12:30 AM BryanHoward4450[: How do I do a G0 rapid move with an arc? My arc looks like this:
12:40 AM BryanHoward4450[: G18 G3 X0 Z20 I0 K10
01:03 AM Deejay: moin
03:42 AM jpa-: BryanHoward4450[: arcs are only for feed moves, in rapids the path is not supposed to matter that much
03:42 AM jpa-: you can set high feedrate for the move if you want
03:43 AM XXCoder: or move to safe spot then rapid g0 over
04:49 AM TomLight[m]: Morning
04:53 AM JT-Cave: morning
04:55 AM TomLight[m]: JT-Shop: 3300!!!
04:55 AM TomLight[m]: :)
04:57 AM TomLight[m]: irc client won't connect now so I had to figure out my element login and I'm not sure I got the right one
04:58 AM JT-Cave: looks like your on
04:58 AM JT-Cave: 3100 yesterday morning and 3300 yesterday afternoon
04:58 AM TomLight[m]: Took all evening to figure it out
04:58 AM JT-Cave: TPW 5/22 so it will get built this month for sure
04:59 AM TomLight[m]: Cool
04:59 AM JT-Cave: dealer said I should have it by the first week in June

05:00 AM JT-Cave: middle of no where :)
05:00 AM XXCoder: thats a lot of water
05:01 AM JT-Cave: looks like my view working offshore
05:01 AM TomLight[m]: A lot the same I'm sure
05:02 AM TomLight[m]: Not much traffic
05:03 AM travis_farmer[m]: Morning ☕️
05:03 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:04 AM JT-Cave: what time do you dock?
05:05 AM TomLight[m]: Tomorrow am
05:06 AM TomLight[m]: He's taking the long way home around the islanda
05:07 AM TomLight[m]: Islands
05:07 AM TomLight[m]: Time to round up some grub
05:09 AM JT-Cave: k
05:09 AM TomLight[m]: Flight from Miami is later so we're taking a tour to kill some time before we leave
05:11 AM JT-Cave: cool
05:12 AM JT-Cave: we stayed in a fancy hotel in Miami when we rode the Bluewing to the keys
05:13 AM TomLight[m]: Ship tour today around 9
05:13 AM JT-Cave: cool, get to see the engine room?
05:14 AM TomLight[m]: No just the control room
05:14 AM JT-Cave: that should be pretty cool too
05:15 AM TomLight[m]: Bridge, kitchens, laundry, jail, morgue, etc
05:15 AM JT-Cave: sounds like fun, how many in the group
05:16 AM TomLight[m]: All the lower decks
05:16 AM TomLight[m]: 16
05:16 AM TomLight[m]: Very limited tour
05:18 AM TomLight[m]: You gotta get it quick and it's not advertised
05:22 AM JT-Cave: I got the wheels ordered Wednesday for the C8, dealer will swap them out when it arrives so the pickup day it will be as I originally wanted it
05:22 AM TomLight[m]: Nice
05:23 AM JT-Cave: I doubt I'll ever be able to sell the stock wheels (:
05:23 AM JT-Cave: unless someone with stock wheels damages one
05:23 AM TomLight[m]: Guess I'm too early for breakfast... not open yet
05:23 AM travis_farmer[m]: lol
05:23 AM JT-Cave: eastern time zone 4:25
05:24 AM travis_farmer[m]: ???
05:24 AM JT-Cave: err backwards lol
05:24 AM TomLight[m]: 6:23
05:24 AM travis_farmer[m]: yeah, i was going to say...
05:24 AM TomLight[m]: Lazy bastards
05:24 AM JT-Cave: yup they should have breakfast by 6am you would think
05:26 AM TomLight[m]: Main buffet opens at 7: 30 but you can get cereal before that
05:27 AM travis_farmer[m]: just had 6 deer cross my lawn....
05:27 AM TomLight[m]: What size tires does it come with
05:31 AM TomLight[m]: We stayed in the Brickel district on the way down in Miami
05:32 AM TomLight[m]: Ok breakfast is open
05:33 AM JT-Cave: if I'm on vacation I'm not eating a freaking bowl of cereal
05:33 AM JT-Cave: eggs Benedict or better
05:36 AM TomLight[m]: I ate too much yesterday
05:38 AM JT-Cave: front 245/35ZR19
05:38 AM JT-Cave: rear 305/30ZR20
05:38 AM JT-Cave: they are only 2k each lol
05:39 AM TomLight[m]: Be sure to keep nitrogen in em
05:39 AM JT-Cave: https://gmauthority.com/blog/2021/06/comparing-the-two-available-tires-on-the-chevy-c8-corvette-stingray/
05:40 AM JT-Cave: I'm not sure that nitrogen does anything for tires...
05:40 AM Jym: Eggs Benedict... YUM
05:44 AM TomLight[m]: A tiny bit less expansion / contraction than regular air
05:44 AM JT-Cave: with temperature change?
05:45 AM Jym: Reduces moisture in the tire is the only thing I could think of. I used to have a 80CF nitrogen tank, made it convenient to fill tires
05:45 AM TomLight[m]: Yes
05:47 AM TomLight[m]: They use green caps if the tires are filled with nitrogen
05:49 AM JT-Cave: https://www.mamotorworks.com/corvette/product/c8-corvette-michelin-pilot-sport-all-season-4-zp-run-flat-tire-245-35zr19-47736
05:49 AM JT-Cave: not as bad as I first thought only $360 each
05:49 AM Scopeuk: the only time I've seen nitrogen justified in car tyres it is based on thermal stability, the Nisan GTR used that justification. I highly doubt the average driver gets even remotely close enough to the performance of the car to see a difference
05:49 AM TomLight[m]: Found more on low profile tires
05:49 AM JT-Cave: https://www.mamotorworks.com/corvette/product/c8-corvette-michelin-pilot-sport-all-season-4-zp-run-flat-tire-305-30zr20-47737
05:50 AM JT-Cave: rear tire a bit more
05:51 AM JT-Cave: I don't plan on serious tracking of the car so I doubt it will have any benefit for me
05:51 AM TomLight[m]: Also make sure they are all season tires. The compound is different
05:51 AM JT-Cave: the Z71 comes with summer only tires :(
05:51 AM JT-Cave: so after 30,000 miles I'll pu tht all season tires on or sooner
05:52 AM JT-Cave: put the
05:52 AM TomLight[m]: You will have to change them in winter
05:52 AM JT-Cave: I won't drive it on snow and ice
05:53 AM TomLight[m]: Cold affects them
05:53 AM TomLight[m]: Go read about it
05:54 AM JT-Cave: from the manufacture michelin Summer tires are designed for year round usage but should not be used during the winter season where temperatures are colder and approach freezing consistently as their performance would be less than optimal.
05:56 AM JT-Cave: usually freezing is not long lived and the C8 will be above freezing in the garage when it's nasty outside
05:57 AM JT-Cave: https://www.michelinman.com/auto/browse-tires/by-vehicle/2023/chevrolet/corvette/Stingray%20w/Z51%20Performance%20Pkg./245---35ZR19-89(Y)_305---30ZR20-99(Y)
05:57 AM JT-Cave: the Z51 comes with MICHELIN Pilot® Sport 4 S tires
05:58 AM TomLight[m]: Ok
05:59 AM JT-Cave: thanks for the heads up on the summer tires
05:59 AM JT-Cave: rooster just crowed time to let the hens out
06:00 AM TomLight[m]: Np
06:03 AM JT-Cave: LOL when I told the wife the TPW is 5/25 she said will we get it by our anniversary? I said I don't think so it's 5/24/87
06:15 AM JT-Cave: opps 5.22
06:21 AM JT-Cave: wow 36 years coming up
06:31 AM travis_farmer[m]: i was 7 when you got married...
06:35 AM JT-Cave: I was 34...
08:18 AM skunkworks[m]: wow - I was in middle school.
08:20 AM TurBoss: I wasn't born lol
08:20 AM TurBoss: 😄
08:21 AM skunkworks[m]: Lol..
08:22 AM skunkworks[m]: although - the 80's were the best...
08:23 AM skunkworks[m]: (graduated from high school in 91 - so I was full on in the 80's)

11:33 AM JT[m]: Magnatron done
12:00 PM JT-Shop: nap time here
12:00 PM Jym: Goodnight
12:47 PM TomLight[m]: Naps tend to run together here
01:35 PM travis_farmer[m]: the tent frame of the new shop is on the platform! tomorrow, i will run 10-foot wide construction poly up over the frame in 3 strips, and secure it to the platform at the bottom of each side (extra leak protection), and then we will run the tent tarp up and over. oh, the end walls have to be done first, but anyway, it is at least shaping up to look like something now! :-)
01:36 PM travis_farmer[m]: crap, forgot to take pictures... now i am plum out of energy...
01:41 PM JT-Shop: no photo's it didn't happen
01:58 PM travis_farmer[m]: then i guess it didn't happen, cause i am way too pooped to go out again, and a migraine on top of it all... :-(
02:10 PM JT-Shop: don't over do your capability... my wife does that all the time then complains about her back the rest of the day
02:11 PM travis_farmer[m]: yeah, that sounds like me... well, other than being your wife...
02:41 PM XXCoder: jt yeah thats what I pictured basically. sinple
03:01 PM XXCoder: JT-Shop: I like the ball at end honestly.less stress on hand
03:02 PM JT-Shop: the magantron?
03:02 PM JT-Shop: it's a flag poll :)
03:03 PM XXCoder: ah so it was just already there lol. but its still helpful in some cases
03:05 PM JT-Woodshop: pole even
03:28 PM XXCoder: wow new joe pie video, guy is working to make very hard part
03:29 PM JT-Shop: just finished up a rework on the pole using a bit bigger dowel
03:32 PM JT-Shop: XXCoder, so I found the barrel nut that fell off my back pack blower the first trip out with the magnatron still need to find the screw... hopefully the new handle is better
03:33 PM XXCoder: cool :) hopefully also find all of those tire killer nails too
03:34 PM JT-Shop: shouldn't be any nails around here, if I drop one I pick it up
03:35 PM XXCoder: thats always good
04:09 PM TomLight[m]: Real woodworkers don't use nails
04:10 PM JT-Shop: yup
04:10 PM XXCoder: including for houses etc?
04:11 PM TomLight[m]: Sea getting a bit rougher... he picked up the pace to 20nots
04:12 PM TomLight[m]: sp?
04:12 PM TomLight[m]: Was raining some
04:12 PM XXCoder: knots?
04:14 PM JT-Shop: did you get the tour?
04:14 PM travis_farmer[m]: 3 hour tour?
04:17 PM TomLight[m]: Yup
04:18 PM TomLight[m]: Very cool
04:19 PM TomLight[m]: Probably the best part for me was the control room
04:20 PM TomLight[m]: Captain wasn't as friendly as the previous tour when the kids were young
04:22 PM TomLight[m]: Laundry is completely automated... approximately a ton every 2 min
04:23 PM TomLight[m]: From dirty to folded and stacked
04:26 PM TomLight[m]: Dozen or so control monitors each with dozens of major systems on them
04:28 PM TomLight[m]: Laundry area covered 2 floors
04:29 PM TomLight[m]: Dump a tote in and pick it up on the other side all folded
04:31 PM TomLight[m]: A lot better than the previous ship
04:31 PM travis_farmer[m]: Mmmmm, steak on the grill tonight!
04:33 PM JT-Shop: sounds like a robo laundry
04:33 PM JT-Shop: chops here
04:33 PM JT-Shop: but first time to make some chicken crack
04:36 PM TomLight[m]: Very automated
04:39 PM TomLight[m]: FDA comes aboard every 6 mo unannounced to inspect top to bottom
04:41 PM JT-Shop: mostly just towels in the laundry?
04:43 PM TomLight[m]: Several size towels and bedding
04:45 PM TomLight[m]: Sheets go in the folder damp so they are wrinkle free when they come out folded
04:50 PM TomLight[m]: Just toss the towels in and the machine straightens them orients them automatically, dries, folds and stacks them
04:51 PM CloudEvil: Helps if you can know 100% what your inputs are.
04:54 PM JT-Shop: how often do they change the sheets?
04:55 PM TomLight[m]: I'm guessing once per trip unless you request more often
04:57 PM TomLight[m]: At the end the halls fill with luggage and laundry totes
04:58 PM TomLight[m]: They only have a handful of hours to swap out the whole ship
04:58 PM JT-Shop: you get to Miami in the morning?
04:58 PM TomLight[m]: For the next group
04:59 PM JT-Shop: I wonder if they have a bunch of people on the shore that helps with the change over
04:59 PM TomLight[m]: Yup 7:30 or 8
04:59 PM TomLight[m]: Same room Stuarts
05:01 PM TomLight[m]: The shore is busy restocking food fuel etc
05:02 PM JT-Shop: I watched a video once where they changed out all the bedding on a cruse ship
05:02 PM TomLight[m]: One time they craned a generator on board
05:04 PM TomLight[m]: Their methods have changed a lot in the last few years
05:04 PM TomLight[m]: Much more streamlined
05:06 PM TomLight[m]: Including customs
05:06 PM JT-Shop: nice
05:06 PM TomLight[m]: Took us literally 10 min to board
05:08 PM JT-Shop: fastest I've ever went through customs at NY was one time one of the crew was totally drunk and we had to put him in a wheelchair... they opened up a special line for use
05:09 PM JT-Shop: us
05:10 PM TomLight[m]: They did that for us in New Orleans once when the youngest was still in a stroller
05:10 PM TomLight[m]: Bypassed couple thousand people
05:11 PM JT-Shop: nice
05:11 PM TomLight[m]: Some old duffer waved us right through
05:13 PM TomLight[m]: This was still quicker since you can do most of it online now
05:14 PM TomLight[m]: One good thing that came out of covid
05:21 PM roguish[m]: wanna watch a little yacht racing??? https://www.stfyc.com/Default.aspx?p=dynamicmodule&pageid=408145&ssid=335319&vnf=1
05:21 PM * JT-Shop watches yacht building
05:21 PM roguish[m]: catamarans on foils
05:22 PM roguish[m]: in a good breeze, they'll do like 50 knots
05:22 PM roguish[m]: a lot of pucker factor
05:26 PM roguish[m]: unfortunately today there isn't much wind on the Bay....
06:03 PM TomLight[m]: roguish: we have an old Anerica Cup yacht mounted by the river at home
06:03 PM TomLight[m]: Dunno what year but it's pretty old now
06:04 PM TomLight[m]: I think Koch sponsored it
06:05 PM TomLight[m]: Not a cat though
06:08 PM TomLight[m]: Nice guy but he's getting pretty old now

10:13 PM skunkworks[m]: I really need shim stock and feeler gauges here at home..
10:15 PM skunkworks[m]: And - youtube thinks I need gauge pins and gauge blocks... I am starting to believe that...
10:15 PM roycroft: i have some shim stock, but it's in big sheets
10:15 PM roycroft: and i have some feeler gauges, but in sets
10:15 PM roycroft: what i need are individual feeler gauges that i can use as shim stock
10:16 PM skunkworks[m]: random go-no gauges that we have (and takes 20 minutes to go through to hopefully find the the gauge I need..) really are lacking.. Gauge pins would be nice...
10:16 PM roycroft: i have some gauge blcoks as well
10:17 PM roycroft: gauge pins would be really nice, but there's a slippery slope problem
10:17 PM roycroft: you spend a bunch of money and buy a set
10:17 PM roycroft: and then you've started
10:17 PM roycroft: you realise you need the next size up, so you buy another set
10:17 PM roycroft: and another, and another
10:17 PM roycroft: then you figure out that you need undersize and oversize pins
10:18 PM skunkworks[m]: I never really needed them (hobby machinist)... But boy - the more I tinker - the more I find usages for both..
10:18 PM roycroft: it gest really expensive really fast
10:18 PM roycroft: it's so much faster and easier to fit a gauge pin than to measure a hole
10:19 PM skunkworks[m]: Sure - but I don't really spend money... So... I feel like I can pamper myself..
10:19 PM skunkworks[m]: not now..
10:19 PM skunkworks[m]: at some point.
10:20 PM skunkworks[m]: I mean. I spend money on normal living.. Food, kids.
10:20 PM roycroft: i spend more than i should on machines, tools, and tooling
10:21 PM skunkworks[m]: well - I lucked out and my dad spent the money on the machines/tooling. We just have some holes in measuring equipment.
10:21 PM roycroft: i'm looking at this metrology tool now: https://www.finescalecompany.com/our-products
10:22 PM skunkworks[m]: Measuring was secondary.. Calipers and micrometers do a really good job.
10:22 PM roycroft: i'm waiting for them to get back to me with pricing
10:23 PM skunkworks[m]: I guess we really have quite a bit of measuring equipment - Just no official gauge pins and blocks.
10:27 PM roycroft: folks seem to think that the import gauge pins are fine
10:27 PM roycroft: so you can save a lot of money if you get imported ones
10:28 PM skunkworks[m]: Those would probably be fine for me. But I have not looked to see what is out there.
10:31 PM roycroft: starrett 0.251"-0.500", for example, is about $400, while chinese import with the same range is a bit over $100
10:32 PM roycroft: i'd probably get four sets total as a start - 0.061"-0.250", 0.251"-0.500", both ranges in both actual size and minus (0.0002") size
10:32 PM roycroft: that would keep the budget under control better
10:33 PM roycroft: figuring diminishing returns on the ease of measuring with gauge blocks vs other tools above 0.500"
10:34 PM skunkworks[m]: Yah... At that point - telescoping bore gauges take care of that..
10:34 PM roycroft: 0.011"-0.060" sets aren't that expensive, so maybe go down to that range as well
10:35 PM roycroft: but now you have six sets of gauge pins
10:36 PM roycroft: and we haven't talked metric yet
10:36 PM skunkworks[m]: lol.. STOP!
10:36 PM roycroft: that's why i say it's a slippery slope
10:37 PM roycroft: and for me, i have the added problem of where to store them
10:37 PM skunkworks[m]: The K&T is down right now (hydraulic hose burst - have not felt like fixing it - have to remove decking and crawn into the pit.
10:38 PM roycroft: i can't keep them in the shop, because they might rust during the rainy season
10:38 PM skunkworks[m]: So I have been using the tormach 440 prototype that I fixed up - it does a darn good job...
10:39 PM skunkworks[m]: Thank goodness I got a probe setup a probe for it. I can't imagine a machine without a touch probe.
10:40 PM skunkworks[m]: that sentence..
10:40 PM roycroft: i'm going to need a touch probe for my cnc router whenever i get it built
10:41 PM skunkworks[m]: It makes things so much easier..
10:41 PM roycroft: probably several, as i'll be setting parts up on different parts of the machine in different orientations, and won't be able to index things from a common location
10:41 PM roycroft: i've thought about that a big
10:41 PM roycroft: bit
10:42 PM roycroft: i was originally going to only use the router for making jigs and fixtures for the shop, but my thinking has evolved and i'll probably do some production parts on it
10:42 PM skunkworks[m]: turn the part over - probe a reference - feature - run program
10:43 PM roycroft: it would be to expensive doing the setups without a touch probe
10:43 PM roycroft: and my goal is not to lose money
10:50 PM roycroft: my problem is that my parts are wood, so i need a metal plate to use for the touch probe, and the plate has to be indexed to the part, which may be mounted an odd angle
10:52 PM XXCoder: theres a lot of probe projects
10:52 PM XXCoder: including one by someone here that uses rod and has centering adjustments
10:53 PM XXCoder: it dont need poart to be metal or conductive
10:53 PM roycroft: my real problem is that i spend a lot of time thinking about it and reading/watching videos, but i'm not really going to know what i need to do until i start doing it
10:54 PM XXCoder: I do want to make one, but my design will be super flat for minium possible z height takeb
10:54 PM XXCoder: not sure how to do centering adjustments
10:54 PM roycroft: and this laser enclosure project has put my table saw cabinet project behind schedule, and i have to get that done before i can start on the cnc router
10:54 PM roycroft: i spent a bunch of time today working on my fabrication shop - cleaning it up, reorganizing it
10:55 PM roycroft: i think by tomorrow i'll be able to set up for spray painting in that shop, so i can get going on the laser enclosure
10:56 PM roycroft: the laser enclosure is ready for paint, except for the lid, so i'll be able to do that shortly after the spray booth setup is done
10:57 PM roycroft: ooh
10:58 PM roycroft: uri tuchman finally posted a new video
10:58 PM roycroft: it's been like 3 months since he posted
