01:16 AM Deejay: moin
02:00 AM travis_farmer[m]: Morning ☕️
02:51 AM c101horse[m]: Reason why i went and got servo's
04:30 AM Tom_L: morning
05:09 AM travis_farmer: did the Matrix server go down? i can't connect to it...
05:10 AM XXCoder: dont know
05:10 AM XXCoder: bridge to discord seems still fine
05:10 AM travis_farmer: Hmmm, must be something at my end...
05:13 AM JT-Cave: morning
05:14 AM travis_farmer: almost like i got banned from the Matrix server or something...
05:17 AM * travis_farmer853 uploaded an image: (48KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/EhjpWwQuSbkIxCoqQjloiclC/Untitled-1.png >
05:17 AM travis_farmer853: this is what i see...
05:17 AM travis_farmer: wait, i think it is coming back... sort-of...
06:22 AM Rowow[m]: or a closed loop stepper
06:22 AM Rowow[m]: my philosophy is if you are losing steps during a operation then you have a undersized motor.
06:22 AM Rowow[m]: if you go with the same cost servo motor you are going to have a much less power
06:22 AM Rowow[m]: so better to just buy a bigger/closed loop stepper
07:05 AM * travis_farmer[m] may be moving my web server rack from my bedroom, down two flights of stairs, to the basement... as rack servers are impressively heavy, i am only half looking forward to it...
07:14 AM * JT-Cave hopes to back fill the hole by the well casing this morning before the rain starts
07:14 AM Tom_L: little lightening last night but no rain
07:15 AM Tom_L: cooler weather here
07:17 AM JT-Cave: forecast is for heavy rain tonight
07:52 AM Norfreakz[m] is now known as Norfreakz9003[m]
09:12 AM travis_farmer[m]: even better... today i get a bit of paying work, making a vanity with my father. :-) so no moving of the servers yet.
09:29 AM CAKESLOB: Does anyone know how travel with CNC machines?
09:29 AM CAKESLOB: think I can put it in my carry on luggage?
09:50 AM roycroft: if it's a 3d printer, you can have it print itself a suitcase
09:54 AM CAKESLOB: no, its a tiny cnc lathe and cnc mill
09:54 AM CAKESLOB: smaller than a 3d printer though, like 10inch x 16 inch
09:56 AM roguish[m]: has anyone seen or heard from FermV, the 'NativeCAM' author?
09:57 AM roycroft: the spacex rocket did what was expected on a 420 launch date
09:57 AM roycroft: it blowed up real good
09:58 AM travis_farmer[m]: "rapid unscheduled disassembly" :-)
10:05 AM roguish[m]: ' OOPS '
10:57 AM Rab: CAKESLOB, I'd put in a Pelican case with closed-cell foam on all sides.
11:03 AM Tom_L: mark it as explosive too
11:11 AM CAKESLOB: yeah a pelican looks ideal
11:11 AM CAKESLOB: mark it explosive + bio hazzard
11:12 AM CAKESLOB: I need to now find of of these pelican cases.....ideally a knockoff pelican case because holy shit these prices
11:12 AM travis_farmer[m]: don't forget to mark "radioactive", just to be safe ;-)
11:13 AM CAKESLOB: tripple threat, good point
11:13 AM CAKESLOB: shit delta just bumped my seating too...
11:17 AM CAKESLOB: from first class to coach . ill protest this by getting really drunk
11:19 AM roycroft: you're not already?
11:20 AM rmu: CAKESLOB: WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING
11:24 AM CAKESLOB: Because im sick, my car broke down, and they bumped me from firstclass
11:25 AM CAKESLOB: I was gonna get drunk anyways, but now I wont even try not being beligerent
11:26 AM Tom_L: might end up walking if you do
11:27 AM roycroft: maybe even walking in cuffs
11:27 AM CAKESLOB: ill downgrade it from beligerent to obnoxious
11:28 AM CAKESLOB: because they will probably boot me when I land in detroit for the layover. worst possible outcome
11:36 AM CaptHindsight[m]: CAKESLOB: I have flown with a small 3-axis CNC and LCNC controller in my carry-on bag
11:37 AM CaptHindsight[m]: TSA just wanted the controller out of the bag and into a bin for x-ray
11:41 AM CAKESLOB: for real? perfect
11:46 AM CaptHindsight[m]: https://imgur.com/hQsE2h7 the controller (lower middle) but different machine
11:50 AM CaptHindsight[m]: those were nice mini-itx cases
11:50 AM Unterhaus_: that's a bit surprising, they panicked over my flattening stones. Would have been pretty mad if they threw them away
11:51 AM Unterhaus_: I think they cost about $500 because people will pay
11:52 AM CaptHindsight[m]: you could put the mainboard in one case and have the power supplies for the motors, motor drives and Mesa card in the other
11:53 AM CAKESLOB: those cases look legit
11:53 AM CAKESLOB: im doing a remora thing, so the controller is pretty small, but doesnt look as nice, or as well protected
11:55 AM CaptHindsight[m]: airport security theater varies by location, how much pocket change will trigger the metal detectors etc etc
12:04 PM CaptHindsight[m]: once I had to get that gear through LaGuardia at the last minute to make a flight home and there were three guys in front of me with Iraqi passports...
12:04 PM Tom_L: :)
12:06 PM CaptHindsight[m]: the TSA agent noticed I was from Chicago and there was a Hawks/Rangers game that night, he brought it up, so i gave him some crap about how badly the Rangers would be beaten, he didn't even unzip the bag and waved me through
12:08 PM CAKESLOB: I mean, thats probably less suspicious than if they had, say Dominican passports
12:08 PM roycroft: i flew from eugene to bellingham, washington once on an emergency call (this was pre-9/11)
12:09 PM roycroft: i brought a tool bag with me, and since the plane was a puddle jumper and i was ony going up for the day, i decided to just carry it on
12:10 PM roycroft: airport security searched my bag, which had box cutters and other sharp things in it, and decided that one of my screwdrivers was "dangerous"
12:10 PM roycroft: it wasn't the largest screwdriver, just a random one
12:10 PM roycroft: they told me i could not take that with me, but the rest of the bag was ok
12:11 PM Tom_L: what you don't know is, they'd been looking for a screwdriver to fix something that morning and you just happened along
12:11 PM roycroft: could be
12:11 PM roycroft: and it was a nice screwdriver - i use klein screwdrivers for electrical/computer work
12:11 PM roycroft: it was probably nicer than anything they had
12:12 PM roycroft: anyway, that incident started me thinking that airport security is just a form of kabuki theatre
12:13 PM roycroft: 9/11 and the emergence of tsa only confirmed that
12:15 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I used to work for a company that serviced the equipment at airports, the x-ray, flight info displays, etc
12:17 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I once rolled a work cart and tools up the the x-ray station with all my security badges on, they made me go though the scanners and the cart through x-ray, then I went to work on them :)
12:20 PM roycroft: my former congressional rep, who chaired the transportation committee before he retired, observed back in the early 2000s that airport workers at multiple airports came in through a gate directly into the "secure" part of the airport with no security checks other than showing their id badges
12:20 PM roycroft: they could have carried anything into the airport
12:21 PM roycroft: at the same time, passengers were removing their shoes to get to the secure area
12:22 PM Unterhaus_: yeah, they changed security for workers after some incident
12:23 PM Unterhaus_: I know pilots are not happy about the current arrangement
12:27 PM roycroft: why? are they being made to feel not entitled?
12:30 PM CAKESLOB: I should have been a pilot....
12:31 PM CAKESLOB: my friend who used to work for piece oif shit delta, only worked 6 days last month
12:33 PM Unterhaus_: I think pilots should suffer fewer indignities than us dirty pax
12:33 PM Unterhaus_: 63.6% of all delays at TSA are due to passengers not being able to read
12:35 PM Unterhaus_: It's annoying enough flying once a year. Flying multiple times a month seeing the same behaviors over and over would be pretty annoying
12:36 PM CAKESLOB: well, I believe that. looking at the tsa list of things i can and cannot bring.....holy shit
12:36 PM CAKESLOB: https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/all?combine=&page=4
12:37 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Bread Machine: OK!
12:37 PM roycroft: i have not flown since 9/11
12:37 PM roycroft: i flew about a week before then
12:37 PM roycroft: and i used to fly 3-4 times/year
12:38 PM roycroft: but i chose to not participate in the security theatre game
12:38 PM roguish[m]: roycroft: it's just a bit more crowed these days. and slower in the airports....
12:38 PM roycroft: i don't miss it
12:39 PM roycroft: i never enjoyed flying
12:39 PM roguish[m]: I fracking hate it.
12:39 PM roycroft: i did enjoy being in far away places quickly
12:39 PM roycroft: but i'm happy staying in my timezone now
12:39 PM roycroft: i don't have to reset my watch :)
12:39 PM CaptHindsight[m]: I discovered a folding corkscrew and mini lighter in my laptop bag that went though more airports than I can count, the bag had so many adapters, dongles, cables etc etc
12:40 PM roguish[m]: capt_hindsight[m]: you must be a terrrrorrrist
12:42 PM CaptHindsight[m]: well I start most conversations with banks, airlines, police etc with "I am not a terrorist, money launderer, arms dealer or similar".
12:42 PM CaptHindsight[m]: tends to work pretty well to set the tone
12:45 PM roguish[m]: lolol
12:46 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Hookahs: Carry On Bags: Yes
12:46 PM CaptHindsight[m]: Checked Bags: Yes
12:52 PM CAKESLOB: good, its been like 3 days since I could smoke my hookah
12:53 PM CAKESLOB: ill make room beside the cnc
12:58 PM roycroft: that doesn't work for me, regarding the police
12:58 PM roycroft: they don't care if i'm a terrorist
12:58 PM roycroft: i'm a hippie
12:58 PM roycroft: and it's hard to deny that
12:59 PM roycroft: hippies and other tree huggers are all they care about
04:07 PM JT-Shop: hmm the rain started an hour early
04:21 PM roycroft: it's not raining here now, but it was earlier today
04:22 PM roycroft: and our forecast now calls for five straight days without rain, starting tuesday next
04:22 PM roycroft: we're even going to get up to normal temps next week
04:22 PM roycroft: allegedly
04:24 PM * roycroft will believe it when it happens
04:30 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, get your hole filled in?
04:32 PM JT-Shop: partly
04:36 PM JT-Shop: going to put some play sand around the connection so the next guy that digs it up will have an easier time
05:46 PM Tom_L: good idea
05:49 PM JT-Shop: also I want to make sure it does not settle again
05:52 PM Tom_L: i have a pipe i connect to a hose and poke around the ground to help settle it back on such jobs
05:54 PM JT-Shop: inject water?
05:54 PM Tom_L: yeah, it helps mother nature quite a bit
05:54 PM JT-Shop: ok, sounds like a plan
05:55 PM Tom_L: just don't get mud in your face :)
05:55 PM JT-Shop: lol
05:55 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/temp/house/drain2.jpg
05:55 PM Tom_L: i used it when i did that
05:56 PM Tom_L: among other things
05:58 PM Tom_L: i put one of those cheap hose cutoffs on right ahead of the pipe
05:59 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/temp/pipe/pipe1.jpg
05:59 PM Tom_L: hah didn't know i had that one
05:59 PM JT-Shop: ah ok
05:59 PM Tom_L: the angle helps push the pipe down
06:00 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/temp/pipe/pipe2.jpg

06:01 PM Tom_L: ? where did they leave it?
06:01 PM JT-Shop: under the carport on my aluminum trailer
06:01 PM Tom_L: what is it?
06:02 PM JT-Shop: GL1800 battery
06:02 PM Tom_L: ahh
06:05 PM JT-Shop: this one is a proper Yuasa battery with the acid in a box
06:05 PM Tom_L: good
06:06 PM JT-Shop: last one was not and it didn't last long
