01:33 AM Deejay: moin
02:40 AM dudul[m]: There is this model in alibaba.
02:40 AM dudul[m]: I may try it one day
02:40 AM dudul[m]: https://m.alibaba.com/product/1600225867223/7mm-stroke-34-diameter-Smooth-model.html?__sceneInfo=%7B%22cacheTime%22%3A%221800000%22%2C%22type%22%3A%22appDetailShare%22%7D&from=Android
02:46 AM dudul[m]: And maybe this
02:46 AM dudul[m]: https://solenoid.or.kr/index_eng.html
05:24 AM Sariah[m]: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/193399951318
05:24 AM Sariah[m]: these look like a decent deal
05:25 AM Sariah[m]: (new ones arn't even that terrible - ~600EUR or so)
05:25 AM Sariah[m]: they support most encoders too
05:30 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
05:42 AM Tom_L: morning
05:43 AM JT-Cave: 2023 Corvette
05:44 AM andypugh_: Presumably some sort of sidebar-actuated lock.
05:45 AM JT-Cave: I have no clue, just reading the owners manual and knew you had an interest in locks
06:10 AM Jym23: JT-Cave Sounds like an anti-pry "break away" scheme. Very similar to Simplex locks if you try to force the knob to turn.
06:13 AM JT-Cave: but it says it's free turning not break away
06:13 AM Jym23: Interesting
07:55 AM spray[m]: I have bought some cheap used ati hd gpu and the latency improved. Like night and day. So I think my latency was coming from integrated graphics.
07:56 AM * spray[m] uploaded an image: (7148KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/CQrEtynzpbTFkmUMdlMBbUzC/40C9E202-F3C9-4833-B7E9-F9883BFBAD84.jpg >
08:35 AM dudul[m]: Is there any forum post or wiki article that can be used as a starting point for improvement of latency?
08:35 AM dudul[m]: My laptop is Lenovo flex2-15, core i7 4510U, vga intel 850, 2gba, ram 16gb
08:35 AM dudul[m]: Debian bullseye, i use ethercat for servo position control
08:46 AM JT-Cave: the first thing to do is not use a laptop
08:52 AM * dudul[m] uploaded an image: (14KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/UfBzLqbnrbAIJDKrsNzXogml/image0.jpg >
08:52 AM dudul[m]: I am using this for development. I want to buy a core i3 5005u fanless mini pc.
08:52 AM dudul[m]: But for development, i want to use the laptop.
08:54 AM * dudul[m] uploaded an image: (28KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/jauriarts.org/IBSQhTlFatVnrBamGvPGChpd/image0.jpg >
08:54 AM dudul[m]: Or this one with i3 4010Y
08:55 AM JT-Cave: laptops have bad latency due to hardware power saving devices
08:55 AM JT-Cave: there have been rare reports of a laptop being used for LinuxCNC but it is rare to find one that allows you to turn all power saving things off
09:28 AM dudul[m]: Not even workstation laptops?
09:28 AM dudul[m]: Like dell precision 7730 or hp zbook ?
09:29 AM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: They are probably even worse due to the aggressive power saving needed to keep them from melting.
09:32 AM Loetmichel_: dudul[m]: i have a Zbook fury at work. Apart from the fact that that thing costs an arm and a leg its not suitable for linuxCNC because it has Latency problems like all the others, if not worse. (The GPU can work over USB-C and that causes tons of NMI)
09:33 AM Loetmichel_: So if you want to do any low latency stuff you will probably run into problems. IF you have a networking or USB connected Signal processor card that you can load the servo thread off to: could work just fine.
09:34 AM dudul[m]: So disabling power saving related parameters in grub, like intel_idle.max_cstate=0
09:34 AM dudul[m]: processor.max_cstate=1
09:34 AM dudul[m]: Does not help on laptop?
09:34 AM Loetmichel_: Still it is pretty useless to use a very expensive notebook in a dirty CNC enviroment.
09:34 AM Loetmichel_: Problems on laptops are that they have non maskable interrupst to keep the battery drain low. That usually fights with Realtime kernels.
09:35 AM Loetmichel_: interrupts
09:35 AM dudul[m]: I am not able to do this because there is nothing like that in my domestic market and buying from other countries are not easy
09:35 AM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: On a laptop you usually can't disable power management. The system will quite literally melt if it was turned off.
09:35 AM Loetmichel_: <- sausage fingers :D
09:35 AM * CloudEvil ponders realtime GPU.
09:35 AM Loetmichel_: ZincBoy[CAON][m]: not melt, but drain the battery pretty quick and/or shut off for overheat.
09:36 AM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Linuxcnc is nice as it doesn't require much computer to run. Some old desktop will work just fine.
09:36 AM dudul[m]: I have other options like hp 8300hq mini deaktop pc. Or even hp z440 desktop with xeon 2680v4 cpu
09:36 AM Loetmichel_: <- has a notebook with a desktop cpu and a desktop gpu here. That thing starts the fans after about 10 minutes in Bios and shuts itself off after half an hour.
09:37 AM Loetmichel_: and thats only the CPU, not the GPU active ;)
09:37 AM dudul[m]: This is scary šŸ˜€
09:37 AM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: I use the HP8300 mini pcs as they are cheap and work fine.
09:37 AM Loetmichel_: yeah, they do
09:38 AM dudul[m]: My laptop's batteries are already dead šŸ˜€
09:38 AM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Using VNC, I can remote into the linuxcnc machine from my laptop or desktop systems.
09:38 AM Loetmichel_: problem is when you have realtime needs and have to get rid of power manangement. Notebooks usually arent designed for 100% thermal load. They simply overheat and switch off if you deny them sleep cycles
09:39 AM Loetmichel_: not enough room for a "full load" adequate heat sink/fan
09:40 AM Loetmichel_: same problem CAN be had with mini PCs, but usually they use low power CPUs/GPUs anyway, so the problem is either not pronounced or avouded by low power CPUs.
09:40 AM Loetmichel_: avoided
09:57 AM Loetmichel_ is now known as Loetmichel
09:59 AM dudul[m]: My hp8300hq has gas cooling heat sink and a very strong fan. I think that it can handle
10:05 AM Tom_L: JT-Cave, build time?
10:31 AM JT-Woodshop: Tom_L, yea
10:31 AM Tom_L: already working on it
10:33 AM JT-Woodshop: ok
11:01 AM Tom_L: dunno why the arm64 .tar.xz file gets so big.. up to 2.5Gb and growing
11:04 AM JT-Cave: dang
11:05 AM Tom_L: 2.7
11:05 AM Tom_L: each one has been progressively larger but this one is by far the biggest
11:10 AM _unreal_: and people wonder why we have to have so much ram.
11:10 AM _unreal_: its just bloat addons.
11:10 AM JT-Cave: tar.xz for pc is 1.9Mb
11:10 AM Tom_L: 3.0
11:10 AM JT-Cave: 64 bit pc
11:10 AM * JT-Cave goes to take a nap... road trip to the Dairy Shack after
11:10 AM Tom_L: the armhf usually doesn't take much time at all but the arm64 is crazy
11:30 AM Tom_L: get cpu speed doesn't work on armhf. asks for the password then does nothing
11:32 AM Tom_L: i'll try building the arm64 later.. something seems fishy with it
12:01 PM JT-Shop: weird
12:03 PM JT-Shop: on armf does sudo -S dmidecode work?
12:13 PM Tom_L: looking
12:13 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
12:14 PM Tom_dev: pi@linuxcnc:~ $ sudo -S dmidecode
12:14 PM Tom_dev: # dmidecode 3.2
12:14 PM Tom_dev: Scanning /dev/mem for entry point.
12:14 PM Tom_dev: # No SMBIOS nor DMI entry point found, sorry.
12:14 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
12:16 PM JT-Woodshop: that's why it doesn't work, does it work on the 64 bit?
12:17 PM JT-Woodshop: sudo cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/cpuinfo_cur_freq
12:20 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
12:20 PM Tom_dev: om@raspberrypi:~ $ sudo -S dmidecode
12:20 PM Tom_dev: # dmidecode 3.4
12:20 PM Tom_dev: # No SMBIOS nor DMI entry point found, sorry.
12:20 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
12:20 PM Tom_dev: 64 bit
12:21 PM JT-Shop: try sudo cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/cpuinfo_cur_freq
12:21 PM Tom_dev: 1500000
12:21 PM Tom_dev: 64 bit
12:23 PM JT-Shop: ok I need to figure out what os is running for that
12:25 PM JT-Shop: open a terminal and do the following
12:25 PM JT-Shop: python3
12:25 PM JT-Shop: import platform
12:25 PM JT-Shop: platform.system()
12:26 PM JT-Shop: what does that say?
12:26 PM Tom_dev: >>> import platform
12:26 PM Tom_dev: >>> platform.system()
12:26 PM Tom_dev: 'Linux'
12:27 PM Tom_dev: bookworm actually
12:27 PM Tom_dev: wnat it is
12:29 PM Tom_dev: just tried 1.2.3 on this since i didn't finish building 1.2.4 and it returns nothing as well
12:29 PM JT-Cave: ok that won't work...
12:30 PM * JT-Cave heads to the Dairy Shack
12:30 PM JT-Cave: bbl
12:30 PM Tom_L: have fun
12:36 PM perry_j1987: been playing around with freecad a bit
12:36 PM perry_j1987: just got liblathe installed but fighting through some errors heh
12:36 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: I am sorry to hear that šŸ˜›
12:40 PM perry_j1987: it is def not as comfortable as fusion heh
12:41 PM perry_j1987: was hoping for a decent backup option for fusion
12:41 PM roycroft: fusion 360 makes me really uncomfortable knowing that autodesk own all my files and can deny me access to them or their software at any time, or suddenly demand money for functionality that had been provided gratis or under a different license model
12:42 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Alibre design is what I use. Not free, but cheap enough that it is fine for me. Plus it is 100% local, no cloud needed.
12:43 PM roycroft: solidworks has none of those problems, but i understand that it's out of most folks' budget
12:43 PM roycroft: i think there's a sw hobby license now, but iirc it's a subscription thing, so it has some of the problems that fusion 360 has
12:45 PM Tom_L: 99/yr
12:46 PM Tom_L: normal seat is 3995.00
12:46 PM Tom_L: 1295/yr maintenance
12:47 PM roycroft: that sounds about right
12:47 PM roycroft: the hobby license probably has the same type of commercial use restrictions that fusion 360 has
12:50 PM perry_j1987: wonder what it would take to push freecad over the edge
12:51 PM roycroft: for starters, a clear vision about what they want to do going forward
12:52 PM roycroft: some sponsorship so that development can proceed faster than at a snail's pace
01:07 PM bjorkintosh: autocad is the one reason I keep a windows thing around.
01:07 PM bjorkintosh: so so hard to find a decent libre cad
01:11 PM _unreal_: bjorkintosh, I use designspark mainly, I own fusion but designspark is my goto.
01:25 PM * roycroft is pretty happy with sw for now, but would like to be able to use freecad at some point
01:55 PM perry_j1987: installed liblathe in freecad but have not gotten it to work quite yet
01:58 PM dudul[m]: I have SOLIDWORKS and catia but i am drawing using mathematica šŸ˜€
01:58 PM Sariah[m]: I own a full solidworks licence
01:59 PM Sariah[m]: (Spoiler: if anyone has some CAD work need doing, poke me, I'm dry on work right now. Lol)
01:59 PM Tom_L: what version>
01:59 PM Tom_L: ?
01:59 PM Sariah[m]: got it 'cause I was doing work for a family friend, running low on work now
01:59 PM Sariah[m]: Solidworks Standard 2023
02:00 PM Sariah[m]: Got professional at my full time work
02:00 PM Tom_L: i just don't like that it won't save older version files
02:00 PM dudul[m]: 2022 for sw
02:00 PM dudul[m]: 2019 for catia
02:00 PM dudul[m]: 12 for mathematica
02:00 PM dudul[m]: But i prefer writing x y z as a function of time or other axes location
02:01 PM dudul[m]: Not g code
02:01 PM Tom_L: and their iges isn't as good as catia
02:01 PM Tom_L: dudul[m], is that catia v5?
02:01 PM dudul[m]: Yes
02:01 PM Tom_L: last one before the 3d experience
02:02 PM Tom_L: (cloud)
02:03 PM Tom_L: i took a couple courses for it but my kids took alot more than me
02:04 PM dudul[m]: CATIA P3 V5-6R2019
02:11 PM roycroft: the national weather service have just issued flood watches for many of our coastal rivers
02:12 PM roycroft: that elusive sunshine is still forecast to arrive later this coming week, but i guess the rain clouds want to do their thing first
02:13 PM XXCoder: dont worry, sun is there still, behind rainclouds
02:13 PM XXCoder: I know it gets hard to remember after 2 or 3 months
02:26 PM roycroft: i haven't forgotten it
02:26 PM roycroft: it pops out furtively fairly frequently
02:26 PM roycroft: but disappears again as fast as it shows itself
02:39 PM XXCoder: lol ok
03:44 PM * JT-Shop makes a new circle cutting jig for the pm1500 so he can finish the wedding bowl
03:46 PM JT-Shop: Tom_L, on the rpi what does the following report back
03:46 PM JT-Shop: python3
03:46 PM JT-Shop: import os
03:46 PM JT-Shop: os.uname()
03:49 PM * JT[m] uploaded an image: (294KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/matrix.org/MOSbJQsZFJSCKPwoTVMZlMCp/20230409_154748.jpg >
03:50 PM JT-Shop: 3 more pattern rings and the top ring to go... no place to tape them to the disk
03:52 PM skunkworks[m]: wow - that is beautiful
03:53 PM XXCoder: indeed
03:54 PM JT-Shop: thanks, the pattern really shows when you get it smoothed out a bit
04:00 PM Tom_L: lemme check in a sec
04:01 PM Tom_L: either os?
04:01 PM JT-Shop: yup
04:04 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:04 PM Tom_dev: >>> import os
04:04 PM Tom_dev: >>> os.uname()
04:04 PM Tom_dev: posix.uname_result(sysname='Linux', nodename='linuxcnc', release='4.19.71-rt24-v7l+', version='#4 SMP PREEMPT RT Thu Apr 30 22:00:15 CDT 2020', machine='armv7l')
04:05 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
04:05 PM JT-Shop: ok that will work to figure out what type of computer it is
04:10 PM Tom_L: i'm wondering why the arm64 tar.xz got so big
04:10 PM Tom_L: it was over 3G and growing when i stopped it
04:14 PM JT-Shop: sounds like something was borked
04:14 PM Tom_L: yeah i'll look at it another day
04:15 PM Tom_L: getting better but this crud is sucking me dry
04:15 PM spray[m]: šŸ‘‹ hello, can anyone point out what is causing this kind of slow approach to final position?
04:15 PM spray[m]: https://youtu.be/XxAMehUywdc
04:16 PM spray[m]: Im using default config from scotta
04:16 PM spray[m]: https://github.com/scottalford75/Remora-NVEM/tree/main/LinuxCNC/ConfigSamples/remora-nvem-basic
04:17 PM spray[m]: Like it never reaches the exact position and subsequent moves leads to joint following error
04:19 PM JT-Shop: probably your drive tuning
04:27 PM spray[m]: Its open loop stepper
04:27 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Do you have feedback to linuxcnc?
04:27 PM spray[m]: No feedback
04:27 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: You PID is set to the default values for a stepper?
04:28 PM spray[m]: I dont know. Is that in ini?
04:29 PM ZincBoy[CAON][m]: Usually. Unless you hardcoded it in the HAL.
04:29 PM JT-Shop: it could be in the ini or the main hal file
04:29 PM JT-Shop: pastbin them
04:30 PM spray[m]: They are here
04:30 PM spray[m]: https://github.com/scottalford75/Remora-NVEM/tree/main/LinuxCNC/ConfigSamples/remora-nvem-basic
04:33 PM andypugh_: OK, no PID there, nor anything to tune.
04:33 PM andypugh_: I suspect a glitch in the remora firmware.
04:36 PM spray[m]: Ok, i will try my luck on the forum. Thanks for help!
04:39 PM JT-Shop: what is remora?
04:40 PM * JT-Shop watches more Leo
04:40 PM spray[m]: Custom firmware for chinese ethernet controllers NVEM or EC300/500
04:41 PM JT-Shop: thanks
04:48 PM andypugh_: JT-Cave: Leo Goolen? Bear in mind that the most recent video came out on the 1st of April.
04:48 PM JT-Shop: aye, I'm watching from the beginning again... on ep50 now
04:50 PM JT-Shop: but I'll be looking forward for the 4-1 video
04:50 PM JT3196[m]: I'm super confused, when I send `M3 S1` from AXIS MDI it works fine but when sending it from `linuxcncrsh` it does nothing
04:54 PM JT-Shop: andypugh_, I'm up to building the bow timbers
04:55 PM andypugh_: JT3196[m]: Thatā€™s defintiely confusingā€¦
04:57 PM * travis_farmer[m] has not been killed by covid, yet... just very winded
05:01 PM JT-Shop: rest is your friend
05:01 PM travis_farmer[m]: i am getting it, in spurts
05:01 PM andypugh_: Physics Girl from YouTube has been badly messed up by Covid.
05:02 PM JT-Shop: I've never watched her
05:03 PM XXCoder: i recall the channel, though didnt sub to channel
05:03 PM XXCoder: hope she recovers
05:04 PM JT-Shop: when I accidentally breathed in some bacillus thuringiensis I was down for the count for 10 days and lost 20 pounds
05:04 PM JT-Shop: I don't recommend it as a weight lost program
05:04 PM XXCoder: yeah as your body would recover all of it, ignoring all other ponental health issues
05:05 PM pcw-home: I though bacillus thuringiensis was advertised as harmless to humans
05:05 PM pcw-home: thought
05:05 PM JT-Shop: as long as you don't breath it in...
05:05 PM XXCoder: yeah harmless externally
05:06 PM pcw-home: you gave it a big head start...
05:06 PM JT-Shop: I accidentally walked into a cloud of it after spraying the tomato plants
05:06 PM XXCoder: like leaving gate open let invaders in
05:06 PM XXCoder: then fighting
05:09 PM JT-Shop: the main thing I had to do was stay hydrated with the green apple trots for days
05:09 PM Lcvette[m]: JT-Shop: that could be a million dollar LA weight loss program
05:09 PM pcw-home: is that for the hornworms?
05:09 PM JT-Shop: yup and works great to kill them
05:09 PM Tom_L: or you
05:09 PM JT-Shop: na didn't kill me just made me respect it more
05:10 PM Tom_L: i'll wait til you get the os working on pi then build unless you think i need to sooner
05:10 PM JT-Shop: ok, that's a good idea
05:11 PM Tom_L: been resting alot more last few days
05:11 PM JT-Shop: I'll test it on mesact II so I can use it on my pi
05:11 PM Tom_L: k
05:11 PM JT-Shop: I'm about over my creeping crud
05:12 PM Tom_L: i'm getting alot better
05:13 PM Lcvette[m]: I just got done with covid, was given paxlovid antivirals... That stuff was horrible for after taste
05:13 PM Tom_L: this is just a head cold
05:14 PM Lcvette[m]: And it was delayed after taste like an hour and lasted the next 8 hours
05:14 PM Lcvette[m]: Finally would go away when it was yime for the evening dose...
05:14 PM Lcvette[m]: Tasted like chewed up tylenol
05:15 PM Lcvette[m]: Tom_L: thats good
05:15 PM Lcvette[m]: Covid sucked
05:15 PM Tom_L: i've had that as well but ~2yrs back
05:38 PM roycroft: my boss still claims that covid-19 does not exist
05:38 PM roycroft: even though his kid had it
05:39 PM roycroft: and got pretty sick
05:46 PM andypugh_: Find a new boss :-) What else is he completely insane about?
05:47 PM JT-Shop: seems like he has a lot of mental issues
05:49 PM JT3196[m]: Is there something about linuxcncrsh that makes it different when enabling the spindle? when I type show spindle it just closes the connection and dies
05:49 PM JT-Shop: I really like the far east folk song on one of the early videos
05:51 PM JT3196[m]: Also my Pi as just been randomly hanging for no reason and I can't figure out why
05:54 PM andypugh_: JT3196[m]: Sorry, I have barely used linuxcncrsh, so canā€™t really advise, but I think that it is meant to be more stable than you are describing.
05:59 PM JT3196[m]: I just don't get why it freezes, the linuxcncrsh process is still running and responding to telnet but SSH is dead and so is XRDP
05:59 PM JT3196[m]: Doesn't make any sense
06:02 PM andypugh_: Now I do have lots of experience with ssh. In fact I am almost never physically at my LinuxCNC machines when doing development work, I am generally using my (huge) Mac screen and ssh-ed into the LinuxCNC hardware.
06:02 PM andypugh_: How do you connect with ssh? I have found that it has to be ssh -Y
06:03 PM JT3196[m]: I just use normal ssh.
06:07 PM JT3196[m]: It's looking like a dead SD card
06:07 PM JT3196[m]: great.
06:23 PM andypugh_: Thatā€™s about the cheapest fix?
06:24 PM skunkworks[m]: Andy! can't wait to see you again at Tormach!
06:25 PM skunkworks[m]: *See you again.. Not that I am always seeing you at tormach.
06:25 PM andypugh_: Bring modbus!
06:26 PM skunkworks[m]: Uh.. I don't think I have any modbus..
06:29 PM andypugh_: OK. No random VFDs?
06:29 PM skunkworks[m]: I was at one of the cnc fests - Maybe galesberg? Tormach was there - the other guy (the one who died) was playing with linuxcnc - I watched him play with the axis preview for like 5 minutes.. Zooming in and out, rotating.. Maybe that was when they decided to go linuxcnc for their control.
06:30 PM skunkworks[m]: andypugh: I can look and see what we have. I am sure I can find somthing. (work has newer stuff)
06:30 PM andypugh_: I have only previously been to Wichita and Stuttfart
06:31 PM andypugh_: Err, Stuttgart.
06:31 PM skunkworks[m]: I remember. I miss them.
06:32 PM Tom_L: take lots of pics
06:33 PM andypugh_: Maybe there should be an announcement on the Forum and the web page about this?
06:36 PM skunkworks[m]: andypugh_: https://electronicsam.com/images/KandT/Fest2013/DSC_3942.JPG
06:36 PM skunkworks[m]: probably beer...
06:36 PM andypugh_: Yeah, thatā€™s typical for me :-)
06:37 PM andypugh_: Checked shirt is Jon Elson? Not sure who the guy in front of me is.
06:38 PM skunkworks[m]: Yes-
06:38 PM skunkworks[m]: Jepler
06:39 PM andypugh_: He has a Python tee-shirt, seems likely
06:39 PM XXCoder: somewhat old picture I guess. unless its corptate which dont upgrade computers all that often
06:39 PM skunkworks[m]: That was a stressful fest IIRC - the split
06:40 PM Tom_L: XXCoder, the wichita fest
06:40 PM skunkworks[m]: 2013 I think\
06:40 PM XXCoder: yeah decade was rough guess of mine lol
06:40 PM andypugh_: The split was after, it finsihed with us still trying to make things work.
06:41 PM XXCoder: ah its right in url 2013 lol
06:42 PM andypugh_: Fundamentally MAH took two years off work to work on LinuxCNC and thought that everyone owed him because if this. But nobody had asked him to do that, and I donā€™t know why he did it.
06:42 PM Tom_L: i did some work for the guy that bought MPM after Stuart retired
06:42 PM andypugh_: So, 10 years ago my beard still had pigmentation.
06:42 PM andypugh_: (In patches)
06:43 PM XXCoder: andy geez.
06:43 PM cradek: wow 10-years-ago jeff (I see him all the time so I don't notice him getting older)
06:43 PM skunkworks[m]: Tere we go - I thought I had a better picture https://electronicsam.com/images/KandT/Fest2013/DSC_3813.JPG
06:43 PM skunkworks[m]: 'better'
06:43 PM cradek: he can't come to this thing, but I'm planning to come
06:43 PM skunkworks[m]: Uh oh.. Cradekk
06:44 PM cradek: that second pic has me standing in the back room
06:44 PM cradek: I look exactly the same now of course
06:44 PM Tom_L: heh
06:44 PM XXCoder: oh talking about old things, my computer power strip was reason for my pc rebooting sometimes. its over 25 years old. I suspect something fried my old pc psu an also damaged my power strip. too bad. its that classic power strip thats designed for crt to rest on it
06:44 PM cradek: ugh I can smell the cigarette smoke from here
06:45 PM skunkworks[m]: https://electronicsam.com/images/KandT/Fest2013/DSC_3805.JPG
06:46 PM skunkworks[m]: pick out cradek..
06:46 PM XXCoder: wonder whats talked about on last image
06:47 PM XXCoder: tiny mill
06:47 PM skunkworks[m]: changes to hal that machinekit wanted
06:47 PM skunkworks[m]: that was jon elsons demonstration mill
06:47 PM Tom_L: drill tap
06:47 PM Tom_L: i remember that much
06:48 PM andypugh_: There was no Machinekit then. (I am not sure if there is now)
06:49 PM skunkworks[m]: Right... What the future machine kit wanted..
06:52 PM andypugh_: It was probably avoidable, but they went so far off into the weeds with development.. Then they put in a _lot_ of work to refactor that, and then it still didnā€™t pass muster, and both sides lost patience. Well, I say ā€œsidesā€ there was a really complicated Venn diagram where everyone had their own unique loop.
06:57 PM Toneloc2 is now known as ghost
06:58 PM ghost is now known as Toneloc
07:00 PM _unreal_: I just got two more util boxes, both are white aluminum 11"x11" 6" deep with a lid. If anyone is interested in one or more let me know I have 2
07:01 PM XXCoder: andy too bad really. wonder what machinekit is doing now
07:02 PM skunkworks[m]: I tested the first ethernet card from mesa.. Mah did a lot of work with Xenomai and userspace to make it work.. Kinda stalled then Jepler came along and made it all work mostly painlessly.
07:03 PM skunkworks[m]: lol - 'the first' I think I got it at the fest from the grab box of boards peter brought.
07:05 PM andypugh_: skunkworks[m]: Well, Jepler did it the (relatively) easy way, two LinuxCNC versions. MAH had ā€œUBCā€ which was one LinuxCNC for all realtime systems. Which would have been neater.
07:06 PM skunkworks[m]: andypugh_: That time is more of a fever dream. You probably know way more than I from that time.
07:07 PM skunkworks[m]: I am pretty sure I was a new dad around that time.
07:14 PM andypugh_: Well, it should be easy to work out. If you search the house, do you find any children approximately 10 years old?
07:15 PM XXCoder: might be at school ;)
07:32 PM skunkworks[m]: surprisingly - she is going to be 11 in august..
07:32 PM skunkworks[m]: The second spawn will be 8 this month
07:33 PM XXCoder: oh good you found your kids ;)
07:33 PM XXCoder: reminded me a bit of nephew of mine. he would disappear if I looked away for a second
07:33 PM XXCoder: and unlike many kids he wasnt constranted so he could be quite far away
07:42 PM Sariah[m]: 11 years old? Time to start teaching them GIT!
07:42 PM Sariah[m]: start them young šŸ„²
09:02 PM JT3196[m]: I'm still not able to get `M3 S0` and `M3 S1` to do anything when sending the command via `linuxcncrsh` for some reason, I'm really at a loss what could be causing it
09:03 PM JT3196[m]: Maybe it's because I'm using AXIS as gui and calling `linuxcncrsh` as a hal?
09:07 PM JT3196[m]: Ah I figured it out, set spindle forward and off to turn it off
09:07 PM JT3196[m]: M3 just does nothing apparently lol
09:11 PM andypugh_: Hmm. That might be my fault.
09:11 PM andypugh_: Maybe I missed something when I introduced multi-spindle control.
09:55 PM Tom_L: JT-Cave, i went ahead and pushed #104
09:56 PM Tom_L: something was wrong with the arm64 but i've fixed it
11:38 PM bjorkintosh: what's the split? is there an evil twin linuxcnc somewhere?
11:40 PM mrec: machinekit?
11:41 PM bjorkintosh: ah I see.
11:42 PM bjorkintosh: damn. last update was 3 years ago.
