12:38 AM Deejay: moin
01:04 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
01:11 AM roycroft: edit your sources.list entry for the repository you're using
01:12 AM roycroft: change deb http://blah.blah.blah to deb [trusted=yes] http:/blah.blah.blah
01:12 AM roycroft: and see if that works
01:12 AM roycroft: do an apt update after that
01:13 AM roycroft: and i am taking my leave for the night now, so if that doesn't work hopefully someone else will be able to help
01:13 AM Aschiraldi: Thanks!  I'll give it a shot.
01:57 AM Aschiraldi: I think that worked. opening sources.list as root, I found that deb and deb-src had been commented out by the installer for some reason and it was attempting to update from a cd-rom that doesn't exist.  I deleted the cd-rom stuff, uncommented deb and deb-src and put the trusted tag on them, saved, rebooted, sudo apt-get upgrade downloaded,
01:57 AM Aschiraldi: unpacked, and installed a huge amount of things.  Thanks so much!  Pretty steep learning curve for a first timer so I'm learning hard

05:33 AM Tom_L: Morning
05:57 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
05:58 AM Tom_L: Mostly cloudy this morning
05:59 AM travis_farmer[m]: finally getting a run of sunny days, here :-)
07:56 AM skunkworks[m]: Thunder storms today.
07:59 AM Lcvette[m]: JT-Cave morning
08:01 AM Lcvette[m]: Turboss and Joco are looking into the Mesact issue with the joints, we are going to look into the feasibility of adding qtpyvcp/probe basic requirements to the config builder
08:01 AM Lcvette[m]: 😄
08:14 AM JT-Cave: make sure they are looking at mesact2
08:14 AM JT-Cave: and cool
08:14 AM Lcvette[m]: JT-Cave: will do
09:10 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
09:11 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, any more changes to Mesact2?
09:12 AM JT-Cave: no, I've been distracted...
09:12 AM Tom_L: Me too...
09:12 AM JT-Cave: just got a 3100 status with a TPW of 5/22!!!!
09:12 AM Tom_L: Cool
09:14 AM Tom_L: Boys barely drove their trucks before we left
09:16 AM * JT-Cave goes back to cleaning chicken shit
09:16 AM JT-Cave: 3100 ORDER AVAILABLE TO SEQUENCE
09:21 AM Tom_L: Wondered what it was... don't have my list here
09:23 AM JT-Cave: that means there are no constraints on materials to assemble so 3300 should follow soon
09:28 AM Tom_L: Gonna keep the C5 until the C8 is delivered?
09:35 AM JT-Cave: yup... still up on a fence if I want keep it or not
09:35 AM JT-Cave: but I'm betting after 15 seconds in the C8 I'll have my mind made up
09:36 AM Tom_L: Haha..
09:37 AM Tom_L: Did you get to test drive one before ordering?
09:37 AM JT-Cave: I didn't ask to drive the one they had on the showroom floor... but we did sit in it and drooled on the carpet
09:42 AM Jymm: Cleanup on isle 5,6, and 7
09:44 AM Jymm: JT-Cave, WHAT, no rubber floor mats to keep the drool contained?
09:49 AM JT-Shop: it had Jake Logo rubber floor mats... so we didn't mind drooling on them
09:51 AM jdh: JT: are you near Jeff. city?
09:53 AM Jymm: JT-Shop, LOL
09:53 AM JT-Shop: no, and there is no straight roads from here to jeff city
09:53 AM JT-Shop: or cuba or many places...
10:04 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
10:09 AM * roycroft prefers the crooked path anyway
10:09 AM roycroft: straight roads are boring
10:10 AM Tom_L: Not at 300mph
10:10 AM roycroft: well i'm a putt-putt driver
10:10 AM JT-Shop: lol
10:11 AM roycroft: so i would not know
10:11 AM Tom_L: For a brief moment
10:11 AM Tom_L: A friend used to run alcohol funny cars
10:11 AM roycroft: some would not classify me as that, as i accelerate quickly from a stop
10:11 AM roycroft: but i never exceed the posted speed limit
10:14 AM Tom_L: A prius can do that??
10:15 AM roycroft: of course it can
10:15 AM roycroft: it has a big dc motor in it
10:16 AM roycroft: that's the whole purpose of the motor - to provide acceleration horsepower
10:16 AM Tom_L: I know..just couldn't help it...
10:16 AM JT-Shop: lol
10:16 AM roycroft: most people are shocked when my prius jumps out of an intersection
10:17 AM roycroft: but it's really the proper way to drive the vehicle
10:17 AM roycroft: it's a lot more fuel-efficient to accelerate quickly and then set the cruise control than to creep up to speed
10:17 AM roycroft: also, the majority of wrecks occur in an interesection
10:18 AM roycroft: the less time i spend in an intersection the less chance of being engaged in a wreck
10:18 AM Tom_L: I keep telling my wife that
10:19 AM roycroft: it seems counterintuitive to folks, but accelerating quickly is actually safe, defensive driving
10:19 AM roycroft: which demonstrates why people should not rely on intuition to make decisions
10:20 AM roycroft: this is going to be a long day
10:20 AM roycroft: not only is it a friday, i'm on vacation for a week after today
10:21 AM roycroft: so every hour is going to seem to last two hours until 3 o'clock
10:22 AM Tom_L: I feel this week has flown by
10:26 AM JT-Shop: I bet it has
10:27 AM roycroft: like next week will for me
10:31 AM Unterhaus_: octave is really pretty good, but I should use python instead
10:34 AM JT-Shop: Tom_L, check out the performance data recorder https://www.chevrolet.com/performance/corvette-experience#driverassistance
10:42 AM Tom_L: Nice
10:42 AM Tom_L: ..Time for lunch
10:44 AM jdh: JT-Shop: I'm riding the Katy Trail in a couple of weeks. Was looking for food supply stops. There is a big dead space on the trail for stuff.
10:46 AM JT-Shop: my buddy has rode the Katy Trail, I have not. What part are you riding?
10:46 AM jdh: Most of it. Clinton to St. Charles
10:46 AM jdh: 220ish miles
10:46 AM JT-Shop: WOW that's a long ride
10:47 AM jdh: We are going to do 3 days. One night is in Rhineland though and the only restaraunt near there burned down a few months ago.
10:47 AM JT-Shop: ouch
10:47 AM jdh: No stores or anything. Hoping we can uber or something into Hermann
10:48 AM JT-Shop: how far is Hermann?
10:49 AM jdh: Only about 7 miles, but add that round trip on top of the rest of the day sounds painful.
10:49 AM JT-Shop: hmm McKittrick is a lot closer to Hermann
10:49 AM jdh: There is a sketchy gas station in McKittrick
10:50 AM jdh: That's about it.
10:50 AM JT-Shop: looks like they have the Loutre Market there
10:51 AM JT-Shop: about lunch time here
10:55 AM roguish[m]: roycroft: hey. you there????
11:01 AM roycroft: i am, for another six hours
11:03 AM roguish[m]: roycroft: can a managed network switch block outgoing/incoming to the primary network?
11:04 AM roycroft: usually a managed switch can do that kind of packet filtering
11:04 AM jdh: Wow... missed the market. That should make this section much better!
11:04 AM roguish[m]: ah, cool. thought so, had to ask the network king....
11:05 AM jdh: I stopped at that gas station a couple of years ago. Really creepy.
11:05 AM roycroft: i wouldn't say i'm a network king
11:05 AM roycroft: but i do a fair amount of that kind of stuff
11:30 AM jdh: roycroft can do a three way handshake in his sleep!
11:40 AM roycroft: sometimes i can even do the hokey-pokey in my sleep
11:42 AM roycroft: but i've still never figure out if that's what it's all about
12:15 PM * JT-Shop calls an audible... nap time
01:19 PM roycroft: nice
01:20 PM roycroft: the weather forecast for next week has been calling for rain until the weekend, but now it's showing the sunshine arriving on tuesday, and lasting through the week
01:20 PM roycroft: i was hoping for some nice weather
02:17 PM JT-Cave: well crap I configured the nighthawk for bridge mode but I don't see it...
02:23 PM XXCoder: rain was called on monday. didnt rain till thurs

02:50 PM JT-Woodshop: yo
02:57 PM XXCoder: hey
03:05 PM * JT-Shop tries to remain calm...
03:05 PM travis_farmer[m]: ???
03:06 PM JT-Woodshop: my order status went to 3300 this afternoon
03:12 PM JT-Shop: went from 3000 yesterday to 3100 this morning then 3300 this afternoon
03:12 PM travis_farmer[m]: NICE!!!
03:12 PM JT-Shop: 3000 Order Accepted by Production Control
03:12 PM JT-Shop: 3100 Order Available to Sequence
03:13 PM JT-Shop: 3300 Order Selected and Scheduled for Production by Assembly Plant
03:13 PM JT-Shop: TPW is 5/22
03:13 PM JT-Shop: TPW == Target Production Week
03:13 PM travis_farmer[m]: :-)
03:13 PM JT-Shop: the next big one is 3400 Order Broadcasted for Production
03:14 PM * JT-Shop takes a deep breath and zens out for a bit
03:16 PM JT-Shop: at 3400 I can get the VIN and determine what day it will be built
03:17 PM * travis_farmer[m] realizes it has been DAYS since last working on his machine... really gotta get the new shop built....
03:23 PM JT-Woodshop: I thought your router was working now?
03:24 PM travis_farmer[m]: it does, just gotta finish some simple tasks that will be easier in the new shop. like adding a spoilboard
03:25 PM JT-Woodshop: ah
03:26 PM JT-Woodshop: I can understand how that would be a pia in a very small place
03:26 PM travis_farmer[m]: yes, the gantry is in the way
04:01 PM JT-Shop: got a photo of the inside of your shop?
04:01 PM travis_farmer[m]: me? not yet
04:02 PM XXCoder: i remember that, it was basically 99% router in trailer something
04:02 PM travis_farmer[m]: it is a disaster right now...
04:02 PM travis_farmer[m]: yes XX, it is
04:02 PM XXCoder: i remember something about tents in plan
04:02 PM XXCoder: i certainly remember my idea of using isulation between two tents
04:02 PM JT-Shop: better to show it in it's working clothes
04:03 PM travis_farmer[m]: yeah, the new one will be under a tent, as i have it, and is all i can afford
04:03 PM travis_farmer[m]: i just hope no leaks
04:05 PM travis_farmer[m]: "better to show it in it's working clothes" ??? not sure i understand
04:06 PM JT-Shop: old farmer saying, they want to see the machine as it is normally not dressed up
04:06 PM travis_farmer[m]: ahh, ok. i will get a pic of the disaster tomorrow.
04:07 PM travis_farmer[m]: currently enjoying a cup of coffee, and watching the news. :-)
04:07 PM * JT-Shop is watching Leo
04:42 PM * travis_farmer[m] heads out to get supper (Chinese food)
05:00 PM roycroft: yay! i am on vacation now!
05:01 PM roycroft: and of course i got an email from my boss seconds before quitting time asking me to do a few things before i go
05:01 PM roycroft: but i just closed out my email client at exactly 3 without responding
05:01 PM XXCoder: 🎉
05:01 PM roycroft: i guess the email didn't arrive in time or something
05:12 PM Unterhaus_: it's weird how emails get delayed nowadays
05:14 PM roycroft: email always has been a store-and-forward protocol
05:16 PM roycroft: back in the uucp days, since i had no local uucp connection i had to use sprint's "telenet" service, which gave me outdials to cities all over the country via a local indial number, but only at night
05:16 PM roycroft: so i would exchange emails every night
05:23 PM Unterhaus_: I think you have to come up with a more modern story to get your boss to believe you didn't get his email today
05:23 PM Unterhaus_: I guess I can't charge my full consulting rate for filling out an invoice
05:24 PM XXCoder: story = easier to find lies
05:24 PM XXCoder: just say didnt see emails thats it. he didnt read it certainly so thats even techinically true
05:24 PM Unterhaus_: you could just explain the full protocol in excruciating detail
05:25 PM roycroft: he sent the email literally seconds before quitting time
05:25 PM roycroft: that i did not get it in time is entirely plausible
05:25 PM Unterhaus_: your mistake for looking at your email client
05:25 PM JT-Shop: lol
05:25 PM roycroft: but also, i don't care
05:27 PM Unterhaus_: sending an email seconds before quitting time is evil, you are doing him a favor by pretending he didn't do it
05:28 PM roycroft: yes, but i am on vacation now, so let's not talk about my boss for a week :)
05:28 PM XXCoder: :)
05:28 PM Unterhaus_: only if it's entertaining
05:29 PM xxcoder[m]: unrelated note. this is pretty cool lol https://www.reddit.com/r/functionalprint/comments/1392r83/i_made_a_bookmark_that_holds_a_brass_vernier/
05:31 PM roycroft: that's a cool concept, but it's way way way too thick to use as a bookmark
05:32 PM XXCoder: yeah
05:32 PM XXCoder: I like very thin ones, expecially silk one
05:32 PM XXCoder: I used to use tp paper for papermark. it will never fall out as even slight weight stops it from falling out
05:32 PM andypugh: Would be fun to make one out of PCB stencil. That could be nice and thin.
05:32 PM roycroft: wood or metal ones can be ok, but only if they're 0.5mm thick or less
05:33 PM roycroft: a pcb stencil would, indeed, make a nice bookmark
05:34 PM roycroft: i should go run errands and then get some work done on my laser enclosure
05:34 PM roycroft: i want to get that done as soon as possible
05:36 PM roycroft: i decided a while back to get a paint sprayer for latex paint when i'm building cabinets/furniture/etc. that gets painted, and i've been looking at airless sprayers
05:36 PM roycroft: but i decided to try an automotive type hvlp sprayer instead, since i have a decent size air compressor already
05:36 PM XXCoder: sencil is pretty thin allright. 0.125mm
05:36 PM roycroft: i think it should do a decent job with latex paint
05:39 PM JT-Shop: viasat won the dispute the bastards
05:41 PM XXCoder: on dish you couldnt get to work?
05:45 PM Unterhaus_: invoice submitted
05:45 PM JT-Shop: no, viasat claimed I didn't return the modem but they are full of shit
05:46 PM Unterhaus_: if I printed that caliper holder it would crush down to toilet paper thickness
05:46 PM XXCoder: ugh so basically like certain cable internet company here. they will claim you never returned it, even if you take pictures of yourself returning it
05:47 PM XXCoder: some company treat moden return "failures" as profit source :(
06:18 PM Unterhaus_: lcnc is old enough we can have nostalgic conversations about the old days
06:38 PM TomLight[m]: Irc client pooped out on me
06:39 PM TomLight[m]: Took a while to find my matrix login
06:40 PM TomLight[m]: JT-Shop: 3300!!!
06:53 PM TomLight[m]: but did you answer it??
06:53 PM roycroft: yes, because if i did not he'd just keep calling
06:53 PM roycroft: and it was a customer issue
06:54 PM roycroft: the customer, to whom i send his email password on a regular basis, is in california, and can't get his email
06:54 PM roycroft: he thinks his password is wrong, but he thinks he also might not have data service where he is, and he wants us to send him a link to his passwor again
06:55 PM roycroft: i just told my boss "well, his password is stored where it always is - so go to the secure document server and send him the link, like we always do"
06:55 PM roycroft: why did i get called for that?
06:56 PM roycroft: my boss asked "can you do it?
06:56 PM roycroft: i asked "can't you?"
06:56 PM roycroft: he's doing it
06:56 PM XXCoder: guy sure wants you to work for free
06:56 PM * roycroft hopes the week gets better
06:56 PM TomLight[m]: Tell him your vacation has just been extended
06:57 PM XXCoder: some countries its illegal to call person on vacation for work related reasons
06:57 PM roycroft: i've done that before, tomlight
06:57 PM roycroft: and the thing is, my boss could have sent the link in less time than it took to call me
06:57 PM roycroft: or even off-hours, xxcoder
06:57 PM XXCoder: indeed
06:57 PM roycroft: but there is a catch here - i am on-call 24/7
06:57 PM TomLight[m]: Quite a guy
06:57 PM roycroft: so that would not apply to me
06:58 PM roycroft: i get paid $2/hour *just* to be on-call
06:58 PM roycroft: whether i do anything or not
06:58 PM roycroft: and if my pager makes noise i get more money
06:58 PM roycroft: that $2/hour adds up to an extra $1k+/month
06:58 PM roycroft: sometimes, though, i wonder if it's worth it
06:59 PM roycroft: but i'd also hate to give up the money
07:00 PM * roycroft thinks it's time for some quality shop time, and considers pushing the dnd button on the shop phone
07:11 PM TomLight[m]: How do you search for a room with element?
07:12 PM TomLight[m]: I can get a list but dunno how to search
07:16 PM XXCoder: https://youtu.be/iltg4EVFDys interesting, though guy uses table saw and router in a bit risky way
07:19 PM XXCoder: light use only I think
