08:57 AM JT-Shop: fu king windblows now won't let me connect to my nas but internet works what a pos os
08:58 AM skunkworks[m]: 10?
09:04 AM JT-Shop: 7
09:04 AM JT-Shop: had to reboot again to get access to the nas
09:04 AM skunkworks[m]: ha
09:04 AM skunkworks[m]: ah
09:08 AM JT-Shop: had to shut down the lan to get wb to connect to the internet lol
09:09 AM JT-Shop: time to clean chicken shit :)

09:28 AM Khalidibnal-Wali: Any networking guy here? I am using data connection. Is it possible to create shell(e.g reverse tcp, http) with data connection?
09:29 AM Jym: JT-Shop, Instead of rebooting, you might try: ipconfig /renew
10:08 AM JT-Shop: thanks Jym
10:15 AM JT-Shop: an error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection. The name specified in the network control block is in use on a remote adapter. The NCB is the data.
10:17 AM JT-Shop: second try ipconfig /renew seemed to work
10:20 AM roycroft: sounds like a dhcp conflict
10:23 AM JT-Shop: hmm I wonder if that nighhawk router I added in the Cave is the problem...
10:23 AM JT-Shop: I'd rather it just be a switch but don't want to create and account just to have access on my phone and I can't see it on the lan...
10:25 AM roycroft: i was about to say you might not blame windows for this
10:25 AM JT-Shop: it only seems to affect that one windblows pc for some reason
10:25 AM roycroft: if you have two devices handing out leases that will be an ongoing problem
10:26 AM roycroft: if they are on the same network
10:26 AM JT-Shop: I assume I'll have to plug the nighthawk in by itself to configure it when I get some time
10:27 AM * roycroft avoids consumer grade network gear as much as possible, because it's too difficult to provision properly
10:28 AM roycroft: that stuff always tries to be clever, and often fails
10:33 AM skunkworks[m]: I had a linksys router that would not connect to the cable modem unless I rebooted the cable modem after the router was up.
10:34 AM skunkworks[m]: Switched it over to openwrt - no issues since then.
10:35 AM JT-Shop: is that software you install on the router?
10:37 AM roycroft: yes, jt-shop
10:38 AM JT-Shop: thanks
10:47 AM skunkworks[m]: yes - sorry - got side tracked. Needs to be hardware that is supported..
10:48 AM JT-Shop: looks like the nighthawk is supported just need to figure out what model I have
11:08 AM roycroft: openwrt has been around for 20 years or so now, and it's very widely-deployed
11:09 AM roycroft: yeah, it started in 2004
11:12 AM JT-Cave: it would be nice to just have open wifi so when my daughters come to visit they don't need a crazy long password
11:16 AM jasen75 is now known as jasen70
11:21 AM Unterhaus_: QOTD: Can someone please tell me what Iā€™m doing wrong? Every time I use my router table it catches and fires my work across the workshop!
11:24 AM roycroft: i would never have an open wifi ap on my network
11:25 AM roycroft: someone could pull up in their car outside my house, connect to my network and download kiddie porn
11:25 AM roycroft: guess who would have to deal with the cops about that
11:25 AM roycroft: the next time your daughters visit configure their devices with your wpa key and have the devices save the key
11:26 AM roycroft: they should not have to enter it again after that
11:27 AM * roycroft does not even broadcast his ssid
11:28 AM roycroft: hmm, amazon just sent me a spend summary for my business account
11:28 AM roycroft: they informed me that i could save a average of $55.76 on shipping per month if i signed up for amazon prime
11:29 AM roycroft: my monthly average spend on shipping is currently $0
11:29 AM roycroft: does that mean that if i sign up for amazon prime they will send me a check for $55.76 every month?
11:32 AM Unterhaus_: wouldn't that be nice
11:32 AM JT-Shop: I'm far enough from the road that no one will be able to connect without getting shot
11:33 AM Unterhaus_: cantenna
11:35 AM Unterhaus_: I need to go mow the yard before it starts raining again. Not saying we have gotten a lot of rain, but animals have been walking by in pairs
11:35 AM JT-Shop: looks like the nighthawk AX2400 is not supported yet...
11:39 AM Unterhaus_: most devices don't have good support. Have to pick one that is well-supported
11:39 AM JT-Shop: how do you pick one that is well supported?
11:39 AM Unterhaus_: that usually means somewhat outdated
11:39 AM JT-Shop: is there a list of well supported modems?
11:40 AM JT-Shop: lol
11:40 AM JT-Shop: which means something you can't buy anymore
11:40 AM Unterhaus_: not necessarily
11:41 AM JT-Shop: https://openwrt.org/toh/views/toh_available_16128
11:43 AM Unterhaus_: that table has always induced a bad case of analysis paralysis for me
11:44 AM * JT-Shop gives up and heads to town for a bit
11:46 AM JT-Shop: even my netgear that's in the drawer is not on the list lol
11:47 AM * JT-Shop wonders if a certain class of router is supported
11:48 AM Unterhaus_: could check dd-wrt
11:49 AM Unterhaus_: I had a router that was supported by dd-wrt but not open wrt
11:49 AM Unterhaus_: I think I managed to buy one that's supported by openwrt by random chance
11:54 AM roycroft: i tend to buy old cisco gear for my networking needs
11:54 AM roycroft: it's a lot easier to deal with than the consumer-grade stuff
11:55 AM roycroft: but networking is my profession, so i should imagine that the case is reversed for the average user
11:55 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
11:57 AM Unterhaus_: they always have high-end networking equipment for sale at penn state salvage. I figure it uses too much electricity
11:58 AM Unterhaus_: never seen any wifi equipment there, they must swap it out occasionally
11:58 AM Unterhaus_: if you have more than one router, there usually are settings to make the second one work better
11:59 AM Unterhaus_: Which I never do because it usually works okay. There was one time an update changed the IP of both routers to the same IP
11:59 AM Tom_L: I made mine a repeater
11:59 AM Unterhaus_: that was annoying. I got an error message that said something to the effect that the maker of the equipment needed to use the IP, so they took it
12:00 PM Tom_L: Heh
12:00 PM Unterhaus_: which makes no sense at all. And how hard would it be to figure out that there is going to be a conflict?
12:00 PM roycroft: i do use a linksys wifi router, but i put it in transparent bridge mode
12:00 PM roycroft: so it doesn't do anything clever - it just bridges the ethernet to the wifi
12:00 PM Unterhaus_: your main router is something else?
12:01 PM Tom_L: Ok, time for lunch...
12:01 PM roycroft: i use a cisco asa5520 as my edge router
12:01 PM roycroft: so combo router/firewall
12:01 PM roycroft: and i have a cablemodem for my internet connection
12:01 PM Unterhaus_: I should see if our secondary router has an easy setting for that
12:02 PM Unterhaus_: this pair seems to work fine as two routers though
12:03 PM Unterhaus_: that cisco is almost as old as the computer I'm typing this on
12:04 PM Unterhaus_: at one time I thought about setting up a linux computer as my firewall, I even bought a computer for it
12:09 PM Unterhaus_: I might have waited too long to mow the lawn, our household weather forcaster (little dog) just told me there is a thunderstorm nearby
12:11 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
12:13 PM roycroft: i got mine done last weekend, but it's time to do it again, and the rain has returned
12:14 PM roycroft: it looks like we get sunshine again on wednesday next, so the grass will just have to look dishevelled for a few days
12:14 PM roycroft: it won't be the first time
12:14 PM * roycroft has never been a golf course lawn manicuring kind of person, and never will be
12:32 PM skunkworks[m]: I have been using these https://openwrt.org/toh/linksys/wrt1900acs#hardware_highlights
12:32 PM skunkworks[m]: because I have had good luck and are supported
12:33 PM roycroft: i have some fancy linksys now that claims to do 200Mb/s on the wifi
12:34 PM roycroft: i haven't done any speed tests but i've not noticed any difference in speed over wifi vs. hard-wired ethernet, so it probably does a decent job
12:34 PM roycroft: wrt54g2 is what i have
12:36 PM skunkworks[m]: lol - classic šŸ™‚
12:37 PM skunkworks[m]: bit or bytes? My phone from the above wrt1900acs does 232mbs just now
12:37 PM skunkworks[m]: on 5ghz band
12:38 PM skunkworks[m]: but that is bits
12:38 PM roycroft: bits
12:38 PM roycroft: network bandwidth is generally measured in bit/second, not bytes/second
12:38 PM skunkworks[m]: sure.. but I sure can get confused some times.. šŸ™‚
12:39 PM roycroft: i don't use caps much on irc, but i'd say MB/s if i meant megabytes/second
12:39 PM skunkworks[m]: Ok. we are on the same page.
12:39 PM roycroft: i won't expect you to remember that though, so i won't be offended if you ever ask me again
12:41 PM skunkworks[m]: wired here is 516.58Mb/s
12:42 PM roycroft: my wired network is gigabit, but i've never measured actual performance
12:42 PM roycroft: it all works well enough for me, and that's all that matters :)
12:43 PM skunkworks[m]: Dad tested his starlink yesterday.. 159Mbs/19Mbs (I still think that is amazing..)
12:44 PM skunkworks[m]: he went from knowing his internet was slow every day - to no even thinking about it.
12:46 PM skunkworks[m]: Coming from 1MbsX256Kbs dsl.. On a good day
12:47 PM skunkworks[m]: Starlink capped downloads to 1TB a couple months ago - now they removed the cap.
12:48 PM skunkworks[m]: well - it didn't cut you off - you just were put in a low priority. (dad never hit it)
12:50 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
01:28 PM Unterhaus_: I had and unused one of the origninal wrt and never set it up. Got it for free and then gave it away
02:51 PM JT-Shop: yup I got the email that they removed the cap
02:54 PM xxcoder[m]: https://www.reddit.com/r/Machinists/comments/137xevf/eastern_gate_of_belgrade/
02:54 PM xxcoder[m]: think its big enough to run some parts?
02:54 PM xxcoder[m]: šŸ˜‰
02:56 PM roycroft: have any of you dealt with m&m tool and machinery?
02:56 PM roycroft: they are a spare parts vendor for several major bands
02:56 PM roycroft: brands
02:56 PM roycroft: i placed an order with them, and they were good about sending me an invoice and charging me, but not beyond that
02:57 PM roycroft: no product, no response to emails, their toll-free number (which was printed on the invoice) has been disconnected
02:57 PM roycroft: i did find a long-distance number for them, which promptly dumped me into voicemail
02:57 PM XXCoder: uhoh sounds like company is going under
02:57 PM roycroft: i don't know whether to wait a bit or to initiate a chargeback
02:58 PM roycroft: festool referred me to them
02:58 PM roycroft: i think at the very least i should let festool know
02:58 PM XXCoder: thats good idea. they might not know about issues
03:00 PM roycroft: yes
03:00 PM roycroft: it doesn't look good for them to be referring to flaky/defunct companies
03:39 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ

03:51 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
03:54 PM Tom_L: Get your router figured out or the win 7 issue?
03:55 PM JT-Shop: just changed the nighthawk router to bridge mode so we will see
03:56 PM JT-Shop: Revere is closing down the Poplar Bluff pland
03:56 PM JT-Shop: plant
03:57 PM JT-Shop: the lan issue seems to be gone
04:01 PM Tom_L: Kinda sad about Revere
04:02 PM Tom_L: Just shoved off St Maartin
04:02 PM Tom_L: 2 sea days now
04:02 PM JT-Shop: where to next
04:04 PM Tom_L: Miami
04:04 PM JT-Shop: gained 10 pounds yet?
04:05 PM Tom_L: I wouldn't doubt it but I've been trying to be good
04:05 PM JT-Shop: lol
04:05 PM Tom_L: They make it real hard
04:05 PM JT-Shop: I bet
04:06 PM Tom_L: Although it's not like pre-covid
04:08 PM JT-Shop: yeah it was a shock to see it in the front page of the paper today
04:08 PM Tom_L: Some things are a pita like the wave to open doors that don't always work
04:08 PM Tom_L: Covid?
04:08 PM JT-Shop: Revere closing
04:09 PM Tom_L: Oh I bet
04:09 PM XXCoder: this? https://reverecopper.com/
04:10 PM Tom_L: I was kinda surprised myself since you just did work for them
04:10 PM JT-Shop: XXCoder, no, revere plastics
04:11 PM Tom_L: Almost dinner time here. May ck in later
04:11 PM XXCoder: https://www.revereplasticssystems.com/ ?
04:11 PM JT-Shop: yup
04:12 PM XXCoder: interesting
04:28 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
05:25 PM Unterhaus_: I'm watching a guitar repair video where the guy needed a bridge, so he went out and stole some antlers from a deer
05:30 PM Unterhaus_: he's using a martin d28 as a workbench
05:55 PM Unterhaus_: I think he butchered the finish around the bridge, that's not great
06:07 PM * JT-Shop calls it a night
06:28 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
07:26 PM bjorkintosh: whaaat? I never realized there was a bot in the room!
07:27 PM XXCoder: theres in least one yeah.
07:36 PM roycroft: we might all be bots - you never know
07:38 PM TurBoss: i can prove all you are bots šŸ™‚
07:39 PM * TurBoss uploaded an image: (23KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/pdXXTFRMHrlVwnBremlZyZhm/image.png >
07:39 PM XXCoder: lol
07:39 PM TurBoss: me included bee bop
08:00 PM unterhausen[m]: I'm no bot
08:02 PM Unterhaus_: I didn't realize XXCoder is out on the roof of my house looking in the window
08:02 PM XXCoder: not me, because thats too much work
08:03 PM Unterhaus_: that's what discord says about you
08:03 PM Unterhaus_: you'd be complaining about me hitting you with my chair if you were inside
08:07 PM Unterhaus_ is now known as Unterhausen
08:07 PM Unterhausen: it would be nice if I could figure out how to get hexchat to log me in with my nick
08:08 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
08:08 PM Unterhausen: eurotherm makes you calculate a checksum for their temperature controller messages over serial. Impossible to do by hand
08:13 PM unterhausen[m]: not really impossible. You just have to convert 15 ascii characters to binary and then bitwise xor them together
08:13 PM unterhausen[m]: convert back to ascii
08:14 PM Unterhausen: and also my client was incommunicado for so long I lost my notes
08:30 PM bjorkintosh: <TurBoss> i can prove all you are bots šŸ™‚ Hah! Very clever.
08:39 PM CaptHindsight[m]: all bots lie
08:40 PM TurBoss: šŸ™‚
08:48 PM roycroft: i am a bot
08:48 PM roycroft: i alway lie
08:49 PM roycroft: always
08:49 PM * roycroft watches capthindsight go all norman
08:50 PM XXCoder: This sentance is a lie
08:53 PM bjorkintosh: aww how cute! A paradox.
08:53 PM CloudEvil: This sentance is a potato.
08:53 PM bjorkintosh: On which planet?
08:54 PM XXCoder: well cloud finally solved the world hunger
08:54 PM bjorkintosh: hahaha
08:55 PM bjorkintosh: Thus spake zarathusCloud https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpJ6anurfuw
09:07 PM roycroft: why does this channel smell like camels all of a sudden?
09:08 PM bjorkintosh: roycroft, it's about 6:AM-ish in Dubai. the camels are waking up.
09:08 PM bjorkintosh: did you happen to teleport to Dubai all of a sudden?
09:08 PM roycroft: no
09:09 PM roycroft: it's probably because of zarathuscloud
09:10 PM roycroft: maybe it's midnight at the oasis
09:11 PM roycroft: i hear folks are queueing up for the coronation already
09:12 PM bjorkintosh: Charlie?
09:12 PM roycroft: yes
09:12 PM bjorkintosh: why the hell do they care about that caricature?!
09:13 PM roycroft: over 1000 years of tradition, i suppose
09:14 PM bjorkintosh: the people are most definitely younger than that!
09:14 PM bjorkintosh: they won't remember.
09:23 PM XXCoder: probably will be most recorded one though
09:23 PM XXCoder: enough that they probably could make animated 3d model out of it

10:41 PM roycroft: most of the world have moved on to cinco de mayo by now
10:41 PM roycroft: but it's still may the fourth be with you here
10:41 PM XXCoder: most of world is not me
10:41 PM XXCoder: ;)
10:46 PM roycroft: i am on vacation after work tomorrow
10:46 PM XXCoder: weekend vacation?
10:47 PM roycroft: i'm off all next week
10:47 PM XXCoder: ahh nice
10:51 PM XXCoder: good video so far
11:04 PM CaptHindsight[m]: two doxes
