07:35 PM JT-Cave: Leo has a ways to go on the boat
07:37 PM Tom_L: watching the thomson yt
