02:47 PM Tom_L: yo
02:47 PM Tom_L: nap time
02:47 PM Tom_L: mowed, primed the pump, recovered some chair cushions, move some tables around... i earned it
02:52 PM Unterhaus__: I got up late, did nothing, now I might take a nap even though I don't deserve it
02:56 PM JT[m]: 12 West Fredericktown
03:18 PM * roycroft painted earlier, ran some errands, is about to paint again, and then it's string trimmer time for a while, followed (probably by tomorrow) by bramble cutting time
03:19 PM roycroft: it's a busy weekend, and a record-setting heat weekend
03:24 PM JT[m]: You need more practice, come to my house
03:39 PM roycroft: i've had plenty of practice, thanks
03:47 PM travis_farmer[m]: a doctor practices for years... just saying ;-)
03:51 PM Tom_L: do they ever get it right?
03:51 PM travis_farmer[m]: dunno, i hope so...
03:56 PM roycroft: painting is done until this evening
03:57 PM roycroft: now i have to force myself to go out in the heat and do some real work
03:57 PM Tom_L: how'd the HVLP work ?
03:58 PM roycroft: it was fine until this morning
03:58 PM roycroft: my compressor tripped its breaker - first time in about a year - and i did not notice right away
03:58 PM roycroft: so i got a lot of orange peel, but fortunately it was the primer
03:58 PM roycroft: the color is leveling out nicely
03:58 PM Tom_L: compressor still able to keep up?
03:58 PM roycroft: yes
03:58 PM roycroft: easily
03:59 PM Tom_L: good
03:59 PM roycroft: i wish i had a bigger shop, with a dedicated finish room where i have a lot more space than i do
04:00 PM roycroft: this is a small project, but i'm having to paint it in two batches, because i can't fit everything in the shop to do it all at once
04:00 PM roycroft: so it takes twice as long
04:01 PM roycroft: it's hard to make money in a shop when one spends half one's time playing tetris with the machines and fixtures
04:01 PM XXCoder: person who invents the "inside is bigger" thing or inverory like game would get so much money.
04:01 PM roycroft: anyway, i could easily procrastinate right now, but it's getting hotter by the minute, so i'm gonna go do the heat stuff
04:01 PM roycroft: hermione already did it
04:02 PM roycroft: i just need to enroll in hogwarts for a couple terms :)
04:02 PM XXCoder: :)
04:27 PM Tom_L: i'm pretty good at tetris in that regard
04:28 PM XXCoder: would be sad of row of equipment disappeared
04:39 PM CloudEvil: XXCoder: Almost literally robotic shelves can do that
04:39 PM CloudEvil: To a fair degree at least.
04:40 PM XXCoder: lol
04:40 PM CloudEvil: (for a decent inventory system anyway.
04:40 PM CloudEvil: Now I have to post the Klien vid.
04:41 PM CloudEvil: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-k3mVnRlQLU&t=223s
04:42 PM XXCoder: i remember those yeah
04:42 PM XXCoder: though by disappear I mean like game teris completed row lol
04:43 PM CloudEvil: https://www.kleinbottle.com/
04:43 PM XXCoder: I know :)
04:55 PM * JT-Shop is worn out and calls it a day an hour early
04:56 PM JT-Shop: Leo has a new video out but I'm too tired to watch it tonight
05:17 PM roycroft: it is time for a refreshing beverage
05:17 PM roycroft: well earned, if i do say so myself

06:38 PM Unterhaus__ is now known as Unterhausen
07:19 PM Unterhausen: I realized that my programming problems today were all due to unicode being set on. There should be a checkbox for old people to set that turns back the clock
07:20 PM Unterhausen: took me a lot longer than I would like to admit to figure that out
07:35 PM roycroft: i was going through my shorts today, and the only ones that still fit me are in really ratty condition, so i decided i should get some new ones
07:36 PM roycroft: but i found that in denim, a pair of shorts costs 2x as much as a pair of full-length jeans
07:36 PM roycroft: this was consistent from brand to brand
07:36 PM roycroft: but i know how to fix that
07:36 PM XXCoder: ez fix
07:36 PM roycroft: and i own some good scissors
07:37 PM roycroft: i'll not try to figure out pay more to get less
07:37 PM roycroft: my brain is already pretty fried from working in the heat today
07:37 PM XXCoder: summer is coming so price is high
07:37 PM roycroft: i don't need to further aggrevate it
07:38 PM roycroft: i have one more coat of paint to spray and then chores are done for the day
07:39 PM Unterhausen: buy shorts in the fall
07:39 PM XXCoder: me, pants in summer, shorts in winter
07:39 PM Unterhausen: although for stores, shorts season is almost over.
07:40 PM Unterhausen: they might put them on sale soon to make room for fall clothes
07:48 PM Tom_L: roycroft, the problem is what to do with the excess material
07:48 PM XXCoder: make demin pillows
07:49 PM Tom_L: similar issue with hotdogs/buns
07:49 PM Tom_L: never packaged the same
08:03 PM Unterhausen: my spouse somehow found both hot dogs and buns in qty 8. Probably paid extra
08:04 PM Tom_L: maybe they figure you'll burn a couple beyond recognition
08:12 PM roycroft: what's the deal with quinn flipping back and forth between the filing machine and the new steam engine?
08:12 PM roycroft: it seems she changes projects every week
08:12 PM roycroft: tom_l: i've been saving cutoff jeans material for years
08:13 PM roycroft: i have a big box of it now
08:13 PM roycroft: *something* will be done with it
08:15 PM XXCoder: dunno but I enjoy both so it doesnt matter to me
08:15 PM XXCoder: filing is almost done
08:16 PM XXCoder: though it may be the case that she will need it for steam engine so shes finishing it
08:23 PM roycroft: it's not bothersome, but it's curious
08:24 PM XXCoder: yeah. maybe those needed 2 weeks of work?
10:05 PM roycroft: i really should have sanded the primer after that compressor mishap this morning, but i can live with what i have
10:05 PM roycroft: since it's a shop fixture
10:06 PM roycroft: and the parts i sprayed today are all interior sides
10:06 PM roycroft: tomorrow i start on the outside, so it has to go perfectly
10:07 PM roycroft: i probably need to think it more than before due to the excessive heat
10:08 PM roycroft: thin, not think
10:08 PM * roycroft probably needs to think less
10:08 PM XXCoder: it looks it will be 80s f all week. ugh
10:09 PM XXCoder: well except for tomorrow
10:09 PM XXCoder: 90f
10:10 PM Tom_L: cooling off a bit here mid 60's to 70's
10:11 PM Tom_L: maybe a bit of rain overnite
10:12 PM XXCoder: it barely rained here at all so far
10:12 PM Tom_L: we haven't had much either
10:12 PM XXCoder: one of worse springs here :(
10:12 PM XXCoder: summer is going to be bad, and smokey hellscope season very bad.
10:19 PM roycroft: we don't have rain in the forecast for the next two weeks
10:20 PM roycroft: smoke from those fires in alberta and bc are already blowing down into washington, xxcoder
10:20 PM XXCoder: ugh
10:20 PM XXCoder: smoke is so bad for me with my damaged lungs.
10:20 PM roycroft: i don't think noreasters from up there get as far south as tacoma, usually
10:21 PM roycroft: but i'm sure bellingham is getting some smoke
10:26 PM roycroft: *chuckle*
10:26 PM roycroft: i'm watching dave stanton live, and he's been building a window
10:26 PM roycroft: he's starting to install the hardware now, and he started installing a brass screw without a pilot hole or anything
10:27 PM XXCoder: cracked?
10:27 PM roycroft: i was sitting here saying to myself "he's gonna shear that screw off"
10:27 PM roycroft: and then he eid
10:27 PM roycroft: did
10:27 PM roycroft: in hardwoods, i will always drill a pilot hole first
10:28 PM XXCoder: I was thinking that it would split
10:28 PM roycroft: and in both hardwoods and softwoods, i always install a steel screw the same size as the brass screw first, to cut the threads
10:28 PM XXCoder: but yeah screw would get very hot and stressed working that hard
10:29 PM roycroft: brass is the same color as butter because it has the same strength as butter :)
10:29 PM XXCoder: lol
10:30 PM XXCoder: thought you meant brass colored but literal brass. looks good but then coated would look same but lot stronger
10:30 PM roycroft: dave also just said he's going to have to go buy a brass screw to replace the one he sheared off
10:30 PM roycroft: i guess he doesn't stock much hardwae
10:30 PM roycroft: or maybe i stock too much
10:31 PM roycroft: i don't like going to the store every time i need a fastener
10:33 PM XXCoder: you do have good storage system for em
10:34 PM roycroft: yeah, it's space efficient, and i can store a buttload of fasteners
10:34 PM XXCoder: one would have to have quite large butt to match amount of storage
10:41 PM roycroft: like bertha butt size
10:43 PM roycroft: i'd really like a die filer like the one quinn is making
10:43 PM XXCoder: it does look cool
10:43 PM XXCoder: not what I need at all but yeah lol
10:44 PM roycroft: i would use it constantly
10:53 PM XXCoder: mking it seem to be a lot of work
